0439100a5f [parser] Stop treating generators as "top level" for preparsing purposes
Generators were previously treated as "top level" for preparsing purposes,
since all their variables are context-allocated. But doing so isn't quite
correct: the allocation of the "arguments" variable for a generator
depends on whether it's referenced, and so an inner arrow function
which references "arguments" won't properly trigger allocation of
"arguments" since the reference will not be noticed in the preparser.

The same problem exists for "this" since commit 68f0a47b28a96a4966e7b747bfa304b555e726d1;
before that commit, all generators implicitly referenced their "this" argument
as part of the desugaring. With that implicit reference gone, "this"
falls into the same problem as arguments.

This patch restricts the special "top level" treatment to modules,
which have only a trivial "this" binding (it's always undefined), and no
arguments binding. Moreover, all code inside modules is strict, meaning
that unresolved references to "this" will also result in undefined.

ea55b873f2 [turbofan][crankshaft] Don't generate elements kind transitions from stable maps.
IC system does its best to properly mark stable transition source maps
as unstable (see https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/483442)
however an already recorded map can be deprecated later and the
optimizing compiler may try to generate an elements kind transition
from the updated version of deprecated map which can "become" stable
again.

74519c43fd [wasm] Check for illegal br table count
The underlying issue is that TF Nodes cannot handle input counts
outside the integer range. On an illegal br_table instruction, we
generated a switch node with a control output count >kMaxInt.
Operator::ControlOutputCount turned this into a negative integer later,
leading to a failing DCHECK.
Since such large numbers cannot occur in any valid wasm function anyway,
we just add an additional check to the br table count. There is already
a TODO in the code to change Operator::ControlOutputCount to size_t.

a68b75d059 [wasm] Don't try to interpret asm.js modules
The interpreter does not implement all asm.js specific opcodes. Thus
the combination of --validate-asm and --wasm-interpret-all might crash.
The interpreter does not need to execute asm.js modules, as they are
debugged by executing them in turbofan instead of the wasm interpreter.
This CL thus excludes asm.js modules from --wasm-interpret-all.

73d21080c9 Reland: [Interpreter] Transition JSFunctions to call optimized code when possible.
Now that the optimized code hangs off the feedback vector, it is possible
to check whether a function has optimized code available every time it's
called in the interpreter entry trampoline. If optimized code exists, the
interpreter entry trampoline 'self-heals' the closure to point to the
optimized code and links the closure into the optimized code list.

d412cade2a [turbofan] Don't mix element accesses with incompatible representations.
Due to speculative optimizations, the compiler can run into situations
where it's asked perform impossible operations, like loading a tagged
element as a float64 instead. All of this is guaranteed to be in dead
code (unless there's a bug), but leads to confusion and violates
assumptions in the compiler (that make perfect sense for code that is
not dead). So teach LoadElimination not to mix up element accesses with
incompatible representations.

0f88153075 Reland of [builtins] DeleteProperty: Handle last-added fast properties
In general, deleting a property from a fast-properties object
requires transitioning the object to dictionary mode. However,
when the most-recently-added property is deleted, we can simply
roll back the last map transition that the object went through.

This is a performance experiment: it should make things faster,
but if it turns out to have more negative than positive impact,
we will have to revert it.

ec772a4fd8 Restrict range for int64_t to immediate conversions
The included test case illustrates the problem. It subtracts (16 << 27)
from another number. The Machine Operator Reducer would replace the
shift computation with 0x0000000080000000, and then change the subtract
to an add of -(0x0000000080000000), which is 0xffffffff80000000.
The instruction selector would determine that this value could be an
immediate, because it fits in 32 bits, so it would select the lea
instruction. Finally, the code generator would detect that the
immediate was less than 0, flip the sign and replace the add with a
subtract of 0x80000000. Because the x64 subtract instruction's
immediate field is 32 bits, the processor would interpret this as
0xffffffff80000000 instead of an unsigned value.

This change fixes the issue by making the CanBeImmediate check
explicitly compare against INT_MIN and INT_MAX. We disallow INT_MIN
as an immediate precisely because we cannot tell 0x0000000080000000
from 0xffffffff80000000 when truncated to 32 bits.

