LoongArch is going to be the first architecture supported by Linux that
has neither fstat* nor newfstatat [1], instead exclusively relying on
statx. So in fstatat64's implementation, we need to also enable statx
usage if neither fstatat64 nor newfstatat is present, to prepare for
this new case of kernel ABI.

Linux 5.18 adds a constant MADV_DONTNEED_LOCKED (defined in multiple
header files, but with the same value on all architectures). Add this
constant to bits/mman-linux.h.
Tested for x86_64.
Linux 5.18 defines a new AArch64 HWCAP value HWCAP2_MTE3; add it to
glibc's sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/aarch64/bits/hwcap.h.
Tested with build-many-glibcs.py for aarch64-linux-gnu.
This patch updates the kernel version in the tests tst-mman-consts.py
and tst-pidfd-consts.py to 5.18. (There are no new constants covered
by these tests in 5.18, or in 5.17 in the case of tst-pidfd-consts.py
that previously used version 5.16, that need any other header
changes.)
Tested with build-many-glibcs.py.
Linux 5.18 has no new syscalls. Update the version number in
syscall-names.list to reflect that it is still current for 5.18.
Tested with build-many-glibcs.py.
To check for the pidfd functions pidfd_open, pidfd_getfd, pid_send_signal,
and waitid with P_PIDFD.

The Linux version used by i686 and m68k provide three overrrides for
generic code:
1. DISTINGUISH_LIB_VERSIONS to print additional information when
libc5 is used by a dependency.
2. EXTRA_LD_ENVVARS to that enabled LD_LIBRARY_VERSION environment
variable.
3. EXTRA_UNSECURE_ENVVARS to add two environment variables related
to aout support.
None are really requires, it has some decades since libc5 or aout
suppported was removed and Linux even remove support for aout files.
The LD_LIBRARY_VERSION is also dead code, dl_correct_cache_id is not
used anywhere.

The kernel version check is used to avoid glibc to run on older
kernels where some syscall are not available and fallback code are
not enabled to handle graciously fail. However, it does not prevent
if the kernel does not correctly advertise its version through
vDSO note, uname or procfs.
Also kernel version checks are sometime not desirable by users,
where they want to deploy on different system with different kernel
version knowing the minimum set of syscall is always presented on
such systems.
The kernel version check has been removed along with the
LD_ASSUME_KERNEL environment variable. The minimum kernel used to
built glibc is still provided through NT_GNU_ABI_TAG ELF note and
also printed when libc.so is issued.

Currently on Linux __get_nprocs_conf first tries to enumerate the
cpus present in the system by iterating on /sys/devices/system/cpuX
directories. This only enumerates the CPUs that are present in
system (but possibly offline), not taking in account possible CPU
that might added in the system through hotplugging.
Linux provides the maximum number of configured cpus on the
/sys/devices/system/cpu file. Although it might present a larger
value of possible active CPUs on some system (where kernel either
get the information from firmaware or is configured at boot time),
the information is what kernel presents to userland.
This also change the returned value of _SC_NPROCESSORS_CONF, which
aligns as the maximum configure cpu in the system.

The siglist.c is built with -fno-toplevel-reorder to avoid compiler
to reorder the compat assembly directives due an assembler
issue [1] (fixed on 2.39).
This patch removes the compiler flags by split the compat symbol
generation in two phases. First the __sys_siglist and __sys_sigabbrev
without any compat symbol directive is preprocessed to generate an
assembly source code. This generate assembly is then used as input
on a platform agnostic siglist.S which then creates the compat
definitions. This prevents compiler to move any compat directive
prior the _sys_errlist definition itself.
Checked on a make check run-built-tests=no on all affected ABIs.

Unlike MMAP_CALL, this avoids a TCB dependency for an errno update
on failure.
<mmap_internal.h> cannot be included as is on several architectures
due to the definition of page_unit, so introduce a separate header
file for the definition of MMAP_CALL and MMAP_CALL_INTERNAL,
<mmap_call.h>.

The AT_SYMLINK_NOFOLLOW emulation ues the default 32 bit stat internal
calls, which fails with EOVERFLOW if the file constains timestamps
beyond 2038.

