Current binutils defines __executable_start as the lowest text
address, so using the entry point address as a fallback is no
longer necessary. As a result, overriding <entry.h> is only
necessary if the entry point is not called _start.
The previous approach to define __ASSEMBLY__ to suppress the
declaration breaks if headers included by <entry.h> are not
compatible with __ASSEMBLY__. This happens with rseq integration
because it is necessary to include kernel headers in more places.

The 4af6982e4c fix does not fully handle RTLD_BOOTSTRAP usage on
rtld.c due two issues:
1. RTLD_BOOTSTRAP is also used on dl-machine.h on various
architectures and it changes the semantics of various machine
relocation functions.
2. The elf_get_dynamic_info() change was done sideways, previously
to 490e6c62aa get-dynamic-info.h was included by the first
dynamic-link.h include *without* RTLD_BOOTSTRAP being defined.
It means that the code within elf_get_dynamic_info() that uses
RTLD_BOOTSTRAP is in fact unused.
To fix 1. this patch now includes dynamic-link.h only once with
RTLD_BOOTSTRAP defined. The ELF_DYNAMIC_RELOCATE call will now have
the relocation fnctions with the expected semantics for the loader.
And to fix 2. part of 4af6982e4c is reverted (the check argument
elf_get_dynamic_info() is not required) and the RTLD_BOOTSTRAP
pieces are removed.
To reorganize the includes the static TLS definition is moved to
its own header to avoid a circular dependency (it is defined on
dynamic-link.h and dl-machine.h requires it at same time other
dynamic-link.h definition requires dl-machine.h defitions).
Also ELF_MACHINE_NO_REL, ELF_MACHINE_NO_RELA, and ELF_MACHINE_PLT_REL
are moved to its own header. Only ancient ABIs need special values
(arm, i386, and mips), so a generic one is used as default.
The powerpc Elf64_FuncDesc is also moved to its own header, since
csu code required its definition (which would require either include
elf/ folder or add a full path with elf/).

For some architectures, the two functions are aliased, so these
symbols need to be moved at the same time.
The symbols were moved using scripts/move-symbol-to-libc.py.
It turns out the startup code in csu/elf-init.c has a perfect pair of
ROP gadgets (see Marco-Gisbert and Ripoll-Ripoll, "return-to-csu: A
New Method to Bypass 64-bit Linux ASLR"). These functions are not
needed in dynamically-linked binaries because DT_INIT/DT_INIT_ARRAY
are already processed by the dynamic linker. However, the dynamic
linker skipped the main program for some reason. For maximum
backwards compatibility, this is not changed, and instead, the main
map is consulted from __libc_start_main if the init function argument
is a NULL pointer.
For statically linked binaries, the old approach based on linker
symbols is still used because there is nothing else available.
A new symbol version __libc_start_main@@GLIBC_2.34 is introduced because
new binaries running on an old libc would not run their ELF

There are several compiler implementations that allow large stack
allocations to jump over the guard page at the end of the stack and
corrupt memory beyond that. See CVE-2017-1000364.
Compilers can emit code to probe the stack such that the guard page
cannot be skipped, but on aarch64 the probe interval is 64K by default
instead of the minimum supported page size (4K).
This patch enforces at least 64K guard on aarch64 unless the guard
is disabled by setting its size to 0. For backward compatibility
reasons the increased guard is not reported, so it is only observable
by exhausting the address space or parsing /proc/self/maps on linux.
On other targets the patch has no effect. If the stack probe interval
is larger than a page size on a target then ARCH_MIN_GUARD_SIZE can
be defined to get large enough stack guard on libc allocated stacks.
The patch does not affect threads with user allocated stacks.

