[BZ #22243] fix log2(0) and log(10) in downward rounding

Use libm_alias_double for dbl-64 modf.
This patch makes dbl-64 modf use libm_alias_double. Both the dbl-64 and dbl-64/wordsize-64 versions are changed, and the ldbl-opt version is changed to define the libc compat symbol only. Because of multiarch wrappers, the changed implementations are made not to define aliases at all if __modf is defined as a macro, as with other functions, so avoiding duplicate compat symbols while allowing those wrappers to be simplified. Use libm_alias_double for dbl-64 frexp.
This patch makes dbl-64 frexp use libm_alias_double. Both the dbl-64 and dbl-64/wordsize-64 versions are changed; the ldbl-opt version is made to define only the libc frexpl compat symbol, now the generic code handles the libm compat symbol automatically. Use libm_alias_double for more dbl-64 functions.
This patch makes more dbl-64 functions use libm_alias_double to define function aliases. Specifically, it makes the change for functions with dbl-64/wordsize-64 versions, changing both the dbl-64 and dbl-64/wordsize-64 versions and removing the ldbl-opt wrappers. Functions are excluded from this patch if there are complications because of versions of those functions also present in libc, or architecture-specific wrappers round these files. Tested for x86_64, and with build-many-glibcs.py. Use libm_alias_double for some dbl-64 functions.
Continuing the move of libm aliases to common macros that can create _FloatN / _FloatNx aliases in future, this patch converts some dbl-64 functions to using libm_alias_double, thereby eliminating the need for some ldbl-opt wrappers. This patch deliberately limits what functions are converted so that it can be verified by comparison of stipped binaries. Specifically, atan and tan are excluded because they first need converting to being weak aliases; fma is omitted as it has additional complications with versions in other directories (removing the ldbl-opt version can e.g. cause the ldbl-128 version to be used instead of dbl-64); and functions that have both dbl-64/wordsize-64 and ldbl-opt versions are excluded because ldbl-opt currently always wraps dbl-64 function versions, so changing those will result in platforms using both ldbl-opt and dbl-64/wordsize-64 (i.e. alpha) starting to use the dbl-64/wordsize-64 versions of those functions (which is good, as an optimization, but still best separated from the present patch to get better validation). Fix nearbyint arithmetic moved before feholdexcept (bug 22225).
In <https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2013-05/msg00722.html> I remarked on the possibility of arithmetic in various nearbyint implementations being scheduled before feholdexcept calls, resulting in spurious "inexact" exceptions. I'm now actually observing this occurring in glibc built for ARM with GCC 7 (in fact, both copies of the same addition/subtraction sequence being combined and moved out before the conditionals and feholdexcept/fesetenv pairs), resulting in test failures. This patch makes the nearbyint implementations with this particular feholdexcept / arithmetic / fesetenv pattern consistently use math_opt_barrier on the function argument when first used in arithmetic, and also consistently use math_force_eval before fesetenv (the latter was generally already done, but the dbl-64/wordsize-64 implementation used math_opt_barrier instead, and as math_opt_barrier's intended effect is through its output value being used, such a use that doesn't use the return value is suspect). Tested for x86_64 (--disable-multi-arch so more of these implementations get used), and for ARM in a configuration where I saw the problem scheduling. Make more libm functions into weak aliases.
Many libm functions define the function as __<func> and then define <func> as a weak alias. This is not at all limited to cases where there is an internal call that has namespace reasons to need to call __<func> instead of <func>. The common macros for creating libm function aliases work on the basis of public function names all being aliases; that is, they define aliases for functions using the above pattern. Thus, where a function just defines the public name <func> directly, changing that to be a weak alias enables a subsequent conversion to the common macros to retain the exact existing symbols (and so be testable by comparison of stripped binaries). This patch converts many existing functions to use the weak alias pattern, as preparation for subsequent conversions to common macros. I do expect that _FloatN/_FloatNx function aliases will end up needing new variants of the common macros that do *not* create the original float / double / long double name of a function - for cases where that name is created specially to give it a particular symbol version, for example - but for functions that can use the most common macros to create all the public names as aliases, it makes sense for them to do so. Regarding the Bessel function wrappers in this patch: only float and double wrappers are changed because the long double wrappers already used the weak alias pattern. Consistently use uintN_t not u_intN_t in libm.
