Introduce a new _FORTIFY_SOURCE level of 3 to enable additional
fortifications that may have a noticeable performance impact, allowing
more fortification coverage at the cost of some performance.
With llvm 9.0 or later, this will replace the use of
__builtin_object_size with __builtin_dynamic_object_size.
__builtin_dynamic_object_size
-----------------------------
__builtin_dynamic_object_size is an LLVM builtin that is similar to
__builtin_object_size. In addition to what __builtin_object_size
does, i.e. replace the builtin call with a constant object size,
__builtin_dynamic_object_size will replace the call site with an
expression that evaluates to the object size, thus expanding its
applicability. In practice, __builtin_dynamic_object_size evaluates
these expressions through malloc/calloc calls that it can associate
with the object being evaluated.
A simple motivating example is below; -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 would miss
this and emit memcpy, but -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=3 with the help of
__builtin_dynamic_object_size is able to emit __memcpy_chk with the
allocation size expression passed into the function:

Limitations
-----------
If the object was allocated elsewhere that the compiler cannot see, or
if it was allocated in the function with a function that the compiler
does not recognize as an allocator then __builtin_dynamic_object_size
also returns -1.
Further, the expression used to compute object size may be non-trivial
and may potentially incur a noticeable performance impact. These
fortifications are hence enabled at a new _FORTIFY_SOURCE level to
allow developers to make a choice on the tradeoff according to their
environment.
The addmntent function replicates elements of struct mnt on stack
using alloca, which is unsafe. Put characters directly into the
stream, escaping them as they're being written out.
Also add a test to check all escaped characters with addmntent and
getmntent.
Change sbrk to fail for !__libc_initial (in the generic
implementation). As a result, sbrk is (relatively) safe to use
for the __libc_initial case (from the main libc). It is therefore
no longer necessary to avoid using it in that case (or updating the
brk cache), and the __libc_initial flag does not need to be updated
as part of dlmopen or static dlopen.
As before, direct brk system calls on Linux may lead to memory
corruption.

The tls.h inclusion is not really required and limits possible
definition on more arch specific headers.
This is a cleanup to allow inline functions on sysdep.h, more
specifically on i386 and ia64 which requires to access some tls
definitions its own.
No semantic changes expected, checked with a build against all
affected ABIs.
GCC 11 introduces a -Wstringop-overflow warning for calls to functions
with an array argument passed as a pointer to memory not large enough
for that array. This includes the __sigsetjmp calls from
pthread_cleanup_push macros, because those use a structure in
__pthread_unwind_buf_t, which has a common initial subsequence with
jmp_buf but does not include the saved signal mask; this is OK in this
case because the second argument to __sigsetjmp is 0 so the signal
mask is not accessed.
To avoid this warning, use a function alias __sigsetjmp_cancel with
first argument an array of exactly the type used in the calls to the
function, if using GCC 11 or later. With older compilers, continue to
use __sigsetjmp with a cast, to avoid any issues with compilers
predating the returns_twice attribute not applying the same special
handling to __sigsetjmp_cancel as to __sigsetjmp.
Tested with build-many-glibcs.py for arm-linux-gnueabi that this fixes
the testsuite build failures.
The explicit error return value (without in-band signaling) avoids
complicated steps to detect errors based on whether errno has been
updated.

The __THROW macro and friends expand to "throw ()" for C++ code, but
that syntax is deprecated in C++11 and no longer supported at all since
C++20. In order for glibc headers to be compatible with C++20,
"noexcept" should be used instead.
This patch uses "noexcept (true)" rather than just "noexcept", which is
semantically equivalent, but avoids any possibility of parsing
ambiguities if the next preprocessor token happens to be an opening
parenthesis. This is probably unnecessary, but it seems safer to be
cautious.
It replaces the internal usage of __{f,l}xstat{at}{64} with the
__{f,l}stat{at}{64}. It should not change the generate code since
sys/stat.h explicit defines redirections to internal calls back to
xstat* symbols.
Checked with a build for all affected ABIs. I also check on
x86_64-linux-gnu and i686-linux-gnu.

Properly serialize the access to the global state shared between the
syslog functions, to avoid races in multithreaded processes. Protect a
local allocation in the __vsyslog_internal function from leaking during
cancellation.
The variable is placed in libc.so, and it can be true only in
an outer libc, not libcs loaded via dlmopen or static dlopen.
Since thread creation from inner namespaces does not work,
pthread_create can update __libc_single_threaded directly.
Using __libc_early_init and its initial flag, implementation of this
variable is very straightforward. A future version may reset the flag
during fork (but not in an inner namespace), or after joining all
threads except one.

alternative formats for long double.
Likewise, rename __LONG_DOUBLE_USES_FLOAT128 to

never defined. Also add the misssing attribute_compat_text_section
attribute to the sstk function (a minor optimization). Also update the

It is not implemented anywhere. There is an osf_sstk system call on
alpha, but it is not used to implement sstk, and the system call
is not implemented on Linux, either.
Add a test to pass 64-bit long arguments to syscall with undefined upper
32 bits on x32.
Tested on i386, x86-64 and x32 as well as with build-many-glibcs.py.
The new type struct fd_to_filename makes the allocation of the
backing storage explicit.
Hurd uses /dev/fd, not /proc/self/fd.

