When we send an anchor rectangle with a width or
height of 0, mutter reponds with "Invalid anchor
rectangle size". So, don't do that.
This was seen as sudden disappearance of gtk4-demo
when you click the fishbowl benchmark all the way
through to the menubuttons.
Fixes: #3027
We might break the loop early, e.g. if we're unmapped before the round
trip finishes, and to avoid the callback to write to invalid stack
memory, destroy the callback so it won't be invoked.
Fixes: #3026
GTK will not up front know how to correctly calculate a size, since it
will not be able to reliably predict the constraints that may exist
where it will be mapped.
Thus, to handle this, calculate the size of the toplevel by having GDK
emitting a signal called 'compute-size' that will contain information
needed for computing a toplevel window size.
This signal may be emitted at any time, e.g. during
gdk_toplevel_present(), or spontaneously if constraints change.
This also drops the max size from the toplevel layout, while moving the
min size from the toplevel layout struct to the struct passed via the
signal,
This needs changes to a test case where we make sure we process
GDK_CONFIGURE etc, which means we also needs to show the window and
process all pending events in the test-focus-chain test case.
This uses the idle-inhibit protocol from wayland-protocols, to attach an
inhibitor to the GdkSurface. The inhibit function can be called as many
times as the user wants, but the uninhibit function MUST be called as
many times to unset the idle inhibition.
This has been tested on Sway.
If you run weston with the headless backend, you get a Wayland
display with no seat, which is just fine by the protocol.
gdk_display_get_default_seat() returns NULL in this case. Various
widgets assume that we always have a seat with a keyboard and a
pointer, since that is what X guarantees. Make things survive
without that, so we can run the testsuite under a headless
Wayland compositor.
If the wl_surface receiving touch events is destroyed, we will get no
wl_touch.up event to remove the touchpoint from our internal accounting.
Check for this, and drop touchpoints happening in surfaces that do
disappear during operation.
We don't create a grabbing popup if it's not the top most one, as that
is a protocol violation, and complain if anything attempts to do it.
What we didn't do is handle this gracefully in the code that tries to
create said popup.
Fix this by dropping the attempt to show the popup on the floor, instead
of setting various state making it look like it succeeded. This won't
actually fix anything, but it'll result in a bit more accurate warnings
logged, as the state more correctly corresponds to the reality.
GdkEvent has been a "I-can't-believe-this-is-not-OOP" type for ages,
using a union of sub-types. This has always been problematic when it
comes to implementing accessor functions: either you get generic API
that takes a GdkEvent and uses a massive switch() to determine which
event types have the data you're looking for; or you create namespaced
accessors, but break language bindings horribly, as boxed types cannot
have derived types.
The recent conversion of GskRenderNode (which had similar issues) to
GTypeInstance, and the fact that GdkEvent is now a completely opaque
type, provide us with the chance of moving GdkEvent to GTypeInstance,
and have sub-types for GdkEvent.
The change from boxed type to GTypeInstance is pretty small, all things
considered, but ends up cascading to a larger commit, as we still have
backends and code in GTK trying to access GdkEvent structures directly.
Additionally, the naming of the public getter functions requires
renaming all the data structures to conform to the namespace/type-name
pattern.
A toplevel will only ever be transient-for to another toplevel, and only
a toplevel will ever be transient-for, so move the field into the
GdkWaylandToplevel, and make it a pointer to another GdkWaylandToplevel.
We them up there, so that code higher up compared to where they are
defined now can make use of them. Also add a few macros for type
checking and casting.
The third version of xdg-shell introduces support for explicit popup
repositioning. If available, make use of this to implement popup
repositioning.
Note that this does *NOT* include atomic parent-child state
synchronization. For that,
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/wayland/wayland-protocols/issues/13 will
be needed.
This currently uses my own fork of wayland-protocols which adds meson
support, so that we can use it as a subproject. Eventually when
wayland-protocols' meson support lands upstream, we should change it to
point there.
Silence some meson warnings while at it to make CI happy.
This also bumps the glib requirement, since g_warning_once() is used.
With the current implementation, we use a `wl_seat` as the key for our
internal has table where we store the Wayland shortcuts inhibitors.
There is however no technical reason for this, and we could use a
GdkSeat instead, which will ease the implementation of the GdkToplevel
shortcut inhibition API.
There is no shape combining going on anymore, so
call this just gdk_surface_set_input_region, and
remove the offset arguments too. All callers pass
0 anyway.
Update all callers and implementations.
When a popup is already showing, and gdk_surface_present_popup() is
called, if the layout didn't change, we're not really interested in
relayouting.
In the future, we'll be able to get notified if position of the popup
would change by some environmental changes, but until then, just don't
support it.
