The API encouraged wrong usage - most of the users were indeed wrong.
Use the correct version instead:
gtk_icon_theme_get_for_display (gtk_widget_get_display ())
The reason for this is simply that I want to get hash functions that
have their values close together, so they can fit in a smaller range
(the goal here is 12 bits). By using GQuark, we get consecutive numbers
starting with 1 (and applications have <1000 quarks usually), whereas
interned strings can be all over the place.
As a side effect we also save 64 bytes per declaration.
Previously, we wrapped all GtkCssShadowValues in a GtkCssShadowsValue,
even if it was just one shadow. This causes an unnecessary bloat in
css values.
Make each GtkCssShadowValue able to handle multiple shadows instead, and
use gtk_css_shadow_value* API everywhere.
The differenciation between a literal color value and an RGBA value
caused problems in various situations. Just treat the two the same but
don't allow access to the rgba value of a non-literal color value.
This gets rid of around 1.6k rgba values in the widget-factory.
This might happen if the CSS values of the decoration node are broken,
e.g. if people *accidentally* type large negative values for the
margins.
Fixes#2268
Decoration node for drawing is used only for client side decorated
windows, but corners from opaque region is subtracted also for
normal windows.
Rename function to better reflect what it does and do not subtract
corners if decoration node was not used for drawing.
The "iconified" state is mostly an X11-ism; every other platform calls
this state "minimized" because it may not involve turning a window into
an icon at all.
Unrealize the GSK renderer before destroying children.
This makes the renderer drop any texture caches that
it might have, so that we don't needlessly download
them when releasing the widget-side holder objects.
As a fortunate side effect, this fixes crashes on
exit with GtkGLArea-containing windows under Wayland.
When processing the list of icons for a window to add them to
_NET_WM_ICON gdk_x11_surface_set_icon_list only adds as many
icon sizes as will fit within X protocol limits.
It achieves this by keeping a running total of the number of
bytes taken up by icons already processed and bails as soon
as it goes over the limit.
The problem is, one 512x512 icon is already over the limit,
and so no icons will get added at all if the first icon in
list is 512x512.
Indeed, the code seems to assume the list is sorted from smallest
icon to biggest icon.
This commit changes the caller to sort the list.
With gtk_window_set_position gone, we should never
come up with a new position to set in this code.
Leave a warning in place and remove the gdk_surface_move
calls.
On Windows that call resizes the native window immediately,
and the corresponding GDK event is emitted and processed
before the control is returned to gtk_window_move_resize().
Therefore, update freeze and configure_request_count increment
must happen before the call, not after it.
I can't think of a case where this is the desired
behavior. So, instead of setting an explicit cursor
on all popups, just stop walking the parents at
surface boundaries.
We want to use a gdk_surface_new_popup for popups,
and align the constructor names with the surface
types, so rename
gdk_surface_new_popup -> gdk_surface_new_temp
gdk_surface_new_popup_full -> gdk_surface_new_popup
The temp surface type will disappear eventually.
Now that roots can have parent widgets, we need to
carefully examine all calls of gtk_widget_get_toplevel,
and replace them with gtk_widget_get_root if we want
the nearest root, and not the ultimate end of the parent
chain.
We had code in gtkwindow.c that generated duplicate,
and defective, focus-change events, in the following
way:
- gtkmain.c generates a chain of focus-change events
for moving focus from one window to another
- gtkwindow.c catches a focus-in event in the middle
of this chain and sets itself as 'active'
- and then it proceeds to generate focus-change
events towards its own focus widget without a
related target
This is not necessary since we gtkmain.c already
generates a complete sequence of focus-change events.
So stop doing it.
Export gtk_widget_root/unroot privately,
make them work on roots, and use them in
gtk_window_set_display. This gets us to a
single way to listen for display changes,
the root property.
When a modal dialog is smaller than its parent,
we were keeping the resize cursor from the dialogs
edge all over the parent window, which looks
really irritating, since the resize cursors are
closely associated with the window edge. Fix
this by falling back to the default cursor
outside the grab widgets surface.
Closes: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/issues/23
Set the cursor on the surface of the target
widget, not the surface of some of its parents.
This does not make a difference currently.
But it will in the future, when we have
parented widgets with surfaces.
Activating this action will replace other
activate_default apis. It is more flexible,
since intermediate widgets can intercept the
action and do their own handling.
This api wasn't used anywhere in GTK. And since
we've dropped the variant for the default widget,
this one should go too. If it is needed, it should
become and action too.
The skip-taskbar, skip-pager and urgency hints were
only ever implemented for X11, and are not very useful
with modern desktops. Relegate the functionality to
x11 backend api, and drop the GtkWindow api.
This will be used to let the inspector and other users
pick insensitive widgets again. For now, update all
callers to pass no flags, preserving the current
behavior.
...and the setter/getter for it.
This is a very old X session management thing, and you
will be hard-pressed to find a session manager that can
make use of it, and even harder-pressed to find apps
using it to their advantage.
Change the all the begin_drag and begin_move apis in
GdkSurface and GtkWindow to expect surface coordinates.
Update the x11 implementation to translate to root
coordinates where it matters. Wayland is ignoring the
coordinates anyway.
When the window gets active / inactive, we
don't propagate events, but just send focus-in / -out
to the current focus_widget. Improve this by updating
its state flags as well.
Emit focus change events in the same way as crossing events.
Also change the code to only emit focus change events for
the master keyboard - we only maintain a single focus location,
so sending multiple focus change events for different devices
seems confusing.
GtkWindow has a focus_widget that points to the current input focus.
GtkWidget has a focus_child that points to the child that contains
the input focus. Following the focus_child chain from the toplevel
always leads to the focus_widget. We never unset focus_child, we only
set it. We bubble focus change events.
After considerable discussion, we came to the conclusion
that the convenience of this API wins over the correctness
of gtk_window_present_with_time(), in particular since we
don't have a good mechanism to carry timestamps from the
events to the places where we present windows.
When 0 or GDK_CURRENT_TIME is passed to gtk_window_present_with_time(),
print a warning so that the application developer knows that this isn't
a supported use of the function, but carry on working for now.
Previously, those numbers stored the values relative to the margin box
of the widget. Now they store values relative to the content box,
thereby getting rid of the last remains of weird coordinate systems.
Instead of recording the way up from the target widget to the grab
widget (or toplevel) and then walking that path upwards, just walk the
parent chain and look at the cursor.
I was stuck in an X session and noticed that my resize corners
all got east or north cursors. It turns out that gnome-shell
does not properly advertise support for edge constraints under X11,
and the absence of that makes the code for determining the edge
under the cursor misbehave.
This change should fix that.
The code gets rid of the GtkTreeView and replaces it with a GtkListBox.
Most of the logic is now done via GListModel subclasses.
A big change is that this new list is now tracking updates itself and
doesn't need to be manually updated. All code that used to cause rescans
or add forgotten objects to the tree has been removed.
If objects are missing from the object tree, the logic for tracking them
needs to be added.
CSD titlebar are included in the focus-chain. The logic used makes sure that the
initial focus avoids the titlebar, but tabbing around will eventually get there.
This logic fails in case the window has no other focusable widgets apart from
the ones in the header-bar. If this happens keynav focus will be lost. To handle
the above scenario, we need to fallback to focus the header-bar (if any).
Fixes: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-software/issues/404
The previous attempt at removing configure events entirely
was causing some dialogs not to show up under Wayland.
Presumably due to ordering issues with emitting ::size-change
out of the backend.
Instead, keep configure events in the event queue, but handle
them on the gdk side. This keeps the ordering intact, while
still removing configure events from the api. The dialogs
show up now.
The opaque region is only set when the background color is opaque. So
we need to do something about it when the background color changes.
However, in the case where a size allocation is going to happen, we
already do this update in size_allocate(), so in that case avoid doing
it twice.
We still need a drag gesture both on front (capture) and back (bubble)
to handle dragging from both the GtkWindow widget and chrome in the
headerbar. But we can do it through 2 drag gestures, instead of special
event handling code.
In particular, this patch removes:
gdk_surface_get_events()
gdk_surface_set_events()
gdk_surface_get_device_events()
gdk_surface_set_device_events()
Event masks so far still exist for grabs.
This may result on the later emission of crossing events, with one of the
sides being already unmapped/unrealized. The widget being unmapped will
result on repick and emission of a set of crossing events anyway.
1b9aa1b708 ('a11y: drop the focus tracker') removed a bit too much. We
still have to emit window:activate/deactivate events. They are easy to
emit anyway.

