Regenerate MIPS catan, catanh long double ulps.
This patch regenerates MIPS catan and catanh ulps for long double with fixed expected results for the tests of those functions. ulps for other types (which may see variation depending on whether glibc is built for a processor with fused multiply-add support) are deliberately not reduced. ulps are not regenerated for powerpc-nofpu as such regeneration does not result in any changes for long double. * sysdeps/mips/mips64/libm-test-ulps: Update catan and catanh ulps for long double with corrected test expectations. |

New pthread rwlock that is more scalable.
This replaces the pthread rwlock with a new implementation that uses a more scalable algorithm (primarily through not using a critical section anymore to make state changes). Make MIPS soft-fp preserve NaN payloads for NAN2008.
This corresponds to a patch applied to libgcc. In glibc it doesn't actually affect much (only fma, I think). The MIPS sfp-machine.h files have an _FP_CHOOSENAN implementation which emulates hardware semantics of not preserving signaling NaN payloads for an operation with two NaN arguments (although that doesn't suffice to avoid sNaN payload preservation in any case with just one NaN argument). However, those are only hardware semantics in the legacy NaN case; in the NAN2008 case, the architecture documentation says hardware preserves payloads in such cases. Furthermore, this implementation assumes legacy NaN semantics, so in the NAN2008 case the implementation actually has the effect of preserving sNaN payloads but not preserving qNaN payloads, when both should be preserved. This patch fixes the code just to copy from the first argument. Tested for mips64 soft-float. * sysdeps/mips/mips32/sfp-machine.h (_FP_CHOOSENAN): Always preserve NaN payload if [__mips_nan2008]. * sysdeps/mips/mips64/sfp-machine.h (_FP_CHOOSENAN): Likewise. |

Correct MIPS math-tests.h condition for sNaN payload preservation.
Testing for MIPS soft float shows that the issue with NaN payload preservation applies to soft float as well as hard float: the sfp-machine.h emulates hardware non-preservation semantics, although only for the case of two NaN arguments. This patch duly changes the MIPS math-tests.h to expect such non-preservation for soft float as well as hard float. The issue in the NAN2008 case for which I posted <https://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-patches/2017-01/msg00034.html>, of sNaN payloads being preserved but qNaN payloads not being preserved, is not currently an issue for glibc tests because we don't have any tests that check for qNaN payloads being preserved by arithmetic, so a simple __mips_nan2008 conditional suffices without needing compiler version checks in the __mips_nan2008 case. Tested for mips64 soft float. * sysdeps/mips/math-tests.h (SNAN_TESTS_PRESERVE_PAYLOAD): Do not condition on [__mips_hard_float]. |

New condvar implementation that provides stronger ordering guarantees.
This is a new implementation for condition variables, required after http://austingroupbugs.net/view.php?id=609 to fix bug 13165. In essence, we need to be stricter in which waiters a signal or broadcast is required to wake up; this couldn't be solved using the old algorithm. ISO C++ made a similar clarification, so this also fixes a bug in current libstdc++, for example. We can't use the old algorithm anymore because futexes do not guarantee to wake in FIFO order. Thus, when we wake, we can't simply let any waiter grab a signal, but we need to ensure that one of the waiters happening before the signal is woken up. This is something the previous algorithm violated (see bug 13165). There's another issue specific to condvars: ABA issues on the underlying futexes. Unlike mutexes that have just three states, or semaphores that have no tokens or a limited number of them, the state of a condvar is the *order* of the waiters. A waiter on a semaphore can grab a token whenever one is available; a condvar waiter must only consume a signal if it is eligible to do so as determined by the relative order of the waiter and the signal. Therefore, this new algorithm maintains two groups of waiters: Those eligible to consume signals (G1), and those that have to wait until previous waiters have consumed signals (G2). Once G1 is empty, G2 becomes the new G1. 64b counters are used to avoid ABA issues. This condvar doesn't yet use a requeue optimization (ie, on a broadcast, waking just one thread and requeueing all others on the futex of the mutex supplied by the program). I don't think doing the requeue is necessarily the right approach (but I haven't done real measurements yet): * If a program expects to wake many threads at the same time and make that scalable, a condvar isn't great anyway because of how it requires waiters to operate mutually exclusive (due to the mutex usage). Thus, a thundering herd problem is a scalability problem with or without the optimization. Using something like a semaphore might be more appropriate in such a case. * The scalability problem is actually at the mutex side; the condvar could help (and it tries to with the requeue optimization), but it should be the mutex who decides how that is done, and whether it is done at all. * Forcing all but one waiter into the kernel-side wait queue of the mutex prevents/avoids the use of lock elision on the mutex. Thus, it prevents the only cure against the underlying scalability problem inherent to condvars. * If condvars use short critical sections (ie, hold the mutex just to check a binary flag or such), which they should do ideally, then forcing all those waiter to proceed serially with kernel-based hand-off (ie, futex ops in the mutex' contended state, via the futex wait queues) will be less efficient than just letting a scalable mutex implementation take care of it. Our current mutex impl doesn't employ spinning at all, but if critical sections are short, spinning can be much better. * Doing the requeue stuff requires all waiters to always drive the mutex into the contended state. This leads to each waiter having to call futex_wake after lock release, even if this wouldn't be necessary. Refactor long double information into bits/long-double.h.
