54256360ff [runtime] Don't stay const on store to field
This was a slightly overzealous optimization that ended up being more
tricky than expected without measurable value on the benchmarks (as far
as we know). Let's try to remove it and see whether an important
benchmark notices.

7b138dd30d [wasm] Compile debug code lazily
Currently V8 recompiles all functions of a WebAssembly module when a
debugging session starts. This is outdated behavior and
causes OOMs for developers. With this CL all compiled code just gets
removed when a debugging session starts, and debugging code gets
compiled lazily.

This behavior may lead to small delays whenever a new function gets
entered by the debugger. However, developers are used to debugging code
being slightly slower, and the small delays should be in the order of
few milliseconds. On the other hand, debug modules can be big,
sometimes even more than 1'000'000 functions, and developers reported
OOMs when debugging.

60d9dd3563 [d8] Make the profileEnd callback isolate-specific
The OnProfileEndListener callback has to be reset before the isolate
dies to avoid a use-after-free when the Global which holds the callback
gets released.

Drive-by change: make the OnProfileEndListener callback
isolate-specific. At the moment a `profileEnd` call in IsolateA could
trigger the OnProfileEndListener callback of IsolateB, which could
cause all kinds of data races (the callback would access the isolate,
but the isolate is not supposed to get accessed by multiple threads
concurrently. With this CL there is one callback per isolate.

The wasm export wrapper passes the expected type as a Smi parameter to
the {WasmJSToWasmObject} runtime function. However, since this wrapper

it is not enough to pass the module-specific type index and the module
to reconstruct the type. Rather, we must pass the canonical type

2ceed1a59e [wasm] Revalidate module after streaming error
This refactors how we generate any decoding errors during streaming
compilation: Instead of generating an error message, we only remember
that decoding failed. After all bytes have been received, we then
synchronously re-validate the bytes. This ensures consistent error
messages between all decoding and compilation pipelines.

In order to achieve this, we now unconditionally store the full wire
bytes in the {StreamingDecoder}. This partially overlaps with the
section buffers that we already store, but we cannot continue filling
section buffers after a decoder error. This will be cleaned up in a
follow-up CL.

We can also remove most of the buffer-offset tracking, which will also
be done in a follow-up.

Strings in shared space are always direct (i.e. they don't contain

b49cea5506 [turbofan] Fix incorrect length access on rab/gsab TypedArrays
When TurboFan generates code for TypedArray access for which we have
seen different ElementsKinds, we might end up accessing the TypedArray's
length directly when we are inlining into a call site where the
TypedArray is known. This access could also happen for ElementsKind
cases that are different from the actual TypedArray, which caused a
DCHECK failure for cases where length access is prohibited (e.g. for
rab/gsab backed TAs).
Since these cases are not reachable at runtime, this CL removes the
incorrect length access and generates an Unreachable node in the graph
instead.

6160fe9f40 [wasm][debug] Do lazy compilation after leaving debugging
Currently V8 recompiles all functions of a WebAssembly module with
TurboFan when a debugging session ends. This is outdated behavior and
causes OOMs for developers. With this CL all debugging code gets removed
when a debugging session ends, and functions get re-compiled lazily.

This behavior may lead to slightly worse performance for some time after
debugging finishes, but it avoids OOMs, and developers are used to
debugging code being not as performant as production code.

If a value is used after a try-block finishes, we need to make sure that

a63f9912b7 [maglev] Spill nodes that we'd otherwise fail to merge
This makes sure that catch-blocks don't accidentally drop values that
are only in registers, which can happen if we throw in deferred throwing
code (e.g., in ThrowReferenceErrorIfHole). At the latest we'll discover
such values when trying to merge after the catch block, noticing we
can't find the value through the catch-block. Unfortunately it's not
trivial to figure out where that merge happens, so we just
unconditionally spill the value.

For liveness holes (as the comment previously mentioned) the value
should already be dead and dropped on the merge. Running --maglev-stress
etc shows that no code currently hits this path, except for the added
test that shows the issue with catch blocks.

dbe5434a36 [wasm] Use size over capacity for types OOB checks
This fixes a bug where the {types} vector automatically reserved
additional space, and by comparing with its capacity we failed to
register an out-of-bounds error.
Using capacity over size has led to bugs before, and using it correctly
(reserving as much space as needed manually) prevents vectors from
reserving space exponentially. Therefore we are switching to using size
for bounds checks instead.

4c3e4e1109 [wasm] Add flag to allow more functions in a module
There exists a limit in the WebAssembly specification on the maximum
number of functions allowed in a module. For release builds the limit
seems high enough for now, but we got developer feedback that their
debug builds exceed this limit. To support these developers without
violating the specification this CL introduces a V8 flag that allows
to specify a custom limit. Developers can then increase this limit
locally for their debugging sessions.

Since we are already here also stop clearing OLD_TO_NEW and OLD_TO_OLD
since they should already be cleared at this stage of the GC. Add
DCHECKs that this always holds. We also don't need to iterate large

The stack object is primarily used for conservative stack scanning, both
by the V8 and C++ garbage collectors. This CL introduces the notion of a
"stack context", which comprises of the current stack marker (the lowest
address on the stack that may contain interesting pointers) and the
values of the saved registers. It simplifies the way in which iteration
through the stack is invoked: the context must have previously been
saved and iteration always uses the stack marker.

05a80427dc [wasm] Do not add too much code at once
Especially on arm64 we have a rather low code space limit (128MB), so it
can happen that a background thread generates more code in one batch
than can be held in a single code space. This case is not implemented
yet.

This CL implements this by never batch-adding more than half of a code
space.