All functions that have a format string, which can consume a long double
argument, must have one version for each long double format supported on
a platform. On powerpc64le, these functions currently have two versions
(i.e.: long double with the same format as double, and long double with
IBM Extended Precision format). Support for a third long double format
option (i.e. long double with IEEE long double format) is being prepared
and all the aforementioned functions now have a third version (not yet
exported on the master branch, but the code is in).
For these functions to get selected (during build time), references to
them in user programs (or dependent libraries) must get redirected to
the aforementioned new versions of the functions. This patch installs
the header magic required to perform such redirections.
Notice, however, that since the redirections only happen when
__LONG_DOUBLE_USES_FLOAT128 is set to 1, and no platform (including
powerpc64le) currently does it, no redirections actually happen.
Redirections and the exporting of the new functions will happen at the
same time (when powerpc64le adds ldbl-128ibm-compat to their Implies.

This patch adds IEEE long double versions of q*cvt* functions for
powerpc64le. Unlike all other long double to/from string conversion
functions, these do not rely on internal functions that can take
floating-point numbers with different formats and act on them
accordingly, instead, the related files are rebuilt with the
-mabi=ieeelongdouble compiler flag set.
Having -mabi=ieeelongdouble passed to the compiler causes the object
files to be marked with a .gnu_attribute that is incompatible with the
.gnu_attribute in files built with -mabi=ibmlongdouble (the default).
The difference causes error messages similar to the following:
ld: libc_pic.a(s_isinfl.os) uses IBM long double,
libc_pic.a(ieee128-qefgcvt_r.os) uses IEEE long double.
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
make[2]: *** [../Makerules:649: libc_pic.os] Error 1
Although this warning is useful in other situations, the library
actually needs to have functions with different long double formats, so
.gnu_attribute generation is explicitly disabled for these files with
the use of -mno-gnu-attribute.
Tested for powerpc64le on the branch that actually enables the
sysdeps/ieee754/ldbl-128ibm-compat for powerpc64le.

The generic pselect implementation has the very specific race condition
that motived the creation of the pselect syscall (no atomicity in
signal mask set/reset). Using it as generic implementation is
counterproductive Also currently only microblaze uses it as fallback
when used on kernel prior 3.15.
This patch moves the generic implementation to a microblaze specific
one, sets the generic internal as a ENOSYS, and cleanups the Linux
generic implementation.
The microblaze implementation mimics the previous Linux generic one,
where it either uses pselect6 directly if __ASSUME_PSELECT or a
first try pselect6 then the fallback otherwise.
Checked on x86_64-linux-gnu and microblaze-linux-gnu.
This causes issues when using clang with -frewrite-includes to e.g.,
submit the translation unit to a distributed compiler.
In my case, I was building Firefox using sccache.
See [1] for a reduced test-case since I initially thought this was a
clang bug, and [2] for more context.
Apparently doing this is invalid C++ per [cpp.cond], which mentions [3]:
> The #ifdef and #ifndef directives, and the defined conditional
> inclusion operator, shall treat __has_include and __has_cpp_attribute
> as if they were the names of defined macros. The identifiers

As for gettimeofday, time will be implemented based on clock_gettime
on all platforms and internal code should use clock_gettime
directly. In addition to removing a layer of indirection, this will
allow us to remove the PLT-bypass gunk for gettimeofday.
The changed code always assumes __clock_gettime (CLOCK_REALTIME)
or __clock_gettime (CLOCK_REALTIME_COARSE) (for Linux case) cannot
fail, using the same rationale for gettimeofday change. And internal
helper was added (time_now).
Checked on x86_64-linux-gnu, i686-linux-gnu, powerpc64le-linux-gnu,
powerpc64-linux-gnu, and powerpc-linux-gnu.

Historically autofs mounts were not included in mount table
listings. This is the case in other SysV autofs implementations
and was also the case with Linux autofs.
But now that /etc/mtab is a symlink to the proc filesystem
mount table the autofs mount entries appear in the mount table
on Linux.
Prior to the symlinking of /etc/mtab mount table it was
sufficient to call mount(2) and simply not update /etc/mtab
to exclude autofs mounts from mount listings.
Also, with the symlinking of /etc/mtab we have seen a shift in
usage toward using the proc mount tables directly.
But the autofs mount entries need to be retained when coming
from the proc file system for applications that need them
(largely autofs file system users themselves) so filtering out
these entries within the kernel itself can't be done. So it
needs be done in user space.
There are three reasons to omit the autofs mount entries.
One is that certain types of auto-mounts have an autofs mount
for every entry in their autofs mount map and these maps can
be quite large. This leads to mount table listings containing
a lot of unnecessary entries.
Also, this change in behaviour between autofs implementations
can cause problems for applications that use getmntent(3) in
other OS implementations as well as Linux.
Lastly, there's very little that user space can do with autofs
mount entries since this must be left to the autofs mount owner,
typically the automount daemon. But it can also lead to attempts
to access automount managed paths resulting mounts being triggered
when they aren't needed or mounts staying mounted for much longer
thay they need be. While the point of this change ins't to help
with these problems (and it can be quite a problem) it may be
a welcome side effect.
So the Linux autofs file system has been modified to accept a
pseudo mount option of "ignore" (as is used in other OS
implementations) so that user space can use this as a hint to
skip autofs entries on reading the mount table.
The Linux autofs automount daemon used getmntent(3) itself and
has been modified to use the proc file system directly so that
it can "ignore" mount option.
The use of this mount option is opt-in and a configuration
option has been added which defaults to not use this option
so if there are applications that need these entries, other
than autofs itself, they can be retained. Also, since this
filtering is based on an added mount option earlier versions
of Linux autofs iand other autofs file system users will not
use the option and so won't be affected by the change.
Both the buffer and struct mntent are now allocated on the heap.
This results in a slight reduction of RSS usage.

