2b778ceb40 Update copyright dates with scripts/update-copyrights
I used these shell commands:

../glibc/scripts/update-copyrights $PWD/../gnulib/build-aux/update-copyright
(cd ../glibc && git commit -am"[this commit message]")

and then ignored the output, which consisted lines saying "FOO: warning:
copyright statement not found" for each of 6694 files FOO.
I then removed trailing white space from benchtests/bench-pthread-locks.c
and iconvdata/tst-iconv-big5-hkscs-to-2ucs4.c, to work around this
diagnostic from Savannah:

882774658c Disable spurious -Warray-bounds for ypclnt.c (bug 26687)
Included among the GCC 11 warnings listed in bug 26687, but not fixed
when that bug was marked as FIXED, are -Warray-bounds warnings in
nis/ypclnt.c. These are all for different calls to the same piece of
code, which already has a comment explaining that the element accessed
is in a common prefix of the various structures. On the basis of that
comment, this patch treats the warning as a false positive and
disables it for that code.

Tested with build-many-glibcs.py for arm-linux-gnueabi, where,
together with my previous two patches, this allows the build of glibc
to complete with GCC 11 (further build failures appear in the
testsuite).

ae7a94e5e3 Remove --enable-obsolete-nsl configure flag
this means that *always* libnsl is only built as shared library for
backward compatibility and the NSS modules libnss_nis and libnss_nisplus
are not built at all, libnsl's headers aren't installed.

This compatibility is kept only for architectures and ABIs that have
been added in or before version 2.28.

Replacement implementations based on TIRPC, which additionally support
IPv6, are available from <https://github.com/thkukuk/>.

This change does not affect libnss_compat which does not depended
on libnsl since 2.27 and thus can be used without NIS.

libnsl code depends on Sun RPC, e.g. on --enable-obsolete-rpc (installed
libnsl headers use installed Sun RPC headers), which will be removed in
the following commit.

e9698175b0 y2038: Replace __clock_gettime with __clock_gettime64
The __clock_gettime internal function is not supporting 64 bit time on
architectures with __WORDSIZE == 32 and __TIMESIZE != 64 (like e.g. ARM 32
bit).

The __clock_gettime64 function shall be used instead in the glibc itself as
it supports 64 bit time on those systems.
This patch does not bring any changes to systems with __WORDSIZE == 64 as
for them the __clock_gettime64 is aliased to __clock_gettime (in
./include/time.h).

4a39c34c4f Change most internal uses of __gettimeofday to __clock_gettime.
Since gettimeofday will shortly be implemented in terms of
clock_gettime on all platforms, internal code should use clock_gettime
directly; in addition to removing a layer of indirection, this will
allow us to remove the PLT-bypass gunk for gettimeofday. (We can't
quite do that yet, but it'll be coming later in this patch series.)
In many cases, the changed code does fewer conversions.

The changed code always assumes __clock_gettime (CLOCK_REALTIME)
cannot fail. Most of the call sites were assuming gettimeofday could
not fail, but a few places were checking for errors. POSIX says
clock_gettime can only fail if the clock constant is invalid or
unsupported, and CLOCK_REALTIME is the one and only clock constant
that's required to be supported. For consistency I grepped the entire
source tree for any other places that checked for errors from
__clock_gettime (CLOCK_REALTIME), found one, and changed it too.

(For the record, POSIX also says gettimeofday can never fail.)

(It would be nice if we could declare that GNU systems will always
support CLOCK_MONOTONIC as well as CLOCK_REALTIME; there are several
places where we are using CLOCK_REALTIME where _MONOTONIC would be
more appropriate, and/or trying to use _MONOTONIC and then falling
back to _REALTIME. But the Hurd doesn't support CLOCK_MONOTONIC yet,
and it looks like adding it would involve substantial changes to
gnumach's internals and API. Oh well.)

A few Hurd-specific files were changed to use __host_get_time instead
of __clock_gettime, as this seemed tidier. We also assume this cannot
fail. Skimming the code in gnumach leads me to believe the only way
it could fail is if __mach_host_self also failed, and our
Hurd-specific code consistently assumes that can't happen, so I'm
going with that.

With the exception of support/support_test_main.c, test cases are not
modified, mainly because I didn't want to have to figure out which
test cases were testing gettimeofday specifically.

The definition of GETTIME in sysdeps/generic/memusage.h had a typo and
was not reading tv_sec at all. I fixed this. It appears nobody has been
generating malloc traces on a machine that doesn't have a superseding
definition.

There are a whole bunch of places where the code could be simplified
by factoring out timespec subtraction and/or comparison logic, but I
want to keep this patch as mechanical as possible.

