a79de46ac5 Don't skip QDoubleConverter's digit-count check for non-whole bound
Using convertDoubleTo() to get a whole number, from which to determine
the number of digits we're allowed before the fractional part, fails
if the double isn't a whole number, which lead to the skip being
checked. Use qFloor() of the double (as this should have as many
digits as the double had before its decimal point, which is what we
care about; qCeil() might round up to a power of ten).

5ff7163796 qputenv: port to QByteArrayView
The vast majority of in-tree users pass simple and short C string
literals as the value. By porting to QByteArrayView, we document that
we'll accept non-NUL-terminated data, and do the NUL-termination
internally, using SSO'ed std::string, saving memory allocations in the
common case of short strings.

I didn't bother to check which direction std::string takes for
nullptrs these days (there was a change accepted in that area for
C++20 or 23), so play it safe and protect against them.

5b334729d3 rhi: gl: Avoid magic adjustments to the context/window format
...by removing the entire adjustedFormat() helper.

Qt Quick has never used this, which indicates it is not that
useful. Same goes for Qt Multimedia or Qt 3D. Ensuring depth and
stencil is requested is already solved by using
QSurfaceFormat::setDefaultFormat() or by adjusting the formats
everywhere as appropriate.

The helper function's usages are in the manual tests that use it as a
shortcut, and in the GL backend itself. Remove it and leave it up the
client to set the depth or stencil buffer size, typically in the
global default surface format. (which in fact many of the mentioned
manual tests already did, so some of calls to
window->setFormat(adjustedFormat()) were completely unnecessary)

By not having the built-in magic that tries to always force depth and
stencil, we avoid problems that arise then the helper cannot be easily
invoked (thinking of widgets and backingstores), and so one ends up
with unexpected stencil (or depth) in the context (where the GL
backend auto-adjusts), but not in the window (which is not under
QRhi's control).

It was in practice possible to trigger EGL_BAD_MATCH failures with the
new rhi-based widget composition on EGL-based systems. For example, if
an application with a QOpenGLWidget did not set both depth and stencil
(but only one, or none), it ended up failing due to the context -
surface EGLConfig mismatches. On other platforms this matters less due
to less strict config/pixelformat management.

ade2df4c4b Relayout QStaticText when dpi changes
If the cached font has a different DPI than the one used in
QPainter, we need to treat this the same as if other font
properties have changed and redo the layout.

This happened when running the QStaticText test on Wayland,
because the default dpi was 100 and the QPixmap we ended up
drawing to was 96. This caused the pixel size of the font to
be calculated differently when doing drawText() (using 96 dpi)
and drawStaticText() (using the cached 100 dpi).

7de0f3e9cc rhi: Clean up some inconsistencies
Some of the offsets are already quint32 in the API (vertex input
attributes, dynamic offsets, offsets in draw calls), matching the
reality of the underlying 3D APIs, but many buffer-related functions
use int as of now, simply because that used to be the default choice,
and the same goes for sizes (such as buffer or range sizes). This is
not quite consistent and should be cleaned up if for nothing else then
just to make the classes consistent, but also because no 3D API use a
signed type for offsets, sizes, and strides. (except OpenGL for some)

When it comes to strides (for vertex inputs and raw image texture
uploads), those are already all quint32s. This is straightforward
because most of the 3D APIs use 32-bit uints for these regardless of
the architecture.

Sizes and offsets are often architecture-dependent (Vulkan, Metal),
but there is at least one API where they are always 32-bit even on
64-bit Windows (UINT == unsigned int, D3D11). In addition, we do not
really care about buffer or texture data larger than 4 GB, at least
not without realistic use cases and real world testing, which are
quite unlikely to materialize for now (esp. since we still have the
width/height of 2D textures limited to 16 or 32K in many cases even on
desktops, whereas 2GB+ buffers are not guaranteed in practice even
when an API seemingly allows it).

In any case, the important change here is the signed->unsigned
switch. A number of casts can now be removed here and there in the
backends, because the offsets and sizes are now unsigned as well,
matching the underlying API reality. The size can be potentially
increased later on with minimal effort, if that becomes necessary for
some reason.

1d961491d8 Always update QPalette resolve mask, regardless of QBrush change
56bd1b76d2 changed the update
resolve mask behavior in QPalette to avoid detaching brush data
when modifying the resolve mask if the brush value is not changed.

But this behavior broke compatibility, it introduced unknown risks, and
we cannot ensure that other code in Qt does not depend on the old
behavior.

We both need to ensure that we don't detach when the value is not
changed, and ensure that the resolveMask is always updated regardless
of whether the value changes, so we need to split them up and
independently share the brush data.

QFont will update its corresponding resolveMask even if the value has
not changed, so it is better to correct this behavior so that QPalette
and QFont are consistent.

