d0aefec499 intl: Treat C.UTF-8 locale like C locale, part 2 (BZ# 16621)
The previous commit was incomplete: gettext() still returns a translation
if the file /usr/share/locale/C/LC_MESSAGES/<domain>.mo exists. This patch
prohibits the translation also in this case.

88677348b4 Move libc_freeres_ptrs and libc_subfreeres to hidden/weak functions
They are both used by __libc_freeres to free all library malloc
allocated resources to help tooling like mtrace or valgrind with
memory leak tracking.

The current scheme uses assembly markers and linker script entries
to consolidate the free routine function pointers in the RELRO segment
and to be freed buffers in BSS.

This patch changes it to use specific free functions for
libc_freeres_ptrs buffers and call the function pointer array directly
with call_function_static_weak.

It allows the removal of both the internal macros and the linker
script sections.

32c7acd464 Replace rawmemchr (s, '\0') with strchr
Almost all uses of rawmemchr find the end of a string. Since most targets use
a generic implementation, replacing it with strchr is better since that is
optimized by compilers into strlen (s) + s. Also fix the generic rawmemchr
implementation to use a cast to unsigned char in the if statement.

I used these shell commands:

I then removed trailing white space from math/tgmath.h,

sysdeps/x86_64/multiarch/strlen-vec.S, to work around the following
obscure pre-commit check failure diagnostics from Savannah. I don't

  #if !defined __gettextlex && !defined YYLEX_IS_DECLARED

30891f35fa Remove "Contributed by" lines
We stopped adding "Contributed by" or similar lines in sources in 2012
in favour of git logs and keeping the Contributors section of the
glibc manual up to date. Removing these lines makes the license
header a bit more consistent across files and also removes the
possibility of error in attribution when license blocks or files are
copied across since the contributed-by lines don't actually reflect
reality in those cases.

Move all "Contributed by" and similar lines (Written by, Test by,
etc.) into a new file CONTRIBUTED-BY to retain record of these
contributions. These contributors are also mentioned in
manual/contrib.texi, so we just maintain this additional record as a
courtesy to the earlier developers.

The following scripts were used to filter a list of files to edit in
place and to clean up the CONTRIBUTED-BY file respectively. These
were not added to the glibc sources because they're not expected to be
of any use in future given that this is a one time task:

2d2d9f2b48 Move malloc hooks into a compat DSO
Remove all malloc hook uses from core malloc functions and move it
into a new library libc_malloc_debug.so. With this, the hooks now no
longer have any effect on the core library.

libc_malloc_debug.so is a malloc interposer that needs to be preloaded
to get hooks functionality back so that the debugging features that
depend on the hooks, i.e. malloc-check, mcheck and mtrace work again.
Without the preloaded DSO these debugging features will be nops.
These features will be ported away from hooks in subsequent patches.

Similarly, legacy applications that need hooks functionality need to
preload libc_malloc_debug.so.

The symbols exported by libc_malloc_debug.so are maintained at exactly
the same version as libc.so.

Finally, static binaries will no longer be able to use malloc
debugging features since they cannot preload the debugging DSO.

7d4ec75e11 intl: Handle translation output codesets with suffixes [BZ #26383]
Commit 91927b7c76 (Rewrite iconv option parsing [BZ #19519]) did not
handle cases where the output codeset for translations (via the `gettext'
family of functions) might have a caller specified encoding suffix such as
TRANSLIT or IGNORE. This led to a regression where translations did not
work when the codeset had a suffix.

This commit fixes the above issue by parsing any suffixes passed to
__dcigettext and adds two new test-cases to intl/tst-codeset.c to
verify correct behaviour. The iconv-internal function __gconv_create_spec
and the static iconv-internal function gconv_destroy_spec are now visible
internally within glibc and used in intl/dcigettext.c.

91927b7c76 Rewrite iconv option parsing [BZ #19519]
This commit replaces string manipulation during `iconv_open' and iconv_prog
option parsing with a structured, flag based conversion specification. In
doing so, it alters the internal `__gconv_open' interface and accordingly
adjusts its uses.

This change fixes several hangs in the iconv program and therefore includes
a new test to exercise iconv_prog options that originally led to these hangs.
It also includes a new regression test for option handling in the iconv
function.

56456a2aad intl/tst-gettext: fix failure with newest msgfmt
Since upstream gettext commit d13f165b83 (msgfmt: Remove
POT-Creation-Date field from the header in the output.), msgfmt does not
copy the POT-Creation-Date field in the header entry from the po file to
the mo file anymore. This breaks the assumption that we can test gettext
by comparing each message in the po files with the corresponding string
return by gettext. This makes the intl/tst-gettext to fail.