It doesn't make sense to remove all the internal uses of time.
It's still a standard ISO C function, and its callers don't need
sub-second resolution and would be unnecessarily complicated if
they had to declare a struct timespec instead of just a time_t.
However, a handful of places were using the vestigial "result"
argument instead of the return value, which is slightly less
efficient and also looks strange. Correct this.

This patch adds test cases for the compatibility versions of the
functions: err, errx, verr, verrx, warn, warnx, vwarn, vwarnx (from
err.h), error, and error_at_line (from error.h), when long double has
the same format as double (-mlong-double-64).
Tested for powerpc, powerpc64 and powerpc64le.
On platforms where long double may have the same format as double
(-mlong-double-64), error and error_at_line do not take that into
account and might produce wrong output if a long double conversion is
requested by the format string ('%Lf'). This patch adds compatibility
functions for this situation and redirects calls via header magic.
Tested for powerpc, powerpc64 and powerpc64le.
When support for long double format with 128-bits (-mlong-double-128)
was added for platforms where long double had the same format as double,
such as powerpc, compatibility versions for the functions listed in the
commit title were missed. Since the older format of long double can
still be used (with -mlong-double-64), using these functions with a
format string that requests the printing of long double variables will
produce wrong outputs.
This patch adds the missing compatibility functions and header magic to
redirect calls to them when -mlong-double-64 is in use.
Tested for powerpc, powerpc64 and powerpc64le.
Since the introduction of explicit flags in the internal implementation
of the printf family of functions, the 'mode' parameter can be used to
select which format long double parameters have (with the mode flag:
PRINTF_LDBL_IS_DBL). This patch uses this feature in the implementation
of some functions in argp.h, err.h, and error.h (only those that take a
format string and positional parameters). Future patches will add
support for 'nldbl' and 'ieee128' versions of these functions.
Tested for powerpc64le and x86_64.
This patch adds fall-through comments in some cases where -Wextra
produces implicit-fallthrough warnings.
The patch is non-exhaustive. Apart from architecture-specific code
for non-x86_64 architectures, it does not change sunrpc/xdr.c (legacy
code, probably should have such changes, but left to be dealt with
separately), or places that already had comments about the
fall-through but not matching the form expected by
-Wimplicit-fallthrough=3 (the default level with -Wextra; my
inclination is to adjust those comments to match rather than
downgrading to -Wimplicit-fallthrough=1 to allow any comment), or one
place where I thought the implicit fallthrough was not correct and so
should be handled separately as a bug fix. I think the key thing to
consider in review of this patch is whether the fall-through is indeed
intended and correct in each place where such a comment is added.

The test case misc/tst-efgcvt.c only tests the double variants of the
Old-fashioned System V number-to-string functions: ecvt, fcvt, and their
re-entrant counterparts. With a few macros, the code can be reused for
the long double versions of these functions. A future patch will reuse
it again for IEEE long double on powerpc64le.
Tested for powerpc and powerpc64le.
__nldbl___vsyslog_chk will ultimately want to pass PRINTF_LDBL_IS_DBL
down to __vfprintf_internal *as well as* possibly setting PRINTF_FORTIFY.
To make that possible, we need a __vsyslog_internal that takes the
same flags as printf. The code in misc/syslog.c does also get a
little simpler.
Tested for powerpc and powerpc64le.
GCC 9 has gained an enhancement to help detect attribute mismatches
between alias declarations and their targets. It consists of a new
warning, -Wattribute-alias, an enhancement to an existing warning,
-Wmissing-attributes, and a new attribute called copy.
The purpose of the warnings is to help identify either possible bugs
(an alias declared with more restrictive attributes than its target
promises) or optimization or diagnostic opportunities (an alias target
missing some attributes that it could be declared with that might
benefit analysis and code generation). The purpose of the new
attribute is to easily apply (almost) the same set of attributes
to one declaration as those already present on another.
As expected (and intended) the enhancement triggers warnings for
many alias declarations in Glibc code. This change, tested on
x86_64-linux, avoids all instances of the new warnings by making
use of the attribute where appropriate. To fully benefit from
the enhancement Glibc will need to be compiled with
-Wattribute-alias=2 and remaining warnings reviewed and dealt with
(there are a couple of thousand but most should be straightforward
to deal with).

