d6edbdd436 Implements a new API to set a function entry hook for profiling.
Exposes a new API; V8::SetFunctionEntryHook.
If a non-NULL function entry hook is set, the code generator(s) will invoke on the entry hook at the very start of each generated function.

1028cf2631 Optimize the equality check case of ICCompare stubs.
This includes specialcasing the generation when we know that the maps
of the two objects are the same. In addition, a new specialized
compare ic known objects cache is created.

The reason for the cache is that we need to have access to the stub
code from the roots; if we do not, the GC will collect the stub. In
this specialized case we use the map pointer as key in the cache, and
we always do a lookup before generating code. Actually hitting
something in the cache will happen very rarely, but we could
potentially overwrite an existing stub, which again will lead to the
GC collecting this old stub (even if it is referenced from other code
objects)

1e9a7267ab Introduce extended mode.
This CL introduces a third mode next to the non-strict
(henceforth called 'classic mode') and 'strict mode'
which is called 'extended mode' as in the current
ES.next specification drafts. The extended mode is based on
the 'strict mode' and adds new functionality to it. This
means that most of the semantics of these two modes
coincide.

The 'extended mode' is entered instead of the 'strict mode'
during parsing when using the 'strict mode' directive
"use strict" and when the the harmony-scoping flag is
active. This should be changed once it is fully specified how the 'extended mode' is entered.

This change introduces a new 3 valued enum LanguageMode
(see globals.h) corresponding to the modes which is mostly
used by the frontend code. This includes the following
components:
* (Pre)Parser
* Compiler
* SharedFunctionInfo, Scope and ScopeInfo
* runtime functions: StoreContextSlot,
  ResolvePossiblyDirectEval, InitializeVarGlobal,
  DeclareGlobals

The old enum StrictModeFlag is still used in the backend
when the distinction between the 'strict mode' and the 'extended mode' does not matter. This includes:
* SetProperty runtime function, Delete builtin
* StoreIC and KeyedStoreIC
* StubCache

e49d533b50 Reapply "Add a level of indirection to exception handler addresses."
Original commit message:

Add a level of indirection to exception handler addresses.

To support deoptimization of exception handlers, the handler address in the
stack is converted to a pair of code object and an index into a separate
table of code offsets. The index part is invariant under deoptimization.
The index is packed into the handler state field so that handler size does
not change.

06bea35f7f Simplify and optimize ToBoolean handling.
Changing our builtin JavaScript code slightly, we can make sure that we never
see internal objects as arguments for ToBoolean at runtime. Removing that case
from the stub generator and crankshaft makes things a lot easier.

Heap numbers can never be undetectable (only strings and spec objects can), so
we can leave out a useless test.

Try to re-use a non-null register value when returning 'true' in some cases.

Removed special handling of the 'handle all' case, it will very probably never
happen in real code and only makes things more complicated.

e48ec1c4bd Use type info for the ToBoolean translation in crankshaft.
To do this, the Branch instruction needs to carry around a temporary register,
but only when the crankshafted code will make a map access. When the
crankshafted code sees an object of a type it hasn't encountered before, it will
always trigger a deopt. Another option in theses cases would be calling a
ToBooleanStub which can handle all types, but then one has to be careful to
*not* trigger a GC (which is currently a bit tricky to achieve).

Const-corrected ToBoolean::Types. Moved the NeedsMap logic into ToBoolean::Types
itself, where it belongs.

This patch improves a lot of benchmarks, crypto-orig even by 16.7%, but slows
down others. The slowdown has to be investigated, but I'd like to get this patch
out first to fix the flakiness problems we currently have due to the previous
crankshafted ToBoolean.

73f8cec70e Do not explicitly record undetectable objects in the ToBoolean stub.
Loading the map within the stub already implies a check for an undetectable
object, so there is no need to record this separately. Furthermore, this brings
the size of the type info to record down to 8 bits, removing the need to find a
place for the ninth bit in the Code object. ;-)

f7138b1427 Implement a type recording ToBoolean IC.
The IC records the set of types it has seen, e.g. {String} or {Boolean,
Undefined}, etc. Note that in theory this could lead to a large number of
different ToBoolean ICs (512, to be exact, because we distinguish 9 types),
but in practice only a small handful of them are actually generated.