Checked on x86_64-linux-gnu, i686-linux-gnu, powerpc64le-linux-gnu,
powerpc64-linux-gnu, powerpc-linux-gnu, and aarch64-linux-gnu.

34a5a1460e Break some lines before not after operators.
The GNU Coding Standards specify that line breaks in expressions
should go before an operator, not after one. This patch fixes various
code to do this. It only changes code that appears to be mostly
following GNU style anyway, not files and directories with
substantially different formatting. It is not exhaustive even for
files using GNU style (for example, changes to sysdeps files are
deferred for subsequent cleanups). Some files changed are shared with
gnulib, but most are specific to glibc. Changes were made manually,
with places to change found by grep (so some cases, e.g. where the
operator was followed by a comment at end of line, are particularly
liable to have been missed by grep, but I did include cases where the
operator was followed by backslash-newline).

This patch generally does not attempt to address other coding style
issues in the expressions changed (for example, missing spaces before
'(', or lack of parentheses to ensure indentation of continuation
lines properly reflects operator precedence).

Tested for x86_64, and with build-many-glibcs.py.

107562682c Adjust wording of two fall-through comments.
In two places in glibc, -Wextra produces implicit-fallthrough warnings
where there are comments about the fall-through but their wording
doesn't match one of the forms expected by the default
implicit-fallthrough level. This patch adjusts those two places to
have a comment in a form that is accepted, so avoiding the warning
(this seems preferable to only being able to use a looser level of the
warning that allows any comment at all as evidence of deliberate
fall-through).

c2d8f0b704 Avoid "inline" after return type in function definitions.
One group of warnings seen with -Wextra is warnings for static or
inline not at the start of a declaration (-Wold-style-declaration).

This patch fixes various such cases for inline, ensuring it comes at
the start of the declaration (after any static). A common case of the
fix is "static inline <type> __always_inline"; the definition of
__always_inline starts with __inline, so the natural change is to
"static __always_inline <type>". Other cases of the warning may be
harder to fix (one pattern is a function definition that gets
rewritten to be static by an including file, "#define funcname static
wrapped_funcname" or similar), but it seems worth fixing these cases
with inline anyway.

	* nis/nss_nisplus/nisplus-parser.c: Minor optimizations and
	cleanups. Avoid copying data if it can be used in the old place.

(no mailing list reference available). Obviously regardless of the
recently added compiler diagnostics causing a build error this code has
been long non-functional, so I guess NIS+ servers have been supplying
strings that are non-empty and have already been null-terminated.
Which in turn made it unnecessary to make a null-terminated copy,
masking this bug.

	[BZ #23266]
	* nis/nss_nisplus/nisplus-parser.c (_nss_nisplus_parse_pwent):
	Copy and null-terminate entries that are not terminated, in
	addition to empty ones.

d9fee042e2 Consistently use uintN_t not u_intN_t everywhere.
This patch changes the remaining uses of the old nonstandard u_intN_t
types in glibc to use the C99 uintN_t instead, except for the
definitions of those typedefs and the tests of them in the c++-types
test. This follows the previous such fix for libm, and being
consistent in using uintN_t makes sense as a global cleanup.

Tested for x86_64, and with build-many-glibcs.py.

82f43dd2d1 Include shlib-compat.h in many sunrpc/nis source files.
Every file that uses libc_hidden_nolink_sunrpc or
libnsl_hidden_nolink_def needs to include shlib-compat.h. Currently,
most of them are getting it via stdio.h, because libio.h refers to
SHLIB_COMPAT when _LIBC is defined, so it includes shlib-compat.h. My
experimental patch to not install libio.h breaks that chain; stdio.h
no longer pulls in libio.h even for internal users.

Accordingly, this patch adds #include <shlib-compat.h> to many files
in sunrpc/ and nis/. There are also a small number of really obvious
fixups to includes that caught my eye while proofreading the patch -
not including headers twice in a row, not worrying about portability
to Ultrix anymore, sort of thing.

9090848d06 Narrowing the visibility of libc-internal.h even further.
posix/wordexp-test.c used libc-internal.h for PTR_ALIGN_DOWN; similar
to what was done with libc-diag.h, I have split the definitions of
cast_to_integer, ALIGN_UP, ALIGN_DOWN, PTR_ALIGN_UP, and PTR_ALIGN_DOWN
to a new header, libc-pointer-arith.h.

It then occurred to me that the remaining declarations in libc-internal.h
are mostly to do with early initialization, and probably most of the
files including it, even in the core code, don't need it anymore. Indeed,
only 19 files actually need what remains of libc-internal.h. 23 others
need libc-diag.h instead, and 12 need libc-pointer-arith.h instead.
No file needs more than one of them, and 16 don't need any of them!