Restructure the getters for event fields to
be more targeted at particular event types.
Update all callers, and replace all direct
event struct access with getters.
As a side-effect, this drops some unused getters.
Replace the gdk_surface_move_to_rect() API with a new GdkSurface
method called gdk_surface_present_popup() taking a new GdkPopupLayout
object describing how they should be laid out on screen.
The layout properties provided are the same as the ones used with
gdk_surface_move_to_rect(), except they are now set up using
GdkPopupLayout.
Calling gdk_surface_present_popup() will either show the popup at the
position described using the popup layout object and a new unconstrained
size, or reposition it accordingly.
In some situations, such as when a popup is set to autohide, presenting
may immediately fail, in case the grab was not granted by the display
server.
After a successful present, the result of the layout can be queried
using the following methods:
* gdk_surface_get_position() - to get the position relative to its
parent
* gdk_surface_get_width() - to get the current width
* gdk_surface_get_height() - to get the current height
* gdk_surface_get_rect_anchor() - to get the anchor point on the anchor
rectangle the popup was effectively positioned against given
constraints defined by the environment and the layout rules provided
via GdkPopupLayout.
* gdk_surface_get_surface_anchor() - the same as the one above but for
the surface anchor.
A new signal replaces the old "moved-to-rect" one -
"popup-layout-changed". However, it is only intended to be emitted when
the layout changes implicitly by the windowing system, for example if
the monitor resolution changed, or the parent window moved.
We can map a non-grabbing popup wherever, it's just the grabbing
popup-chain that needs to be ensured not to break any ordering rules.
Fix this by managing two lists; one of open popups, and another for
grabbing ones.
Now popups surfaces are always created with the parent set, so we don't
need to implement vorious guess work to try to find what the parent
might be. Remove that code and just use GdkSurface::parent which is
where the parent set during construction ends up at.
Add event queues specifically for surface configuration events
(xdg_surface.configure, xdg_toplevel.configure, xdg_popup.configure etc)
so that a configuration can be completed without having side effects on
other surfaces. This will be used to synchronously configure specific
GdkSurfaces, as is needed by the Gtk layout mechanisms.
The freezing is conditioned on various state, so lets make the thawing a
bit more robust. Without this there was a risk that we'd thaw too many
times if there was a frame callback requested while the conditions for
the freezing were not met.
When we use if (GDK_PROFILER_IS_RUNNING) this means we get an
inlined if (FALSE) when the compiler support is not compiled in, which
gets rid of all the related code completely.
We also expand to G_UNLIKELY(gdk_profiler_is_running ()) in the supported
case which might cause somewhat better code generation.
usec is the scale of the monotonic timer which is where we get almost
all the times from. The only actual source of nsec is the opengl
GPU time (but who knows what the actual resulution of that is).
Changing this to usec allows us to get rid of " * 1000" in a *lot* of
places all over the codebase, which are ugly and confusing.
Add marks for when we do commits, swap buffer or
receive frame events. These are the low-level start
and end points of the frame cycle, and it is useful
to see them in the profiler.
The existing xdg-shell protocols do not support minimization in a way
that allows us to implement the GdkSurface API; the only minimization
operation does not come with a state notification, nor it comes with
a way to undo itself.
Closes: #67
The "iconified" state is mostly an X11-ism; every other platform calls
this state "minimized" because it may not involve turning a window into
an icon at all.
When calling gdk_wayland_surface_export_handle(), if we pass
some 'user_data' but no 'destroy_func', GTK4 crashes. That's
because in xdg_exported_handle() we are unconditionally calling
destroy_func -- even when it's NULL.
Fix that by checking if there's a destroy function before calling
it.
Fixes https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/issues/2179
Windows/surface's aren't supposed to be explicitly moved by any external
part, so don't provide API for doing so. Usage throughout Gdk is
replaced by the corresponding backend variants.
To separate how toplevels and popups are configured, a first step is to
introduce a resize-only vfunc for backends to implement. It's meant to
only configure toplevel windows, i.e. popups. Currently it's used for
both types, but introducing the resize-only API is a first step.
Configuration should happen in response to the xdg_surface.configure
event, not in the events that preceeds it. Do this by making all
configured state pending until the committing "configure" event. Also
split up toplevel vs popup configuration in a more clear way.
To make a frame clock tick as long as any of the associated surfaces
expect to receive ticks, make the surfaces inhibit freezing the clock,
instead of directly tell the frame clock to freeze itself.
This makes it so that as long as any surface using a certain frame clock
is not frozen (e.g. just received a frame event from the display
server), the frame clock will not be frozen.