Remove all the old 2.x and 3.x version annotations.
GTK+ 4 is a new start, and from the perspective of a
GTK+ 4 developer all these APIs have been around since
the beginning.
The main GDK thread lock is not portable and deprecated.
The only reason why gdk_threads_add_timeout() and
gdk_threads_add_timeout_full() exist is to allow invoking a callback
with the GDK lock held, in case 3rd party libraries still use the
deprecated gdk_threads_enter()/gdk_threads_leave() API.
Since we're removing the GDK lock, and we're releasing a new major API,
such code cannot exist any more; this means we can use the GLib API for
installing timeout callbacks.

The event is not useful at all, so we are better off
with a signal that doesn't have it, and it is only
relevant on toplevel windows, so we don't need it on
GtkWidget.
With this commit, delete events no longer go through the
::event, ::delete-event, ::event-after widget signals,
but just cause the ::close-request signal on GtkWindow to be
emitted.
Using get_preferred_size here does not work since it computes the
minimum height for the minimum width, but we want to know the minimum
height for the current width.
The fix is twofold. First, when checking that a corner is resizable, we must
check the constraints on both edges. Second, when checking either edge we
must include both perpendicular sides in order to allow those to be
resizable when the constraint does not allow resizing the edge being
checked.
When looking for the cursor to apply, start from the innermost
widget and go up. This is the right behavior for cases like
entry icons. The top-down order we were using so far is the
right behavior for cases like global wait cursors. Since we
have entry icons in gtk, but not global wait cursors, lets
pick the other order for now.
application/x-rootwindow-drop is not useful anywhere else,
so put it under #ifdef GDK_WINDOWING_X11
On W32 this prevents toplevels from automatically becoming valid
drop targets with a useless drop type.

