53d4dfc377 [sfi] Compress function arg counts to 16 bit
Compress the parameter count (and function length) stored in
SharedFunctionInfo to a uint16_t. This limits us to 2^16 - 1 parameters
per function, minus one for the "don't adapt arguments" sentinel value,
which is one fewer than Code::kMaxArguments was already. Anyway, 65534
arguments should be enough for anyone!

This drops SFI size by 4 bytes.

df2419039c Fix a Jumbo breakage
see crbug.com/841460 , we recently hit some build issues when using
Goma + jumbo builds because of a conflict on the definition of CONST,
v8 defines it in globals.h and including windows.h also defines it. It
should be possible to fix this by adding a bunch of #undef CONST but it
seems a little bit hacky and might not always work (this could only fix
the problem temporary if the jumbo merge limit changes and cause some
include files to get included in a different order).

Renaming the v8 definition of CONST to kConst, this follows the
style guide guidelines: "there is no reason to change old code to use
constant-style names, unless the old names are actually causing a
compile-time problem"
(https://google.github.io/styleguide/cppguide.html#Enumerator_Names)

I also had to turn the PropertyConstness enum into an enum class to
avoid some conflicts (both PropertyConstness and VariableMode define
kConst).

ea7499f5da [generators] Store parameters in the generator object.
Currently, we context allocate all parameters for generators.

With this CL, we keep arguments on stack (unless they escape to inner
closure) and copy them between the stack and the generator's register
file on suspend/resume. This will save context allocation in most cases.

Note: There is an asymmetry between suspend and resume.
- Suspend copies arguments and registers to the generator.
- Resume copies only the registers from the generator, the arguments
  are copied by the ResumeGenerator trampoline.

There is also no overall performance regression on peak-performance

39496a95c5 Replace Context::closure with Context::scope_info, allowing closure to die.
There are likely cleanups that can be done after this CL:
- context-related functions in the interpreter and compiler take ScopeInfo as
well as ScopeType and slot-count as input. The latter 2 should be directly
derived from the former. We should be able to drop FunctionContextParameters.
- ContextExtension is probably not needed anymore, since we now always have the
correct scope_info directly in the SCOPE_INFO_INDEX slot.

f53dfd934d Replace array index masking with the poisoning approach.
The idea is to mark all the branches and loads participating in array
bounds checks, and let them contribute-to/use the poisoning register.
In the code, the marks for array indexing operations now contain
"Critical" in their name. By default (--untrusted-code-mitigations),
we only instrument the "critical" operations with poisoning.

With that in place, we also remove the array masking approach based
on arithmetic.

Since we do not propagate the poison through function calls,
we introduce a node for poisoning an index that is passed through
function call - the typical example is the bounds-checked index
that is passed to the CharCodeAt builtin.

Most of the code in this CL is threads through the three levels of
protection (safe, critical, unsafe) for loads, branches and flags.

There are various situations where we explicitly compare a SMI against
another SMI (e.g., BuildIndexedJump). This is also a common pattern for

of using the generic equality/strict-equality stub for this, which is
expensive, this CL offers a simple comparison stub, repurposing the

ada64b58bf interpreter: make interpreted frames distinguishable in the native stack
Before Turbofan/Ignition it was possible to use external profilers to
sample running V8/Node.js processes and generate reports/FlameGraphs
from that. It's still possible to do so, but non-optimized JavaScript
functions appear in the stack as InterpreterEntryTrampoline. This commit
adds a runtime flag which makes interpreted frames visible on the
process' native stack as distinguishable functions, making the sampled
data gathered by external profilers such as Linux perf and DTrace more
useful.

There is no good reason to have the meat of most objects' initialization

this CL changes the protocol between Heap and Factory to be AllocateRaw,
and all object initialization work after (possibly retried) successful
raw allocation happens in the Factory.

f9a2e24bbc [cleanup] Refactor the Factory
There is no good reason to have the meat of most objects' initialization
logic in heap.cc, all wrapped by the CALL_HEAP_FUNCTION macro. Instead,
this CL changes the protocol between Heap and Factory to be AllocateRaw,
and all object initialization work after (possibly retried) successful
raw allocation happens in the Factory.

This saves about 20KB of binary size on x64.

7b29fe434d Rename Code::instruction_{start,end,size} functions
In order to clarify the difference between, e.g., InstructionStart and
instruction_start, rename as follows:

Code::instruction_start -> raw_instruction_start
Code::instruction_end   -> raw_instruction_end
Code::instruction_size  -> raw_instruction_size

The difference between the camel-case and raw_* function families is
in how they handle off-heap-trampoline Code objects. For example, when
called on an off-heap-trampoline: raw_instruction_start returns the
trampoline's entry point, while InstructionStart returns the off-heap
code's entry point (located in the .text section of the binary).

