b9810ba063 Revert of Refactor object/class literal property name parsing (patchset #7 id:120001 of https://codereview.chromium.org/2278153004/ )
Reason for revert:
Fails to reject "{*foo: 1}" as an object literal, found
by the fuzzer:

6dd26c7295 Refactor object/class literal property name parsing
This patch arranges that property names are parsed in a single pass,
reporting the name as well as the type of the property, instead of
parsing qualifiers like 'static' or 'get' initially as names and then
re-parsing. This change is easier to reason about, very slightly (4%)
faster in some cases (although slower in other, less common ones, though
this slowdown will be fixed in an upcoming patch), and is a prerequisite
for separating the parsing of object and class literal properties, which
will become increasingly important as ECMAScript adds more class features.

5af4cd9840 Disallow tail calls from async functions and generators
Tail calls don't make sense from async functions and generators, as
each activation of these functions needs to make a new, distnict,
non-reused generator object. These tail calls are not required per
spec. This patch disables both syntactic and implicit tail calls
in async functions and generators.

5386c0062d Desugar async/await to create the resulting Promise upfront
As part of the work to implement catch prediction for async functions,
the resulting Promise that is the output of the function needs to be
available earlier for a couple reasons:
- To be able to do %DebugPushPromise/%DebugPopPromise over the body
  of the async function
- To be able to pass the resulting promise into AsyncFunctionAwait
in order to set up the dependency chains

This patch creates the Promise earlier and pushes it onto the debug
stack; a later patch will set up the dependency chain. Although the
debug stack is set up, it's not anticipated that this will change
the catch prediction helpfully yet, as everything will still likely
be predicted as 'caught' for now, as before.

51c186dd98 Centralize and standardize logic for ExpressionClassifier accumulation
Previously the calls to ExpressionClassifier::Accumulate() each chose
slightly different sets of productions to accumulate, and it turned
out that these were in some cases broader than needed and in some
cases less broad.

The existence of some grab-bag production bitmasks like
ExpressionClassifier::ExpressionProductions made this situation more
error-prone (for example, that production was missing AsyncArrowFormalParametersProduction).

This patch removes all "grab-bags" besides AllProductions. In some of
the places where code was using those grab-bags for convenience, it
switches them to use negation of AllProductions. In other, specifically
those having to do with expressions that are disallowed anywhere in
a sub-expression of a parameter list, I've added a new method on
ExpressionClassifier to centralize the logic.

The aforementioned centralization/addition of
AsyncArrowFormalParametersProduction fixes several cases where we were
failing to report an error for 'await' in some contexts; I've added
those test cases.

The patch also narrows all cases to exactly the set or productions
necessary, with a comment on each explaining the choice.

ba9367db60 [parser] Clean up (pre)parser traits, part 5, last
This patch moves the following methods from the traits objects to
the (pre)parser implementation objects:

- AddFormalParameter
- AddParameterInitializationBlock
- DeclareFormalParameter
- ExpressionListToExpression
- GetNonPatternList
- GetReportedErrorList
- IsTaggedTemplate
- MaterializeUnspreadArgumentsLiterals
- NoTemplateTag
- ParseArrowFunctionFormalParameterList
- ReindexLiterals
- SetFunctionNameFromIdentifierRef
- SetFunctionNameFromPropertyName

It moves the Void method from the preparser traits object to the
preparser implementation object. It also removes the traits zone
method and replaces it with that of ParserBase, which it turns to
public.

After all this, the traits objects contain just typedefs and the
delegate methods are no more necessary.

6c2c17cd4d [parser] Apply an adaptation of the CRTP
This patch applies an adaptation of the Curiously Recurring Template
Pattern to the parser objects. The result is roughly:

// Common denominator, needed to avoid cyclic dependency.
// Instances of this template will end up with very minimal
// definitions, ideally containing just typedefs.
    template <typename Impl>
    class ParserBaseTraits;

// The parser base object, which should just implement pure
// parser behavior. The Impl parameter is the actual derived
// class (according to CRTP), which implements impure parser
    // behavior.
    template <typename Impl>
    class ParserBase : public ParserBaseTraits<Impl> { ... };

// And then, for each parser variant:
    class Parser;

    template <>
    class ParserBaseTraits<Parser> { ... };

    class Parser : public ParserBase<Parser> { ... };

Using the CRTP, we will ultimately achieve two goals:
(1) clean up the traits objects, but most importantly
(2) clearly separate pure/impure parser implementation and facilitate
experimentation with different parser variants.

This patch const-qualifies some methods of ParserBase.
It also unqualifies some methods of Parser and Preparser.
The reason for the latter is that, in principle, the methods

232a33602b [async functions] Disallow 'await' in arrow params inside async functions
The following code was previously accepted:

  async function f() {
    let g = (await) => {};
  }

But per the spec, using 'await' is disallowed in arrow parameters
by an early error rule (just as 'yield' is disallowed in arrow
params inside generators).

