f476d4d431 Allow uint32 value on optimized frames if they are consumed by safe operations.
Safe operations are those that either do not observe unsignedness or have special support for uint32 values:

- all binary bitwise operations: they perform ToInt32 on inputs;
- >> and << shifts: they perform ToInt32 on left hand side and ToUint32 on right hand side;
- >>> shift: it performs ToUint32 on both inputs;
- stores to integer external arrays (not pixel, float or double ones): these stores are "bitwise";
- HChange: special support added for conversions of uint32 values to double and tagged values;
- HSimulate: special support added for deoptimization with uint32 values in registers and stack slots;
- HPhi: phis that have only safe uses and only uint32 operands are uint32 themselves.

d53de0590a Swapped transition array and descriptor array.
Now a map points to a transition array which contains the descriptor array. The descriptor array is now immutable. The next step is to share the descriptor array with all back-pointed maps as long as there is a single line of extension. Maps that require a descriptor array but don't need transitions will still need a pseudo-empty transition array to contain the descriptor array.

1d0f872ef9 Fix full code generator to not use --debug-code if it is in
mksnapshot or a VM that is booted from a snapshot. --debug-code
can still have an effect on stub and optimized code and it still
works on the full code generator when running without snapshots.

The deoptimizer generates full-code-generator code and relies on it having
the same layout as last time. This means that the code the full code
generator makes for the snapshot should be the same as the code it makes
later. This change makes the full code generator create more consistent
code between mksnapshot time and run time.

This is a bug fix and a step towards making the snapshot code more robust.

b008d99b11 Ensure that all descriptors have a valid enumeration index, and replace NextEnumIndex with LastAdded.
The LastAdded points to the descriptor that was last added to the array. From the descriptor we can deduce the NextEnumerationIndex. This allows us to quickly find the property that we are transitioning to, which is necessary for transition-intensive code, eg JSON parsing.

6703dddac4 Support fast case for-in in Crankshaft.
Only JSObject enumerables with enum cache (fast case properties, no interceptors, no enumerable properties on the prototype) are supported.

HLoadKeyedGeneric with keys produced by for-in enumeration are recognized and rewritten into direct property load by index. For this enum-cache was extended to store property indices in a separate array (see handles.cc).

New hydrogen instructions:

- HForInPrepareMap: checks for-in fast case preconditions and returns map that contains enum-cache;
- HForInCacheArray: extracts enum-cache array from the map;
- HCheckMapValue: map check with HValue map instead of immediate;
- HLoadFieldByIndex: load fast property by it's index, positive indexes denote in-object properties, negative - out of object properties;

Changed hydrogen instructions:

- HLoadKeyedFastElement: added hole check suppression for loads from internal FixedArrays that are knows to have no holes inside.

Original commit message:

Add a level of indirection to exception handler addresses.

To support deoptimization of exception handlers, the handler address in the
stack is converted to a pair of code object and an index into a separate
table of code offsets. The index part is invariant under deoptimization.
The index is packed into the handler state field so that handler size does
not change.

Before: every context cached the nearest enclosing function context. This
assumed that for nested contexts (i.e., with and catch contexts) the
enclosing function had a materialized link in the context chain.

Now: when necessary, we loop up the context chain to find such a context.
This enables catch contexts without forcing the enclosing function to
allocate its own context.

670f947a5c Implement set trap for proxies, and revamp class hierarchy in preparation:
- Introduce a class JSReceiver, that is a common superclass of JSObject and
JSProxy. Use JSReceiver where appropriate (probably lots of places that we
still have to migrate, but we will find those later with proxy test suite).

- Move appropriate methods to JSReceiver class (SetProperty,
GetPropertyAttribute, Get/SetPrototype, Lookup, and so on).

- Introduce new JSFunctionProxy subclass of JSProxy. Currently only a stub.

- Overhaul enum InstanceType:
  * Introduce FIRST/LAST_SPEC_OBJECT_TYPE that ranges over all types that
represent JS objects, and use that consistently to check language types.
  * Rename FIRST/LAST_JS_OBJECT_TYPE and FIRST/LAST_FUNCTION_CLASS_TYPE
    to FIRST/LAST_[NON]CALLABLE_SPEC_OBJECT_TYPE for clarity.
  * Eliminate the overlap over JS_REGEXP_TYPE.
  * Also replace FIRST_JS_OBJECT with FIRST_JS_RECEIVER, but only use it where
we exclusively talk about the internal representation type.
  * Insert JS_PROXY and JS_FUNCTION_PROXY in the appropriate places.