Some callsites were updated to call the camel-case function family as
appropriate.

3a0419a635 [Compiler] Split up Unoptimized/Optimized CompilationInfo and CompilationJobs
With the Ignition + Turbofan pipeline there is very little overlap between the data
needed for unoptimized compilation and optimized compilation. As a result, it is
cleaner to split up the CompilationInfo into UnoptimizedCompilationInfo and
OptimizedCompilationInfo.

Doing so also necessitate splitting up CompilationJob into UnoptimizedCompilationJob
and OptimizedCompilationJob - again there is not much overlap so this seems cleaner.

1ef6c4374e [turbofan] unify interpreter and JIT speculation poisoning
This CL changes the poisoning in the interpreter to use the
infrastructure used in the JIT.

This does not change the original flag semantics:

--branch-load-poisoning enables JIT mitigations as before.

--untrusted-code-mitigation enables the interpreter mitigations
  (now realized using the compiler back-end), but does not enable
  the back-end based mitigations for the Javascript JIT. So in effect
  --untrusted-code-mitigation makes the CSA pipeline for bytecode handlers
  use the same mechanics (including changed register allocation) that
  --branch-load-poisoning enables for the JIT.

b8229612bf Reland "[esnext] re-implement template strings"
- Add a new bytecode for the ToString operation, replacing the old
intrinsic call (currently does not collect type feedback).
- Add a new AST node to represent TemplateLiterals, and avoid
generating unnecessary ToString operations in some simple cases.
- Use a single feedback slot for each string addition, because the
type feedback should always be the same for each addition

This seems to produce a very slight improvement on JSTests benchmarks
and bench-ruben.js from v8:7415, and it's possible that type feedback
for the ToString bytecode could provide more opportunities to eliminate
the runtime call in TurboFan.

Doesn't touch tagged templates

7e45e961b2 [parsing,interpreter] Use StoreInArrayLiteral IC for array rest pattern.
This removes the last use of %AppendElement (and the function itself),
which was in the pattern rewriter's code for destructuring assignment
with an array rest pattern. In its place, it introduces a
StoreInArrayLiteral AST node that corresponds to the StoreInArrayLiteral
bytecode (which in turn corresponds to the StoreInArrayLiteral IC).

- Add a new AST node to represent TemplateLiterals, and avoid
generating unnecessary ToString operations in some simple cases.
- Use a single feedback slot for each string addition, because the

This seems to produce a very slight improvement on JSTests benchmarks
and bench-ruben.js from v8:7415, and it's possible that type feedback
for the ToString bytecode could provide more opportunities to eliminate
the runtime call in TurboFan.

fafd1cdd35 Move exception handler table into instruction stream.
This changes the encoding of the {HandlerTable} from an array of Smi
values to a byte array. It allows embedding of said array into the
instruction stream of {Code} objects (similar to how safepoint tables
work). For interpreted bytecode the table is attached as a {ByteArray}
to the bytecode.

The advantage of this approach is a more compact encoding and also the
ability to move such tables easily off the GC'ed heap if needed (as is
done for WebAssembly code for example).

aff1f3788b [cleanup] Introduce a dedicated FeedbackCell.
This is preparatory cleanup work for eventually tracking the functions
(rather than concrete closures) in the CALL_IC, also for builtins like
the default PromiseCapability [[Resolve]] and [[Reject]] functions. It
adds a new FeedbackCell type, which is used by JSFunctions consistently
now to reference the feedback vector (or undefined if not the function
is not compiled yet or is a native/asm.js function).

This also changes the calling convention for FastNewClosure builtin and
the JSCreateClosure operator in TurboFan to carry the FeedbackCell here
instead of the parent FeedbackVector and the slot index. In addition we
eliminate the now unused %InterpreterNewClosure runtime function.

e56eac022f [esnext] fix tagged template caching strategy for eval caching
Previously, eval caching was only disabled if the root eval body code
contained a tagged template. Per discussion on
https://github.com/tc39/ecma262/pull/890, this is incorrect.

This change tracks if eval caching is allowed during parsing, and
uses this information to decide to insert
new entries into the cache, or not.

This change also removes the TemplateObject feedback kind, as it's no
longer needed (behaves the same as Literal feedback).

c041296189 [builtins] Refactor the promise resolution and rejection logic.
This introduces dedicated builtins

  - FulfillPromise,
  - RejectPromise, and
  - ResolvePromise,

which perform the corresponding operations from the language
specification, and removes the redundant entry points and the
excessive inlining of these operations into other builtins. We
also add the same logic on the C++ side, so that we don't need
to go into JavaScript land when resolving/rejecting from the
API.