[ChangeLog][QtGui][QPalette] Always update resolve mask in
QPalette::setBrush, even if the value of brush has not changed.

QT_SCREEN_SCALE_FACTORS in many cases set on behalf of the user,
instead of by the user, so we should make it less sharp and more
in line with standard high-dpi configuration.

Specifically, make it subject to the rounding policy set by
QGuiApplication::setHighDpiScaleFactorRoundingPolicy(). This
means that applications which support integer scale factors
only will see integers only, also when QT_SCREEN_SCALE_FACTORS
specifies a fractional factor.

Users who want to override can set

More specifically, if either minimum or maximum size are updated, make
sure that the current window geometry is updated so that it is within
the minimum and maximum sizes.

Previously, these constraints was only respected by the window manager
when the user resized the window.

For widgets this already worked, because a top-level widget will take
care of respecting these constraints if they are changed.

Since QWindow::setMinimumSize and QWindow::setMaximumSize started to
share so many common things, a new function (setMinOrMaxSize_helper())

d83441340c QKeySequence: Add missing modifier names
The issue is that when someone is trying to use the following code:

QKeySequence keySequence(Qt::Key_Shift);
qDebug() << keySequence.toString();

This will print seemingly gibberish output. It is unicode in practice. For
Qt::Key_Shift, this would be: "_@\uDC20"

The reason why this is happening is because we have platform-specific ways to
handle this due to Mac glyphs which are not available on Linux or Windows. This
works fine on Mac.

But for the Linux and Windows codepaths, there is not really any mapping like
for other keys. It seems that modifiers were left out.

The solution is to simply amend the list of mapping from these modifier key
codes to raw strings for Linux and Windows like it is done for other key codes.
So, now, modifiers will also be included in the list.

So, the expected output will be generated for the above code, as: "Shift".

We should prefer to test this unless we know it won't work, but this is
very hardware and implementation-dependent anyway. So I declare that

The notable difference in this commit is the removal of QNX. I don't
know why it began producing an FP exception with one of my changes, but
since the toolchain isn't public, I can't debug and will not devote any
time to figuring it out. If users of QNX require this, then someone with

It's now even more paramount that autotests (and real-world
touchscreens) must never omit any active touchpoint from a touch event.
If a point doesn't move, it must be included in the QTouchEvent, with
Stationary state. If not, QGuiApp::processTouchEvent() could generate

04a60bb033 Convert <pre> to Markdown ``` and vice-versa with nonBreakableLines
The HTML parser calls QTextBlockFormat::setNonBreakableLines(true) when
it sees a <pre> tag; so for symmetry, the markdown reader now does the
same when it sees a fenced code block, and the markdown writer honors
the nonBreakableLines property by writing a fenced code block. This
preserves the meaning better when reading HTML and writing markdown or
vice-versa, without modifying HTML reading or writing code.

Added a test tst_QTextMarkdownImporter::fencedCodeBlocks() which
unfortunately also highlights a known bug in the markdown reader: each
fenced code block ends with an extra empty block. That can be fixed
separately.

tst_QTextMarkdownWriter::fromHtml(preformats with embedded backticks)
that we re-enabled in 1abaf9d5d6 was not a
very useful test: ``` with a space and some words but no newline is not
a fence: it's just like a `monospace` span. We have had trouble with
those in CI because of missing monospace fonts, or inconsistency when
a supposedly mono font's QFontInfo::fixedPitch() returns false.
So just test proper <pre>/fence conversion for now.

da0f72ebb8 QEvent: start to de-inline copy ctor and clone() of all subclasses
There's no advantage to them being inline: Absent de-virtualisation,
clone() is only supposed to be called through the vtable, and the copy
ctor is only supposed to be used in the implementation of clone().

And when the compiler de-virtualises, we don't want the code
duplication associated with inlining.

Enforce this by introducing new macros to hide the boilerplate.

This fixes missing out-of-line dtors in:
- QSinglePointEvent
- QApplicationStateChangeEvent
- QFutureCallOutEvent

Wrong covariant return in:
- QFutureCallOutEvent

And missing clone() reimplementations in:
- QCloseEvent
- QIconDragEvent
- QShowEvent
- QHideEvent
- QDragEnterEvent
- QDragLeaveEvent

While these don't carry extra data or members, a dynamic_cast of the
result of clone() as well as using the expected covariant return value
would fail:

   QShowEvent *e = ~~~;
QShowEvent *e2 = e->clone(); // ERROR: converting QEvent* to QShowEvent*

Check that reimplementing clone() is binary compatible (covariant
returns may change the numerical pointer value returned, cf.
https://community.kde.org/Policies/Binary_Compatibility_Issues_With_C%2B%2B).

