This changes gtk_text_buffer_insert_texture() to
gtk_text_buffer_insert_paintable() which is strictly more useful
(as textures are paintables). It also fixes the code to actually
support drawing the paintables (as well as tracking changes
to the paintables.
If icon lookup fails or if loading it fails later, just always
fall back to the built in image-missing icon. Nobody is handling
missing icons in a sane way anyway.
If you *truly* need to handle missing icons, you need to manually
use gtk_icon_theme_has_icon().
While changing the loading code I also fixed an issue where it
was always passing "png" to pixbuf, now it also handles "xpm" if
that is the filename suffix.
Instead, rely on people passing fallbacks explicitly.
Alternatively, GThemedIcon provides the functionality to create
fallbacks, which is what GtkImage and the testsuite now use.
That method is slightly better, too, so the expected test results
have been updated accordingly.
There is no way to query contexts or do anything useful with them.
So don't keep track of them and don't make them an argument in public
APIs with the docs saying "I don't know what to use here, maybe read
some spec somewhere".
Most users were just forgetting to set the proper flags.
And flags aren't the right way to set this anyway, it was just
acceptable as a workaround during GTK3 to not break API.
The API encouraged wrong usage - most of the users were indeed wrong.
Use the correct version instead:
gtk_icon_theme_get_for_display (gtk_widget_get_display ())
Remove arguments from the constructor.
For actions, we now default to COPY, which is the most common one
that we should enable by default (MOVE requires handling deletion
on the the source side, and ASK only makes sense if we have
multiple actions).
For the content provider, we add a new ::prepare signal where
it should be provided just-in-time.
The window picking code has been broken for a while.
Since this is not really functionality that we should
highlight to application developers, remove the demo
instead of patching it up.
Putting a context menu on an overlay scrollbar
is too much of an easter egg to count as a useful
demo. Remove it, rather than changing it to a
popover.
We're a normal application, so we can use the normal way to hook up code
into builder files, which is using dlsym() for the function pointers.
There's no need to to extra work exporting static symbols.
gtk_builder_connect_signals() is no longer necessary, because all the
setup that made it necessary to have this extra step is now done
automatically via the closure functions.
This is pretty unused and gets in the way of the next steps.
A potential side effect is that for templates the widget was passed as
the user data argument. If that turns out to be important, we have to
special case that situation.
This renders a magnified version of the text,
to make the effect of various font rendering options
more visible.
It also shows the phases of subpixel rendering,
if you have a recent pango and cairo.
The strength for the natural width can be used
as a tie-breaker to make instable systems behave
in a more predictable way. This can be seen
in the simple constraints demo in gtk-demo.
Port this from ::populate-popup to the new context
menu api. At the same time, fix some parts of the demo
that were broken since it was changed to use GtkStearchEntry.
This library is meant to be the new CSS library that gets used from GDK,
GSK and GTK for string printing and parsing.
As a first step, move GtkCssProviderError into it.
While doing so, split it into GtkCssParserError (for critical problems)
and GtkCssParserWarning (for non-critical problems).
This will be used to let the inspector and other users
pick insensitive widgets again. For now, update all
callers to pass no flags, preserving the current
behavior.
This demo has everything:
- a GtkFixed inside another GtkFixed
- a cube made out of GtkFrame widgets
- an example of 3D transformations
And what's there, in the window once I launch it? The GTK logo made of
widgets.
The appstream-util check performed by Flatpak on recent GNOME SDKs has
become more stringent, and now it requires a <release> tag in the
AppData XML file. If we don't have it, the Flatpak bundles of gtk-demo
and gtk-widget-factory will fail on our CI infrastructure.
The position child property is problematic, since it
requires us to emit notification for all children when
inserting a child early in the list of children.
Remove the property from all ui files.
We'd like the rose picture to be bigger than 16×16. Also remove the
scrolledwindow since the GtkPicture now automatically scales down the
rose image. This also fixes the picture always being allocated at y=0.
Comments matched to reassure the compiler that fallthrough is
intentional are supposed to precede the case or default keywords, at
least in GCC, so the one here did not suppress the warning with GCC. We
can just the if condition and put the comment at the end to solve that.

This is to go along with the newly introduced GdkDrop.
This commit includes the necessary updates to the X11, Wayland
and Broadway backends. Other backends have to be updated separately.
Instead of doing all handling manually in the ::event vfunc,
set up drag/multipress gestures on icon images, and implement
emission of ::icon-press/release and DnD there.
As a side effect, the GdkEvent field in ::icon-press/release
signals has been dropped. Callers that might be interested on it
may still use gtk_get_current_event*().

