Merge mktime, timegm from upstream Gnulib
[BZ #23603][BZ #16346] This fixes some obscure problems with integer overflow. Although it looks scary, it is almost all a byte-for-byte copy from Gnulib, and the Gnulib code has been tested reasonably well. * include/intprops.h: New file, copied from Gnulib. * include/verify.h, time/mktime-internal.h: New tiny files, simplified from Gnulib. * time/mktime.c: Copy from Gnulib. This has the following changes: Do not include config.h if DEBUG_MKTIME is nonzero. Include stdbool.h, intprops.h, verify.h. Include string.h only if needed. Include stdlib.h on MS-Windows. Include mktime-internal.h. (DEBUG_MKTIME): Default to 0, and simplify later uses. (NEED_MKTIME_INTERNAL, NEED_MKTIME_WINDOWS) (NEED_MKTIME_WORKING): Give default values to pacify -Wundef, which glibc uses. Default NEED_MKTIME_WORKING to DEBUG_MKTIME, to simplify later conditionals; default the others to zero. Use these conditionals to express only the code needed on the current platform. In uses of these conditionals, explicitly spell out how _LIBC affects things, so it’s easier to review from a glibc viewpoint. (WRAPV): Remove; no longer needed now that we have systematic overflow checking. (my_tzset, __tzset) [!_LIBC]: New function and macro, to better compartmentalize tzset issues. Move system-dependent tzsettish code here from mktime. (verify): Remove; now done by verify.h. All uses changed. (long_int): Use a more-conservative definition, to avoid integer overflow. (SHR): Remove, replacing with ... (shr): New function, which means we needn’t worry about side effects in args, and conversion analysis is simpler. (TYPE_IS_INTEGER, TYPE_TWOS_COMPLEMENT, TYPE_SIGNED, TYPE_MINIMUM) (TYPE_MAXIMUM, TIME_T_MIN, TIME_T_MAX, TIME_T_MIDPOINT) (time_t_avg, time_t_add_ok): Remove. (mktime_min, mktime_max): New constants. (leapyear, isdst_differ): Use bool for booleans. (ydhms_diff, guess_time_tm, ranged_convert, __mktime_internal): Use long_int, not time_t, for mktime differences. (long_int_avg): New function, replacing time_t_avg. INT_ADD_WRAPV replaces time_t_add_ok. (guess_time_tm): 6th arg is now long_int, not time_t const *. All uses changed. (convert_time): New function. (ranged_convert): Use it. (__mktime_internal): Last arg now points to mktime_offset_t, not time_t. All uses changed. This is a no-op on glibc, where mktime_offset_t is always time_t. Use int, not time_t, for UTC offset guess. Directly check for integer overflow instead of using a heuristic that works only 99.9...% of the time. Access *OFFSET only once, to avoid an unlikely race if the compiler delays a load and if this cascades into a signed integer overflow. (mktime): Move tzsettish code to my_tzset, and move localtime_offset to within mktime so that it doesn’t need a separate ifdef. (main) [DEBUG_MKTIME]: Speed up by using localtime_r instead of localtime. * time/timegm.c: Copy from Gnulib. This has the following changes: Include mktime-internal.h. [!_LIBC]: Include config.h and time.h. Do not include timegm.h or time_r.h. Make __mktime_internal a macro, and include mktime-internal.h to get its declaration. (timegm): Temporary is now mktime_offset_t, not time_t. This affects only Gnulib. |

Fix year 2039 bug for localtime with 64-bit time_t (bug 22639).
Bug 22639 reports localtime failing to handle time offset transitions
correctly in 2039 and later on platforms with 64-bit time_t.
The problem is the use of SECSPERDAY (constant 86400) in calculations
such as
t = ((year - 1970) * 365
+ /* Compute the number of leapdays between 1970 and YEAR
(exclusive). There is a leapday every 4th year ... */
+ ((year - 1) / 4 - 1970 / 4)
/* ... except every 100th year ... */
- ((year - 1) / 100 - 1970 / 100)
/* ... but still every 400th year. */
+ ((year - 1) / 400 - 1970 / 400)) * SECSPERDAY;
where t is of type time_t and year is of type int. Before my commit

Fix -Os getc_unlocked linknamespace, localplt issues (bug 15105, bug 19463).