Currently the type recording part is only implemented on ia32, other platforms
continue to work like they did before, though.

6f775f2fb0 Fix calls of strict mode function with an implicit receiver.
Only IA32 version for now. I'll start porting.

Strict mode functions are to get 'undefined' as the receiver when
called with an implicit receiver. Modes are bad! It forces us to have
checks on all function calls.

This change attempts to limit the cost by passing information about
whether or not a call is with an implicit or explicit receiver in ecx
as part of the calling convention. The cost is setting ecx on all
calls and checking ecx on entry to strict mode functions.

Implicit/explicit receiver state has to be maintained by ICs. Various
stubs have to not clobber ecx or save and restore it.

CallFunction stub needs to check if the receiver is implicit when it
doesn't know from the context.

Better support for 'polymorphic' JS and external arrays

Allow keyed store/load stubs to switch between external array and fast JS arrays without forcing a state transition to the generic stub.

There CL consists of two pieces of functionality. First, code stubs for fast element arrays don't immediately transition to the MEGAMORPHIC state when there's a map mismatch. Second, two ICs are cached per map for fast elements, the MONOMORPHIC version, and a new MEGAMORPHIC version that handles two or more different maps and dispatches to shared stubs to perform the array operation.

Change the ARM exit frame to have the same layout as the IA32 exit frame. This basically re-arranges the order of fp and sp and changes the sp location of the entry frame to hold the sp used by the gc and not the sp for popping the arguments. This removes the option of tearing down the frame and returning using one ldm instruction.

The main motivation for this is to avoid pushing an alignment word before generating the entry frame. The GC handling of optimized frames process the registers pushed as part of a safepoint and asumes that these are at the top of the frame, so if an alignment word is pushed this processing will be one off.

The alignment handling in the C entry stub have also been simplified. Now the value of lr is stored to a stack slot already reserved avoiding pushing it and keeping track of "frame skew".

This does result in more instructions in the exit frame on ARM, but we can look into improving this later.

8a9eeaf8da Reapply change to with/arguments interaction.
This is svn r6415 with a bugfix.

The bug was that we can have scopes with 0 heap slots (functions with
such scopes do not need a local context) and scopes with at least
Context::MIN_CONTEXT_SLOTS. The code generator only allocated a local
context if there were strictly more than Context::MIN_CONTEXT_SLOTS.
Before the change to with/arguments, it was impossible to actually get
a function scope with exactly Context::MIN_CONTEXT_SLOTS because every
such scope included a heap-allocated arguments (and arguments shadow)
slot.

426f13e084 Fix GC issue in instanceof stub
The the call of the builtin in InstanceofStub was not correctly protected with an internal frame leading to the return address being handled as a pointer during GC.

Marked the Instanceof stub as allowing stub calls (the RecordWriteStub was removed some days ago).

This issue was not caught by the assertion designed for this when debug mode is run with --debug-code (which out tests always does) as generating code for Abort set the allow stub calls flag to true. This has been fixed by restoring the allow stub calls flag correctly.

7311e10fdb Optimize instanceof further
If the instance of is performed against what is beliwed to be a constant global function inline the instance of check and have the call to the instanceof stub in deferred code. The inlined check will be patched by the instanceof stub when called from deferred code. This is indicated by the lithium instruction LInstanceOfKnownGlobal.

To help the patching the delta from the return address to the patch site is placed just below the return address in the edi slot of the pushad/popad ares. This is safe because the edi register (which is pushed last) is a temporary for the lithium instruction.

As the instanceof stub can call other JavaScript an additional marking for saving all double registers have been added.

Also tweaked the instanceof stub to produce true/false objects instead of 0/1 for the case with deferred code.

429f3cf9f2 Direct call to native RegExp code from JavaScript.
Calls to RegExp no longer have to be via a call to the runtime system. A new stub have been added which can handle this call in generated code. The stub checks all the parameters and creates RegExp entry frame in the same way as it is created by the runtime system. Bailout to the runtime system is done whenever an uncommon situation is encountered or when the static data used is not initialized. After running the native RegExp code the last match info is updated like in the runtime system.