Information about whether the ABI of long double is the same as that of double is split between bits/mathdef.h and bits/wordsize.h. When the ABIs are the same, bits/mathdef.h defines __NO_LONG_DOUBLE_MATH. In addition, in the case where the same glibc binary supports both -mlong-double-64 and -mlong-double-128, bits/wordsize.h defines __LONG_DOUBLE_MATH_OPTIONAL, along with __NO_LONG_DOUBLE_MATH if this particular compilation is with -mlong-double-64. As part of the refactoring I proposed in <https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2016-11/msg00745.html>, this patch puts all that information in a single header, bits/long-double.h. It is included from sys/cdefs.h alongside the include of bits/wordsize.h, so other headers generally do not need to include bits/long-double.h directly. Previously, various bits/mathdef.h headers and bits/wordsize.h headers had this long double information (including implicitly in some bits/mathdef.h headers through not having the defines present in the default version). After the patch, it's all in six bits/long-double.h headers. Furthermore, most of those new headers are not architecture-specific. Architectures with optional long double all use the ldbl-opt sysdeps directory, either in the order (ldbl-64-128, ldbl-opt, ldbl-128) or (ldbl-128ibm, ldbl-opt). Thus a generic header for the case where long double = double, and headers in ldbl-128, ldbl-96 and ldbl-opt, suffices to cover every architecture except for cases where long double properties vary between different ABIs sharing a set of installed headers; fortunately all the ldbl-opt cases share a single compiler-predefined macro __LONG_DOUBLE_128__ that can be used to tell whether this compilation is -mlong-double-64 or -mlong-double-128. The two cases where a set of headers is shared between ABIs with different long double properties, MIPS (o32 has long double = double, other ABIs use ldbl-128) and SPARC (32-bit has optional long double, 64-bit has required long double), need their own bits/long-double.h headers. As with bits/wordsize.h, multiple-include protection for this header is generally implicit through the include guards on sys/cdefs.h, and multiple inclusion is harmless in any case. There is one subtlety: the header must not define __LONG_DOUBLE_MATH_OPTIONAL if __NO_LONG_DOUBLE_MATH was defined before its inclusion, because doing so breaks how sysdeps/ieee754/ldbl-opt/nldbl-compat.h defines __NO_LONG_DOUBLE_MATH itself before including system headers. Subject to keeping that working, it would be reasonable to move these macros from defined/undefined #ifdef to always-defined 1/0 #if semantics, but this patch does not attempt to do so, just rearranges where the macros are defined. After this patch, the only use of bits/mathdef.h is the alpha one for modifying complex function ABIs for old GCC. Thus, all versions of the header other than the default and alpha versions are removed, as is the include from math.h. Tested for x86_64 and x86. Refactor FP_ILOGB* out of bits/mathdef.h.