Continuing the fixes for linknamespace and localplt test failures with -Os that arise from functions not being inlined in that case, this patch fixes such failures for getc_unlocked. __getc_unlocked already exists; this patch makes it explicitly hidden, calls it where needed for namespace reasons, adds an inline function for it when inline functions are used and adds libc_hidden_proto / libc_hidden_weak for getc_unlocked. Tested for x86_64 (both without -Os to make sure that case continues to work, and with -Os to make sure all the relevant linknamespace and localplt test failures are resolved). Because of other such failures that remain after this patch, neither of the bugs can yet be closed. [BZ #15105] [BZ #19463] * libio/getc_u.c (getc_unlocked): Use libc_hidden_weak. * include/stdio.h [!_ISOMAC] (__getc_unlocked): Use attribute_hidden, and define inline if [__USE_EXTERN_INLINES]. [!_ISOMAC] (getc_unlocked): Use libc_hidden_proto. * misc/getttyent.c (__getttyent): Call __getc_unlocked instead of getc_unlocked. * time/tzfile.c (__tzfile_read): Likewise. |

Fix -Os ferror_unlocked linknamespace, localplt issues (bug 15105, bug 19463).
Continuing the fixes for linknamespace and localplt test failures with -Os that arise from functions not being inlined in that case, this patch fixes such failures for ferror_unlocked. The usual approach is followed of adding __ferror_unlocked (inlined when ferror_unlocked is), making calls use it when required for namespace reasons (only one such call), and using libc_hidden_proto / libc_hidden_weak for the ferror_unlocked weak alias when only localplt but not namespace issues are involved. Tested for x86_64 (both without -Os to make sure that case continues to work, and with -Os to make sure all the relevant linknamespace and localplt test failures are resolved). Because of other such failures that remain after this patch, neither of the bugs can yet be closed. [BZ #15105] [BZ #19463] * libio/ferror_u.c (ferror_unlocked): Rename to __ferror_unlocked and define as weak alias of __ferror_unlocked. Use libc_hidden_weak. * include/stdio.h [!_ISOMAC] (ferror_unlocked): Use libc_hidden_proto. [!_ISOMAC] (__ferror_unlocked) New declaration, and inline function if [__USE_EXTERN_INLINES]. * time/getdate.c (__getdate_r): Call __ferror_unlocked instead of ferror_unlocked. |

Fix -Os feof_unlocked linknamespace, localplt issues (bug 15105, bug 19463).
Continuing the fixes for linknamespace and localplt test failures with -Os that arise from functions not being inlined in that case, this patch fixes such failures for feof_unlocked. The usual approach is followed of adding __feof_unlocked (inlined when feof_unlocked is), making calls use it when required for namespace reasons, and using libc_hidden_proto / libc_hidden_weak for the feof_unlocked weak alias when only localplt but not namespace issues are involved. In the case of getaddrinfo.c, use of __feof_unlocked needs to be conditional since that code is also used in nscd (where __feof_unlocked is not available). Tested for x86_64 (both without -Os to make sure that case continues to work, and with -Os to make sure all the relevant linknamespace and localplt test failures are resolved). Because of other such failures that remain after this patch, neither of the bugs can yet be closed. [BZ #15105] [BZ #19463] * libio/feof_u.c (feof_unlocked): Rename to __feof_unlocked and define as weak alias of __feof_unlocked. Use libc_hidden_weak. * include/stdio.h (feof_unlocked): Use libc_hidden_proto. Abbreviated alternative month names (%Ob) also added (bug 10871).
All the previous changes also repeated to support abbreviated alternative month names. In most languages which have declension and need nominative/genitive month names the abbreviated forms for both cases are the same. An example where they do differ is May in Russian: this name is too short to be abbreviated so even the abbreviated form features the declension suffixes. Implement alternative month names (bug 10871).
