4709c938db Apple: Add CFBundleAllowMixedLocalizations=YES to Info.plist files
We currently don't have any machinery for qmake or CMake to map
translations declared via TRANSLATIONS += or qt_add_translations
to the Info.plist CFBundleLocalizations key.

This results in macOS and iOS falling back to the development region,
CFBundleDevelopmentRegion, as the only supported localization of the
app, which is in most cases set to 'en'.

Unfortunately this doesn't work well with the behavior of iOS 11+
and macOS 10.13+ where the OS will set the locale of the app to
the best match between the app's supported localizations and the
user's preferred language.

https://developer.apple.com/library/archive/qa/qa1828/

Since we only support a single localization, the development region,
the locale always ends up as 'en_<REGION>', which after QTBUG-104930
is also reflected in the QLocale's uiLanguages(), resulting in the
QTranslator machinery always picking English translation for the app.

As long as we don't explicitly declare CFBundleLocalizations we need
to opt out of the system's behavior of finding the best match between
the app's declared localizations and the user's preferences, which we
can do via the CFBundleAllowMixedLocalizations key.

6db053139e Delete unsupported/freebsd-g++-46 mkspec
The freebsd-g++46 mkspec was intended to specifically use gcc 4.6 from
FreeBSD ports collection. However, the ports collection moves its
"standard" gcc version and uses symlinks to the standard commands
(e.g. gcc -> gcc48) on installing gcc. The current gcc in ports is
4.8.5, so the mkspec is not useful at all.

e28d31dbfa Move freebsd-g++ mkspecs back for supported FreeBSD 9.3 and up
FreeBSD 9.3 is still supported and uses gcc as the default
compiler, therefore FreeBSD ports require patching the mkspecs
back. To avoid patching, move the mkspecs back to the right
place and adapt the path in the qmake.conf/qplatformdefs.h

[ChangeLog][FreeBSD] The freebsd-g++ mkspec was moved back and no
longer requires the "unsupported/" prefix, matching the FreeBSD
ports tree, as FreeBSD 9.3 still defaults to using GCC. Users of
GCC that did not previously use the ports patch will need to adapt their
build scripts and drop the "unsupported/" prefix.

628d3b7d3a Swap the GCC and Clang versions of supported FreeBSD mkspecs
Modern FreeBSD doesn't come with GCC by default anymore and doesn't even
provide the "gcc" or "g++" falback that OS X does. So there's no point
in keeping the freebsd-clang mkspec in unsupported/ since it's the only
one that works, or keeping the freebsd-g++* ones outside, as they won't
compile.

I'm not removing the GCC mkspecs because you can still install GCC from
the ports tree.

[ChangeLog][FreeBSD] The "freebsd-clang" mkspec is no longer in the
unsupported/ subdir. If you have scripts you use to build Qt, you'll need to
update them to say -platform freebsd-clang or remove the -platform argument.

72ba0079c3 Add a linker version script to Qt libraries
This linker script is only enabled for systems with GCC or GCC-like
compilers, though technically it should work on the BSDs too (will
enable after testing). For regular modules, this declares one ELF
version "Qt_5" and places all QtCore symbols inside, then it declares
unused ELF versions "Qt_5.x" for each older minor release. For modules
declared "internal_module", all symbols are placed in version
Qt_5_PRIVATE_API.

The big advantage of an ELF version is that, when we do Qt 6, both
versions of QtCore could be loaded in memory without conflicts and all
symbols would be resolved to the correct library. No module can talk to
both at the same time, but this avoids mistakes of loading them
indirectly by plugins.

The extra Qt_5.x versions will be used in the next commit.

95d385466d centralize setup of shell-related variables in spec_post.prf
it makes no sense to let every spec do that separately, as it's fixed
by the generator+shell.

putting it into a file which is loaded regardless of the spec also
allows us to remove the hardcoded fallbacks from qmake.

if somebody overrode the values in their spec for some weird reasons,
they'll need to override spec_post.prf.

shell-{unix,win32}.conf are now dummies and print warnings.

