1e2bffd05c Use libm_alias_double for some dbl-64 functions.
Continuing the move of libm aliases to common macros that can create
_FloatN / _FloatNx aliases in future, this patch converts some dbl-64
functions to using libm_alias_double, thereby eliminating the need for
some ldbl-opt wrappers.

This patch deliberately limits what functions are converted so that it
can be verified by comparison of stipped binaries. Specifically, atan
and tan are excluded because they first need converting to being weak
aliases; fma is omitted as it has additional complications with
versions in other directories (removing the ldbl-opt version can
e.g. cause the ldbl-128 version to be used instead of dbl-64); and
functions that have both dbl-64/wordsize-64 and ldbl-opt versions are
excluded because ldbl-opt currently always wraps dbl-64 function
versions, so changing those will result in platforms using both
ldbl-opt and dbl-64/wordsize-64 (i.e. alpha) starting to use the
dbl-64/wordsize-64 versions of those functions (which is good, as an
optimization, but still best separated from the present patch to get
better validation).

Tested for x86_64, and tested with build-many-glibcs.py that installed
stripped shared libraries are unchanged by the patch.

24ab7723b8 Consistently use uintN_t not u_intN_t in libm.
This patch changes libm code to make consistent use of C99 uintN_t
types instead of sometimes using those and sometimes using the older
nonstandard u_intN_t names. This makes sense as a cleanup in its own
right, and also facilitates merges to GCC's libquadmath (which gets
the types from stdint.h and so may not have u_intN_t available at
all).

Tested for x86_64, and with build-many-glibcs.py.

bc3753638a Work around powerpc32 integer 0 converting to -0 (bug 887, bug 19049, bug 19050).
On powerpc32 hard-float, older processors (ones where fcfid is not
available for 32-bit code), GCC generates conversions from integers to
floating point that wrongly convert integer 0 to -0 instead of +0 in
FE_DOWNWARD mode. This in turn results in logb and a few other
functions wrongly returning -0 when they should return +0.

This patch works around this issue in glibc as I proposed in
<https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2015-09/msg00728.html>, so that
the affected functions can be correct and the affected tests pass in
the absence of a GCC fix for this longstanding issue (GCC bug 67771 -
if fixed, of course we can put in GCC version conditionals, and
eventually phase out the workarounds). A new macro
FIX_INT_FP_CONVERT_ZERO is added in a new sysdeps header
fix-int-fp-convert-zero.h, and the powerpc32/fpu version of that
header defines the macro based on the results of a configure test for
whether such conversions use the fcfid instruction.

Tested for x86_64 (that installed stripped shared libraries are
unchanged by the patch) and powerpc (that HAVE_PPC_FCFID comes out to
0 as expected and that the relevant tests are fixed). Also tested a
build with GCC configured for -mcpu=power4 and verified that
HAVE_PPC_FCFID comes out to 1 in that case.

There are still some other issues to fix to get test-float and
test-double passing cleanly for older powerpc32 processors (apart from
the need for an ulps regeneration for powerpc). (test-ldouble will be
harder to get passing cleanly, but with a combination of selected
fixes to ldbl-128ibm code that don't involve significant performance
issues, allowing spurious underflow and inexact exceptions for that
format, and lots of XFAILing for the default case of unpatched libgcc,
it should be doable.)

d96164c330 Refactor code forcing underflow exceptions.
Various floating-point functions have code to force underflow
exceptions if a tiny result was computed in a way that might not have
resulted in such exceptions even though the result is inexact. This
typically uses math_force_eval to ensure that the underflowing
expression is evaluated, but sometimes uses volatile.

This patch refactors such code to use three new macros
math_check_force_underflow, math_check_force_underflow_nonneg and
math_check_force_underflow_complex (which in turn use
math_force_eval). In the limited number of cases not suited to a
simple conversion to these macros, existing uses of volatile are
changed to use math_force_eval instead. The converted code does not
always execute exactly the same sequence of operations as the original
code, but the overall effects should be the same.

Tested for x86_64, x86, mips64 and powerpc.

54142c44e9 Use math_narrow_eval more consistently.
Where glibc code needs to avoid excess range and precision in
floating-point arithmetic, code variously uses either asms or volatile
to force the results of that arithmetic to memory; mostly this is
conditional on FLT_EVAL_METHOD, but in the case of lrint / llrint
functions some use of volatile is unconditional (and is present
unnecessarily in versions for long double). This patch make such code
use the recently-added math_narrow_eval macro consistently, removing
the unnecessary uses of volatile in long double lrint / llrint
implementations completely.

0bf061d3e3 Fix erf underflow handling near 0 (bug 16516).
Bug 16516 reports spurious underflows from erf (for all floating-point
types), when the result is close to underflowing but does not actually
underflow.

erf (x) is about (2/sqrt(pi))*x for x close to 0, so there are
subnormal arguments for which it does not underflow. The various
implementations do (x + efx*x) (for efx = 2/sqrt(pi) - 1), for greater
accuracy than if just using a single multiplication by an
approximation to 2/sqrt(pi) (effectively, this way there are a few
more bits in the approximation to 2/sqrt(pi)). This can introduce
underflows when efx*x underflows even though the final result does
not, so a scaled calculation with 8*efx is done in these cases - but 8
is not a big enough scale factor to avoid all such underflows. 16 is
(any underflows with a scale factor of 16 would only occur when the
final result underflows), so this patch changes the code to use that
factor. Rather than recomputing all the values of the efx8 variable,
it is removed, leaving it to the compiler's constant folding to
compute 16*efx. As such scaling can also lose underflows when the
final scaling down happens to be exact, appropriate checks are added
to ensure underflow exceptions occur when required in such cases.

Tested x86_64 and x86; no ulps updates needed. Also spot-checked for
powerpc32 and mips64 to verify the changes to the ldbl-128ibm and
ldbl-128 implementations.