This is necessary to place the libio vtables into the RELRO segment.
New tests elf/tst-relro-ldso and elf/tst-relro-libc are added to
verify that this is what actually happens.
The new tests fail on ia64 due to lack of (default) RELRO support
inbutils, so they are XFAILed there.
After 73fc4e28b9,
__libc_enable_secure_decided is always 0 and a statically linked
executable may overwrite __libc_enable_secure without considering
AT_SECURE.
The __libc_enable_secure has been correctly initialized in _dl_aux_init,
so just remove __libc_enable_secure_decided and __libc_init_secure.
This allows us to remove some startup_get*id functions from
22b79ed7f4.

On 32-bit machines this has no affect. On 64-bit machines
{u}int_fast{16|32} are set as {u}int64_t which is often not
ideal. Particularly x86_64 this change both saves code size and
may save instruction cost.
Full xcheck passes on x86_64.
start_addresses in sysdeps/powerpc/powerpc64/start.S is historical
baggage that should disappear. Until someone does that, relocating
stinfo->main by hand is one solution to the fact that the field may be
unrelocated at the time it is accessed. This is similar to what is
done for dynamic tags via the D_PTR macro. stinfo->init and
stinfo->fini are zero in both powerpc64/start.S and powerpc32/start.S,
so make it a little more obvious they are unused by passing NULLs to
LIBC_START_MAIN. The makefile change is needed to pick up
elf/dl-static-tls.h from dl-machine.h.

Compilers may decide to put the rfv variable in .data rather than on
the stack. It's slightly better to put it in .data.rel.ro.local
instead. Regardles of that, making it const may enable further
optimisations. Found when examining relative relocations (GOT ones
in particular) as part of enabling static-pie for PowerPC64.
The __closefrom_fallback tries to get a available file descriptor
if the initial open ("/proc/self/fd/", ...) fails. It assumes the
failure would be only if procfs is not mount (ENOENT), however if
the the proc file is not accessible (due some other kernel filtering
such apparmor) it will iterate over a potentially large file set
issuing close calls.
It should only try the close fallback if open returns EMFILE,
ENFILE, or ENOMEM.
Checked on x86_64-linux-gnu.

The current getcontext return trampoline is overly complex and it
unnecessarily clobbers several registers. By saving the context
pointer (r26) in the context, __getcontext_ret can restore any
registers not restored by setcontext. This allows getcontext to
save and restore the entire register context present when getcontext
is entered. We use the unused oR0 context slot for the return
from __getcontext_ret.
While this is not directly useful in C, it can be exploited in
assembly code. Registers r20, r23, r24 and r25 are not clobbered
in the call path to getcontext. This allows a small simplification
of swapcontext.
It also allows saving and restoring the 6-bit SAR register in the
LSB of the oSAR context slot. The getcontext flag value can be
stored in the MSB of the oSAR slot.
This change fixes the failure of stdlib/tst-setcontext2 and
stdlib/tst-setcontext7 on hppa. The implementation of swapcontext
in C is broken. C saves the return pointer (rp) and any non
call-clobbered registers (in this case r3, r4 and r5) on the
stack. However, the setcontext call in swapcontext pops the
stack and subsequent calls clobber the saved registers. When
the context in oucp is restored, both tests fault.
Here we rewrite swapcontext in assembly code to avoid using
the stack for register values that need to be used after
restoration. The getcontext and setcontext routines are
revised to save and restore register ret1 for normal returns.
We copy the oucp pointer to ret1. This allows access to
the old context after calling getcontext and setcontext.
On Microblaze only __NR_newselect is implemented, even though kernel
advertise __NR_select on asm/unistd.h. Since microblaze is the
only architecture that undef __ASSUME_PSELECT, the generic code
change is simpler than chaging the architecture syscall number.

revert is not perfect because the commit included a bug fix for
_dl_sysdep_start with an empty argv, introduced in commit
2d47fa6862 ("Linux: Remove
DL_FIND_ARG_COMPONENTS"), and this bug fix is kept.
The revert is necessary because the reverted commit introduced an
early memset call on aarch64, which leads to crash due to lack of TCB
initialization.
And optimize it slightly.
The large switch statement in _dl_sysdep_start can be replaced with
a large array. This reduces source code and binary size. On
i686-linux-gnu:

get_nprocs() and get_nprocs_conf() use various methods to obtain an
accurate number of processors. Re-introduce __get_nprocs_sched() as
a source of information, and fix the order in which these methods are
used to return the most accurate information. The primary source of
information used in both functions remains unchanged.
This also changes __get_nprocs_sched() error return value from 2 to 0,
but all its users are already prepared to handle that.

