The demo shows creating ones own listmodel and using it to fill a grid.
I am totally getting the hang of React btw:
500 lines of logic with no UI code and 100 lines of GtkBuilder XML and
I get a sweet UI.
Due to the many different ways to set factories, it makes sense to
expose them as custom objects.
This makes the actual APIs for the list widgets simpler, because they
can just have a regular "factory" property.
As a convenience function, gtk_list_view_new_with_factory() was added
to make this whole approach easy to use from C.
gtk_fixed_get_child_position does not work if children
have transforms that are not just 2D translations.
Use gtk_widget_translate_coordinates instead.
We were leaking the builder in the css blendmodes demo,

This needs to return a boolean, also it should not call end because
that will be called anyway by Gtk+ after cancel, and this was causing
warnings due to the opacity being unset with no dragged widget set.
This commit is porting GtkPaned to be derived
from GtkWidget instead of GtkContainer, while adding
start-child and end-child properties. The existing
properties are renamed to follow the start/end naming
scheme, and we add proper getters and setters.
Update all users.

Use window title, or custom title widget if it's set. Remove 'title'
property.
Update demos and tests to set the title on the window instead of
headerbar.
Make GtkAspectFrame not derive from GtkFrame anymore,
since frames now always draw, well, a frame. Also,
add proper setters for the properties of GtkAspectFrame.
Update our sole user.

Make widgets can-focus by default, and change the semantics
of can-focus to be recursive . If it is set to FALSE, focus
can not enter the widget or its descendents at all anymore.
This commit temporarily breaks focus behavior of widgets
that did not expect to receive focus.
It doesn't work anymore, since popovers now need
support in the parent, and we don't really need
a demo just for popovers. They are used everywhere
already.

When creating shortcuts, there almost always are a trigger and an action
available for use. So make gtk_shortcut_new() take those as arguments.
Also add gtk_shortcut_new_with_arguments() so people can easily pass
those in, too.
Similar to GtkShortcutTrigger, GtkShortCutAction provides all the
different ways to activate a shortcut.
So far, these different ways are supported:
- do nothing
- Call a user-provided callback
- Call gtk_widget_activate()
- Call gtk_widget_mnemonic_activate()
- Emit an action signal
- Activate an action from the widget's action muxer

This is a huge reorganization of GtkDropTarget. I did not know how to
split this up, so it's unfortunately all one commit.
Highlights:
- Split GtkDropTarget into GtkDropTarget and GtkDropTargetAsync
GtkDropTarget is the simple one that only works with GTypes and offers
a synchronous interface.
GtkDropTargetAsync retains the full old functionality and allows
handling mime types.
- Drop events are handled differently
Instead of picking a single drop target and sending all DND events to
it, every event is sent to every drop target. The first one to handle
the event gets to call gdk_drop_status(), further handlers do not
interact with the GdkDrop.
Of course, for the ultimate GDK_DROP_STARTING event, only the first
one to accept the drop gets to handle it.
This allows stacking DND event controllers that aren't necessarily
interested in handling the event or that might decide later to drop
it.
- Port all widgets to either of those
Both have a somewhat changed API due to the new event handling.
For the ones who should use the sync version, lots of cleanup was
involved to operate on a sync API.
It is enough to just set the parent (and make the parent
call gtk_native_check_resize in size_allocate).
This commit removes the relative_to argument to the
constructors of GtkPopover and GtkPopoverMenu, and
updates all callers.
Restructure the getters for event fields to
be more targeted at particular event types.
Update all callers, and replace all direct
event struct access with getters.
As a side-effect, this drops some unused getters.
Add properties, and use string arrays instead of lists.
Among other things, this renames gtk_icon_theme_list_icons
to gtk_icon_theme_get_icon_names.