The copy-assignment operator stays inline for the time being, as the
goal is to = delete it in the future.

This patch covers, roughly, QtCore and QtGui.

a5db072dc2 rhi: Add explicit subclass for RTs from swapchains
We want to enable gaining access to the underlying resource(s) by
inspecting a QRhiRenderTarget. This is not currently possible for
swapchains since there is nothing that references the actual
QRhiSwapChain. To clean this up, make an explicit, new
QRhiSwapChainRenderTarget subclass. Thus the logic already used in a
couple of places to examine the resources attached to a
QRhiTextureRenderTarget can now work with swapchain render targets too,
by branching based on the resourceType().

This eliminates the somewhat odd setup where a "RenderTarget" resource
is QRhiRenderTarget corresponding (but not exposing!) a swapchain,
whereas a "TextureRenderTarget" is a QRhiTextureRenderTarget which
is a subclass of QRhiRenderTarget. Now we correctly have an (abstract)
base and two subclasses, one for each type of render targets.

Besides, it allows us to clean up the oddly named
Q...ReferenceRenderTarget classes in the backends, which initially tried
to indicate that this "render target" merely references (or, in
practice, is) a swapchain. We can now have a nice and symmetrical
Q...SwapChainRenderTarget and Q...TextureRenderTarget naming scheme.

78b6876974 Long live QColor::fromString()!
It is customary for Qt types that can be constructed from string-ish
to provide a fromString() named constructor. QColor didn't, relying
instead on a set of overloaded implicit and explicit constructors.

Add the named constructor, with the intent to deprecate the string-ish
QColor constructors after a grace period.

To prevent new users from using known-to-become-deprecated API, mark
the old functions as \obsolete.

Also rename isValidColor() to isValidColorName(). The only reason why
these are lumped together in single commit is so that their docs can
refer to each other instead of having to temporarily refer to obsolete
API.

[ChangeLog][QtGui][QColor] Added fromString() and isValidColorName(),
both taking QAnyStringView.

423b650938 Fix painting clipping glitches with fractional scaling
In QPainter, clipping can only be done on whole pixels. The various
ways of specifying a clipping rectangle to the QPainter API have been
inconsistent in how fractional rectangles (either specified directly,
or as a result of fractional scaling) are mapped (rounded) to integer
coordinates.

Also, the mappings have not made sure to keep the edge-to-edge
property of clip rects under scaling. This is particularly important
when scaling QRegions with multiple rects, as QRegion is designed on
the assumption that an area can be described as a set of edge-to-edge
rects.

The fix rounds a clip rect identically with a fill rect. (Indeed, a
followup plan would be to merge QRasterPaintEngine's
toNormalizedFillRect() with the rectangle rounding function in this
commit).

Notably, a QRectF clip is now interpreted the same as a QPainterPath
clip describing the same area.

This modifies d9cc149995

4cca8ee527 QGuiApplication: use translation-based layout direction unless explicitly set
The stored layout direction used to get changed during initialization
to what was auto-detected based on the translation. Changing the
translation then overwrote that stored value, even if an explicit call
to setLayoutDirection was made by the application.

Calling QGuiApplication::setLayoutDirection(Auto) has so far been a
no-op.

Change this logic so that the stored layout direction continues to be
LayoutDirectionAuto also if it's set based on auto-detection, and only
overwrite it when explicitly called with a non-Auto value. This way,
applications can set a layout direction that stays unchanged even when
translators are installed.

Add test coverage that uses a QTranslator.

In practice, this is not a change of behavior, unless applications called
setLayoutDirection(Auto) (which is no longer a no-op), or called
setLayoutDirection() and then installed a translator and expected the
translator's layout direction to come into effect in spite of the explicit
setting.

[ChangeLog][Gui][QGuiApplication] Calling setLayoutDirection with a non-
auto value now disables the auto-detection based on installed
translators. Applications that explicitly set a layout direction and also
want translators installed afterwards to take effect should reset the
layout direction to Auto, which is now no longer a no-op.

178c1a6243 rhi: Add the long-pending probe() helper, with backing for Metal
There is a TODO for this in Qt Quick from the 6.0 times. To decide
upfront if Metal can be expected to function, or if a fallback to
OpenGL needs to be triggered (especially important with macOS virtual
machines, where, unlike any real macOS system, Metal may not be
present at all), the scenegraph calls create() and then drops the
result. The idea to make this less wasteful was back then to add a
dedicated probing function which can, possibly, perform the checks in
a more lightweight manner than full initialization. Implement this
now, focusing on Metal.

Brought to attention by QTBUG-100441: printing warnings about not
having an MTLDevice is confusing in a Metal-less macOS VM, because it
is not an actual error, only part of the probing at scenegraph
initialization. We can now avoid printing confusing warnings there.

thing in Qt 6. The code was also wrongly grabbing only the first
containing - not intersecting - window's backing store into the screen
pixmap.

