This patch refactor sigcontextinfo.h header to use SA_SIGINFO as default
for both gmon and debug implementations. This allows simplify
profil-counter.h on Linux to use a single implementation and remove the
requirements for newer ports to redefine __sigaction/sigaction to use
SA_SIGINFO.
The GET_PC macro is also replaced with a function sigcontext_get_pc that
returns an uintptr_t instead of a void pointer. It allows easier convertion
to integer on ILP32 architecture, such as x32, without the need to suppress
compiler warnings.
The patch also requires some refactor of register-dump.h file for some
architectures (to reflect it is now called from a sa_sigaction instead of
sa_handler signal context).
- Alpha, i386, and s390 are straighfoward to take in consideration the
new argument type.
- ia64 takes in consideration the kernel pass a struct sigcontextt
as third argument for sa_sigaction.
- sparc take in consideration the kernel pass a pt_regs struct
as third argument for sa_sigaction.
- m68k dummy function is removed and the FP state is dumped on
register_dump itself.
- For SH the register-dump.h file is consolidate on a common implementation
and the floating-point state is checked based on ownedfp field.
The register_dump does not change its output format in any affected
architecture.
I checked on x86_64-linux-gnu, i686-linux-gnu, aarch64-linux-gnu,
arm-linux-gnueabihf, sparcv9-linux-gnu, sparc64-linux-gnu, powerpc-linux-gnu,
powerpc64-linux-gnu, and powerpc64le-linux-gnu.
I also checked the libSegFault.so through catchsegv on alpha-linux-gnu,
m68k-linux-gnu and sh4-linux-gnu to confirm the output has not changed.

The kernel changes for a 64-bit time_t on 32-bit architectures
resulted in <asm/socket.h> indirectly including <linux/posix_types.h>.
The latter is not namespace-clean for the POSIX version of
<sys/socket.h>.
This issue has persisted across several Linux releases, so this commit
creates our own copy of the SO_* definitions for !__USE_MISC mode.
The new test socket/tst-socket-consts ensures that the copy is
consistent with the kernel definitions (which vary across
architectures). The test is tricky to get right because CPPFLAGS
includes include/libc-symbols.h, which in turn defines _GNU_SOURCE
unconditionally.
Tested with build-many-glibcs.py. I verified that a discrepancy in
the definitions actually results in a failure of the
socket/tst-socket-consts test.
No 32-bit system call wrapper is added because the interface
is problematic because it cannot deal with 64-bit inode numbers
and 64-bit directory hashes.
A future commit will deprecate the undocumented getdirentries
and getdirentries64 functions.

The tgkill function is sometimes used in crash handlers.
<bits/signal_ext.h> follows the same approach as <bits/unistd_ext.h>
(which was added for the gettid system call wrapper).

This commit adds gettid to <unistd.h> on Linux, and not to the
kernel-independent GNU API.
gettid is now supportable on Linux because too many things assume a
1:1 mapping between libpthread threads and kernel threads.

Continuing the process of building up and using Python infrastructure
for extracting and using values in headers, this patch adds a test
that MAP_* constants from sys/mman.h agree with those in the Linux
kernel headers. (Other sys/mman.h constants could be added to the
test separately.)
This set of constants has grown over time, so the generic code is
enhanced to allow saying extra constants are OK on either side of the
comparison (where the caller sets those parameters based on the Linux
kernel headers version, compared with the version the headers were
last updated from). Although the test is a custom Python file, my
intention is to move in future to a single Python script for such
tests and text files it takes as inputs, once there are enough
examples to provide a guide to the common cases in such tests (I'd
like to end up with most or all such sets of constants copied from
kernel headers having such tests, and likewise for structure layouts
from the kernel).
The Makefile code is essentially the same as for tst-signal-numbers,
but I didn't try to find an object file to depend on to represent the
dependency on the headers used by the test (the conform/ tests don't
try to represent such header dependencies at all, for example).
Tested with build-many-glibcs.py, and also for x86_64 with older
kernel headers.

Linux kernel have remove stat64 family from default syscall set, new
implementations with statx is needed when __ARCH_WANT_STAT64 is not
define. This patch add conditionals for relevant functions, using statx
system call to get information and then copy to the return buf, ref to

This patch converts the tst-signal-numbers test from shell + awk to
Python.
As with gen-as-const, the point is not so much that shell and awk are
problematic for this code, as that it's useful to build up general
infrastructure in Python for use of a range of code involving
extracting values from C headers. This patch moves some code from
gen-as-const.py to a new glibcextract.py, which also gains functions
relating to listing macros, and comparing the values of a set of
macros from compiling two different pieces of code.
It's not just signal numbers that should have such tests; pretty much
any case where glibc copies constants from Linux kernel headers should
have such tests that the values and sets of constants agree except
where differences are known to be OK. Much the same also applies to
structure layouts (although testing those without hardcoding lists of
fields to test will be more complicated).
Given this patch, another test for a set of macros would essentially
be just a call to glibcextract.compare_macro_consts (plus boilerplate
code - and we could move to having separate text files defining such
tests, like the .sym inputs to gen-as-const, so that only a single
Python script is needed for most such tests). Some such tests would
of course need new features, e.g. where the set of macros changes in
new kernel versions (so you need to allow new macro names on the
kernel side if the kernel headers are newer than the version known to
glibc, and extra macros on the glibc side if the kernel headers are
older). tst-syscall-list.sh could become a Python script that uses
common code to generate lists of macros but does other things with its
own custom logic.
There are a few differences from the existing shell + awk test.
Because the new test evaluates constants using the compiler, no
special handling is needed any more for one signal name being defined
to another. Because asm/signal.h now needs to pass through the
compiler, not just the preprocessor, stddef.h is included as well
(given the asm/signal.h issue that it requires an externally provided
definition of size_t). The previous code defined __ASSEMBLER__ with
asm/signal.h; this is removed (__ASSEMBLY__, a different macro,
eliminates the requirement for stddef.h on some but not all
architectures).
Tested for x86_64, and with build-many-glibcs.py.