This addresses an issue that is present mainly on SMP machines running
threaded code. In a typical indirect call or PLT import stub, the
target address is loaded first. Then the global pointer is loaded into
the PIC register in the delay slot of a branch to the target address.
During lazy binding, the target address is a trampoline which transfers
to _dl_runtime_resolve().
_dl_runtime_resolve() uses the relocation offset stored in the global
pointer and the linkage map stored in the trampoline to find the
relocation. Then, the function descriptor is updated.
In a multi-threaded application, it is possible for the global pointer
to be updated between the load of the target address and the global
pointer. When this happens, the relocation offset has been replaced
by the new global pointer. The function pointer has probably been
updated as well but there is no way to find the address of the function
descriptor and to transfer to the target. So, _dl_runtime_resolve()
typically crashes.
HP-UX addressed this problem by adding an extra pc-relative branch to
the trampoline. The descriptor is initially setup to point to the
branch. The branch then transfers to the trampoline. This allowed
the trampoline code to figure out which descriptor was being used
without any modification to user code. I didn't use this approach
as it is more complex and changes function pointer canonicalization.
The order of loading the target address and global pointer in
indirect calls was not consistent with the order used in import stubs.
In particular, $$dyncall and some inline versions of it loaded the
global pointer first. This was inconsistent with the global pointer
being updated first in dl-machine.h. Assuming the accesses are
ordered, we want elf_machine_fixup_plt() to store the global pointer
first and calls to load it last. Then, the global pointer will be
correct when the target function is entered.
However, just to make things more fun, HP added support for
out-of-order execution of accesses in PA 2.0. The accesses used by
calls are weakly ordered. So, it's possibly under some circumstances
that a function might be entered with the wrong global pointer.
However, HP uses weakly ordered accesses in 64-bit HP-UX, so I assume
that loading the global pointer in the delay slot of the branch must
work consistently.
The basic fix for the race is a combination of modifying user code to
preserve the address of the function descriptor in register %r22 and
setting the least-significant bit in the relocation offset. The
latter was suggested by Carlos as a way to distinguish relocation
offsets from global pointer values. Conventionally, %r22 is used
as the address of the function descriptor in calls to $$dyncall.
So, it wasn't hard to preserve the address in %r22.
I have updated gcc trunk and gcc-9 branch to not clobber %r22 in
$$dyncall and inline indirect calls. I have also modified the import
stubs in binutils trunk and the 2.33 branch to preserve %r22. This
required making the stubs one instruction longer but we save one
relocation. I also modified binutils to align the .plt section on
a 8-byte boundary. This allows descriptors to be updated atomically
with a floting-point store.
With these changes, _dl_runtime_resolve() can fallback to an alternate
mechanism to find the relocation offset when it has been clobbered.
There's just one additional instruction in the fast path. I tested
the fallback function, _dl_fix_reloc_arg(), by changing the branch to
always use the fallback. Old code still runs as it did before.

A new header file is needed because <dl-machine.h> is incompatible
with assembler code. <sysdep.h> is compatible with assembler code,
but it cannot be included in all assembler files because on some
architectures, it redefines register names, and some assembler files
conflict with that.
<elf-initfini.h> is replicated for legacy architectures which need
DT_INIT/DT_FINI support. New architectures follow the generic default
and disable it.
This patch adds a new generic __pthread_rwlock_arch_t definition meant

The default pthread_rwlock_t layout differs from current ports with:

The current way of defining the common mutex definition for POSIX and

not really the best options for newer ports. It requires define some

(__PTHREAD_COMPAT_PADDING_MID and __PTHREAD_COMPAT_PADDING_END), it
exposes options used solely for linuxthreads compat mode
(__PTHREAD_MUTEX_USE_UNION and __PTHREAD_MUTEX_NUSERS_AFTER_KIND), and
requires newer ports to explicit define them (adding more boilerplate
code).
This patch adds a new default __pthread_mutex_s definition meant to
be used by newer ports. Its layout mimics the current usage on both
32 and 64 bits ports and it allows most ports to use the generic
definition. Only ports that use some arch-specific definition (such
as hardware lock-elision or linuxthreads compat) requires specific
headers.
For 32 bit, the generic definitions mimic the other 32-bit ports
of using an union to define the fields uses on adaptive and robust
mutexes (thus not allowing both usage at same time) and by using a
single linked-list for robust mutexes. Both decisions seemed to
follow what recent ports have done and make the resulting
pthread_mutex_t/mtx_t object smaller.
Also the static intialization macro for pthread_mutex_t is set to use
a macro __PTHREAD_MUTEX_INITIALIZER where the architecture can redefine
in its struct_mutex.h if it requires additional fields to be

