f8ed116aa5 dlopen: Rework handling of pending NODELETE status
Commit a2e8aa0d9e ("Block signals during
the initial part of dlopen") was deemed necessary because of
read-modify-write operations like the one in  add_dependency in
elf/dl-lookup.c.  In the old code, we check for any kind of NODELETE
status and bail out:

      /* Redo the NODELETE check, as when dl_load_lock wasn't held
	 yet this could have changed.  */
      if (map->l_nodelete != link_map_nodelete_inactive)
	goto out;

And then set pending status (during relocation):

	  if (flags & DL_LOOKUP_FOR_RELOCATE)
	    map->l_nodelete = link_map_nodelete_pending;
	  else
	    map->l_nodelete = link_map_nodelete_active;

If a signal arrives during relocation and the signal handler, through
lazy binding, adds a global scope dependency on the same map, it will
set map->l_nodelete to link_map_nodelete_active.  This will be
overwritten with link_map_nodelete_pending by the dlopen relocation
code.

To avoid such problems in relation to the l_nodelete member, this
commit introduces two flags for active NODELETE status (irrevocable)
and pending NODELETE status (revocable until activate_nodelete is
invoked).  As a result, NODELETE processing in dlopen does not
introduce further reasons why lazy binding from signal handlers
is unsafe during dlopen, and a subsequent commit can remove signal
blocking from dlopen.

This does not address pre-existing issues (unrelated to the NODELETE
changes) which make lazy binding in a signal handler during dlopen
unsafe, such as the use of malloc in both cases.

0487ebed22 nptl: Add more missing placeholder abi symbol from nanosleep move
This patch adds the missing __libpthread_version_placeholder for
GLIBC_2.2.6 version from the nanosleep implementation move from
libpthread to libc (79a547b162).

It also fixes the wrong compat symbol definitions added by changing
back the version used on vfork check and remove the
__libpthread_version_placeholder added on some ABI (4f4bb489e0).

The __libpthread_version_placeholder is also refactored to make it
simpler to add new compat_symbols by adding a new macro
compat_symbol_unique which uses the compiler extension __COUNTER__
to generate unique strong alias to be used with compat_symbol.

Checked with a updated-abi on the all affected abis of the nanosleep
move.

cae1635a70 y2038: linux: Provide __timer_settime64 implementation
This patch provides new __timer_settime64 explicit 64 bit function for setting
flags, interval and value of specified timer.
Moreover, a 32 bit version - __timer_settime has been refactored to internally
use __timer_settime64.

The __timer_settime is now supposed to be used on systems still supporting 32
bit time (__TIMESIZE != 64) - hence the necessary conversion to 64 bit struct
__timespec64 from struct timespec (and opposite when old_value pointer is
provided).

The new __timer_settime64 syscall available from Linux 5.1+ has been used, when
applicable.

The original INLINE_SYSCALL() macro has been replaced with
INLINE_SYSCALL_CALL() to avoid explicit passing the number of arguments.

Build tests:
- The code has been tested on x86_64/x86 (native compilation):
make PARALLELMFLAGS="-j8" && make check PARALLELMFLAGS="-j8" && \\
make xcheck PARALLELMFLAGS="-j8"

- The glibc has been build tested (make PARALLELMFLAGS="-j8") for
x86 (i386), x86_64-x32, and armv7

- Linux v4.19 (no timer_settime64 support) with default minimal kernel version
  for contemporary glibc (3.2.0)
  This kernel doesn't support timer_settime64 syscall, so the fallback to
  timer_settime is tested.

Above tests were performed with Y2038 redirection applied as well as without
(so the __TIMESIZE != 64 execution path is checked as well).

No regressions were observed.

4b135425d8 time: Introduce glibc's internal struct __itimerspec64
This change provides the glibc's internal struct itimerspec representation,
which is explicitly supporting 64 bit time (by using struct __timespec64).

Such representation is necessary to provide correct time after Y2038
(time_t overflow) on devices with __TIMESIZE == 32.

ec138c67cb sysdeps/clock_gettime: Use clock_gettime64 if avaliable
With the clock_gettime64 call we prefer to use vDSO. There is no call
to clock_gettime64 on glibc with older headers and kernel 5.1+ if it
doesn't support vDSO.

66fa30828a ldbl-128ibm-compat: Add strfmon_l with IEEE long double format
Similarly to what has been done for printf-like functions, more
specifically to the internal implementation in __vfprintf_internal, this
patch extends __vstrfmon_l_internal to deal with long double values with
binary128 format (as a third format option and reusing the float128
implementation).

Tested for powerpc64le, powerpc64, x86_64, and with build-many-glibcs.

f63b73814f Remove all loaded objects if dlopen fails, ignoring NODELETE [BZ #20839]
This introduces a “pending NODELETE” state in the link map, which is
flipped to the persistent NODELETE state late in dlopen, via
activate_nodelete.    During initial relocation, symbol binding
records pending NODELETE state only.  dlclose ignores pending NODELETE
state.  Taken together, this results that a partially completed dlopen
is rolled back completely because new NODELETE mappings are unloaded.

Tested on x86_64-linux-gnu and i386-linux-gnu.

functions to their ISO C99 compliant versions should happen, it
accidentally missed doing it for vfwscanf, vwscanf, and vswscanf.

Tested for powerpc64le and with build-many-glibcs (i686-linux-gnu and
nios2-linux-gnu are failing with current master, and with this patch,
but I didn't see a regression).

e21a786771 Avoid zero-length array at the end of struct link_map [BZ #25097]
l_audit ends up as an internal array with _rtld_global, and GCC 10
warns about this.

This commit does not change the layout of _rtld_global, so it is
suitable for backporting.  Future changes could allocate more of the
audit state dynamically and remove it from always-allocated data
structures, to optimize the common case of inactive auditing.

(__TIMESIZE != 64) - hence the necessary conversion to 64 bit struct
__timespec64.

The new ppoll_time64 syscall available from Linux 5.1+ has been used, when
applicable.

The Linux kernel checks if passed tv_nsec value overflows, so there is no need
to repeat it in the glibc.

When ppoll syscall on systems supporting 32 bit time ABI is used, the check is
performed if passed data (which may have 64 bit tv_sec) fits into 32 bit range.

Build tests:

2e44b10b42 sysdeps/clock_nanosleep: Use clock_nanosleep_time64 if avaliable
The clock_nanosleep syscall is not supported on newer 32-bit platforms (such
as RV32). To fix this issue let's use clock_nanosleep_time64 if it is
avaliable.

3537ecb49c Refactor nanosleep in terms of clock_nanosleep
The generic version is straightforward.  For Hurd, its nanosleep
implementation is moved to clock_nanosleep with adjustments from
generic unix implementation.

The generic clock_nanosleep unix version is also removed since
it calls nanosleep.

setting access and modification time of file (by using its file descriptor).
Moreover, a 32 bit version - __futimens has been refactored to internally use
__futimens64.

The __futimens is now supposed to be used on systems still supporting
32 bit time (__TIMESIZE != 64) - hence the necessary conversions to 64 bit
struct __timespec64.
When pointer to struct __timespec64 is NULL - the file access and modification
time is set to the current one (by the kernel) and no conversions from struct
timespec to __timespec64 are performed.

The __futimens64 reuses __utimensat64_helper defined for __utimensat64.

The test procedure for __futimens64 is the same as for __utimensat64 conversion
patch.

5e46749c64 Use clock_gettime to implement gettimeofday.
Consolidate generic gettimeofday implementation to use clock_gettime.
Linux ports that still provide gettimeofday through vDSO are not
changed.

Remove sysdeps/unix/clock_gettime.c, which implemented clock_gettime
using gettimeofday; new OS ports must provide a real implementation of
clock_gettime.

Rename sysdeps/mach/gettimeofday.c to sysdeps/mach/clock_gettime.c and
convert into an implementation of clock_gettime.  It only supports
CLOCK_REALTIME; Mach does not appear to have any support for monotonic
clocks.  It uses __host_get_time, which provides at best microsecond
resolution.  Hurd is currently using sysdeps/posix/clock_getres.c for
clock_getres; its output for CLOCK_REALTIME is based on
sysconf (_SC_CLK_TCK), and I do not know whether that gives the
correct result.

Unlike settimeofday, there are no known uses of gettimeofday's
vestigial "get time zone" feature that are not bugs.  (The per-process
timezone support in localtime and friends is unrelated, and the
programs that set the kernel's offset between the hardware clock and
UTC do not need to read it back.)  Therefore, this feature is dummied
out.  Henceforth, if gettimeofday's "struct timezone" argument is not
NULL, it will write zeroes to both fields.  Any program that is
actually looking at this data will thus think it is running in UTC,
which is probably more correct than whatever it was doing before.

