ffb8ae4f77 [tests] Fix two tests to be --gc-interval robust
deopt-unlinked.js: bytecode flushing destroys the information that
%GetDeoptCount relies on, so turn that off for this test.

cleanupsome-after-unregister.js: the function-local object {o} is
assumed to be alive throughout the function, so make sure its live
range (from the optimizing compiler's view) extends that far.

Drive-by cleanup: drop some unnecessary casting boilerplate from
Genesis::InitializeGlobal_harmony_intl_date_format_range().

3dd5661204 [stack-trace] Include API functions in Error.stack stack trace
This CL extends Error.stack to include frames of functions declared
with the C++ FunctionTemplate API. For example, "print" in d8.

Two changes are necessary:
  - HandleApiCall and friends need to go through an BUILTIN_EXIT frame
instead of an EXIT frame. The existing stack-trace machinery will
then pick up FunctionTemplate frames without additional changes.
  - Turbofan doesn't go through HandleApiCall, but instead uses an
ASM builtin to enter FunctionTemplate functions. A "marker"
frame state is needed to include these frames in the stack trace.

Note: This CL only includes these frames in Error.stack,
but not (yet) in the stack-trace API (v8.h).

3002ff44ee [coverage] Add dedicated FunctionLiteral counters
Prior to this CL, call counts at function scope were taken from the
FeedbackVector::invocation_count field. This had two major drawbacks:
1. for generator functions, these count the number of resumptions
instead of the number of calls; and 2. the invocation count is not
maintained in optimized code.

The solution implemented here is to add a dedicated call counter at
function scope which is incremented exactly once each time the
function is called.

A minor complication is that our coverage output format expects
function-scope counts in the dedicated CoverageFunction object, and
not as a CoverageBlock. Thus function-scope block counts are initially
marked with magic positions, and later recognized and rewritten during
processing.

This CL thus fixes reported generator function call counts and enables
optimizations in block coverage modes (more to come in a follow-up).

Drive-by: Don't report functions with empty source ranges.

4b60b40aa7 [json] Make json parsing iterative
This avoids the need to throw range errors when we run out of stack, limiting
us only by available memory.

The main parser loop is implemented by two subloops.

The first subloop finishes whenever it generates primitive values, empty
arrays, or empty objects. If a non-empty object or array is started, the loop
continues to parse its first member.

The second subloop consumes produced values and either adds them to the parent
array or object, or returns it. The second loop finishes whenever a next value
needs to be produced. When the loop itself produces a finished array or object,
the loop continues.

Exceptions are handled by moving the cursor to end-of-input. Upon end-of-input,
the first loop sets the continuation to "kFail". That causes the second loop to
tear down continuation stack and related handle scopes, resulting in an empty
handle.

The CL additionally buffers all named properties and elements so we can
immediately allocate a correctly shaped object. For object elements we'll take
flat array or dictionary encoding depending on what is more efficient.

This means that element handles are now allocated in their parent HandleScope,
rather than having local handlescopes per-property (of big objects); which is
why I've adjusted the handle-count test to not allocate as many properties. In
the future it would be nice to not have to allocate (as many) handles since
almost everything in the JSON graph will survive JSON parsing...

d2ea316f2a [map] Properly share the map for builtin iterator result objects.
Previously we had a special, unshared map on the native context that was
used for results of builtin iterators, which was different from the map
that is created from an object literal like `{value, done}`. This not
only leads to unnecessary polymorphism, but also makes it impossible
for user defined iterators to take the fast-paths that we have in
various places (i.e. in collections or promises).

With this change we now properly share the map for `{value, done}` and
use that for the builtin iterator result objects, as well as the
fast-paths.

Drive-by-fix: Remove the restrictions on map caching and transition
caching during bootstrapping. This no longer makes sense.

f0e054c2c6 [constant-tracking] Disable delete optimization for constant fields.
When using the fast-properties optimization for `delete` with constant
fields we don't properly invalidate the constness on the original map
and might thereby just follow the same transition again later with the
same object, effectively violating the constness of that field. This
disables the fast-properties optimization for `delete` in case of a
field marked as "const" as a quick-fix. We might still want to change
the logic to properly invalidate the "const" bit later.

bd17f12a4b [ic] Disallow growing stores with TypedArrays in the prototype chain.
For keyed stores to JSArrays we can generally allow the receiver to grow
to the necessary size by bumping the magical length property. This works
for regular Arrays, but not in the case the prototype chain contains a
TypedArray, as that is going to swallow all stores that are considered
out-of-bounds for it.