In order to test the implementation, we add a new flag called
--wasm-max-code-space-size-mb which can be used to artificially lower
the code space size limits in tests.

eb2a44439e [maglev] Fix known type for HeapNumber CheckMaps
The condition clearing the "known HeapObject" bit was wrong -- it was
checking whether the _map_ was a HeapObject (spoiler alert, it is), not
whether it was the map _of_ a HeapObject, i.e. not a HeapNumberMap which
returns true for Smis.

cbe03f370e Fix handling of shift constants in Arm64 instruction selector
When a 32-bit binop operates on the result of a 64-bit shift, for
example the decoding of a BoundedSize, the previous code would attempt
to perform the shift as part of the 32-bit binop, failing a CHECK when
attempting to get the 32-bit shift constant. With this CL, the
instruction selector will now only attempt to perform the shift as part
of another binop if both operations are either 32-bit or 64-bit.

75dc4a9cf4 [wasm][atomics] Fix assumption
The assumption in {DecodeAtomicOpcode} (added in
https://crrev.com/c/3990654) is only true for valid opcodes. Since
Atomic opcodes are variable-length encoded, it's possible to create
out-of-bounds atomic opcodes which violate the assumption.

This CL fixes that by checking for such out-of-bounds opcodes early in
the method. This replaces the assumption, which the compiler can now
derive from the if-statement.

49afdd90b2 [wasm] Do bounds check before BigInt allocation in atomic.wait
A failing memory bounds check is a debugging event. At debugging events
the value stack is observable and therefore has to match the speced
value stack. In Atomic.Wait the value stack got modified before the
bounds. With this CL memory bounds check gets moved to the beginning.

ef1ac478bf [test] %PrepareFunctionForOptimization is permanent
Change the test helper, %PrepareFunctionForOptimization, to permanently
mark functions for manual optimization (rather than being marked only up
to their next optimization). These functions will now never be heuristic
optimized, and will always require tier-up via intrinsics.

This prevents variants with low interrupt budgets from messing with
tests that are carefully controlling optimization state across
multiple optimisations, as well as simplifying the mechanism since we
no longer have to maintain the state machine of 'function state'.

e7f6d34cfe [ic] Remove SameValue optimisation for constant fields
We would previously try to preserve field constness if field assignment
was assigning the same value. It's unexpected that real-life code would
be assigning the same value multiple times to an intentionally constant
field, so this was additional bookkeeping with unclear value.

Replace this with not doing it, and considering any write to a constant
field to convert it to mutable. In particular, this means that stores to
existing constant fields in TurboFan become unconditional deopts, rather
than emitting additional code to check whether the value is the same.

Locally, this deopt doesn't fire on our peak-performance benchmarks.

7eb43bf494 [turbofan] Decompose CheckBigInt64 and make it precise
This CL solves two problems:

- Eliminating redundant CheckBigInt/CheckBigInt64 by decomposing
  CheckBigInt64 to CheckBigInt and CheckedBigIntToBigInt64.
- Having precise checks for SignedBigInt64 to make the range of BigInt64
  consistent in CheckedBigInt64Ops and CheckedBigIntToBigInt64.
Otherwise, there would be semantic difference between the subgraphs
where we keep CheckBigInt64 inbetween two CheckedBigInt64Ops (e.g.,
the variant assert_types) and the subgraphs where we eliminate the
  checks.

bd590292b3 [turbofan] Optimize rab/gsab-backed TypedArrays and DataViews
This CL adds TurboFan optimizations for length and element access
of TypedArrays and DataViews that are rab/gsab-backed.

To enable this optimization, this CL builds the necessary machinery
required to allow machine operators at the front of the pipeline
(before simplified lowering). Some key changes to allow this are:
 - Introduce Type::Machine() to allow the typer and the verifier to
provide a type to those machine operators in parts of the pipeline
that require nodes to be typed.
 - Add EnterMachineGraph and ExitMachineGraph operators that define
the boundary between early machine graphs and the normal graph with
   JS semantics.
 - Give Branch operators a BranchSemantics parameter to distinguish
between machine branches (condition is a machine level value) and
JS branches (condition is a JS boolean value) and have phases that
handle branches decide on the branch's semantics based on this
parameter instead of the position in the pipeline.
 - Extend SimplifiedLowering and SimplifiedLoweringVerifier to handle
machine graphs. In particular, constants required special handling,
because they are cached in the graph but they may have uses in both
a machine and the JS graph, which prevents consistent typing of
   them.
 - Moved lots of logic from JSCallReducerAssembler into
[JS]GraphAssembler such that functionality can be shared between
   different phases (e.g. JSNativeContextSpecialization and
JSCallReducer need to generate logic to compute a TypedArray's
byte length). Extended assembler interface in general with
   additional TNode<> overloads.

60dfddf03c [heap][test] Fix code coverage tests for conservative stack scanning
Code coverage tests invoke garbage collection, to test that coverage
data is not reclaimed by the garbage collector and that the native
%DebugTogglePreciseCoverage works as intended. One of them tests that
garbage collection indeed reclaims the coverage data, if the above
native is not used. When conservative stack scanning is used, this may
fail.

This CL fixes the tests, ensuring that a precise garbage collection
will be invoked, without scanning the stack. To achieve this, the
garbage collection is invoked not with %CollectGarbage but by using
--expose-gc and the asynchronous execution mode, which ensures that
it will be invoked from the event loop without a stack.

8c7c087812 [heap] Make stack thread-local and introduce stack markers
This CL makes the object keeping stack information thread-local, moving
it from Heap to ThreadLocalTop. In this way, stack scanning will work
correctly when switching between threads, e.g., using v8::Locker.

It also introduces a mechanism for setting a stack marker, to be used
for scanning only the part of stack between its start and the marker
(instead of the current stack top).
