Continuing bits/mman.h unification between architectures using the
Linux kernel, this patch arranges for the common set of MAP_* flags to
be used by two more architectures. That common set is moved to
bits/mman-map-flags-generic.h, which is included by bits/mman.h, to
allow architectures to use that common set even if they also have
architecture-specific additions to it. As well as the generic
bits/mman.h, the versions for x86 and ia64 are also then made to
include bits/mman-map-flags-generic.h, so while they still need
architecture-specific bits/mman.h (for MAP_32BIT and MAP_GROWSUP
respectively), they do not need to duplicate the generic flag
definitions in there.
Tested for x86_64 and x86, and with build-many-glibcs.py.

This patch completes the process of unifying sys/procfs.h headers for
architectures using the Linux kernel by making alpha use the generic
version.
That was previously deferred because alpha has different definitions
of prgregset_t and prfpregset_t from other architectures, so changing
to the common definitions would change C++ name mangling. To avoid
such a change, a header bits/procfs-prregset.h is added, and alpha
gets its own version of that header.

This patch continues the process of unifying sys/procfs.h headers for
architectures using the Linux kernel.
A bits/procfs-id.h header is added to define __pr_uid_t and __pr_gid_t
for the types of pr_uid and pr_gid; the default version of this header
uses unsigned int. On some architectures, sys/procfs.h has copies of
32-bit structures for 64-bit builds; those move into a
bits/procfs-extra.h header (they can't go in bits/procfs.h because
they have to come *after* other declarations from sys/procfs.h).
Given appropriate versions of these headers, six more architectures
can then move to providing only bits/procfs*.h without duplicating the
rest of the contents of sys/procfs.h. Only alpha needs a further
bits/ header to be added before it can stop having its own
sys/procfs.h.
Tested for x86_64 and x86, and with build-many-glibcs.py.

As per recent discussions, this patch unifies some of the sys/procfs.h
headers for architectures using the Linux kernel, producing a generic
version that can hopefully be used by all new architectures as well.
The new generic version is based on the AArch64 one. The register
definitions, the only part that generally needs to vary by
architecture, go in a new bits/procfs.h header (which each
architecture using the generic version needs to provide); that header
also has any #includes that were in the architecture-specific
sys/procfs.h, where those includes went beyond the generic set.
The generic version is used for eight architectures where the generic
definitions were the same as the architecture-specific ones. (Some of
those architectures had #if 0 fields, now removed; some defined types
or fields using different type names which were typedefs for the same
underlying types.)
Six of the remaining architectures with their own sys/procfs.h use
unsigned short for pr_uid / pr_gid in some cases; moving those to the
generic header will require a bits/ header to define a typedef for the
type of those fields. In the case of alpha, the generic sys/procfs.h
uses elf_gregset_t (= unsigned long int[33]) to define prgregset_t and
elf_fpregset_t (= double[32]) to define prfpregset_t, but the alpha
version uses gregset_t (= long int[33]) and fpregset_t (= long
int[32]), so avoiding unnecessarily changing the underlying types (and
thus C++ name mangling) again means a bits/ header will need to be
able to define a different choice for those typedefs.
bits/procfs.h is included outside the __BEGIN_DECLS / __END_DECLS pair
(whereas the definitions it contains were previously inside that pair
in various sys/procfs.h headers), because it sometimes includes other
headers and putting those other #includes inside that pair seems
risky. Because none of the declarations in bits/procfs.h are of
functions or variables or involve function types, I don't think it
makes any difference whether they are inside or outside an extern "C"
context.
Tested with build-many-glibcs.py (again, that does not provide much
validation for the correctness of this patch).

