2dcc908538 Add pthread_getname_np and pthread_setname_np for Hurd
We use thread_get_name and thread_set_name to get and set the thread
name, so nothing is stored in the thread structure since these functions
are supposed to be called sparingly.

One notable difference with Linux is that the thread name is up to 32
chars, whereas Linux's is 16.

Also added a mach_RPC_CHECK to check for the existing of gnumach RPCs.

64c7e34428 arm: Update _dl_tlsdesc_dynamic to preserve caller-saved registers (BZ 31372)
ARM _dl_tlsdesc_dynamic slow path has two issues:

  * The ip/r12 is defined by AAPCS as a scratch register, and gcc is
used to save the stack pointer before on some function calls. So it
should also be saved/restored as well. It fixes the tst-gnu2-tls2.

  * None of the possible VFP registers are saved/restored. ARM has the
additional complexity to have different VFP bank sizes (depending of
    VFP support by the chip).

The tst-gnu2-tls2 test is extended to check for VFP registers, although
only for hardfp builds. Different than setcontext, _dl_tlsdesc_dynamic
does not have HWCAP_ARM_IWMMXT (I don't have a way to properly test
it and it is almost a decade since newer hardware was released).

With this patch there is no need to mark tst-gnu2-tls2 as XFAIL.

3ca9f43d10 Stop checking if MiG supports retcode.
We already did the same change for Hurd
(https://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/hurd/hurd.git/commit/?id=ef5924402864ef049f40a39e73967628583bc1a4)

Due to MiG requiring the subsystem to be defined early in order to know the
size of a port, this was causing a division by zero error during ./configure.
We could have just move subsystem to the top of the snippet, however it is
simpler to just remove the check given that we have no plans to use some other
MiG anyway.

HAVE_MIG_RETCODE is removed completely since this will be a no-op either
way (compiling against old Hurd headers will work the same, new Hurd
headers will result in the same stubs since retcode is a no-op).

ec6d2b83f2 C-SKY: Strip hard float abi from hard float feature.
The hard float abi and hard float are different,
Hard float abi: Use float register to pass float type arguments.
Hard float: Enable the hard float ISA feature.
So the with_fp_cond cannot represent these two features. When
-mfloat-abi=softfp, the float abi is soft and hard float is enabled.
So add 'with_hard_float_abi' in preconfigure and define 'CSKY_HARD_FLOAT_ABI'
if float abi is hard, and use 'CSKY_HARD_FLOAT_ABI' to determine
dynamic linker because it is what determines compatibility.
And with_fp_cond is still needed to tell glibc whether to enable
hard floating feature.
In addition, use AC_TRY_COMMAND to test gcc to ensure compatibility
between different versions of gcc. The original way has a problem
that __CSKY_HARD_FLOAT_FPU_SF__ means the target only has single
hard float-points ISA, so it's not defined in CPUs like ck810f.

b46d250656 Remove kernel version check
The kernel version check is used to avoid glibc to run on older
kernels where some syscall are not available and fallback code are
not enabled to handle graciously fail. However, it does not prevent
if the kernel does not correctly advertise its version through
vDSO note, uname or procfs.

Also kernel version checks are sometime not desirable by users,
where they want to deploy on different system with different kernel
version knowing the minimum set of syscall is always presented on
such systems.

The kernel version check has been removed along with the
LD_ASSUME_KERNEL environment variable. The minimum kernel used to
built glibc is still provided through NT_GNU_ABI_TAG ELF note and
also printed when libc.so is issued.

098a657fe4 elf: Replace PI_STATIC_AND_HIDDEN with opposite HIDDEN_VAR_NEEDS_DYNAMIC_RELOC
PI_STATIC_AND_HIDDEN indicates whether accesses to internal linkage

need dynamic relocations (usually R_*_RELATIVE). PI (position
independent) in the macro name is a misnomer: a code sequence using GOT
is typically position-independent as well, but using dynamic relocations
does not meet the requirement.

Not defining PI_STATIC_AND_HIDDEN is legacy and we expect that all new

a78e6a10d0 i386: Remove broken CAN_USE_REGISTER_ASM_EBP (bug 28771)
The configure check for CAN_USE_REGISTER_ASM_EBP tried to compile a
simple function that uses %ebp as an inline assembly operand. If
compilation failed, CAN_USE_REGISTER_ASM_EBP was set 0, which
eventually had these consequences:

(1) %ebx was avoided as an inline assembly operand, with an
assembler macro hack to avoid unnecessary register moves.
(2) %ebp was avoided as an inline assembly operand, using an
out-of-line syscall function for 6-argument system calls.