With this, the frame clock is initiated as frozen, and won't be thawed
until any surface inhibits freeze. It will be frozen again, when every
surface has that previously inhibited freeze uninhibited freeze.
The Wayland backend has a hack to work around
a race with popover mapping: If the surface size
changes before the initial configure, we hide and
show the surface. Unfortunately, the code was doing
this in a way that is externally observable (by
listening for surface state changes), and popovers
were observing it and hiding themselves in response.
Avoid this by not going through the GDK frontend
code for this.
With separate clocks, the phases are not coordinated,
which messes with GTKs size allocation machinery treating
the entire widget tree as a whole, and causes us to
run into assertion where popups get drawn before they
are allocated.
Store popup parents separately from transient-for
parents, since these are separate concepts with
different behaviors. And we need the parent in
the frontend, so we can use it in the fallback
move-to-rect implementation.
We don't need the complicated wrapper system anymore,
since client-side windows are gone. This commit moves
all the vfuncs to GtkSurfaceClass, and changes the
backends to just derive their surface implementation
from GdkSurface.
All the information in it is already contained
in the surface object we pass along, and none
of the backend implementations were using the
attributes at all.
The change to keep some server resources around
until destroy was causing us to not recreate
the right things when a surface is hidden and
then shown again. Make sure to recreate everything.
The Wayland backend was dropping _all_ serverside
resources on hide, which is too early e.g. for
GtkGLArea which wants to use egl resources to
unload textures on unrealize.
Closes: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/issues/1485
We were adding incomplete frame timings to the
profile, which lead to occasional nonsense
numbers. Instead, only add timings to the profile
once we marked them as complete. This also
gives us an opportunity to add the presentation
time as a marker.
Make find_grab_input_seat return a GdkWaylandSeat
instead of a struct wl_seat, so we can use it and
avoid calling gdk_display_get_default_seat when
we need to get a serial later.
The skip-taskbar, skip-pager and urgency hints were
only ever implemented for X11, and are not very useful
with modern desktops. Relegate the functionality to
x11 backend api, and drop the GtkWindow api.
Change the all the begin_drag and begin_move apis in
GdkSurface and GtkWindow to expect surface coordinates.
Update the x11 implementation to translate to root
coordinates where it matters. Wayland is ignoring the
coordinates anyway.
Let's just use the fact that a window was mapped as a subsurface to
remap it above another transient parent instead of relying on the more
complicated 'should-map-as-subsurface' helper function.
In particular, this patch removes:
gdk_surface_get_events()
gdk_surface_set_events()
gdk_surface_get_device_events()
gdk_surface_set_device_events()
Event masks so far still exist for grabs.
Broke up a long line, added an empty one, indented another one, and re-aligned
a large amount of function parameter names that got misaligned in some past
refactoring.

This commit adds support the stable version of the xdg-shell protocol.
Support for the last version of the unstable series is left intact, but
will not receive new features.
The stable version is prioritized above the older version.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=791939
Also, split it into its own file - which was the original reason for
looking at this code, the rewrite was an unintentional side effect.
This changes the context to create surfaces on demand.
So whenever the compositor holds onto a surface while GDK wants to
render, it just creates a new surface. If the compositor releases
surfaces, we will retain one for the next frame to be rendered, but free
all extra ones.
This way, we should get to a stage where we have exactly as many
surfaces as needed and never allocate/free any.
The shortcuts inhibitors hash table is created when we create a
GdkWaylandWindow implementation for a GdkWindow, and it's destroyed once
we finalize the instance. The fake "root" window we create for the
Wayland display does not have a backing native window, so the shortcuts
inhibitors hash table is set to NULL; this causes a critical error
message when calling g_hash_table_destroy() on it. The finalization of
the root window happens when we close a display connection.
We should use g_clear_pointer(), instead, as it's NULL safe.
Without this change, the displayclose test fails, as all warnings are
considered fatal.
We can't freeze the frame clock on commit, but only after-paint,
otherwise the frameclock will resume in the paint stage.
So freeze the frame clock at the end of the frame if we are waiting for
a frame callback.
Note; The diff is only lage because of indentation changes due to
avoiding early returns in favor of a branch.
If a surface is unmapped by the client while gdk is processing updates,
(for example Firefox un-mapping its window on Expose events), the
windowing backend resources might be lost (for example with Wayland)
which can cause a crash in end_paint().
Make sure we drop the cairo surfaces as well when hiding the surface,
that will avoid the crash in gdk_surface_impl_wayland_end_paint() when
trying to attach the staging cairo surface to a released wl_surface,
these will be recreated when needed when the surface becomes visible
again and there is no need to keep such buffers around for a surface
which is not visible anyway.