- Fix all checks concerning classification, especially for functions, to
use the CALLABLE_SPEC_OBJECT range (that includes funciton proxies).

- Handle proxies in SetProperty (that was the easiest part :) ).

- A few simple test cases.

6f775f2fb0 Fix calls of strict mode function with an implicit receiver.
Only IA32 version for now. I'll start porting.

Strict mode functions are to get 'undefined' as the receiver when
called with an implicit receiver. Modes are bad! It forces us to have
checks on all function calls.

This change attempts to limit the cost by passing information about
whether or not a call is with an implicit or explicit receiver in ecx
as part of the calling convention. The cost is setting ecx on all
calls and checking ecx on entry to strict mode functions.

Implicit/explicit receiver state has to be maintained by ICs. Various
stubs have to not clobber ecx or save and restore it.

CallFunction stub needs to check if the receiver is implicit when it
doesn't know from the context.

Bit tests with a memory operand should be avoided on Intel processors.
On Atom bts with a memory operand has 10~11 cycles latency and on Core 2

If the bit base operand is a register the latency is 1 cycle instead.

Better support for 'polymorphic' JS and external arrays

Allow keyed store/load stubs to switch between external array and fast JS arrays without forcing a state transition to the generic stub.

There CL consists of two pieces of functionality. First, code stubs for fast element arrays don't immediately transition to the MEGAMORPHIC state when there's a map mismatch. Second, two ICs are cached per map for fast elements, the MONOMORPHIC version, and a new MEGAMORPHIC version that handles two or more different maps and dispatches to shared stubs to perform the array operation.

5a9b2b3c5f Better support for 'polymorphic' JS and external arrays
Allow keyed store/load stubs to switch between external array and fast JS arrays without forcing a state transition to the generic stub.

There CL consists of two pieces of functionality. First, code stubs for fast element arrays don't immediately transition to the MEGAMORPHIC state when there's a map mismatch. Second, two ICs are cached per map for fast elements, the MONOMORPHIC version, and a new MEGAMORPHIC version that handles two or more different maps. Currently, the only array types supported by the MEGAMORPHIC stub are fast elements for objects and JSArrays.

4e18d50834 Add constant splitting for user controlled constants in the full compiler
This is IA32 only for now.

Added a random value to each assembler instance (JIT cookie) to be used for constant splitting. Added safe versions of setting a register with an immediate value and for pushing an immediate value. Used these functions where user controlled immediate values could be emitted in the code stream. I also used it for immediates which are an argument number even though the number of formal arguments is currently limited to 16k.

I found no compares directly with user controlled constants.

I am not sure whether the test is that useful, but it might catch some changes missing constant splitting.

ebebcae4c2 Allow esi to be an allocatable register on IA32.
Make esi available to the register allocator rather than dedicating it
permanently to the context.

The context is still passed in register esi to JavaScript and to the runtime
as part of the calling convention. Because some stubs might end up calling
JS or the runtime, it is also conservatively passed to stubs.

Roughly half the calls have been modified to use the context as an input
value in fixed register esi. The other half are marked as calls or deferred
code so esi is spilled and can be explicitly set.

It is no longer necessary to restore the context to esi after a call that
might change it.

32cd13ebf1 Remove the redundant load on every context lookup.
There was an unnecessary load on every statically-resolved context lookup.
Remove it.

This revealed a hidden bug in const initializers inside 'with'. They claim
to be statically resolved (having slot type CONTEXT) but they occur in a
spot where the runtime context chain and the static scope chain do not
agree. This is fixed by special casing const initializers in the backend.

161d631b5e Change ARM exit frame layout and alingment handling
Change the ARM exit frame to have the same layout as the IA32 exit frame. This basically re-arranges the order of fp and sp and changes the sp location of the entry frame to hold the sp used by the gc and not the sp for popping the arguments. This removes the option of tearing down the frame and returning using one ldm instruction.