This patch changes libm code to make consistent use of C99 uintN_t types instead of sometimes using those and sometimes using the older nonstandard u_intN_t names. This makes sense as a cleanup in its own right, and also facilitates merges to GCC's libquadmath (which gets the types from stdint.h and so may not have u_intN_t available at all). Add roundeven, roundevenf, roundevenl.
TS 18661-1 defines roundeven functions that round a floating-point number to the nearest integer, in that floating-point type, with ties rounding to even (whereas the round functions round ties away from zero). As with other such functions, they raise no exceptions apart from "invalid" for signaling NaNs. There was a previous user request for this functionality in glibc in <https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-help/2015-02/msg00005.html>. This patch implements these functions for glibc. The implementations use integer bit-manipulation (or roundeven on the high and low parts, in the IBM long double case). It's possible that there may be faster approaches on some architectures (in particular, on AArch64 the frintn instruction should do exactly what's required); I'll leave it to architecture maintainers or others interested to implement such architecture-specific versions if desired. (Where architectures have instructions to round to nearest integer in the current rounding mode, implementations saving and restoring the rounding mode - and dealing with exceptions if those instructions generate "inexact" - are also possible, though their performance depends on the cost of manipulating exceptions / rounding mode state.) Add setpayload, setpayloadf, setpayloadl.
TS 18661-1 defines functions for manipulating the payloads of NaNs. This patch implements the setpayload functions for glibc; these set a number (pointed to by a function argument) to a quiet NaN with the given payload, or to +0 if the given payload is not valid. The implementations are structured to allow the substance of the implementation to be shared with the setpayloadsig functions when those are added. The semantics in the TS are not entirely clear in the case where the payload passed to the function is zero (see discussion on the WG14 reflector last month). This patch implements what seems the most sensible interpretation, that -0 is never valid to give as the payload, but +0 is valid in the case where the kind of NaN being generated has its high mantissa bit set so payload 0 is actually possible in such a NaN. Add getpayload, getpayloadf, getpayloadl.
TS 18661-1 defines functions for manipulating the payloads of NaNs. This patch implements the getpayload functions for glibc; these extract the NaN payload (from an argument passed as a pointer, for which corresponding libm-test support is added) and return it in the same floating-point type. The return value of these functions is unspecified for non-NaN arguments; the patch does the simplest thing to implement, which is that the functions do not check whether the argument is a NaN and just treat the relevant bits of the representation as a payload regardless. A conversion from integer to floating-point is used to produce the required return value, except in the ldbl-128 case; as 128-bit integers are not supported for all configurations using ldbl-128, the code constructs the required floating-point representation of the return value directly instead. Define HIGH_ORDER_BIT_IS_SET_FOR_SNAN to 0 or 1.
This patch moves the HIGH_ORDER_BIT_IS_SET_FOR_SNAN macro from being defined or undefined to the preferred convention of always being defined, to either 0 or 1, so allowing typo-proof tests with #if. The macro is moved from math_private.h to a new header nan-high-order-bit.h to make it easy for all architectures to define, either through the sysdeps/generic version of the header or through providing their own version of the header, without needing #ifndef in the generic math_private.h to give a default definition. The move also allows the macro to be used without needing math_private.h to be included; the immediate motivation of this patch is to allow tests to access this information (to know what kinds of NaNs 0 is a valid payload for) without needing to include math_private.h. Existing C level rather than preprocessor conditionals at all, but this patch does not make such a change). Add totalorder, totalorderf, totalorderl.
