961f4d0ce6 Correct compilation breakage of r63832. 
wx/setup.h can't use wxCHECK_VISUALC_VERSION() which is defined in
wx/platform.h _after_ wx/setup.h inclusion.

Replace wxCHECK_VISUALC_VERSION() with manual tests for _MSC_VER.

Also add more comments to explain what's going on.

cde23b64b5 Allow using wxGraphicsContext with MinGW if gdiplus.h is available. 
MinGW doesn't include gdiplus.h but it can be installed independently by the
user. Allow to use it if it's available:

- Include windows.h when checking for it in configure as this is apparently
  needed for its compilation.
- Don't reset wxUSE_GRAPHICS_CONTEXT to 0 for non-Microsoft compilers, instead
  just define it as 0 by default for them, allowing the user to simply change
  the definition in wx/msw/setup.h.

Closes #11892.

9b7e022676 Add wxUSE_UIACTIONSIMULATOR and turn it off by default. 
Disable the recently added wxUIActionSimulator class until the issues with it
mentioned at http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lib.wxwidgets.devel/119792/
are fixed.

Also use "" around wx headers instead of <> in wx code itself.

See #11801.

49e714e127 Fix wxTlsValue<> memory leaks. 
Win32 API doesn't provide pthreads-like destructors, so we need to
emulate them to free per-thread allocated memory.

98fbab9e7b Refactor owner-drawing code. 
Only keep common code in the base class and extract all menu/listbox-specific
stuff into derived classes.

This makes the code cleaner and more maintainable but introduces some problems
in wxCheckListBox appearance which will be fixed by the next patch.

Closes #10635.

a12bd55b0d Enable wxGraphicsContext and related classes by default if supported. 
For MSW, check for gdiplus.h availability when using configure but only
support it for MSVC 7+ otherwise. For the other platforms, always support it.

6b8ef0b35d Merge SOC2009_FSWATCHER branch into trunk. 
Merges everything from the branch with only some minor changes, mostly renamed
wxUSE_FSWATCHER_{INOTIFY,KQUEUE} to wxHAS_{INOTIFY,KQUEUE}.

Add wxFileSystemWatcher and related classes.

Also introduces wxEventLoopSource.

ab06470e49 Add wxDEBUG_LEVEL to wx/setup.h and document it. 
Under Unix wxDEBUG_LEVEL can be set using configure --enable-debug=max option
but under Windows it needs to be changed in wx/msw/setup.h so add it to this
file with a comment explaining its meaning.

Also document this symbol with the other preprocessor constants.

03647350fc No changes, just removed hard tabs and trailing white space. 
This commit is huge but there are no non-white-space changes in it.

Some files containing third-party sources (src/msw/wince/time.cpp,
src/x11/pango*.cpp) were left unchanged.

6bcc1145fe Cleanly separate GUI socket-related code from net library. 
This fixes linking problems under Unix introduced by recent changes which
fixed previous problems which were due to files not being linked in at all.

In order to provide a clean separation between base, net and core libraries we
now use the same wxSocketManager (wxSocketFDBasedManager), defined in net
library for both console and GUI Unix applications and just use different FD
IO manager for them: the latter can be defined in base and core libraries as
it doesn't involve wxSocketImpl at all, only its base wxFDIOHandler class.

At more detailed level, these changes required:
 1. Adding the new wxFDIOManager class.
 2. Refactoring the old (and now removed) wxSocketFDIOManager to use the same
    code as wxSocketFDIOManager. This involved:
  a) Adding handler and direction parameter to RemoveInput().
  b) Storing the mask of registered events in wxFDIOHandler itself.
  c) Defining wxFDIOManagerUnix which works with wxFDIODispatcher.
 3. Changing the traits classes in Unix ports to define GetFDIOManager()
    instead of GetSocketManager().

d48b06bd90 check in the 'selective yield' patch (see ticket #10320): 
- implements YieldFor() with event filtering for wxMSW and wxGTK,
  adds TODO markers in other ports;
- replaces wxYield() in GTK's clipboard code with a wxTheApp->YieldFor() call, thus fixing possible reentrancies 
(and modifies clipboard sample to test synchronous IsSupported calls)
- replaces wxYieldIfNeeded() calls in wxProgressDialog with wxTheApp->YieldFor() calls, so that it processes only 
UI/user-input events, thus fixing the race condition visible in the "thread" sample
- documents the new functions

51fe4b60ab Streamline wxSocket code: wxSocketBase now uses wxSocketImpl (previously known 
as GSocket) which is a base class with various wxSocketImplXXX implementations
provided by different wxSocketManagers.

Share more code between ports (still not finished).

Refactor some code inside wxSocketImpl itself to be less redundant and fixed a
couple of minor bugs in the process.

fdaad94e75 deprecate wxDC::SetClippingRegion(wxRegion) overload and replace it with SetDeviceClippingRegion() to avoid confusion due to use of different kind of coordinates in this and other overloads of the same function; also rename wxDCImpl::DoSetClippingRegionAsRegion() to DoSetDeviceClippingRegion(); finally use bounding box of the region passed to wxDCClipper ctor to avoid interpreting coordinates differently for different ctors of the same class (see #8970)