Instead of allowing people to pass a uint user-data, insist on them
comparing mime types.
The user data was a uint instead of a pointer anyway, so uniqueness
could not be guaranteed and it caused more issues than it was worth.
And that's ignoring the fact that it basically wasn't used.
Change constructors to reflect that.
While doing so, also add a fallback argument to the cursor constructors,
so it is now possible to create cursors with fallback.
The check used to achieve discarding events not meant for the window
widget itself (because they are handled in the regular paths). Using
the target widget is the equivalent now.
Use g_value_set/get_boxed() in gtk_window_get/set_property(), case PROP_ICON.
icon_from_list() shall always add a reference to the returned icon.
gtk_window_set_icon() must accept icon != NULL.

We disconnect from the GDK window, so the renderer can't keep any useful
state.
Plus, we might be using an entirely different window next time we
realize (after a call to gtk_window_set_display() for example) that should
use a completely different renderer anyway.
And have a priv->display instead of a priv->screen.
Includes turning gtk_menu_set_screen() into gtk_menu_set_display(),
because that function just forwards to its window.
If the compositor prefers server-side decorations and the client doesn't
customize the title bar, we disable client-side decorations and let the
compositor know. Otherwise, we continue to use client-side decorations.

As Timm Baedert pointed out, the previous fix made the
menubar go on top of popovers, which is just wrong. Instead,
make gtk_window_snapshot handle all direct children of the
window, taking care to stack popovers correctly.
This patch makes that work using 1 of 2 options:
1. Add all missing enums to the switch statement
or
2. Cast the switch argument to a uint to avoid having to do that (mostly
for GdkEventType).
I even found a bug while doing that: clearing a GtkImage with a surface
did not notify thae surface property.
The reason for enabling this flag even though it is tedious at times is
that it is very useful when adding values to an enum, because it makes
GTK immediately warn about all the switch statements where this enum is
relevant.
And I expect changes to enums to be frequent during the GTK4 development
cycle.

Instead of relying on special values of edge constraints, this
patch adds an internal-only gdk_window_supports_edge_constraints()
function that by default returns FALSE, and is implemented by
GdkWindowWayland and GdkWindowX11.
This way, we can properly detect server-side support for this
feature and adapt accordingly.

The last touch on this patch series is making GtkWindow able to
selectively adjust various UI details based on the different
tiled edges. The main driver here is that we don't want to show
shadows on edges that are constrained.
This patch adds the necessary code to do that, while still
maintaining compatibility with the old ways.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=783669
GTK windows don't have their tiling states really
hooked into the client-side decoration code, and
the only effect it has is disabling the resizing
edges.
With the introduction of per-edge tiling information,
we are backed by much more precise data on how the
window manager wants the app to behave.
This patch, then, fixes GtkWindow to take into account
per-edge tiling information. For compatibility purposes,
the previous tiled field was kept, and thing will just
continue working if no edge information is supplied.

Since setting a clip is mandatory for almost all widgets, we can as well
change the size-allocate signature to include a out_clip parameter, just
like GtkCssGadget did. And since we now always propagate baselines, we
might as well pass that one on to size-allocate.
This way we can also make sure to transform the clip returned from
size-allocate to parent-coordinates, i.e. the same coordinate space
priv->allocation is in.
That means the whole hierarchy is getting destroyed, leaving those
behind incurs not only in a leak, but also on weak refs (and unintended
repick) to happen in the wrong moment.
As we now refrain from sending the crossing events if there's an
implicit grab, those events must be sent on button release when
the implicit grab is broken.
Check the grab widget (both explicit and implicit) and check for a cursor
from the target widget up to this grab widget. If the target widget is
outside the grab widget, only the grab wigdet's cursor will be checked.
This also means that we have to ensure the cursor is updated on button
releases, as an implicit grab being deactivated must trigger a cursor
lookup from the target widget.
We don't draw or size-allocate the titlebar when the window is
fullscreen or undecorated, so reflect this by setting it to
!child_visible. This can happen when changing the value of the decorated
property while the window is shown.
We can just replace window comparisons with coordinate matching, the
cursor corresponding to edges is now set in a capture-phase motion
handler, as cursors aren't set on GdkWindows anymore.
There should be no circumstances where an implicit grab is requested but
no focus exists, there's however circumstances (like windowing grabs taking
input to a different window) where we might get implicit grabs being undone
when then new window didn't create a focus for the pointer itself.
Only if they fall outside the grab widget, in that case the widget holding
the implicit grab won't be receiving events anymore, so we can just undo
it.
We now rely on toplevels receiving and forwarding all the events
the windowing should be able to handle. Event masks are no longer a
way to determine whether an event is deliverable ot a widget.
Events will always be delivered in the three captured/target/bubbled
phases, widgets can now just attach GtkEventControllers and let those
handle the events.