With only two exceptions (sys/types.h and sys/param.h, both of which
historically might have defined BYTE_ORDER) the public headers that
include <endian.h> only want to be able to test __BYTE_ORDER against
__*_ENDIAN.
This patch creates a new bits/endian.h that can be included by any
header that wants to be able to test __BYTE_ORDER and/or
__FLOAT_WORD_ORDER against the __*_ENDIAN constants, or needs
__LONG_LONG_PAIR. It only defines macros in the implementation
namespace.
The existing bits/endian.h (which could not be included independently
of endian.h, and only defines __BYTE_ORDER and maybe __FLOAT_WORD_ORDER)
is renamed to bits/endianness.h. I also took the opportunity to
canonicalize the form of this header, which we are stuck with having
one copy of per architecture. Since they are so short, this means git
doesn’t understand that they were renamed from existing headers, sigh.
endian.h itself is a nonstandard header and its only remaining use
from a standard header is guarded by __USE_MISC, so I dropped the
__USE_MISC conditionals from around all of the public-namespace things
it defines. (This means, an application that requests strict library
conformance but includes endian.h will still see the definition of
BYTE_ORDER.)
A few changes to specific bits/endian(ness).h variants deserve
mention:
- sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/ia64/bits/endian.h is moved to
sysdeps/ia64/bits/endianness.h. If I remember correctly, ia64 did
have selectable endianness, but we have assembly code in
sysdeps/ia64 that assumes it’s little-endian, so there is no reason
to treat the ia64 endianness.h as linux-specific.
- The C-SKY port does not fully support big-endian mode, the compile
will error out if __CSKYBE__ is defined.
- The PowerPC port had extra logic in its bits/endian.h to detect a
broken compiler, which strikes me as unnecessary, so I removed it.
- The only files that defined __FLOAT_WORD_ORDER always defined it to
the same value as __BYTE_ORDER, so I removed those definitions.
The SH bits/endian(ness).h had comments inconsistent with the
actual setting of __FLOAT_WORD_ORDER, which I also removed.
- I *removed* copyright boilerplate from the few bits/endian(ness).h
headers that had it; these files record a single fact in a fashion
dictated by an external spec, so I do not think they are copyrightable.
As long as I was changing every copy of ieee754.h in the tree, I
noticed that only the MIPS variant includes float.h, because it uses
LDBL_MANT_DIG to decide among three different versions of
ieee854_long_double. This patch makes it not include float.h when
GCC’s intrinsic __LDBL_MANT_DIG__ is available.

Wrap symbol address run-time calculation into a macro and use it
throughout, replacing inline calculations.
There are a couple of variants, most of them different in a functionally
insignificant way. Most calculations are right following RESOLVE_MAP,
at which point either the map or the symbol returned can be checked for
validity as the macro sets either both or neither. In some places both
the symbol and the map has to be checked however.
My initial implementation therefore always checked both, however that
resulted in code larger by as much as 0.3%, as many places know from
elsewhere that no check is needed. I have decided the size growth was
unacceptable.
Having looked closer I realized that it's the map that is the culprit.
Therefore I have modified LOOKUP_VALUE_ADDRESS to accept an additional
boolean argument telling it to access the map without checking it for

No glibc configuration uses the present debug/backtrace.c, whereas
several #include the x86_64 version. The x86_64 version is
effectively a generic one (using _Unwind_Backtrace from libgcc, which
works much more reliably than the built-in functions used by
debug/backtrace.c). This patch moves it to debug/backtrace.c and
removes all the #includes of the x86_64 version from other
architectures which are no longer required.
I do not know whether all the other architecture-specific backtrace
implementations that are based on _Unwind_Backtrace are required, or
whether, where their differences from the generic version do something
useful, suitable hooks could be added to the generic version to reduce
the duplication involved.
Tested with build-many-glibcs.py that installed stripped shared
libraries are unchanged by this patch.

