f370d60711 [test] Add verbose output of flaky tests
The verbose output shown on bots didn't print the first failing result
of a flaky test before. Now the result line shows all results and
the details in the end show the output of the first failure.

Previously it was confusing as it seemed that the json results and
the test runner output differed.

We now print PASS in all caps like the other statuses. A test for
this case already existed and the output is now updated.

c21d0148d6 [testrunner] Implicitly detect trivial flag contraditions
This changes the test runner to automatically treat cases in which
both a flag and its negation are present as a flag contradiction.
Example: "--foo --no-foo".

With this change it's no longer necessary to explicitly specify these
trivial contraditions in variants.py.

Note: since negations are created through simple string operations,
bogus constructions are possible ("--nobodys-perfect" ->
"--bodys-perfect"). We accept these as unlikely-to-cause-problems.

ee56a9863e [test] Run heavy tests sequentially
This adds a new status file indicator "HEAVY" to mark tests with high
resource demands. There will be other tests running in parallel,
but only a limited number of other heavy tests. The limit is
controlled with a new parameter --max-heavy-tests and defaults to 1.

The change also marks a variety of tests as heavy that recently had
flaky timeouts. Heavy also implies slow, hence heavy tests are
executed at the beginning with a higher timeout like other slow tests.

The implementation is encapsulated in the test-processor chain. A
new processor buffers heavy tests in a queue and adds buffered tests
only if other heavy tests have ended their computation.

54d84cf385 [wasm-c-api] Cache CapiCallWrappers in the NativeModule
We used to recompile WasmCapiCallWrappers whenever they were
needed, but never garbage-collected them, which caused a memory
leak when many short-lived instances of the same module were
created. This patch makes the wrappers cacheable and caches them,
which avoids both repeated compilation effort and the unbounded
memory growth.
Drive-by cleanup: unify WasmCapiFunctionData with the other
Wasm*FunctionData classes by making it inherit from WasmFunctionData.

8590942c84 [foozzie] Prioritize reporting differences with x64 if present
tldr: This adds an on-demand comparison with x64 when a difference to
a non-x64 build is detected.

Normally foozzie compares the baseline build (just ignition), with
two secondary builds. One, the default, always uses the shipping
configuration, the second passes additional flags. Both can use a
different architecture than the baseline build as well.

Differences between ignition and turbofan are then often detected
independent of the architectures used, but reported several times
(for each compared architecture).

This makes the reporting more specific, by running another build on
demand that uses the baseline architecture, but otherwise the same
configuration that showed a difference. If it shows the difference as
well, the baseline architecture is used for the report.

As a result only pure architecture differences will be reported with
an architecture other than x64.

This also adds some minor refactorings to reduce the code complexity
when looping over comparisons.

For testing this, the fake-d8s are extended with different behavior
for different flags passed. We add two test cases for testing:
x64 vs. ia32 with difference in x64 and ia32
x64 vs. ia32 with difference only in ia32

8807f0ad48 [tools] More Python 3 compatibility fixes
These should all be forward/backward compatible with Python 2/Python 3.

[tools] Tweak statusfile.py for Python 3

.iteritems() does not exist in Python 3, only .items().

(While .iteritems() was meant to be an optimization over .items()
in Python 2, .items() should work fine, and it is forward/backward
compatible.)

[tools] Fix another Python 3 issue in mb.py

sys.platform used to return e.g. 'linux2', which is 'linux' plus
whatever the first digit of `uname -r` was when Python was built.
As of Python 3.3, it always returns just 'linux' for Linux OSes.
Use `sys.platform.startswith('linux')` for forward/backward
compatibility.

[tools] Make base_runner.py Python 3 compatible

dict.keys() returns a dict_keys in Python 3, whereas it
used to return a simple array. list() is forward/backward
compatible with identical results on Python 2/3 (returns array).

(Tested on Linux x64, trying to recreate NodeJS's CI workflow.)

[tools] Make tools/dev/v8gen.py work with Python 3

dict.keys() returns a dict_keys in Python 3, whereas it
used to return a simple array. list() is forward/backward
compatible with identical results on Python 2/3 (returns array).

Comparing a None-type value numerically used to result in the
None-type value always being considered "less than" the thing
it is compared to. As of Python 3, numerically comparing against
None or None-typed values results in an error. Check if a value
is truthy before numerically comparing it, for forward/backward
compatibility.

print() used to transparently decode byte strings in Python 2.
In Python 3, they must be explicitly decoded first.

(Tested on Linux 64-bit, trying to recreate NodeJS's CI workflow.)

that may be eliminatable in the future.

3ada6f2740 [ptr-cage] Introduce PtrComprCage
The pointer compression cage is the virtual memory reservation
that all compressed pointers fall within. This CL splits pointer
compression into two modes: a per-Isolate cage and a shared cage
among multiple Isolates.

