85aa0fd041 Introduce QIcon::fallbackSearchPaths()
... that will be used if an icon can't be found in the
current theme.

The Icon Theme Specification
https://standards.freedesktop.org/icon-theme-spec/latest/ar01s05.html
states that unthemed icons must be searched in the base directories,
i.e. /usr/share/icons, ... But in practice unthemed icons are
installed into /usr/share/pixmaps and this dir is not used as
a base dir for icon themes. So it's better to explicitly specify
fallback dirs to avoid needless access to the filesystem.

Also some KDE application install their own unthemed icons
(into /usr/share/<appname>/pics), that can't be found by
QIconLoader. With this change it would be possible for them
to specify dirs with unthemed icons and thus be displayed
correctly in non-KDE environments.

[ChangeLog][QtGui][QIcon] Added fallbackSearchPaths() that
will be used to find icons missing in the current icon theme.

abbd26f553 Add QModelIndex::siblingAtColumn and ::siblingAtRow
Data in item models is most often organized in rows, where each column
contains an attribute of the item represented by the row. Often when
sibling is used, it is to request another piece of data from the same
row. Having a specialized version makes this easier and less awkward
to do, simplifying

auto sibling = index.sibling(index.row(), columnOfInterest);

to

auto sibling = index.siblingAtColumn(columnOfInterest);

For symmetry reasons, siblingAtRow(rowOfInterest) was also added.

b14934547a Use TESTDATA for QSsl* tests
Apparently this (undocumented) TESTDATA feature creates resource files,
but lets you use wildcards as well, which is very handy.

The reason I didn't know/realize this when adapting the tests to use a
".qrc"-file* was because some of the test-cases were using relative
paths instead of the 'testDataDir' variable.

This commit fixes the remaining uses of relative paths, removes a
usage of QDir::setCurrent, and adapts QSslSocket to use TESTDATA.

f4436276d9 Skip a date-time test when we don't know what result it should give
The operator_eqeq(data13) test expected the local-time epoch and UTC
epoch to agree precisely if the localTimeType set by the test's
constructor says local time is UTC; however, when the local zone is
*sometimes* ahead of (or behind) UTC, due to DST, localTimeType is
duly set to indicate that, which doesn't preclude the zone agreeing
with UTC at the epoch. This indeed happens for Europe/London, which
agrees on the epoch but was ahead a few months later. So we can't
determine what outcome to expect based solely on localTimeType,
although we can be sure of a match when local time is UTC. So skip
this test when local time isn't UTC (and document what's going on a
bit better).

6ca48a847a Fix fallback fonts for non-common writing system
When we request fallback fonts, we cannot discriminate the fonts
based on the writing system support. This is especially important
since common script is now merged with other scripts, meaning that
a common script character will always go through the fallback
mechanism when not supported by the main font. When drawing
for instance a string of Devanagari characters on macOS, we would
get a list of 33 fallback fonts, but almost all of them would be
the default Devanagari font, since none of the other fallbacks
would support that script. Meaning that we would just check the
same font over and over, which makes no sense. The fallback list
has been retrieved specifically for the given script, so we do
not need to consider that when fetching the fonts.

For most of the common set, we will not have noticed the bug,
because at least one of the writing system-specific fallbacks will
have had support for latin characters as well. But when trying to
mix emojis and some non-common script, we would get a box in
place of the emoji, which had been adopted to the main script and
would only be looked for in the fonts supporting this.

Note that this exposed an issue with the QRawFont test on some
systems. When the sample text contained a space, it would
be possible to get a fallback font for this character, since
we now effectively support fallbacks. This is not the correct
behavior, but it is unrelated to this fix, and it was not what
the QRawFont::unsupportedWritingSystem() test was written to
check. I have therefore removed the space from the sample text
to make the test pass, and will make a separate task of fixing
the issue of merging fonts for whitespace characters.

[ChangeLog][QtGui][Text] Fixed a bug where mixing different
writing systems with emojis could lead to missing glyphs.

