6e935d469a x11: Get rid of GdkAtom and APIs supporting it. 
replace all uses with const char * (non-interned).
Also remove a lot fo juggling from atom to GdkAtom to string and back.

The X Atom hash table is now mapping to (again, non-interned) strings.

28dced597f gdk: Remove gdk_text_property_to_utf8_list_for_display() 
A lot of files became empty now, so they have been removed, which makes

4c150d8eb5 The big versioning cleanup 
Remove all the old 2.x and 3.x version annotations.
GTK+ 4 is a new start, and from the perspective of a
GTK+ 4 developer all these APIs have been around since
the beginning.

4042d5f242 gdk: Remove ability to own a selection 
With this, the GDK_EVENT_SELECTION_REQUEST and GDK_EVENT_SELECTION_CLEAR
and the associated GtkWidget signals are gone, too.

fb94f79094 selection: Remove #ifdef WAYLAND 
Instead, turn the functions into backend API:
  gdk_broadway_display_add_selection_targets()
  gdk_broadway_display_clear_selection_targets()
Remove the old per-backend functions, too.

5bf28a3869 gdk: Drop support for native (and thus foreign) subwindows 
We can't really support these on e.g. wayland anyway, and we're trying
to get rid of subwindow at totally in the long term, so lets drop this.
It allows us to drop a lot of complexity.

21a5b038a7 Add annotations so that methods are properly paired to objects. 
Add type annotations to 1st argument of gdk_x11_* functions so that they are
properly recognized as methods of GdkX11 objects.

5bc04bc07b API: gdk: Make GdkEventSelection.requestor a GdkWindow 
instead of a GdkNativeWindow. Also change gdk_selection_notify() API to
take a GdkWindow to match this change.

29eb3fba5f Fix gdk_x11_display_text_property_to_text_list 
This was an incomplete attempt to get rid of the custom free function.
Lets just keep it for now. Bug 637849, patch by Dan Winship.

Also add a test case for this function.

572bb20011 Deal with property encoding functions 
Move everything dealing with compound text to be X11 specific
Only gdk_text_property_to_utf8_list and gdk_utf8_to_string_target
are kept across backends, so add vfuncs for these.

Also, remove the non-multihead-safe variants of all these.

214342eac5 Clean up gdkx.h a bit 
Moving the direct-access redefinitions of various macros
to gdkprivate-x11.h and use that header throughout in x11/.

Also remove a workaround for a long-fixed X server bug.

6aa6338578 Fix handling of GDK_NONE 
Don't intern "NONE" and warn if GDK_NONE is converted to an