The only architecture in glibc that uses the generic debug/backtrace.c
is hppa. The debug/tst-backtrace* tests fail for hppa, so in fact the
generic debug/backtrace.c is not functional anywhere. Instead, the
x86_64 version is a reasonably generic version that uses
_Unwind_Backtrace from libgcc to backtrace using unwind info, and is
used by several architectures. This patch adds hppa to the
architectures using it (leaving open the possibility of a subsequent
cleanup for 2.28 of moving the x86_64 version to debug/backtrace.c,
and removing all the frame.h files that are now unused).
Reported by Adhemerval in

does fix the backtrace test failures for hppa.

This patch adds two new internal defines to set the internal
pthread_mutex_t layout required by the supported ABIS:
1. __PTHREAD_MUTEX_NUSERS_AFTER_KIND which control whether to define
__nusers fields before or after __kind. The preferred value for
is 0 for new ports and it sets __nusers before __kind.
2. __PTHREAD_MUTEX_USE_UNION which control whether internal __spins and
__list members will be place inside an union for linuxthreads
compatibility. The preferred value is 0 for ports and it sets
to not use an union to define both fields.
It fixes the wrong offsets value for __kind value on x86_64-linux-gnu-x32.
Checked with a make check run-built-tests=no on all afected ABIs.

This patch adds a new build test to check for internal fields
offsets for user visible internal field. Although currently
the only field which is statically initialized to a non zero value
is pthread_mutex_t.__data.__kind value, the tests also check the
offset of __kind, __spins, __elision (if supported), and __list
internal member. A internal header (pthread-offset.h) is added
to each major ABI with the reference value.

This patch obsoletes the pow10, pow10f and pow10l functions (makes
them into compat symbols, not available for new ports or static
linking). The exp10 names for these functions are standardized (in TS
18661-4) and were added in the same glibc version (2.1) as pow10 so
source code can change to use them without any loss of portability.
Since pow10 is deliberately not provided for _Float128, only exp10,
this slightly simplifies moving to the new wrapper templates in the
!LIBM_SVID_COMPAT case, by avoiding needing to arrange for pow10,
pow10f and pow10l to be defined by those templates.

ELFv2 functions with localentry:0 are those with a single entry point,
ie. global entry == local entry, that have no requirement on r2 or
r12 and guarantee r2 is unchanged on return. Such an external
function can be called via the PLT without saving r2 or restoring it
on return, avoiding a common load-hit-store for small functions.
This patch implements the ld.so changes necessary for this
optimization. ld.so needs to check that an optimized plt call
sequence is in fact calling a function implemented with localentry:0,
end emit a fatal error otherwise.
The elf/testobj6.c change is to stop "error while loading shared
libraries: expected localentry:0 `preload'" when running
elf/preloadtest, which we'd get otherwise.