We don't wanna deal with that kind of complexity in the IC handlers, so
we just refuse to handle that case (also giving TurboFan the signal that
it shouldn't attempt to handle growing stores in that case).

4672b86586 [wasm] Implement the ref.func instruction
I did the implementation with a runtime function. I extracted some code
from the implementation of table.get.

By accident I formatted anyfunc.js. However, since it's an improvement,
I don't want to undo it. I didn't change anything in the older tests
though, I only added new tests at the end.

0975c55409 [wasm][gc] Fix NativeModule::GetCode for nonexisting code
{NativeModule::GetCode} can actually return {nullptr} if no code was
compiled yet for a function, e.g. in asm.js where we use lazy
compilation. In that case, we must not try to increment the ref count
on the nonexisting code object.

We had a few errors recently that were hard to reproduce because we do
not have a flag to enable code logging. Clusterfuzz managed to
accomplish this by passing --trace-ic.
In order to test bugs in code logging properly, this CL introduces a
new runtime function called "EnableCodeLoggingForTesting". It registers
a noop {CodeEventListener} and enables code logging in the wasm engine.
We should whitelist this flag in ClusterFuzz to potentially flush out
more bugs.

This patch implements the declarations of private methods, the access

When a private methods declaration is encountered, we now:

- Create a brand symbol during class evaluation and store it in the

- Create the closures for the private methods
- Load the brand from the context and store it in the instance in the

0d8ec36b36 [ic] Do not decode instructions to detect deoptimized code.
This fixes a crash when using --trace-ic on Arm64 debug. For a given return
address, the assembler's `target_address_from_return_address()` method will
displace it to give you the call-site address. However, this is fragile because
it needs to decode the instruction stream to distinguish between different call
sequences. So it triggered an assertion on Arm64 because we now use BL for
builtin to buitin calls.

We only use this when tracing IC states to detect if the caller is a deoptimized
function. But to do this it doesn't matter if the address we have is the return
or the call-site address. So we can just remove the need for the fragile
Assembler method.

As a drive-by, also remove `return_address_from_call_start()` which was doing
the opposite and was unused.

6564c6dfc4 [map] Make field representation updates work with elements kind transitions.
Generalize the existing work-around in the method
`Map::GeneralizeIfCanHaveTransitionableFastElementsKind()` to also go to
the most general field representation (in addition to going to the most
field type) for objects with transitionable fast elements kinds. That
means that we essentially disable field representation tracking for
arrays, arguments objects and value wrappers (for which the field type
tracking is already disabled).

Drive-by-fix: Remove the `constness` parameter to the above mentioned
helper method. And fix the printing of the descriptor expectations to
properly print the field type.

758700a708 [compiler] Don't collect source positions for the top frame
While most source positions were not collected even throwing exceptions,
the top frame still was always collected as it was used to initialize
the JSMessageObject. This skips even that frame, by storing the
SharedFunctionInfo and bytecode offset in the JSMessageObject allowing
it to lazily evaluate the actual source position.

Also adds tests to test-api.cc that test each of the source position
functions in isolation to ensure that they don't rely on previous
invocations to call the source collection function.

Since no source positions are now collected at the point when an
exception is thrown, the mjsunit/stack-traces-overflow now passes again
with the flag enabled. (cctest/test-cpu-profiler/Inlining2 is now the
only failure).

9fe37d238e Reland [ic] Remove the check for fast prototypes in LoadIC_Uninitialized
This is a reland of d14ed12e56
with fix for test failures in lite mode.

When handling load named properties (without feedback vectors) we used
to miss to runtimes if the prototypes aren't set. This was because we
wanted to give the prototype a chance to become fast, since most prototypes
start in slow mode but move to fast after the initial setup. Though this
check is not really useful when we don't have feedback vectors, and once
feedback vectors are allocated we will turn the prototypes fast anyway.

df8548cd5b Touch guard pages when allocating stack frames
On Windows, expanding the stack by more than 4 KB at a time can cause
access violations. This change fixes a few known cases (and includes
unit tests for those), and attempts to make stack expansion more
consistent overall by using the AllocateStackSpace helper method
everywhere we can, even when the offset is a small constant.