The function do_test, in tst-efgcvt.c, increments an error counter for
each error that it finds, then returns it to the test framework.
However, the test framework does not expect an error count as return,
but zero for a passing test, one for a failing test, or 77 for an
unsupported test. Alternatively, the framework provides the function
support_record_failure that records errors, which then allows the test
program to return zero unconditionally.
This patch removes the error counter, replaces each increment of the
counter with a call to support_record_failure, and makes do_test
unconditionally return zero.
Tested for powerpc64le (as-is and with a patched results table to check
that the error reporting actually works).

added the new macro TEST_COMPARE_STRING, which compares the output of
functions under test against expected strings, and, when there's a
mismatch, automatically reports an error and prints the differences.
This patch adapts recently added test cases to use this new macro.
Tested for powerpc64le (as is, and locally patched to intentionally fail
and produce error output).

The fallback code of Linux wrapper for preadv2/pwritev2 executes
regardless of the errno code for preadv2, instead of the case where
the syscall is not supported.
This fixes it by calling the fallback code iff errno is ENOSYS. The
patch also adds tests for both invalid file descriptor and invalid
iov_len and vector count.
The only discrepancy between preadv2 and fallback code regarding
error reporting is when an invalid flags are used. The fallback code
bails out earlier with ENOTSUP instead of EINVAL/EBADF when the syscall
is used.
Checked on x86_64-linux-gnu on a 4.4.0 and 4.15.0 kernel.

On x86, when shadow stack is enabled, __INDIRECT_RETURN is defined
with indirect_return attribute, which has been added to GCC 9, to
indicate that swapcontext returns via indirect branch. Otherwise
__INDIRECT_RETURN is defined with returns_twice attribute.
When shadow stack is enabled, remove always_inline attribute from
prepare_test_buffer in string/tst-xbzero-opt.c to avoid:

As for sysctl, ustat has been deprecated in favor of {f}statfs. Also

the symbol.
Checked on x86_64-linux-gnu and i686-linux-gnu. Also checked with a
check-abi on all affected ABIs.

-Os that arise from functions not being inlined in that case, this
patch fixes such failures for putc_unlocked and fputc_unlocked.
libc_hidden_* are used for both functions, while namespace issues are
addressed by making putc_unlocked a weak alias of hidden
__putc_unlocked, which is called in the one place where namespace
issues arise (and defined as an inline function in include/stdio.h).
Tested for x86_64 (both without -Os to make sure that case continues
to work, and with -Os to make sure all the relevant linknamespace and
localplt test failures are resolved). This completes fixing the -Os
linknamespace failures (at least for x86_64); localplt failures remain
after this patch.

Building with -Os produces linknamespace and localplt failures for,
among other functions, gnu_dev_major, gnu_dev_minor and
gnu_dev_makedev.
The issue is that those functions are not inlined when building with
-Os. While one could force them to be inlined in that case, it seems
more natural to fix this issue similarly to other namespace issues.
Thus, this patch makes gnu_dev_* into weak aliases for hidden symbols
__gnu_dev_*; __gnu_dev_* are then defined as inlines in the internal
include/sys/sysmacros.h, and uses of gnu_dev_* (often via the macros
major, minor and makedev) for which there are namespace issues are
changed to use __gnu_dev_*; where there are no namespace issues, use
of libc_hidden_proto serves to avoid unnecessary local PLT entry use.
Tested for x86_64, (a) without -Os, to verify the testsuite continues
to pass without problems and that the functions called under their new
names continue to be inlined as expected in that case; (b) with -Os,
to verify that the linknamespace and localplt failures in question go
away (but because of other such failures present, neither of the
relevant bugs can yet be closed).

Bug 17721 reports that the non-__GNUC__ definitions of __inline and
__restrict are suboptimal, in that they are defined to empty when they

non-__GNUC__ compiler and it's likely such compilers may have other

sys/cdefs.h has a macro __long_double_t used in two places in glibc.
long double is a standard part of C since C89; there is no need for
such an alias for it. This patch removes that macro and uses long
double directly everywhere. As an implementation-namespace,
undocumented symbol, it should not be considered part of the API for
users, and codesearch.debian.net shows no sign of it being used
outside glibc in a way that would break with this patch.

This patch add an extra test for passing invalid flags and check its
expected failure. It shows an invalid LO_HI_LONG macro definition for

architecture that uses the compat syscall definition due a kernel bug.
It is intended to be fixed upstream.