This patch optimizes the generic spinlock code.
The type pthread_spinlock_t is a typedef to volatile int on all archs.
Passing a volatile pointer to the atomic macros which are not mapped to the
C11 atomic builtins can lead to extra stores and loads to stack if such
a macro creates a temporary variable by using "__typeof (*(mem)) tmp;".
Thus, those macros which are used by spinlock code - atomic_exchange_acquire,
atomic_load_relaxed, atomic_compare_exchange_weak - have to be adjusted.
According to the comment from Szabolcs Nagy, the type of a cast expression is
unqualified (see http://www.open-std.org/jtc1/sc22/wg14/www/docs/dr_423.htm):
__typeof ((__typeof (*(mem)) *(mem)) tmp;
Thus from spinlock perspective the variable tmp is of type int instead of
type volatile int. This patch adjusts those macros in include/atomic.h.
With this construct GCC >= 5 omits the extra stores and loads.
The atomic macros are replaced by the C11 like atomic macros and thus
the code is aligned to it. The pthread_spin_unlock implementation is now
using release memory order instead of sequentially consistent memory order.
The issue with passed volatile int pointers applies to the C11 like atomic
macros as well as the ones used before.
I've added a glibc_likely hint to the first atomic exchange in
pthread_spin_lock in order to return immediately to the caller if the lock is
free. Without the hint, there is an additional jump if the lock is free.
I've added the atomic_spin_nop macro within the loop of plain reads.
The plain reads are also realized by C11 like atomic_load_relaxed macro.
The new define ATOMIC_EXCHANGE_USES_CAS determines if the first try to acquire
the spinlock in pthread_spin_lock or pthread_spin_trylock is an exchange
or a CAS. This is defined in atomic-machine.h for all architectures.
The define SPIN_LOCK_READS_BETWEEN_CMPXCHG is now removed.
There is no technical reason for throwing in a CAS every now and then,
and so far we have no evidence that it can improve performance.
If that would be the case, we have to adjust other spin-waiting loops
elsewhere, too! Using a CAS loop without plain reads is not a good idea
on many targets and wasn't used by one. Thus there is now no option to
do so.
Architectures are now using the generic spinlock automatically if they
do not provide an own implementation. Thus the pthread_spin_lock.c files
in sysdeps folder are deleted.

This patch removes all the replicated pthread definition accross the
architectures and consolidates it on shared headers. The new
organization is as follow:
* Architecture specific definition (such as pthread types sizes) are
place in the new pthreadtypes-arch.h header in arch specific path.
* All shared structure definition are moved to a common NPTL header
at sysdeps/nptl/bits/pthreadtypes.h (with now includes the arch
specific one for internal definitions).
* Also, for C11 future thread support, both mutex and condition
definition are placed in a common header at
sysdeps/nptl/bits/thread-shared-types.h.
It is also a refactor patch without expected functional changes.

I noticed that some libm-test-ulps files still had long-obsolete
entries for *_tonearest functions, which will no longer be used since
functions with FE_TONEAREST explicitly set aren't tested separately
from those functions with it as the default rounding mode any more.
This patch removes those obsolete entries. However, as they are a
sign of libm-test-ulps not having been regenerated from scratch for a
long time, I strongly advise people testing on those platforms to
remove / truncate the libm-test-ulps file, run "make regen-ulps" and
commit the regenerated-from-scratch file. (Ideally any failures of
libm tests still present after regeneration would be investigated /
fixed - there are several open "math" bugs spread across these
platforms - but simply regenerating from scratch improves things.)

Continuing the refactoring of bits/mathdef.h, this patch moves the
FP_FAST_* definitions into a new bits/fp-fast.h header. Currently
this is only for FP_FAST_FMA*, but in future it would be the
appropriate place for the FP_FAST_* macros from TS 18661-1 as well.
The generic bits/mathdef.h header defines these macros based on
whether the compiler defines __FP_FAST_*. Most architecture-specific
headers, however, fail to do so, meaning that if the architecture (or
some particular processors) does in fact have fused operations, and
GCC knows to use them inline, the FP_FAST_* macros will still not be
defined.
By refactoring, this patch causes the generic version (based on
__FP_FAST_*) to be used in more cases, and so the macro definitions to
be more accurate. Architectures that already defined some or all of
these macros other than based on the predefines have their own
versions of fp-fast.h, which are arranged so they define FP_FAST_* if
either the architecture-specific conditions are true or __FP_FAST_*
are defined.
After this refactoring, various bits/mathdef.h headers for
architectures with long double = double are semantically identical to
the generic version. The patch removes those headers that are
redundant. (In fact two of the four removed were already redundant
before this patch because they did use __FP_FAST_*.)
Tested for x86_64 and x86, and compilation-only with