69496d4e22 Introduce QAbstractItemModel::checkIndex()
When implementing a custom model there's the habit, in each and every
function that takes a QModelIndex, to carefully checking the index
passed by the caller. This index is checked for "legality" (*): does the
index belong to this model, is the index pointing to an existing row and
column, and so on. These checks are hand-rolled and, as such, slightly
different and possibly incomplete (i.e. wrong) every time.

What's worse, these checks are implemented via "ordinary" code (if
statements). However, passing an illegal index to a QAIM function is a
precondition violation, and as such does not (and must not) be
checked in ordinary conditions, as it triggers undefined behavior. On
the other hand, while debugging a custom model or a custom hierarchy
of (proxy) models, having such checks in place can be a significant
aid.

Enter checkIndex(): a debugging helper for QAbstractItemModel and its
subclasses. checkIndex() centralizes the checks for legality of a
given index. User code is free to assert on it, or have some other
fallback mechanism in case a check fails.

(*) Using "legality" here instead of "validity" in order to avoid
confusion between QModelIndex::isValid() and what checkIndex() really
does.

[ChangeLog][QtCore][QAbstractItemModel] Added
QAbstractItemModel::checkIndex(), a debugging function for
QAbstractItemModel subclasses.

2b2b9c9962 Update QString::isRightToLeft() to take directional hints into account
Make sure we properly handle both directional embeddings as well as
directional isolates to determine the direction of the string.

According to the latest version of the Unicode bidi algorithm,
parts of the string contained inside an directional isolate is
to be ignored when determining the paragraph direction. Embedding
markers themselves are to be ignored as well, but not the characters
inside an explicit directional embedding or override.

This is also some required pre-work to get our BiDi algorithm
updated to the latest version of the standard.

Move the implementation to QStringView and implement the methods
in QString and QStringRef through that implementation.

739611221c Add QHeaderView::setFirstSectionMovable(), useful for flat treeviews
QTreeView makes columns movable except for the first one
(since Qt 5.0, see commit e0fc088c0c). This is indeed best
for actual trees, but not when using QTreeView as a flat
multi-column list (with no "root decoration"). Then it should
be possible to move the first column.

[ChangeLog][QtWidgets][QHeaderView] Flat treeviews can now allow
the user to move the first column (like in Qt 4.x) using the new
method QHeaderView::setFirstSectionMovable().

89b0364cde QRingBuffer: avoid reallocations of the data
Since its initial implementation, QRingBuffer had the following
fragilities in the architecture:

  - it does not guarantee validity of the pointers, if new data will
    be appended. As an example, passing an address of the QRingBuffer
    chunk as a parameter to the WriteFileEx() function on Windows
    requires the stability of the pointer. So, we can't add new data
    to the QRingBuffer until the overlapped operation completed
    (related issues were fixed for QWindowsPipeWriter and QSerialPort
    in 5.6 branch by introducing an intermediate byte array);
  - inefficient reallocations in reserve(), if a shared chunk was
    inserted in the queue (we can get a reallocation in the place
    where we don't expect it:

      char *writePtr = buffers.last().data() + tail;  <-  line #133

    ).

Proposed solution is to avoid reallocation by allocating a new
block instead. That was accomplished by introducing a QRingChunk
class which operates on a fixed byte array and implements head/tail
pointers strategy for each individual buffer in the queue. So,
QRingBuffer is no longer dependent on QByteArray's internal
shrink/growth algorithms.

a02b371eb2 QHeaderView: properly connect rows/columnsMoved
QHeaderViewPrivate reimplemented _q_layoutChanged() to handle changes
of rows/columns via layoutChanged/layoutAboutToBeChanged. This worked
fine for Qt4 but since Qt5 only the special signals rowsAboutToBeMoved/
rowsMoved are used for this (8021e2d5e7).
With this change, QAbstractItemViewPrivate::_q_rows/columnsMoved() is
calling the virtual function _q_layoutChanged(). This resulted in a
wrong call of QHP::_q_layoutChanged() for a horizontal header when
a row changed and for a vertical header during a column change. In the
end this can lead to an unhide of hidden sections.