__need_FOPEN_MAX wasn't being used anywhere. __need_IOV_MAX was more
complicated; the basic deal is that sys/uio.h wants to define a
constant named UIO_MAXIOV and bits/xopen_lim.h wants to define a
constant named IOV_MAX, with the same meaning. For no apparent reason
this was being handled via bits/stdio_lim.h -- stdio.h is NOT supposed
to define IOV_MAX -- and some mess in Makerules. Also, bits/uio.h on
Linux was being used as a dumping ground for extension functions.
So now we have bits/uio_lim.h, which defines __IOV_MAX.
bits/xopen_lim.h and sys/uio.h use that to define their respective
constants. We also now have bits/uio-ext.h, which is the official
Proper Home for extensions to sys/uio.h. bits/uio.h is removed, and
stdio_lim.h doesn't define IOV_MAX at all.

This patch adds support of preadv2 and pwritev2 which are similar to
preadv/pwritev but with an extra flag argument. As for preadv/pwritev
both interfaces are added a non-standard GNU API.
For default 'posix' implementation trying to emulate the Linux supported
flags is troublesome:
* We can not temporary change the file state of the O_DSYNC and O_SYNC
flags to emulate RWF_{D}SYNC (attempts to change the state of using
fcntl are silently ignored).
* IOCB_HIPRI requires the file opened in O_DIRECT and uses an internal
semantic not provided by any other flag (O_NONBLOCK for instance).
So default sysdeps/posix implementations fails with EOPNOTSUPP for any non
supported flag (which are none currently) calls generic preadv/pwritev.
Basically this implementation supports only preadv2 called as preadv (with
flags sets to 0).
The Linux one uses the preadv2/pwritev2 syscall if defined, otherwise it
call preadv/writev. Instead of using the previous __ASSUME_* to
unconditionally issue the syscall (and avoid building the fallback routine),
it call pread/write if the preadv2/pwritev2 syscalls fails. The idea
is just avoid adding another __ASSUME_* and checking each architecture
on every kernel bump and simplify code conditionals.

The types affected are __sig_atomic_t, sig_atomic_t, __sigset_t,
sigset_t, sigval_t, sigevent_t, and siginfo_t. __sig_atomic_t is a
scalar, so it's now directly available from bits/types.h. The others
get bits/types/ headers.
Side effects include: There have been small changes to which
non-signal headers expose which subset of the signal-related types.
A couple of architectures' nested siginfo_t fields had to be renamed
to prevent undesired macro expansion. Internal code that wants to
manipulate signal masks must now include <sigsetops.h> (which is not
installed) and should be aware that __sigaddset, __sigandset,
__sigdelset, __sigemptyset, and __sigorset no longer return a value
(unlike the public API). Relatedly, the public signal.h no longer
declares any of those functions. The obsolete sigmask() macro no
longer has a system-specific definition -- in the cases where it
matters, it didn't work anyway.
New Linux architectures should create bits/siginfo-arch.h and/or
bits/siginfo-consts-arch.h to customize their siginfo_t, rather than
duplicating everything in bits/siginfo.h (which no longer exists).
Add new __SI_* macros if necessary. Ports to other operating systems
are strongly encouraged to generalize this scheme further.

This patch adds a new build module called 'testsuite'.
IS_IN (testsuite) implies _ISOMAC, as do IS_IN_build and __cplusplus
(which means several ad-hoc tests for __cplusplus can go away).
libc-symbols.h now suppresses almost all of *itself* when _ISOMAC is
defined; in particular, _ISOMAC mode does not get config.h
automatically anymore.
There are still quite a few tests that need to see internal gunk of
one variety or another. For them, we now have 'tests-internal' and
'test-internal-extras'; files in this category will still be compiled
with MODULE_NAME=nonlib, and everything proceeds as it always has.
The bulk of this patch is moving tests from 'tests' to
'tests-internal'. There is also 'tests-static-internal', which has
the same effect on files in 'tests-static', and 'modules-names-tests',
which has the *inverse* effect on files in 'modules-names' (it's
inverted because most of the things in modules-names are *not* tests).
For both of these, the file must appear in *both* the new variable and
the old one.
There is also now a special case for when libc-symbols.h is included
without MODULE_NAME being defined at all. (This happens during the
creation of libc-modules.h, and also when preprocessing Versions
files.) When this happens, IS_IN is set to be always false and
_ISOMAC is *not* defined, which was the status quo, but now it's
explicit.
The remaining changes to C source files in this patch seemed likely to
cause problems in the absence of the main change. They should be
relatively self-explanatory. In a few cases I duplicated a definition
from an internal header rather than move the test to tests-internal;
this was a judgement call each time and I'm happy to change those
however reviewers feel is more appropriate.
* Makerules: New subdir configuration variables 'tests-internal'
and 'test-internal-extras'. Test files in these categories will
still be compiled with MODULE_NAME=nonlib. Test files in the
existing categories (tests, xtests, test-srcs, test-extras) are

