434066820f [wasm] Test that compile errors contain function names
Even in streaming mode we want to generate deterministic compile
errors, in particular they should contain the function name.
This CL adds a test to check that the name is present in the error
message even if the blob containing the function names is not present
at the time the compile error is detected.

4c65986a44 [heap] Rework incremental marking scheduling
The new scheduling reduces the main thread marking performed in
tasks and on allocation. It is based on two counters:
- bytes_marked,
- scheduled_bytes_to_mark.

The bytes_marked accounts marking done both the main thread and
the concurrent threads. The scheduled_bytes_to_mark increases based
on allocated bytes and also based on time passed since the start
of marking. The main thread steps are allowed to mark the minimal
amount if bytes_marked is greater than scheduled_bytes_to_mark.

This also changes tasks posted for marking. Before only normal
tasks were posted. Now delayed tasks are posted if the marker is
ahead of schedule.

We need to be able to serialize a NativeModule, which is not bound to
any Isolate. Hence we should not want to pass any Isolate to the

ExternalReferenceList for serialization and deserialization. This
ExternalReferenceList only contains isolate-independent external

3e545e4045 Reland "[wasm] Implement the new API for WebAssembly.instantiateStreaming"
The problem was that in AsyncCompileJob::FinishModule we allocate a
handle, but when this function is called from streaming compilation, then
there was no HandleScope around AsyncCompileJob::FinishModule. This issue
was fixed in another CL, https://crrev.com/c/1172357. This CL is just a
rebase of the original CL.

This CL introduces a set of configuration options implemented as

necessary to plumb them through multiple levels of abstraction.

99de47f155 [cleanup] Remove redundant wasm:: namespace prefixes
The wasm/ directory is inconsistent in many places, often within the
same file. For all code that exists in a v8::internal::wasm namespace,
this CL removes any wasm:: qualifiers, which is especially helpful
since most types are already Wasm-named, such as WasmCode, WasmModule,
etc. Namespace qualifiers are redundant inside the wasm:: namespace and
thus go against the main point of using namespaces. Removing the
qualifiers for non Wasm-named classes also makes the code somewhat more
future-proof, should we move some things that are not really WASM-specific
(such as ErrorThrower and Decoder) into a higher namespace.

6be6ec0091 [wasm] Store WasmModule in shared_ptr during async compilation
We currently store the {WasmModule} (generated during decoding) in a
unique_ptr and pass ownership to the {WasmModuleObject} after
compilation.
I plan to move the {Managed<NativeModule>} from {WasmCompiledModule} to
{WasmModuleObject}, which will force us to create the
{WasmModuleObject} *before* compilation, so that the {CompilationState}
is available during compilation.

This CL prepares that refactoring by storing the {WasmModule} in a
{shared_ptr} in the {AsyncCompileJob}. Note that it will eventually be
stored in a {shared_ptr} in the {Managed} anyway.

8a95da2415 [wasm] Reimplement WebAssembly.instantiate without desugaring
At the moment, WebAssembly.instantiate(bytes) is implemented by
desugaring it to WebAssembly.compile(bytes).then(WebAssembly.instantiate).
The problem is that the {then} in this snippet is observable. With this
CL I introduce a CompilationResultResolver which allows to do the
desugaring internally and thereby make the {then} unobservable.
Unfortunately the result of WebAssembly.instantiate(bytes) is different
than the result of WebAssembly.instantiate(module). Therefore I also
introduced an InstantiationResultResolver for symmetry with
WebAssembly.compile.

Get rid of task runners for WorkerThreads API (use case is always a
one-off task in which case a static call is fine -- just like in
Chromium's base/task_scheduler/post_task.h)

Calling into V8Platform* from any worker thread is safe, what was previously
unsafe was using an Isolate* from worker threads but Isolate* was dropped
from the new worker threads APIs so this is now irrelevant.

70222a9d03 [v8 platform] Rename BackgroundThread methods to WorkerThreads method.
Follow-up to https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/c/v8/v8/+/941442.

"background" refers to a priority and is inappropriate to refer to
worker threads as many tasks posted to worker threads by v8 are in
fact high priority.

Also took advantage of this rename to make NumberOfWorkerThreads()
return an int instead of size_t. While it is never negative, int is
simpler and Google C++ style guide states to avoid unsigned integers in
such cases (ref. "On Unsigned Integers" @
https://google.github.io/styleguide/cppguide.html#Integer_Types).