There was special logic in ParseUnaryExpression which seems to have been
there only to allow that case. Having removed it, we get a SyntaxError in
the right cases anyway when ParseUnaryExpression chokes on whatever
illegal token follows 'await' in the cases this code previously handled.

Also removes the unnecessary AsyncBindingPatternProduction enum value.

b68df2d270 Fix Scanner invariants w/ literal buffers.
This isn't the most elegant fix, but I'd prefer to not rework the logic
right now. What happens is:
- Most parts of the Scanner use nullptr to mean, no literal buffer.
- The bookmarking logic may end up with a state where there's a non-nullptr
literal buffer, but it's empty. (length 0)
- These are functionally equivalent, so there's no 'real' bug.
- But it makes it hard to reason. This patch hence checks for length-0
literal buffers, and uses nullptr instead.

Rebuilding (after touching certain files) is crazy slow because

Fixing it:
- Don't include stuff in headers unless necessary.
- Include the stuff you need, not some other stuff that happens to include the

c677f81381 Scanner::LiteralBuffer usage cleanup.
1, restrict use of LiteralBuffers to the tokens that actually need it.
  - E.g., previously the Token::FUNCTION would have a literal buffer
containing "function", which was never actually used.
  - This eliminates copies of the string data for every call to
    PeekAhead or SetBookmark.
2, document & enforce the "secret" Scanner API contract w/ DCHECK
  - Document & check the correspondence of token value and literal buffer.
  - Document & check preconditions for calling PeekAhead, ScanRegExp*,
    ScanTemplate*.

7a100dffc6 Speed up parsing w/ grammar shortcut.
Certain token combinations (e.g. number literal followed by semicolon) will
result in a single AST node, but require many levels of recursive descent
parsing to determine this (11 in this example). For some 'obvious'
combinations, we'll simply generate the appropriate AST node fairly far up
in the call tree.

This yields a mild but consistent parser speedup. The main con is code duplication.

[Speedup between 0..20ms in parse time among a set of 25 commonly used sites. Speedup of ~180ms for a site w/ a very large codebase (adwords.google.com). Minor slow-downs between 0..8ms for <20% of sites.]

73b0f15714 Function name variable does not need a VariableDeclaration
This changes Scope::function_ (for holding the name binding
for named function expression) from a VariableDeclaration
to a Variable. No work is done when visiting this declaration,
since it's kCreatedInitialized, so we can treat it like
other function-specific variables.

This simplifies a wide variety of code, and centralizes
the logic for constructing the variable inside scopes.cc.
This may one day make it easier to eliminate the CONST_LEGACY
VariableMode.

7a3631e7e1 [Reland][Tracing] Embed V8 runtime call stats into tracing.
Currently we have V8 RuntimeCallStats that is independently from tracing when
running d8 with flag --runtime_call_stats. This patch embeds V8 runtime call
stats into tracing, by having a global table of runtime call counters each
isolate, resetting the table each time we enter a top level trace event, and
dumping the table for each top level trace event. This will make trace file more
compat, as well as enable runtime call stats in tracing system.

This patch adds ~5% overhead to V8 when the category is enabled, we measure the
overhead by running a script when category is enabled.

bf3081c837 Put Scopes into temporary Zone (second try)
When parsing a eagerly-parsed-but-lazily-compiled function, we
used to put some of its AST nodes into a discardable Zone. This
CL puts the function Scope, its inner Scopes and the related AST
nodes (Declarations, VariableProxys) into the temporary Zone
too. This reduces peak memory usage and enables future work to
keep the temporary Zone around for later compilation.

Currently we have V8 RuntimeCallStats that is independently from tracing when

f813494fcc [debug] Don't notify listener of exceptions internal to a desugaring.
In the parser, we desugar yield* with the help of a regular yield. One
particular implementation detail of this desugaring is that when the user calls
the generator's throw method, this throws an exception that we immediately
catch. This exception should not be visible to the user, but through Devtools'
"Pause on Caught Exceptions" feature it used to be.

This CL extends the type of catch predictions with a new value for such internal
exceptions and uses that for the offending try-catch statement in yield*. It
instruments the debugger to _not_ trigger an exception event in that case.

e9dea58fa2 Rescope arrow-function parameter lists by moving the delta to the parameter scope
This replaces the AstVisitor approach for scope rewriting with a Scope-only
solution, using a new Scope::Snapshot object that keeps track of inner scopes,
unresolved variables, and temps.

The only use of the AstVisitor is now for parameter varblock scopes introduced
due to sloppy eval in parameters, which greatly simplifies the rewriter
as it no longer needs to handle temps. A future CL may be able to
eliminate it altogether by taking a snapshot per function argument.