Some languages (Slavic, Baltic, etc.) require a genitive case of the month name when formatting a full date (with the day number) while they require a nominative case when referring to the month standalone. This requirement cannot be fulfilled without providing two forms for each month name. From now it is specified that nl_langinfo(MON_1) series (up to MON_12) and strftime("%B") generate the month names in the grammatical form used when the month is a part of a complete date. If the grammatical form used when the month is named by itself is needed, the new values nl_langinfo(ALTMON_1) (up to ALTMON_12) and strftime("%OB") are supported. This new feature is optional so the languages which do not need it or do not yet provide the updated locales simply do not use it and their behaviour is unchanged. [BZ #10871] * locale/C-time.c (_nl_C_LC_TIME): Add alternative month names, define them as the same as primary full month names explicitly. * locale/categories.def (LC_TIME): Add alt_mon and wide-alt_mon. * locale/langinfo.h (__ALTMON_1, __ALTMON_2, __ALTMON_3, __ALTMON_4, __ALTMON_5, __ALTMON_6, __ALTMON_7, __ALTMON_8, __ALTMON_9, __ALTMON_10, __ALTMON_11, __ALTMON_12, _NL_WALTMON_1, _NL_WALTMON_2, _NL_WALTMON_3, _NL_WALTMON_4, _NL_WALTMON_5, _NL_WALTMON_6, _NL_WALTMON_7, _NL_WALTMON_8, _NL_WALTMON_9, _NL_WALTMON_10, _NL_WALTMON_11, _NL_WALTMON_12): New enum constants. Fix strftime build with GCC 8.
Building with current GCC mainline fails with: strftime_l.c: In function '__strftime_internal': strftime_l.c:719:4: error: macro expands to multiple statements [-Werror=multistatement-macros] digits = d > width ? d : width; \ ^ strftime_l.c:1260:6: note: in expansion of macro 'DO_NUMBER' DO_NUMBER (1, tp->tm_year + TM_YEAR_BASE); ^~~~~~~~~ strftime_l.c:1259:4: note: some parts of macro expansion are not guarded by this 'else' clause else ^~~~ In fact this particular instance is harmless; the code looks like: if (modifier == L_('O')) goto bad_format; else DO_NUMBER (1, tp->tm_year + TM_YEAR_BASE); and because of the goto, it doesn't matter that part of the expansion isn't under the "else" conditional. But it's also clearly bad style to rely on that. This patch changes DO_NUMBER and DO_NUMBER_SPACEPAD to use do { } while (0) to avoid such problems. Tested (full testsuite) for x86_64 (GCC 6), and with build-many-glibcs.py with GCC mainline, in conjunction with my libgcc patch <https://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-patches/2017-06/msg02032.html>. * time/strftime_l.c (DO_NUMBER): Define using do { } while (0). Use locale_t, not __locale_t, throughout glibc
<locale.h> is specified to define locale_t in POSIX.1-2008, and so are all of the headers that define functions that take locale_t arguments. Under _GNU_SOURCE, the additional headers that define such functions have also always defined locale_t. Rename xlocale.h to bits/types/__locale_t.h.
xlocale.h is already a single-type micro-header, defining struct __locale_struct and the typedefs __locale_t and locale_t. This patch brings it into the bits/types/ scheme: there are now bits/types/__locale_t.h which defines only __locale_struct and __locale_t, and bits/types/locale_t.h which defines locale_t as well as the other two. None of *our* headers need __locale_t.h, but it appears to me that libstdc++ could make use of it. There are a lot of external uses of xlocale.h, but all the uses I checked had an autoconf test or equivalent for its existence. It has never been available from other C libraries, and it has always contained a comment reading "This file is not standardized, don't rely on it, it can go away without warning" so I think dropping it is pretty safe. I also took the opportunity to clean up comments in various public header files that still talk about the *_l interfaces as though they were completely nonstandard. There are a few of them, notably the strtoX_l and wcstoX_l families, that haven't been standardized, but the bulk are in POSIX.1-2008. * locale/xlocale.h: Rename to... * locale/bits/types/__locale_t.h: ...here. Adjust commentary. Update timezone code from tzcode 2017b.