68b047d094 [turbofan] Fix lowering of JSGetSuperConstructor.
This fixes the existing lowering of {JSGetSuperConstructor} nodes to
unconditional throws. The above operator is marked as {kNoWrite} but
runtime calls are not marked as such. Any deoptimizing operation after
the throw would not be able to find a valid {Checkpoint}. We remove the
lowering case in question.

This also allows us to remove some ducktape from the Deoptimizer, as for
escape analyzed FixedDoubleArrays we always pass the hole value now to

a450c18544 [builtins] Copy array contents using JS in ConstructByArrayLike.
The last CL https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/c/456707/ caused
some pretty heavy performance regressions. After experimenting, it
seems the easiest and most straight-forward way to copy the elements
into the new typed array is to do it in JS.

Adds a fast path for typed arrays, where the source typed array has
the same elements kind, in which case we can just copy the backing
store using memcpy.

This CL also removes regression test 319120 which is from a pwn2own
vulnerability. The old code path enforced a maximum byte_length
that was too low, which this change removes. The length property of
the typed array must be a Smi, but the byte_length, which can be up
to 8x larger than length for a Float64Array, can be a heap number.

We can also re-use some of the logic from ConstructByLength when
deciding whether to allocate the buffer on- or off-heap, so that
is factored out into InitializeBasedOnLength. We can also re-use
the DoInitialize helper instead of calling into the runtime,
meaning we can remove InitializeFromArrayLike.

151cad81cf [wasm] Consider void returns in the int64-lowering
The int64-lowering lowers return nodes which return one int64 value into
a return node which returns two int32 values. For this lowering it has
to adjust the input count of the return operator.

The existing code assumed that if the signature of a function said that
the return type is int64, then all return nodes have int64 inputs.
However, with a recent CL we also introduced void returns. With this CL
I check if the number of inputs of a return node changes with the
DefaultLowering, and only if the number of inputs changes, then I check
if I also have to change the operator of the return node.

980448dfcd [Compiler] Remove CompileBaseline and three tier pipeline.
Since we no longer support the ignition-staging configuration
any longer, we can retire the three tier pipeline and the
CompileBaseline functionallity.

We still need support for JSFunction self healing due to
liveedit (which for --no-turbo might end up replacing a
forced Ignition function with a FCG function) - we can
remove this once we remove --no-turbo support.

9224d5d1bc [csa] Bailout to the runtime for ToInteger conversion in Array.p.indexOf.
The fast-path for Array.prototype.indexOf first checks whether the
receiver is a fast-mode JSArray (and there are no elements in the
prototype chain in case of holey arrays), then loads the known
JSArray::length, and afterwards calls ToInteger on the fromIndex.

But this ToInteger(fromIndex) call can cause arbitrary side effects if
the fromIndex is a JSReceiver, in particular it can invalidate the
assumptions about the fast-mode of the receiver and the length. In the
worst case this leads to OOB memory access.

Quick-fix is to bailout to the runtime if the fromIndex is neither a Smi
nor undefined, which represents the common cases.

fc023664bd Accurately record eval calls in arrow parameter lists
Previously, we over-approximated Scope::scope_calls_eval_ in
arrow functions: if either the outer scope or the arrow function
parameters had a direct eval call, we marked both scopes as calling
eval. This over-approximation kept getting us into trouble, though,
especially when eager or lazy parsing would disagree about the
"calls eval" bit.

This patch instead tracks eval calls accurately, using a boolean on
Scope::Snapshot that is reset as appropriately depending on whether
a particular AssignmentExpression turned out to be an arrow parameter
list or not.

6302753e2f Fix typeof optimization for undetectable
Currently, typeof o, where o is an undetectable
callable object (such as document.all), returns 'function' if
optimised. It should, however, return 'undefined'.

This CL excludes undetectable objects from the optimization
resulting in type 'function' and renames the related code to
reflect that.

5f1661aad7 [turbofan] For Word32Shl optimizations only consider the last 5 bits of the shift
One optimization in the machine-operator-reducer did not consider that
that word32 shift left instructions only consider the last 5 bits of
the shift input.

The issue only occurs for WebAssembly because in JavaScript we always
add a "& 0xf" on the shift value to the TurboFan graph.