Commit 948ce73b31 made recvmsg/recvmmsg to always call
__convert_scm_timestamps for 64 bit time_t symbol, so adjust it to
always build it for __TIMESIZE != 64.
It fixes build for architecture with 32 bit time_t support when
configured with minimum kernel of 5.1.
Pass the actual number of bytes returned by the kernel.

The posix_spawnattr_tcsetpgrp_np works on a file descriptor (the
controlling terminal), so it would make more sense to actually fit
it on the file actions API.
Also, POSIX_SPAWN_TCSETPGROUP is not really required since it is
implicit by the presence of tcsetpgrp file action.
The posix/tst-spawn6.c is also fixed when TTY can is not present.

The timestamps created by __convert_scm_timestamps only make sense for
64 bit time_t programs, 32 bit time_t programs will ignore 64 bit time_t
timestamps since SO_TIMESTAMP will be defined to old values (either by
glibc or kernel headers).
Worse, if the buffer is not suffice MSG_CTRUNC is set to indicate it
(which breaks some programs [1]).
This patch makes only 64 bit time_t recvmsg and recvmmsg to call
__convert_scm_timestamps. Also, the assumption to called it is changed
from __ASSUME_TIME64_SYSCALLS to __TIMESIZE != 64 since the setsockopt
might be called by libraries built without __TIME_BITS=64. The
MSG_CTRUNC is only set for the 64 bit symbols, it should happen only
if 64 bit time_t programs run older kernels.

The __convert_scm_timestamps only updates the control message last
pointer for SOL_SOCKET type, so if the message control buffer contains
multiple ancillary message types the converted timestamp one might
overwrite a valid message.
The test checks if the extra ancillary space is correctly handled
by recvmsg/recvmmsg, where if there is no extra space for the 64-bit
time_t converted message the control buffer should be marked with
MSG_TRUNC. It also check if recvmsg/recvmmsg handle correctly multiple
ancillary data.
Checked on x86_64-linux and on i686-linux-gnu on both 5.11 and
4.15 kernel.

The glibc 2.34 release really should have added a GLIBC_2.34
symbol to the dynamic loader. With it, we could move functions such
as dlopen or pthread_key_create that work on process-global state
into the dynamic loader (once we have fixed a longstanding issue
with static linking). Without the GLIBC_2.34 symbol, yet another
new symbol version would be needed because old glibc will fail to
load binaries due to the missing symbol version in ld.so that newly
linked programs will require.

Currently there is no proper way to set the controlling terminal through
posix_spawn in race free manner [1]. This forces shell implementations
to keep using fork+exec when launching background process groups,
even when using posix_spawn yields better performance.
This patch adds a new GNU extension so the creating process can
configure the created process terminal group. This is done with a new
flag, POSIX_SPAWN_TCSETPGROUP, along with two new attribute functions:
posix_spawnattr_tcsetpgrp_np, and posix_spawnattr_tcgetpgrp_np.
The function sets a new attribute, spawn-tcgroupfd, that references to
the controlling terminal.
The controlling terminal is set after the spawn-pgroup attribute, and
uses the spawn-tcgroupfd along with current creating process group
(so it is composable with POSIX_SPAWN_SETPGROUP).
To create a process and set the controlling terminal, one can use the
following sequence:

The controlling terminal file descriptor is ignored if the new flag is
not set.
This interface is slight different than the one provided by QNX [2],
which only provides the POSIX_SPAWN_TCSETPGROUP flag. The QNX
documentation does not specify how the controlling terminal is obtained
nor how it iteracts with POSIX_SPAWN_SETPGROUP. Since a glibc
implementation is library based, it is more straightforward and avoid
requires additional file descriptor operations to request the caller
to setup the controlling terminal file descriptor (and it also allows
a bit less error handling by posix_spawn).