AT_SYSINFO_EHDR is processed if NEED_DL_SYSINFO_DSO is defined, but it
looks like it always is. The call to setup_vdso is also unconditional,
so all that was left to do was setup the function pointers and use
them. This patch just deletes some #ifdef to enable that.

After my patch to move SHMLBA to its own header, the bits/shm.h
headers for architectures using the Linux kernel still vary in a few
ways: the use of __syscall_ulong_t; whether padding for 32-bit systems
is present before or after time fields, or missing altogether (mips,
x32); whether shm_segsz is before or after the time fields; whether,
if after time fields, there is extra padding before shm_segsz.
This patch arranges for a single header to be used. __syscall_ulong_t
is safe to use everywhere, while bits/shm-pad.h is added with new
macros __SHM_PAD_AFTER_TIME, __SHM_PAD_BEFORE_TIME,
__SHM_SEGSZ_AFTER_TIME and __SHM_PAD_BETWEEN_TIME_AND_SEGSZ to
describe the differences.
Tested for x86_64 and x86, and with build-many-glibcs.py.

One difference between bits/shm.h headers for architectures using the
Linux kernel is the definition of SHMLBA. This was noted in
<https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2018-09/msg00175.html> as a
reason why even a new architecture (C-SKY) might need its own
bits/shm.h; thus, splitting it out of bits/shm.h can allow less
duplication of headers for new architectures.
This patch moves that definition to its own header, bits/shmlba.h, to
allow more sharing of headers between architectures. That move allows
the arm, ia64 and sh variants of bits/shm.h to be removed, as they had
no other significant differences from the generic bits/shm.h; powerpc
and x86 have their own bits/shm.h but do not need to get their own
bits/shmlba.h because they use the same SHMLBA as the generic header.
Other architectures with their own bits/shm.h get their own
bits/shmlba.h without being able to remove their own bits/shm.h until
the generic one has been adapted to be able to handle more
architectures (where, in addition to the differences seen for
bits/msq.h and bits/sem.h, the position of shm_segsz in struct
shmid_ds also depends on the architecture).

The bits/sem.h headers for architectures using the Linux kernel vary
in a few ways:
* x32 uses __syscall_ulong_t instead of unsigned long int.
* The x86 header uses padding after time fields unconditionally
(including for both x86_64 ABIs), not just for 32-bit time (unlike
in msqid_ds where there is only padding for 32-bit time). Because
this padding is present for x32, and is __syscall_ulong_t there, it
does have to be __syscall_ulong_t, not unsigned long int.
* The MIPS header never uses padding around time fields, even when
32-bit (unlike in msqid_ds where it has endian-dependent padding for
32-bit time).
* Some older 32-bit big-endian architectures have padding before
rather than after time fields, although the preferred generic
approach is padding after the time fields independent of endianness.

Continuing bits/mman.h unification between architectures using the
Linux kernel, this patch arranges for the common set of MAP_* flags to
be used by two more architectures. That common set is moved to
bits/mman-map-flags-generic.h, which is included by bits/mman.h, to
allow architectures to use that common set even if they also have
architecture-specific additions to it. As well as the generic
bits/mman.h, the versions for x86 and ia64 are also then made to
include bits/mman-map-flags-generic.h, so while they still need
architecture-specific bits/mman.h (for MAP_32BIT and MAP_GROWSUP
respectively), they do not need to duplicate the generic flag
definitions in there.

This patch completes the process of unifying sys/procfs.h headers for
architectures using the Linux kernel by making alpha use the generic
version.
That was previously deferred because alpha has different definitions
of prgregset_t and prfpregset_t from other architectures, so changing
to the common definitions would change C++ name mangling. To avoid
such a change, a header bits/procfs-prregset.h is added, and alpha
gets its own version of that header.

This patch continues the process of unifying sys/procfs.h headers for
architectures using the Linux kernel.
A bits/procfs-id.h header is added to define __pr_uid_t and __pr_gid_t
for the types of pr_uid and pr_gid; the default version of this header
uses unsigned int. On some architectures, sys/procfs.h has copies of
32-bit structures for 64-bit builds; those move into a
bits/procfs-extra.h header (they can't go in bits/procfs.h because
they have to come *after* other declarations from sys/procfs.h).
Given appropriate versions of these headers, six more architectures
can then move to providing only bits/procfs*.h without duplicating the
rest of the contents of sys/procfs.h. Only alpha needs a further
bits/ header to be added before it can stop having its own
sys/procfs.h.