This patch updates files coming from tzcode to the versions in tzcode 2017b. A couple of changes to other glibc code are needed. time/tzset.c was using the SECSPERDAY macro from tzfile.h, which no longer defines that macro, so a local definition is added to tzset.c. Because timezone/private.h now defines the _ macro whenever HAVE_GETTEXT is true, even if it was previously defined, it is also necessary to avoid a conflict with the definition in include/libintl.h. Defining _ISOMAC is the obvious way to avoid such internal definitions being visible, together with defining TZ_DOMAIN so that zic and zdump continue to get the messages from the libc domain as desired. However, zic and zdump rely on PKGVERSION and REPORT_BUGS_TO from config.h, which is not included by default with _ISOMAC, so -include config.h needs adding to the options for these programs as well. Together those changes allow unmodified tzcode 2017b sources to work in glibc. Tested for x86_64. * timezone/private.h: Update from tzcode 2017b. * timezone/tzfile.h: Likewise. * timezone/tzselect.ksh: Likewise. * timezone/zdump.c: Likewise. * timezone/zic.c: Likewise. * timezone/Makefile (tz-cflags): Add -D_ISOMAC -DTZ_DOMAIN='"libc"' -include $(common-objpfx)config.h. * time/tzset.c (SECSPERDAY): New macro. |

Remove C++ namespace handling from glibc headers.
glibc headers include some code (not particularly consistent or systematic) to put various declarations in C++ namespaces std and __c99, if _GLIBCPP_USE_NAMESPACES is defined. As noted in <https://gcc.gnu.org/ml/libstdc++/2017-03/msg00025.html>, this macro was removed from libstdc++ in 2000. I don't expect compilation with such old versions of libstdc++ to work with current glibc headers anyway (whereas old *binaries* are expected to stay working with current glibc); this patch (which should be a no-op with any libstdc++ version postdating that removal) removes all this code from the glibc headers. The begin-end-check.pl test, whose comments say it is about checking these namespace macro calls, is also removed. The code in that test would have covered __BEGIN_DECLS / __END_DECLS as well, but if those weren't properly matched it would show up with the check-installed-headers-cxx tests, so I don't think there is an actual use for keeping begin-end-check.pl with the namespace code removed. Tested for x86_64 and x86 (testsuite, and that installed stripped shared libraries are unchanged by the patch). * misc/sys/cdefs.h (__BEGIN_NAMESPACE_STD): Remove macro. Split DIAG_* macros to new header libc-diag.h.
Quite a few tests include libc-internal.h just for the DIAG_* macros. Split those macros to their own file, which can be included safely in _ISOMAC mode. This patch fixes the glibc testsuite build for GCC 7 -Wformat-truncation, newly moved out of -Wformat-length and with some further warnings that didn't previously appear. support: Introduce new subdirectory for test infrastructure
The new test driver in <support/test-driver.c> has feature parity with the old one. The main difference is that its hooking mechanism is based on functions and function pointers instead of macros. This commit also implements a new environment variable, TEST_COREDUMPS, which disables the code which disables coredumps (that is, it enables them if the invocation environment has not disabled them). <test-skeleton.c> defines wrapper functions so that it is possible to use existing macros with the new-style hook functionality. This commit changes only a few test cases to the new test driver, to make sure that it works as expected. |

Installed-header hygiene (BZ#20366): time.h types.
Many headers are expected to expose a subset of the type definitions in time.h. time.h has a whole bunch of messy logic for conditionally defining some its types and structs, but, as best I can tell, this has never worked 100%. In particular, __need_timespec is ineffective if _TIME_H has already been defined, which means that if you compile #include <time.h> #include <sched.h> with e.g. -fsyntax-only -std=c89 -Wall -Wsystem-headers, you will get In file included from test.c:2:0: /usr/include/sched.h:74:57: warning: "struct timespec" declared inside parameter list will not be visible outside of this definition or declaration extern int sched_rr_get_interval (__pid_t __pid, struct timespec *__t) __THROW; ^~~~~~~~ And if you want to _use_ sched_rr_get_interval in a TU compiled that way, you're hosed. This patch replaces all of that with small bits/types/TYPE.h headers as introduced earlier. time.h and bits/time.h are now *much* simpler, and a lot of other headers are slightly simpler. * time/time.h, bits/time.h, sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/bits/time.h: Remove all logic conditional on __need macros. Convert miscellaneous function definitions to prototype style.