[__]gettimeofday no longer has any internal callers, so we can now
remove its internal prototype and PLT bypass aliases.  The
__gettimeofday@GLIBC_2.0 export remains, in case it is used by any
third-party code.

It also allows to simplify the arch-specific implementation on x86 and
powerpc to remove the hack to disable the internal route to non iFUNC
variant for internal symbol.

This patch also fixes a missing optimization on aarch64, powerpc, and
x86 where the code used on static build do not use the vDSO.

Checked on x86_64-linux-gnu, i686-linux-gnu, powerpc64le-linux-gnu,
powerpc64-linux-gnu, powerpc-linux-gnu, and aarch64-linux-gnu.

f9a7554009 Change most internal uses of time to __clock_gettime.
As for gettimeofday, time will be implemented based on clock_gettime
on all platforms and internal code should use clock_gettime
directly.  In addition to removing a layer of indirection, this will
allow us to remove the PLT-bypass gunk for gettimeofday.

The changed code always assumes __clock_gettime (CLOCK_REALTIME)
or __clock_gettime (CLOCK_REALTIME_COARSE) (for Linux case) cannot
fail, using the same rationale for gettimeofday change.  And internal
helper was added (time_now).

Checked on x86_64-linux-gnu, i686-linux-gnu, powerpc64le-linux-gnu,
powerpc64-linux-gnu, and powerpc-linux-gnu.

c3f9aef063 Use clock_settime to implement settimeofday.
Unconditionally, on all ports, use clock_settime to implement
settimeofday.  Remove sysdeps/unix/clock_settime.c, which implemented
clock_settime by calling settimeofday; new OS ports must henceforth
provide a real implementation of clock_settime.

Hurd had a real implementation of settimeofday but not of
clock_settime; this patch converts it into an implementation of
clock_settime.  It only supports CLOCK_REALTIME and microsecond
resolution; Hurd/Mach does not appear to have any support for
finer-resolution clocks.

The vestigial "set time zone" feature of settimeofday complicates the
generic settimeofday implementation a little.  The only remaining uses
of this feature that aren't just bugs, are using it to inform the
Linux kernel of the offset between the hardware clock and UTC, on
systems where the hardware clock doesn't run in UTC (usually because
of dual-booting with Windows).  There currently isn't any other way to
do this.  However, the callers that do this call settimeofday with
_only_ the timezone argument non-NULL.  Therefore, glibc's new
behavior is: callers of settimeofday must supply one and only one of
the two arguments.  If both arguments are non-NULL, or both arguments
are NULL, the call fails and sets errno to EINVAL.

When only the timeval argument is supplied, settimeofday calls
__clock_settime(CLOCK_REALTIME), same as stime.

When only the timezone argument is supplied, settimeofday calls a new
internal function called __settimezone.  On Linux, only, this function
will pass the timezone structure to the settimeofday system call.  On
all other operating systems, and on Linux architectures that don't
define __NR_settimeofday, __settimezone is a stub that always sets
errno to ENOSYS and returns -1.

The settimeoday syscall is enabled on Linux by the flag
COMPAT_32BIT_TIME, which is an option to either 32-bits ABIs or COMPAT
builds (defined usually by 64-bit kernels that want to support 32-bit
 ABIs, such as x86).  The idea to future 64-bit time_t only ABIs
is to not provide settimeofday syscall.

The same semantics are implemented for Linux/Alpha's GLIBC_2.0 compat
symbol for settimeofday.

There are no longer any internal callers of __settimeofday, so the
internal prototype is removed.

Checked on x86_64-linux-gnu, i686-linux-gnu, powerpc64le-linux-gnu,
powerpc64-linux-gnu, powerpc-linux-gnu, and aarch64-linux-gnu.

177a3d48a1 y2038: linux: Provide __clock_getres64 implementation
This patch provides new __clock_getres64 explicit 64 bit function for
getting the resolution (precision) of specified clock ID. Moreover, a
32 bit version - __clock_getres has been refactored to internally use
__clock_getres64.

The __clock_getres is now supposed to be used on systems still supporting
32 bit time (__TIMESIZE != 64) - hence the necessary conversion from 64 bit
struct __timespec64 to struct timespec.

The new clock_getres_time64 syscall available from Linux 5.1+ has been used,
when applicable.
On systems which are not supporting clock_getres_time64 (as their
clock_getres supports 64 bit time ABI) the vDSO syscall is attempted.
On the contrary the non-vDSO syscall is used for clock_getres_time64 as
up till now the kernel is not providing such interface.

No additional checks (i.e. if tv_nsec value overflow) are performed on
values returned via clock_getres{_time64} syscall, as it is assumed that
the Linux kernel will either return 0 and provide correct value or error.

The check for tv_sec being out of range on systems still supporting 32 bit
time (__TIMESIZE != 64) without Y2038 time support is also omitted as it is
_very_ unlikely that we would have a timer with resolution which exceeds 32
bit time_t range.

Build tests:

4812365660 time: Introduce function to check correctness of nanoseconds value
The valid_nanoseconds () static inline function has been introduced to
check if nanoseconds value is in the correct range - greater or equal to
zero and less than 1000000000.

The explicit #include <time.h> has been added to files where it was
missing.

The __syscall_slong_t type for ns has been used to avoid issues on x32.

Tested with:
- scripts/build-many-glibcs.py
- make PARALLELMFLAGS="-j12" && make PARALLELMFLAGS="-j12" xcheck on x86_64

765cdd0bff sysvipc: Implement semop based on semtimedop
Besides semop being a subset of semtimedop, new 32-bit architectures
on Linux are not expected to provide the syscall (only the 64-bit time
semtimedop).

Also, Linux 5.1 only wired-up semtimedop for the 64-bit architectures
that missed it (powerpc, s390, and sparc).  This simplifies the code
to support it.

Checked on x86_64-linux-gnu and i686-linux-gnu.

db8cbc6a7a posix: Use posix_spawn for wordexp
This patch replaces the fork+exec by posix_spawn on wordexp, which
allows a better scability on Linux and simplifies the thread
cancellation handling.

The only change which can not be implemented with posix_spawn the
/dev/null check to certify it is indeed the expected device.  I am
not sure how effetive this check is since /dev/null tampering means
something very wrong with the system and this is the least of the
issues.  My view is the tests is really out of the place and the
hardening provided is minimum.

If the idea is still to provide such check, I think a possibilty
would be to open /dev/null, check it, add a dup2 file action, and
close the file descriptor.

Checked on powerpc64le-linux-gnu and x86_64-linux-gnu.

aa706e13f4 Split up endian.h to minimize exposure of BYTE_ORDER.
With only two exceptions (sys/types.h and sys/param.h, both of which
historically might have defined BYTE_ORDER) the public headers that
include <endian.h> only want to be able to test __BYTE_ORDER against
__*_ENDIAN.

This patch creates a new bits/endian.h that can be included by any
header that wants to be able to test __BYTE_ORDER and/or
__FLOAT_WORD_ORDER against the __*_ENDIAN constants, or needs
__LONG_LONG_PAIR.  It only defines macros in the implementation
namespace.

The existing bits/endian.h (which could not be included independently
of endian.h, and only defines __BYTE_ORDER and maybe __FLOAT_WORD_ORDER)
is renamed to bits/endianness.h.  I also took the opportunity to
canonicalize the form of this header, which we are stuck with having
one copy of per architecture.  Since they are so short, this means git
doesn’t understand that they were renamed from existing headers, sigh.

endian.h itself is a nonstandard header and its only remaining use
from a standard header is guarded by __USE_MISC, so I dropped the
__USE_MISC conditionals from around all of the public-namespace things
it defines.  (This means, an application that requests strict library
conformance but includes endian.h will still see the definition of
BYTE_ORDER.)

A few changes to specific bits/endian(ness).h variants deserve
mention:

 - sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/ia64/bits/endian.h is moved to
   sysdeps/ia64/bits/endianness.h.  If I remember correctly, ia64 did
   have selectable endianness, but we have assembly code in
   sysdeps/ia64 that assumes it’s little-endian, so there is no reason
   to treat the ia64 endianness.h as linux-specific.

 - The C-SKY port does not fully support big-endian mode, the compile
   will error out if __CSKYBE__ is defined.

 - The PowerPC port had extra logic in its bits/endian.h to detect a
   broken compiler, which strikes me as unnecessary, so I removed it.