Enable the QScreen::grabImage test for the offscreen platform, where it

6ffc8d8eb6 QtGui/math3d: Fix QQuaternion::getEulerAngles for GimbalLock cases
This is heavily inspired by the patch written by Inho Lee
<inho.lee@qt.io>, which says "There is a precision problem in the
previous algorithm when checking pitch value. (In the case that the
rotation on the X-axis makes Gimbal lock.)"

In order to work around the precision problem, this patch does:

 1. switch to the algorithm described in the inline comment to make
    the story simple.
 2. forcibly normalize the {x, y, z, w} components to eliminate
    fractional errors.
 3. set threshold to avoid hidden division by cos(pitch) =~ 0.

From my testing which compares dot product of the original quaternion
and the one recreated from Euler angles, calculation within float range
seems okay. (abs(normalize(q_orig) * normalize(q_roundtrip)) >= 0.99999)

Many thanks to Inho Lee for the original patch and discussion about
rounding errors.

cb27ed30f7 QCSS: Support Qt 5-style integer property selectors
In Qt 5 style sheets, objects could be selected by an enum-type property
using the integer value of the enum value, e.g

QToolButton[popupMode="1"] { ... }

In Qt 6, the the new meta type system and QVariant implementation enabled
QVariant::toString to return the string representation of the enum value
instead for a property containing an enum. Since QStyleSheetStyle's
attribute matching is string based, this breaks the Qt 5 style selector,
and QCSS code instead needs to use e.g.

QToolButton[popupMode=MenuButtonPopup] { ... }

While the new syntax is arguably preferable, this is an unintentional
change that silently breaks style sheet code (no error or warning at
compile- or run-time).

To support Qt 5-style selectors, we have to change the StyleSelector
interface of the QCssParser API so that we can pass through what type
of value the attribute extractor should return; if an integer string "1"
is provided, then we need to compare the enum integer value; if the
string provided does not represent a number, then we need to compare the
name of the enum value.

Since the pure virtual attribute() method that needs to be implemented
to extract the attribute value of the node is implemented in modules
outside qtbase, add a second virtual method that takes the entire
QCss::AttributeSelector, which includes the value to match. Extractor
implementations can use it to evaluate which type of data to return for
an exact match. The default implementation calls the old attribute()
method so that existing StyleSelector implementations continue to work.

Make the respective change in the QStyleSheetStyleSelector, and simplify
the surrounding code. Adjust other StyleSelector implemnentations in
qtbase. As a drive-by, remove the superfluous virtual declaration from
those overrides.

Once submodules are adjusted to override this virtual function instead
of the (now no longer pure) virtual attribute() method, that method can
be removed.

17dca04a61 Use QTextCharFormat::fontFixedPitch to remember Markdown backtick spans
If the editing app (like qtbase/examples/widgets/richtext/textedit)
has controls only for setting a specific font, and someone uses it to
write markdown "from scratch", then we need to detect that they chose
Courier or some other fixed-pitch font, and write the backticks,
because Markdown has no syntax for selecting a specific font family.
If the user loads markdown into such an application, the font
is set to QFontDatabase::systemFont(QFontDatabase::FixedFont).
Round-trip editing was already working, as long as such a font exists.
QTextCharFormat::setFont() calls setFontFixedPitch(font.fixedPitch()),
but for the chosen "mono" font, font.fixedPitch() can be false.
For semantic completeness and separation of concerns, we now
set fontFixedPitch explicitly if a `backtick` span is encountered.
As a followup to f1e60de665 this
should get its autotest passing reliably.

0a59101495 rhi: Add support for separate image and sampler objects
For Direct 3D, Metal, and Vulkan this is natively supported. (and
makes no difference in particular for D3D and Metal because they do
not have the legacy combined image sampler concept anyways)

With OpenGL it will work too, but this relies on SPIR-Cross magic and
is still using a combined sampler (e.g. a sampler2D) in the GLSL
shader. The GL backend walks back and forth in the mapping tables from
the shader baker in order to make this work, which is presumably
slightly more expensive than combined image samplers.

Do note that combined image samplers (i.e. sampler2D in the shader and
QRhiShaderResourceBinding::sampledTexture() in code) continue to be
the primary, recommended way for any user of the rhi for the time

9ea1f0f8b9 Fix qobject_cast on partially destroyed QWidget/QWindow
QWidget and QWindow use bits in QObjectPrivate to provide for a couple
of shortcuts -- one in qobject_cast, and another in the isWidgetType() /
isWindowType() functions in QObject. These can be optimized by simply
looking at the bits, without actually doing more expensive runtime
casts.