Continuing the refactoring of bits/mathdef.h, this patch stops it defining FP_ILOGB0 and FP_ILOGBNAN, moving the required information to a new header bits/fp-logb.h. There are only two possible values of each of those macros permitted by ISO C. TS 18661-1 adds corresponding macros for llogb, and their values are required to correspond to those of the ilogb macros in the obvious way. Thus two boolean values - for which the same choices are correct for most architectures - suffice to determine the value of all these macros, and by defining macros for those boolean values in bits/fp-logb.h we can then define the public FP_* macros in math.h and avoid the present duplication of the associated feature test macro logic. This patch duly moves to bits/fp-logb.h defining __FP_LOGB0_IS_MIN and __FP_LOGBNAN_IS_MIN. Default definitions of those to 0 are correct for both architectures, while ia64, m68k and x86 get their own versions of bits/fp-logb.h to reflect their use of values different from the defaults. The patch renders many copies of bits/mathdef.h trivial (needed only to avoid the default __NO_LONG_DOUBLE_MATH). I'll revise <https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2016-11/msg00865.html> accordingly so that it removes all bits/mathdef.h headers except the default one and the alpha one, and arranges for the header to be included only by complex.h as the only remaining use at that point will be for the alpha ABI issues there. Remove cached PID/TID in clone
This patch remove the PID cache and usage in current GLIBC code. Current usage is mainly used a performance optimization to avoid the syscall, however it adds some issues: - The exposed clone syscall will try to set pid/tid to make the new thread somewhat compatible with current GLIBC assumptions. This cause a set of issue with new workloads and usecases (such as BZ#17214 and [1]) as well for new internal usage of clone to optimize other algorithms (such as clone plus CLONE_VM for posix_spawn, BZ#19957). - The caching complexity also added some bugs in the past [2] [3] and requires more effort of each port to handle such requirements (for both clone and vfork implementation). - Caching performance gain in mainly on getpid and some specific code paths. The getpid performance leverage is questionable [4], either by the idea of getpid being a hotspot as for the getpid implementation itself (if it is indeed a justifiable hotspot a vDSO symbol could let to a much more simpler solution). Other usage is mainly for non usual code paths, such as pthread cancellation signal and handling. For thread creation (on stack allocation) the code simplification in fact adds some performance gain due the no need of transverse the stack cache and invalidate each element pid. Other thread usages will require a direct getpid syscall, such as cancellation/setxid signal, thread cancellation, thread fail path (at create_thread), and thread signal (pthread_kill and pthread_sigqueue). However these are hardly usual hotspots and I think adding a syscall is justifiable. It also simplifies both the clone and vfork arch-specific implementation. And by review each fork implementation there are some discrepancies that this patch also solves: - microblaze clone/vfork does not set/reset the pid/tid field - hppa uses the default vfork implementation that fallback to fork. Since vfork is deprecated I do not think we should bother with it. The patch also removes the TID caching in clone. My understanding for such semantic is try provide some pthread usage after a user program issue clone directly (as done by thread creation with CLONE_PARENT_SETTID and pthread tid member). However, as stated before in multiple discussions threads, GLIBC provides clone syscalls without further supporting all this semantics. I ran a full make check on x86_64, x32, i686, armhf, aarch64, and powerpc64le. For sparc32, sparc64, and mips I ran the basic fork and vfork tests from posix/ folder (on a qemu system). So it would require further testing on alpha, hppa, ia64, m68k, nios2, s390, sh, and tile (I excluded microblaze because it is already implementing the patch semantic regarding clone/vfork). Refactor float_t, double_t information into bits/flt-eval-method.h.
At present, definitions of float_t and double_t are split among many bits/mathdef.h headers. For all but three architectures, these types are float and double. Furthermore, if you assume __FLT_EVAL_METHOD__ to be defined, that provides a more generic way of determining the correct values of these typedefs. Defining these typedefs more generally based on __FLT_EVAL_METHOD__ was previously proposed by Paul Eggert in <https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2012-02/msg00002.html>. This patch refactors things in the way I proposed in <https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2016-11/msg00745.html>. A new header bits/flt-eval-method.h defines a single macro, __GLIBC_FLT_EVAL_METHOD, which is then used by math.h to define float_t and double_t. The default is based on __FLT_EVAL_METHOD__ (although actually a default to 0 would have the same effect for current ports, because ports where values other than 0 or 16 are possible all have their own headers). To avoid changing the existing semantics in any case, including for compilers not defining __FLT_EVAL_METHOD__, architecture-specific files are then added for m68k, s390, x86 which replicate the existing semantics. At least with __FLT_EVAL_METHOD__ values possible with GCC, there should be no change to the choices of float_t and double_t for any supported configuration. Architecture maintainer notes: * m68k: sysdeps/m68k/m680x0/bits/flt-eval-method.h always defines __GLIBC_FLT_EVAL_METHOD to 2 to replicate the existing logic. But actually GCC defines __FLT_EVAL_METHOD__ to 0 if TARGET_68040. It might make sense to make the header