When multiple Isolates are sharing a cage, they can decompress
each others' pointers and share the same virtual memory range.

5e0b94c4dc Allowing map word to be used for other state in GC header.
This CL adds features to pack/unpack map words.

Currently V8 cannot store extra metadata in object headers -- because V8
objects do not have a proper header, but only a map pointer at the start
of the object. To store per-object metadata like marking data, a side
table is required as the per-object metadata storage.

This CL enables V8 to use higher unused bits in a 64-bit map word as
per-object metadata storage. Map pointer stores come with an extra step
to encode the metadata into the pointer (we call it "map packing").
Map pointer loads will also remove the metadata bits as well (we call it
"map packing").

Since the map word is no longer a valid pointer after packing, we also
change the tag of the packed map word to make it looks like a Smi. This
helps various GC and barrier code to correctly skip them instead of
blindly dereferencing this invalid pointer.

A ninja flag `v8_enable_map_packing` is provided to turn this
map-packing feature on and off. It is disabled by default.

* Only works on x64 platform, with `v8_enable_pointer_compression`
  set to `false`

e28dadc207 [ptr-cage] Rename IsolateRoot to PtrComprCageBase
Currently, IsolateRoot is both the address of the Isolate root and the
base address of the pointer compression reservation. This CL teases the
two uses apart by renaming IsolateRoot to PtrComprCageBase.

- In addition to V8_COMPRESS_POINTERS, add a
  V8_COMPRESS_POINTERS_IN_ISOLATE_CAGE (vs SHARED_CAGE).

- Rename GetIsolate* helpers to GetPtrComprCageBase. When
V8_COMPRESS_POINTERS_IN_ISOLATE_CAGE is true, the helpers remain as
  aliases to GetPtrComprCageBase.

- Rename kPtrComprIsolateRootAlignment to kPtrComprCageBaseAlignment.

Also add an entry for contradictory flags, and reformat that list to

One of the x86 ISA extensions is confusingly named SSSE3 (*Supplemental*

This CL adds testing coverage for x86 CPUs that support SSE3

these CPUs, and they are used by a non-trivial amount of Chrome's users
on Windows. This CL aims to cover all the spots missed by

80f5dfda01 [no-wasm] Exclude src/wasm from compilation
This is the biggest chunk, including
- all of src/wasm,
- torque file for wasm objects,
- torque file for wasm builtins,
- wasm builtins,
- wasm runtime functions,
- int64 lowering,
- simd scala lowering,
- WasmGraphBuilder (TF graph construction for wasm),
- wasm frame types,
- wasm interrupts,
- the JSWasmCall opcode,
- wasm backing store allocation.

Those components are all recursively entangled, so I found no way to
split this change up further.

Some includes that were recursively included by wasm headers needed to
be added explicitly now.

backing-store-unittest.cc is renamed to wasm-backing-store-unittest.cc
because it only tests wasm backing stores. This file is excluded from
no-wasm builds then.

e383d76c0c [build] Support Linux-arm64 builds hosts
Building arm64 binaries on arm64 hosts works as long as you set
the correct options in args.gn. This patch teaches gm.py to do
that.
Building 32-bit arm binaries on arm64 hosts requires an extra
definition in snapshot_toolchain.gni (as well as some system
setup to support running 32-bit binaries).

90a66422b7 Remove 'length' field from ScopeInfo
This change relands the last part of https://crrev.com/c/2601880 .

ScopeInfo has a vestigial 'length' field from when it used to be a
FixedArray. This change removes that field, which saves some memory.

More specifically:

- Make ScopeInfo inherit from HeapObject, not FixedArrayBase which
  supplied the 'length' field.
- Change FactoryBase::NewScopeInfo to allocate the updated object shape.
It maintains the existing behavior of filling the newly-allocated
object with undefined, even though that's not a valid ScopeInfo and
  further initialization is required.
- Change a few length computations to use HeapObject::kHeaderSize rather
  than FixedArray::kHeaderSize.
- Remove an unnecessary heap verifier function.

76a302f97d [gm.py] Fix goma detection

Note: this only affects new args.gn files created by gm.py. On
machines where the build is already set up, this has no effect.

8890bb21f9 [no-wasm] Remove wasm debugging support
This removes all wasm includes from src/debug and src/inspector if
webassembly is disabled (v8_enable_webassembly=false). It also removes
the definition of {WasmValueObject} and {v8::debug::WasmScript}.
This will allow to later fully exclude the src/wasm directory from
compilation (once other components are fixed).

00abcea4af [build] Create v8_internal_headers target
Split out all the headers from v8_compiler/v8_compiler_opt and
v8_base_without_compiler into v8_internal_headers since the headers
have inter-dependencies that otherwise make it impossible to satisfy gn
check.

Also adds new v8_header_set torque_runtime_support that exports
src/torque/runtime-support.h separately from the generated headers.

This reduces the number of gn check failures from 169 to 59.
