c00e443dcc tst_bench_qlocalsocket: fix Clang 10 warnings about unneeded capture
The timeToTest constant doesn't need to be captured, claims Clang.

Since I don't recall seeing this warning on GCC, be pragmatic and fix
by letting the compiler choose what to capture: [&]. timeToTest is
const, so it doesn't matter whether we capture by reference or value,
the lambda cannot change it either way.

This code doesn't seem to exist in 5.15, so merely

328f22561d Convert QLocalSocket benchmark to use QTestEventLoop
Now that this event loop pays attention to test failures, we can avoid
the time-outs that used to happen on test failure. Also check for
premature failures (but don't return early, so we can shut down the
server gracefully) and give the event-loops sensible time-outs.

f265c87e01 Allow QWindowsPipe{Reader|Writer} to work with foreign event loops, take 2
When a foreign event loop that does not enter an alertable wait state
is running (which is also the case when a native dialog window is
modal), pipe handlers would freeze temporarily due to their APC
callbacks not being invoked.

We address this problem by moving the I/O callbacks to the Windows
thread pool, and only posting completion events to the main loop
from there. That makes the actual I/O completely independent from
any main loop, while the signal delivery works also with foreign
loops (because Qt event delivery uses Windows messages, which foreign
loops typically handle correctly).

As a nice side effect, performance (and in particular scalability)
is improved.

Several other approaches have been tried:
1) Using QWinEventNotifier was about a quarter slower and scaled much
worse. Additionally, it also required a rather egregious hack to
handle the (pathological) case of a single thread talking to both
   ends of a QLocalSocket synchronously.
2) Queuing APCs from the thread pool to the main thread and also
posting wake-up events to its event loop, and handling I/O on the
main thread; this performed roughly like this solution, but scaled
half as well, and the separate wake-up path was still deemed hacky.
3) Only posting wake-up events to the main thread from the thread pool,
and still handling I/O on the main thread; this still performed
comparably to 2), and the pathological case was not handled at all.
4) Using this approach for reads and that of 3) for writes was slightly
faster with big amounts of data, but scaled slightly worse, and the
diverging implementations were deemed not desirable.

We were being inconsistent in how we handled this, some tests skipping
while others using QVERIFY. It makes more sense to skip the tests, since
the problem is a missing pre-condition of the test, not the test itself
being bad or exposing real failures in the implementation.

d79726e9eb Win: QUdpSocket: Use QVarLengthArray for retrieving size
Increased size of the peek buffer to 2048 from 1500 and now
uses QVarLengthArray with space for 10 stack-allocated WSABUF instances,
but still growing at the pace of 5.

In benchmarking (created for and included in this patch) this shows
better performance when retrieving the datagram size for larger
datagrams, and the same performance as before for smaller datagrams
(at the cost of 2048 - 1500 + 16 * 10 = 708 bytes extra stack space).

672b5b7ab6 Set the Qt API level to compatibility mode in all tests.
Qt 5.0 beta requires changing the default to the 5.0 API, disabling
the deprecated code. However, tests should test (and often do) the
compatibility API too, so turn it back on.

79b742b7e0 QtNetwork: use nullary version of qRegisterMetaType<T>("T")
Using the nullary version has the advantage that multiple calls
during a program run are much more efficient, since an inlined
atomic is used to store the result. It also ensures that
Q_DECLARE_METATYPE(T) has been used, whereas qRegisterMetaType<T>("T")
will happily register anything. So I've added the macro where it
was missing, or moved it to a central place when it existed
hidden.

In tst_qnetworkreply, this became a bit tricky, because a private
header is conditionally included, so moved the Q_DECLARE_METATYPE()
into a conditional section, too.

e15548d3e4 Fix sanity check of network test server
Some of Qt's autotests depend on access to a test server. For each test
that used the test server, tests/auto/network-settings.h created a
global object to verify at startup that host lookups to the test server
will succeed (and abort the test otherwise).

There are two problems with that approach:

First, the sanity check happens before main(), and thus before the test
framework has started logging test results. This means that if the
sanity check aborts the test, the failure message will not be visible in
the test output if logging to a file or will cause the output to be
malformed if logging to the console in XML format.

Second, since Qt 4.7, the host lookup uses a class that connects to the
QCoreApplication instance, which doesn't exist before main(), and this
caused all tests that included network-settings.h to output an error
message from QObject::connect() at the beginning of the test.

Both of these problems are solved by removing the global object from
network-settings.h and instead performing the sanity check in the
initTestCase() function of each test.

924d810dbd Avoid using QSKIP in lieu of compile-time checks
QSKIP is intended to be used to skip test functions that are found at
run-time to be inapplicable or unsafe. If a test function can be
determined to be inapplicable at compile-time, the entire test function
should be omitted instead of replacing the body of the test function
with a QSKIP, which only serves to slow down test runs and to inflate
test run-rates with empty, inapplicable tests.

`make check' is intended primarily for running functional tests.

Also, the runtime for some of these benchmarks is quite long, and some
of them share the same name as existing functional tests. These are
problematic.