No valid path returned by getcwd would fit into 1 byte, so reject the
size early and return NULL with errno set to ERANGE. This change is
prompted by CVE-2021-3999, which describes a single byte buffer
underflow and overflow when all of the following conditions are met:
- The buffer size (i.e. the second argument of getcwd) is 1 byte
- The current working directory is too long
- '/' is also mounted on the current working directory
Sequence of events:
- In sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/getcwd.c, the syscall returns ENAMETOOLONG
because the linux kernel checks for name length before it checks
buffer size
- The code falls back to the generic getcwd in sysdeps/posix
- In the generic func, the buf[0] is set to '\0' on line 250
- this while loop on line 262 is bypassed:
while (!(thisdev == rootdev && thisino == rootino))
since the rootfs (/) is bind mounted onto the directory and the flow
goes on to line 449, where it puts a '/' in the byte before the
buffer.
- Finally on line 458, it moves 2 bytes (the underflowed byte and the
'\0') to the buf[0] and buf[1], resulting in a 1 byte buffer overflow.
- buf is returned on line 469 and errno is not set.
This resolves BZ #28769.

It is similar to epoll_wait, with the difference the timeout has
nanosecond resoluting by using struct timespec instead of int.
Although Linux interface only provides 64 bit time_t support, old
32 bit interface is also provided (so keep in sync with current
practice and to no force opt-in on 64 bit time_t).

The configure check for CAN_USE_REGISTER_ASM_EBP tried to compile a
simple function that uses %ebp as an inline assembly operand. If
compilation failed, CAN_USE_REGISTER_ASM_EBP was set 0, which
eventually had these consequences:
(1) %ebx was avoided as an inline assembly operand, with an
assembler macro hack to avoid unnecessary register moves.
(2) %ebp was avoided as an inline assembly operand, using an
out-of-line syscall function for 6-argument system calls.
(1) is no longer needed for any GCC version that is supported for
building glibc. %ebx can be used directly as a register operand.
Therefore, this commit removes the %ebx avoidance completely. This
avoids the assembler macro hack, which turns out to be incompatible
with the current Systemtap probe macros (which switch to .altmacro
unconditionally).
(2) is still needed in many build configurations. The existing
configure check cannot really capture that because the simple function
succeeds to compile, while the full glibc build still fails.
Therefore, this commit removes the check, the CAN_USE_REGISTER_ASM_EBP
macro, and uses the out-of-line syscall function for 6-argument system
calls unconditionally.

The __convert_scm_timestamps() only updates the control message last
pointer for SOL_SOCKET type, so if the message control buffer contains
multiple ancillary message types the converted timestamp one might
overwrite a valid message.
The test check if the extra ancillary space is correctly handled
by recvmsg/recvmmsg, where if there is no extra space for the 64-bit
time_t converted message the control buffer should be marked with
MSG_TRUNC. It also check if recvmsg/recvmmsg handle correctly multiple
ancillary data.
Checked on x86_64-linux and on i686-linux-gnu on both 5.11 and
4.15 kernel.

Indicates the availability of enhanced counter virtualization extension
of armv8.6-a with self-synchronized virtual counter CNTVCTSS_EL0 usable
in userspace.
Trapping SIGSEGV within the process is error-prone, adds security
issues, and modern analysis design tends to happen out of the
process (either by attaching a debugger or by post-mortem analysis).
The libSegfault also has some design problems, it uses non
async-signal-safe function (backtrace) on signal handler.
There are multiple alternatives if users do want to use similar
functionality, such as sigsegv gnulib module or libsegfault.
Here we define the minumum linux kernel version at 5.4.0, as that is the
long term support version where 32-bit architectures start to support
64-bit time API's. The OpenRISC kernel had some bugs up until version 5.8
which caused issues with glibc fork/clone, they have been backported to
5.4 but not previous versions.