Many bits/mman.h headers for Linux architectures have exactly the same
contents, up to whitespace, comments and the number of leading 0s on
constants. Specifically, this applies to architectures that, in the
Linux kernel, either have no uapi/asm/mman.h, or have one that
includes asm-generic/mman.h without any changes or additions relevant
to glibc (this last case is the one that applies to Arm).
It's not useful to have to duplicate the set of MAP_* constants in
glibc for all such architectures and any new architectures with that
property. Thus, this patch creates a generic
sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/bits/mman.h and removes all the
architecture-specific versions that become unnecessary.
Further unification remains possible after this patch. For example,
the new bits/mman.h could become bits/mman-map-flags-generic.h so that
it could also be used by architecture-specific bits/mman.h headers on
architectures that use the generic flags but add architecture-specific
ones to them. That would allow this common set of MAP_* definitions
to be used on ia64 and x86 as well (architectures that include
asm-generic/mman.h from their own uapi/asm/mman.h but define
additional MAP_* values of their own).

As of Linux 4.17, siginfo headers in the Linux kernel have been
largely unified across architectures (so various constants are defined
with common values in include/uapi/asm-generic/siginfo.h even if not
all architectures can generate those particular constants).
This patch makes glibc reflect that unification and the current set of
constants in that header as of Linux 4.18. Various constants are
added to bits/siginfo-consts.h (under the same feature test macro
conditions as the other constants with the same prefix), and removed
from the ia64 bits/siginfo-consts-arch.h where they were previously
there - this is not limited to constants added by the unification.
Nothing is done about macros that are defined in
include/uapi/asm-generic/siginfo.h with names with leading '__' (some
of those are ia64-specific ones that remain in the ia64
bits/siginfo-consts-arch.h without the leading '__' there).
A consequence of these changes is that TRAP_HWBKPT becomes available
on AArch64 and all other architectures as requested in bug 21286.
Tested for x86_64; tested with build-many-glibcs.py for ia64.

Nearly everything in _G_config.h is either junk or more appropriately
defined elsewhere:
* _G_fpos_t, _G_fpos64_t, and _G_BUFSIZ are already completely unused.
* All remaining uses of _G_va_list have been changed to __gnuc_va_list.
* The definition of _G_HAVE_ST_BLKSIZE/_IO_HAVE_ST_BLKSIZE has
been inlined into its sole use.
* The complete definition of _G_iconv_t has been moved to libio.h and
renamed _IO_iconv_t (all actual users used that name).
* _G_IO_IO_FILE_VERSION is vestigial; some code cares whether
_IO_stdin_used exists, but nothing looks at its value. I've
preserved the value as a hardwired constant in csu/init.c.
This means csu/init.c no longer needs to include anything.
* Many of the headers included by _G_config.h were already being
included directly by either either libio.h or stdio.h; the
remaining ones were moved to libio.h.
* _G_HAVE_MREMAP is still relevant, because mremap genuinely is a
Linux extension; it's not in POSIX and as far as I can tell it's
not available on the Hurd either. I also preserved _G_HAVE_MMAP,
since it's conceivable someone would want to port glibc to a
MMU-less, mmap-less environment in the future. Both are now always
defined to 1/0 as is the current convention, instead of the older
1/undef convention. These are the only symbols still defined in
_G_config.h.
* The actual inclusion of _G_config.h moves from libio.h to libioP.h,
as this is where a potential override of _G_HAVE_MMAP happens.
* The #ifdef logic in libioP.h controlling _IO_JUMPS_OFFSET has been
simplified.
After this patch, the only surviving _G_ symbols are the struct tag
names _G_fpos_t and _G_fpos64_t, which are preserved for the sake of
C++ mangled names in applications, and _G_HAVE_MMAP and _G_HAVE_MREMAP,
which do not seem worth renaming.
Installed stripped libraries are unchanged by this patch.
* bits/_G_config.h: Move back to sysdeps/generic/_G_config.h.