While it would have been possible to modify the po2test.awk script to
also strip the line POT-Creation-Date field when creating the msgs.h
file, it would not work with both the old and new msgfmt.

Instead create a tst-gettext-de.po file from de.po by removing the
POT-Creation-Date line. Another alternative would be to use a static
tst-gettext-de.po file, but I guess the reason for using de.po is to
also catch issues caused by newly added strings.

As tst-catgets also uses msg.h, it should also be updated. Instead of
using the new tst-gettext-de.po file, the patch modifies xopen-msg.awk
to avoid creating a second catgets->intl dependency.

Changelog:
	[BZ #21508]
	* catgets/xopen-msg.awk: Ignore POT-Creation-Date line.
	* intl/Makefile ($(objpfx)tst-gettext-de.po): Generate
intl/tst-gettext-de.po from po/de.po by removing the
	POT-Creation-Date line.
($(objpfx)msgs.h): Depend on $(objpfx)tst-gettext-de.po instead of
	../po/de.po.
	* intl/tst-gettext.sh: Use ${objpfx}tst-gettext-de.po instead of
	../po/de.po.

7fc03cf320 Fix -Os feof_unlocked linknamespace, localplt issues (bug 15105, bug 19463).
Continuing the fixes for linknamespace and localplt test failures with
-Os that arise from functions not being inlined in that case, this
patch fixes such failures for feof_unlocked.

The usual approach is followed of adding __feof_unlocked (inlined when
feof_unlocked is), making calls use it when required for namespace
reasons, and using libc_hidden_proto / libc_hidden_weak for the
feof_unlocked weak alias when only localplt but not namespace issues
are involved. In the case of getaddrinfo.c, use of __feof_unlocked
needs to be conditional since that code is also used in nscd (where
__feof_unlocked is not available).

Tested for x86_64 (both without -Os to make sure that case continues
to work, and with -Os to make sure all the relevant linknamespace and
localplt test failures are resolved). Because of other such failures
that remain after this patch, neither of the bugs can yet be closed.

1faaf7035c plural.c: improve reproducibility
There is a subtle non-determinism when building glibc.
This depends on whether the glibc is built using the distibuted
file intl/plural.c or built using the generated file intl/plural.c.
These two files (intl/plural.c generated vs. distributed) are slightly
different, hence we may end up with slightly different libraries.

Originally, having "bison" installed was optional. So if "bison" was
not present, we always built libraries with the distributed plural.c.
If bison was installed, we *** may have *** replaced the distributed
file plural.c with a new plural.c generated from plural.y. if the
timestamps triggered this rule:

plural.c plural.y
	$(BISON) $(BISONFLAGS) $@ $^

Given that timestamps are not preserved in GIT repositories, the above
rule is not reliable without explicitly touching plural.c or plural.y.
In other words, the rule may or may not have fired.

In summary: there are two distinct sources of non-determinism:

1. Having "bison" installed or not
2. Having "bison" installed but timestamps poorly defined.

This patch fixes this by requiring "bison" being installed
and by always generating intl/plural.c from intl/plural.y.
(This is achieved by simply removing checked-in intl/plural.c)

Size comparison of libc.so:

On x86-64:
        text data bss dec hex
Before: 1728577 20584 17088	1766249 1af369
After : 1728593 20584 17088	1766265 1af379

The only change is __gconv_release_shlib in iconv/gconv_dl.c is inlined
since it is hidden, which increases the code size of gconv_dl.os by 18
bytes.

On i686:
        text data bss dec hex
Before: 1869039 11444 11112	1891595 1cdd0b
After : 1868635 11444 11112	1891191 1cdb77

The code size is decreased by avoiding GOT/PLT for hidden functions.

7c3018f9e4 Suppress internal declarations for most of the testsuite.
This patch adds a new build module called 'testsuite'.
IS_IN (testsuite) implies _ISOMAC, as do IS_IN_build and __cplusplus
(which means several ad-hoc tests for __cplusplus can go away).
libc-symbols.h now suppresses almost all of *itself* when _ISOMAC is
defined; in particular, _ISOMAC mode does not get config.h
automatically anymore.