Most of the settings there end up overwritten by the clang.conf include

QMAKE_LFLAGS_NOUNDEF was coming from g++-unix.conf, though, so we now
manually set it in freebsd-clang's qmake.conf.

f73a7ca46c Verify Xcode installation more thoroughly before relying on it
We depend on Xcode for building Qt itself and user application on Mac OS.
The user may have an Xcode install that is not set up properly, in which
case we would fail compilation in mysterious ways. Instead we try to
detect misconfigured or missing Xcode installs as early as possible.

We try to detect if an Xcode install has not been chosen yet, and
if the user has not accepted the Xcode license agreement. We need to
do these checks both in configure, as early as possible, and in mkspecs
on Mac OS, as we need to error out if the user tries to build an app
with the Qt SDK, but with a broken Xcode install.

5fcf441392 Fix '=' alignment and replace tabs in *.conf (whitespace only change)
Replace all tabs with proper space characters and consistently align
the '=' characters. The default alignment for the '=' of 25 characters
has been left as is to get a minimal diff. Lines with the '=' further
to the right and those belonging to 'proper code (TM)' have not been
touched.

The work was mostly done using the following python script (might
come in handy again...):

import sys, re
indent_eq = 25 + 0*4 # 25 characters was the most widely used indentation for the '=' character
p = re.compile(r'(\w+)[ \t]*([\-\+]?)(=$|= )[ \t]*(.*$)')

for fn in sys.argv[1:]:
    with open(fn, 'r+') as f:
        lines = []
        nl_count = 0
        continuity_indent = None
        for l in f:
            m = p.match(l)
            nl = l
            if m:
                n_spaces = max(m.start(3), indent_eq - 1) - len(m.group(2)) - len(m.group(1))
                if m.group(2) and m.start(2) >= indent_eq-1 and m.start(2) % 4 == 0:
                    n_spaces -= 1 # left-shift '+=' by one if the '+' is aligned to a multiple of 4
                n_spaces = max(1, n_spaces) # we want at least one space before '='/'+='
                nl = m.group(1) + ' '*n_spaces + ''.join(m.group(2,3,4)) + '\n'
                continuity_indent = nl.find('= ') + 2 if l[-2] == '\\' else None # remember indent on '\\$'
            elif continuity_indent:
                nl = ' '*continuity_indent + l.lstrip()
                if l[-2] != '\\': # check when to stop the continuation
                    continuity_indent = None
            elif l.startswith('#'):
                nl = l.expandtabs(2)
            if l != nl:
                nl_count += 1
            lines.append(nl)

b11317a643 Whitespace cleanup: remove trailing whitespace
Remove all trailing whitespace from the following list of files:
*.cpp *.h *.conf *.qdoc *.pro *.pri *.mm *.rc *.pl *.qps *.xpm *.txt *README
excluding 3rdparty, test-data and auto generated code.

Note A): the only non 3rdparty c++-files that still
have trailing whitespace after this change are:
* src/corelib/codecs/cp949codetbl_p.h
* src/corelib/codecs/qjpunicode.cpp
* src/corelib/codecs/qbig5codec.cpp
* src/corelib/xml/qxmlstream_p.h
* src/tools/qdoc/qmlparser/qqmljsgrammar.cpp
* src/tools/uic/ui4.cpp
* tests/auto/other/qtokenautomaton/tokenizers/*
* tests/benchmarks/corelib/tools/qstring/data.cpp
* util/lexgen/tokenizer.cpp

Note B): in about 30 files some overlapping 'leading tab' and
'TAB character in non-leading whitespace' issues have been fixed
to make the sanity bot happy. Plus some general ws-fixes here
and there as asked for during review.

d28073d9eb Distinguish between 'mac' and 'macx' qmake scopes
The former applies both on Mac OS X and iOS, but 'macx' is specific to
Mac OS X.

ios.conf and macx.conf now share most of their settings in the common
mac.conf. We set the default QMAKE_MAC_SDK before loading mac.conf, so
that any overrides in the device config will apply afterwards. This
means configure's mkspec parsing will be able to read the QMAKE_MAC_SDK.

d28f454a67 Rename gcc-base-macx.conf to gcc-base-mac.conf and use it for iOS as well
The only difference between the two is that iOS append @executable_path/
to QMAKE_LFLAGS_SONAME, but since shared libraries are not supported on
iOS anyways, this is not really something we have to care about.
