GCC: explicitely instantiate JSObject::ApplyAttributesToDictionary for NumberDictionary elements.cc invokes ApplyAttributesToDictionary using NumberDictionary as its template parameter. But the declaration of the template method is in js-object.cc, so nobody can actually compile the version for number dictionary. This is fixed requesting explicit instantiation for NumberDictionary. This was breaking GCC build. [debug] Fully implement Debug::ArchiveDebug and Debug::RestoreDebug. I have a project that embeds V8 and uses a single `Isolate` from multiple threads. The program runs just fine, but sometimes the inspector doesn't stop on the correct line after stepping over a statement that switches threads behind the scenes, even though the original thread is restored by the time the next statement is executed. After some digging, I discovered that the `Debug::ArchiveDebug` and `Debug::RestoreDebug` methods, which should be responsible for saving/restoring this `ThreadLocal` information when switching threads, currently don't do anything. This commit implements those methods using MemCopy, in the style of other Archive/Restore methods in the V8 codebase. Report late-bound scripts to the debugger Previously, if an unbound script was created in a non-inspected context, but later bound to an inspected one, it never appeared in the debugger sources. After this change `OnAfterCompile` will be invoked not on the original script compilation, but when it's actually bound to a context for execution, which means `Debugger.scriptParsed` will be now sent to the inspector even for such precompiled scripts. Use NtCurrentTeb() in GetStackStart() to fix 64-bit Wine on macOS When running 64-bit Windows binaries on macOS using Wine, there is a conflict between macOS's use of GS to point to pthread thread-specific data, and Windows' use of GS to point to the TEB. Apple has reserved some TSD slots for use by Wine to store commonly-used TEB members (such as 0x30, the 'Self' pointer to the TEB). But, other direct GS accesses by Windows programs (such as to 'StackBase') will return macOS pthread data rather than the TEB member. This was causing a V8 unit test to crash on macOS under Wine. Using NtCurrentTeb() gets the 'Self' pointer first, then dereferences it to access the correct 'StackBase', fixing the crash. This turns GetStackStart() from one instruction into two. Chrome (http://crrev.com/c/2380425) and Crashpad also use NtCurrentTeb(). The 32-bit change isn't needed, but is just for consistency. OwnedByAddressingOperand should also allow uses by ProtectedLoad ProtectedLoad/ProtectedStore opcodes are used in WebAssembly to represent memory accesses. Since they are not part of the allowed opcodes in OwnedByAddressingOperand it is not possible to take advantage of addressing modes to encode common patterns for the pointer input value. Add Isolate::DiscardThreadSpecificMetadata method to embedder API. If many threads use the same Isolate (or many Isolates) and then terminate, their PerIsolateThreadData objects are never cleaned up, resulting in a slow memory leak and, worse, the PerIsolateThreadData chain getting larger and larger, adversely affecting performance. In this situation, embedders will now be encouraged to apply DiscardThreadSpecificMetadata against any Isolate a thread is done with, especially if the thread is about to terminate. Note that it is harmless to run DiscardThreadSpecificMetadata against an Isolate for which a thread has no thread data and per-Isolate thread data can be reestablished if a thread starts using an Isolate again after running DiscardThreadSpecificMetadata against it. It is, however, an embedder error to run DiscardThreadSpecificMetadata against an Isolate in thread with a Locker for the Isolate in the stack or against an Entered Isolate. This change cannot cause any change in behavior in existing apps as the only added coded can only be reached via the new DiscardThreadSpecificMetadata method. Correct removal of redundant moves The logic for removing while iterating is non-standard and a left over from a previous index based loop. This patch replaces it with a standard erase based version. This fixes a runtime crash with MSVC that invalidates the iterator and then asserts. This also makes the code safe in case the last move can be redundant. [api] Make running scripts in AddMessageListener callback work in debug mode The existance of an `AllowJavascriptExecutionDebugOnly` scope in `Isolate::ReportPendingMessages()` indicates that the API supports running arbitrary JS code in a `AddMessageListener` callback. Currently, this can fail in debug mode: The `!isolate->external_caught_exception()` condition is checked when entering API methods inside such a handler. However, if there is a verbose `TryCatch` active when the exception occurs, this check fails, and when calling `ToString()` on the exception object leaves a pending exception itself, the flag is re-set to `true`. Fix this problem by clearing the flag and the pending exception if there was one during `ToString()`. This matches the code a few lines up in `messages.cc`, so the exception state is now consistent during the callback. This currently makes a Node.js test fail in debug mode (`parallel/test-error-reporting`). [typedarray] Use fast path for Float32Array.from(float_64_array) and similar Currently, because the source float_64_array has an iterator, it hits the code in the "check_iterator" section of TypedArrayFrom which calls IterableToList. This builds a temporary PACKED_ELEMENTS array (and boxes all of the numeric values as HeapNumbers), then uses this as the source array. This patch checks if the source array is a TypedArray, and if the iterator is the built-in one (where we know the iterator's behaviour). If both are true then it