As per recent discussions, this patch unifies some of the sys/procfs.h
headers for architectures using the Linux kernel, producing a generic
version that can hopefully be used by all new architectures as well.
The new generic version is based on the AArch64 one. The register
definitions, the only part that generally needs to vary by
architecture, go in a new bits/procfs.h header (which each
architecture using the generic version needs to provide); that header
also has any #includes that were in the architecture-specific
sys/procfs.h, where those includes went beyond the generic set.
The generic version is used for eight architectures where the generic
definitions were the same as the architecture-specific ones. (Some of
those architectures had #if 0 fields, now removed; some defined types
or fields using different type names which were typedefs for the same
underlying types.)
Six of the remaining architectures with their own sys/procfs.h use
unsigned short for pr_uid / pr_gid in some cases; moving those to the
generic header will require a bits/ header to define a typedef for the
type of those fields. In the case of alpha, the generic sys/procfs.h
uses elf_gregset_t (= unsigned long int[33]) to define prgregset_t and
elf_fpregset_t (= double[32]) to define prfpregset_t, but the alpha
version uses gregset_t (= long int[33]) and fpregset_t (= long
int[32]), so avoiding unnecessarily changing the underlying types (and
thus C++ name mangling) again means a bits/ header will need to be
able to define a different choice for those typedefs.
bits/procfs.h is included outside the __BEGIN_DECLS / __END_DECLS pair
(whereas the definitions it contains were previously inside that pair
in various sys/procfs.h headers), because it sometimes includes other
headers and putting those other #includes inside that pair seems
risky. Because none of the declarations in bits/procfs.h are of
functions or variables or involve function types, I don't think it
makes any difference whether they are inside or outside an extern "C"
context.
Tested with build-many-glibcs.py (again, that does not provide much
validation for the correctness of this patch).

Commit 298d0e3129 ("Consolidate Linux
getdents{64} implementation") broke the implementation because it does
not take into account struct offset differences.
The new implementation is close to the old one, before the
consolidation, but has been cleaned up slightly.
This patch fixes the OFD ("file private") locks for architectures that
support non-LFS flock definition (__USE_FILE_OFFSET64 not defined). The
issue in this case is both F_OFD_{GETLK,SETLK,SETLKW} and
F_{SET,GET}L{W}K64 expects a flock64 argument and when using old
F_OFD_* flags with a non LFS flock argument the kernel might interpret
the underlying data wrongly. Kernel idea originally was to avoid using
such flags in non-LFS syscall, but since GLIBC uses fcntl with LFS
semantic as default it is possible to provide the functionality and
avoid the bogus struct kernel passing by adjusting the struct manually
for the required flags.
The idea follows other LFS interfaces that provide two symbols:
1. A new LFS fcntl64 is added on default ABI with the usual macros to
select it for FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64.
2. The Linux non-LFS fcntl use a stack allocated struct flock64 for
F_OFD_{GETLK,SETLK,SETLKW} copy the results on the user provided
struct.
3. Keep a compat symbol with old broken semantic for architectures
that do not define __OFF_T_MATCHES_OFF64_T.
So for architectures which defines __USE_FILE_OFFSET64, fcntl64 will
aliased to fcntl and no adjustment would be required. So to actually
use F_OFD_* with LFS support the source must be built with LFS support
(_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64).
Also F_OFD_SETLKW command is handled a cancellation point, as for
F_SETLKW{64}.

Neither the <dlfcn.h> entry points, nor lazy symbol resolution, nor
initial shared library load-up, are cancellation points, so ld.so
should exclusively use I/O primitives that are not cancellable. We
currently achieve this by having the cancellation hooks compile as
no-ops when IS_IN(rtld); this patch changes to using exclusively
_nocancel primitives in the source code instead, which makes the
intent clearer and significantly reduces the amount of code compiled
under IS_IN(rtld) as well as IS_IN(libc) -- in particular,
elf/Makefile no longer thinks we require a copy of unwind.c in
rtld-libc.a. (The older mechanism is preserved as a backstop.)
The bulk of the change is splitting up the files that define the
_nocancel I/O functions, so they don't also define the variants that
*are* cancellation points; after which, the existing logic for picking
out the bits of libc that need to be recompiled as part of ld.so Just
Works. I did this for all of the _nocancel functions, not just the
ones used by ld.so, for consistency.
fcntl was a little tricky because it's only a cancellation point for
certain opcodes (F_SETLKW(64), which can block), and the existing
__fcntl_nocancel wasn't applying the FCNTL_ADJUST_CMD hook, which
strikes me as asking for trouble, especially as the only nontrivial
definition of FCNTL_ADJUST_CMD (for powerpc64) changes F_*LK* opcodes.
To fix this, fcntl_common moves to fcntl_nocancel.c along with
__fcntl_nocancel, and changes its name to the extern (but hidden)
symbol __fcntl_nocancel_adjusted, so that regular fcntl can continue
calling it. __fcntl_nocancel now applies FCNTL_ADJUST_CMD; so that
both both fcntl.c and fcntl_nocancel.c can see it, the only nontrivial
definition moves from sysdeps/u/s/l/powerpc/powerpc64/fcntl.c to
.../powerpc64/sysdep.h and becomes entirely a macro, instead of a macro
that calls an inline function.
The nptl version of libpthread also changes a little, because its
"compat-routines" formerly included files that defined all the
_nocancel functions it uses; instead of continuing to duplicate them,
I exported the relevant ones from libc.so as GLIBC_PRIVATE. Since the
Linux fcntl.c calls a function defined by fcntl_nocancel.c, it can no
longer be used from libpthread.so; instead, introduce a custom
forwarder, pt-fcntl.c, and export __libc_fcntl from libc.so as
GLIBC_PRIVATE. The nios2-linux ABI doesn't include a copy of vfork()
in libpthread, and it was handling that by manipulating
libpthread-routines in .../linux/nios2/Makefile; it is cleaner to do
what other such ports do, and have a pt-vfork.S that defines no symbols.
Right now, it appears that Hurd does not implement _nocancel I/O, so
sysdeps/generic/not-cancel.h will forward everything back to the
regular functions. This changed the names of some of the functions
that sysdeps/mach/hurd/dl-sysdep.c needs to interpose.

