d7d08bdede Direct __ppc_get_timebase to __builtin_ppc_get_timebase for GCC 4.8+. 
Adapts __ppc_get_timebase to the upcoming GCC 4.8 that provides
__builtin_ppc_get_timebase.  Building applicationns with previous
versions of GCC will continue to use the internal implementation.

d6cffd3ec0 PowerPC: Fix uc_link == NULL handling for makecontex. 
If the function registered with makecontext returns with a NULL context
link the process should exit with zero, not non-zero.

47cc1490e0 Invoke DL_AFTER_LOAD if defined 
This hook is useful for any arch-specific functionality that
should be done on loaded objects.  For the tile architecture,
the hook is already provided (though we switch to using the new
macro name with this commit) and implements a simulator notifier
so that the simulator can load Elf symbols to match the object
and generate better error messages for PC's.

Also, remove a spurious definition of DL_UNMAP in dl-runtime.c

017678433c Suppress incorrect link warnings for NSS symbols 
When glibc is built with --enable-static-nss, the warning that
using NSS symbols requires the nss shared objects to be present
is no longer true, as those symbols are built into libc.  Suppress
the warning for those symbols by providing a new macro
(nss_interface_function) for the NSS functions that is defined as
static_link_warning in the normal case, and empty for static NSS.

60457d8a25 manual: delete nested @cartouche 
Putting @cartouche inside of @smallexample does not work with HTML output
as the former produces a <table> while the latter produces a <pre>.  You
cannot nest a <table> in a <pre> as the contents are no longer formatted.

Since it's entirely unnecessary, and none of the other examples do this,
just drop the cartouche.

0cae3f4b03 change ifunc assembly test to a link test 
The test currently tests the binutils frontend support which passes for
all versions of binutils we currently require (2.20+).  It doesn't test
the backend which is required for ifunc to actually work, and which most
targets don't yet support.

Change the assembly code so that when we link it, we get a file that has
ifunc relocations if the backend supports it.  That way we can test to
see if binutils supports everything we need.

55f115345a Makerules (check-abi-%): force C locale when running objdump 
abilist.awk relies on English-language output to find the "file
format" header line in "objdump --dynamic-syms" output, so force the
locale.

Without this change, "make check" fails in non-English locales:

fc997c6e55 nscd: fix compilation flags 
Commit 61653dfb81 added support for
compilers predefining _FORTIFY_SOURCE by adding -U_FORTIFY_SOURCE to
CPPFLAGS for these compilers, but that change doesn't work quite well in
case of nscd: its Makefile sets _FORTIFY_SOURCE using CFLAGS instead of
CPPFLAGS and, thanks to compilation rules defined in Makerules, CPPFLAGS
are passed to compiler after CFLAGS, resulting to a build with
_FORTIFY_SOURCE turned off.

This change implements a more safe method of passing preprocessor and
compiler flags so that no nscd modules could be accidentally forgotten.

9fab36eb58 Shrink heap on linux when overcommit_memory == 2 
Using madvise with MADV_DONTNEED to release memory back to the kernel
is not sufficient to change the commit charge accounted against the
process on Linux.  It is OK however, when overcommit is enabled or is
heuristic.  However, when overcommit is restricted to a percentage of
memory setting the contents of /proc/sys/vm/overcommit_memory as 2, it
makes a difference since memory requests will fail.  Hence, we do what
we do with secure exec binaries, which is to call mmap on the region
to be dropped with MAP_FIXED. This internally unmaps the pages in
question and reduces the amount of memory accounted against the
process.

f3fd569c36 rtld: limit self loading check to normal mode only 
Commit glibc-2.14~10 disallowed rtld self loading to avoid a segfault
that used to happen when rtld was loading itself in normal mode.
Unfortunately, that commit disallowed all modes of self loading,
including those that used to work before.  This change limits the check
for self loading to normal mode only, so that instruments like ldd could
handle rtld properly.