This patch remove the PID cache and usage in current GLIBC code. Current
usage is mainly used a performance optimization to avoid the syscall,
however it adds some issues:
- The exposed clone syscall will try to set pid/tid to make the new
thread somewhat compatible with current GLIBC assumptions. This cause
a set of issue with new workloads and usecases (such as BZ#17214 and
[1]) as well for new internal usage of clone to optimize other algorithms
(such as clone plus CLONE_VM for posix_spawn, BZ#19957).
- The caching complexity also added some bugs in the past [2] [3] and
requires more effort of each port to handle such requirements (for
both clone and vfork implementation).
- Caching performance gain in mainly on getpid and some specific
code paths. The getpid performance leverage is questionable [4],
either by the idea of getpid being a hotspot as for the getpid
implementation itself (if it is indeed a justifiable hotspot a
vDSO symbol could let to a much more simpler solution).
Other usage is mainly for non usual code paths, such as pthread
cancellation signal and handling.
For thread creation (on stack allocation) the code simplification in fact
adds some performance gain due the no need of transverse the stack cache
and invalidate each element pid.
Other thread usages will require a direct getpid syscall, such as
cancellation/setxid signal, thread cancellation, thread fail path (at
create_thread), and thread signal (pthread_kill and pthread_sigqueue).
However these are hardly usual hotspots and I think adding a syscall is
justifiable.
It also simplifies both the clone and vfork arch-specific implementation.
And by review each fork implementation there are some discrepancies that
this patch also solves:
- microblaze clone/vfork does not set/reset the pid/tid field
- hppa uses the default vfork implementation that fallback to fork.
Since vfork is deprecated I do not think we should bother with it.
The patch also removes the TID caching in clone. My understanding for
such semantic is try provide some pthread usage after a user program
issue clone directly (as done by thread creation with CLONE_PARENT_SETTID
and pthread tid member). However, as stated before in multiple discussions
threads, GLIBC provides clone syscalls without further supporting all this
semantics.
I ran a full make check on x86_64, x32, i686, armhf, aarch64, and powerpc64le.
For sparc32, sparc64, and mips I ran the basic fork and vfork tests from
posix/ folder (on a qemu system). So it would require further testing
on alpha, hppa, ia64, m68k, nios2, s390, sh, and tile (I excluded microblaze
because it is already implementing the patch semantic regarding clone/vfork).

At present, definitions of float_t and double_t are split among many
bits/mathdef.h headers.
For all but three architectures, these types are float and double.
Furthermore, if you assume __FLT_EVAL_METHOD__ to be defined, that
provides a more generic way of determining the correct values of these
typedefs. Defining these typedefs more generally based on
__FLT_EVAL_METHOD__ was previously proposed by Paul Eggert in
<https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2012-02/msg00002.html>.
This patch refactors things in the way I proposed in
<https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2016-11/msg00745.html>. A new
header bits/flt-eval-method.h defines a single macro,
__GLIBC_FLT_EVAL_METHOD, which is then used by math.h to define
float_t and double_t. The default is based on __FLT_EVAL_METHOD__
(although actually a default to 0 would have the same effect for
current ports, because ports where values other than 0 or 16 are
possible all have their own headers).
To avoid changing the existing semantics in any case, including for
compilers not defining __FLT_EVAL_METHOD__, architecture-specific
files are then added for m68k, s390, x86 which replicate the existing
semantics. At least with __FLT_EVAL_METHOD__ values possible with
GCC, there should be no change to the choices of float_t and double_t
for any supported configuration.
Architecture maintainer notes:
* m68k: sysdeps/m68k/m680x0/bits/flt-eval-method.h always defines
__GLIBC_FLT_EVAL_METHOD to 2 to replicate the existing logic. But
actually GCC defines __FLT_EVAL_METHOD__ to 0 if TARGET_68040. It
might make sense to make the header prefer to base things on
__FLT_EVAL_METHOD__ if defined, like the x86 version, and so make
the choices of these types more accurate (with a NEWS entry as for
the other changes to these types on particular architectures).
* s390: sysdeps/s390/bits/flt-eval-method.h always defines
__GLIBC_FLT_EVAL_METHOD to 1 to replicate the existing logic. As
previously discussed, it might make sense in coordination with GCC
to eliminate the historic mistake, avoid excess precision in the
-fexcess-precision=standard case and make the typedefs match (with a
NEWS entry, again).
Tested for x86-64 and x86. Also did compilation-only testing with