93dabeba9d QTreeView: Make sure QHeaderView is notified on layoutChanged()
QHeaderViewPrivate::_q_layoutChanged() was not called when used in a
QTreeView because it was explicitly disconnected in setModel().
The disconnect was added sometime prio to Qt 4.3, but there the signal
was connected to the doItemsLayout() slot. This was correct since
QTreeView::doItemsLayout() is calling header->doItemsLayout().
In Qt 4.3.0 _q_layoutChanged() was introduced and the disconnect was
adjusted. But since _q_layoutChanged() is doing much more than
doItemsLayout() (e.g. restoring hidden sections), functionality was
lost. The problem was already observed for Qt 4.6 (QTBUG-18196) but
only partially fixed.

99b1253101 Kludge round MS TZ APIs' lies breaking a test
Commit 68bcccac took account of MS TZ APIs mis-describing non-DST
zones making changes to standard offset (e.g. Europe/Samara in 2011 at
the end of October); however a DST transition that coincides with an
equal and opposite change to standard offset, while the other end of
its DST period changes normally, ends up looking exactly the same
(although it's nominally subtly different), in MS's APIs. Thus fixing
the more common case broke this more obscure case; there is no way to
fix this (other than not using MS's broken-by-design APIs). So kludge
the test to skip the bit we know this breaks.

c27348985d Simplify date-time formatting in textForRole()
QAbstractItemDelegatePrivate::textForRole() was formatting date and
time separately, then gluing the parts back together with space.
QLocale can do that just fine itself (it has a toString() overload
that handles a QDateTime) and might even (some day) do it better. To
my mild surprise, this proved sufficient to fix a problem with
date-time display in tool-tips, when the date-time includes a zone.

Extracted the date-time part of an existing selftest into a test of
its own and extended it to test times of each spec-type; verified that
the non-local spec cases of this all failed before this fix.

b4ef4469ba QDateTimeParser: reject all short values in fixed-width fields
Previously, a 1, 2 or 3 for "dd" would be rejected because 10, 20 or
30 would fit in the field and be valid; but 4 or more was accepted,
even though it was too short for the field, because no suffix could
make it valid within the field-width.

[ChangeLog][QtCore][QDateTime] When parsing dates and times from
strings, fixed-width date-time fields, such as a "dd" for day,
QDateTime now rejects all values that should be padded, rather
than only doing so when the value is a prefix of some value that
would fill the field-width. Use a single letter for the field,
e.g. "d" for day, if you want to accept short
values. (QDateTimeEdit is not affected.)

the end of year 7999 as maximum value for dates and date-times; extend

all formats (not only in ISO format). Widgets handling dates now

QTreeWidgetItem::insertChildren should behave like a more-optimized

7a5644d648 QMimeDatabase: redesign to use both binary and XML providers
Previously, we would use mime.cache in all mime directories if at
least one of them had such a file (other than the most-local one),
otherwise the "source" XML would be used in all directories.

Now it's possible to use mime.cache in those directories which
have one, and XML in those directories that don't.

Not only is this more correct, it will allow in a subsequent
commit to bundle the binary cache in QtCore's qrc rather than
the very big XML file.

The design change to allow this is that now every provider
only deals with a single directory, and QMimeDatabasePrivate
takes care of creating multiple providers, one for each dir.
This required to move most of the loops from the binary provider
up to QMimeDatabasePrivate itself.

This change proposes qsizetype as new name for qssize_t to emphasize the
readability of code over POSIX compatibility, the former being
potentially more relevant than the latter to the majority of users of

4be50ecafd QTemporaryFile: fix issues with removing a file twice
The assertion in isUnnamedFile() we had was incorrect after the file was
removed, since we cleared the name and possibly reset back to the
template. Since ~QTemporaryFile() calls remove(), this was easy to
trigger if you attempted to remove the temp file and leave
QTemporaryFile like that.