sys/socket.h includes sys/uio.h to get the definition of the iovec
structure.
POSIX allows sys/socket.h to make all sys/uio.h symbols visible.
However, all of sys/uio.h is XSI-shaded, so for non-XSI POSIX this
results in conformtest failures (for sys/socket.h and other headers
that include it):
Namespace violation: "UIO_MAXIOV"
Namespace violation: "readv"
Namespace violation: "writev"
Now, there is some ambiguity in POSIX about what namespace
reservations apply in this case - see
http://austingroupbugs.net/view.php?id=1127 - but glibc convention
would still avoid declaring readv and writev, for example, for feature
test macros that don't include them (if only headers from the relevant
standard are included), even if such declarations are permitted, so
there is a bug here according to glibc conventions.
This patch moves the struct iovec definition to a new
bits/types/struct_iovec.h header and includes that from sys/socket.h
instead of including the whole of sys/uio.h. This fixes the namespace
issue; however, three files in glibc that were relying on the implicit
inclusion needed to be updated to include sys/uio.h explicitly. So
there is a question of whether sys/socket.h should continue to include
sys/uio.h under some conditions, such as __USE_XOPEN or __USE_MISC or
__USE_XOPEN || __USE_MISC, for greater compatibility with code that
(wrongly) expects this optional inclusion to be present there. (I
think the three affected files in glibc should still have explicit
sys/uio.h inclusions added in any case, however.)

glibc headers include some code (not particularly consistent or
systematic) to put various declarations in C++ namespaces std and
__c99, if _GLIBCPP_USE_NAMESPACES is defined.
As noted in <https://gcc.gnu.org/ml/libstdc++/2017-03/msg00025.html>,
this macro was removed from libstdc++ in 2000. I don't expect
compilation with such old versions of libstdc++ to work with current
glibc headers anyway (whereas old *binaries* are expected to stay
working with current glibc); this patch (which should be a no-op with
any libstdc++ version postdating that removal) removes all this code
from the glibc headers.
The begin-end-check.pl test, whose comments say it is about checking
these namespace macro calls, is also removed. The code in that test
would have covered __BEGIN_DECLS / __END_DECLS as well, but if those
weren't properly matched it would show up with the
check-installed-headers-cxx tests, so I don't think there is an actual
use for keeping begin-end-check.pl with the namespace code removed.
Tested for x86_64 and x86 (testsuite, and that installed stripped
shared libraries are unchanged by the patch).

posix/wordexp-test.c used libc-internal.h for PTR_ALIGN_DOWN; similar
to what was done with libc-diag.h, I have split the definitions of
cast_to_integer, ALIGN_UP, ALIGN_DOWN, PTR_ALIGN_UP, and PTR_ALIGN_DOWN
to a new header, libc-pointer-arith.h.
It then occurred to me that the remaining declarations in libc-internal.h
are mostly to do with early initialization, and probably most of the
files including it, even in the core code, don't need it anymore. Indeed,
only 19 files actually need what remains of libc-internal.h. 23 others
need libc-diag.h instead, and 12 need libc-pointer-arith.h instead.
No file needs more than one of them, and 16 don't need any of them!
So, with this patch, libc-internal.h stops including libc-diag.h as
well as losing the pointer arithmetic macros, and all including files
are adjusted.

Quite a few tests include libc-internal.h just for the DIAG_* macros.
Split those macros to their own file, which can be included safely in
_ISOMAC mode. I also moved ignore_value, since it seems logically
related, even though I didn't notice any tests needing it.
Also add -Wnonnull suppressions to two tests that _should_ have them,
but the error is masked when compiling against internal headers.

The startup code in csu/, and the brk and sbrk functions are
needed very early in initialization of a statically-linked program,
before the stack guard is initialized; TLS initialization also uses
memcpy, which cannot overrun its own stack. Mark all of these as
-fno-stack-protector.
We also finally introduce @libc_cv_ssp@ and @no_stack_protector@, both
substituted by the configury changes made earlier, to detect the case
when -fno-stack-protector is supported by the compiler, and
unconditionally pass it in when this is the case, whether or not
--enable-stack-protector is passed to configure. (This means that
it'll even work when the compiler's been hacked to pass
-fstack-protector by default, unless the hackage is so broken that
it does so in a way that is impossible to override.)
Stack-protection on .o files in csu/ must be suppressed for the sake of
library startup code. This also suppresses stack-protection in tests
(which are also covered by CFLAGS-.o), though this is neither necessary
nor desirable.
So impose the rule that .o files in csu/ are necessarily C startup code,
and move the few tests in there into misc/ instead.
Information about whether the ABI of long double is the same as that
of double is split between bits/mathdef.h and bits/wordsize.h.
When the ABIs are the same, bits/mathdef.h defines
__NO_LONG_DOUBLE_MATH. In addition, in the case where the same glibc
binary supports both -mlong-double-64 and -mlong-double-128,
bits/wordsize.h defines __LONG_DOUBLE_MATH_OPTIONAL, along with
__NO_LONG_DOUBLE_MATH if this particular compilation is with
-mlong-double-64.
As part of the refactoring I proposed in
<https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2016-11/msg00745.html>, this
patch puts all that information in a single header,
bits/long-double.h. It is included from sys/cdefs.h alongside the
include of bits/wordsize.h, so other headers generally do not need to
include bits/long-double.h directly.
Previously, various bits/mathdef.h headers and bits/wordsize.h headers
had this long double information (including implicitly in some
bits/mathdef.h headers through not having the defines present in the
default version). After the patch, it's all in six bits/long-double.h
headers. Furthermore, most of those new headers are not
architecture-specific. Architectures with optional long double all
use the ldbl-opt sysdeps directory, either in the order (ldbl-64-128,
ldbl-opt, ldbl-128) or (ldbl-128ibm, ldbl-opt). Thus a generic header
for the case where long double = double, and headers in ldbl-128,
ldbl-96 and ldbl-opt, suffices to cover every architecture except for
cases where long double properties vary between different ABIs sharing
a set of installed headers; fortunately all the ldbl-opt cases share a
single compiler-predefined macro __LONG_DOUBLE_128__ that can be used
to tell whether this compilation is -mlong-double-64 or
-mlong-double-128.
The two cases where a set of headers is shared between ABIs with
different long double properties, MIPS (o32 has long double = double,
other ABIs use ldbl-128) and SPARC (32-bit has optional long double,
64-bit has required long double), need their own bits/long-double.h
headers.
As with bits/wordsize.h, multiple-include protection for this header
is generally implicit through the include guards on sys/cdefs.h, and
multiple inclusion is harmless in any case. There is one subtlety:
the header must not define __LONG_DOUBLE_MATH_OPTIONAL if
__NO_LONG_DOUBLE_MATH was defined before its inclusion, because doing
so breaks how sysdeps/ieee754/ldbl-opt/nldbl-compat.h defines
__NO_LONG_DOUBLE_MATH itself before including system headers. Subject
to keeping that working, it would be reasonable to move these macros
from defined/undefined #ifdef to always-defined 1/0 #if semantics, but
this patch does not attempt to do so, just rearranges where the macros
are defined.
After this patch, the only use of bits/mathdef.h is the alpha one for
modifying complex function ABIs for old GCC. Thus, all versions of
the header other than the default and alpha versions are removed, as
is the include from math.h.