prefer to base things on __FLT_EVAL_METHOD__ if defined, like the x86 version, and so make the choices of these types more accurate (with a NEWS entry as for the other changes to these types on particular architectures). * s390: sysdeps/s390/bits/flt-eval-method.h always defines __GLIBC_FLT_EVAL_METHOD to 1 to replicate the existing logic. As previously discussed, it might make sense in coordination with GCC to eliminate the historic mistake, avoid excess precision in the -fexcess-precision=standard case and make the typedefs match (with a NEWS entry, again). Tested for x86-64 and x86. Also did compilation-only testing with build-many-glibcs.py. * bits/flt-eval-method.h: New file. * sysdeps/m68k/m680x0/bits/flt-eval-method.h: Likewise. * sysdeps/s390/bits/flt-eval-method.h: Likewise. * sysdeps/x86/bits/flt-eval-method.h: Likewise. * math/Makefile (headers): Add bits/flt-eval-method.h. * math/math.h: Include <bits/flt-eval-method.h>. MIPS: Add `.insn' to ensure a text label is defined as code not data
Avoid a build error with microMIPS compilation and recent versions of GAS which complain if a branch targets a label which is marked as data rather than microMIPS code: ../sysdeps/mips/mips32/crti.S: Assembler messages: ../sysdeps/mips/mips32/crti.S:72: Error: branch to a symbol in another ISA mode make[2]: *** [.../csu/crti.o] Error 1 as commit 9d862524f6ae ("MIPS: Verify the ISA mode and alignment of branch and jump targets") closed a hole in branch processing, making relocation calculation respect the ISA mode of the symbol referred. This allowed diagnosing the situation where an attempt is made to pass control from code assembled for one ISA mode to code assembled for a different ISA mode and either relaxing the branch to a cross-mode jump or if that is not possible, then reporting this as an error rather than letting such code build and then fail unpredictably at the run time. This however requires the correct annotation of branch targets as code, because the ISA mode is not relevant for data symbols and is therefore not recorded for them. The `.insn' pseudo-op is used for this purpose and has been supported by GAS since: Wed Feb 12 14:36:29 1997 Ian Lance Taylor <ian@cygnus.com> * config/tc-mips.c (mips_pseudo_table): Add "insn". (s_insn): New static function. * doc/c-mips.texi: Document .insn. so there has been no reason to avoid it where required. More recently this pseudo-op has been documented, by the microMIPS architecture specification[1][2], as required for the correct interpretation of any code label which is not followed by an actual instruction in an assembly source. Use it in our crti.S files then, to mark that the trailing label there with no instructions following is indeed not a code bug and the branch is legitimate. Do not hardcode platform names in manual/libm-err-tab.pl (bug 14139).
manual/libm-err-tab.pl hardcodes a list of names for particular platforms (mapping from sysdeps directory name to friendly name for the manual). This goes against the principle of keeping information about individual platforms in their corresponding sysdeps directory, and the list is also very out-of-date regarding supported platforms and their corresponding sysdeps directories. This patch fixes this by adding a libm-test-ulps-name file alongside each libm-test-ulps file. The script then gets the friendly name from that file, which is required to exist, so it no longer needs to allow for the mapping being missing. Tested for x86_64. Add canonicalize, canonicalizef, canonicalizel.
TS 18661-1 defines canonicalize functions to produce a canonical version of a floating-point representation. This patch implements these functions for glibc. As with the iscanonical macro, these functions are oriented to the decimal floating-point case, where some values have both canonical and noncanonical representations. However, the functions have a return value that says whether they succeeded in storing a canonical result; thus, they can fail for the case of an invalid representation (while still not making any particular choice from among multiple equally canonical valid representations of the same value). Since no floating-point formats in glibc actually have noncanonical valid representations, a type-generic implementation of these functions can be used that expects iscanonical to return 0 only for invalid representations. Now that iscanonical is used within libm.so, libm_hidden_proto / libm_hidden_def are added for __iscanonicall. The definition of these functions is intended to correspond to a convertFormat operation to the same floating-point format. Thus, they convert signaling NaNs to quiet NaNs, raising the "invalid" exception. Such a conversion "should" produce "the canonical version of that signaling NaN made quiet". libm-test.inc is made to check NaN payloads for the output of these functions, a new feature (at some point manipulation functions such as fabs and copysign should have tests added that verify payload preservation for them). As however some architectures may not follow the recommended practice of preserving NaN payloads when converting a signaling NaN to quiet, a new math-tests.h macro SNAN_TESTS_PRESERVE_PAYLOAD is added, and defined to 0 for non-NAN2008 MIPS; any other architectures seeing test failures for lack of payload preservation in this case should also define this macro to 0. (If any cases arise where the sign isn't preserved either, those should have a similar macro added.) The ldbl-96 and ldbl-128ibm tests of iscanonical are renamed and adapted to test canonicalizel as well on the same representations. Tested for x86_64, x86, mips64 and powerpc. * math/bits/mathcalls.h [__GLIBC_USE (IEC_60559_BFP_EXT)] (canonicalize): New declaration. * math/Versions (canonicalize): New libm symbol at version GLIBC_2.25. Define HIGH_ORDER_BIT_IS_SET_FOR_SNAN to 0 or 1.