For additional background: The JavaScript and WebAssembly spec both
say that only the last 5 bits of the shift value are used in the
word32-shift-left operation. This means that an "x << 0x29", in the
code is actually executed as "x << 0x09". Therefore the changes in
this CL are okay because they mask the last 5 bit of the shift value.

c0fe56e63d [regexp] Correct lastIndex behavior in RegExp.prototype[@@replace]
@@replace has a pretty complex implementation, taking different paths
for various situations (e.g.: global/nonglobal regexp, functional/string
replace argument, etc.). Each of these paths must implement similar
logic for calling into the RegExpBuiltinExec spec operation, and many
paths get this subtly wrong.

This CL fixes a couple of issues related to the way @@replace handles lastIndex:
* All paths now respect lastIndex when calling into exec (some used to assume 0).
* lastIndex is now advanced after a successful match for sticky regexps.
* lastIndex is now only reset to 0 on failure for sticky regexps.

6ee0b6cec6 [turbofan] Correct lazy deopt by {JSCreate} operation.
This adds support for deoptimizing into the JSConstructStub after the
receiver instantiation but before the actual constructor invocation.
Such a deoptimization point is needed for cases where instantiation
might be observed (e.g. when new.target is a proxy) and hence might
trigger a deopt.

We use this new deoptimization point for the "after" frame-state the
inliner attaches to {JSCreate} nodes being inserted when constructor
calls are being inlined.

9b35d8f575 [parsing] Produce same Scopes in Parser and PreParser when the params are not simple.
E.g.,
{ function lazy_inner(b = somevar) { let somevar; } }

If we don't produce the same scopes, PreParser thinks that the unresolved
variable inside the default parameter resolves into the variable declared inside
the function. Thus, it's not correctly recorded as a free variable.

One part is already done by https://codereview.chromium.org/2638333002 . But at
the laziness boundary, we still produced different scopes.

Unlike previously thought, this is also needed for lazy inner function
correctness, not only for "preparser scope analysis" (ie., skipping inner
functions).

because the memory operand used R8, which has the high bit set.

a33fcd663b [parsing] Fix maybe-assigned for loop variables.
Due to hoisting, the value of a 'var'-declared variable may actually change even
if the code contains only the "initial" assignment, namely when that assignment
occurs inside a loop. For example:

  let i = 10;
  do { var x = i } while (i--):

As a simple and very conservative approximation of this, we explicitly mark
as maybe-assigned any non-lexical variable whose "declaration" does not
syntactically occur in the function scope. (In the example above, it
occurs in a block scope.)

e34f536620 [turbofan] Mark {JSCreate} as potentially throwing.
This correctly marks the {JSCreate} operator as potentially throwing,
since it might trigger a property access of the 'prototype' property
during instantiation. This is observable, can throw (not kNoThrow),
might have side-effects (not kNoWrite), or even trigger a lazy deopt
event (not kNoDeopt). The inlining logic has been adapted to wire up
control projections accordingly.

Note that this does not yet take care of the "after" frame-state which
is associated with the {JSCreate} node introduced by the inliner. We
still might re-evaluate the property access upon lazy deoptimization.

5020db7f9c [promises] Fix .arguments on builtin function.
Using .caller, one can get access to the internal function that invokes the

consequence of this, when accessing .arguments on it, the frame-walking logic in

allocate an array of size -1.

This CL marks the builtin function as native (making its .arguments be null),

4a5446fb2b [tests] Make assertOptimized()/assertUnoptimized() great again.
The mentioned asserts did not work properly with interpreted and turbofanned functions.

To fix this issue %GetOptimizationStatus() now returns a set of flags instead of a single value.

This CL also adds more helper functions to mjsunit, like isNeverOptimize(), isAlwaysOptimize(),
isOptimized(fun), etc.

3f47c63ded [liveedit] reimplement frame restarting.
Previously, when restarting a frame, we would rewrite all frames
between the debugger activation and the frame to restart to squash
them, and replace the return address with that of a builtin to
leave that rewritten frame, and restart the function by calling it.

We now simply remember the frame to drop to, and upon returning
from the debugger, we check whether to drop the frame, load the
new FP, and restart the function.

The resume trampolin used to call the generator function with the context of the

788c96a955 [intl] Remove redundant type checking system
Previously, the Intl implementation tracked types two ways:
 - In the intl_initialized_marker_symbol
 - In various named properties of the intl_impl_object_symbol value

As far as I can tell, these will never disagree with each other,
modulo bugs in Intl itself. This patch removes the second type
checking system.

This reland includes a fixed type check for
Intl.DateTimeFormat.prototype.formatToParts , which is the only Intl
method which is not bound. All future methods will follow this
pattern.