These bits were set on construction, but not unset on destruction. The
result was for instance that destroying a QWidget would report that the
object was still a QWidget when ~QObject was reached.

Fix this

1) by setting the bits only when QWidget / QWindow constructors start;

2) by resetting the bits once ~QWidget / ~QWindow are completed.
Technically speaking this is not 100% correct in the presence of data
members, but luckily those classes don't have any.

Amend an existing test for QWidget (whose comment said exactly the
opposite of what the test actually did) and add a test for QWindow.

Some other code was wrongly relying on isWidgetType() returning true
for destroyed QWidgets; amend it as needed.

[ChangeLog][QtCore][QObject] Using qobject_cast on partially constructed
or destroyed QWidget/QWindow instances now yields correct results.
Similarly, using the convenience isWidgetType() / isWindowType()
functions now correctly return false on such instances. Before,
qobject_cast (and the convenience functions) would erroneously report
that a given object was a QWidget (resp. QWindow) even during that
object's construction (before QObject's constructor had completed) or
destruction (after QWidget's (resp. QWindow's) destructors had been
completed). This was semantically wrong and inconsistent with other ways
of gathering runtime type information regarding such an object (e.g.
dynamic_cast, obj->metaObject()->className() and so on).

23f8d6c57f rhi: Drop the profiler for now
The system we inherited from the original Qt 5.14 introduction of QRhi
is a text stream based solution where resource creation and frame
timings are sent in a comma-separated format to a QIODevice.

This, while useful to get insights about the number of resources at a
given time, is not actively helpful. The frameworks built on top (Qt
Quick, Qt Quick 3D) are expected to provide solutions for logging
timings in a different way (e.g. via the QML Profiler). Similarly,
tracking active resources and generating statistics from that is
better handled on a higher level.

The unique bits, such as the Vulkan memory allocator statistics and
the GPU frame timestamps, are converted into APIs in QRhi. This way a
user of QRhi can query it at any time and do whatever it sees fit with
the data.

When it comes to the GPU timestamps, that has a somewhat limited value
due to the heavy asynchronousness, hence the callback based
API. Nonetheless, this is still useful since it is the only means of
reporting some frame timing data (an approx. elapsed milliseconds for
a frame) from the GPU side.

04cdde30d6 rhi: Enable exposing separate image and sampler objects from the shader
Adds the following in a QShader/QShaderDescription:

- a list of separate images
- a list of separate samplers
- a list of "combined_sampler_uniform_name" -> [
  separate_texture_binding, separate_sampler_binding ] mappings
  (relevant for GLSL only)

On the QShader (and qsb/QShaderBaker) level not having separate image
(texture) and sampler objects exposed in the reflection info is not
entirely future proof. Right now we benefit strongly from the fact
that Vulkan/SPIR-V supports both combined and separate
images/samplers, while for HLSL and MSL SPIRV-Cross translates
combined image samplers to separate texture and sampler objects, but
it is not given that relying on combined image samplers will always be
possible in the long run; it is mostly a legacy OpenGL thing that just
happens to be supported in Vulkan/SPIR-V due to some benefits with
certain implementations/hw, but is not something present in any newer
APIs.

In addition, before this patch, attempting to run a shader with
separate textures and samplers through qsb will just fail for GLSL,
even though SPIRV-Cross does have the ability to generate a "fake"
combined sampler for each separate texture+sampler combination. Take
this into use. This also involves generating and exposing a
combined_name->[separate_texture_binding,separate_sampler_binding]
mapping table for GLSL, not unlike we have the native binding map for
HLSL and MSL. A user (such as, the GL backend of QRhi) would then use
this table to recognize what user-provided texture+sampler binding
point numbers correspond to which auto-generated sampler2Ds in the GL
program.

Take the following example:

layout(binding = 1) uniform texture2D sepTex;
layout(binding = 2) uniform sampler sepSampler;
layout(binding = 3) uniform sampler sepSampler2;

Inn the reflection info (QShaderDescription) this (assuming a
corresponding qtshadertools patch in place) now gives one entry in
separateImages() and two in separateSamplers(). Assuming sepTex is
used both with sepSampler and sepSampler2, the GLSL output and mapping
table from QShaderBaker will have two auto-generated sampler2Ds (and
no 'texture2D' or 'sampler').