As indicated by BZ#23178, concurrent access on some files read by nscd
may result non expected data send through service requisition. This is
due 'sendfile' Linux implementation where for sockets with zero-copy
support, callers must ensure the transferred portions of the the file
reffered by input file descriptor remain unmodified until the reader
on the other end of socket has consumed the transferred data.
I could not find any explicit documentation stating this behaviour on
Linux kernel documentation. However man-pages sendfile entry [1] states
in NOTES the aforementioned remark. It was initially pushed on man-pages
with an explicit testcase [2] that shows changing the file used in
'sendfile' call prior the socket input data consumption results in
previous data being lost.
From commit message it stated on tested Linux version (3.15) only TCP
socket showed this issues, however on recent kernels (4.4) I noticed the
same behaviour for local sockets as well.
Since sendfile on HURD is a read/write operation and the underlying
issue on Linux, the straightforward fix is just remove sendfile use
altogether. I am really skeptical it is hitting some hotstop (there
are indication over internet that sendfile is helpfull only for large
files, more than 10kb) here to justify that extra code complexity or
to pursuit other possible fix (through memory or file locks for
instance, which I am not sure it is doable).

Add a test to check that the getrlimit, setrlimit and prlimit functions
and their 64-bit equivalent behave correctly with RLIM_INFINITY and
RLIM64_INFINITY. For that it assumes that the prlimit64 function calls
the syscall directly without translating the value and that the kernel
uses the -1 value to represent infinity.
It first finds a resource with the hard limit set to infinity so the
soft limit can be manipulated easily and check for the consistency
between the value set or get by the prlimit64 and the other functions.
It is Linux specific add it uses the prlimit and prlimit64 functions.

This adds system call wrappers for pkey_alloc, pkey_free, pkey_mprotect,
and x86-64 implementations of pkey_get and pkey_set, which abstract over
the PKRU CPU register and hide the actual number of memory protection
keys supported by the CPU. pkey_mprotect with a -1 key is implemented
using mprotect, so it will work even if the kernel does not support the
pkey_mprotect system call.
The system call wrapers use unsigned int instead of unsigned long for
parameters, so that no special treatment for x32 is needed. The flags
argument is currently unused, and the access rights bit mask is limited
to two bits by the current PKRU register layout anyway.

The system call is somewhat obscure because it is closely related
to file descriptor sealing. However, it is also the recommended
way to create alias mappings, which is why it has more general use.
No emulation is provided. Except for the name of the
/proc/self/fd links, it would be possible to implement an
approximation using O_TMPFILE and tmpfs, but this does not appear
to be worth the added complexity.

[1]: 15e9a4f introduced a semantic that, under certain failure
conditions, ttyname sets errno=ENODEV, where previously it didn't
set errno; it's not quite fair to hold "before 15e9a4f" ttyname to
those new semantics. This testcase actually fails, but would have
passed if we tested for the old the semantics.
Each of the failing tests before 15e9a4f are all essentially the same bug: that
it returns a PTY slave with the correct minor device number, but from the wrong
devpts filesystem instance.
15e9a4f sought to fix this, but missed several of the cases that can cause this
to happen, and also broke the case where both the erroneous PTY and the correct
PTY exist.

After commit 37f802f864 (Remove
__need_IOV_MAX and __need_FOPEN_MAX), UIO_MAXIOV is no longer supplied
(indirectly) through <bits/stdio_lim.h>, so sysdeps/posix/sysconf.c no
longer sees the definition.
This patch syncs posix/glob.c implementation with gnulib version
b5ec983 (glob: simplify symlink detection). The only difference
to gnulib code is
* DT_UNKNOWN, DT_DIR, and DT_LNK definition in the case there
were not already defined. Gnulib code which uses
HAVE_STRUCT_DIRENT_D_TYPE will redefine them wrongly because
GLIBC does not define HAVE_STRUCT_DIRENT_D_TYPE. Instead
the patch check for each definition instead.
Also, the patch requires additional globfree and globfree64 files
for compatibility version on some architectures. Also the code
simplification leads to not macro simplification (not need for
NO_GLOB_PATTERN_P anymore).
Checked on x86_64-linux-gnu and on a build using build-many-glibcs.py
for all major architectures.