 - The only files that defined __FLOAT_WORD_ORDER always defined it to
   the same value as __BYTE_ORDER, so I removed those definitions.
   The SH bits/endian(ness).h had comments inconsistent with the
   actual setting of __FLOAT_WORD_ORDER, which I also removed.

 - I *removed* copyright boilerplate from the few bits/endian(ness).h
   headers that had it; these files record a single fact in a fashion
   dictated by an external spec, so I do not think they are copyrightable.

As long as I was changing every copy of ieee754.h in the tree, I
noticed that only the MIPS variant includes float.h, because it uses
LDBL_MANT_DIG to decide among three different versions of
ieee854_long_double.  This patch makes it not include float.h when
GCC’s intrinsic __LDBL_MANT_DIG__ is available.

464cd3a9d5 y2038: Introduce struct __timespec64 - new internal glibc type
This type is a glibc's "internal" type similar to struct timespec but
whose tv_sec field is a __time64_t rather than a time_t, which makes it
Y2038-proof and usable to pass syscalls between user code and Y2038-proof
kernel.

To support passing this structure to the kernel - the unnamed 32 bit
padding bit-field has been introduced. The placement of it depends on
the endianness of the SoC.

Tested on x86_64 and ARM.

7b5af2d8f2 Finish move of clock_* functions to libc. [BZ #24959]
In glibc 2.17, the functions clock_getcpuclockid, clock_getres,
clock_gettime, clock_nanosleep, and clock_settime were moved from
librt.so to libc.so, leaving compatibility stubs behind.  Now that the
dynamic linker no longer insists on finding versioned symbols in the
same library that originally defined them, we do not need the stubs
anymore, and this means we don't need GLIBC_PRIVATE __-prefix aliases
for most of the functions anymore either.  (clock_gettime still needs
one.)  For ports added before 2.17, libc.so needs to provide two
symbol versions for each, the default at GLIBC_2.17 plus a compat
version matching what librt had.

While I'm at it, move the clock_*.c files and their tests from rt/ to
time/.

a289ea09ea Do not print backtraces on fatal glibc errors
If the process is in a bad state, we used to print backtraces in
many cases.  This is problematic because doing so could involve
a lot of work, like loading libgcc_s using the dynamic linker,
and this could itself be targeted by exploit writers.  For example,
if the crashing process was forked from a long-lived process, the
addresses in the error message could be used to bypass ASLR.

Commit ed421fca42 ("Avoid backtrace from
__stack_chk_fail [BZ #12189]"), backtraces where no longer printed
because backtrace_and_maps was always called with do_abort == 1.

Rather than fixing this logic error, this change removes the backtrace
functionality from the sources.  With the prevalence of external crash
handlers, it does not appear to be particularly useful.  The crash
handler may also destroy useful information for debugging.

42760d7646 Make totalorder and totalordermag functions take pointer arguments.
The resolution of C floating-point Clarification Request 25
<http://www.open-std.org/jtc1/sc22/wg14/www/docs/n2397.htm#dr_25> is
that the totalorder and totalordermag functions should take pointer
arguments, and this has been adopted in C2X (with const added; note
that the integration of this change into C2X is present in the C
standard git repository but postdates the most recent public PDF
draft).

This patch updates glibc accordingly.  As a defect resolution, the API
is changed unconditionally rather than supporting any sort of TS
18661-1 mode for compilation with the old version of the API.  There
are compat symbols for existing binaries that pass floating-point
arguments directly.  As a consequence of changing to pointer
arguments, there are no longer type-generic macros in tgmath.h for
these functions.

Because of the fairly complicated logic for creating libm function
aliases and determining the set of aliases to create in a given glibc
configuration, rather than duplicating all that in individual source
files to create the versioned and compat symbols, the source files for
the various versions of totalorder functions are set up to redefine
weak_alias before using libm_alias_* macros to create the symbols
required.  In turn, this requires creating a separate alias for each
symbol version pointing to the same implementation (see binutils bug
<https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=23840>), which is
done automatically using __COUNTER__.  (As I noted in
<https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2018-10/msg00631.html>, it might
well make sense for glibc's symbol versioning macros to do that alias
creation with __COUNTER__ themselves, which would somewhat simplify
the logic in the totalorder source files.)

It is of course desirable to test the compat symbols.  I did this with
the generic libm-test machinery, but didn't wish to duplicate the
actual tables of test inputs and outputs, and thought it risky to
attempt to have a single object file refer to both default and compat
versions of the same function in order to test them together.  Thus, I
created libm-test-compat_totalorder.inc and
libm-test-compat_totalordermag.inc which include the generated .c
files (with the processed version of those tables of inputs) from the
non-compat tests, and added appropriate dependencies.  I think this
provides sufficient test coverage for the compat symbols without also
needing to make the special ldbl-96 and ldbl-128ibm tests (of
peculiarities relating to the representations of those formats that
can't be covered in the generic tests) run for the compat symbols.

Tests of compat symbols need to be internal tests, meaning _ISOMAC is
not defined.  Making some libm-test tests into internal tests showed
up two other issues.  GCC diagnoses duplicate macro definitions of
__STDC_* macros, including __STDC_WANT_IEC_60559_TYPES_EXT__; I added

On ia64, include/setjmp.h ends up getting included indirectly from
libm-symbols.h, resulting in conflicting definitions of the STR macro
(also defined in libm-test-driver.c); I renamed the macros in
include/setjmp.h.  (It's arguable that we should have common internal
headers used everywhere for stringizing and concatenation macros.)

Tested for x86_64 and x86, and with build-many-glibcs.py.

Annex F are unconditionally visible in C2X rather than only visible

777d75fbc0 Add feature test macro _ISOC2X_SOURCE.
This patch starts preparation for C2X support in glibc headers by
adding a feature test macro _ISOC2X_SOURCE and corresponding
__GLIBC_USE (ISOC2X).  (I chose to use the newer __GLIBC_USE style for
this rather than the older __USE_* macros tested with #ifdef.)  As
with other such macros, C2X features are also enabled by compiling for
a standard newer than C17, or by using _GNU_SOURCE.

This patch does not itself enable anything new in the headers for C2X;
that is to be done in followup patches.  (For example, most of the TS
18661-1 functions should be declared for C2X without any
__STDC_WANT_IEC_60559_BFP_EXT__ being needed, but the ones that
18661-1 adds to Annex F because of their close relation to IEEE 754
formats do still need the WANT macro in C2X.)

Once C2X becomes an actual standard we'll presumably move to using the
actual year in the feature test macro and __GLIBC_USE, with some
period when both macro spellings are accepted, as was done with
_ISOC9X_SOURCE.

Tested for x86_64.

Now that there are no internal users of __sysctl left, it is possible
to add an unconditional deprecation warning to <sys/sysctl.h>.

To avoid a test failure due this warning in check-install-headers,

51ea67d548 Linux: Add getdents64 system call
No 32-bit system call wrapper is added because the interface
is problematic because it cannot deal with 64-bit inode numbers
and 64-bit directory hashes.

A future commit will deprecate the undocumented getdirentries

Keep these functions compatible with Gnulib while adding

32d85c116d alloc_buffer: Return unqualified pointer type in alloc_buffer_next
alloc_buffer_next is useful for peeking to the remaining part of the
buffer and update it, with subsequent allocation (once the length
is known) using alloc_buffer_alloc_bytes.  This is not as robust
as the other interfaces, but it allows using alloc_buffer with
string-writing interfaces such as snprintf and ns_name_ntop.

359653aaac Do not use HP_TIMING_NOW for random bits
This patch removes the HP_TIMING_BITS usage for fast random bits and replace
with clock_gettime (CLOCK_MONOTONIC).  It has unspecified starting time and
nano-second accuracy, so its randomness is significantly better than
gettimeofday.

Althoug it should incur in more overhead (specially for architecture that
support hp-timing), the symbol is also common implemented as a vDSO.

Checked on aarch64-linux-gnu, x86_64-linux-gnu, and i686-linux-gnu. I also
checked on a i686-gnu build.

With clock_getres, clock_gettime, and clock_settime refactor to remove the
generic CLOCK_PROCESS_CPUTIME_ID and CLOCK_THREAD_CPUTIME_ID support through
hp-timing, there is no usage of internal __get_clockfreq.  This patch removes
both generic and Linux implementation..

a0a0dc8317 Remove obsolete, never-implemented XSI STREAMS declarations
The stub implementations are turned into compat symbols.

Linux actually has two reserved system call numbers (for getpmsg
and putpmsg), but these system calls have never been implemented,
and there are no plans to implement them, so this patch replaces
the wrappers with the generic stubs.

According to <https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=436349>,
the presence of the XSI STREAMS declarations is a minor portability
hazard because they are not actually implemented.