One immediate benefit is that it is now possible to create a shader
that relies only on separate images and samplers, feed it into qsb,
generate all the possible targets, and then also feed the SPIR-V
binary into a tool or library such as Tint (e.g. to generate WGSL)
that canot deal with combined image samplers.

b369dc6021 QTextHtmlParser: fix prefix lookahead and html comments
The hasPrefix() function would only use the second 'lookahead' parameter
to check if there was more unparsed text after the current character.
When it's obvious from the codebase that it should actually look ahead
of the current character being processed, and compare againt that future

Html comments were also not handled quite right. Partially because of
the broken hasPrefix() function, but also because it would advance the
current index tracker by 3 instead of 2. Remember that the beginning of
an html comment is <!-- meaning that there are only supposed to be 2
dashes required, not 3. The result would be that something like this
<!----> would not automatically close, because the current index tracker
would jump over the first 3 dashes when it begins a comment, and the
remaining unprocessed string would be ->

Also, because of the broken lookahead in hasPrefix(), a comment could
actually be started with just <!- not requiring a second dash at all.

ae6dc7d6df Fix qt_scrollRectInImage when scrolling outside of the image
We were clipping the source rect to the image, both pre and post
scrolling, but did not apply the same logic to the target position.
By computing the target position based on the already clipped source
rect we ensure that the target position is also correct.

This was causing valgrind warnings on Linux, and crashes on Windows,
when trying to test the lower level QBackingStore::scroll() function.
The reason we were not seeing this in practice was that QWidget does
its own sanitation and clipping of the arguments before passing them
on.

As a drive-by, fix the access of image to use constBits instead of a
manual cast, and rename variables to better reflect their use.

bc4570ed24 rhi: Auto-rebuild rt by tracking attachment id and generation
Unlike the shader resource binding lists that automatically recognize

in the meantime (create() was called i.e. there may be completely

rt->create()

texture->setPixelSize(...)
texture->create()
rt->create() // this should not be needed

6f542f19bf QFontDatabase (Windows): Sanitize font requests early
After the windows font engine was no longer marking everything as
scalable we started limiting the font size of requests to the maximum
of Courier when it was requested. This was a regression from 5.8 and not
in agreement with our documentation.

The problem is that we would only make the switch from Courier to
Courier New after having already gone through the foundry-lookup and
found a closest-available font size for Courier.

With this sanitization step in the backend we can make these changes
early enough that we haven't yet adjusted e.g. the font size.

56bd1b76d2 Don't change resolve mask when setting brush doesn't change palette
After 556511f9f3, which moved the resolve
mask storage into the palette's d-pointer, modifying the resolve mask
requires a detach. As of now, we only detached when setting a different
brush, but always modified the resolve mask, which broke palettes that
shared the d-pointer (likely the global default palette).

However, detaching has negative side effects when styles set brushes on
temporary palette objects and then use that palette object's cache key
to build a cache of pixmaps. As each drawing would detach the palette
(even if the palette doesn't change, which is likely), the cache key
changes with each detach, and the cache would quickly increase in size.
This was addressed in changes d7bcdc3a44
and 1e75dcf251.

We can either detach and find other ways to address the issues from
QTBUG-65475, or we can not change the resolve mask when the brush doesn't
change and completely ignore the call.

Since QFont ignores the setting of any attribute to a value that is
identical to the current value, and since it's possible to force that
the resolve-bit is set by calling setBrush twice with different brushes,
ignoring the call seems like the better solution.

[ChangeLog][QtGui][QPalette] Setting a brush on a palette that is
identical to the current brush no longer sets the resolve mask bit for
that particular role, so items using the palette will continue to
inherit changes from parent items.

The Osaka font on macOS has all zeroes in the OS/2 table, probably
because it is not intended to be cross-platform. In Qt 6 (since

same vertical metrics on all platforms, but this only works if

To work around this issue, we detect the case when ascent/descent

so we fall back to the system-provided ascent and descent in these
cases.

Adding the test also revealed that we had missed the check for

71faedc5b4 Fix deserializing Qt 5.x fonts through QDataStream
In Qt 5, fonts had both singular family and plural families properties,
and both were stored separately when streaming through QDataStream. The
families list was treated as an extension of family in this case, and
the primary font family was always the singular family property.

In Qt 6, it has been merged into one and family() is now just a
convenience for families().at(0).

But when reading files generated with Qt 5, we would ignore the fact
that these were previously separated. We would first read the family
entry into the families list, and then we would later overwrite this
with an empty families list.

Instead, we detect streams created with Qt 5.15 or lower and make sure
we append the families list instead of overwriting it in this case. In
addition, we need to make sure we split up the list again when
outputting to Qt 5.x.

This adds a file generated with QDataStream in Qt 5.15 to the test to
verify.

[ChangeLog][Fonts] Fixed a problem deserializing the family of fonts
that had been serialized using QDataStream in Qt 5.

f54044d4a9 Fix cursor placement at left and right ends of bidi text
In a text line that has a change of direction at either end of the text,
the cursor needs to be positioned where the next character is inserted,
or where backspace deletes the previous character. In bidi text, this is
ambiguous as illustrated by this example:

abcشزذ

Depending on whether this string was typed in a left-to-right document
or in a right-to-left document, it could be first latin, then arabic; or
it could be first arabic, then latin.