Use a key controller instead. Note that this currently

exclude such sources as well from the main GTK SO/DLL and from the

The demos are now built as GUI programs, which will require the presence
of WinMain() on Visual Studio builds, unless we specify the entry point.

Instead of loading them into surfaces (which we want to get rid of), we
load into textures.
In fact, we introduce a new paintable subclass called a GtkScaler that
takes care of tracking scaling.
This also ideally gets rid of an extra conversion once renderers learn
to render textures directly.
The main GDK thread lock is not portable and deprecated.
The only reason why gdk_threads_add_timeout() and
gdk_threads_add_timeout_full() exist is to allow invoking a callback
with the GDK lock held, in case 3rd party libraries still use the
deprecated gdk_threads_enter()/gdk_threads_leave() API.
Since we're removing the GDK lock, and we're releasing a new major API,
such code cannot exist any more; this means we can use the GLib API for
installing timeout callbacks.

We have a couple of Python 3.x scripts that parse C files, and since C
does not have any encoding, we need to force one ourselves, to avoid the
case when we're running the build in a non-UTF-8 locale.

This is in preparation of using input streams to show that these
coordinates aren't needed most of the time and can otherwise be saved
during GtkWidget::drag-drop.
Every added widget having a separate random widget type makes it useless
to use the widgetbowl demo for any sort of performance comparison.
Instead. use only one widget type for all the moving children but make
that changable.
This affects a few apis, such as gtk_text_iter_get_pixbuf,
gtk_text_buffer_insert_pixbuf and GtkTextBuffer::insert-pixbuf,
which have all been replaced by texture equivalents.
Update all callers.
Instead of allowing people to pass a uint user-data, insist on them
comparing mime types.
The user data was a uint instead of a pointer anyway, so uniqueness
could not be guaranteed and it caused more issues than it was worth.
And that's ignoring the fact that it basically wasn't used.
Instead, add a function gtk_image_set_icon_size() for the cases where
overriding the icon size is necessary.
Treat icon sizes the same way as pixel sizes, too. So gtk_image_clear()
no longer unsets the icon size.
Instead of returning the icon size with them, make
gtk_image_get_icon_name() and gtk_image_get_gicon() only return the icon
itself.
As a benefit, we can turn them into regular getters that return values
instead of requiring out parameters.
Instead, provide gtk_image_get_icon_size() to query the icon size.
A sideeffect is that we don't set the correct parent window on child
widgets anymore, but that is hopefully going to be fixed once we get rid
of child windows completely.
Change constructors to reflect that.
While doing so, also add a fallback argument to the cursor constructors,
so it is now possible to create cursors with fallback.
And have a priv->display instead of a priv->screen.
Includes turning gtk_menu_set_screen() into gtk_menu_set_display(),
because that function just forwards to its window.
This drops the pixbuf property and the pixbuf getters. We keep
gtk_image_new/set_from_pixbuf, but these are small helpers that
immediately convert to a surface, and there is no way to later get
back the pixbuf you passed in.
The from file/resource codepaths are also changed to load a surface
instead of a pixbuf.
This class is not added by any widgets nor themed by Adwaita/HC.
However, it is presented here as if it does something. It doesn’t.
But we changed the 2 buttons with the .raised class to use symbolic
icons, unlike their ‘unraised’ counterparts, which is unnecessarily
confusing and might make people think .raised affects icons somehow.
So, make them use the same icons in all cases; that way, if .raised is
ever made to do anything, 6 years later, what it does will be clear.

Since setting a clip is mandatory for almost all widgets, we can as well
change the size-allocate signature to include a out_clip parameter, just
like GtkCssGadget did. And since we now always propagate baselines, we
might as well pass that one on to size-allocate.
This way we can also make sure to transform the clip returned from
size-allocate to parent-coordinates, i.e. the same coordinate space
priv->allocation is in.
We now rely on toplevels receiving and forwarding all the events
the windowing should be able to handle. Event masks are no longer a
way to determine whether an event is deliverable ot a widget.
Events will always be delivered in the three captured/target/bubbled
phases, widgets can now just attach GtkEventControllers and let those
handle the events.

We're mixing a lot of styles in the Meson build files. This is an
attempt at making everything slightly more consistent in terms of
whitespace and indentation.
This was only every implemented under X11, and with CSD,
this is clearly in the application realm. We should not
pretend that we can support it on the toolkit level.