* libio/libioP.h: Include _G_config.h here. Move include of
shlib-compat.h up with rest of includes. Simplify conditionals
controlling definition of _IO_JUMPS_OFFSET.
* csu/init.c: Remove always-true #if around entire file.
Don't include stdio.h. Set _IO_stdin_used to hardwired
constant 0x20001, and update commentary.
* include/stdio.h, sysdeps/ieee754/ldbl-opt/nldbl-compat.h:
Replace all uses of _G_va_list with __gnuc_va_list.
* libio/filedoalloc.c: Use #if defined _STATBUF_ST_BLKSIZE

* libio/fileops.c: Test _G_HAVE_MREMAP with #if, not #ifdef.
* libio/iofdopen.c, libio/iofopen.c: Test _G_HAVE_MMAP with #if,
not #ifdef.
We shipped 2.27 with libio.h and _G_config.h still installed but
issuing warnings when used. Let's stop installing them early in 2.28
so that we have plenty of time to think of another plan if there are
problems.
The public stdio.h had a genuine dependency on libio.h for the
complete definitions of FILE and cookie_io_functions_t, and a genuine
dependency on _G_config.h for the complete definitions of fpos_t and
fpos64_t; these are moved to single-type headers.
bits/types/struct_FILE.h also provides a handful of accessor and
bitflags macros so that code is not duplicated between bits/stdio.h
and libio.h. All the other _IO_ and _G_ names used by the public
stdio.h can be replaced with either public names or __-names.
In order to minimize the risk of breaking our own compatibility code,
bits/types/struct_FILE.h preserves the _IO_USE_OLD_IO_FILE mechanism
exactly as it was in libio.h, but you have to define _LIBC to use it,
or it'll error out. Similarly, _IO_lock_t_defined is preserved
exactly, but will error out if used without defining _LIBC.
Internally, include/stdio.h continues to include libio.h, and libio.h
scrupulously provides every _IO_* and _G_* name that it always did,
perhaps now defined in terms of the public names. This is how this
patch avoids touching dozens of files throughout glibc and becoming
entangled with the _IO_MTSAFE_IO mess. The remaining patches in this
series eliminate most of the _G_ names.
Tested on x86_64-linux; in addition to the test suite, I installed the
library in a sysroot and verified that a simple program that uses
stdio.h could be compiled against the installed library, and I also
verified that installed stripped libraries are unchanged.

libio.h was originally the header for a set of supported GNU
extensions, but they have not been maintained as such in many years,
they are now standing in the way of improvements to stdio, and we
don't think there are any remaining external users. _G_config.h was
never intended for public use, but predates the bits convention.
Move both of these headers into the bits directory and provide stubs
at top level which issue deprecation warnings.
The contents of (bits/)libio.h and (bits/)_G_config.h are still
exposed to external software via stdio.h; changing that requires more

This adds system call wrappers for pkey_alloc, pkey_free, pkey_mprotect,
and x86-64 implementations of pkey_get and pkey_set, which abstract over
the PKRU CPU register and hide the actual number of memory protection
keys supported by the CPU. pkey_mprotect with a -1 key is implemented
using mprotect, so it will work even if the kernel does not support the
pkey_mprotect system call.
The system call wrapers use unsigned int instead of unsigned long for
parameters, so that no special treatment for x32 is needed. The flags
argument is currently unused, and the access rights bit mask is limited
to two bits by the current PKRU register layout anyway.

The system call is somewhat obscure because it is closely related
to file descriptor sealing. However, it is also the recommended
way to create alias mappings, which is why it has more general use.
No emulation is provided. Except for the name of the
/proc/self/fd links, it would be possible to implement an
approximation using O_TMPFILE and tmpfs, but this does not appear
to be worth the added complexity.