bypasses the creation of this temporary array and uses the original TypedArray as the source. This allows it to take advantage of the existing fast code for copying one typed array to another. [debug] Fully implement Debug::ArchiveDebug and Debug::RestoreDebug. I have a project that embeds V8 and uses a single `Isolate` from multiple threads. The program runs just fine, but sometimes the inspector doesn't stop on the correct line after stepping over a statement that switches threads behind the scenes, even though the original thread is restored by the time the next statement is executed. After some digging, I discovered that the `Debug::ArchiveDebug` and `Debug::RestoreDebug` methods, which should be responsible for saving/restoring this `ThreadLocal` information when switching threads, currently don't do anything. This commit implements those methods using MemCopy, in the style of other Archive/Restore methods in the V8 codebase. [cpu-profile] Timestamps in tracing events args stay in monotonic time On Linux, Perfetto translates the builtin "ts" timestamp in trace event from CLOCK_MONOTONIC to CLOCK_BOOTTIME, before passing them to devtools. Devtools therefore implicitly operates on timestamps that are in CLOCK_BOOTTIME. However, additional timestamps sent in trace event payload arguments will not be converted to CLOCK_BOOTTIME by Perfetto, raising the possibility of devtools using timestamps from multiple clock domains incorrectly. Since trace events sent by CpuProfile also include the builtin "ts" trace timestamp (sampled from CLOCK_MONOTONIC nearly at the same time by the tracing framework), sending "data.startTime" and "data.endTime" is essentially redundant. devtools-frontend:2113957 stops the use of the value of these timestamps in the payload of Profile and ProfileChunk events. Devtools continue to use the presence of these arguments to indentify start and end profile events. ProfileChunk events also include "timeDeltas" which are relative timestamps. They are also in CLOCK_MONOTONIC and are not translated by Perfetto. devtools-frontend:2113957 computes absolute CLOCK_BOOTTIME timestamps from timeDeltas by adding them to "ts" in the "Profile" event (previously, "data.startTime" was used). This is only valid if the system is not suspended/resumed during profiling. Providing support for suspend/resume in the middle of profiling will likely involve having Perfetto convert "timeDeltas" directly to CLOCK_BOOTTIME. This CL introduces no code changes and only adds comments to explain the above. Re-detect the host time zone if requested by an embedder Add an enum argument to DateTimeConfigurationChangeNotification to control whether or not to redetect the host time zone. The default value kSkip doesn't cause redetecting so that callers do not need to change if they want the current behavior (e.g. Chromium). Note that the host time zone detection does not work when v8 is run inside a sandbox as in Chromium so that Chromium detects the host time zone outside the sandbox before calling DateTimeConfigurationChangeNotification. OTOH, other v8 embedders may find it more convenient for v8 to do the host time zone detection on their behalf. In that case, they can call the function with the new argument set to value kRedetect. [regexp] Fix and unify non-unicode case-folding algorithms Non-unicode, case-insensitive regexps (e.g. /foo/i, not foo/iu) use a case-folding algorithm that doesn't quite match the Unicode definition. There are two places in irregexp that need to do case-folding. Prior to this patch, neither of them quite matched the spec (https://tc39.es/ecma262/#sec-runtime-semantics-canonicalize-ch). This patch implements the "Canonicalize" algorithm in src/regexp/special-case.h, and uses it in the relevant places. It replaces special-case logic around upper-casing / ASCII characters with the following approach: 1. For most characters, calling UnicodeSet::closeOver on a set containing that character will produce the correct set of case-insensitive matches. 2. For a small handful of characters (like the sharp S that prompted this change), UnicodeSet::closeOver will include some characters that should be omitted. For example, although closeOver('ß') = "ßẞ", uppercase('ß') is "SS", so step 3.e means that 'ß' canonicalizes to itself, and should not match 'ẞ'. In these cases, we can skip the closeOver entirely, because it will never add an equivalent character. These characters are in the IgnoreSet. 3. For an even smaller handful of characters, UnicodeSet::closeOver will produce some characters that should be omitted, but also some characters that should be included. For example, closeOver('k') = "kKK" (lowercase k, uppercase K, U+212A KELVIN SIGN), but KELVIN SIGN should not match either of the other two (step 3.g). To handle this, we put such characters in the SpecialAddSet. In these cases, we closeOver the original character, but filter out the results that do not have the same canonical value. The computation of IgnoreSet and SpecialAddSet happens at build time, using the pre-existing gen-regexp-special-case.cc step. [build] Set MSVS .obj folders in gyp for v8_base Building on Windows with gyp fails depending on the result from sharding the src/v8.gyp:v8_base target. If two source files with the same name are in the same shard, their output object file path would conflict with one another. One example of this conflict is v8_base's runtime/runtime.cc and the V8 inspector's protocol/Runtime.cpp that is generated at build time, for which the files runtime.obj and Runtime.obj would be created, but MSVS overwrites one of them with the other. Dividing the .obj output path by the original source's extension prevents this overwrite. Make torque emit structs in classes in order Torque compiler emits a C++ class