There are still quite a few tests that need to see internal gunk of
one variety or another. For them, we now have 'tests-internal' and
'test-internal-extras'; files in this category will still be compiled
with MODULE_NAME=nonlib, and everything proceeds as it always has.
The bulk of this patch is moving tests from 'tests' to
'tests-internal'. There is also 'tests-static-internal', which has
the same effect on files in 'tests-static', and 'modules-names-tests',
which has the *inverse* effect on files in 'modules-names' (it's
inverted because most of the things in modules-names are *not* tests).
For both of these, the file must appear in *both* the new variable and
the old one.

There is also now a special case for when libc-symbols.h is included
without MODULE_NAME being defined at all. (This happens during the
creation of libc-modules.h, and also when preprocessing Versions
files.) When this happens, IS_IN is set to be always false and
_ISOMAC is *not* defined, which was the status quo, but now it's
explicit.

The remaining changes to C source files in this patch seemed likely to
cause problems in the absence of the main change. They should be
relatively self-explanatory. In a few cases I duplicated a definition
from an internal header rather than move the test to tests-internal;
this was a judgement call each time and I'm happy to change those
however reviewers feel is more appropriate.

	* Makerules: New subdir configuration variables 'tests-internal'
and 'test-internal-extras'. Test files in these categories will
still be compiled with MODULE_NAME=nonlib. Test files in the
existing categories (tests, xtests, test-srcs, test-extras) are
	now compiled with MODULE_NAME=testsuite.
New subdir configuration variable 'modules-names-tests'. Files
which are in both 'modules-names' and 'modules-names-tests' will
be compiled with MODULE_NAME=testsuite instead of
	MODULE_NAME=extramodules.
	(gen-as-const-headers): Move to tests-internal.
	(do-tests-clean, common-mostlyclean): Support tests-internal.

	* config.h.in: Don't check for __OPTIMIZE__ or __FAST_MATH__ here.
	* include/libc-symbols.h: Move definitions of _GNU_SOURCE,
	PASTE_NAME, PASTE_NAME1, IN_MODULE, IS_IN, and IS_IN_LIB to the
very top of the file and rationalize their order.
If MODULE_NAME is not defined at all, define IS_IN to always be
	false, and don't define _ISOMAC.
If any of IS_IN (testsuite), IS_IN_build, or __cplusplus are
true, define _ISOMAC and suppress everything else in this file,
starting with the inclusion of config.h.
Do check for inappropriate definitions of __OPTIMIZE__ and
__FAST_MATH__ here, but only if _ISOMAC is not defined.
        Correct some out-of-date commentary.

	* include/math.h: If _ISOMAC is defined, undefine NO_LONG_DOUBLE
	and _Mlong_double_ before including math.h.
	* include/string.h: If _ISOMAC is defined, don't expose
_STRING_ARCH_unaligned. Move a comment to a more appropriate
	location.

ae65d4f3c3 Remove the str(n)dup inlines from string/bits/string2.h. Although inlining
calls with constant strings shows a small (~10%) performance gain, strdup is
typically used in error reporting code, so not performance critical.
Remove the now unused __need_malloc_and_calloc related defines from stdlib.h.

Rename existing uses of str(n)dup to __str(n)dup so it no longer needs to be
redirected to a builtin. Also building GLIBC with -Os now no longer shows
localplt or linkname space failures (partial fix for BZ #15105 and BZ #19463).

314f6deec9 Enable --localedir to set message catalog directory (Bug 14259)
In 1999 the project split "localedir" into "localedir" (path to compiled
locale archives) and "msgcatdir" (path to message catalogs). This
predates the 2002 change in the GNU Coding Standard to document the use
of "localedir" for the path to the message catalogs. It appears that
newlib, gcc, and several other projects also used "msgcatdir" at one
point or another in the past, and so it is in line with historical
precedent that glibc would also use "msgcatdir." However, given that the
GNU Coding Standard uses "localedir", we will switch to that for
consistency as a GNU project. Previous uses of --localdir didn't work
anyway (see bug 14259).

I am committing this patch in the understanding that nobody would object
to fixing #14259 as part of aligning our variable usage to the GNU
Coding Standard.

Given that previous "localedir" uses were converted to "complocaledir"
by [1], we can now convert "msgcatdir" to "localedir" and complete the
transition. With an addition to config.make.in we also fix bug 14259 and
allow users to specify the locale dependent data directory with
"--localedir" at configure time. There is still no way to control at
configure time the location of the *compiled* locale directory.

Tested on x86_64 with no regressions.

Tested using "--localedir" to specify alternate locale dependent data
directory and verified with "make install DESTDIR=/tmp/glibc".