The C++ side has a complete implementation, including full support
for the debugger and the current PromiseHook machinery. This is to
avoid constantly crossing the boundary for those cases, and to also
simplify the CSA side (and soon the TurboFan side), where we only
do the fast-path and bail out to the runtime for the general handling.

On top of this we introduce %_RejectPromise and %_ResolvePromise,
which are entry points used by the bytecode and parser desugarings
for async functions, and also used by the V8 Extras API. Thanks to
this we can uniformly optimize these in TurboFan, where we have
corresponding operators JSRejectPromise and JSResolvePromise, which
currently just call into the builtins, but middle-term can be further
optimized, i.e. to skip the "then" lookup for JSResolvePromise when
we know something about the resolution.

In TurboFan we can also already inline the default PromiseCapability
[[Reject]] and [[Resolve]] functions, although this is not as effective
as it can be right now, until we have inlining support for the Promise
constructor (being worked on by petermarshall@ right now) and/or SFI
based CALL_IC feedback.

Overall this change is meant as a refactoring without significant
performance impact anywhere; it seems to improve performance of
simple async functions a bit, but otherwise is neutral.

d3ca0d0050 [esnext] implement spec change to TaggedTemplate callsite caching
Implements the change outlined in https://github.com/tc39/ecma262/pull/890,
which has been ratified and pulled into the specification. In particular,
template callsite objects are no longer kept in a global, eternal Map, but
are instead associated with their callsite, which can be collected. This
prevents a memory leak incurred by TaggedTemplate calls.

Changes, summarized:

    - Remove the TemplateMap and TemplateMapShape objects, instead caching
      template objects in the feedback vector.
    - Remove the `hash` member of TemplateObjectDescriptor, and the Equals
      method (used by TemplateMap)
    - Add a new FeedbackSlotKind (kTemplateObject), which behaves similarly
      to FeedbackSlotKind::kLiteral, but prevents eval caching. This ensures
      that a new feedback vector is always created for eval() containing tagged
      templates, even when the CompilationCache is used.
    - GetTemplateObject bytecode now takes a feedback index, and only calls
      into the runtime if the feedback is Smi::kZero (uninitialized).

a021b6c42d [Ignition] [TurboFan] Generate speculation poison in code generator.
Moves generation of speculation poison to be based on the PC target vs the
actual PC being executed. The speculation poison is generated in the prologue
of the generated code if CompilationInfo::kGenerateSpeculationPoison is set.
The result is stored in a known register, which can then be read using the
SpeculationPoison machine node.

Currently we need to ensure the SpeculationPoison node is scheduled right after
the code prologue so that the poison register doesn't get clobbered. This is
currently not verified, however it's only use is in RawMachineAssembler where
it is manually scheduled early.

The Ignition bytecode handlers are updated to use this speculation poison
rather than one generated by comparing the target bytecode.

This change does not modify generated bytecode (but maybe it should to
take advantage of load IC feedback for loading "next"). Doing this grows
bytecode by quite a bit, since it's necessary to throw-if-not-an-object

291dc3cd1f [Feedback Vector] Coalesce Nexii to Feedback Nexus.
The FeedbackNexus classes initially were one-to-one with IC classes,
but over time this got out of date. We also found Nexus' useful, so
we made more classes even for cases that weren't ICs.

The inheritence and polymorphism became confusing and led to
duplication. Better, to just talk about a (single) FeedbackNexus.

c869d40d5a [ignition] Single-switch generator bytecode
Currently, yields and awaits inside loops compile to bytecode which
switches to the top of the loop header, and switch again once inside the
loop. This is to make loops reducible.

This replaces this switching logic with a single switch bytecode that
directly jumps to the bytecode being resumed. Among other things, this
allows us to no longer maintain the generator state after the switch at
the top of the function, and avoid having to track loop suspend counts.

TurboFan still needs to have reducible loops, so we now insert loop
header switches during bytecode graph building, for suspends that are
discovered to be inside loops during bytecode analysis. We do, however,
do some environment magic across loop headers since we know that we will
continue switching if and only if we reached that loop header via a
generator resume. This allows us to generate fewer phis and tighten
liveness.

2d889aa9a4 Reland "[esnext] load iterator.next only once at beginning of iteration"
https://github.com/tc39/ecma262/pull/988 gained concensus during the
september 2017 TC39 meetings. This moves the load of the "next" method
to the very beginning of the iteration protocol, rather than during
each iteration step.

This impacts:

- yield*
- for-of loops
- spread arguments
- array spreads

In the v8 implementation, this also affects async iteration versions of
these things (the sole exception being the Async-From-Sync iterator,
which requires a few more changes to work with this, likely done in a
followup patch).