While reviewing Linux 4.13 for glibc header changes needed, I noticed
that bits/fcntl-linux.h was missing F_ADD_SEALS etc. from Linux 3.17.
I didn't find any discussion indicating this omission is deliberate.
Now, these interfaces can only be used with file descriptors created
with memfd_create, and we don't have a memfd_create wrapper in glibc
(a patch was submitted in October 2014, albeit without documentation /
tests, and discussions continued over the next few months, but without
consensus on whether to add the interface - and we still lack any
general consensus on syscall wrappers), but I don't think that's a
reason to exclude the constants from bits/fcntl-linux.h (especially as
the header does not look compatible with simultaneously including
linux/fcntl.h).
(Some of those 2014/2015 discussions raised concerns about difficulty
using the memfd_create / sealing interface, but those seem to me more
like a question of whether it should be part of the OS-independent GNU
API - in my view, even fairly specialized syscalls ought to have
wrappers added to glibc if not obsolescent, but there may be cases
where we only want to include them in the Linux-specific API and
anything in the OS-independent GNU API should be different - rather
than being relevant to whether constants for use with fcntl should
appear in headers.)

XPG4.2 defines the siginfo_t type, but not union sigval or its
contents (which were added in the 1993 edition of POSIX.1), resulting
in namespace violations for sigval, sival_int and sival_ptr for
signal.h and sys/wait.h for that standard because those headers
incorrectly expose those names in that case.
This patch fixes this problem. The public type in this case is union
sigval, but various places in the headers use the sigval_t name for
it; direct uses of union sigval are already properly guarded or in
headers not in XPG4.2. Now, sigval_t, although not a standard name,
does seem to be widely used outside glibc. The approach taken by this
patch is to make installed headers use the name __sigval_t instead.
__sigval_t is then defined to either union sigval or union __sigval
(where union __sigval has __-prefixed member names as well), depending
on whether there are any namespace issues with the union sigval name
and its members. In the case where union __sigval is used, sigval_t
is not defined at all, to avoid the problem of sigval_t having a C++
mangled name that depends on feature test macros. sigval_t is still
defined by signal.h if __USE_MISC (reflecting the nonstandard nature
of that name).

For XPG4.2, sa_sigaction, SA_ONSTACK, SA_RESETHAND, SA_RESTART and
SA_NODEFER should be defined in signal.h, but they are only defined
for other standards at present.
This patch fixes the various bits/sigaction.h headers accordingly.
All the fixes are essentially the same, except those for SPARC and
Tile.
For SPARC, the header (a) spuriously defined various nonstandard
macros for __USE_UNIX98 || defined __USE_XOPEN2K8 and (b) defined some
standard macros as aliases of nonstandard ones instead of the other
way round. This patch fixes the SPARC header to handle these macros
the same way and with the same conditions as those for other
architectures, so the standard macros are the primary ones and the
other ones are defined only for __USE_MISC and are aliases of the
standard ones where applicable.
For Tile, the header spuriously defined the nonstandard macro
SA_NOPTRACE for __USE_UNIX98 || defined __USE_XOPEN2K8; this is moved
to __USE_MISC.
(Those nonstandard macros are in a reserved namespace, but it seems
desirable to be consistent between architectures as far as possible,
and so not define them in standard modes anywhere.)
Tested for x86_64, and with build-many-glibcs.py.

Many of the things defined by bits/signum.h are invariant across all
supported operating systems. This patch factors out all of them to a
new header bits/signum-generic.h, which each bits/signum.h will include
and then override whichever things need adjustment. Normally that will
mean, at most, adding or changing a few signal numbers.
A user-visible side effect is that the obsolete signal constant SIGUNUSED
(which is an alias for SIGSYS on all platforms that define it) is no
longer exposed by any version of bits/signum.h.
A side effect only relevant to glibc hackers is that _NSIG is now defined
in terms of __SIGRTMAX, instead of the other way around. This is because
__SIGRTMAX varies from platform to platform, but _NSIG==__SIGRTMAX+1 is
true universally. If your platform doesn't support realtime signals,
leave __SIGRTMAX equal to __SIGRTMIN.
I also added a Linux-specific test to make sure that our signal constants
match the ones in <asm/signal.h>, since we can't use that header (it's
not even vaguely namespace-clean).
* bits/signum-generic.h: Renamed from bits/signum.h.