This commit does not change the TIRPC support code in
sunrpc/rpc_svcout.c.  It uses additional XTI functionality and
therefore never worked with glibc.

On platforms where long double may have the same format as double
(-mlong-double-64), error and error_at_line do not take that into
account and might produce wrong output if a long double conversion is
requested by the format string ('%Lf').  This patch adds compatibility
functions for this situation and redirects calls via header magic.

Tested for powerpc, powerpc64 and powerpc64le.

When support for long double format with 128-bits (-mlong-double-128)

81a1443941 wcsmbs: optimize wcscat
This patch rewrites wcscat using wcslen and wcscpy.  This is similar to
the optimization done on strcat by 6e46de42fe.

The strcpy changes are mainly to add the internal alias to avoid PLT
calls.

34a5a1460e Break some lines before not after operators.
The GNU Coding Standards specify that line breaks in expressions
should go before an operator, not after one.  This patch fixes various
code to do this.  It only changes code that appears to be mostly
following GNU style anyway, not files and directories with
substantially different formatting.  It is not exhaustive even for
files using GNU style (for example, changes to sysdeps files are
deferred for subsequent cleanups).  Some files changed are shared with
gnulib, but most are specific to glibc.  Changes were made manually,
with places to change found by grep (so some cases, e.g. where the
operator was followed by a comment at end of line, are particularly
liable to have been missed by grep, but I did include cases where the
operator was followed by backslash-newline).

This patch generally does not attempt to address other coding style
issues in the expressions changed (for example, missing spaces before
'(', or lack of parentheses to ensure indentation of continuation
lines properly reflects operator precedence).

Tested for x86_64, and with build-many-glibcs.py.

f43b8dd555 Add internal implementations for argp.h, err.h, and error.h functions
Since the introduction of explicit flags in the internal implementation
of the printf family of functions, the 'mode' parameter can be used to
select which format long double parameters have (with the mode flag:
PRINTF_LDBL_IS_DBL).  This patch uses this feature in the implementation
of some functions in argp.h, err.h, and error.h (only those that take a
format string and positional parameters).  Future patches will add
support for 'nldbl' and 'ieee128' versions of these functions.

Tested for powerpc64le and x86_64.

0538372096 Fix -Wempty-body warnings in glibc.
One group of warnings seen building glibc with -Wextra is -Wempty-body
warnings about an 'if' body (or in one case an 'else' body) that is
just a semicolon, "warning: suggest braces around empty body in an
'if' statement [-Wempty-body]" - I think the point of the warning
being to make it more visible whether an 'if' body is actually present
or not.

This patch fixes such warnings in glibc.  There's one place, with a
semicolon at the end of a comment, where this is clearly making the
presence of an 'else' body more visible.  The other cases involve
macro definitions expanding to nothing.  While there's no issue there
with visibility at the call sites, I think it's still cleaner to have
a macro that expands to something nonempty appropriate for the context
- so do {} while (0) if it's only intended to be usable as a
statement, or ((void) 0) where the macro definition is an alternative
to a call to a function returning void, so this patch makes those
changes.

Tested for x86_64.

e47d82c99a Provide <bits/unistd_ext.h> as a sysdeps header exclusively
Non-sysdeps headers cannot be overriden by sysdeps headers across the
entire build, so it is necessary to turn such extension headers into
sysdeps headers themselves.  The approach here follows the existing
<bits/shm.h> header (although it uses sysdeps/gnu instead of
sysdeps/generic).

f1ac745583 arm: Use "nr" constraint for Systemtap probes [BZ #24164]
With the default "nor" constraint, current GCC will use the "o"
constraint for constants, after emitting the constant to memory.  That
results in unparseable Systemtap probe notes such as "-4@.L1052".
Removing the "o" alternative and using "nr" instead avoids this.

108bc4049f CVE-2016-10739: getaddrinfo: Fully parse IPv4 address strings [BZ #20018]
The IPv4 address parser in the getaddrinfo function is changed so that
it does not ignore trailing whitespace and all characters after it.
For backwards compatibility, the getaddrinfo function still recognizes
legacy name syntax, such as 192.000.002.010 interpreted as 192.0.2.8
(octal).

This commit does not change the behavior of inet_addr and inet_aton.
gethostbyname already had additional sanity checks (but is switched
over to the new __inet_aton_exact function for completeness as well).

To avoid sending the problematic query names over DNS, commit
6ca53a2453 ("resolv: Do not send queries
for non-host-names in nss_dns [BZ #24112]") is needed.

Use C99-compliant scanf under _GNU_SOURCE with modern compilers.
The only difference between noncompliant and C99-compliant scanf is
that the former accepts the archaic GNU extension '%as' (also %aS and
%a[...]) meaning to allocate space for the input string with malloc.
This extension conflicts with C99's use of %a as a format _type_
meaning to read a floating-point number; POSIX.1-2008 standardized
equivalent functionality using the modifier letter 'm' instead (%ms,
%mS, %m[...]).

The extension was already disabled in most conformance modes:
specifically, any mode that doesn't involve _GNU_SOURCE and _does_
involve either strict conformance to C99 or loose conformance to both
C99 and POSIX.1-2001 would get the C99-compliant scanf.  With
compilers new enough to use -std=gnu11 instead of -std=gnu89, or
equivalent, that includes the default mode.

With this patch, we now provide C99-compliant scanf in all
configurations except when _GNU_SOURCE is defined *and*
__STDC_VERSION__ or __cplusplus (whichever is relevant) indicates
C89/C++98.  This leaves the old scanf available under e.g. -std=c89
-D_GNU_SOURCE, but removes it from e.g. -std=gnu11 -D_GNU_SOURCE (it
was already not present under -std=gnu11 without -D_GNU_SOURCE) and
from -std=gnu89 without -D_GNU_SOURCE.

There needs to be an internal override so we can compile the
noncompliant scanf itself.  This is the same problem we had when we
removed 'gets' from _GNU_SOURCE and it's dealt with the same way:
there's a new __GLIBC_USE symbol, DEPRECATED_SCANF, which defaults to
off under the appropriate conditions for external code, but can be
overridden by individual files within stdio.

We also run into problems with PLT bypass for internal uses of sscanf,
because libc_hidden_proto uses __REDIRECT and so does the logic in
stdio.h for choosing which implementation of scanf to use; __REDIRECT
isn't transitive, so include/stdio.h needs to bridge the gap with a
macro.  As far as I can tell, sscanf is the only function in this
family that's internally called by unrelated code.

Finally, there are several tests in stdio-common that use the
extension.  bug21.c is a regression test for a crash; it still
exercises the relevant code when changed to use %ms instead of %as.
scanf14.c through scanf17.c are more complicated since they are
actually testing the subtleties of the extension - under what
circumstances is 'a' treated as a modifier letter, etc.  I changed all
of them to use %ms instead of %as as well, but duplicated scanf14.c
and scanf16.c as scanf14a.c and scanf16a.c.  These still use %as and
are compiled with -std=gnu89 to access the old extension.  A bunch of
diagnostic overrides and manual workarounds for the old stdio.h
behavior become unnecessary.  Yay!

ac253355ba Y2038: make __difftime compatible with 64-bit time
Provide a 64-bit-time version of __difftime (but do not assume
__time64_t is a signed int so that Gnulib can reuse the code)
and make the 32-bit version a wrapper of it.

Current difftime expects two time_t arguments and returns a
double. To preserve source-code compatibility, its 64-bit-time
equivalent expects two __time64_t arguments but still returns
a double.

This patch was tested by running 'make check' on branch
master then applying this patch and its two predecessors and
running 'make check' again, and checking that both 'make check'
yield identical results. This was done on x86_64-linux-gnu and
i686-linux-gnu.

This patch was also functionally tested with an ad hoc userland
C program which checks the result of difftime for various pairs
of 32-bit and, for 64-bit builds, of 64-bit time_t values too.
The program was built and run against a glibc with and without
the patch, and the results compared to ensure the patch does
not change the behavior of difftime.

1a502f5260 Add *-ldbl.h headers to include/bits
On some platforms, long double may have either the same format as double
or another, wider format, such as the Quadruple IEC 60559 long double
format or the IBM Extended Precision format (both 128-bits wide).
Selecting between the available formats is done by using one of the
following compiler switches: -mlong-double-128, for the wider format, or
-mlong-double-64, for the narrower.  On all platforms that provide this
choice, the wider format is the default.

When the non-default format is selected by user code (i.e.: when
building with -mlong-double-64) calls to functions that take long double
parameters or return a long double type (e.g.: strfroml) are redirected
to a compat function, via assembler redirection, by headers such as
bits/stdlib-ldbl.h or bits/misc-ldbl.h.

