34ffdc6e3f gl: Fix implicit leaking of shader object
According to OpenGL spec, a shader object will only be flagged
for deletion unless it has been detached; when a program object
is deleted, those shader objects attached to it will be detached
but not deleted unless they have already been flagged for deletion.

So we shall detach a shader object before it is deleted, and delete
it before the program object is deleted best.

9698cd67a1 gdkgl: Remove flipping when downloading GL texture
This fix is correct and fixes:

  1) GL textures being upside down in the inspector. They are getting
     downloaded because they've been created in a different GL context
  2) GL textures being upside down in the cairo renderer (same reason)

However, it breaks the testsuite. We do the flipping via the projection
matrix, but most of the shaders don't care about that.

a299bbfc58 Drop gdk_cairo_surface_upload_to_gl() helper
There is nothing really special about this code, its just a helper for
uploading pixel data to opengl, and we're not really in the business
of doing opengl-specific helper functions.

1001995d49 Correctly upload textures for GLES
GLES doesn't support the GL_BGRA +  GL_UNSIGNED_INT_24_8 hack that
we use on desktop OpenGL to upload textures directly in the cairo
pixel format. This adds the required conversions to all the places
that currently need it.

We also add a data_format to the internal gdk_gl_context_upload_texture()
function to make it clearer what the format are. Currently it is always
the cairo image surface format, but eventually we want to support other
formats so that we can avoid some of the unnecessary conversions we do.

Also, the current gdk_gl_context_upload_texture() code always converts
to a cairo format and uploads that like we did before. Later commits
will allow this to use other upload formats that gl supports to avoid
conversions.

cf0175ffce OpenGL/ES: Fix 'R' and 'B' bits inverted on Windows
We need to use GL_BGRA instead of GL_RGBA when doing glReadPixels() on
EGL on Windows (ANGLE) so that the red and blue bits won't be displayed
inverted.

Also fix the logic where we determine whether to bit blit or redraw
everything.

404d79153e Switch to GL_ARB_framebuffer_object
GTK 4.0 was currently using GL_EXT_framebuffer_object, which is
deprecated as the ARB version has been merged into OpenGL 3.0 as well as
OpenGL ES 2.0, and provides laxer requirements.

This is a port of !2076 for 4.x.

391727bd0d GdkWindow -> GdkSurface initial type rename
This renames the GdkWindow class and related classes (impl, backend
subclasses) to surface. Additionally it renames related types:

43c212ac28 build: Enable -Wswitch-enum and -Wswitch-default
This patch makes that work using 1 of 2 options:

1. Add all missing enums to the switch statement
  or
2. Cast the switch argument to a uint to avoid having to do that (mostly
   for GdkEventType).

I even found a bug while doing that: clearing a GtkImage with a surface
did not notify thae surface property.

The reason for enabling this flag even though it is tedious at times is
that it is very useful when adding values to an enum, because it makes
GTK immediately warn about all the switch statements where this enum is
relevant.
And I expect changes to enums to be frequent during the GTK4 development
cycle.

b425cff689 gdk: Add utility for uploading Cairo surfaces to GL
The surface-to-GL upload logic has become more complicated with the
addition of the GLES code paths; it's more logical to have a public
utility function that can be called from GDK users, instead of copy
pasting the whole thing multiple times.

f848450a70 gl: Use a uniform to flip R and B colors on GLES
This allows us to decide when the R and B color channels should be
flipped with a much better granularity.

For instance, when using GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap to create a GL
texture from a surface we don't need to swap the R and B channels, as
the internal representation of the texture data will already have the
appropriate colors.

We also don't need to flip color channels when blitting from a texture.

a942e96c8f gl: Use the appropriate formats when reading buffers on GLES
We cannot use GL_BGRA and GL_UNSIGNED_INT_8_8_8_8_REV when reading back
from the frame buffer in the software fallback path, as they do not
exist on OpenGL ES.

This will make the slow path a bit slower, because of the implicit
format conversion.

e636c316a6 gl: Use older GLSL shaders with legacy contexts
If we're using modern GLSL, then we should stop using deprecated
modifiers, like 'varying' and 'attribute', as well as deprecated global
variables, like 'gl_FragColor'.

On the other hand, with legacy contexts we should be using older GLSL
shaders, to maximize compatibility.

50187ae86d gdkgl should use shader version 1.50
Using version 1.20 with a forward compatible 3.2 core context is incorrect
since OpenGL 3.2 deprecates shader version 1.20 (See section E.2). The latest
fglrx drivers will not compile these shaders.

27cf0fa34c Fix core context creation in GdkGLContext
- Specifically request GL version when creating context. Just specifying core
profile bit results in the requested version defaulting to 1.0 which causes
the core profile bit to be ignored and an arbitrary compatability context to be
returned.

- Fix GL painting by removing GL calls that have been depricated by the 3.2 core
profile.

- Additionally remove glInvalidateFramebuffer() call, it is not supported by 3.2
core.

9fd9f61b00 gdkgl: Use vfunc For Uploading Textures
As the alignments, strides and image formats may be different across
platforms, make the texture upload a vfunc to allow backends to override
the GL commands for uploading textures for the software implementation for
gdk_gl_texture_from_surface(), if necessary.

Suggested by Alex to avoid copying non-trivial portions of code which would
then add maintainenace burden.

2693496b56 gdk_gl_texture_from_surface - fix software fallback
We can't combine multiple draws into one for the software fallback,
because each quad has a different texture. And we generally don't
want to make a larger single texture because then we would have
to upload more data.

16e863ce65 gdkgl.c: Avoid GCCism in Pointer Arithmetic
NULL-plus-something could be seen by the compiler to attempt to do
arithmetic with void *, which is a GCCism.  Instead, do the math normally
and cast the results as a void *.

c01e37a9a5 gdkgl: Texture quads in one giant draw call
This requires us to use GL_TRIANGLES and six verts per quad instead
of four, which makes me think it might not be worth it on
well-optimized GL drivers. However, from talking to some driver
developers about it, the GL_TRIANGLES should be faster, since this
means that there's one giant contiguous buffer instead of many small
buffers.

If we were really rendering a lot of quads, I'd use an element buffer
and GL_PRIMITIVE_RESTART, but we're really not ever rendering that
many quads, and the setup cost for that would just be too annoying.