Define __SIGRTMIN = __SIGRTMAX = 32, and define _NSIG = __SIGRTMAX+1.

Some older standards (XPG4.2 through POSIX.1:2001, XSI only) require
sys/wait.h to include the definition of struct rusage. This is
missing in glibc.
This patch adds the required definition. struct rusage is moved to a
new header bits/types/struct_rusage.h to avoid bringing in the whole
of sys/resource.h (although the standards in question do allow the
whole of sys/resource.h to be brought in). In the five
bits/resource.h headers, the only variation between the definitions of
struct rusage is that the sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux version is prepared
for x32 (by having anonymous unions with __syscall_slong_t fields) and
the others are not. Thus, this version is suitable for use
generically (everything other than x32 simply has __syscall_slong_t
the same as long int, so there are no API or ABI changes involved, and
anonymous unions are already a required language feature for glibc
headers elsewhere), and this patch uses it as a base for the single
implementation of bits/types/struct_rusage.h.
Tested for x86_64, and with build-many-glibcs.py.

This is fairly complicated, not because the users of __need_Emath and
__need_error_t have complicated requirements, but because the core
changes had a lot of fallout.
__need_error_t exists for gnulib compatibility in argz.h and argp.h.
error_t itself is a Hurdism, an enum containing all the E-constants,
so you can do 'p (error_t) errno' in gdb and get a symbolic value.
argz.h and argp.h use it for function return values, and they want to
fall back to 'int' when that's not available. There is no reason why
these nonstandard headers cannot just go ahead and include all of
errno.h; so we do that.
__need_Emath is defined only by .S files; what they _really_ need is
for errno.h to avoid declaring anything other than the E-constants
(e.g. 'extern int __errno_location(void);' is a syntax error in
assembly language). This is replaced with a check for __ASSEMBLER__ in
errno.h, plus a carefully documented requirement for bits/errno.h not
to define anything other than macros. That in turn has the
consequence that bits/errno.h must not define errno - fortunately, all
live ports use the same definition of errno, so I've moved it to
errno.h. The Hurd bits/errno.h must also take care not to define
error_t when __ASSEMBLER__ is defined, which involves repeating all of
the definitions twice, but it's a generated file so that's okay.

Just include errno.h; don't define __need_Emath or include

__need_FOPEN_MAX wasn't being used anywhere. __need_IOV_MAX was more
complicated; the basic deal is that sys/uio.h wants to define a
constant named UIO_MAXIOV and bits/xopen_lim.h wants to define a
constant named IOV_MAX, with the same meaning. For no apparent reason
this was being handled via bits/stdio_lim.h -- stdio.h is NOT supposed
to define IOV_MAX -- and some mess in Makerules. Also, bits/uio.h on
Linux was being used as a dumping ground for extension functions.
So now we have bits/uio_lim.h, which defines __IOV_MAX.
bits/xopen_lim.h and sys/uio.h use that to define their respective
constants. We also now have bits/uio-ext.h, which is the official
Proper Home for extensions to sys/uio.h. bits/uio.h is removed, and
stdio_lim.h doesn't define IOV_MAX at all.