This commit changes the way the list of SYS_* system call macros is
created on Linux. glibc now contains a list of all known system
calls, and the generated <bits/syscall.h> file defines the SYS_ macro
only if the correspnding __NR_ macro is defined by the kernel headers.
As a result, glibc does not have to be rebuilt to pick up system calls
if the glibc sources already know about them. This means that glibc
can be built with older kernel headers, and if the installed kernel
headers are upgraded afterwards, additional SYS_ macros become
available as long as glibc has a record for those system calls.
On aarch64, alpha, arm, hppa, mips, nios2, powerpc, sh, sparc, tile,
and x86_64 the clone syscall jumps to _exit after the child execution
and the function ends the process execution by calling exit_group.
This behavior have a small issue where threads created with
CLONE_THREAD using clone syscall directly will eventually exit the
whole group altogether instead of just the thread created. Also,
s390, microblaze, ia64, i386, and m68k differs by calling exit
syscall directly.
This patch changes all architectures to call the exit syscall
directly, as for s390, microblaze, ia64, i386, and m68k. This do not
have change glibc internal behavior in any sort, since the only
usage of clone implementation in posix_spawn calls _exit directly
in the created child (fork uses a direct call to clone).
Checked on x86_64-linux-gnu, i686-linux-gnu, aarch64-linux-gnu,
powerpc-linux-gnu, powerpc64le-linux-gnu, sparc64-linux-gnu,
and sparcv9-linux-gnu.

Fix
Many of the things defined by bits/signum.h are invariant across all
supported operating systems. This patch factors out all of them to a
new header bits/signum-generic.h, which each bits/signum.h will include
and then override whichever things need adjustment. Normally that will
mean, at most, adding or changing a few signal numbers.
A user-visible side effect is that the obsolete signal constant SIGUNUSED
(which is an alias for SIGSYS on all platforms that define it) is no
longer exposed by any version of bits/signum.h.
A side effect only relevant to glibc hackers is that _NSIG is now defined
in terms of __SIGRTMAX, instead of the other way around. This is because
__SIGRTMAX varies from platform to platform, but _NSIG==__SIGRTMAX+1 is
true universally. If your platform doesn't support realtime signals,
leave __SIGRTMAX equal to __SIGRTMIN.
I also added a Linux-specific test to make sure that our signal constants
match the ones in <asm/signal.h>, since we can't use that header (it's
not even vaguely namespace-clean).

This patch consolidates Linux sync_file_range at default

The types affected are __sig_atomic_t, sig_atomic_t, __sigset_t,
sigset_t, sigval_t, sigevent_t, and siginfo_t. __sig_atomic_t is a
scalar, so it's now directly available from bits/types.h. The others
get bits/types/ headers.
Side effects include: There have been small changes to which
non-signal headers expose which subset of the signal-related types.
A couple of architectures' nested siginfo_t fields had to be renamed
to prevent undesired macro expansion. Internal code that wants to
manipulate signal masks must now include <sigsetops.h> (which is not
installed) and should be aware that __sigaddset, __sigandset,
__sigdelset, __sigemptyset, and __sigorset no longer return a value
(unlike the public API). Relatedly, the public signal.h no longer
declares any of those functions. The obsolete sigmask() macro no
longer has a system-specific definition -- in the cases where it
matters, it didn't work anyway.
New Linux architectures should create bits/siginfo-arch.h and/or
bits/siginfo-consts-arch.h to customize their siginfo_t, rather than
duplicating everything in bits/siginfo.h (which no longer exists).
Add new __SI_* macros if necessary. Ports to other operating systems
are strongly encouraged to generalize this scheme further.

This patch adds a new build module called 'testsuite'.
IS_IN (testsuite) implies _ISOMAC, as do IS_IN_build and __cplusplus
(which means several ad-hoc tests for __cplusplus can go away).
libc-symbols.h now suppresses almost all of *itself* when _ISOMAC is
defined; in particular, _ISOMAC mode does not get config.h
automatically anymore.
There are still quite a few tests that need to see internal gunk of
one variety or another. For them, we now have 'tests-internal' and
'test-internal-extras'; files in this category will still be compiled
with MODULE_NAME=nonlib, and everything proceeds as it always has.
The bulk of this patch is moving tests from 'tests' to
'tests-internal'. There is also 'tests-static-internal', which has
the same effect on files in 'tests-static', and 'modules-names-tests',
which has the *inverse* effect on files in 'modules-names' (it's
inverted because most of the things in modules-names are *not* tests).
For both of these, the file must appear in *both* the new variable and
the old one.
There is also now a special case for when libc-symbols.h is included
without MODULE_NAME being defined at all. (This happens during the
creation of libc-modules.h, and also when preprocessing Versions
files.) When this happens, IS_IN is set to be always false and
_ISOMAC is *not* defined, which was the status quo, but now it's
explicit.
The remaining changes to C source files in this patch seemed likely to
cause problems in the absence of the main change. They should be
relatively self-explanatory. In a few cases I duplicated a definition
from an internal header rather than move the test to tests-internal;
this was a judgement call each time and I'm happy to change those
however reviewers feel is more appropriate.
* Makerules: New subdir configuration variables 'tests-internal'
and 'test-internal-extras'. Test files in these categories will
still be compiled with MODULE_NAME=nonlib. Test files in the

This patch consolidates the epoll_wait Linux syscall generation on
sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/epoll_wait.c. The implementation tries to
use __NR_epoll_wait if defined, otherwise calls epoll_pwait.
Checked on i686-linux-gnu, x86_64-linux-gnu, x86_64-linux-gnux32,
arch64-linux-gnu, arm-linux-gnueabihf, and powerpc64le-linux-gnu.