This change introduces a new AST node, ResolvedProperty, which can be used
as a callee by Call nodes to produce the same bytecode as Property calls,
without observably re-loading the property. This is used in several
AST-desugarings involving the iteration protocol.

93b3397e52 [es6/cleanup]: re-implement ES6 array spreads in BytecodeGenerator
This gets rid of all the RewriteNonPattern gunk in the parser and
expression classifier, and removes one use of RewritableExpression.

This borrows pieces from several other CLs of mine which are currently
open, and includes a new and modernized abstraction for dealing with
iterators in BytecodeGenerator (so, this CL adds that, moves code from
BuildGetIterator around, and makes some minor changes to yield* which
should maintain compatability with the old behaviour).

This also implements a portion of the changes to the iteration protocol
(implemented fully in
https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/c/v8/v8/+/687997), but only for
the spread operator in Array Literals (the rest will follow).

b97567a976 No longer desugar the exponentiation (**) operator.
Prior to this change, the exponentiation operator was rewritten by the
parser to a call of the Math.pow builtin. However, Math.pow does not
accept BigInt arguments, while the exponentiation operator must accept
them.

This CL
- removes the parser's special treatment of ** and **=, treating them
  like any other binary op instead.
- adds a TFC builtin Exponentiate that does the right thing for
  all inputs.
- adds interpreter bytecodes Exp and ExpSmi whose handlers call the
  Exponentiate builtin. For simplicity, they currently always collect
  kAny feedback.
- adds a Turbofan operator JSExponentiate with a typed-lowering to
  the existing NumberPow and a generic-lowering to the Exponentiate
  builtin. There is currently no speculative lowering.

Note that exponentiation for BigInts is actually not implemented yet,
so we can't yet test it.

4ca9d843f8 [class] Store class fields initializer on the constructor
Previously, the class fields initializer function was stored on a
synthetic context allocated variable. This approach had sevaral
problems:

- We didn't know that class literal had fields until after we had
completely parsed the class literal. This meant that we had to go back
and fix up the scope of the constructor to have this synthetic
variable. This resulted in mismatch between parser and preparsed scope
data.

- This synthetic variable could potentially resolve to an initializer
of an outer class.

For ex:
class X extends Object {
  c = 1;
  constructor() {
    var t = () => {
      class P extends Object {
        constructor() {
          var t = () => { super(); };
          t();
        }
      }
      super();
    }
    t();
  }
}

In this the inner class P could access the outer class X's initiliazer
function. We would have to maintain extra metadata to make sure this
doesn't happen.

Instead this new approach uses a private symbol to store the
initializer function on the class constructor itself.

For the base constructor case, we can simply check for a bit on the
constructor function literal to see if we need to emit code that loads
and calls this initializer function. Therefore, we don't pay the cost
of loading this function in case there are no class fields.

For the derived constructor case, there are two possiblities:
(a) We are in a super() call directly in the derived constructor:

In this case we can do a check similar to the base constructor check,
we can check for a bit on the derived constructor and emit code for
loading and calling the initializer function.

This is usually the common case and we don't pay any cost for not using
class fields.

(b) We are in a super() call inside an arrow function in the derived
constructor:

In this case, we /always/ emit code to load and call the initializer
function. If the function doesn't exist then we have undefined and we
don't call anything. Otherwise we call the function.

super() can't be called twice so even if we emit code to load and call
the initializer function multiple times, it doesn't matter because it
would have already been an error.

ff4e4ab4b6 [Ast] Teach Ast Printer to print raw literal values.
Converts the ast prettyprinter to printing literals from the raw values
rather than internalized on-heap strings. This enables ast printing before
internalizing, and means we can avoid use of the isolate in the interpreter's
off-thread phase.

Also removes --print-builtin-ast and relies on just --print-ast to print
everything.

Finally, converts FunctionLiteral's debug_name function to return a
char[] which is created from the raw name literal where it exists, rather
than relying on the value having been internalized.

c82cd31325 Drop custom accessor deoptimization support
Previously StaNamedProperty and StaKeyedProperty were in a weird state where
they claimed to not touch the accumulator, but actually did in case they were
deopted in the middle. A frame was added in the middle to overwrite the
accumulator again with the right value before returning from the setter, using
a lot of complexity in the deoptimizer.

This changes those instructions to be marked as writing to the accumulator
(e.g., the result of the setter), and uses to manually store and reload into
the accumulator the value being stored.

If we want to avoid the additional bytecodes, we could make sure that bytecodes
that claim to leave the accumulator alone don't deopt back to Advance/Dispatch
but LoadAccumulatorWithValue/Advance/Dispatch. That's in a way similar to what
happened before this CL, but I believe could be implemented much simpler.