On arm64, there was already a consistent method for stack pointer
manipulation using the Claim and Drop methods, so Claim is updated to
touch every page.

87b3416a87 [turbofan] Fix a bug in DepenOnStablePrototypeChains
When asked to start at the receiver and the receiver is a primitive, the
dependency should be taken on the primitive map (which is a no-op)
rather than the wrapper object's map.

1810066662 Revert "[typedarray] Make JSTypedArray::length authoritative."
This reverts commit ad44c258d7.

Reason for revert: Missed some users: crbug.com/v8/9105

Original change's description:
> [typedarray] Make JSTypedArray::length authoritative.
>
> This is the first step towards full huge typed array support in V8.
> Before this change, the JSTypedArray::length and the elements backing
> store length (FixedTypedArrayBase::length) were used more or less
> interchangeably to determine the number of elements in a JSTypedArray.
>
> With this change we disentangle these two lengths, and instead make
> JSTypedArray::length authoritative. For on-heap typed arrays, the
> FixedTypedArrayBase::length will remain the number of elements in the
> backing store, but for the off-heap typed arrays, this length will be
> set to 0 (matching the fact that the FixedTypedArrayBase instance does
> not contain any elements itself).
>
> This also unifies the JSTypedArray::set_/length() and length_value()
> methods to only have JSTypedArray::set_/length() which returns/takes
> size_t values. Currently this still requires the values to be in Smi
> range, but later we will extend this to allow arbitrary size_t values
> (in the safe integer range).

argument. If users do not care about the error type they can user the
generic type {Error}. Before this change, an undefined error type would
simply be ignored. A simple typo could therefore disable the error type
assertion without being recognized.

4995c85f28 [runtime] Optimize general object spread.
This adds a new %_CopyDataProperties intrinsic, that reuses most of the
existing machinery that we already have in place for Object.assign() and
computed property names in object literals. This speeds up the general
case for object spread (where the spread is not the first item in an
object literal) and brings it on par with Object.assign() at least - in
most cases it's significantly faster than Object.assign().

In the test case [1] referenced from the bug, the performance goes from

  objectSpreadLast: 3624 ms.
  objectAssignLast: 1938 ms.

to

  objectSpreadLast: 646 ms.
  objectAssignLast: 1944 ms.

which corresponds to a **5-6x performance boost**, making object spread
faster than Object.assign() in general.

Drive-by-fix: This refactors the Object.assign() fast-path in a way that
it can be reused appropriately for object spread, and adds another new
builtin SetDataProperties, which does the core of the Object.assign()
work. We can teach TurboFan to inline Object.assign() based on the new
SetDataProperties builtin at some later point to further optimize
Object.assign().

eb131dcc7b [wasm] Disable asan for memory_copy_wrapper
The function {memory_copy_wrapper} is called directly from WebAssembly.
Before calling {memory_copy_wrapper} we do not reset the
tread-in-wasm flag. On asan builds on Windows this causes the problem
observed in the crash report.

My theory is the following: asan on Windows uses exceptions to allocate
shadow memory lazily. When {memory_copy_wrapper} accesses memory, asan
causes an exception to allocate shadow memory. This exception is first
caught by the WebAssembly trap handler, which resets the
thread-in-wasm flag but then does not handle the exception because it
cannot find a proper landing pad. Asan then handles the exception and
continues execution. However. the thread-in-wasm flag is not set
anymore. A later check of the thread-in-wasm flag then fails.

This CL disables asan for {memory_copy_wrapper} and thereby fixes the
problem. As indicated above, another solution would be to reset and set
the thread-in-wasm flag before and after the call to the C function,
respectively. However, we do not do that for other uses of direct calls
to C.

3d846115d6 [typedarray] Fix crash when sorting SharedArrayBuffers
TypedArray#sort has a fast-path when the user does not provide a
comparison function. This fast-path utilizes std::sort which operates
directly on the raw data. Per spec, std::sort requires the "less than"
operation to be anti-symmetric and transitive.