manual/libm-err-tab.pl hardcodes a list of names for particular
platforms (mapping from sysdeps directory name to friendly name for
the manual). This goes against the principle of keeping information
about individual platforms in their corresponding sysdeps directory,
and the list is also very out-of-date regarding supported platforms
and their corresponding sysdeps directories.
This patch fixes this by adding a libm-test-ulps-name file alongside
each libm-test-ulps file. The script then gets the friendly name from
that file, which is required to exist, so it no longer needs to allow
for the mapping being missing.

This patch moves the HIGH_ORDER_BIT_IS_SET_FOR_SNAN macro from being
defined or undefined to the preferred convention of always being
defined, to either 0 or 1, so allowing typo-proof tests with #if.
The macro is moved from math_private.h to a new header
nan-high-order-bit.h to make it easy for all architectures to define,
either through the sysdeps/generic version of the header or through
providing their own version of the header, without needing #ifndef in
the generic math_private.h to give a default definition. The move
also allows the macro to be used without needing math_private.h to be
included; the immediate motivation of this patch is to allow tests to
access this information (to know what kinds of NaNs 0 is a valid
payload for) without needing to include math_private.h. Existing
C level rather than preprocessor conditionals at all, but this patch
does not make such a change).
Tested for x86_64 and x86 (testsuite); also verified for x86_64, x86,

unchanged by the patch.

This patch adds HPPA versions of fegetmode and fesetmode. Untested.
* sysdeps/hppa/fpu/fegetmode.c: New file.
* sysdeps/hppa/fpu/fesetmode.c: Likewise.
TS 18661-1 defines a type femode_t to represent the set of dynamic
floating-point control modes (such as the rounding mode and trap
enablement modes), and functions fegetmode and fesetmode to manipulate
those modes (without affecting other state such as the raised
exception flags) and a corresponding macro FE_DFL_MODE.
This patch series implements those interfaces for glibc. This first
patch adds the architecture-independent pieces, the x86 and x86_64
implementations, and the <bits/fenv.h> and ABI baseline updates for
all architectures so glibc keeps building and passing the ABI tests on
all architectures. Subsequent patches add the fegetmode and fesetmode
implementations for other architectures.
femode_t is generally an integer type - the same type as fenv_t, or as
the single element of fenv_t where fenv_t is a structure containing a
single integer (or the single relevant element, where it has elements
for both status and control registers) - except where architecture
properties or consistency with the fenv_t implementation indicate
otherwise. FE_DFL_MODE follows FE_DFL_ENV in whether it's a magic
pointer value (-1 cast to const femode_t *), a value that can be
distinguished from valid pointers by its high bits but otherwise
contains a representation of the desired register contents, or a
pointer to a constant variable (the powerpc case; __fe_dfl_mode is
added as an exported constant object, an alias to __fe_dfl_env).
Note that where architectures (that share a register between control
and status bits) gain definitions of new floating-point control or
status bits in future, the implementations of fesetmode for those
architectures may need updating (depending on whether the new bits are
control or status bits and what the implementation does with
previously unknown bits), just like existing implementations of
<fenv.h> functions that take care not to touch reserved bits may need
updating when the set of reserved bits changes. (As any new bits are
outside the scope of ISO C, that's just a quality-of-implementation
issue for supporting them, not a conformance issue.)
As with fenv_t, femode_t should properly include any software DFP
rounding mode (and for both fenv_t and femode_t I'd consider that
fragment of DFP support appropriate for inclusion in glibc even in the
absence of the rest of libdfp; hardware DFP rounding modes should
already be included if the definitions of which bits are status /
control bits are correct).
Tested for x86_64, x86, mips64 (hard float, and soft float to test the
fallback version), arm (hard float) and powerpc (hard float, soft
float and e500). Other architecture versions are untested.