This patch fixes multiple issues of test-errno.c (9a56f87183):
- Rename Linux test-errno.c to test-errno-linux.c to avoid build
the same source for both tests.
- Add a mlock check for 32 bits build running on 64 bits kernels.
Althuough man pages states that mlock fails with EINVAL if final
address overflows, kernels does not return it for aforementioned
condition (it returns ENOMEM instead). Although it seems to be
a kernel issue for compat syscall handling, I think it is worth
to still check syscall return and document the behavior.
- Initialize option lenght for setsockopt check.
- Change open test from EINVAL to EISDIR.
Checked on x86_64-linux-gnu and i686-linux-gnu (running on 64 bits
kernel).

This patch adds tests for POSIX and Linux specific syscalls
that implemented with syscall templates machinery. The reason
of tests is to receive the expected error code and test if
it's handled properly by glibc.

These are a grab bag of changes where the testsuite was using internal
symbols of some variety, but this was straightforward to fix, and the
fixed code should work with or without the change to compile the
testsuite under _ISOMAC.
Four of these are just more #include adjustments, but I want to highlight
sysdeps/powerpc/fpu/tst-setcontext-fpscr.c, which appears to have been
written before the advent of sys/auxv.h. I think a big chunk of this file
could be replaced by a simple call to getauxval, but I'll let someone who
actually has a powerpc machine to test on do that.
dlfcn/tst-dladdr.c was including ldsodefs.h just so it could use
DL_LOOKUP_ADDRESS to print an additional diagnostic; as requested by Carlos,
I have removed this.
math/test-misc.c was using #ifndef NO_LONG_DOUBLE, which is an internal
configuration macro, to decide whether to do certain tests involving
'long double'. I changed the test to #if LDBL_MANT_DIG > DBL_MANT_DIG
instead, which uses only public float.h macros and is equivalent on
all supported platforms. (Note that NO_LONG_DOUBLE doesn't mean 'the
compiler doesn't support long double', it means 'long double is the
same as double'.)
tst-writev.c has a configuration macro 'ARTIFICIAL_LIMIT' that the
Makefiles are expected to define, and sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/Makefile
was using the internal __getpagesize in the definition; changed to
sysconf(_SC_PAGESIZE) which is the POSIX equivalent.
ia64-linux doesn't supply 'clone', only '__clone2', which is not
defined in the public headers(!) All the other clone tests have local
extern declarations of __clone2, but tst-clone.c doesn't; it was
getting away with this because include/sched.h does declare __clone2.

This patch consolidates all Linux lseek/lseek64/llseek implementation
in on on sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/lseek{64}.c. It also removes the llseek
file and instead consolidate the LFS lseek implementation on lseek64.c
as for other LFS symbols implementations.
The general idea is:
- lseek: ABIs that not define __OFF_T_MATCHES_OFF64_T will preferable
use __NR__llseek if kernel supports it, otherwise they will use __NR_lseek.
ABIs that defines __OFF_T_MATCHES_OFF64_T won't produce any symbol.
- lseek64: ABIs with __OFF_T_MATCHES_OFF64_T will preferable use __NR_lseek
(since it will use 64-bit arguments without low/high splitting) and
__NR__llseek if __NR_lseek is not defined (for some ILP32 ports).
- llseek: files will be removed and symbols will be aliased ot lseek64.
ABI without __OFF_T_MATCHES_OFF64_T and without __NR_llseek (basically MIPS64n32
so far) are covered by building lseek with off_t as expected and lseek64
using __NR_lseek (as expected for off64_t being passed using 64-bit registers).
For this consolidation I mantained the x32 assembly specific implementation
because to correctly fix this it would required both the x32 fix for
{INLINE,INTERNAL}_SYSCALL [1] and a wrapper to correctly subscribe it to
return 64 bits instead of default 32 bits (as for times). It could a future
cleanup.
It is based on my previous {INTERNAL,INLINE}_SYSCALL_CALL macro [2],
although it is mainly for simplification.
Tested on x86_64, i686, aarch64, armhf, and powerpc64le.

The fallocate syscall might fail on Linux due missing support from
underlying filesystem (for instance some NFS versions). This patch
adds this check for fallocate tests. It also moves tst-fallocate{64}
to 'io' folder (since it is on fallocate{64} is built).
Checked on x86_64.

This patch consolidates all the sync_file_range implementation for Linux
in only one (sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/sync_file_range.c). It also removes
the syscall from the auto-generation using assembly macros (except for
x86_64 due x32 [1]).
For current minimum supported kernel (2.6.32 for x86_64 and 3.2 for all
other architectures) either sync_file_range or sync_file_range2 is supported
and it is expected that any future Linux ABI will provide either of one
syscall. So the code path that returns ENOSYS in the case of missing
syscall is removed.