The second reland ensures that a newly inserted test is only run
if Intl is present.

fc327e2308 [asm.js] [wasm] Store function start position for stack check
We did not associate any position to the stack check in the wasm
function prologue, hence a check failed later when trying to map the
non-existent position to the asm.js source position.

With this CL, we add a mapping to the source position table, mapping
the stack check call to byte offset 0 (which is distinct from any valid
instruction position). Also, we add another entry to the asm.js source
position sidetable, mapping byte offset 0 to the start source position
of the function body.

When Crankshaft compiles a keyed load to arguments, it disabled
optimization unless the KEYED_LOAD_IC for the access was monomorphic.
But that's too restrictive, since it will also disable optimization

This was spotted in the Node.js core function EventEmitter.prototype.emit,

b0a09d7809 [intl] Add new semantics + compat fallback to Intl constructor
ECMA 402 v2 made Intl constructors more strict in terms of how they would
initialize objects, refusing to initialize objects which have already
been constructed. However, when Chrome tried to ship these semantics,
we ran into web compatibility issues.

This patch tries to square the circle and implement the simpler v2 object
semantics while including a compatibility workaround to allow objects to
sort of be initialized later, storing the real underlying Intl object
in a symbol-named property.

The new semantics are described in this PR against the ECMA 402 spec:

53fdf9d192 Use a different map to distinguish eval contexts
eval() may introduce a scope which needs to be represented as a context at
runtime, e.g.,

  eval('var x; let y; ()=>y')

introduces a variable y which needs to have a context allocated for it. However,
when traversing upwards to find the declaration context for a variable which leaks,
as the declaration of x does above, this context has to be understood to not be
a declaration context in sloppy mode.

This patch makes that distinction by introducing a different map for eval-introduced
contexts. A dynamic search for the appropriate context will continue past an eval
context to find the appropriate context. Marking contexts as eval contexts rather
than function contexts required updates in each compiler backend.

bbf3c697ae [heap] Initialize the owner on each page after lospace allocation
The least two bits of the owner field of a Page are used to determine
whether the Page is part of a large object. If these bits are not equal
to 0x11, the page is part of a large object and needs special handling
e.g. in MemoryChunk::FromAnyPointerAddress to determine which chunk it
belongs to.

This CL fixes an issue in which the store buffer overflows after
a large object space allocation but before the object has been fully
initialized. Store buffer overflow handling attempts to look up the
chunk of a page, but fails to do so correctly since the page's owner
field has not yet been initialized.

This CL ensures that the owner field of all pages belonging to a large
object allocation are initialized to a value that is interpreted
correctly.

9b6808bfb5 [heap] Initialize the owner on each page after lospace allocation
The least two bits of the owner field of a Page are used to determine
whether the Page is part of a large object. If these bits are not equal
to 0x11, the page is part of a large object and needs special handling
e.g. in MemoryChunk::FromAnyPointerAddress to determine which chunk it
belongs to.

This CL fixes an issue in which the store buffer overflows after
a large object space allocation but before the object has been fully
initialized. Store buffer overflow handling attempts to look up the
chunk of a page, but fails to do so correctly since the page's owner
field has not yet been initialized.

This CL ensures that the owner field of all pages belonging to a large
object allocation are initialized to a value that is interpreted
correctly.

interpreted frames. For frames materialized by the deoptimizer we elide
the handler frame in between, hence arguments being pushed on the stack
will no longer be pushed into the handler frame but into the interpreted
frame directly.

It originates from the era where we used to run a separate preparse step

more.

In addition, this way we get more test coverage for preparser (for small

b06c4ce5a6 [debug-wrapper] Further extend the debug wrapper
This CL further extends the debug wrapper, migrates around 60 tests, and
removes a few tests that use functionality we will not support anymore.