In glibc builds, however, these headers are currently being read from
the system directories (/usr/include/bits) rather than from the source
directory.  Although this works correctly today, it raises
reproducibility concerns.  Besides that, builds for powerpc64le will
need these files from the source directory, because on powerpc64le, the
new redirections for long double with IEEE binary128 format will be
implemented in these headers.

Tested for powerpc64 and powerpc64le.

4e2f43f842 Use PRINTF_FORTIFY instead of _IO_FLAGS2_FORTIFY (bug 11319)
The _chk variants of all of the printf functions become much simpler.
This is the last thing that we needed _IO_acquire_lock_clear_flags2
for, so it can go as well.  I took the opportunity to make the headers
included and the names of all local variables consistent across all the
affected files.

Since we ultimately want to get rid of __no_long_double as well, it
must be possible to get all of the nontrivial effects of the _chk
functions by calling the _internal functions with appropriate flags.
For most of the __(v)xprintf_chk functions, this is covered by
PRINTF_FORTIFY plus some up-front argument checks that can be
duplicated.  However, __(v)sprintf_chk installs a custom jump table so
that it can crash instead of overflowing the output buffer.  This
functionality is moved to __vsprintf_internal, which now has a
'maxlen' argument like __vsnprintf_internal; to get the unsafe
behavior of ordinary (v)sprintf, pass -1 for that argument.

obstack_printf_chk and obstack_vprintf_chk are no longer in the same
file.

As a side-effect of the unification of both fortified and non-fortified
vdprintf initialization, this patch fixes bug 11319 for __dprintf_chk
and __vdprintf_chk, which was previously fixed only for dprintf and
vdprintf by the commit

124fc732c1 Add __vsyslog_internal, with same flags as __v*printf_internal.
__nldbl___vsyslog_chk will ultimately want to pass PRINTF_LDBL_IS_DBL
down to __vfprintf_internal *as well as* possibly setting PRINTF_FORTIFY.
To make that possible, we need a __vsyslog_internal that takes the
same flags as printf.  The code in misc/syslog.c does also get a
little simpler.

698fb75b9f Add __v*printf_internal with flags arguments
There are a lot more printf variants than there are scanf variants,
and the code for setting up and tearing down their custom FILE
variants around the call to __vf(w)printf is more complicated and
variable.  Therefore, I have added _internal versions of all the
v*printf variants, rather than introducing helper routines so that
they can all directly call __vf(w)printf_internal, as was done with
scanf.

As with the scanf changes, in this patch the _internal functions still
look at the environmental mode bits and all callers pass 0 for the
flags parameter.

Several of the affected public functions had _IO_ name aliases that
were not exported (but, in one case, appeared in libio.h anyway);
I was originally planning to leave them as aliases to avoid having
to touch internal callers, but it turns out ldbl_*_alias only work
for exported symbols, so they've all been removed instead.  It also
turns out there were hardly any internal callers.  _IO_vsprintf and
_IO_vfprintf *are* exported, so those two stick around.

Summary for the changes to each of the affected symbols:

  _IO_vfprintf, _IO_vsprintf:
    All internal calls removed, thus the internal declarations, as well
    as uses of libc_hidden_proto and libc_hidden_def, were also removed.
    The external symbol is now exposed via uses of ldbl_strong_alias
    to __vfprintf_internal and __vsprintf_internal, respectively.

  _IO_vasprintf, _IO_vdprintf, _IO_vsnprintf,
  _IO_vfwprintf, _IO_vswprintf,
  _IO_obstack_vprintf, _IO_obstack_printf:
    All internal calls removed, thus declaration in internal headers
    were also removed.  They were never exported, so there are no
    aliases tying them to the internal functions.  I.e.: entirely gone.

  __vsnprintf:
    Internal calls were always preceded by macros such as
      #define __vsnprintf _IO_vsnprintf, and
      #define __vsnprintf vsnprintf
    The macros were removed and their uses replaced with calls to the
    new internal function __vsnprintf_internal.  Since there were no
    internal calls, the internal declaration was also removed.  The
    external symbol is preserved with ldbl_weak_alias to ___vsnprintf.

  __vfwprintf:
    All internal calls converted into calls to __vfwprintf_internal,
    thus the internal declaration was removed.  The function is now a
    wrapper that calls __vfwprintf_internal.  The external symbol is
    preserved.

  __vswprintf:
    Similarly, but no external symbol.

  __vasprintf, __vdprintf, __vfprintf, __vsprintf:
    New internal wrappers.  Not exported.

  vasprintf, vdprintf, vfprintf, vsprintf, vsnprintf,
  vfwprintf, vswprintf,
  obstack_vprintf, obstack_printf:
    These functions used to be aliases to the respective _IO_* function,
    they are now aliases to their respective __* functions.

e5d262effe Fix _dl_profile_fixup data-dependency issue (Bug 23690)
There is a data-dependency between the fields of struct l_reloc_result
and the field used as the initialization guard. Users of the guard
expect writes to the structure to be observable when they also observe
the guard initialized. The solution for this problem is to use an acquire
and release load and store to ensure previous writes to the structure are
observable if the guard is initialized.

The previous implementation used DL_FIXUP_VALUE_ADDR (l_reloc_result->addr)
as the initialization guard, making it impossible for some architectures
to load and store it atomically, i.e. hppa and ia64, due to its larger size.

This commit adds an unsigned int to l_reloc_result to be used as the new
initialization guard of the struct, making it possible to load and store
it atomically in all architectures. The fix ensures that the values
observed in l_reloc_result are consistent and do not lead to crashes.
The algorithm is documented in the code in elf/dl-runtime.c
(_dl_profile_fixup). Not all data races have been eliminated.

Tested with build-many-glibcs and on powerpc, powerpc64, and powerpc64le.

c75772e3f0 Use STRFMON_LDBL_IS_DBL instead of __ldbl_is_dbl.
On platforms where long double used to have the same format as double,
but later switched to a different format (alpha, s390, sparc, and
powerpc), accessing the older behavior is possible and it happens via
__nldbl_* functions (not on the API, but accessible from header
redirection and from compat symbols).  These functions write to the
global flag __ldbl_is_dbl, which tells other functions that long double
variables should be handled as double.  This patch takes the first step
towards removing this global flag and creates __vstrfmon_l_internal,
which takes an explicit flags parameter.

This change arguably makes the generated code slightly worse on
architectures where __ldbl_is_dbl is never true; right now, on those
architectures, it's a compile-time constant; after this change, the
compiler could theoretically prove that __vstrfmon_l_internal was
never called with a nonzero flags argument, but it would probably need
LTO to do it.  This is not performance critical code and I tend to
think that the maintainability benefits of removing action at a
distance are worth it.  However, we _could_ wrap the runtime flag
check with a macro that was defined to ignore its argument and always
return false on architectures where __ldbl_is_dbl is never true, if
people think the codegen benefits are important.

9c4b457e1b Add hidden_tls_def macros, fix powerpc-soft build with GCC 9.
Soft-float powerpc fails to build with current GCC mainline because of
use of libc_hidden_data_def for TLS variables, resulting in a non-TLS
alias being defined, to which the tls_model attribute is now copied,
resulting in a warning about it being ignored.

The problem here appears to be the non-TLS alias.  This patch adds a
hidden_tls_def macro family, corresponding to the hidden_tls_proto
macros, to define TLS aliases properly in such a case, and uses it for
those powerpc soft-float variables.

Tested with build-many-glibcs.py compilers build for powerpc-linux-gnu
soft-float.  Also tested for x86_64.

1626a1cfcd Add support for GCC 9 attribute copy.
GCC 9 has gained an enhancement to help detect attribute mismatches
between alias declarations and their targets.  It consists of a new
warning, -Wattribute-alias, an enhancement to an existing warning,
-Wmissing-attributes, and a new attribute called copy.

The purpose of the warnings is to help identify either possible bugs
(an alias declared with more restrictive attributes than its target
promises) or optimization or diagnostic opportunities (an alias target
missing some attributes that it could be declared with that might
benefit analysis and code generation).  The purpose of the new
attribute is to easily apply (almost) the same set of attributes
to one declaration as those already present on another.