Macros which are also defined in <linux/quota.h> are removed, and
<linux/quota.h> is included instead.
This commit cleans up the definition of fs_to_dq_blocks and struct
dqblock and struct dqinfo, too.
Presently sys/sysmacros.h is entirely defined in sysdeps. This would
mean that the deprecation logic coming up in the next patch would have
to be written twice (in generic/ and unix/sysv/linux/). To avoid that,
hoist all but the unavoidably system-dependent logic to misc/, leaving a
bits/ header behind. This also promotes the Linux-specific encoding of
dev_t, which accommodates 32-bit major and minor numbers in a 64-bit dev_t,
to generic, as glibc's dev_t is always 64 bits wide.
The former Linux implementation used inline functions to avoid evaluating
arguments more than once. After this change, all platforms use inline
functions, which means that three new symbols are added to the generic ABI.
(These symbols are in the user namespace, which is how they have always
been on Linux. They begin with "gnu_dev_", so collisions with user code
are pretty unlikely.)
New ports henceforth need only provide a bits/sysmacros.h defining
internal macros __SYSMACROS_{DECLARE,DEFINE}_{MAJOR,MINOR,MAKEDEV}.
This is only necessary if the kernel encoding is incompatible with
the now-generic encoding (for instance, it would be necessary for
FreeBSD).
While I was at it, I added a basic round-trip test for these functions.

After some discussion in libc-alpha about this POSIX compliance fix, I see
that GLIBC should indeed revert back to previous definition of msghdr and
cmsghdr and implementation of sendmsg, recvmsg, sendmmsg, recvmmsg due some
reasons:
* The possible issue where the syscalls wrapper add the compatibility
layer is quite limited in scope and range. And kernel current
also add some limits to the values on the internal msghdr and
cmsghdr fields:
- msghdr::msg_iovlen larger than UIO_MAXIOV (1024) returns
EMSGSIZE.
- msghdr::msg_controllen larger than INT_MAX returns ENOBUFS.
* There is a small performance hit for recvmsg/sendmsg/recmmsg which
is neglectable, but it is a big hit for sendmmsg since now instead
of calling the syscall for the packed structure, GLIBC is calling
multiple sendmsg. This defeat the very existence of the syscall.
* It currently breaks libsanitizer build on GCC [1] (I fixed on compiler-rt).
However the fix is incomplete because it does add any runtime check
since libsanitizer currently does not have any facility to intercept
symbols with multiple version [2].
This, along with incorret dlsym/dlvsym return for versioned symbol due
another bug [3], makes hard to interpose versioned symbols.
Also, current approach of fixing GCC PR#71445 leads to half-baked
solutions without versioned symbol interposing.
This patch basically reverts commits 2f0dc39029, 222c2d7f43,
af7f7c7ec8. I decided to not revert abf29edd4a (Adjust
kernel-features.h defaults for recvmsg and sendmsg) mainly because it
does not really address the POSIX compliance original issue and also
adds some cleanups.
Tested on x86, i386, s390, s390x, aarch64, and powerpc64le.

POSIX specifies that both msghdr::msg_iovlen and msghdr::msg_controllen
to be of size int and socklen_t respectively, however Linux implements
it as a size_t. So for 64-bits architecture where sizeof of size_t is
larger than socklen_t, both sendmmsg and recvmmsg need to adjust the
mmsghdr::msg_hdr internal fields before issuing the syscall itself.
This patch fixes it by operating on the padding if it the case.
For recvmmsg, the most straightfoward case, only zero padding the fields
is suffice. However, for sendmmsg, where adjusting the buffer is out
of the contract (since it may point to a read-only data), the function
is rewritten to use sendmsg instead (which from previous patch
allocates a temporary msghdr to operate on).
Also for 64-bit ports that requires it, a new recvmmsg and sendmmsg
compat version is created (which uses size_t for both cmsghdr::cmsg_len
and internal

As discussed in libc-alpha [1] current clone with CLONE_VM (without
CLONE_THREAD set) will reset the pthread pid/tid fields to -1. The
issue is since memory is shared between the parent and child it will
clobber parent's cached pid/tid leading to internal inconsistencies
if the value is not restored.
And even it is restored it may lead to racy conditions when between
set/restore a thread might invoke pthread function that validate the
pthread with INVALID_TD_P/INVALID_NOT_TERMINATED_TD_P and thus get
wrong results.
As stated in BZ19957, previously reports of this behaviour was close
with EWONTFIX due the fact usage of clone outside glibc is tricky
since glibc requires consistent internal pthread, while using clone
directly may not provide it. However since now posix_spawn uses
clone (CLONE_VM) to fixes various issues related to previous vfork
usage this issue requires fixing.
The vfork implementation also does something similar, but instead
it negates and restores only the *pid* field and functions that
might access its value know to handle such case (getpid, raise
and pthread ones that uses INVALID_TD_P/INVALID_NOT_TERMINATED_TD_P
macros that check only *tid* field). Also vfork does not call
__clone directly, instead calling either __NR_vfork or __NR_clone
directly.
So this patch removes this clone behavior by avoiding setting
the pthread pid/tid field for CLONE_VM. There is no need to
check for CLONE_THREAD, since the minimum supported kernel in all
architecture implies that CLONE_VM must be used with CLONE_THREAD,
otherwise clone returns EINVAL.

It also removes the linux tst-getpid2.c test which expects the previous
behavior and instead add another clone test.
Tested on x86_64, i686, x32, powerpc64le, aarch64, armhf, s390, and
s390x. I also did limited check on mips32 and sparc64 (using the new
added test).
I also got reviews from both m68k, hppa, and tile. So I presume for
these architecture the patch works.
The fixes for alpha, microblaze, sh, ia64, and nio2 have not been
tested.