The main motivation for this is to avoid pushing an alignment word before generating the entry frame. The GC handling of optimized frames process the registers pushed as part of a safepoint and asumes that these are at the top of the frame, so if an alignment word is pushed this processing will be one off.

The alignment handling in the C entry stub have also been simplified. Now the value of lr is stored to a stack slot already reserved avoiding pushing it and keeping track of "frame skew".

This does result in more instructions in the exit frame on ARM, but we can look into improving this later.

The the call of the builtin in InstanceofStub was not correctly protected with an internal frame leading to the return address being handled as a pointer during GC.

Marked the Instanceof stub as allowing stub calls (the RecordWriteStub was removed some days ago).

This issue was not caught by the assertion designed for this when debug mode is run with --debug-code (which out tests always does) as generating code for Abort set the allow stub calls flag to true. This has been fixed by restoring the allow stub calls flag correctly.

4c6f79ecec Fix crashes during GC caused by partially initialized objects. The
inline allocation code used the expected number of properties to
calculate the number of inobject properties for an object instead of
getting the actual number from the initial map.

It is safer to use the inobject property count from the initial map in
any case because that is the amount the instances will get. I think
this disconnect got introduced when adding shrinking of objects.

Unfortuntely I haven't been able to create a simple reproduction for a
test case but this fixes the webpage that exhibits the crash. I'll see
if I can create a reproduction tomorrow.

be5763fc4d Cleanup the way the debugger stores live registers when entering at a break
The live registers are now only stored to the expression stack with the non pointer values being stored as smis (on the 32-bit platforms these values are assumed to be 31-bit max).

This makes the CEntryStub entry/exit code much simpler, and there is no longer any need for a mode (debug or normal) on it.

Fix a missing live register when breaking at ARM keyed load.

3202df6c69 Copy-on-write arrays.
Object model changes
----------------------------------------
New fixed_cow_array_map is used for the elements array of a JSObject
to mark it as COW. The JSObject's map and other fields are not
affected. The JSObject's map still has the "fast elements" bit set. It
means we can do only the receiver map check in keyed loads and the
receiver and the elements map checks in keyed stores. So introducing
COW arrays doesn't hurt performance of these operations. But note that
the elements map check is necessary in all mutating operations because
the "has fast elements" bit now means "has fast elements for reading".
EnsureWritableFastElements can be used in runtime functions to perform
the necessary lazy copying.

Generated code changes
----------------------------------------
Generic keyed load is updated to only do the receiver map check (this
could have been done earlier). FastCloneShallowArrayStub now has two
modes: clone elements and use COW elements. AssertFastElements macro
is added to check the elements when necessary. The custom call IC
generators for Array.prototype.{push,pop} are updated to avoid going
to the slow case (and patching the IC) when calling the builtin should
work.

COW enablement
----------------------------------------
Currently we only put shallow and simple literal arrays in the COW
mode. This is done by the parser.

8e0cd6db8a Handle overwriting valueOf on String objects correctly when adding
This adds a check to the fast case string add to ensure that the String object still have the default valueOf function. The default valueOf is sitting on a hidden prototype of String.prototype.

Before using the fast case valueOf the object is checked for a local valueOf property. For slow case objects this check always reports true (the dictionary is not probed, so valueOf might be there) and for fast case objects the descriptor array is checked for the valueOf symbol (just liniar scan). After that the prototype is checked for beeing the initial value of String.prototype. If this all pass (that is the default valueOf is still in place) this result is cached on the map making the check fast the next time.

This is only implemented in the optimizing compiler, as the two usages of %_IsStringWrapperSafeForDefaultValueOf is never hit by the full compiler.

I will port to x64 and ARM when this has been reviewed for ia32.

I will remove the performance counters prior to final commit.

36e5743674 Put direct code pointers into JSFunction objects. This is a first step
in allowing more flexible compilation and to simplify builtins lookup.

This changes a number of places where code objects are assigned to
SharedFunctionInfo objects to also assign this code object to the
JSFunction. In addition, the code flushing is changed slightly to
accomodate this (we need to flush the code from functions pointing to
SharedFunctionInfo objects that has already been flushed).