By using __glibc_macro_warning instead of __attribute_deprecated__,
we get the deprecation warnings whenever the macros are expanded,
not just when they compile to a function call. This is important
for unintentional uses like the test case in #19239 (C++ var(value)
initialization syntax, with a variable named "major"). It's also
simpler, because __REDIRECT is no longer required.

Many headers are expected to expose a subset of the type definitions
in time.h. time.h has a whole bunch of messy logic for conditionally
defining some its types and structs, but, as best I can tell, this
has never worked 100%. In particular, __need_timespec is ineffective
if _TIME_H has already been defined, which means that if you compile

This patch replaces all of that with small bits/types/TYPE.h headers
as introduced earlier. time.h and bits/time.h are now *much* simpler,
and a lot of other headers are slightly simpler.

_LIBC, __USE_XOPEN2K8, and __STDC_VERSION__ are not always defined.
It seems to me that _LIBC should not appear in installed headers, but
avoiding that for argp specifically would require more surgery than
feels appropriate for this patch set. It's possible that
"#ifdef _LIBC" would be sufficient, but I wanted to be conservative.
All three versions of bits/socket.h want to know whether __flexarr
will produce a real flexible array member -- specifically, one that
doesn't alter sizeof(the structure containing it). They were testing
for this with a complicated #if condition that did not agree with
sys/cdefs.h and that tripped -Wundef warnings under -std=c90.
I added a new macro to sys/cdefs.h, __glibc_c99_flexarr_available,
which reveals exactly what these headers want to know. I also took
the opportunity to flatten the rather messy conditional nest defining
__flexarr.

A tsearch red-black tree node contains 3 pointers (key, left, right)
and 1 bit to hold the red-black flag. When allocating new nodes
this 1 bit is expanded to a full word. Causing the overhead per node
to be 3 times the key size.
We can reduce this overhead to just 2 times the key size.
malloc returns naturally aligned memory. All nodes are internally
allocated with malloc and the left/right node pointers are used
as implementation details. So we can use the low bits of the
left/right node pointers to store extra information.
Replace all direct accesses of the struct node_t node pointers and
red-black value with defines that take care of the red-black flag in
the low bit of the (left) node pointer. This reduces the size of the
nodes on 32-bit systems from 16 to 12 bytes and on 64-bit systems
from 32 to 24 bytes.
Also fix a call to CHECK_TREE so the code can be build (and tested)
with DEBUGGING defined again.
V2 changes:
- Add assert after malloc to catch any odd pointers from bad
interposed mallocs.

The macros defined by <sys/sysmacros.h> are not part of POSIX nor XSI, and
their names frequently collide with user code; see for instance glibc bug
19239 and Red Hat bug 130601. <stdlib.h> includes <sys/types.h> under
_GNU_SOURCE, and C++ code presently cannot avoid being compiled under
_GNU_SOURCE, exacerbating the problem.
* NEWS: Inclusion of <sys/sysmacros.h> by <sys/types.h> is deprecated.
* misc/sys/sysmacros.h: If __SYSMACROS_DEPRECATED_INCLUSION is defined,
define major, minor, and makedev to issue deprecation warnings on use.
If __SYSMACROS_DEPRECATED_INCLUSION is *not* defined, suppress
previously-activated deprecation warnings for these macros and prevent
subsequent inclusions of this header from having any effect.