6d0a420298 [debug] use catch prediction flag for promise rejections.
This is in preparation to implementing exception prediction for async
functions. Each handler table entry can now predict "caught", "uncaught", or
"promise". The latter indicates that the exception will lead to a promise
rejection.

To mark the relevant try-catch blocks, we add a new native syntax.
try { } %catch (e) { } indicates a TryCatchStatement with the "promise"
prediction.

The previous implementation of using the function to tell the relevant
try-catch apart from inner try-catch blocks will not work for async functions
since these can have inner try-catch blocks inside the same function.

This creates the guarantee that we can compute the parent scope later on. We'll do the same for other types of scopes as well (with perhaps a limited number of exceptions that will need to be eagerly allocated).

1e08974e86 Fix: Don't use Isolate during scope resolution.
Using Isolate is unsafe, because we might parse (and do scope analysis)
on a background thread.

The illegal access happens when encountering f(arguments) { ... }.

6ce36869bc [parser] Add default constructor for PreParserExpression
In a few places in the parser base, we were forced to initialize
variables of type ExpressionT even if it's not necessary, as they
are assigned to later on before their use. This was required
because, for the case of the preparser, ExpressionT is
PreParserExpression which had no default constructor.

This patch adds a default constructor, equivalent to EmptyExpression
for this class, and gets rid of the unnecessary initializations.

This replaces the vtable on AstNode with a NodeType tag. The visitors replace double dispatch with a single switch over the NodeType.

For now, visitors with subclasses still have virtual methods themselves. We should probably specialize them later as well.

The uint8_t NodeType allows us to better pack memory, saving 8-16 bytes on many AST nodes (with additional packing that I'll do in a follow-up CL)

f6c6ae9034 Block-scoped functions in evals are now only conditionally hoisted out.
Annex B.3.3 of the spec requires that sloppy-mode block-scoped functions
declared by "eval" are hoisted unless doing so would cause an early
error (which is to say, conflict with a lexical declaration). This patch
amends the check for conflicting declarations to include those outside
of the eval itself.

Instead of unconditionally parsing the catch parameter as an expression

Import fdlibm versions of acos, acosh, asin and asinh, which are more

libm versions for asin and acos so far, where both speed and precision
depended on the operating system so far). Introduce appropriate TurboFan
operators for these functions and use them both for inlining and for the
generic builtin.

Also migrate the Math.imul and Math.fround builtins to TurboFan builtins
to ensure that their behavior is always exactly the same as the inlined
TurboFan version (i.e. C++ truncation semantics for double to float
don't necessarily meet the JavaScript semantics).

For completeness, also migrate Math.sign, which can even get some nice
love in TurboFan.

Drive-by-fix: Some alpha-sorting on the Math related functions, and
cleanup the list of Math intrinsics that we have to export via the
native context currently.

Catch parameters are largely treated as lexical declarations in the
block which contains their body for the purposes of early syntax errors,
with some exceptions outlined in B.3.5. This patch introduces most of
those errors, except those from `eval('for (var e of ...);')` inside of

9bbba1441a Sloppy-mode function declarations in blocks are now hoisted appropriately.
In ES2016, function declarations nested in blocks are formally allowed. This was
never a part of ECMAScript, but was a common extension. Unfortunately
implementations differed in the exact semantics. Annex B.3.3 in the spec tries
to standardize the parts which are common to different implementations, but does
so with some fairly complicated semantics.

This CL addresses three issues related to annex B.3.3:
* When the outer function had a complex parameter list, no hoisting whatsoever was
  being performed.
* Hoisting was not blocked by parameters of the same name.
* Hoisting was not blocked by nested lexical declarations of the same name.

We had tests which checked for the second, but they were incorrectly passing due to
the first. This CL adds more complete tests.

1ac0965542 Allow trailing commas in function parameter lists
Add a flag harmony_trailing_commas_in_parameters that allows trailing
commas in function parameter declaration lists and function call
parameter lists. Trailing commas are allowed in parenthetical lists like
`(a, b, c,)` only if the next token is `=>`, thereby making it an arrow
function declaration. Only 1 trailing comma is allowed, not `(a,,)`. A
trailing comma must follow a non-rest parameter, so `(,)` and `(...a,)`
are still SyntaxErrors. However, a trailing comma is allowed after a
spread parameter, e.g. `a(...b,);`.

Add parser tests for all of the above.

0e14baf712 Rewrite scopes of non-simple default arguments
Default parameters have additional declaration block scopes inserted
around them when something in the function scope calls eval. This
patch sets the parent scope of the expressions introduced due to
those defaults to the new block scope.

e45fba811f [parser] only parse async arrow function when necessary
Previously, an async arrow function would be parsed if any valid
ConditionalExpression began with the identifier "async", and its following token
was on the same line.