The patched change fixes a regression for executables compiled with the
-p option and linked with gcrt1.o. The executables crash on startup.
This regression was introduced in 2.22 and was noticed in the gcc testsuite.
The attached patch fixes dladdr on hppa.
Instead of using the generic version of _dl_lookup_address, we use an
implementation more or less modeled after __canonicalize_funcptr_for_compare()
in gcc. The function pointer is analyzed and if it points to the
trampoline used to call _dl_runtime_resolve just before the global
offset table, then we call _dl_fixup to resolve the function pointer.
Then, we return the instruction pointer from the first word of the
descriptor.
The change fixes the testcase provided in [BZ #19415] and the Debian
nss package now builds successfully.
The attached patch fixes BZ #19270 and the Debian gmt package now builds
successfully. Aside from the comment, the define of __NO_LONG_DOUBLE_MATH
is similar to that in the generic version of glibc.
Build tested on hppa-unknown-linux-gnu with no observed regressions.
Various math_private.h headers are guarded by "#ifndef
_MATH_PRIVATE_H", but never define the macro. Nothing else defines
the macro either (the generic math_private.h that they include defines
a different macro, _MATH_PRIVATE_H_), so those guards are ineffective.
With the recent inclusion of s_sin.c in s_sincos.c, this breaks the
build for MIPS, since the build of s_sincos.c ends up including
<math_private.h> twice and the MIPS version defines inline functions
such as libc_feholdexcept_mips, without a separate fenv_private.h
header with its own guards such as some architectures have.
This patch fixes all the problem headers to use architecture-specific
guard macro names, and to define those macros in the headers they
guard, just as some architectures already do.
Tested for x86 (testsuite, and that installed shared libraries are
unchanged by the patch), and for mips64 (that it fixes the build).

It was noted in
<https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2012-09/msg00305.html> that the

convention.

This brings hppa inline with all the other arches and main code where we
require TLS support everywhere. That means dropping the defines USE_TLS
and USE___THREAD, and dropping the binutils check (since we already have
a version requirement that is new enough).
Commit 2a6ad8142d updated the headers and
the common dl-symaddr.c, but missed that hppa has its own dedicated source
file for this func. Update that too to fix build errors due to missing
exports of the symbol.
The semi-recent SYSCALL_CANCEL inclusion broke hppa due to the sysdep.h
headers not including the unix/sysdep.h headers. Rework the includes so
we match the other ports:
* hppa/sysdep.h:
- Do not include sys/syscall.h as the unix sysdep.h headers do it.
- Do not include config.h as libc-symbols.h does it, and it has no
#ifdef multiple-include protection, and it breaks when some files
do things like #undef __OPTIMIZE__.
* sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/hppa/sysdep-cancel.h:
- Drop the generic/sysdep.h as the unix sysdep.h headers include it.
* sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/hppa/sysdep.h:
- Change to the unix & core hppa sysdep header stacks.
- Undef a few defines that the core headers already set up for us.
This symbol is only used by DL_UNMAP which in turn is only used by
_dl_close_worker in dl-close.c, and _dl_close_worker itself is marked
hidden as it is only used by the ldso. That means _dl_unmap should
be marked hidden. Without this, the elf/check-localplt test fails.
This symbol is defined in the ldso, and is used both there and libc.so.
There is no hidden symbol for it though which leads to relocations in
the ldso and the elf/check-localplt test failing. Add a hidden def for
rtld to fix all of that.
This function/file is only used by hppa & ia64, so no testing is needed
for other arches.
The function feupdateenv has been fixed to correctly handle FE_DFL_ENV
and FE_NOMASK_ENV.
The fesetexceptflag function has been fixed to correctly handle setting
the new flags instead of just OR-ing the existing flags.
This fixes the test-fenv-return and test-fenvinline failures on hppa.
The constraints in the inline assembly in feholdexcept and fesetenv
are incorrect. The assembly modifies the buffer pointer, but doesn't
express that in the constraints. The simple fix is to remove the
modification of the buffer pointer which is no longer required by
the existing code, and adjust the one constraint that did express
the modification of bufptr.
The change fixes test-fenv when glibc is compiled with recent gcc.