This patch moves the HIGH_ORDER_BIT_IS_SET_FOR_SNAN macro from being defined or undefined to the preferred convention of always being defined, to either 0 or 1, so allowing typo-proof tests with #if. The macro is moved from math_private.h to a new header nan-high-order-bit.h to make it easy for all architectures to define, either through the sysdeps/generic version of the header or through providing their own version of the header, without needing #ifndef in the generic math_private.h to give a default definition. The move also allows the macro to be used without needing math_private.h to be included; the immediate motivation of this patch is to allow tests to access this information (to know what kinds of NaNs 0 is a valid payload for) without needing to include math_private.h. Existing C level rather than preprocessor conditionals at all, but this patch does not make such a change). Installed header hygiene (BZ#20366): Test of installed headers.
This adds a test to ensure that the problems fixed in the last several patches do not recur. Each directory checks the headers that it installs for two properties: first, each header must be compilable in isolation, as both C and C++, under a representative combination of language and library conformance levels; second, there is a blacklist of identifiers that may not appear in any installed header, currently consisting of the legacy BSD typedefs. (There is an exemption for the headers that define those typedefs, and for the RPC headers. It may be necessary to make this more sophisticated if we add more stuff to the blacklist in the future.) In order for this test to work correctly, every wrapper header that actually defines something must guard those definitions with #ifndef _ISOMAC. This is the existing mechanism used by the conform/ tests to tell wrapper headers not to define anything that the public header wouldn't, and not to use anything from libc-symbols.h. conform/ only cares for headers that we need to check for standards conformance, whereas this test applies to *every* header. (Headers in include/ that are either installed directly, or are internal-use-only and do *not* correspond to any installed header, are not affected.) * scripts/check-installed-headers.sh: New script. * Rules: In each directory that defines header files to be installed, run check-installed-headers.sh on them as a special test. * Makefile: Likewise for the headers installed at top level. * include/aliases.h, include/alloca.h, include/argz.h * include/arpa/nameser.h, include/arpa/nameser_compat.h * include/elf.h, include/envz.h, include/err.h * include/execinfo.h, include/fpu_control.h, include/getopt.h * include/gshadow.h, include/ifaddrs.h, include/libintl.h * include/link.h, include/malloc.h, include/mcheck.h * include/mntent.h, include/netinet/ether.h * include/nss.h, include/obstack.h, include/printf.h * include/pty.h, include/resolv.h, include/rpc/auth.h * include/rpc/auth_des.h, include/rpc/auth_unix.h * include/rpc/clnt.h, include/rpc/des_crypt.h * include/rpc/key_prot.h, include/rpc/netdb.h * include/rpc/pmap_clnt.h, include/rpc/pmap_prot.h * include/rpc/pmap_rmt.h, include/rpc/rpc.h * include/rpc/rpc_msg.h, include/rpc/svc.h * include/rpc/svc_auth.h, include/rpc/xdr.h * include/rpcsvc/nis_callback.h, include/rpcsvc/nislib.h * include/rpcsvc/yp.h, include/rpcsvc/ypclnt.h * include/rpcsvc/ypupd.h, include/shadow.h * include/stdio_ext.h, include/sys/epoll.h * include/sys/file.h, include/sys/gmon.h, include/sys/ioctl.h * include/sys/prctl.h, include/sys/profil.h * include/sys/statfs.h, include/sys/sysctl.h * include/sys/sysinfo.h, include/ttyent.h, include/utmp.h * sysdeps/arm/nacl/include/bits/setjmp.h * sysdeps/mips/include/sys/asm.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/include/sys/sysinfo.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/include/sys/timex.h * sysdeps/x86/fpu/include/bits/fenv.h: Add #ifndef _ISOMAC guard around internal declarations. Installed-header hygiene (BZ#20366): stack_t.
sys/ucontext.h unconditionally uses stack_t, and it does not make sense to change that. But signal.h only declares stack_t under __USE_XOPEN_EXTENDED || __USE_XOPEN2K8. The actual definition is already in a bits header, bits/sigstack.h, but that header insists on only being included by signal.h, so we have to change that as well as all of the sys/ucontext.h variants. (Some but not all variants of bits/sigcontext.h, which sys/ucontext.h may also need, had already received this adjustment; for consistency, I made them all the same, even if that's not strictly necessary in some configurations.) bits/sigcontext.h and bits/sigstack.h also all need to receive multiple inclusion guards. * sysdeps/generic/sys/ucontext.h * sysdeps/arm/sys/ucontext.h * sysdeps/i386/sys/ucontext.h * sysdeps/m68k/sys/ucontext.h * sysdeps/mips/sys/ucontext.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/aarch64/sys/ucontext.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/alpha/sys/ucontext.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/arm/sys/ucontext.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/hppa/sys/ucontext.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/ia64/sys/ucontext.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/m68k/sys/ucontext.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/mips/sys/ucontext.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/nios2/sys/ucontext.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/powerpc/sys/ucontext.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/s390/sys/ucontext.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/sh/sys/ucontext.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/sparc/sys/ucontext.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/tile/sys/ucontext.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/x86/sys/ucontext.h: Include both bits/sigcontext.h and bits/sigstack.h. Add femode_t functions.