It was suggested that the project files to be moved to win32/, so that we can
have one less layer of directories we need to go down into to reach the project files.
This merged gtk, gdk and gsk into one library, making it possible to
have internal private APIs between gtk them, as well as producing more

We now need C99 features from the compiler which are only supported by
Visual Studio 2013 and later, so drop the MSVC 2008~2012 projects, and make
the baseline supported Visual Studio version be 2013. Update the build files
as a result.
These complicate a lot of GdkWindow internals to implement features
that not a lot of apps use, and will be better achieved using gsk.
So, we just drop it all.
Add a new ::measure vfunc similar to GtkCssGadget's that widget
implementations have to override instead of the old get_preferred_width,
get_preferred_height, get_preferred_width_for_height,
get_preferred_height_for_width and
get_preferred_height_and_baseline_for_width.
This updates all the projects files to be be named appropriately as we move from GTK-3.x to 4.x,
and updates the autotools files so that things are distributed and generated properly.
Also remove deprecated/gtkstatusicon-quartz.c from gtk/Makefile.am, as that was causing 'make dist'
to fail as that file has been removed.
This fixes 'make dist' with the updated existing project files in proper order.
Note that this does not include the new GSK, which will be added later, so the project files do
not yet build the whole stack on Visual Studio at this point.
And with it, gtk_widget_get_visual() and gtk_widget_set_visual() are
gone.
We now always use the RGBA visual (if available) and otherwise fall back
to the system visual.
And rename it to "Touch and Drawing Tablets", since it's no longer about
"axes" really.
As for pad support in the demo, just keep it "simple", make the
controller handle all pad devices, and make all the actions have the
same callback.

After introducing the CSS blend mode enum values and including
the background-blend-mode CSS property, it is very important to
actually provide an example of the new feature.

background-blend-mode CSS property works.

This only used by luck before. We are changing a property from the
::notify handler for that property. Now that GtkRevealer is notifying
the property when it stops animations on unmap, we end up in a life
lock situation where we never make it out of the notify queue.
Fix this by not restarting the animation if the widget is unmapped.
On wayland we get separate master/slaves for each tablet, we will
need to receive crossing events for each master pointer if there's
more than one around.
Axis labels are very X specific, and are not really possible to port to other
backends such as Wayland. As such, it makes more sense to use GdkAxisUse and
GdkAxisUseFlag in order to determine the axis capabilities of a device and draw
their axes.

The font features demo started calling the Harfbuzz API directly
starting from commit 9de3b24c20. Harfbuzz
is an implicit dependency of Pango on some platforms, but it's not part
of the public dependencies; this means that we cannot expect to link to
Pango and automatically get Harfbuzz symbols to link against —
especially when things like --as-needed are in play.
This change triggered build failures on non-Unix platforms, fixed by
commit 2a9967731a, as well as build
failures in Continuous, with this error message:

In order to get the font features demo to build everywhere we should
take an explicit, though optional, check on Harfbuzz, and conditionally
build the font features demo with the right compiler and linker flags.
The fonts features demo now uses fontconfig APIs via PangoFT2, which makes
the code not build on non-Linux, so only include this demo in the build
on UNIX.
Add more features to the list, allow selecting script/language
from the set that is supported by the font, indicate which
features are present in the font for the selected script/language,
and expand the default specimen to cover latin, cyrillic and
greek.
Its very easy to get extra references to the NativeDialog so that
when you release your last reference any visible dialog is not
hidden. We handle this by adding a destroy method similar to how
you destroy regular toplevels.
Use the common automake module from the previous commit in the
Makefile.am's, which means that the Makefile.am's in gdk/ and gtk/ can be
cleaned up as a result. As a side effect, the property sheet that is used
to "install" the build results and headers can now be generated in terms of
the listing of headers to copy during 'make dist', where we can acquire
most of the list of headers to "install", so that we can largely avoid the
situation where the property sheet files are not updated in time for this,
causing missing headers when this build of GTK+ is being used.
Also use the Visual Studio Project file generation for the following
projects:

Add a --run option which takes the name of an example and
launches it. Also add a --autoquit option which can be used
to quit after a given number of seconds.
The application demo had a "Blue" and a "Bold" menuitem both with
the Ctrl-B accel. This is confusing, since only one of them works.
Change the accelerator for bold to Ctrl-Shift-B, so they both work.
Add all 388 tweets of the @GTKtoolkit account. This shows the
performance behavior of the listbox (not good with that many rows) and
allows us to quickly notice when things get worse (or better).
And just so I have a place where I can dump how I generated this file:
First, I got Timm Bäder to download me the json for the twitter feed

This whole machinery of going through 3 intermediate files was only
necessary to onvert the dates from ISO format to unix timestamps,
otherwise this could have been a single line.