TS 18661-1 defines totalorder functions implementing the totalOrder comparison operation from IEEE 754-2008. This patch implements these functions for glibc, including the type-generic macro in <tgmath.h>. (The totalordermag functions will be added in a separate patch.) The description of the totalOrder operation is complicated. However, for IEEE interchange binary formats and the preferred quiet NaN convention, what that complicated description means is that you interpret the representation as a sign-magnitude integer (with -0 coming before +0) and do a <= comparison on that interpretation. For finite values and infinities the ordering of the sign-magnitude integers is just the same as the ordering of floating-point values, so this extends that to all representations. (Different representations of the same floating-point value - which includes same quantum in the decimal case - must still be considered equal by this operation, but that issue doesn't arise for IEEE interchange binary formats.) So the complications are: * When MIPS quiet NaN conventions are in use, the representation of NaNs needs adjusting before making such an integer comparison. This patch does this adjustment only when both arguments are NaNs, as there's no need for it if only one is a NaN, and as long as both are NaNs you can just flip the relevant bits without any problems from this turning a NaN into an infinity. * For the m68k version of ldbl-96, where the high mantissa bit is "don't care" for infinities and NaNs, representations where it differs must compare the same. Note: although the testcase for this compiles, I have not actually tested on m68k. * For ldbl-128ibm, the low part must be ignored when the high part is NaN, and low parts of +0 and -0 must be considered the same whatever the high part. The new tests in libm-test.inc are the first tests there specifying particular payloads for input NaNs. Separate tests are also added for the ldbl-96 and ldbl-128ibm special cases where there are different representations of the same value that must compare equal (which can't be covered in libm-test.inc as that only specifies values, not representations). sparc64: add a VIS3 version of ceil, floor and trunc
sparc64 passes floating point values in the floating point registers. As the the generic ceil, floor and trunc functions use integer instructions, it makes sense to provide a VIS3 version consisting in the the generic version compiled with -mvis3. GCC will then use movdtox, movxtod, movwtos and movstow instructions. sparc32 passes the floating point values in the integer registers, so it doesn't make sense to do the same. Do not raise "inexact" from generic round (bug 15479).
C99 and C11 allow but do not require ceil, floor, round and trunc to raise the "inexact" exception for noninteger arguments. TS 18661-1 requires that this exception not be raised by these functions. This aligns them with general IEEE semantics, where "inexact" is only raised if the final step of rounding the infinite-precision result to the result type is inexact; for these functions, the infinite-precision integer result is always representable in the result type, so "inexact" should never be raised. The generic implementations of ceil, floor and round functions contain code to force "inexact" to be raised. This patch removes it for round functions to align them with TS 18661-1 in this regard. The tests *are* updated by this patch; there are fewer architecture-specific versions than for ceil and floor, and I fixed the powerpc ones some time ago. If any others still have the issue, as shown by tests for round failing with spurious exceptions, they can be fixed separately by architecture maintainers or others. Fix __finitel libm compat symbol version.
The changes to restrict implementation-namespace symbol aliases such as __finitel to compat symbols used code for __finitel in libm analogous to that for __finitel in libc. math: add LDBL_CLASSIFY_COMPAT support
If a platform does not define "long-double-fcts = yes" in its Makefiles and it does define __NO_LONG_DOUBLE_MATH in its installed headers, it will currently create exported symbols for __finitel, __isinfl, and __isnanl that can't be reached from userspace by correct use of the finite(), isinf(), or isnan() macros in <math.h>. To avoid this situation, by default for such platforms we now no longer export these symbols, thus causing appropriate link-time errors. However, for platforms that previously exported these symbols, we continue to do so as compat symbols; this is enabled by adding LDBL_CLASSIFY_COMPAT to math_private.h for the platform. For tile, remove the now-unnecessary exports of those functions from libc and libm. |

Fix lround, llround missing exceptions close to overflow threshold (bug 19088).
The dbl-64, ldbl-96 and ldbl-128 implementations of lround and llround fail to produce "invalid" exceptions in cases where the rounded result overflows the target type, but truncating the floating-point argument to the next integer towards zero does not overflow it (so in particular casts do not produce such exceptions). (This issue cannot arise for float, or for double with 64-bit target type, or for ldbl-96 with 64-bit target type and negative arguments, because of insufficient precision in the floating-point type for arguments with the relevant property to exist.) This patch fixes these problems by inserting checks for the special cases that can occur in each implementation, and explicitly raising FE_INVALID (and avoiding the cast if it might raise spurious FE_INEXACT). Don't use dbl-64/wordsize-64 lround based on llround for ILP32 (bug 19079).
The implementation of lround in dbl-64/wordsize-64 as an alias or wrapper for llround is always incorrect when long is not 64-bit, because it misses required exceptions in overflow cases, as shown by my recently added tests. Make scalbn set errno (bug 6803).