As expected (and intended) the enhancement triggers warnings for
many alias declarations in Glibc code.  This change, tested on
x86_64-linux, avoids all instances of the new warnings by making
use of the attribute where appropriate.  To fully benefit from
the enhancement Glibc will need to be compiled with
 -Wattribute-alias=2 and remaining warnings reviewed and dealt with
(there are a couple of thousand but most should be straightforward
to deal with).

d51f99ce80 Y2038: Add 64-bit time for all architectures
glibc support for 64-bit time_t on 32-bit architectures
will involve:

- Using 64-bit times inside glibc, with conversions
  to and from 32-bit times taking place as necessary
  for interfaces using such times.

- Adding 64-bit-time support in the glibc public API.
  This support should be dynamic, i.e. glibc should
  provide both 32-bit and 64-bit implementations and
   let user code choose at compile time whether to use
   the 32-bit or 64-bit interfaces.

This requires a glibc-internal name for a type for times
that are always 64-bit.

Based on __TIMESIZE, a new macro is defined, __TIME64_T_TYPE,
 which is always the right __*_T_TYPE to hold a 64-bit-time.
__TIME64_T_TYPE equals __TIME_T_TYPE if __TIMESIZE equals 64
and equals __SQUAD_T_TYPE otherwise.

__time64_t can then replace uses of internal_time_t.

This patch was tested by running 'make check' on branch
master then applying this patch and its predecessor and
running 'make check' again, and checking that both 'make
check' yield identical results. This was done on
x86_64-linux-gnu and i686-linux-gnu.

81dca813cc Use copysign functions not __copysign functions in glibc libm.
Continuing the move to use, within libm, public names for libm
functions that can be inlined as built-in functions on many
architectures, this patch moves calls to __copysign functions to call
the corresponding copysign names instead, with asm redirection to
__copysign when the calls are not inlined (all cases are inlined
except for IBM long double for powerpc soft-float / e500v1).  This
eliminates the need for an inline function defining __copysign in
terms of __builtin_copysign.

9755bc4686 Use round functions not __round functions in glibc libm.
Continuing the move to use, within libm, public names for libm
functions that can be inlined as built-in functions on many
architectures, this patch moves calls to __round functions to call the
corresponding round names instead, with asm redirection to __round
when the calls are not inlined.

An additional complication arises in
sysdeps/ieee754/ldbl-128ibm/e_expl.c, where a call to roundl, with the
result converted to int, gets converted by the compiler to call
lroundl in the case of 32-bit long, so resulting in localplt test
failures.  It's logically correct to let the compiler make such an
optimization; an appropriate asm redirection of lroundl to __lroundl
is thus added to that file (it's not needed anywhere else).

Tested for x86_64, and with build-many-glibcs.py.

e1080e7e5f Fix mktime localtime offset confusion
[BZ #23603]
* include/time.h (__mktime_internal): The localtime offset is now
of type long int instead of time_t.  This is the longstanding type
in glibc, and it is more than enough to represent difference
between localtime and gmtime even if it is 32 bits and time_t is
64.  Changing it now will let us avoid an unnecessary change when
time_t is widened to 64 bits on 32-bit platforms.
* time/mktime-internal.h (mktime_offset_t): Now long int.

8e6fd2bdb2 Merge mktime, timegm from upstream Gnulib
[BZ #23603][BZ #16346]
This fixes some obscure problems with integer overflow.
Although it looks scary, it is almost all a byte-for-byte copy
from Gnulib, and the Gnulib code has been tested reasonably well.
* include/intprops.h: New file, copied from Gnulib.
* include/verify.h, time/mktime-internal.h:
New tiny files, simplified from Gnulib.
* time/mktime.c: Copy from Gnulib.  This has the following changes:
Do not include config.h if DEBUG_MKTIME is nonzero.
Include stdbool.h, intprops.h, verify.h.
Include string.h only if needed.
Include stdlib.h on MS-Windows.
Include mktime-internal.h.
(DEBUG_MKTIME): Default to 0, and simplify later uses.
(NEED_MKTIME_INTERNAL, NEED_MKTIME_WINDOWS)
(NEED_MKTIME_WORKING): Give default values to pacify -Wundef,
which glibc uses.  Default NEED_MKTIME_WORKING to DEBUG_MKTIME, to
simplify later conditionals; default the others to zero.  Use
these conditionals to express only the code needed on the current
platform.  In uses of these conditionals, explicitly spell out how
_LIBC affects things, so it’s easier to review from a glibc
viewpoint.
(WRAPV): Remove; no longer needed now that we have
systematic overflow checking.
(my_tzset, __tzset) [!_LIBC]: New function and macro, to better
compartmentalize tzset issues.  Move system-dependent tzsettish
code here from mktime.
(verify): Remove; now done by verify.h.  All uses changed.
(long_int): Use a more-conservative definition, to avoid
integer overflow.
(SHR): Remove, replacing with ...
(shr): New function, which means we needn’t worry about side
effects in args, and conversion analysis is simpler.
(TYPE_IS_INTEGER, TYPE_TWOS_COMPLEMENT, TYPE_SIGNED, TYPE_MINIMUM)
(TYPE_MAXIMUM, TIME_T_MIN, TIME_T_MAX, TIME_T_MIDPOINT)
(time_t_avg, time_t_add_ok): Remove.
(mktime_min, mktime_max): New constants.
(leapyear, isdst_differ): Use bool for booleans.
(ydhms_diff, guess_time_tm, ranged_convert, __mktime_internal):
Use long_int, not time_t, for mktime differences.
(long_int_avg): New function, replacing time_t_avg.
INT_ADD_WRAPV replaces time_t_add_ok.
(guess_time_tm): 6th arg is now long_int, not time_t const *.
All uses changed.
(convert_time): New function.
(ranged_convert): Use it.
(__mktime_internal): Last arg now points to mktime_offset_t, not
time_t.  All uses changed.  This is a no-op on glibc, where
mktime_offset_t is always time_t.  Use int, not time_t, for UTC
offset guess.  Directly check for integer overflow instead of
using a heuristic that works only 99.9...% of the time.
Access *OFFSET only once, to avoid an unlikely race if the
compiler delays a load and if this cascades into a signed integer
overflow.
(mktime): Move tzsettish code to my_tzset, and move
localtime_offset to within mktime so that it doesn’t
need a separate ifdef.
(main) [DEBUG_MKTIME]: Speed up by using localtime_r
instead of localtime.
* time/timegm.c: Copy from Gnulib.  This has the following changes:
Include mktime-internal.h.
[!_LIBC]: Include config.h and time.h.  Do not include
timegm.h or time_r.h.  Make __mktime_internal a macro,
and include mktime-internal.h to get its declaration.
(timegm): Temporary is now mktime_offset_t, not time_t.
This affects only Gnulib.

e44acb2063 Use floor functions not __floor functions in glibc libm.
Similar to the changes that were made to call sqrt functions directly
in glibc, instead of __ieee754_sqrt variants, so that the compiler
could inline them automatically without needing special inline
definitions in lots of math_private.h headers, this patch makes libm
code call floor functions directly instead of __floor variants,
removing the inlines / macros for x86_64 (SSE4.1) and powerpc
(POWER5).

The redirection used to ensure that __ieee754_sqrt does still get
called when the compiler doesn't inline a built-in function expansion
is refactored so it can be applied to other functions; the refactoring
is arranged so it's not limited to unary functions either (it would be
reasonable to use this mechanism for copysign - removing the inline in
math_private_calls.h but also eliminating unnecessary local PLT entry
use in the cases (powerpc soft-float and e500v1, for IBM long double)
where copysign calls don't get inlined).

The point of this change is that more architectures can get floor
calls inlined where they weren't previously (AArch64, for example),
without needing special inline definitions in their math_private.h,
and existing such definitions in math_private.h headers can be
removed.

Note that it's possible that in some cases an inline may be used where
an IFUNC call was previously used - this is the case on x86_64, for
example.  I think the direct calls to floor are still appropriate; if
there's any significant performance cost from inline SSE2 floor
instead of an IFUNC call ending up with SSE4.1 floor, that indicates
that either the function should be doing something else that's faster
than using floor at all, or it should itself have IFUNC variants, or
that the compiler choice of inlining for generic tuning should change
to allow for the possibility that, by not inlining, an SSE4.1 IFUNC
might be called at runtime - but not that glibc should avoid calling
floor internally.  (After all, all the same considerations would apply
to any user program calling floor, where it might either be inlined or
left as an out-of-line call allowing for a possible IFUNC.)

Tested for x86_64, and with build-many-glibcs.py.

b9d8c47472 Move float128 inlines from sysdeps/generic/math_private.h to include/math.h.
Continuing the cleanup of math_private.h, with a view to it becoming
the header for the APIs defined therein and not also a header with
inline variants of math.h APIs, this patch moves inline definitions of
__isinff128 and fabsf128 to include/math.h, so that any users of
math.h in glibc automatically get the optimized functions rather than
quietly missing them if they do not also include math_private.h.

