This approach is 5 to 20x faster than the existing version,
mostly by minimizing the number of back-and-forths, especially
in the vanilla JS Array case.

- direct peek into the (malloc'd buffer)
- quick copy (the src was a typed_array)
- slow copy (had to perform a per-element lookup)