The Chromium embedder for that call provided an int which was converted
to size_t for this override and most often casted back down to int on the
v8 side, adding churn, and readability overhead.

86b4b5345a [v8 platform] Get rid of unused ExpectedRuntime parameter.
With a temporary intermediate step to allow adapting embedders before
getting rid of the ExpectedRuntime method altogether.

The method is being renamed to CallOnWorkerThread() as an effort to
go away from "background" nomenclature for worker threads ("background"
usually refers to a priority but worker threads are commonly used for
high priority tasks in v8).
Other CLs will follow to rename other "background" APIs.

3121ffeb55 [wasm][streaming] Only clear the compilation_unit_builder_ if it exists
The CompilationUnitBuilder of the StreamingProcessor is cleared when an
error occurs in the streaming decoder. The clearing of the
CompilationUnitBuilder was guarded by the existence of the
ModuleCompiler, because this ModuleCompiler and the
CompilationUnitBuilder are created together. However, the
CompilationUnitBuilder is reset when the next section after the code
section is processed, whereas the ModuleCompiler exists until the end of
the AsyncCompileJob. With this CL the clearing of the
CompilationUnitBuilder is also guarded by its own existence.

3ca114725f [wasm] Do not start background tasks after compilation is finished
Finishing a chunk of data during streaming compilation caused background
tasks to be restarted unconditionally. However, restarting background
tasks is not possible after compilation has already finished. With this
CL we do not allow anymore to restart background tasks after they have
been finished.

2c3fae967b [wasm] Allow to restart background tasks during streaming compilation
In a certain scenario streaming compilation got stuck and did never
finish. This CL fixes this issue.

Scenario:
* Streaming compilation starts
* The compilation tasks execute all compiation units in the working
queue and set the finished_ flag to true.
* New data arrives over streaming
* The compilation tasks compile so fast that the executed_units_ queue
gets full. The compilation tasks stop executing and wait for the
  finisher task to restart them.
* The finisher task does not restart the compilation tasks because the
  finished_ flag is set.

With this CL I remove the finished flag and instead look at the size
of the working queue directly.

In addition I added a test which does not actually reproduce this
scenario but seems good to have anyways.

5fb4b176fa [wasm] Move wasm objects from Isolate to new WasmEngine object
This is a small refactoring that moves the WasmCodeManager and
CompilationManager from being a part of the Isolate directly to living in a new
WasmEngine object. This makes it easier to change Wasm components without
rebuilding so much of V8, and also enables future changes to Wasm without
affecting unrelated parts of V8.

822be9b238 Normalize casing of hexadecimal digits
This patch normalizes the casing of hexadecimal digits in escape
sequences of the form `\xNN` and integer literals of the form
`0xNNNN`.

Previously, the V8 code base used an inconsistent mixture of uppercase
and lowercase.

Google’s C++ style guide uses uppercase in its examples:
https://google.github.io/styleguide/cppguide.html#Non-ASCII_Characters

Moreover, uppercase letters more clearly stand out from the lowercase
`x` (or `u`) characters at the start, as well as lowercase letters
elsewhere in strings.

6607bac5f4 [wasm-streaming] Fix function index calculation
The index of a function in the WasmModule data structure is offset by
the number of imported functions in the module. The {DecodeFunctionBody}
function of the module decoder, however, requires the function index
without this offset. The streaming processor mixed up these two ranges
of function indices. This is fixed in this CL.

d9b42b7b34 [wasm] Handle modules without code in streaming compilation
Streaming compilation started the compilation of a module at the
beginning of the code section. However, there exist valid modules which
do not contain a code section. In this CL we check for the existence of
a code section when we finish the stream. We do this by checking if the
module compiler in the AsyncCompileJob exists, because the module
compiler gets initialized at the beginning of the code section.

If we detect that compilation has not been started because there was no
code section, then we start compilation when the stream finishes.

549692cbc0 [wasm] Streaming compilation for WebAssembly.
In this CL I implement streaming compilation for WebAssembly,
as described in the design doc I have sent out already.

In this implementation the decoding of sections other than the
code section is done immediately on the foreground thread.
Eventually all decoding should happen in the background. I
think it is acceptable to do the decoding on the foreground
thread for now because I have finished it already, and
decoding in the background would add even more complexity to
this CL.