In more detail:

* Removed tests that use:
  * enable/disable individual breakpoints
  * invocationText()
  * the ScriptCollected event
  * showBreakPoints
  * evalFromScript (and similar)
  * mirror.constructedBy and mirror.referencedBy
  * event_data.promise()
* Some frame.evaluate uses were adapted since due to differences between
  remote objects (inspector) and mirrors. For instance, exceptions are
  currently not recreated exactly, since the inspector protocol does not
  give us the stack and message separately. Other objects (such as
  'this' in debug-evaluate-receiver-before-super) need to be explicitly
  converted to a string before the test works correctly.
* Ensure that inspector stores the script before sending ScriptParsed and
  ScriptFailedToParse events in order to be able to use the script from
  within those events.
* Better remote object reconstruction (e.g. for undefined and arrays).
* New functionality in wrapper:
  * debuggerFlags().breakPointsActive.setValue()
  * scripts()
  * execState.setVariableValue()
  * execState.scopeObject().value()
  * execState.scopeObject().property()
  * execState.frame().allScopes()
  * eventData.exception()
  * eventData.script()
  * setBreakPointsActive()

93c6595200 [turbofan] Advance bytecode offset after lazy deopt.
This changes {FrameState} nodes modeling "after" states to use bytecode
offsets pointing to the deoptimizing bytecode. This is in sync with the
normal execution, as the bytecode offset is advanced after operations
complete in regular bytecode handlers.

The change is necessary to ensure lazy deoptimized frames contain an
accurate bytecode offset while they are on the stack. Such frames can be
inspected by various stack walks. The continuation builtin will advance
the bytecode offset upon return.

5975c47a6a Avoid calling out to JS during stack overflow
If an exception is thrown when there is a Promise being created, the Promise
catch prediction code would call into a part implemented in JavaScript to see if
the Promise has a catch handler. If it is not possible to call back into JS,
e.g., due to a stack overflow, then this would lead to a crash. This patch
"speculates" that, if it's impossible to call back into JavaScript, then the
error is unhandled, avoding the issue. In a future patch, the catch prediction
logic should be entirely written in C++, but this patch adds a minimal fix to
be more friendly to backports.

In that case, we could still optimize the access if it accesses at

If any code relies on a general access to context-allocated arguments,
we would need to analyze the function for assignment to the arguments - this
might be quite tricky.

even though it is not validated. One can still trigger the bug by using
invalid constructs within a function marked with "use asm". The fix is
intentionally minimal so that it can be merged to release branches.

4fa2ebcbe0 Turn Scope::locals_ into a ThreadedList
This turns the ZoneList with minimum 6 words overhead into a linked list through variables, using 2 words for the empty list. Additionally the average number of pointers per entry goes down to the optimal 1 per variable that's in a list.

This does introduce 1 pointer unnecessary overhead for dynamic variables. If that becomes a problem we could distinguish between variables in lists and variables not in lists. We can distinguish them at construction-time.

7201bad99d [turbofan] Properly deal with out-of-bounds fields in EscapeAnalysis.
Conflicting type feedback on Load/StoreICs can lead to out-of-bounds
field access, which is essentially dead code, but EscapeAnalysis was
confused about those. For now, mark the objects as escaping in these
cases, middle-term we want to deal better with this kind of compile-
time known dead code.

2bd7464ec1 [compiler] Properly validate stable map assumption for globals.
For global object property cells, we did not check that the map on the
previous object is still the same for which we actually optimized. So
the optimized code was not in sync with the actual state of the property
cell. When loading from such a global object property cell, Crankshaft
optimizes away any map checks (based on the stable map assumption),
leading to arbitrary memory access in the worst case.

TurboFan has the same bug for stores, but is safe on loads because we
do appropriate map checks there. However mixing TurboFan and Crankshaft
still exposes the bug.

2ab2ec2243 [turbofan] Disable bogus lowering of builtin tail-calls.
The TurboFan backends currently don't support tail-calls to CPP builtins
because the semantics of kJavaScriptCallArgCountRegister has different
semantics for stub call descriptors versus JavaScript call descriptors.
This is actually a short-coming of the backends and follow-up work will
make the backends more robust in that regard to fail hard on unsupported
constructs like that. This just disables the lowering creating such a
tail-call.

381b5437b2 Don't call FastNewFunctionContextStub if context is bigger than kMaxRegularHeapObjectSize.
CL https://codereview.chromium.org/2177273002 changed FastNewFunctionContextStub
to take a number of slots parameter and in-doing so removed the maximum slot
count for FastNewFunctionContextStub. This made it possible to create a
closure which is larger than kMaxRegularHeapObjectSize and so can't be
allocated by FastNewFunctionContextStub.

Reintroduce FastNewFunctionContextStub::kMaxSlots (but make the limit much
larger) to ensure we call the runtime for contexts which need to be
allocated in the LO space.