When sorting SharedArrayBuffers (SAB) that are concurrently modified during
sorting, the "less than" operator stops being consistent as the
underlying data is constantly modified. This breaks some invariants
in std::sort resulting in infinite loops or straight out segfaults.

This CL fixes this by copying the data before sorting SABs and
writing the sorted result back.

Note: The added regression test is tailored for ASAN bots as a
normal build would need too many iterations to consistently crash.

9c0c876129 [promise] Lookup the resolve property only once
In the PerformPromise{All, Race, AllSettled} operations, the resolve
property of the constructor is looked up only once.

In the implementation, for the fast path, where the constructor's
resolve property is untainted, the resolve function is set to undefined.
Since undefined can't be a valid value for the resolve function,
we can switch on it (in CallResolve) to directly call the PromiseResolve
builtin. If the resolve property is tainted, we do an observable property
lookup, save this value, and call this property later (in CallResolve).

I ran this CL against the test262 tests locally and they all pass:

34c8443c88 [wasm][bulk-memory] Check segment bounds lazily
The bulk memory proposal changed behavior of segment initialization
during instantiation. Previously, all segments would be bounds-checked,
after which the segments would be initialized.

The bulk memory proposal removes the up-front check, and always
initializes active segments in order, starting with element segments and
then continuing with data segments. Each active segment is initialized
as-if they were being initialized with the `memory.init` and
`table.init` instructions, so an out-of-bounds initialization may still
modify the memory or table partially.

c8206043e1 [stack-trace] Use ErrorStack accessor for formatted stack traces
When a stack trace is captured, it is stored in a private symbol on
the respective Error object. The first access to "Error.stack" will
then format the stack trace, with a possible call into user JS via
the Error.prepareStackTrace callback.

Until now, the accessor converted ".stack" to a normal data
property containing the formatted stack trace. This causes a new Map
with a new DescriptorArray to be created, which will not be shared
with anything else (also not other error objects with formated
stack traces).

This CL changes the accessor to store the formatted stack trace in
the same symbol (stack_trace_symbol) as the structured data. The
result is that an error object will have the same Map before and
after "Error.stack" is accessed.

Previously when an unresolved private name is not found

This patch simplifies ClassScope::ResolvePrivateNamesPartially()
and removes the search in outer class scopes since they are incomplete
at this point. Instead just push any private name that can't be
resolved in the current scope to the outer class scope so that it
gets handled later when the outer class scope is complete.

f11ba854e5 [map] Support in-place field representation changes.
This adds a new flag --modify-field-representation-inplace (enabled by
default), which lets the runtime perform field representation changes
for Smi to Tagged or for HeapObject to Tagged in-place instead of
creating new maps and marking the previous map tree as deprecated.

That means we create (a lot) fewer Maps and DescriptorArrays in the
beginning and also need to self-heal fewer objects later (migrating
off the deprecated maps). In TurboFan we just take the "field owner
dependency" whenever we use the field representation, which is very
similar to what we already do for the field types. That means if we
change the representation of a field that we used in optimized code,
we will simply deoptimize that code and have TurboFan potentially
later optimize it again with the new field representation.

On the Speedometer2/ElmJS-TodoMVC test, this reduces the total execution
time from around 415ms to around 352ms, which corresponds to a **15%**
improvement. The overall Speedometer2 score improves from around 74.1
to around 78.3 (on local runs with content_shell), corresponding to a
**5.6%** improvement here. 🎉

On the CNN desktop browsing story, it seems that we reduce map space
utilization/fragmentation by about 4-5%. But since we allocate a lot
less (fewer Maps and DescriptorArrays) we also significantly change
the GC timing, which heavily influences the results here. So take this
with a grain of salt. 🤷

Note: For Double fields, this doesn't change anything, meaning they
still create new maps and deprecate the previous map trees.

wasm-module-builder.js is also changed to use the new syntax for specifying a table
index in an element segment. In the MVP, the table index was always zero. The
reference types proposal adds support for multiple tables, and originally used this
value to specify a non-zero table index. The bulk memory proposal needed a way to
specify a passive element segment, so it re-purposed the table index as a flags field
and uses a different field for the table index.

f8d1169622 [regexp] Ensure ToString(replaceValue) is called once in @@replace
@@replace should only call ToString(replaceValue) once. Prior to this
CL this was not the case when

1. the given regexp is fast
2. the replacement is not callable
3. and its string representation contains a '$'.