If a general left-to-right context, cursor position 0 should be in front
of the 'a', and cursor position 6 should be at the end of the arabic
text, in the visual middle of the line. Cursor position 3 can be either
after the 'c' if the next character typed would be latin, or at the
visual end of the line if the next character will be arabic.

Qt calculated the cursor position past the right end of the text as 3
(which is not wrong, but 3 has two visual positions), and placed the
cursor at the visual end of the line (favoring the right-to-left
alternative). Backspace would then delete the 'c', writing a new
latin character would insert a 'd' next to the 'c', writing a new arabic
character would insert it also in the middle - none of these operations
happen at the visual end of the line, where the cursor was blinking.

To fix this, we take into account the general layout of the text, which
is typically based on the document, or the user's locale setting and UI
translation, and calculate the cursor position accordingly: if we are
past the visual end of the document on either side, then the cursor
position is either 0 or the last character of the text, depending on the
direction of the QTextEngine used. This way, the cursor ends up in the
middle of the document when we click beyond the end of the line, which
is where characters are removed and inserted. Typing a 'd' at this point
will make the cursor jump to the end, where the d is added.

There are still corner cases: clicking on the right-most arabic character
calculates the cursor position as 3, which is then ambiguous, as it can
be either at the visual end of the string, or next to the 'c'. َQt makes
the inconsistent choice to place the cursor at the visual end, showing
the left-to-right indicator, but pressing a 'd' adds the 'd' after the
'c' in the middle of the text.

5e55297ee0 Markdown writer: indent fence consistent with code block

Now with this change, either way is rewritable: you can read markdown

8513bcd90c Fix caching of parsed border color values in CSS parser
When parsing CSS, a border-color value is parsed as four brushes, as css
allows assigning up to four values, one for each side.

When applying the CSS to the HTML, we accessed it as a color value,
which overwrote the parsed value with a QColor. So while we had a valid
parsed value (and didn't re-parse), the code accessing that value still
expected it to be a list, and thus failed to retrieve the data.

There are several ways to fix that, but the cleanest way without
introducing any performance penalty from repeatedly parsing (and in fact
removing a parse of the string into a color) is to enable colorValue to
interpret an already parsed value that is a list without overwriting the
parsed value again. To avoid similar issues in the future, add assert
that the parsed value has the right type in brushValues.

As a drive-by, speed things up further by making use of qMetaTypeId
being constexpr, which allows for it to be used in a switch statement.

Add a test case.

b4bb3a5415 Introduce QDoubleValidator::setRange overload with two parameters
The QDoubleValidator::setRange() used to have 3 parameters, with
the third one (the number of decimals) having a default value of 0.
Such default value does not make much sense for a *double* validator.
Also, since a default value was used, omitting the decimals was
silently overwriting the previous decimals value, discarding the
value that could be previously explicitly specified by user.

[ChangeLog][QtCore][QDoubleValidator][Important Behavior Changes] The
QDoubleValidator::setRange() method now has two overloads.
The first overload takes 3 parameters, but does not support a
default value for decimals.
The second overload takes only two parameters, not changing the
number of decimals at all.
Hence, the number of decimals will only be changed if the user
explicitly specifies it.
To maintain the old behavior of setRange(), pass 0 as the 3rd
argument explicitly.

Note that it is a source-incompatible change. But it should be fine,
because using QDoubleValidator with 0 digits after decimal point does
not make much sense and so, hopefully, is not that common.

At the same time, change the default-constructed QDoubleValidator
to use -1 for decimals, which allows arbitrarily many digits in
the fractional part. The value was previously 1000, which allowed
more than anyone would reasonably use, so this should make no
practical difference.

Some more unit tests to cover the behavior of the setRange()
overloads are also added.

As a dirve-by: remove unnecessary QValidator::State to int conversions
in the unit tests. QCOMPARE is capable of comparing these enums and
provides a better output in case of failure for enums.

This matches most other backends in fact, the Vulkan backend has
just certain historical differences, and is complicated due to the
fact that it has the option of using secondary command buffers for

to issue direct Vulkan commands in a code block surrounded by calls
to beginExternal and endExternal).

Not resetting state such as the currently bound index buffer when
starting a pass quickly blows up when two consecutive render passes
use different settings, one targeting the primary while the other
the secondary command buffer. Instead of further complicating the
logic, just reset the relevant state in every begin(Compute)Pass.

Comes with an autotest that is crafted so that it manages to

e0ad2cee55 Fix querying font aliases that share name with other fonts
a332f3fabc disabled resolving all fonts
on the system for every font lookup, which was a significant startup
time improvement. But it also caused a regression: When a font has
an alias which shares the name of a proper font, then this would
not be resolved correctly.

