I used these shell commands:
../glibc/scripts/update-copyrights $PWD/../gnulib/build-aux/update-copyright
(cd ../glibc && git commit -am"[this commit message]")
and then ignored the output, which consisted lines saying "FOO: warning:
copyright statement not found" for each of 7061 files FOO.
I then removed trailing white space from math/tgmath.h,
support/tst-support-open-dev-null-range.c, and
sysdeps/x86_64/multiarch/strlen-vec.S, to work around the following
obscure pre-commit check failure diagnostics from Savannah. I don't
know why I run into these diagnostics whereas others evidently do not.
remote: *** 912-#endif
remote: *** 913:
remote: *** 914-
remote: *** error: lines with trailing whitespace found
...
remote: *** error: sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/statx_cp.c: trailing lines
We stopped adding "Contributed by" or similar lines in sources in 2012
in favour of git logs and keeping the Contributors section of the
glibc manual up to date. Removing these lines makes the license
header a bit more consistent across files and also removes the
possibility of error in attribution when license blocks or files are
copied across since the contributed-by lines don't actually reflect
reality in those cases.
Move all "Contributed by" and similar lines (Written by, Test by,
etc.) into a new file CONTRIBUTED-BY to retain record of these
contributions. These contributors are also mentioned in
manual/contrib.texi, so we just maintain this additional record as a
courtesy to the earlier developers.
The following scripts were used to filter a list of files to edit in
place and to clean up the CONTRIBUTED-BY file respectively. These
were not added to the glibc sources because they're not expected to be
of any use in future given that this is a one time task:

Similar to powerpc, mips also issues rt_sigreturn for setcontext
case the v0 value saved is not the one set by setcontext or
makecontext. As for powerpc, it is intention is no really supported
since setcontext is not async-signal-safe.
Checked the context tests on mips64-linux-gnu and mips-linux-gnu.
* sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/mips/getcontext.S (__getcontext): Remove
the magic flag store.
* sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/mips/makecontext.S (__makecontext):
Likewise.
* sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/mips/swapcontext.S (__swapcontext):
Likewise.
* sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/mips/setcontext.S (__setcontext):
Remove rt_sigreturn call.
General purpose registers in mcontext_t structure
are 8 bytes long for both MIPS32/MIPS64.
get/set/make/swap context implementations for MIPS O32
incorrectly assume that general purpose registers
in this structure are 4 bytes long.
This patch is fixing that.
Tested for MIPS O32 LE and BE.
Compared objdump of modified functions for mips n32 and mips n64.
[BZ #21548]
* sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/mips/getcontext.S: Define MCONTEXT_SZGREG as
8 and use it when copying general purpose registers.
* sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/mips/makecontext.S: Likewise.
* sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/mips/mips32/Makefile: Include new test for
mips o32.
* sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/mips/mips32/bug-getcontext-mips-gp.c: Added
new test for mips o32.
* sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/mips/setcontext.S: Define MCONTEXT_SZGREG as
8 and use it when copying general purpose registers.
* sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/mips/swapcontext.S: Likewise.
I've moved the MIPS port from ports to the main sysdeps hierarchy.
Beyond the README update, the move of the files was simply
git mv ports/sysdeps/mips sysdeps/mips
git mv ports/sysdeps/unix/mips sysdeps/unix/mips
git mv ports/sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/mips sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/mips
and in addition to the ChangeLog entries here, I put a note at the top
of ports/ChangeLog.mips similar to those in other files.
Tested that disassembly of installed shared libraries for mips is the
same before and after this patch (except for ld.so where paths in
assertions are involved, as for arm).
* sysdeps/mips: Move directory from ports/sysdeps/mips.
* sysdeps/unix/mips: Move directory from ports/sysdeps/unix/mips.
* sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/mips: Move directory from