In such a situation we'd call ToString both in the RegExpReplace
builtin, and after bailing out again in the RegExpReplaceRT runtime
function.

The fix is to pass the result of ToString(replaceValue) to the runtime
function. ToString in RegExpReplaceRT will be a no-op since the value
is already guaranteed to be a string.

0bed5887bf [wasm] Support reference types on interpreter entry.
This adds preliminary support for references types as argument or return
values to functions that are redirected to the interpreter. The current
interpreter entry stub remains unchanged, using one buffer area that is
hidden from the GC. The corresponding {Runtime_WasmRunInterpreter} now
correctly boxes/un-boxes reference types into handles. This switch to a
handlified representation happens before any method that potentially
triggers a GC is called.

9010424ff5 Reland "[wasm] Implement table.init for interpreter"
This is a reland of 63608968b6

The previous CL failed on Windows, but it was a general bug. The
dropped_elem_segments was not being set on the instance properly in
cctests, so`table.init` instructions would fail by reading uninitialized
data.

I took this opportunity to also add an implementation of
`elem.drop` in the interpreter, and ported the JS tests for those too.

Original change's description:
> [wasm] Implement table.init for interpreter
>
> This also fixes CheckCallViaJS when a trap occurs. In that case, the
> trap callback is called instead of an exception being thrown, so if it
> isn't handled, a bogus result will be returned instead.

fd2b56f7c8 [objects] Fix TestElementsIntegrityLevel for typed arrays
Typed arrays with elements cannot be frozen, but this function
previously would have falsely reported that they are after
an `Object.freeze()` call. Since the latter bails out when
the object is already frozen, the effect was that when calling
`Object.freeze()` on a typed array more than once, the first call
would throw and subsequent ones would not.

2b7fdbfc75 [wasm] Fix lifetime of reference values on interpreter stack.
This ensures the lifetime of reference values on the simulated operand
stack of the interpreter is coupled to a lifetime of the {ThreadImpl}.
We no longer directly store reference values on the stack, but maintain
a separate "reference stack" on the GC'ed heap. This will ensure the GC
traces such references properly.

The new {StackValue} safety wrapper makes sure all use-sites that access
the operand stack properly convert to/from handles when dealing with
reference values.

ad44c258d7 [typedarray] Make JSTypedArray::length authoritative.

7629afdb9d [lite] Allocate feedback vectors lazily
Allocate feedback vectors lazily when the function's interrupt budget has
reached a specified threshold. This cl introduces a new field in the
ClosureFeedbackCellArray to track the interrupt budget for allocating
feedback vectors. Using the interrupt budget on the bytecode array could
cause problems when there are closures across native contexts and we may
delay allocating feedback vectors in one of them causing unexpected
performance cliffs. In the long term we may want to remove interrupt budget
from bytecode array and use context specific budget for tiering up decisions
as well.

8cbcae37db [wasm] Handle rejected input promise in WebAssembly.compileStreaming
In the implementation of WebAssembly.compileStreaming and
WebAssembly.instantiateStreaming, we did not handle the case where the
input, which is a Promise, gets rejected. When this Promise got
rejected, the Promise returned by compileStreaming remained pending
forever.

With this CL, the rejection object of the input Promise gets forwarded
to the result Promise.

I also extended the --wasm-test-streaming flag to provide
WebAssembly.compileStreaming and WebAssembly.instantiateStreaming
in d8. The difference to the Chrome versions of these function is
that d8 does not know about Response objects. That's why in d8
compileStreaming and instantiateStreaming expect a Promise to an
ArrayBuffer or a TypedArray and not to a Response object.

2970249a72 [mjsunit] Do not generate compiler traces for the entire snapshot.
The `compiler-trace-flags.js` test just makes sure the various --trace-turbo*

generate a *lot* of output as they were tracing the compiler while generating
the snapshot.

Let's set the `--trace-turbo-filter` flag to make sure we only trace the test
functions. Sadly, WASM functions do not have a name, just an index, so we have
to split this test into two.