Presently sys/sysmacros.h is entirely defined in sysdeps. This would
mean that the deprecation logic coming up in the next patch would have
to be written twice (in generic/ and unix/sysv/linux/). To avoid that,
hoist all but the unavoidably system-dependent logic to misc/, leaving a
bits/ header behind. This also promotes the Linux-specific encoding of
dev_t, which accommodates 32-bit major and minor numbers in a 64-bit dev_t,
to generic, as glibc's dev_t is always 64 bits wide.
The former Linux implementation used inline functions to avoid evaluating
arguments more than once. After this change, all platforms use inline
functions, which means that three new symbols are added to the generic ABI.
(These symbols are in the user namespace, which is how they have always
been on Linux. They begin with "gnu_dev_", so collisions with user code
are pretty unlikely.)
New ports henceforth need only provide a bits/sysmacros.h defining
internal macros __SYSMACROS_{DECLARE,DEFINE}_{MAJOR,MINOR,MAKEDEV}.
This is only necessary if the kernel encoding is incompatible with
the now-generic encoding (for instance, it would be necessary for
FreeBSD).
While I was at it, I added a basic round-trip test for these functions.

There are three new macros added to features.h and sys/cdefs.h:
* __glibc_clang_prereq: just like __GNUC_PREREQ, but for clang.
* __glibc_clang_has_extension: wraps clang's intrinsic __has_extension.
Writing "#if defined __clang__ && __has_extension (...)" doesn't work,
because compilers other than clang will object to the unknown macro
__has_extension even though they don't need to evaluate it.
Instead, write "#if __glibc_clang_has_extension (...)".
* __attribute_deprecated_msg__(msg): like __attribute_deprecated__, but
if possible, prints a message.
The first two are used to define the third. The third will be used
in subsequent patches.

The p{read,write}v{64} consolidation patch [1] added a wrong guard
for LO_HI_LONG definition. It currently uses both
'__WORDSIZE == 64' and 'defined __ASSUME_WORDSIZE64_ILP32' to set
the value to be passed in one argument, otherwise it will be split
in two.
However it fails on MIPS64n32 where syscalls n32 uses the compat
implementation in the kernel meaning the off_t arguments are passed
in two separate registers.
GLIBC already defines a macro for such cases (__OFF_T_MATCHES_OFF64_T),
so this patch uses it instead.
Checked on x86_64, i686, x32, aarch64, armhf, and s390.

This patch fixes the p{readv,writev}{64} consolidation implementation
from commits 4e77815 and af5fdf5. Different from pread/pwrite
implementation, preadv/pwritev implementation does not require
__ALIGNMENT_ARG because kernel syscall prototypes define
the high and low part of the off_t, if it is the case, directly
(different from pread/pwrite where the architecture ABI for passing
64-bit values must be in consideration for passsing the arguments).
It also adds some basic tests for preadv/pwritev.
Tested on x86_64, i686, and armhf.

For UNIX98 and older standards, sys/time.h should not define struct
timespec, but does so via the inclusion of sys/select.h (which is a
new header in the 2001 edition of POSIX, and defines struct timespec
because of the declaration of pselect, a new function in the 2001
edition of POSIX). In turn, this affects some other headers that
themselves include sys/time.h.
This patch fixes this by conditioning the __need_timespec definition
in sys/select.h on __USE_XOPEN2K, the same condition used there for
the declaration of pselect (this has no effect on direct uses of
sys/select.h with feature test macros for any standard that includes
that header, since such standards result in __USE_XOPEN2K being
defined).
Tested for x86_64 and x86 (testsuite, and that installed stripped
shared libraries are unchanged by the patch).

This mostly automatically-generated patch converts 113 function
definitions in glibc from old-style K&R to prototype-style. Following
my other recent such patches, this one deals with the case of function
definitions in files that either contain assertions or where grep
suggested they might contain assertions - and thus where it isn't
possible to use a simple object code comparison as a sanity check on
the correctness of the patch, because line numbers are changed.
A few such automatically-generated changes needed to be supplemented
by manual changes for the result to compile. openat64 had a prototype
declaration with "..." but an old-style definition in
sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/dl-openat64.c, and "..." needed adding to the
generated prototype in the definition (I've filed
<https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=68024> for diagnosing
such cases in GCC; the old state was undefined behavior not requiring
a diagnostic, but one seems a good idea). In addition, as Florian has
noted regparm attribute mismatches between declaration and definition
are only diagnosed for prototype definitions, and five functions
needed internal_function added to their definitions (in the case of
__pthread_mutex_cond_lock, via the macro definition of
__pthread_mutex_lock) to compile on i386.
After this patch is in, remaining old-style definitions are probably
most readily fixed manually before we can turn on
-Wold-style-definition for all builds.

This automatically-generated patch converts 29 function definitions in
glibc (including one in an example in the manual) from old-style K&R
to prototype-style. Following my other recent such patches, this one