This is fairly typical on Windows/GDI due to backwards-compatibility.
Instead of being collected under a shared typographical family, fonts
are disambiguated by adding the style name to the family name. The
proper typographical name is still available, but this is not
enumerated by the system.

So "Segoe UI" for instance, will be available as "Segoe UI",
"Segoe UI Light", "Segoe UI Bold" etc.

When we populate family aliases, we register that "Segoe UI Light"
is actually "Segoe UI" with Light weight, and prior to
a332f3fabc this would be done implicitly.

But after the optimization, we would only populate family aliases once
we stumbled over a font request for a non-existent font. For "Segoe UI",
we would simply return the regular weight font as the best imperfect
match.

The fix is to populate font family aliases not only when the family is
non-existent, but when the match is imperfect, e.g. if we are asking
for a Light weight font and only finding a regular one. User code can
still avoid this somewhat expensive operation by using the full
family names on Windows.

This also requires a fix to a test. When removeApplicationFont() is
called, we invalidate the font database, so it will be reset to a state
that does not contain the family aliases. Therefore we cannot guarantee
that it is identical to what it was before the test started, since this
depends on what has happened previously in the application.

[ChangeLog][QtGui][Text] Fixed an issue where some font styles and weights
would not be selectable. This was especially noticeable on Windows.

43a63901f4 Fix bug with NoFontMerging when font does not support script
When using NoFontMerging, no fallbacks should be resolved. If the
font does not support a specific character in the text, we should
display a box instead of merging it with another font.

But in practice, Qt would still apply the fallback mechanism for
one specific case: If the font itself does not support the script
of the text, we would get no match and do a search for a fallback
instead. Since NoFontMerging is set, we would then force this
as preresolved for *all* scripts in the QFont's private data
(logically, the match should only have a single response for
NoFontMerging).

The end result was that if you set the font family before updating
the text, you would get broken rendering. This can happen e.g. in
Qt Quick, where you could update the font family of a text label
while it contains characters which are not supported by the new
font. Qt would then pick a fallback instead. When you subsequently
update the text, the fallback would already be preresolved for
whatever script this is. If it does not support the updated text,
we would then see boxes, even if the requested font actually would
have supported it.

The fix is simply to do an additional pass if NoFontMerging is set
and we were not able to match with the specified script. Since
the same family might be available in different foundries, with
different writing system support, we still want to do a pass first
to see if we can match the exact script of the text.

Note that QRawFont::fromFont() exploited the bug by using
NoFontMerging for getting the fallback font for a specific
writing system. To keep this working without having to rewrite
fromFont() and risk introducing regressions, we add an argument
to make the findFont() function behave as before. It isn't
super-pretty, but since it is private API it is hopefully fine.

[ChangeLog][QtGui][Text] Fixed an issue with NoFontMerging and
changing font families dynamically, where boxes would be seen in
place of the correct text.

bef57b317f testlib: Deprecate QWARN() in favor of qWarning()
The QtTest best practices documentations recommends using output
mechanisms such as qDebug() and qWarning() for diagnostic messages,
and this is also what most of our own tests do.

The QWARN() macro and corresponding internal QTest::qWarn() function
was added when QtTest was first implemented, but was likely meant as
an internal implementation detail, like its cousin QTestLog::info(),
which does not have any corresponding macro.

This theory is backed by our own QtTest self-test (tst_silent)
describing the output from QWARN() as "an internal testlib warning".

The only difference between QWARN() and qWarning(), besides the much
richer feature set of the latter, is that qWarning() will not pass
on file and line number information in release mode, but QWARN() will.
This is an acceptable loss of functionality, considering that the user
can override this behavior by defining QT_MESSAGELOGCONTEXT.

In debug builds or when QT_RHI_LEAK_CHECK is set, one will get the

ff6156204d QColorTrcLut: hold in shared_ptr
... instead of raw pointers or QSharedPointer.

Raw pointers are, of course, a no-no in modern code. In particular,
when the result is then held in shared_ptr or QSharedPointer,
make_shared or QSharedPointer::create() should be used to reduce
number of memory allocations.

Since this is private API, we're free to use std::shared_ptr, which
does only half the atomic operations on copies, compared to
QSharedPointer, so is more efficient.

For either make_shared or QSharedPointer::create(), we need to work
around the private ctor, which we do by inheriting a member-function
local class from QColorTrcLut and make_shared'ing that. As a
member-function-local class, it has access to the otherwise private
parts of QColorTrcLut, including its default constructor. As a public
subclass, shared_ptr has no problem performing the derived-to-base
pointer adjustment in the return statement. This way, we can use
make_shared even though our target's class' ctor is private.
