Changing the autohide property means the popover needs to be remapped.
Remapping may need user interaction, so lets just unrealize the popover
if the property changes, forcing the application to remap it should it
be shown again.
Replace uses of gtk_css_style_get_value with direct access,
throughout the tree. We don't replace all uses, just those
where we are dealing with a fixed property. Be careful to
handle the currentColor special case for color properties.
This was a good idea back in GTK3 when popovers were toplevels, but now
they're regular child widgets, so they should behave that way.
Also, with the introduction of the bloom filter, gtk_css_node_validate()
now assumes it's only called on root nodes, so assert that that is the
case.
The reason for this is simply that I want to get hash functions that
have their values close together, so they can fit in a smaller range
(the goal here is 12 bits). By using GQuark, we get consecutive numbers
starting with 1 (and applications have <1000 quarks usually), whereas
interned strings can be all over the place.
As a side effect we also save 64 bytes per declaration.
Make gtk_popover_new_from_model() return a GtkPopoverMenu,
rename it to gtk_popover_menu_new_from_model() and add
a relative_to argument to gtk_popover_menu_new().
Update all callers.
We can't improve popover menus as long as we
have to be able to work with any old popover
we're given. Remove this, so we can make
gtk_popover_new_from_model return a subclass.
We were queuing an allocation whenever
the popover is flipped over, unnecessarily,
since we don't change the size of the surface.
This was showing up as popovers being invisible
when flipped over, under X.
We want to use a gdk_surface_new_popup for popups,
and align the constructor names with the surface
types, so rename
gdk_surface_new_popup -> gdk_surface_new_temp
gdk_surface_new_popup_full -> gdk_surface_new_popup
The temp surface type will disappear eventually.
Otherwise we're getting warnings about allocating a widget we haven't
measured first, which is fair. The contents gizmo itself will later take
care about whether or not the real popover child is NULL.
This is better than nothing at all. The wording is taken from Carlos's
commit message when he added this shortly before 3.12 (but skip Since).
Skip the bit from his commit message explaining what this replaced; we
don't need to say all the less good things our convenience API replaces.
This has been broken since we switched key event delivery to follow
the same semantics than pointer/touch. There, GTK+ grabs will influence
the topmost widget during event delivery, rendering the toplevel
unable to handle key navigation. The toplevel must handle those key
events in an explicit manner then.
We don't render the keyboard focus rectangle yet, but I assume that's
something else.
That code branch is meant to check for key events, seems obvious we want
GDK_KEY_PRESS, not GDK_BUTTON_PRESS (which also broke the branch right
below).
Makes us all able to dismiss popovers again.
Now that queue_draw() isn't restricted to clip anymore, we don't need to
care about clip in the CSS engine either.
We do keep GTK_CSS_AFFECTS_CLIP around though because GtkWindow does
care for the window's size.
If you want transparent region, you can just render them transparent.
If you want input shaping, use gdk_surface_input_shape_combine_region().
Also remove gtk_widget_shape_combine_region().
This is an automated change doing these command:

This renames the GdkWindow class and related classes (impl, backend
subclasses) to surface. Additionally it renames related types:
GdkWindowAttr, GdkWindowPaint, GdkWindowWindowClass, GdkWindowType,
GdkWindowTypeHint, GdkWindowHints, GdkWindowState, GdkWindowEdge
This is an automatic conversion using the below commands:
git sed -f g GdkWindowWindowClass GdkSurfaceSurfaceClass
git sed -f g GdkWindow GdkSurface
git sed -f g "gdk_window\([ _\(\),;]\|$\)" "gdk_surface\1" # Avoid hitting gdk_windowing

git sed "GDK_\([A-Z]*\)IS_WINDOW\([_ (]\|$\)" "GDK_\1IS_SURFACE\2"
git sed GDK_TYPE_WINDOW GDK_TYPE_SURFACE

Remove all the old 2.x and 3.x version annotations.
GTK+ 4 is a new start, and from the perspective of a
GTK+ 4 developer all these APIs have been around since
the beginning.
This patch makes that work using 1 of 2 options:
1. Add all missing enums to the switch statement
or
2. Cast the switch argument to a uint to avoid having to do that (mostly
for GdkEventType).
I even found a bug while doing that: clearing a GtkImage with a surface
did not notify thae surface property.
The reason for enabling this flag even though it is tedious at times is
that it is very useful when adding values to an enum, because it makes
GTK immediately warn about all the switch statements where this enum is
relevant.
And I expect changes to enums to be frequent during the GTK4 development
cycle.
Subsurfaces don't currently work with our new rendering,
and this makes popovers unusable. We can go back to using
subsurfaces for popovers when this is fixed.
.update_position() enforces that non-Wayland platforms must position a
Popover within its parent Window. We use the allocation of the Window
to translate the position and check for overshoot on each of its sides.
Calling Widget.get_allocation() of a CSD Window includes its shadows.
But shadows were not excluded from the area in which we can position.
Thus, Popovers could get positioned in the shadow of CSD windows, where,
at least on X11, no input is received. Therefore, positioning a Popover
over a shadow meant its child widgets within that area became unusable.
Fix by calling Window.get_shadow() and including it in the overshoot on
each side. This adjusts for how the allocation includes shadows, making
overshoots with and without shadows the same. Thus, we avoid considering
shadows as viable for positioning, favouring a side where input works.

When the popover is dismissed, we return the focus to
where it came from. However, by using gtk_widget_grab_focus,
we were messing up the selection if that widget happens to
be an entry. Special-case GtkEntry and use
gtk_entry_grab_focus_without_selecting to avoid this issue.
Since setting a clip is mandatory for almost all widgets, we can as well
change the size-allocate signature to include a out_clip parameter, just
like GtkCssGadget did. And since we now always propagate baselines, we
might as well pass that one on to size-allocate.
This way we can also make sure to transform the clip returned from
size-allocate to parent-coordinates, i.e. the same coordinate space
priv->allocation is in.
Remove the special case in gtkwidget.c where we didn't draw any css
background/border for popovers. Instead, rely on themes to not style the
popover node and add a contents gizmo that gets the actual css styling.
We then requeste enough space for the popover to draw both the contents
and the arrow on the side.