This patch converts various miscellaneous functions definitions in glibc, found with grep and not covered by my previous scripted conversions, from old-style K&R to prototype-style. These changes were made manually. This is not necessarily exhaustive as formatting variants may have prevented my grep from finding some such definitions. Regarding the changes to files from GMP, they may originally have been omitted when removing __STDC__ conditionals because of the files coming from another package, but (a) GMP no longer has __STDC__ conditionals there anyway and (b) we don't try to keep these files verbatim in sync with GMP (and there are licensing differences), so making the change to them in glibc seems reasonable. Convert 113 more function definitions to prototype style (files with assertions).
This mostly automatically-generated patch converts 113 function definitions in glibc from old-style K&R to prototype-style. Following my other recent such patches, this one deals with the case of function definitions in files that either contain assertions or where grep suggested they might contain assertions - and thus where it isn't possible to use a simple object code comparison as a sanity check on the correctness of the patch, because line numbers are changed. A few such automatically-generated changes needed to be supplemented by manual changes for the result to compile. openat64 had a prototype declaration with "..." but an old-style definition in sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/dl-openat64.c, and "..." needed adding to the generated prototype in the definition (I've filed <https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=68024> for diagnosing such cases in GCC; the old state was undefined behavior not requiring a diagnostic, but one seems a good idea). In addition, as Florian has noted regparm attribute mismatches between declaration and definition are only diagnosed for prototype definitions, and five functions needed internal_function added to their definitions (in the case of __pthread_mutex_cond_lock, via the macro definition of __pthread_mutex_lock) to compile on i386. After this patch is in, remaining old-style definitions are probably most readily fixed manually before we can turn on -Wold-style-definition for all builds. Convert 69 more function definitions to prototype style (line wrap cases).
This automatically-generated patch converts 69 function definitions in glibc from old-style K&R to prototype-style. Convert 703 function definitions to prototype style.
This automatically-generated patch converts 703 function definitions in glibc from old-style K&R to prototype-style. This conversion is deliberately simplistic, excluding any tricky cases as even a patch covering only simple cases is still very large. Currently excluded are: sysdeps files (to improve test coverage for the initial patch); files containing assertions (to avoid line number changes so that generated libraries can be compared); any cases where the generated function declaration would involve lines over 79 characters and so need to be wrapped; any cases with array parameters or other cases where parameter declarators don't end with the parameter name; any other cases that my script didn't parse. I didn't try to make the ChangeLog generation indicate when function definitions are conditional; it just lists the functions changed without regard to that. Tested for x86_64 and x86 (testsuite, and that installed stripped shared libraries are unchanged by the patch). * crypt/cert.c (good_bye): Convert to prototype-style function definition. time: in strptime(), make %z accept [+-]HH:MM tz [BZ #17887]
In ISO 8601, +03:30 is a valid time zone. Currently, strptime() only parses it as a 2-digit time zone an believes this is +03:00. This change makes it accept a single colon. |

Move bits/libc-lock.h and bits/libc-lockP.h out of bits/ (bug 14912).