I've updated copyright dates in glibc for 2022. This is the patch for
the changes not generated by scripts/update-copyrights and subsequent
build / regeneration of generated files. As well as the usual annual
updates, mainly dates in --version output (minus csu/version.c which
previously had to be handled manually but is now successfully updated
by update-copyrights), there is a small change to the copyright notice
in NEWS which should let NEWS get updated automatically next year.
Please remember to include 2022 in the dates for any new files added
in future (which means updating any existing uncommitted patches you
have that add new files to use the new copyright dates in them).
I used these shell commands:

Commit a4b4131355 changed default __TIMESIZE to 64, however
it added sub-architecture timesize.h for powerpc, s390, and
sparc.
Also simplify mips by removing _MIPS_SIM usage (which would require
to add sgidefs inclusion.
When running tests on OpenRISC which has 32-bit wordsize but 64-bit
timesize it was found that O_LARGEFILE is not being set when calling
open64. For 64-bit architectures the O_LARGEFILE flag is generally
implied by the kernel according to force_o_largefile. However, for
32-bit architectures this is not done.
For this patch we unconditionally now set the O_LARGEFILE flag for
open64 class syscalls as there is no harm in doing so.
Tested on the OpenRISC the build works and timezone/tst-tzset passes
which was failing before. I would expect this also would fix arc.

It can be used to speed up the libgcc unwinder, and the internal
_dl_find_dso_for_object function (which is used for caller
identification in dlopen and related functions, and in dladdr).
_dl_find_object is in the internal namespace due to bug 28503.
If libgcc switches to _dl_find_object, this namespace issue will
be fixed. It is located in libc for two reasons: it is necessary
to forward the call to the static libc after static dlopen, and
there is a link ordering issue with -static-libgcc and libgcc_eh.a
because libc.so is not a linker script that includes ld.so in the
glibc build tree (so that GCC's internal -lc after libgcc_eh.a does
not pick up ld.so).
It is necessary to do the i386 customization in the
sysdeps/x86/bits/dl_find_object.h header shared with x86-64 because
otherwise, multilib installations are broken.
The implementation uses software transactional memory, as suggested
by Torvald Riegel. Two copies of the supporting data structures are
used, also achieving full async-signal-safety.

already provided CURRENT_STACK_FRAME (used on nptl code) and
STACK_GROWS_UPWARD is replaced with _STACK_GROWS_UP.
In commit a92f4e6299 ("linux: Add time64
pselect support"), a Microblaze specific implementation of
__pselect32() was added to cover the case of kernels < 3.15 which lack
the pselect6 system call.
This new file sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/microblaze/pselect32.c takes
precedence over the default implementation
sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/pselect32.c.
However sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/pselect32.c provides an implementation
of __pselect32() which is needed when __ASSUME_TIME64_SYSCALLS is not
defined. On Microblaze, which is a 32-bit architecture,
__ASSUME_TIME64_SYSCALLS is only true for kernels >= 5.1.
Due to sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/microblaze/pselect32.c taking
precedence over sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/pselect32.c, it means that
when we are with a kernel >= 3.15 but < 5.1, we need a __pselect32()
implementation, but sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/microblaze/pselect32.c
doesn't provide it, and sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/pselect32.c which
would provide it is not compiled in.
This causes the following build failure on Microblaze with for example
Linux kernel headers 4.9:

When the clock_id is CLOCK_PROCESS_CPUTIME_ID or CLOCK_THREAD_CPUTIME_ID,
on the 5.10 kernel powerpc 32-bit, the 32-bit vDSO is executed successfully (
because the __kernel_clock_gettime in arch/powerpc/kernel/vdso32/gettimeofday.S
does not support these two IDs, the 32-bit time_t syscall will be used),
but tp32.tv_sec is equal to 0, causing the 64-bit time_t syscall to continue to be used,
resulting in two system calls.

Add the constant ARPHRD_MCTP, from Linux 5.15, to net/if_arp.h, along
with ARPHRD_CAN which was added to Linux in version 2.6.25 (commit
cd05acfe65ed2cf2db683fa9a6adb8d35635263b, "[CAN]: Allocate protocol
numbers for PF_CAN") but apparently missed for glibc at the time.
Tested for x86_64.
The RISC-V ABI [1] mandates that "the stack pointer shall be aligned to
a 128-bit boundary upon procedure entry". This as not the case in clone.
This fixes the misc/tst-misalign-clone-internal and
misc/tst-misalign-clone tests.
Fixes bug 28702.