Content providers are meant to be immutable, apart from very special
cases, but in those cases they need to emit
gdk_content_provider_content_changed().
Having a constructor that just uses a get_func invites abuse of this
by not making developers aware of those requirments.
In fact, all users in GTK failed to do this.
Instead, code should use the GtkDragSource::prepare signal to create
content providers when needed.
The same problem exists with gdk_content_provider_new_with_formats(),
but this commit doesn't touch that.
This changes gtk_text_buffer_insert_texture() to
gtk_text_buffer_insert_paintable() which is strictly more useful
(as textures are paintables). It also fixes the code to actually
support drawing the paintables (as well as tracking changes
to the paintables.
If icon lookup fails or if loading it fails later, just always
fall back to the built in image-missing icon. Nobody is handling
missing icons in a sane way anyway.
If you *truly* need to handle missing icons, you need to manually
use gtk_icon_theme_has_icon().
While changing the loading code I also fixed an issue where it
was always passing "png" to pixbuf, now it also handles "xpm" if
that is the filename suffix.
Instead, rely on people passing fallbacks explicitly.
Alternatively, GThemedIcon provides the functionality to create
fallbacks, which is what GtkImage and the testsuite now use.
That method is slightly better, too, so the expected test results
have been updated accordingly.
There is no way to query contexts or do anything useful with them.
So don't keep track of them and don't make them an argument in public
APIs with the docs saying "I don't know what to use here, maybe read
some spec somewhere".
Most users were just forgetting to set the proper flags.
And flags aren't the right way to set this anyway, it was just
acceptable as a workaround during GTK3 to not break API.
The API encouraged wrong usage - most of the users were indeed wrong.
Use the correct version instead:
gtk_icon_theme_get_for_display (gtk_widget_get_display ())
Remove arguments from the constructor.
For actions, we now default to COPY, which is the most common one
that we should enable by default (MOVE requires handling deletion
on the the source side, and ASK only makes sense if we have
multiple actions).
For the content provider, we add a new ::prepare signal where
it should be provided just-in-time.
The window picking code has been broken for a while.
Since this is not really functionality that we should
highlight to application developers, remove the demo
instead of patching it up.
Putting a context menu on an overlay scrollbar
is too much of an easter egg to count as a useful
demo. Remove it, rather than changing it to a
popover.
We're a normal application, so we can use the normal way to hook up code
into builder files, which is using dlsym() for the function pointers.
There's no need to to extra work exporting static symbols.
gtk_builder_connect_signals() is no longer necessary, because all the
setup that made it necessary to have this extra step is now done
automatically via the closure functions.
This is pretty unused and gets in the way of the next steps.
A potential side effect is that for templates the widget was passed as
the user data argument. If that turns out to be important, we have to
special case that situation.
This renders a magnified version of the text,
to make the effect of various font rendering options
more visible.
It also shows the phases of subpixel rendering,
if you have a recent pango and cairo.
The strength for the natural width can be used
as a tie-breaker to make instable systems behave
in a more predictable way. This can be seen
in the simple constraints demo in gtk-demo.
Port this from ::populate-popup to the new context
menu api. At the same time, fix some parts of the demo
that were broken since it was changed to use GtkStearchEntry.
This library is meant to be the new CSS library that gets used from GDK,
GSK and GTK for string printing and parsing.
As a first step, move GtkCssProviderError into it.
While doing so, split it into GtkCssParserError (for critical problems)
and GtkCssParserWarning (for non-critical problems).
This will be used to let the inspector and other users
pick insensitive widgets again. For now, update all
callers to pass no flags, preserving the current
behavior.
This demo has everything:
- a GtkFixed inside another GtkFixed
- a cube made out of GtkFrame widgets
- an example of 3D transformations
And what's there, in the window once I launch it? The GTK logo made of
widgets.
The appstream-util check performed by Flatpak on recent GNOME SDKs has
become more stringent, and now it requires a <release> tag in the
AppData XML file. If we don't have it, the Flatpak bundles of gtk-demo
and gtk-widget-factory will fail on our CI infrastructure.
The position child property is problematic, since it
requires us to emit notification for all children when
inserting a child early in the list of children.
Remove the property from all ui files.
We'd like the rose picture to be bigger than 16×16. Also remove the
scrolledwindow since the GtkPicture now automatically scales down the
rose image. This also fixes the picture always being allocated at y=0.
Comments matched to reassure the compiler that fallthrough is
intentional are supposed to precede the case or default keywords, at
least in GCC, so the one here did not suppress the warning with GCC. We
can just the if condition and put the comment at the end to solve that.

This is to go along with the newly introduced GdkDrop.
This commit includes the necessary updates to the X11, Wayland
and Broadway backends. Other backends have to be updated separately.
Instead of doing all handling manually in the ::event vfunc,
set up drag/multipress gestures on icon images, and implement
emission of ::icon-press/release and DnD there.
As a side effect, the GdkEvent field in ::icon-press/release
signals has been dropped. Callers that might be interested on it
may still use gtk_get_current_event*().
1. Remove set_icons property
2. Make it a GtkWidget subclass
3. Add gtk_fishbowl_set_creation_func()
4. Make the widgetbowl use the new benchmarking infrastructure of the
fishbowl
Use a key controller instead. Note that this currently
breaks the handling of Enter, since we activate key bindings
twice, causing us to switch to the label and back.
Really exclude the portions in the gtkfontchooserwidget.c that are built
when HarfBuzz and PangoFT2 are built, and update the Meson files to
exclude such sources as well from the main GTK SO/DLL and from the
gtk4-demo program.

Remove g_auto*() usage from these sources and use the traditional
g_free(), as g_auto*() are GCCisms (or CLangisms).
Also, don't include unistd.h unconditionally and stop including
langinfo.h and dirent.h, since they seem to be unused.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=773299
The demos are now built as GUI programs, which will require the presence
of WinMain() on Visual Studio builds, unless we specify the entry point.
Pass the /entry:mainCRTStartup linker flag on Visual Studio builds for
the demo programs so that they can link properly.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=773299
We now properly use GdkFrameTimings and can therefor check for dropping
even a single frame in the history (of 16 frames or 1/4 of a second).
Once that happens, we immediately stop adding new items to the bowl.
A side effect is that the number of icons is now a *lot* smaller.

Fixes#109
Instead of loading them into surfaces (which we want to get rid of), we
load into textures.
In fact, we introduce a new paintable subclass called a GtkScaler that
takes care of tracking scaling.
This also ideally gets rid of an extra conversion once renderers learn
to render textures directly.
The main GDK thread lock is not portable and deprecated.
The only reason why gdk_threads_add_timeout() and
gdk_threads_add_timeout_full() exist is to allow invoking a callback
with the GDK lock held, in case 3rd party libraries still use the
deprecated gdk_threads_enter()/gdk_threads_leave() API.
Since we're removing the GDK lock, and we're releasing a new major API,
such code cannot exist any more; this means we can use the GLib API for
installing timeout callbacks.