It was noted in <https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2012-09/msg00305.html> that the bits/*.h naming scheme should only be used for installed headers. This patch renames bits/libc-lock.h to plain libc-lock.h and bits/libc-lockP.h to plain libc-lockP.h to follow that convention. Note that I don't know where libc-lockP.h comes from for Hurd (the Hurd libc-lock.h includes libc-lockP.h, but the only libc-lockP.h in the glibc source tree is for NPTL) - some unmerged patch? - but I updated the #include in the Hurd libc-lock.h anyway. Tested for x86_64 (testsuite, and that installed stripped shared libraries are unchanged by the patch). [BZ #14912] * bits/libc-lock.h: Move to ... * sysdeps/generic/libc-lock.h: ...here. time/tst-strptime2.c: test full input range +/- 0-9999
strptime's %z specifier parses a string consisting of a sign ('+' or '-'), two hours digits, and optionally two minutes digits, into a tm.tm_gmtoff field containing the signed number of seconds the time zone is offset from UTC time. The time/tst-strptime2.c program passes a short list of strings through strptime, validating that either the gmtoff value returned matches an expected value, or that strptime returns an expected NULL for invalid strings (for example, when the minutes portion of the string is outside of the range 00 to 59, or the sign is missing before the hours digits). In review of strptime fixes, Carlos O'Donell expressed a wish that the test function iterate through the entire range of all possible numeric strings (-9999 to +9999) which could be passed to strptime %z, and validate the correct response. Specifically, the test will look for a NULL response from strptime when: * sign ('+' or '-') is not present before the first digit (invalid format). * A sign and no digits are found (invalid format). * A sign and one digit are found (invalid format). * A sign and three digits are found (invalid format). * A sign and four digits (-9999 to +9999) are found but the last two digits (minutes) are in the range 60 to 99. The test will look for a success response from strptime with tm.tm_gmtoff matching the calculated tm_gmtoff value when: * A sign and four digits are found (-9999 to +9999), and the last two digits (minutes) are in the range 00 to 59. * A sign and two digit strings are found (-99 to +99). The test's iteration over the possible digit values results in 22223 test strings prepared, tested, and passed by strptime. The test supports a --verbose command line option which will show the test results of every test input, and a final summary of all tests. Here is some sample output: PASS: input "1113472456 1030", expected: invalid, return value NULL PASS: input "1113472456 +", expected: invalid, return value NULL PASS: input "1113472456 -", expected: invalid, return value NULL PASS: input "1113472456 +0", expected: invalid, return value NULL PASS: input "1113472456 -0", expected: invalid, return value NULL PASS: input "1113472456 +1", expected: invalid, return value NULL ... strptime %z: fix rounding, extend range to +/-9959 [BZ #16141]
Topic: strptime supports a %z input field descriptor, which parses a time zone offset from UTC time into the broken-out time field tm_gmtoff. Problems: 1) In the current implementation, the minutes portion calculation is correct only for minutes evenly divisible by 3. This is because the minutes value is converted to decimal time, but inadequate precision leads to rounding which calculates results that are too low for some values. For example, due to rounding, a +1159 offset string results in an incorrect tm_gmtoff of 43128 (== 11 * 3600 + 58.8 * 60) seconds, instead of 43140 (== 11 * 3600 + 59 * 60) seconds. In contrast, a +1157 offset (minutes divisible by 3) does not cause the bug, and results in a correct tm_gmtoff of 43020. 2) strptime's %z specifier will not parse time offsets less than -1200 or greater than +1200, or if only hour digits are present, less than -12 or greater than +12. It will return NULL for offsets outside that range. These limits do not meet historical and modern use cases: * Present day exceeds the +1200 limit: - Pacific/Auckland (New Zealand) summer time is +1300. - Pacific/Kiritimati (Christmas Island) is +1400. - Pacific/Apia (Samoa) summer time is +1400. * Historical offsets exceeded +1500/-1500. * POSIX supports -2459 to +2559. * Offsets up to +/-9959 may occasionally be useful. * Paul Eggert's notes provide additional detail: - https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2014-12/msg00068.html - https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2014-12/msg00072.html 3) tst-strptime2, part of the 'make check' test suite, does not test for the above problems. Corrective actions: 1) In time/strptime_l.c, calculate the offset from the hour and minute portions directly, without the rounding errors introduced by decimal time. 2) Remove the +/-1200 range limit, permitting strptime to parse offsets from -9959 through +9959. 3) Add zone offset values to time/tst-strptime2.c. * Test minutes evenly divisible by three (+1157) and not evenly divisible by three (+1158 and +1159). * Test offsets near the old and new range limits (-1201, -1330, -2459, -2500, -99, -9959, +1201, +1330, +1400, +1401, +2559, +2600, +99, and +9959) The revised strptime passes all old and new tst-strptime2 tests. |