The syscall function does not allocate the extra stack frame for scv like other
assembly syscalls using DO_CALL_SCV. So after commit d120fb9941 changed the
offset that is used to save LR, syscall ended up using an invalid offset,
causing regressions on powerpc64. So make sure the extra stack frame is
allocated in syscall.S as well to make it consistent with other uses of
DO_CALL_SCV and avoid similar issues in the future.
Tested on powerpc, powerpc64, and powerpc64le (with and without scv)

Due to PIE-by-default, PIC is now defined in more cases. libc.a
does not have _rtld_global_ro, and statically linking setcontext
fails. SHARED is the right condition to use, so that libc.a
references _dl_hwcap instead of _rtld_global_ro.
For static PIE support, the !SHARED case would still have to be made
PIC. This patch does not achieve that.

With the morecore hook removed, there is not easy way to provide huge
pages support on with glibc allocator without resorting to transparent
huge pages. And some users and programs do prefer to use the huge pages
directly instead of THP for multiple reasons: no splitting, re-merging
by the VM, no TLB shootdowns for running processes, fast allocation
from the reserve pool, no competition with the rest of the processes
unlike THP, no swapping all, etc.
This patch extends the 'glibc.malloc.hugetlb' tunable: the value
'2' means to use huge pages directly with the system default size,
while a positive value means and specific page size that is matched
against the supported ones by the system.
Currently only memory allocated on sysmalloc() is handled, the arenas
still uses the default system page size.
To test is a new rule is added tests-malloc-hugetlb2, which run the
addes tests with the required GLIBC_TUNABLE setting. On systems without
a reserved huge pages pool, is just stress the mmap(MAP_HUGETLB)
allocation failure. To improve test coverage it is required to create
a pool with some allocated pages.

Linux Transparent Huge Pages (THP) current supports three different
states: 'never', 'madvise', and 'always'. The 'never' is
self-explanatory and 'always' will enable THP for all anonymous
pages. However, 'madvise' is still the default for some system and
for such case THP will be only used if the memory range is explicity
advertise by the program through a madvise(MADV_HUGEPAGE) call.
To enable it a new tunable is provided, 'glibc.malloc.hugetlb',
where setting to a value diffent than 0 enables the madvise call.
This patch issues the madvise(MADV_HUGEPAGE) call after a successful
mmap() call at sysmalloc() with sizes larger than the default huge
page size. The madvise() call is disable is system does not support
THP or if it has the mode set to "never" and on Linux only support
one page size for THP, even if the architecture supports multiple
sizes.
To test is a new rule is added tests-malloc-hugetlb1, which run the
addes tests with the required GLIBC_TUNABLE setting.

The error handling is moved to sysdeps/ieee754 version with no SVID
support. The compatibility symbol versions still use the wrapper with
SVID error handling around the new code. There is no new symbol version
nor compatibility code on !LIBM_SVID_COMPAT targets (e.g. riscv).
Only ia64 is unchanged, since it still uses the arch specific
__libm_error_region on its implementation.
Checked on x86_64-linux-gnu, i686-linux-gnu, and aarch64-linux-gnu.
Remove the LD_PREFER_MAP_32BIT_EXEC environment variable support since
the first PT_LOAD segment is no longer executable due to defaulting to
-z separate-code.
This fixes [BZ #28656].

The relationship between the thread pointer and the rseq area
is made explicit. The constant offset can be used by JIT compilers
to optimize rseq access (e.g., for really fast sched_getcpu).
Extensibility is provided through __rseq_size and __rseq_flags.
(In the future, the kernel could request a different rseq size
via the auxiliary vector.)

The rseq area is placed directly into struct pthread. rseq
registration failure is not treated as an error, so it is possible
that threads run with inconsistent registration status.
<sys/rseq.h> is not yet installed as a public header.