TS 18661-1 defines a type femode_t to represent the set of dynamic floating-point control modes (such as the rounding mode and trap enablement modes), and functions fegetmode and fesetmode to manipulate those modes (without affecting other state such as the raised exception flags) and a corresponding macro FE_DFL_MODE. This patch series implements those interfaces for glibc. This first patch adds the architecture-independent pieces, the x86 and x86_64 implementations, and the <bits/fenv.h> and ABI baseline updates for all architectures so glibc keeps building and passing the ABI tests on all architectures. Subsequent patches add the fegetmode and fesetmode implementations for other architectures. femode_t is generally an integer type - the same type as fenv_t, or as the single element of fenv_t where fenv_t is a structure containing a single integer (or the single relevant element, where it has elements for both status and control registers) - except where architecture properties or consistency with the fenv_t implementation indicate otherwise. FE_DFL_MODE follows FE_DFL_ENV in whether it's a magic pointer value (-1 cast to const femode_t *), a value that can be distinguished from valid pointers by its high bits but otherwise contains a representation of the desired register contents, or a pointer to a constant variable (the powerpc case; __fe_dfl_mode is added as an exported constant object, an alias to __fe_dfl_env). Note that where architectures (that share a register between control and status bits) gain definitions of new floating-point control or status bits in future, the implementations of fesetmode for those architectures may need updating (depending on whether the new bits are control or status bits and what the implementation does with previously unknown bits), just like existing implementations of <fenv.h> functions that take care not to touch reserved bits may need updating when the set of reserved bits changes. (As any new bits are outside the scope of ISO C, that's just a quality-of-implementation issue for supporting them, not a conformance issue.) As with fenv_t, femode_t should properly include any software DFP rounding mode (and for both fenv_t and femode_t I'd consider that fragment of DFP support appropriate for inclusion in glibc even in the absence of the rest of libdfp; hardware DFP rounding modes should already be included if the definitions of which bits are status / control bits are correct). Tested for x86_64, x86, mips64 (hard float, and soft float to test the fallback version), arm (hard float) and powerpc (hard float, soft float and e500). Fix MIPS64 memcpy regression.
The MIPS memcpy optimizations at <https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2015-10/msg00597.html> introduced a bug causing many string function tests to fail with segfaults for n32 and n64: FAIL: string/stratcliff FAIL: string/test-bcopy FAIL: string/test-memccpy FAIL: string/test-memcmp FAIL: string/test-memcpy FAIL: string/test-memmove FAIL: string/test-mempcpy FAIL: string/test-stpncpy FAIL: string/test-strncmp FAIL: string/test-strncpy (Some failures in other directories could also be caused by this bug.) The problem is that after the check for whether a word of input is left that can be copied as a word before moving to byte copies, a load can occur in the branch delay slot, resulting in a segfault if we are at the end of a page and the following page is unmapped. I don't see how this would have passed the tests as reported in the original patch posting (different kernel configurations affecting the code setting up unmapped pages, maybe?), since the tests in question don't appear to have changed recently. This patch moves a later instruction into the delay slot, as suggested at <https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2016-01/msg00584.html>. Fix ulps regeneration for *-finite tests.