Take this opportunity to add to the docs of setAutoRemove() explaining
the possibility of unnamed files.

a6d7f38791 QHeaderView: Simplify and fix layoutChange handling
A layoutChange indicates that anything can have moved to anywhere else,
including as a result purely of new items being added. It can also
indicate that items are removed.

The old code here incorrectly assumed that the section count remained
constant over this operation by setting the size of the oldSectionHidden
QBitArray - whose size is the size before the layoutChange operation -
and then calling setBit with model rows numbered after the layoutChange
operation. As the two are not necessarily the same dimensions, this can
result in asserts from the setBit call.

Simplify the handling of layoutChanged entirely by clearing section
information, and using the QPersistentIndexes which indicate hidden
state to restore that state after re-population.

0f3c9782e6 tst_QNetworkReply::ioHttpRedirectErrors - fix a flaky test
This test became a real pain recently. A close look at the test shows
several problems (strangely enough, the failure can never be
reproduced on real machines, only on VM - Ubuntu and RHEL 6.6).
There are several asserts that are firing from time to time here and
there. They show that the logic in test is broken/incorrect. QNAM can
open several connections to a host, our test then incorrectly resets
its 'client' data-member and bad things can later happen after
'bytesWrittenSlot' executed (and deleted a socket). For example,
I can reproduce this scenario in every second run:

1. incoming connection -> client = socket(descriptor), connect to
   client's readyRead (s1)
2. incoming connection -> client = socket(descriptor), connect to
   client's readyRead (s2)
QNAM sends a request on s1. We reply on s2 (which is already wrong)
and call client->deleteLater(), which resets client to nullptr.
If QNAM sends something else on s1, we hit assert(!client.isNull()).

To avoid this, whenever 'sender' in any slot is different from the
'client', we use the actual 'sender' to reply. Another problem is this
weird and rather cryptic waitForFinish which is not needed in this
particular test since we wait for reply error, not 'finished'.

As it happened before - it's not clear if these two problems
were the cause of guaranteed fails on CI - an integration failed
~10 times in a row in the same test (not happening anymore though).

b8e352ad37 Add functions for fast bulk conversion of qfloat16
Both ARM and x86 can convert fp16 much faster in bulk than one at a
time. This also enables hardware accelerated conversion on x86, when
F16C isn't unconditionally available at compile time.

This code is implemented in C to ensure that there's no leakage of
inline symbols from the .obj file that was compiled by Visual Studio
with AVX support. Unfortunately, simd.prf uses $(CXX) instead of $(CC)
for all its sources, which means the file gets interpreted as C++ by
g++, clang++ and icpc. Those compilers at least don't leak any symbols.

285596ee19 Special-case parsing of Zulu time-zone in date-times
When parsing a date-time's zone, a stray Z denotes UTC (a.k.a. Zulu
time), despite not being a valid name for the zone. Clients parsing
such date strings had to treat the Z as a literal, rather than a
zone-ID, but then they got back a LocalTime instead of the UTC the
string actually described. So teach QTimeZoneParser to handle this
special case and adapt an existing test (that used a time ending in Z,
but had to treat it as a local time) to check this works.

[ChangeLog][QtCore][QDateTime] When parsing a time-zone, "Z" is now
recognized as an alias for UTC.

ee2ad9df70 Add QFontMetrics(F)::horizontalAdvance() function
A source of constant confusion is the QFontMetrics::width() function,
which does not return the bounding width of the text, but the advance
width. We deprecate this and add horizontalAdvance() instead, to avoid the
confusion in the future.

Note that there was an internal width() overload which was only there
for the purpose of supporting the Qt::TextBypassShaping flag. This
flag has already been replaced by public API, so no such
overload is added. Instead, we deprecate the TextBypassShaping flag
as well, which makes sense, since a replacement has been made.

Also note that there was a consistency problem with QFontMetrics and
QFontMetricsF, which are supposed to be interchangeable. The
QFontMetrics::width() functions for strings took an optional int length
argument, while the floating point version did not. This error is
corrected in the advance() functions.