So, with this patch, libc-internal.h stops including libc-diag.h as
well as losing the pointer arithmetic macros, and all including files
are adjusted.

f88759ea9b Fix nss_nisplus build with mainline GCC (bug 20978).
glibc build with current mainline GCC fails because
nis/nss_nisplus/nisplus-alias.c contains code

  if (name != NULL)
    {
      *errnop = EINVAL;
      return NSS_STATUS_UNAVAIL;
    }

  char buf[strlen (name) + 9 + tablename_len];

producing an error about strlen being called on a pointer that is
always NULL (and a subsequent use of that pointer with a %s format in
snprintf).

As Andreas noted, the bogus conditional comes from a 1997 change:

-  if (name == NULL || strlen(name) > 8)
-    return NSS_STATUS_NOTFOUND;
-  else
+  if (name != NULL || strlen(name) <= 8)

So the intention is clearly to return an error for NULL name.

This patch duly inverts the sense of the conditional. It fixes the
build with GCC mainline, and passes usual glibc testsuite testing for
x86_64. However, I have not tried any actual substantive nisplus
testing, do not have an environment for such testing, and do not know
whether it is possible that strlen (name) or tablename_len might be
large so that the VLA for buf is actually a security issue. However,
if it is a security issue, there are plenty of other similar instances
in the nisplus code (that haven't been hidden by a bogus comparison
with NULL) - and nis_table.c:__create_ib_request uses strdupa on the
string passed to nis_list, so a local fix in the caller wouldn't
suffice anyway (see bug 20987). (Calls to strdupa and other such
macros that use alloca must be considered equally questionable
regarding stack overflow issues as direct calls to alloca and VLA
declarations.)

	* inet/netinet/icmp6.h, inet/netinet/ip6.h
	* resolv/arpa/nameser_compat.h:
	Use __BYTE_ORDER etc. instead of BYTE_ORDER etc.

sys/types.h only conditionally defines caddr_t and clockid_t.

	* sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/sys/quota.h:
	Use __caddr_t instead of caddr_t.
	* sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/sys/timerfd.h:
	Use __clockid_t instead of clockid_t.

Remove a #warning that was the sole actual problem with using sys/ipc.h
without _GNU_SOURCE/_XOPEN_SOURCE.

	* sysvipc/sys/ipc.h: Remove unnecessary #warning.

_LIBC, __USE_XOPEN2K8, and __STDC_VERSION__ are not always defined.

It seems to me that _LIBC should not appear in installed headers, but
avoiding that for argp specifically would require more surgery than
feels appropriate for this patch set. It's possible that
"#ifdef _LIBC" would be sufficient, but I wanted to be conservative.

All three versions of bits/socket.h want to know whether __flexarr
will produce a real flexible array member -- specifically, one that
doesn't alter sizeof(the structure containing it). They were testing
for this with a complicated #if condition that did not agree with
sys/cdefs.h and that tripped -Wundef warnings under -std=c90.
I added a new macro to sys/cdefs.h, __glibc_c99_flexarr_available,
which reveals exactly what these headers want to know. I also took
the opportunity to flatten the rather messy conditional nest defining
__flexarr.

	* argp/argp.h: Check whether _LIBC is defined before expanding it.
	* posix/glob.h: Check whether __USE_XOPEN2K8 is defined instead
	of expanding it.

	* misc/sys/cdefs.h: Tidy up conditional nest defining __flexarr.
	Define __glibc_c99_flexarr_available to 1 when the compiler
	supports C99-compatible flexible array members, 0 otherwise.
	* sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/bits/socket.h
	* sysdeps/mach/hurd/bits/socket.h
	* bits/socket.h: Use __glibc_c99_flexarr_available in
	definitions of struct cmsghdr and CMSG_DATA.

ec999b8e5e Move bits/libc-lock.h and bits/libc-lockP.h out of bits/ (bug 14912).
It was noted in
<https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2012-09/msg00305.html> that the
bits/*.h naming scheme should only be used for installed headers.
This patch renames bits/libc-lock.h to plain libc-lock.h and
bits/libc-lockP.h to plain libc-lockP.h to follow that convention.

Note that I don't know where libc-lockP.h comes from for Hurd (the
Hurd libc-lock.h includes libc-lockP.h, but the only libc-lockP.h in
the glibc source tree is for NPTL) - some unmerged patch? - but I
updated the #include in the Hurd libc-lock.h anyway.

Tested for x86_64 (testsuite, and that installed stripped shared