bits/sched.h has logic to expose only an impl-namespace variant of
struct sched_param (i.e. struct __sched_param), but nothing uses it,
and the only header that includes bits/sched.h is sched.h. The
__need_schedparam logic can therefore be removed.
bits/sched.h also has a great deal of code relating to cpu_set_t
objects that was *almost* the same between the two versions of
bits/sched.h in the tree; a little spelunking indicated that this is
because some bug fixes got applied to the Linux-specific bits/sched.h
but not the generic one. Introduce a new header, bits/cpu-set.h,
containing the version of that code with the bugfixes, have sched.h
include it directly, and delete all of the code from both versions of
bits/sched.h.
Also remove the unnecessary name mangling in the definition of struct
sched_param -- POSIX specifies a field 'sched_priority', so there is
no reason to define it as '__sched_priority' and then paper over that
with a macro. (Just in case someone was using the internal name,
'sched_priority' remains a macro defined to expand to itself, and
'__sched_priority' now expands to 'sched_priority'.)
Finally, as long as I'm touching these files anyway, merge new
constants from linux/sched.h into the Linux bits/sched.h.
* bits/sched.h: Remove __need_schedparam logic and replace with a
normal multiple-include guard. Change field name in struct
sched_param from __sched_priority to sched_priority. Delete
everything under #ifndef __cpu_set_t_defined.
* sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/bits/sched.h: Likewise. Also sync with
kernel sched.h, adding SCHED_ISO and SCHED_DEADLINE constants.
* posix/sched.h: Include bits/cpu-set.h as well as bits/sched.h.
For compatibility, #define sched_priority to itself, and #define
__sched_priority as sched_priority.
* posix/bits/cpu-set.h: New file containing, verbatim, the code
that was under #ifndef __cpu_set_t_defined in

in XPG4.2 (so not in XPG4), and XSI-shaded in POSIX before 2008, so
should be appropriately conditional in the headers. This patch fixes
the conditionals accordingly. (WCONTINUED is actually still
XSI-shaded in POSIX.1:2008, but W* is also reserved there without
XSI-shading, so nothing special needs to be done about the
conditionals on WCONTINUED to conform to POSIX.1:2008 namespace
rules.)
Tested for x86_64.

Various bits/signum.h headers define SIG_HOLD if __USE_UNIX98. That
should be __USE_XOPEN, as this macro is in XPG4. This patch fixes the
conditionals accordingly. Because of other header bugs, this does not
allow any XFAILs to be removed (however, the XPG4/signal.h/conform
XFAIL only depends on a few such straightforward header bugs, not on
the more complicated to fix ucontext_t issues, as ucontext_t isn't
included in signal.h in XPG4).

glibc defines the stack_t type with the tag struct sigaltstack. This
is not permitted by POSIX; sigaltstack is only reserved with file
scope in the namespace of ordinary identifiers, not the tag namespace,
and in the case where stack_t is obtained from ucontext.h rather than
signal.h, it's not reserved with file scope at all.
This patch removes the tag accordingly and updates uses in glibc of
struct sigaltstack. This is similar to the removal of the "struct
siginfo" tag a few years ago: C++ name mangling changes are an
unavoidable consequence. A NEWS item is added to note the changed
mangling. There is inevitably some risk of breaking builds of
anything that relies on the struct sigaltstack name (though the first
few hits I looked at from codesearch.debian.net generally seemed to
involve code that could use the stack_t name conditionally, so
depending on how they determine the conditionals they may work with
glibc not defining the struct tag anyway).
Tested for x86_64 and x86, and with build-many-glibcs.py.

This patch adds support of preadv2 and pwritev2 which are similar to
preadv/pwritev but with an extra flag argument. As for preadv/pwritev
both interfaces are added a non-standard GNU API.
For default 'posix' implementation trying to emulate the Linux supported
flags is troublesome:
* We can not temporary change the file state of the O_DSYNC and O_SYNC
flags to emulate RWF_{D}SYNC (attempts to change the state of using
fcntl are silently ignored).
* IOCB_HIPRI requires the file opened in O_DIRECT and uses an internal
semantic not provided by any other flag (O_NONBLOCK for instance).
So default sysdeps/posix implementations fails with EOPNOTSUPP for any non
supported flag (which are none currently) calls generic preadv/pwritev.
Basically this implementation supports only preadv2 called as preadv (with
flags sets to 0).
The Linux one uses the preadv2/pwritev2 syscall if defined, otherwise it
call preadv/writev. Instead of using the previous __ASSUME_* to
unconditionally issue the syscall (and avoid building the fallback routine),
it call pread/write if the preadv2/pwritev2 syscalls fails. The idea
is just avoid adding another __ASSUME_* and checking each architecture
on every kernel bump and simplify code conditionals.