[ChangeLog][QtGui][Text] Added QFontMetrics::horizontalAdvance() and
QFontMetricsF::horizontalAdvance() to replace the confusingly named
width() function. The latter has now been deprecated.

39355daa40 tst_QNetworkReply::getFromUnreachableIp - fix a failing test
This patch works around Windows X86 on QEMU antics.

It appears on this platform the test behaves in some unpredictable manner:
- WSAConnect with 255.255.255.255 does not always immediately fail with
  some error, so socket engine waits for a connection timeout (30 s.),
  but the test itself
- only waits for 5 seconds and then tests that a request has finished with
  error, which is not true (we are still connecting).

To make it work - whenever we have bearermanager feature enabled, set
a connection timeout to something reasonable, not 30 s.
Since we try to connect to each address twice, make timeout 1.5 s
(so it's 3 s. in total and still is < 5 s.).

This test was failing recently on Windows 7, mingw, x86. It's not

race-conditions: two threads are accessing two shared boolean
variables without any protection.

It's unclear if these races were the reason why the test was failing,
but we fix them for good anyway. Also, a failure to start a thread
or to start listening on a TCP socket is not treated as XML-related
failure anymore and QSKIPped instead.

ba3a26ea9f mouse handling: fix issue when mixing QTest::mouse* APIs
... that become apparent after switching qtestlib to use enhanced mouse
event (a37785ec76). With the old code path,
where QGuiApplication was deducing event type it would deduce mouse release
event even when there wasn't one. The new code path doesn't do that, which
revealed an obscure problem when mixing QTest::mouse* APIs (where QWindow
overload goes through QWindowSystemInterface API and QWidget overload goes
through QApplication::notify() and sets mouse_buttons from there). What
happened in this specific test case "./tst_qtreeview selection statusTip" was:

// tst_QTreeView::selection sets mouse_buttons = Qt::LeftButton from QApplication::notify
QTest::mousePress(widget, Qt::LeftButton, ..)

// tst_QTreeView::statusTip
QTest::mouseMove(window, )

The old code path sees that position and state has changed, creates a fake
mouse event, which gets deduced as mouse release even if there wasn't one.
And by luck this happened to set mouse_buttons=Qt::NoButton. So when we use
mouse_buttons later to create QMouseEvent everything works as expected. With
the enhanced mouse we don't clear the pressed button from mouse_buttons (set
in tst_QTreeView::selection) as this is done only from press/release events,
then pass it to QMouseEvent and later because of that QApplicationPrivate::
pickMouseReceiver() returns nullptr.

The fix here is to use e->buttons when constructing QMouseEvent, instead of
relying on mouse_buttons which gets changed from various places and has other
issues that can not be solved without invalidating the current documentation
of QGuiApplication::mouseButtons() (e.g QTBUG-33161). Tests and any Qt code
in general should avoid using the fragile QGuiApplication::mouseButtons() API.
This patch does not affect the old code path (it continues working as before)
and fixes the issue described above for the enhanced mouse API. The enhanced
mouse API actually is better in a way that it does not get affected by button
state from test functions that run earlier, as opposed to the old code path
where every subsequent test function uses mouse_buttons in whatever state it
was left by the test functions that run earlier.

Not relying on mouse_buttons when creating QMouseEvent helped also to discover
other logic error. This caused an in incorrect button state for a mouse move
event that is generated for a release event that simultaneously changes a mouse
position.

0e0f656f50 Mark the previously public qstringalgorithms.h functions private
Discussed during Qt Contributor Summit 2017. We concluded that we don't
want to make these functions public, as they do not follow Qt coding
style API. Specifically,

   qStartsWith(a, b)

is not easily understood which argument is the needle and which argument
is the haystack (same problem memcpy() has). Compare that to

which can clearly be read in English as a subject-verb-object sentence.

This commit removes the unit tests that called compare().