Tested for x86_64 and x86, and with build-many-glibcs.py with GCC 6.
There are changes to installed stripped libc.so on configurations with
distinct _Float128, because of __printf_fp_l code that now gets the
__isinff128 inline where previously it called the out-of-line
function because of the lack of a math_private.h call.  It seems
appropriate that this code does get the inline (as it would
automatically with GCC 7 and later when the built-in function is used)
rather than being the only place in glibc that does not.

418d99e622 Move fenv.h soft-float inlines from fenv_private.h to include/fenv.h.
<fenv_private.h> has inline versions of various <fenv.h> functions,
and their __fe* variants, for systems (generally soft-float) without
support for floating-point exceptions, rounding modes or both.

Having these inlines in a separate header introduces a risk of a
source file including <fenv.h> and compiling OK on x86_64, but failing
to compile (because the feraiseexcept inline is actually a macro that
discards its argument, to avoid the need for #ifdef FE_INVALID
conditionals), or not being properly optimized, on systems without the
exceptions and rounding modes support (when these inlines were in
math_private.h, we had a few cases where this broke the build because
there was no obvious reason for a file to need math_private.h and it
didn't need that header on x86_64).  By moving those inlines to
include/fenv.h, this risk can be avoided, and fenv_private.h becomes
more clearly defined as specifically the header for the internal
libc_fe* and SET_RESTORE_ROUND* interfaces.

This patch makes that move, removing fenv_private.h includes that are
no longer needed (or replacing them by fenv.h includes in a few cases
that didn't already have such an include).

Tested for x86_64 and x86, and tested with build-many-glibcs.py that
installed stripped shared libraries are unchanged by the patch.

Remove conformace assumption of NPTL implementation for ISO C threads
and revert wrong libcrypt addition on linknamespace-libs-XPG4.

The i686-gnu target now shows two new conformance failures:

FAIL: conform/ISO11/threads.h/linknamespace

It is expected due missing HTL ISO C threads support and both conformance
.out files indicates the reason ("#error "HTL does not implement ISO C
threads").

ce7528f637 nptl: Add C11 threads thrd_* functions
This patch adds the thrd_* definitions from C11 threads (ISO/IEC 9899:2011),
more specifically thrd_create, thrd_curent, rhd_detach, thrd_equal,
thrd_exit, thrd_join, thrd_sleep, thrd_yield, and required types.

Mostly of the definitions are composed based on POSIX conterparts, such as
thrd_t (using pthread_t).  For thrd_* function internally direct
POSIX pthread call are used with the exceptions:

  1. thrd_start uses pthread_create internal implementation, but changes
     how to actually calls the start routine.  This is due the difference
     in signature between POSIX and C11, where former return a 'void *'
     and latter 'int'.
     To avoid calling convention issues due 'void *' to int cast, routines
     from C11 threads are started slight different than default pthread one.
     Explicit cast to expected return are used internally on pthread_create
     and the result is stored back to void also with an explicit cast.

  2. thrd_sleep uses nanosleep internal direct syscall to avoid clobbering
     errno and to handle expected standard return codes.  It is a
     cancellation entrypoint to be consistent with both thrd_join and
     cnd_{timed}wait.

  3. thrd_yield also uses internal direct syscall to avoid errno clobbering.

Checked with a build for all major ABI (aarch64-linux-gnu, alpha-linux-gnu,
arm-linux-gnueabi, i386-linux-gnu, ia64-linux-gnu, m68k-linux-gnu,
microblaze-linux-gnu [1], mips{64}-linux-gnu, nios2-linux-gnu,
powerpc{64le}-linux-gnu, s390{x}-linux-gnu, sparc{64}-linux-gnu,
and x86_64-linux-gnu).

Also ran a full check on aarch64-linux-gnu, x86_64-linux-gnu, i686-linux-gnu,
arm-linux-gnueabhf, and powerpc64le-linux-gnu.

3f5e3f5d06 libio: Implement internal function __libc_readline_unlocked
This is a variant of fgets which fails with ERANGE if the
buffer is too small, and the buffer length is given as an
argument of type size_t.

This function will be useful for implementing NSS file reading
operations.  Compared to a direct implementation using the public API,
it avoids an lseek system call in case the line terminator can be
found in the internal read buffer.

in the kernel (or in the kernel headers) and the flags argument is zero.
Without kernel support, a non-zero argument returns EINVAL, not ENOSYS.
This mirrors what the kernel does for invalid renameat2 flags.

2827ab990a libc: Extend __libc_freeres framework (Bug 23329).
The __libc_freeres framework does not extend to non-libc.so objects.
This causes problems in general for valgrind and mtrace detecting
unfreed objects in both libdl.so and libpthread.so.  This change is
a pre-requisite to properly moving the malloc hooks out of malloc
since such a move now requires precise accounting of all allocated
data before destructors are run.

This commit adds a proper hook in libc.so.6 for both libdl.so and
for libpthread.so, this ensures that shm-directory.c which uses
freeit () to free memory is called properly.  We also remove the
nptl_freeres hook and fall back to using weak-ref-and-check idiom
for a loaded libpthread.so, thus making this process similar for
all DSOs.

Lastly we follow best practice and use explicit free calls for
both libdl.so and libpthread.so instead of the generic hook process
which has undefined order.

Tested on x86_64 with no regressions.

06ab719d30 Fix Linux fcntl OFD locks for non-LFS architectures (BZ#20251)
This patch fixes the OFD ("file private") locks for architectures that
support non-LFS flock definition (__USE_FILE_OFFSET64 not defined). The
issue in this case is both F_OFD_{GETLK,SETLK,SETLKW} and
F_{SET,GET}L{W}K64 expects a flock64 argument and when using old
F_OFD_* flags with a non LFS flock argument the kernel might interpret
the underlying data wrongly.  Kernel idea originally was to avoid using
such flags in non-LFS syscall, but since GLIBC uses fcntl with LFS
semantic as default it is possible to provide the functionality and
avoid the bogus struct kernel passing by adjusting the struct manually
for the required flags.

The idea follows other LFS interfaces that provide two symbols:

  1. A new LFS fcntl64 is added on default ABI with the usual macros to
     select it for FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64.

  2. The Linux non-LFS fcntl use a stack allocated struct flock64 for
     F_OFD_{GETLK,SETLK,SETLKW} copy the results on the user provided
     struct.

  3. Keep a compat symbol with old broken semantic for architectures
     that do not define __OFF_T_MATCHES_OFF64_T.

So for architectures which defines __USE_FILE_OFFSET64, fcntl64 will
aliased to fcntl and no adjustment would be required.  So to actually
use F_OFD_* with LFS support the source must be built with LFS support
(_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64).

Also F_OFD_SETLKW command is handled a cancellation point, as for
F_SETLKW{64}.

329ea513b4 Avoid cancellable I/O primitives in ld.so.
Neither the <dlfcn.h> entry points, nor lazy symbol resolution, nor
initial shared library load-up, are cancellation points, so ld.so
should exclusively use I/O primitives that are not cancellable.  We
currently achieve this by having the cancellation hooks compile as
no-ops when IS_IN(rtld); this patch changes to using exclusively
_nocancel primitives in the source code instead, which makes the
intent clearer and significantly reduces the amount of code compiled
under IS_IN(rtld) as well as IS_IN(libc) -- in particular,
elf/Makefile no longer thinks we require a copy of unwind.c in
rtld-libc.a.  (The older mechanism is preserved as a backstop.)

The bulk of the change is splitting up the files that define the
_nocancel I/O functions, so they don't also define the variants that
*are* cancellation points; after which, the existing logic for picking
out the bits of libc that need to be recompiled as part of ld.so Just
Works.  I did this for all of the _nocancel functions, not just the
ones used by ld.so, for consistency.

fcntl was a little tricky because it's only a cancellation point for
certain opcodes (F_SETLKW(64), which can block), and the existing
__fcntl_nocancel wasn't applying the FCNTL_ADJUST_CMD hook, which
strikes me as asking for trouble, especially as the only nontrivial
definition of FCNTL_ADJUST_CMD (for powerpc64) changes F_*LK* opcodes.
To fix this, fcntl_common moves to fcntl_nocancel.c along with
__fcntl_nocancel, and changes its name to the extern (but hidden)
symbol __fcntl_nocancel_adjusted, so that regular fcntl can continue
calling it.  __fcntl_nocancel now applies FCNTL_ADJUST_CMD; so that
both both fcntl.c and fcntl_nocancel.c can see it, the only nontrivial
definition moves from sysdeps/u/s/l/powerpc/powerpc64/fcntl.c to
.../powerpc64/sysdep.h and becomes entirely a macro, instead of a macro
that calls an inline function.