2d9ec0a420 Reland: [wasm][anyref] Add support of call-indirect for multiple tables
The reason for the revert was that Liftoff did not bail out on indirect
calls to tables other than table 0. Whenever the Liftoff code got
executed, the test would fail.

Original message:
With this CL it is possible to use any anyfunc table in call-indirect,
not just the first table.

The current implementation is based on runtime calls. This is just an
initial implementation which should be replaced by a
dispatch-table-based eventually. However, this implementation allows
us to move forward with the anyref proposal implementation.

9d167f57e0 [wasm][anyref] Add support of call-indirect for multiple tables
With this CL it is possible to use any anyfunc table in call-indirect,
not just the first table.

The current implementation is based on runtime calls. This is just an
initial implementation which should be replaced by a
dispatch-table-based eventually. However, this implementation allows
us to move forward with the anyref proposal implementation.

d6a60a0ee1 [turbofan] Significantly improve ConsString creation performance.
This change significantly improves the performance of string
concatenation in optimized code for the case where the resulting string
is represented as a ConsString. On the relevant test cases we go from

  serializeNaive: 10762 ms.
  serializeClever: 7813 ms.
  serializeConcat: 10271 ms.

to

  serializeNaive: 10278 ms.
  serializeClever: 5533 ms.
  serializeConcat: 10310 ms.

which represents a 30% improvement on the "clever" benchmark, which
tests specifically the ConsString creation performance.

This was accomplished via a couple of different steps, which are briefly
outlined here:

  1. The empty_string gets its own map, so that we can easily recognize
and handle it appropriately in the TurboFan type system. This
allows us to express (and assert) that the inputs to NewConsString
are non-empty strings, making sure that TurboFan no longer creates
"crippled ConsStrings" with empty left or right hand sides.
  2. Further split the existing String types in TurboFan to be able to
distinguish between OneByte and TwoByte strings on the type system
level. This allows us to avoid having to dynamically lookup the
resulting ConsString map in case of ConsString creation (i.e. when
we know that both input strings are OneByte strings or at least
one of the input strings is TwoByte).
  3. We also introduced more finegrained feedback for the Add bytecode
in the interpreter, having it collect feedback about ConsStrings,
specifically ConsOneByteString and ConsTwoByteString. This feedback
can be used by TurboFan to only inline the relevant code for what
was seen so far. This allows us to remove the Octane/Splay specific
magic in JSTypedLowering to detect ConsString creation, and instead
purely rely on the feedback of what was seen so far (also making it
possible to change the semantics of NewConsString to be a low-level
operator, which is only introduced in SimplifiedLowering by looking
at the input types of StringConcat).
  4. On top of the before mentioned type and interpreter changes we added
     new operators CheckNonEmptyString, CheckNonEmptyOneByteString, and
CheckNonEmptyTwoByteString, which perform the appropriate (dynamic)
     checks.

There are several more improvements that are possible based on this, but
since the change was already quite big, we decided not to put everything
into the first change, but do some follow up tweaks to the type system,
and builtin optimizations later.

1cb05f1ff4 [await] Update async iterators to return a rejected promise on error
This implements the behavior discussed and specified here:
https://github.com/tc39/ecma262/issues/1461
https://github.com/tc39/ecma262/pull/1470

As part of making this change, I realized that we didn't actually
toggle the behavior between the optimized and unoptimized version
based on the --harmony-await-optimization flag at all and just the
unoptimized version by default.

This patch removes the unoptimized version and uses the optimized
version as the default.

The other builtins that use this flag are not touched as part of this
CL, they will be updated separately.

d922171717 [turbofan] Unify code that determines a JSCreate's map
There were four places where we did essentially the same steps in
order to extract the initial map for inlining a JSCreate operation.
This CL creates a function on NodeProperties for this task.

As a side effect, this fixes a bug in ReduceJSCreateArray, where
has_initial_map could get called when it wasn't permissible to do so.

Notes: For simplicity, in one or two places where we used to get the
target/newtarget constants from the types we now get them from
HeapConstant nodes.

Cosmetic change: rename "receiver_map" to the more accurate
"root_map" in JSNativeContextSpecialization::ExtractReceiverMaps.