(1) is no longer needed for any GCC version that is supported for
building glibc. %ebx can be used directly as a register operand.
Therefore, this commit removes the %ebx avoidance completely. This
avoids the assembler macro hack, which turns out to be incompatible
with the current Systemtap probe macros (which switch to .altmacro
unconditionally).

(2) is still needed in many build configurations. The existing
configure check cannot really capture that because the simple function
succeeds to compile, while the full glibc build still fails.
Therefore, this commit removes the check, the CAN_USE_REGISTER_ASM_EBP
macro, and uses the out-of-line syscall function for 6-argument system
calls unconditionally.

23645707f1 Replace --enable-static-pie with --disable-default-pie
Build glibc programs and tests as PIE by default and enable static-pie
automatically if the architecture and toolchain supports it.

Also add a new configuration option --disable-default-pie to prevent
building programs as PIE.

Only the following architectures now have PIE disabled by default
because they do not work at the moment. hppa, ia64, alpha and csky
don't work because the linker is unable to handle a pcrel relocation
generated from PIE objects. The microblaze compiler is currently
failing with an ICE. GNU hurd tries to enable static-pie, which does
not work and hence fails. All these targets have default PIE disabled
at the moment and I have left it to the target maintainers to enable PIE
on their targets.

build-many-glibcs runs clean for all targets. I also tested x86_64 on
Fedora and Ubuntu, to verify that the default build as well as
--disable-default-pie work as expected with both system toolchains.

ebae2f5a6f Add build option to disable usage of scv on powerpc
Commit 68ab82f566 added support for the scv
syscall ABI on powerpc. Since then systems that have kernel and processor
support started using scv. However adding the proper support for a new syscall
ABI requires changes to several other projects (e.g. qemu, valgrind, strace,
kernel), which are gradually receiving support.

Meanwhile, having a way to disable scv on glibc at build time can be useful for
distros that may encounter conflicts with projects that still do not support the
scv ABI, buying time until proper support is added.

This commit adds a --disable-scv option that disables scv support and uses sc
for all syscalls, like before commit 68ab82f566.

0923f74ada Support for multiple versions in versioned_symbol, compat_symbol
This essentially folds compat_symbol_unique functionality into
compat_symbol.

This change eliminates the need for intermediate aliases for defining
multiple symbol versions, for both compat_symbol and versioned_symbol.
Some binutils versions do not suport multiple versions per symbol on
some targets, so aliases are automatically introduced, similar to what
compat_symbol_unique did. To reduce symbol table sizes, a configure
check is added to avoid these aliases if they are not needed.

The new mechanism works with data symbols as well as function symbols,
due to the way an assembler-level redirect is used. It is not
compatible with weak symbols for old binutils versions, which is why
the definition of __malloc_initialize_hook had to be changed. This
is not a loss of functionality because weak symbols do not matter
to dynamic linking.

The placeholder symbol needs repeating in nptl/libpthread-compat.c
now that compat_symbol is used, but that seems more obvious than
introducing yet another macro.

A subtle difference was that compat_symbol_unique made the symbol
global automatically. compat_symbol does not do this, so static
had to be removed from the definition of
__libpthread_version_placeholder.

339bf918ea x86: Set minimum x86-64 level marker [BZ #27318]
Since the full ISA set used in an ELF binary is unknown to compiler,
an x86-64 ISA level marker indicates the minimum, not maximum, ISA set
required to run such an ELF binary. We never guarantee a library with
an x86-64 ISA level v3 marker doesn't contain other ISAs beyond x86-64
ISA level v3, like AVX VNNI. We check the x86-64 ISA level marker for
the minimum ISA set. Since -march=sandybridge enables only some ISAs
in x86-64 ISA level v3, we should set the needed ISA marker to v2.
Otherwise, libc is compiled with -march=sandybridge will fail to run on
Sandy Bridge:

$ ./elf/ld.so ./libc.so
./libc.so: (p) CPU ISA level is lower than required: needed: 7; got: 3

Set the minimum, instead of maximum, x86-64 ISA level marker should have
no impact on the glibc-hwcaps directory assignment logic in ldconfig nor

micro-architecture ISA level required to execute the binary. The marker
must be added by programmers explicitly in one of 3 ways:

1. Pass -mneeded to GCC.
2. Add the marker in the linker inputs as this patch does.
3. Pass -z x86-64-v[234] to the linker.