On running tests after from-scratch ulps regeneration, I found that some libm tests failed with ulps in excess of those recorded in the from-scratch regeneration, which should never happen unless those ulps exceed the limit on ulps that can go in libm-test-ulps files. Failure: Test: atan2_upward (inf, -inf) Result: is: 2.35619498e+00 0x1.2d97ccp+1 should be: 2.35619450e+00 0x1.2d97c8p+1 difference: 4.76837159e-07 0x1.000000p-21 ulp : 2.0000 max.ulp : 1.0000 Maximal error of `atan2_upward' is : 2 ulp accepted: 1 ulp Failure: Test: carg_upward (-inf + inf i) Result: is: 2.35619498e+00 0x1.2d97ccp+1 should be: 2.35619450e+00 0x1.2d97c8p+1 difference: 4.76837159e-07 0x1.000000p-21 ulp : 2.0000 max.ulp : 1.0000 Maximal error of `carg_upward' is : 2 ulp accepted: 1 ulp The problem comes from the addition of tests for the finite-math-only versions of libm functions. Those tests share ulps with the default function variants. make regen-ulps runs the default tests before the finite-math-only tests, concatenating the resulting ulps before feeding them to gen-libm-test.pl to generate a new libm-test-ulps file. But gen-libm-test.pl always takes the last ulps value given for any (function, type) pair. So, if the largest ulps for a function come from non-finite inputs, a from-scratch regeneration loses those ulps. This patch fixes gen-libm-test.pl, in the case where there are multiple ulps values for a (function, type) pair - which can only happen as part of a regeneration - to take the largest ulps value rather than the last one. S/390: Do not raise inexact exception in lrint/lround. [BZ #19486]
I get some math test-failures on s390 for float/double/ldouble for various lrint/lround functions like: lrint (0x1p64): Exception "Inexact" set lrint (-0x1p64): Exception "Inexact" set lround (0x1p64): Exception "Inexact" set lround (-0x1p64): Exception "Inexact" set ... GCC emits "convert to fixed" instructions for casting floating point values to integer values. These instructions raise invalid and inexact exceptions if the floating point value exceeds the integer type ranges. mips: fix testsuite build for O32 FPXX ABI on pre-R2 CPU
On MIPS when the toolchain is using the O32 FPXX ABI, the testsuite fails to build for pre-R2 CPU. It assumes that it is possible to use the -mfp64 option to build tst-abi-fp64amod and tst-abi-fp64mod, while this requires a CPU which supports the mfhc1 and mthc1 instructions, ie at least a R2 CPU: error: '-mgp32' and '-mfp64' can only be combined if the target supports the mfhc1 and mthc1 instructions The same way it assumes that it is possible to use the -modd-spreg option to build tst-abi-fpxxomod and tst-abi-fp64mod, while this requires at least a R1 CPU: warning: the 'mips2' architecture does not support odd single-precision registers This patches changes that by checking the usability of -mfp64 and -modd-spreg options in configure, and disable those tests when they can not be used. |

math: add LDBL_CLASSIFY_COMPAT support
If a platform does not define "long-double-fcts = yes" in its Makefiles and it does define __NO_LONG_DOUBLE_MATH in its installed headers, it will currently create exported symbols for __finitel, __isinfl, and __isnanl that can't be reached from userspace by correct use of the finite(), isinf(), or isnan() macros in <math.h>. To avoid this situation, by default for such platforms we now no longer export these symbols, thus causing appropriate link-time errors. However, for platforms that previously exported these symbols, we continue to do so as compat symbols; this is enabled by adding LDBL_CLASSIFY_COMPAT to math_private.h for the platform. For tile, remove the now-unnecessary exports of those functions from libc and libm. |

MIPS: Wire FCSR.ABS2008 to FCSR.NAN2008
Revision 3.50 of the MIPS architecture defined FCSR ABS2008 and NAN2008 bits as optionally read/write [1][2]. No hardware implementation has ever made use of this feature though. For example the first processor to implement these bits, the MIPS32r3 proAptiv core, has both bits read-only, hardwired to 1 [3]. And as from revision 5.03 of the MIPS architecture the bits are required to be read-only, preset by hardware [4][5]. Additionally all hardware implementations in existence have the bits hardwired both to the same value, either of `0' and `1'. These bits may still be read/write or hardwired to opposite values in simulated hardware implementations such as QEMU or the FPU emulator included with the Linux kernel. However to match real hardware implementations the Linux kernel will set FCSR ABS2008 and NAN2008 bits both to the same value where possible, reflecting the setting of the EF_MIPS_NAN2008 ELF file header bit. Therefore update the bit patterns in macro definitions we use for the control word, in the 2008-NaN encoding mode, so that both bits have the same value in a given bit pattern. Additionally mark the FCSR ABS2008 bit as reserved, so that high-level calls to change the control word do not affect the bit. This covers the regular FPU configurations, only leaving exotic corner cases with the value of FCSR control word initially set by the kernel different to what our code thinks it is. To address the remaining cases the AT_FPUCW auxiliary vector entry would have to be implemented in the Linux kernel, which currently is not. Fix math_private.h multiple include guards.
Various math_private.h headers are guarded by "#ifndef _MATH_PRIVATE_H", but never define the macro. Nothing else defines the macro either (the generic math_private.h that they include defines a different macro, _MATH_PRIVATE_H_), so those guards are ineffective. With the recent inclusion of s_sin.c in s_sincos.c, this breaks the build for MIPS, since the build of s_sincos.c ends up including <math_private.h> twice and the MIPS version defines inline functions such as libc_feholdexcept_mips, without a separate fenv_private.h header with its own guards such as some architectures have. This patch fixes all the problem headers to use architecture-specific guard macro names, and to define those macros in the headers they guard, just as some architectures already do. Tested for x86 (testsuite, and that installed shared libraries are unchanged by the patch), and for mips64 (that it fixes the build). * sysdeps/arm/math_private.h [!_MATH_PRIVATE_H]: Change guard to [!ARM_MATH_PRIVATE_H]. Convert 231 sysdeps function definitions to prototype style.