The nptl version of libpthread also changes a little, because its
"compat-routines" formerly included files that defined all the
_nocancel functions it uses; instead of continuing to duplicate them,
I exported the relevant ones from libc.so as GLIBC_PRIVATE.  Since the
Linux fcntl.c calls a function defined by fcntl_nocancel.c, it can no
longer be used from libpthread.so; instead, introduce a custom
forwarder, pt-fcntl.c, and export __libc_fcntl from libc.so as
GLIBC_PRIVATE.  The nios2-linux ABI doesn't include a copy of vfork()
in libpthread, and it was handling that by manipulating
libpthread-routines in .../linux/nios2/Makefile; it is cleaner to do
what other such ports do, and have a pt-vfork.S that defines no symbols.

Right now, it appears that Hurd does not implement _nocancel I/O, so
sysdeps/generic/not-cancel.h will forward everything back to the
regular functions.  This changed the names of some of the functions
that sysdeps/mach/hurd/dl-sysdep.c needs to interpose.

283d985122 posix: Fix posix_spawnp to not execute invalid binaries in non compat mode (BZ#23264)
Current posix_spawnp implementation wrongly tries to execute invalid
binaries (for instance script without shebang) as a shell script in
non compat mode.  It was a regression introduced by
9ff72da471 when __spawni started to use
__execvpe instead of __execve (glibc __execvpe try to execute ENOEXEC
as shell script regardless).

This patch fixes it by using an internal symbol (__execvpex) with the
faulty semantic (since compat mode is handled by spawni.c itself).

It was reported by Daniel Drake on libc-help [1].

Checked on x86_64-linux-gnu and i686-linux-gnu.

aaee3cd88e Move math_narrow_eval to separate math-narrow-eval.h.
This patch continues cleaning up the math_private.h header, which
contains lots of different definitions many of which are only needed
by a limited subset of files using that header (and some of which are
overridden by architectures that only want to override selected parts
of the header), by moving the math_narrow_eval macro out to a separate
math-narrow-eval.h header, only included by those files that need it.
That header is placed in include/ (since it's used in stdlib/, not
just files built in math/, but no sysdeps variants are needed at
present).

Tested for x86_64, and with build-many-glibcs.py.  (Installed stripped
shared libraries change because of line numbers in assertions in
strtod_l.c.)

c0123b3b11 Consolidate scandir{at}{64} implementation
This patch consolidates scandir{at}{64} implementation on just
the default dirent/scandir{at}{64}{_r}.c ones.  It changes the logic
to follow the conventions used on other code consolidation:

  * scandir{at} is only built for _DIRENT_MATCHES_DIRENT64 being 0.

  * scandir{at}{64} is always built and aliased to getdents for ABIs
    that define _DIRENT_MATCHES_DIRENT64 to 1.

Also on Linux the compat symbol for old non-LFS dirent64 definition
requires a platform-specific scandir64.c.

Checked on aarch64-linux-gnu, x86_64-linux-gnu, i686-linux-gnu,
sparcv9-linux-gnu, sparc64-linux-gnu, powerpc-linux-gnu, and
powerpc64le-linux-gnu.

1294b1892e Add support for sqrt asm redirects
This patch series cleans up the many uses of  __ieee754_sqrt(f/l) in GLIBC.
The goal is to enable GCC to do the inlining, and if this fails call the
__ieee754_sqrt function.  This is done by internally declaring sqrt with asm
redirects.  The compat symbols and sqrt wrappers need to disable the redirect.
The redirect is also disabled if there are already redirects defined when
using -ffinite-math-only.

All math functions (but not math tests, non-library code and libnldbl) are
built with -fno-math-errno which means GCC will typically inline sqrt as a
single instruction.  This means targets are no longer forced to add a special
inline for sqrt.

	* include/math.h (sqrt): Declare with asm redirect.
	(sqrtf): Likewise.
	(sqrtl): Likewise.
	(sqrtf128): Likewise.
	* Makeconfig: Add -fno-math-errno for libc/libm, but build testsuite,
	nonlib and libnldbl with -fmath-errno.
	* math/w_sqrt_compat.c: Define NO_MATH_REDIRECT.
	* math/w_sqrt_template.c: Likewise.
	* math/w_sqrtf_compat.c: Likewise.
	* math/w_sqrtl_compat.c: Likewise.
	* sysdeps/i386/fpu/w_sqrt.c: Likewise.
	* sysdeps/i386/fpu/w_sqrt_compat.c: Likewise.
	* sysdeps/generic/math-type-macros-float128.h: Remove math.h and
	complex.h.

6253bacdc0 Remove hidden __libc_longjmp
Since __libc_longjmp is a private interface for cancellation implementation
in libpthread, there is no need to provide hidden __libc_longjmp in libc.

Tested with build-many-glibcs.py.

5226a81f55 Define _DIRENT_MATCHES_DIRENT64 regardless
This patch defines _DIRENT_MATCHES_DIRENT64 to either 0 or 1 and adjust its
usage from checking its definition to its value.

Checked on a build for major Linux abis.

000f290ff1 Use libc_hidden_* for strtoumax (bug 15105).
On sparc, localplt test failures appear when building with -Os because
of a call to strtoumax from
sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/sparc/sparc64/get_clockfreq.c, and strtoumax
is not inlined when building with -Os.  This patch fixes those
failures by using libc_hidden_proto and libc_hidden_def for strtoumax.

Tested with build-many-glibcs.py for
sparc64-linux-gnu-disable-multi-arch, sparc64-linux-gnu,
sparcv9-linux-gnu-disable-multi-arch, sparcv9-linux-gnu that this
fixes that test failure with -Os.

I used __fpos_t and __fpos64_t instead of fpos_t and fpos64_t because
the definitions of fpos_t and fpos64_t depend on the largefile mode.
I used __ssize_t and __gnuc_va_list in a handful of headers where
namespace cleanliness might be relevant even though they're
internal-use-only.  In all other cases, I used the public-namespace
name.

There are a tiny handful of places where I left a use of 'struct _IO_FILE'
alone, because it was being used together with 'struct _IO_FILE_plus'
or 'struct _IO_FILE_complete' in the same arithmetic expression.

Because this patch was almost entirely done with search and replace, I
may have introduced indentation botches.  I did proofread the diff,
but I may have missed something.

The ChangeLog below calls out all of the places where this was not a
pure search-and-replace change.

Installed stripped libraries and executables are unchanged by this patch,
except that some assertions in vfscanf.c change line numbers.

039c721a30 Fix -Os putc_unlocked, fputc_unlocked linknamespace, localplt issues (bug 15105, bug 19463).
Continuing the fixes for linknamespace and localplt test failures with
-Os that arise from functions not being inlined in that case, this
patch fixes such failures for putc_unlocked and fputc_unlocked.

libc_hidden_* are used for both functions, while namespace issues are
addressed by making putc_unlocked a weak alias of hidden
__putc_unlocked, which is called in the one place where namespace
issues arise (and defined as an inline function in include/stdio.h).

Tested for x86_64 (both without -Os to make sure that case continues
to work, and with -Os to make sure all the relevant linknamespace and
localplt test failures are resolved).  This completes fixing the -Os
linknamespace failures (at least for x86_64); localplt failures remain
after this patch.

30ac923dbe Fix -Os getc_unlocked linknamespace, localplt issues (bug 15105, bug 19463).
Continuing the fixes for linknamespace and localplt test failures with
-Os that arise from functions not being inlined in that case, this
patch fixes such failures for getc_unlocked.

__getc_unlocked already exists; this patch makes it explicitly hidden,
calls it where needed for namespace reasons, adds an inline function
for it when inline functions are used and adds libc_hidden_proto /
libc_hidden_weak for getc_unlocked.

Tested for x86_64 (both without -Os to make sure that case continues
to work, and with -Os to make sure all the relevant linknamespace and
localplt test failures are resolved).  Because of other such failures
that remain after this patch, neither of the bugs can yet be closed.

862b45026f manual: Update _DEFAULT_SOURCE. [BZ #22862]
The description of the interplay between feature test macros and
compiler options in the description of _DEFAULT_SOURCE is a little
confusing, and dated, so clarify the situation, and don't assume a
specific value for _DEFAULT_SOURCE.

Also, _DEFAULT_SOURCE is supposed to be defined if none of the C/POSIX
feature test macros are defined, but the condition was lacking a test
for _ISOC11_SOURCE, so that is also addressed.