So for example, `async.bar foo => 1` was parsed as a valid async arrow function.
This patch corrects this behaviour by asserting that the following token is a
valid arrow parameters start.

This runtime function now also works for Ignition generators. It returns the

cbc6adc86c [cleanup] Remove dead code from DeclareLookupSlot and rename it
Runtime_DeclareLookupSlot is used when generating code for var and function declarations
originating in an eval. Over time, it's accumulated quite a bit of cruft, which this CL removes:

  - With legacy const gone, lookup slots never have any property attributes.
  - There was a bit signaling that the variable was from an eval, but that was redundant since
DeclareLookupSlot is only used for eval.
  - Some Proxy-related code didn't make sense here.

Its name was also not terribly clear: while "LookupSlot" is used in several places, this
particular function is only used for declaring variables and functions inside sloppy eval.
Renamed (and split into two) to make this clear for future archeologists.

Also added various DCHECKs to check the assumptions being made.

2f6be682ac Parser: Report use counts once per feature
Reporting use counts by invoking a callback once per occurrence has
a large overhead cost in certain situations, for example when it needs
to be dispatched to a different thread (which is the case for Web Workers).

Parsing large scripts can produce a lot of occurrences (strict/sloppy mode
once per function).

Chromium (the only known user of UseCounters so far) does not actually care
about number of occurrences, but simply whether they happened at least once.
This commit changes behavior to report features at most once, which dramatically
improves performance for impacted use cases, and should not affect the only
known real world usage.

dfb8d3331e Reduce the memory footprint of expression classifiers
This patch attempts to reduce the (stack) memory footprint of
expression classifiers. Instead of keeping space in each
classifier for all possible error messages that will
(potentially) be reported, if an expression turns out to be
a pattern or a non-pattern, such error messages are placed in
a list shared by the FunctionState and each classifier keeps a
couple of indices in this list. This requires that classifiers
are used strictly in a stack-based fashion, which is also in line
with my previous patch for revisiting non-pattern rewriting.

d0c65f93bf [parser] Relex restriction on reserved words
Some IdentifierNames are only included in the set of FutureReservedWords
for strict mode code. Outside of strict mode, these IdentifierNames may
be used as Identifiers. Notably, this includes their use as
BindingIdentifiers in LexicalBindings.

From ES2015 12.1.1 Static Semantics: Early Errors (Identifiers):

> It is a Syntax Error if this phrase is contained in strict mode code
> and the StringValue of IdentifierName is: "implements", "interface",
> "let", "package", "private", "protected", "public", "static", or
> "yield".

http://www.ecma-international.org/ecma-262/6.0/#sec-identifiers-static-semantics-early-errors

Due to a error in its heuristic for disambiguating the `let` token, V8
does not currently allow any of the strict-mode-only FutureReservedWords
to be used as a BindingIdentifier outside of strict mode.

Update V8's heuristic for disambiguating the `let` keyword to account
for strict mode, enabling these IdentifierNames to be used

2d090ee46a ParameterInitializerRewriter must maintain temporary variable order
When the rewriter moves a temporary variable between scopes, it must
be sure to maintain the order, so that the rewritten order is the
same as it would have been without rewriting.

To expose the difference in behavior, this patch removes the superfluous
visitation of ForOfStatement::each() from AstExpressionVisitor, which
happened to be the only thing keeping all the temporaries in order
in mjsunit/harmony/regress/regress-crbug-578038.js. Without the proper
order, this test would fail under --stress-opt, because the ".for"
variable (behind the "each" proxy) would get two different positions
in the scope, one on first parse (with rewriting) and the other on
second parse (lazy parsing for optimization).

A follow-up patch will remove each() and iterable() from ForOfStatement
altogether, but I wanted to keep this patch small to highlight exactly
the bit of code needed to make the test pass when not visiting each().

c8a342a582 Fix 'eval' in class extends clauses to be always-strict
Compiler backends get their language mode from the current
function, but should instead be deriving it from the current scope.
This allows proper handling of the always-strictness of class declarations
and expressions, and in particular the treatment of 'eval' calls in an
extends clause as a strict eval.

Also fix the parser's RecordEvalCall logic to only reach out to the
DeclarationScope in sloppy mode, which fixes the strange case of a
sloppy function thinking it contains a sloppy eval when in fact
it contains only a strict eval.

57f0a521e4 Fix ExternalTwobyteStringUtf16CharacterStream::PushBack(kEndOfInput)
PushBack(end-of-input) is a little weird, but since
Utf16CharacterStream::Advance will advance pos_m, but not buffer_cursor_
when at the end of the stream, pushing back the end-of-input token needs
to do the exact inverse.

(The reason Advance does not advance buffer_cursor_ is that buffer_cursor_ is often dereferenced
directly to access memory and so always needs to point to, well, memory.)
(The PushBack implementation for all other streams looks correct.)