-- layout change for String: meaning of LSB bit is fliped (1 now means hash not

v8.gyp no longer sets any V8_TARGET_ARCH_* macro on the Mac. Instead, the
proper V8_TARGET_ARCH_* macro will be set by src/globals.h in the same way as
the V8_HOST_ARCH_* macro when it detects that no target macro is currently

#ifdef guards in each of these target-specific source files prevent their

0143d707a6 Add an assigned variables analysis.
This change adds a pass over the AST that computes the
set of assigned variables for locals and parameters for each expression.

The result of this analysis is used to for two purposes:
1. Recognize variables that are trivial subexpressions. A left sub-expression
of a binary operation is trivial if it is a local variable or a parameter
and it is not assigned in the right sub-expression. In the case of a
trivial left sub-expression we evaluate the right first.
Currently only binary operations and compare operations are considered
   when finding trivial left sub-expressions.

2. Recogize certain simple for-loops with a constant trip count where the loop
variable is always within smi range. If the loop count variable is not
assigned in the body of the loop (except in the update expression the
for-loop). This allows omitting smi checks on operation using the loop
   count variable.

dbe99e405a Introduce number type information in the virtual frame.
Each frame element gets a new attribute with number type information. A frame element can be:

- smi
- heap number
- number (i.e. either of the above)
- or something else.

The type information is propagated along with all virtual frame operations.
Results popped from the frame carry the number information with them.

Two optimizations in the code generator make use of the new
information:
- GenericBinaryOpSyub omits map checks if input operands are numbers.
- Boolean conversion for numbers: Emit inline code for converting a number (smi or heap number) to boolean. Do not emit call to ToBoolean stub in this case.

46020b3169 Probe the symbol table for two character strings in native code
All two character string results from adding two strings and from sub string used to be handled in the runtime system as a lookup in the symbol table was done before allocating a new string. The native code for string add and sub string now probes the symbol cache for two character strings to avoid the runtime call. If the result string is not found in the symbol table within a fixed number of probes a new string is just allocated. Newly allocated two character strings are not added to the symbol table immediately.

2f0f6face1 Fast compiler: Load globals variables directly from property cells.
This is a first step towards loading globals directly from property cells instead
of going through a load IC.

This change supports only properties with the DontDelete attribute since
we are only able to bailout into the generic code generated by the secondary
code generator the beginning of a function. The resulting fast-case code is
specialized for a specific context. When invoked with a different global object,
it will always bailout to the secondary code.

When loading a property that does not exist at compile-time or a property
that is deleteable we still generate the generic load IC.

429f3cf9f2 Direct call to native RegExp code from JavaScript.
Calls to RegExp no longer have to be via a call to the runtime system. A new stub have been added which can handle this call in generated code. The stub checks all the parameters and creates RegExp entry frame in the same way as it is created by the runtime system. Bailout to the runtime system is done whenever an uncommon situation is encountered or when the static data used is not initialized. After running the native RegExp code the last match info is updated like in the runtime system.

Currently only ASCII strings are handled.

Added another argument to the RegExp entry frame. It indicated whether the call is direct from JavaScript code or through the runtime system. This information is used when RegExp execution is interrupted. If an interruption happens when RegExp code is called directly a retry is issued causing the interruption to be handled via the runtime system. The reason for this is that the direct call to RegExp code does not support garbage collection.

0672938b88 Fix a crash caused by garbage collection during generation of a
callback load (or keyed load) IC.

The problem was that the IC code calls a stub, which can allocate and
thus trigger a GC if the stub is not already generated. Problem is
solved by adding the ability to "try" to call a stub, trying to
generate the stub code if necessary but signaling an allocation
failure if generating the code is not possible.

53fbd5932a Perform string add in generated code on IA-32 platforms
This adds a code stub which can do most of what Heap::AllocateConsString can do. It bails out if the result cannot fit in new space or if the result is a short (flat) string and one argument is an ascii string and the other a two byte string. It also bails out if adding two one character strings as Heap::AllocateConsString has special handling of this utilizing the symbol table. The stub is used both for the binary add operation and for StringAdd calls from runtime JavaScript files. Extended the string add test to cover all sizes of flat result stings.