The personality system call, starting with linux kernel commit
v2.6.29-6609-g11d06b2a1e5658f448a308aa3beb97bacd64a940, always
successfully changes the personality if requested. The syscall
wrapper, however, still can return an error in the following cases:
- the value returned by the system call looks like an error
due to architecture limitations of 32-bit kernels;
- a personality greater than 0xffffffff is passed to the system call,
and the 64-bit kernel does not have commit
v2.6.35-rc1-372-g485d527686850d68a0e9006dd9904f19f122485e
that would truncate this value to unsigned int;
- on sparc64, the value returned by the system call looks like an error
due to sparc64 kernel sign extension bug.
The solution is three-fold:
- move generic syscalls.list personality entry to generic 64-bit
syscalls.list file;
- for each 32-bit architecture that use negated errno semantics,
add a NOERRNO personality entry to their syscalls.list file;
- for sparc64 and 32-bit architectures that use dedicated registers
to flag syscall errors, add a wrapper around personality syscall;
if the system call return value is flagged as an error, this wrapper
returns the negated "would be errno" value, otherwise it returns
the system call return value; on sparc64, it also truncates the
personality argument to unsigned int before passing it to the kernel.

Various Linux kernel syscalls have become obsolete over time.
Specifically, the following are obsolete in all kernel versions
supported by glibc, are not present for architectures more recently
added to the kernel, and as such, the wrapper functions for them
should be compat symbols, not in static libc and not available for new
links with shared libc.
* bdflush: in Linux 2.6, does nothing if present.
* create_module get_kernel_syms query_module: Linux 2.4 module
interface, syscalls not present in Linux 2.6.
* uselib: part of the mechanism for loading a.out shared libraries,
irrelevant with ELF.
This patch adds support for syscalls.list to list syscall aliases of
the form NAME@VERSION:OBSOLETED, with SHLIB_COMPAT conditionals being
generated for such aliases. Those five syscalls are then made into
compat symbols (obsoleted in glibc 2.23, so future ports won't have
these symbols at all), with the header <sys/kdaemon.h> declaring
bdflush being removed. When we move to 3.2 as minimum kernel version,
the same can be done for nfsservctl (removed in Linux 3.1) as well.
Tested for x86_64 and x86 (testsuite, as well as checking that the
symbols in question indeed become compat symbols, that they are indeed
omitted from static libc, and that the generated SHLIB_COMPAT
conditionals look right).

With current kernel versions, the check does not reliably detect that
unavailable CPUs are requested, for these reasons:
(1) The kernel will silently ignore non-allowed CPUs, that is, CPUs
which are physically present but disallowed for the thread
based on system configuration.
(2) Similarly, CPU bits which lack an online CPU (possible CPUs)
are ignored.
(3) The existing probing code assumes that the CPU mask size is a
power of two and at least 1024. Neither has it to be a power
of two, nor is the minimum possible value 1024, so the value
determined is often too large. This means that the CPU set
size check in glibc accepts CPU bits beyond the actual hard
system limit.
(4) Future kernel versions may not even have a fixed CPU set size.
After the removal of the probing code, the kernel still returns
EINVAL if no CPU in the requested set remains which can run the
thread after the affinity change.
Applications which care about the exact affinity mask will have
to query it using sched_getaffinity after setting it. Due to the
effects described above, this commit does not change this.
The new tests supersede tst-getcpu, which is removed. This
addresses bug 19164 because the new tests allocate CPU sets
dynamically.

The recvmsg system calls for netlink sockets have been particularly
prone to picking up unrelated data after a file descriptor race
(where the descriptor is closed and reopened concurrently in a
multi-threaded process, as the result of a file descriptor
management issue elsewhere). This commit adds additional error
checking and aborts the process if a datagram of unexpected length
(without the netlink header) is received, or an error code which
cannot happen due to the way the netlink socket is used.

This patch removes the socket.S implementation for all ports and replace
it by a C implementation using socketcall. For ports that implement
the syscall directly, there is no change.
The patch idea is to simplify the socket function implementation that
uses the socketcall to be based on C implemetation instead of a pseudo
assembly implementation with arch specific parts. The patch then remove
the assembly implementatation for the ports which uses socketcall
(i386, microblaze, mips, powerpc, sparc, m68k, s390 and sh).
I have cross-build GLIBC for afore-mentioned ports and tested on both
i386 and ppc32 without regressions.
The current scheme to identify which module a translation unit is
built in depends on defining multiple macros IS_IN_* and also defining
NOT_IN_libc if we're building a non-libc module. In addition, there
is an IN_LIB macro that does effectively the same thing, but for
different modules (notably the systemtap probes). This macro scheme
unifies both ideas to use just one macro IN_MODULE and assign it a
value depending on the module it is being built into. If the module
is not defined, it defaults to MODULE_libc.
Patches that follow will replace uses of IS_IN_* variables with the
IS_IN() macro. libc-symbols.h has been converted already to give an
example of how such a transition will look.
Verified that there are no relevant binary changes. One source change
that will crop up repeatedly is that of nscd_stat, since it uses the
build timestamp as a constant in its logic.

any of the implementation headers removed by the use of `-ffreestanding'.