definition header class-definitions-tq.h. Unfortunately it does so in a manner that introduces randomness into the ordering of some structs. This means that every full build of V8 may yield a different header. Since this header is included in a lot of files in V8, it causes a lot of ccache misses (over a 1000). This commit makes sure that the structs are emitted in lexical order. [builtins][MIPS]: Workaround gas auto-align issue GAS have a auto-align function which will align all the directive data into it's nature boundary. And we're using .octa to present data in embedded.S, which will be auto-aligned into 128-bit boundary. It can break relatve offset in generated binary. So we workaround it by forcing generate .long DataDirective on MIPS. Also I rewoked WriteByteChunk so it can accept any kind of directive now. Further more, implementation of HexLiteral is indentical on generic, aix and mac so I merged them into base. Pass Isolate pointer to String::Utf8Value/Value constructors As part of J2V8 development (https://github.com/eclipsesource/J2V8), we realized that we had a subtle bug in how Isolate scope was created and it's lifetime managed, see: https://github.com/eclipsesource/J2V8/issues/313. Mentioned above bug was fixed, however, what we also noticed is that V8 API has been constantly and slowly moving to such an API, in which one has to pass Isolate explicitly to methods and/or constructors. We found two more places that might have been overlooked. This contribution adds passing of Isolate pointer explicitly to constructors of String::Utf8Value and String::Value classes. Improve toString(radix) for doubles near zero Currently, Number.prototype.toString(radix) often fails to produce the least significant bit for doubles near zero. For example, for the minimum double, 5e-324, toString(2) produces "0". This means that a user cannot reliably get the exact binary or hexdecimal value of a double from JavaScript using toString. This patch makes a slight amendment to the DoubleToRadixCString function, so that doubles where the gap to the next double is 5e-324 (i.e. doubles less than 2**-1021), are represented exactly in binary and other power-of-two bases, and close to exactly otherwise. It results in Number.prototype.toString producing the correct binary value for all doubles. Parser: Report use counts once per feature Reporting use counts by invoking a callback once per occurrence has a large overhead cost in certain situations, for example when it needs to be dispatched to a different thread (which is the case for Web Workers). Parsing large scripts can produce a lot of occurrences (strict/sloppy mode once per function). Chromium (the only known user of UseCounters so far) does not actually care about number of occurrences, but simply whether they happened at least once. This commit changes behavior to report features at most once, which dramatically improves performance for impacted use cases, and should not affect the only known real world usage. Fixes the build for the shell on illumos and Solaris. -D__C99FEATURES__ was added to mirror how the build is done on the normal platform. The changes in the platform code are a follow up to a prior review and has the Solaris implementation be more similar to the Linux version as opposed to the FreeBSD. Fix preview of set entries Set entries return an array with the value as first and second entry. As such these are considered key value pairs to align with maps entries iterator. ppc: Fix incorrect ABI detection v8 currently detects ABI by checking OS and endianness, but this is not sufficient to properly detect cases in which the ELFv2 ABI is used on big-endian Linux systems. Allowing map word to be used for other state in GC header. This CL adds features to pack/unpack map words. Currently V8 cannot store extra metadata in object headers -- because V8 objects do not have a proper header, but only a map pointer at the start of the object. To store per-object metadata like marking data, a side table is required as the per-object metadata storage. This CL enables V8 to use higher unused bits in a 64-bit map word as per-object metadata storage. Map pointer stores come with an extra step to encode the metadata into the pointer (we call it "map packing"). Map pointer loads will also remove the metadata bits as well (we call it "map packing"). Since the map word is no longer a valid pointer after packing, we also change the tag of the packed map word to make it looks like a Smi. This helps various GC and barrier code to correctly skip them instead of blindly dereferencing this invalid pointer. A ninja flag `v8_enable_map_packing` is provided to turn this map-packing feature on and off. [ppc64][ppc] Split up ARCH_PPC and ARCH_PPC64 After support for ARCH_PPC was dropped, it became a subset of ARCH_PPC64. If you compile for ppc64, then you set the ARCH_PPC64 define which also sets the ARCH_PPC define. To be able to again support ppc (32 bit) those defines should be split up again. This commit only splits up the defines but does not introduce a working ARCH_PPC variant. Make handle ctors explicit Without this change, the v8::Local<> constructor will be picked up by the compiler as an option for an implicit cast for any pointer type. This leads to bad error messages when accidentally passing an erroneous pointer type to a function wanting a Local<> (complains about a pointer assignment in Local<>'s constructor as opposed to a bad type for the parameter of the function being called) and also causes ambiguity errors where none should exist when calling overloaded functions (for example a function taking either a std::string or a v8::Local<v8::Script> cannot be called with a const char * because the compiler sees both types as being constructable with a const char *).