Programs without dynamic dependencies and without a program
interpreter are now run via execve.
Previously, the dynamic linker either crashed while attempting to
read a non-existing dynamic segment (looking for DT_AUDIT/DT_DEPAUDIT
data), or the self-relocated in the static PIE executable crashed
because the outer dynamic linker had already applied RELRO protection.
<dl-execve.h> is needed because execve is not available in the
dynamic loader on Hurd.

The syscall pipe2 was added in linux 2.6.27 and glibc requires linux
3.2.0. The patch removes the arch-specific implementation for alpha,
ia64, mips, sh, and sparc which requires a different kernel ABI
than the usual one.
Checked on x86_64-linux-gnu and with a build for the affected ABIs.
Variadic function calls in syscalls.list does not work for all ABIs
(for instance where the argument are passed on the stack instead of
registers) and might have underlying issues depending of the variadic
type (for instance if a 64-bit argument is used).
Checked on x86_64-linux-gnu.
The LFS prlimit64 requires a arch-specific implementation in
syscalls.list. Instead add a generic one that handles the
required symbol alias for __RLIM_T_MATCHES_RLIM64_T.
HPPA is the only outlier which requires a different default
symbol.
Checked on x86_64-linux-gnu and with build for the affected ABIs.
Passing 64-bit arguments on syscalls.list is tricky: it requires
to reimplement the expected kernel abi in each architecture. This
is way to better to represent in C code where we already have
macros for this (SYSCALL_LL64).
Checked on x86_64-linux-gnu.
Now that Hurd implementis both close_range and closefrom (f2c996597d),
we can make close_range() a base ABI, and make the default closefrom()
implementation on top of close_range().
The generic closefrom() implementation based on __getdtablesize() is
moved to generic close_range(). On Linux it will be overriden by
the auto-generation syscall while on Hurd it will be a system specific
implementation.
The closefrom() now calls close_range() and __closefrom_fallback().
Since on Hurd close_range() does not fail, __closefrom_fallback() is an
empty static inline function set by__ASSUME_CLOSE_RANGE.
The __ASSUME_CLOSE_RANGE also allows optimize Linux
__closefrom_fallback() implementation when --enable-kernel=5.9 or
higher is used.
Finally the Linux specific tst-close_range.c is moved to io and
enabled as default. The Linuxism and CLOSE_RANGE_UNSHARE are
guarded so it can be built for Hurd (I have not actually test it).
Checked on x86_64-linux-gnu, i686-linux-gnu, and with a i686-gnu
build.
It requires less boilerplate code for newer ports. The _Static_assert
checks from internal setjmp are moved to its own internal test since
setjmp.h is included early by multiple headers (to generate
rtld-sizes.sym).
The riscv jmp_buf-macros.h check is also redundant, it is already
done by riscv configure.ac.
Checked with a build for the affected architectures.
This patch updates the kernel version in the test tst-mman-consts.py
to 5.15. (There are no new MAP_* constants covered by this test in
5.15 that need any other header changes.)
Tested with build-many-glibcs.py.
Linux 5.15 has one new syscall, process_mrelease (and also enables the
clone3 syscall for RV32). It also has a macro __NR_SYSCALL_MASK for
Arm, which is not a syscall but matches the pattern used for syscall
macro names.
Add __NR_SYSCALL_MASK to the names filtered out in the code dealing
with syscall lists, update syscall-names.list for the new syscall and
regenerate the arch-syscall.h headers with build-many-glibcs.py
update-syscalls.
Tested with build-many-glibcs.py.
Compiling mmap_internal fails to compile when we use -1 for MMAP2_PAGE_UNIT
on 32 bit architectures. The error is as follows:

Fix by adding including stdint.h.
A non-local STV_DEFAULT defined symbol is by default preemptible in a
shared object. j/jal cannot target a preemptible symbol. On other
architectures, such a jump instruction either causes PLT [BZ #18822], or
if short-ranged, sometimes rejected by the linker (but not by GNU ld's
riscv port [ld PR/28509]).
Use HIDDEN_JUMPTARGET to target a non-preemptible symbol instead.
With this patch, ld.so and libc.so can be linked with LLD if source
files are compiled/assembled with -mno-relax/-Wa,-mno-relax.