As noted in bug 6803, scalbn fails to set errno on overflow and underflow. This patch fixes this by making scalbn an alias of ldexp, which has exactly the same semantics (for floating-point types with radix 2) and already has wrappers that deal with setting errno, instead of an alias of the internal __scalbn (which ldexp calls). Notes: * Where compat symbols were defined for scalbn functions, I didn't change what they point to (to keep the patch minimal), so such compat symbols continue to go directly to the non-errno-setting functions. * Mike, I didn't do anything with the IA64 versions of these functions, where I think both the ldexp and scalbn functions already deal with setting errno. As a cleanup (not needed to fix this bug) however you might want to make those functions into aliases for IA64; there is no need for them to be separate function implementations at all. * This concludes the fix for bug 6803 since the scalb and scalbln cases of that bug were fixed some time ago. Fix expm1 missing underflows (bug 16353).
Similar to various other bugs in this area, some expm1 implementations do not raise the underflow exception for subnormal arguments, when the result is tiny and inexact. This patch forces the exception in a similar way to previous fixes. (The issue does not apply to the ldbl-* implementations or to those for x86 / x86_64 long double. The change to sysdeps/ieee754/dbl-64/wordsize-64/e_cosh.c is one I missed when previously fixing bug 16354; the bug in that implementation was previously latent, but the expm1 fixes stopped it being latent and so required it to be fixed to avoid spurious underflows from cosh.) Fix sign of remquo zero remainder in round-downward mode (bug 17987).
Various remquo implementations produce a zero remainder with the wrong sign (a zero remainder should always have the sign of the first argument, as specified in IEEE 754) in round-downward mode, resulting from the sign of 0 - 0. This patch checks for zero results and fixes their sign accordingly. Tested for x86_64, x86, mips64 and powerpc. Fix remquo spurious overflows (bug 17978).
Various remquo implementations, when computing the last three bits of the quotient, have spurious overflows when 4 times the second argument to remquo overflows. These overflows can in turn cause bad results in rounding modes where that overflow results in a finite value. This patch adds tests to avoid the problem multiplications in cases where they would overflow, similar to those that control an earlier multiplication by 8. Tested for x86_64, x86, mips64 and powerpc. Fix dbl-64/wordsize-64 remquo (bug 17569).
The dbl-64/wordsize-64 remquo implementation follows similar logic to various other implementations, but where that logic computes some absolute values, it wrongly uses a previously computed bit-pattern for the absolute value of the first argument, where actually it needs the absolute value of the first argument mod 8 times the second. This patch fixes it to compute the correct absolute value. The integer quotient result of remquo is only specified mod 8 (including its sign); architecture-specific versions may well vary in what results they give for higher bits of that result (and indeed bug 17569 gives an example correct result from __builtin_remquo giving 9 for that result, where the particular glibc implementation used in that bug report would give 1 after this fix). Thus, this patch adapts the tests of remquo to test that result only mod 8, to allow for such variation when tests with higher quotient are included. Tested for x86_64 and x86. lround: provide cast for wordsize-64 version if needed
Platforms with 64-bit registers where 32-bit values need to have the high 32 bits set in a particular way need to have an explicit cast when using the 64-bit sysdeps/ieee754/dbl-64/wordsize-64 version of llround() as lround(). This includes tilegx32, and likely MIPS. x32 does not need this, and AArch64 ILP32 will not either. Require it to be specified in sysdep.h to be explicit. |

[BZ #6803] Set errno for scalbln, scalbn
Errno is not set and the testcases will fail. Now the scalbln-aliases are removed in i386/m68 and the wrappers are used when calling the scalbln-functions. On ia64 only scalblnf has its own implementation. For scalbln and scalblnl the ieee754/dbl-64 and ieee754/ldbl-96 are used, thus the wrappers are needed, too. |

Fix for logb/logbf/logbl (bugs 13954/13955/13956)
POSIX 2008 states that if the input for 'logb[f|l]' is a subnormal number it should be treated as if it were normalized. This means the implementation should calculate the log2 of the mantissa and add it to the subnormal exponent (-126 for float and -1022 for double and IBM long double). This patch takes care of that. |