Add GNU_PROPERTY_X86_ISA_1_BASELINE and GNU_PROPERTY_X86_ISA_1_V[234]
marker support to ld.so if binutils 2.32 or newer is used to build glibc:

1. Add GNU_PROPERTY_X86_ISA_1_BASELINE and GNU_PROPERTY_X86_ISA_1_V[234]
markers to elf.h.
2. Add GNU_PROPERTY_X86_ISA_1_BASELINE and GNU_PROPERTY_X86_ISA_1_V[234]
marker to abi-note.o based on the ISA level used to compile abi-note.o,
assuming that the same ISA level is used to compile the whole glibc.
3. Add isa_1 to cpu_features to record the supported x86 ISA level.
4. Rename _dl_process_cet_property_note to _dl_process_property_note and
add GNU_PROPERTY_X86_ISA_1_V[234] marker detection.
5. Update _rtld_main_check and _dl_open_check to check loaded objects
with the incompatible ISA level.
6. Add a testcase to verify that dlopen an x86-64-v4 shared object fails
on lesser platforms.
7. Use <get-isa-level.h> in dl-hwcaps-subdirs.c and tst-glibc-hwcaps.c.

Tested under i686, x32 and x86-64 modes on x86-64-v2, x86-64-v3 and
x86-64-v4 machines.

Marked elf/tst-isa-level-1 with x86-64-v4, ran it on x86-64-v3 machine
and got:

[hjl@gnu-cfl-2 build-x86_64-linux]$ ./elf/tst-isa-level-1
./elf/tst-isa-level-1: CPU ISA level is lower than required

3378408987 config: Allow memory tagging to be enabled when configuring glibc
This patch adds the configuration machinery to allow memory tagging to be
enabled from the command line via the configure option --enable-memory-tagging.

The current default is off, though in time we may change that once the API
is more stable.

5500cdba40 Remove --enable-obsolete-rpc configure flag
Sun RPC was removed from glibc. This includes rpcgen program, librpcsvc,
and Sun RPC headers. Also test for bug #20790 was removed
(test for rpcgen).

Backward compatibility for old programs is kept only for architectures
and ABIs that have been added in or before version 2.28.

libtirpc is mature enough, librpcsvc and rpcgen are provided in
rpcsvc-proto project.

NOTE: libnsl code depends on Sun RPC (installed libnsl headers use
installed Sun RPC headers), thus --enable-obsolete-rpc was a dependency
for --enable-obsolete-nsl (removed in a previous commit).

The arc ABI list file has to be updated because the port was added
with the sunrpc symbols

ae7a94e5e3 Remove --enable-obsolete-nsl configure flag
this means that *always* libnsl is only built as shared library for
backward compatibility and the NSS modules libnss_nis and libnss_nisplus
are not built at all, libnsl's headers aren't installed.

This compatibility is kept only for architectures and ABIs that have
been added in or before version 2.28.

Replacement implementations based on TIRPC, which additionally support
IPv6, are available from <https://github.com/thkukuk/>.

This change does not affect libnss_compat which does not depended
on libnsl since 2.27 and thus can be used without NIS.

libnsl code depends on Sun RPC, e.g. on --enable-obsolete-rpc (installed
libnsl headers use installed Sun RPC headers), which will be removed in
the following commit.

9e1751e6d6 aarch64: configure check for pac-ret code generation
Return address signing requires unwinder support, which is
present in libgcc since >=gcc-7, however due to bugs the
support may be broken in <gcc-10 (and similarly there may
be issues in custom unwinders), so pac-ret is not always
safe to use. So in assembly code glibc should only use
pac-ret if the compiler uses it too. Unfortunately there
is no predefined feature macro for it set by the compiler
so pac-ret is inferred from the code generation.

1b0a4f58f5 aarch64: configure test for BTI support
Check BTI support in the compiler and linker. The check also
requires READELF that understands the BTI GNU property note.
It is expected to succeed with gcc >=gcc-9 configured with
--enable-standard-branch-protection and binutils >=binutils-2.33.

Note: passing -mbranch-protection=bti in CFLAGS when building glibc
may not be enough to get a glibc that supports BTI because crtbegin*
and crtend* provided by the compiler needs to be BTI compatible too.

9e38f455a6 x86: Add --enable-cet=permissive
When CET is enabled, it is an error to dlopen a non CET enabled shared
library in CET enabled application. It may be desirable to make CET
permissive, that is disable CET when dlopening a non CET enabled shared
library. With the new --enable-cet=permissive configure option, CET is
disabled when dlopening a non CET enabled shared library.

Add DEFAULT_DL_X86_CET_CONTROL to config.h.in:

/* The default value of x86 CET control. */
 #define DEFAULT_DL_X86_CET_CONTROL cet_elf_property

which enables CET features based on ELF property note.

--enable-cet=permissive it to

/* The default value of x86 CET control. */
 #define DEFAULT_DL_X86_CET_CONTROL cet_permissive

which enables CET features permissively.

Update tst-cet-legacy-5a, tst-cet-legacy-5b, tst-cet-legacy-6a and