This mostly automatically-generated patch converts 231 sysdeps function definitions in glibc from old-style K&R to prototype-style. For __aio_sigqueue and __gai_sigqueue I had to add internal_function to the definitions as noted by Florian in <https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2015-10/msg00595.html> to keep the functions compiling on x86 after conversion to prototype definitions. Otherwise, the patch is automatically generated with all the same exclusions and caveats as in <https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2015-10/msg00594.html> except that it's a patch for sysdeps files. Tested for x86_64 and x86 (testsuite, and that installed stripped shared libraries are unchanged by the patch). Fix lrint, llrint, lround, llround missing exceptions for MIPS (bug 16399).
For 32-bit MIPS and some other systems, various of the lrint, llrint, lround, llround functions can be missing exceptions on overflow because casts do not (in current GCC) result in the proper exceptions. In the MIPS case there are two problems here: MIPS I code generation uses an assembler macro that doesn't raise exceptions, while the libgcc conversions of floating-point values to long long also do not raise "invalid" on all overflow cases (and can raise spurious "inexact"). This patch adds support in the generic code (only the functions for which this problem has actually been seen) for forcing the "invalid" exception in the problem cases, and enables that support for the affected MIPS cases. Use dbl-64/wordsize-64 for MIPS64.
This patch enables use of sysdeps/ieee754/dbl-64/wordsize-64 for MIPS64 (both n64 and n32), removing a #error in one case now that case has been tested and found to work. Tested for mips64 (n64 and n32). * sysdeps/mips/mips64/Implies: Use ieee754/dbl-64/wordsize-64. * sysdeps/ieee754/dbl-64/wordsize-64/s_issignaling.c (__issignaling) [HIGH_ORDER_BIT_IS_SET_FOR_SNAN]: Remove #error. |

Add more random libm test inputs (mainly for ldbl-128).
This patch adds more libm test inputs found through random test generation to increase previously known ulps. This particular test generation was run for mips64, so most of the increased ulps are for ldbl-128 (float and double having been fairly well covered by such testing for x86_64), but there's the odd ulps increase for other formats. Tested for x86_64, x86 and mips64. * math/auto-libm-test-in: Add more tests of acos, acosh, asin, asinh, atan, atan2, atanh, cabs, carg, cos, csqrt, erfc, exp, exp10, exp2, log, log1p, log2, pow, sin, sincos, sinh, tan and tanh. * math/auto-libm-test-out: Regenerated. * sysdeps/i386/fpu/libm-test-ulps: Update. * sysdeps/mips/mips32/libm-test-ulps: Likewise. * sysdeps/mips/mips64/libm-test-ulps: Likewise. * sysdeps/x86_64/fpu/libm-test-ulps: Likewise. |

Move bits/atomic.h to atomic-machine.h (bug 14912).
It was noted in <https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2012-09/msg00305.html> that the bits/*.h naming scheme should only be used for installed headers. This patch renames bits/atomic.h to atomic-machine.h to follow that convention. This is the only change in this series that needs to change the filename rather than simply removing a directory level (because both atomic.h and bits/atomic.h exist at present). Tested for x86_64 (testsuite, and that installed stripped shared libraries are unchanged by the patch). MIPS: Only use .set mips* assembler directives when necessary
There are a few .set mips* assembler directives used in the MIPS specific sysdep code that force an instruction to be assembled for a specific ISA. The reason for these is to allow an instruction to be encoded when it might not be supported in the current ISA (when the code is run the Linux kernel will trap and emulate any unsupported instructions). Unfortunately forcing a specific ISA means that when assembling for a newer ISA, where the instruction has a different encoding, the wrong encoding will be used. * sysdeps/mips/bits/atomic.h [_MIPS_SIM == _ABIO32] (MIPS_PUSH_MIPS2): Only use .set mips2 if the current ISA is below mips2. * sysdeps/mips/sys/tas.h [_MIPS_SIM == _ABIO32] (_test_and_set): Likewise. * sysdeps/mips/nptl/tls.h (READ_THREAD_POINTER): Only use .set mips32r2 if the current ISA is below mips32r2. * sysdeps/mips/tls-macros.h (TLS_RDHWR): New define. (TLS_IE): Updated to use the TLD_RDHWR macro. (TLS_LE): Likewise. * sysdeps/unix/mips/sysdep.h (__mips_isa_rev): Moved out of #ifdef __ASSEMBLER__ condition. |