Currently only ASCII strings are handled.

Added another argument to the RegExp entry frame. It indicated whether the call is direct from JavaScript code or through the runtime system. This information is used when RegExp execution is interrupted. If an interruption happens when RegExp code is called directly a retry is issued causing the interruption to be handled via the runtime system. The reason for this is that the direct call to RegExp code does not support garbage collection.

The problem was that the IC code calls a stub, which can allocate and

It also bails out if adding two one character strings as Heap::AllocateConsString has special handling of this utilizing the symbol table. The stub is used both for the binary add operation and for StringAdd calls from runtime JavaScript files. Extended the string add test to cover all sizes of flat result stings.

b7d48f5807 A bunch of changes to speed up math on ARM.
* Identify heap numbers that contain non-Smi int32s and do bit
ops on them without calling the fp hardware or emulation.
* Identify results that are non-Smi int32s and write them into
heap numbers without calling the fp hardware or emulation.
* Do unary minus on heap numbers without going into the runtime
system.
* On add, sub and mul if we have both Smi and heapnumber inputs
to the same operation then convert the Smi to a double and do
the op without going into runtime system. This also applies
if we have two Smi inputs but the result is not Smi.

01f7c87f22 This patch much improves our tracking of whether function is
called from within a loop or not. In the past we lost the
information if a call site went megamorphic before a lazily
compiled callee was called for the first time. Now we track
that correctly (this is an issue that affects richards).
We still don't manage to track the in-loop state through a
constructor call, since constructor calls use LoadICs instead
of CallICs. This issue affects delta-blue. So in this patch
we assume that lazy compilations that don't happen through a
CallIC happen from inside a loop. I have an idea to fix this
but this patch is big enough already.
With our improved tracking of in-loop state I have switched
off the inlining of in-object loads for code that is not in
a loop. This benefits compile speed. One issue is that
eagerly compiled code now doesn't get the in-object loads
inlined. We need to eagerly compile less code to fix this.

30a0a7de43 Split nested namespaces declaration in two lines in accordance with C++ Style Guide.
This issue was raised by Brett Wilson while reviewing my changelist for readability. Craig Silverstein (one of C++ SG maintainers) confirmed that we should declare one namespace per line. Our way of namespaces closing seems not violating style guides (there is no clear agreement on it), so I left it intact.

525b43d653 X64 adaption: Changed a constant from kBitsPerPointer to kBitsPerInt.
Still stays within the size of Smi and works with a uint32_t bitfield.
Bitfield might need to be extended to handle a larger base.

31e7138e1a Improved performance of garbage collection by changing the way we use the marking stack in the event of stack overflow during full garbage collection and by changing the way we mark roots.
Cleaned up ARM version by removing top of stack caching and by introducing push/pop elimination.

Cleaned up the way runtime functions are called to allow runtime calls with no arguments.

Changed Windows build options to make sure that exceptions are disabled and that optimization flags are enabled.

Added first version of Visual Studio project files.

7276f14ca7 Changed all text files to have native svn:eol-style.
Added a few samples and support for building them. The samples include a simple shell that can be used to benchmark and test V8.

Changed V8::GetVersion to return the version as a string.

Added source for lazily loaded scripts to snapshots and made serialization non-destructive.

Improved ARM support by fixing the write barrier code to use aligned loads and stores and by removing premature locals optimization that relied on broken support for callee-saved registers (removed).

Refactored the code for marking live objects during garbage collection and the code for allocating objects in paged spaces. Introduced an abstraction for the map word of a heap-allocated object and changed the memory allocator to allocate executable memory only for spaces that may contain code objects.

Moved StringBuilder to utils.h and ScopedLock to platform.h, where they can be used by debugging and logging modules. Added thread-safe message queues for dealing with debugger events.

Fixed the source code reported by toString for certain builtin empty functions and made sure that the prototype property of a function is enumerable.

Improved performance of converting values to condition flags in generated code.

Merged disassembler-{arch} files.
