fdade92c20 Reorganize object type enum, such that proxies are no longer in the middle
of the range of proper JS objects.

Unfortunately, callable types no longer form a range now. However, there
are only two anyway. We put them at either end of the range of JS object
types so that certain compares can be combined.

3fabe323f2 Add kHeaderSize constant to SeqString.
This prevents potential misuse of SeqString::kHeaderSize as in the
case of live byte counting in incremental marking stub. All stubs
picked up the undefined size constant SeqString::kHeaderSize, thus
the computed size of all strings was off by two pointers slots.

81df4a42e4 Support for precise stepping in functions compiled before debugging was started (step 1)
This change will ensure that all non-optimized code will be compiled
with debug break slots when debugging is initiated. This is handled by
scanning the heap for non-optimized functions without debug break slots and setting their code to be lazy recomplied. When the lazy recompilation happens the code will ge generated with debug break slots (if debugging is still active at that point in time).

R=svenpanne@chromium.org

636991a0b3 Use the BitField class for Code::Flags.
Use the BitField helper class for the code flags, so that we do not have to
define both a shift and a mask explicitly. This makes changing the flags
layout simpler.

Also, make the 'mask' and 'max' members of BitField into constants, because
they are constant and so that they can be used as constant expressions.
E.g., so they can be used in declaring other const members or in static
asserts.

b625ce2b6b Fix a bug in scope analysis.
When recompiling code (e.g., when optimizing) we could incorrectly hoist
some function expressions. This leads to incorrect results or a crash. The
root cause was that functions were not correctly categorized as expression
or declaration at parse time.

This requires some extra hoops to prevent the print name "anonymous" for
functions created by 'new Function' from establishing a binding.

bdf6895bb3 Encapsulate element handling into a class keyed on ElementsKind
Advantage is that it's much easier to add new element types (like FAST_SMI_ELEMENTS), and that handling logic for each element kind is (more) consolidated.

Currently, only GetElementsWithReceiver uses the new encapsulation, but the goal is to move much more element functionality into the class incrementally.

f7138b1427 Implement a type recording ToBoolean IC.
The IC records the set of types it has seen, e.g. {String} or {Boolean,
Undefined}, etc. Note that in theory this could lead to a large number of
different ToBoolean ICs (512, to be exact, because we distinguish 9 types),
but in practice only a small handful of them are actually generated.

Currently the type recording part is only implemented on ia32, other platforms
continue to work like they did before, though.

Removed some dead code on the way.

We did not properly combine the property names from the parameter map

Also fix an unrelated bug: deleting from a dictionary-mode arguments

0f682143d9 Introduce code flushing of RegExp code.
Due to issues relating mostly to chrome extensions we have lately been
running into OOMs that are caused by our executable space running
out. This change introduces flushing of code from regexps if we have
not used the code for 5 mark sweeps.

The approach is different from the normal function code flusing. Here
we make a copy of the code inside the data array, and exchange the
original code with a smi determined by the sweep_generation (a new
heap variable increased everytime we do mark sweep/compact). If we
encounter a smi in EnsureCompiled we simply reinstate the code
object. If, in the marking phase of mark sweep, we find a regexp that
already have a smi in the code field, and this is more than 5
generations old we flush the code from the saved index.

90c9f1b989 Suspend runtime profiler as soon as we exit JS.
Lots of web pages have really frequently firing timers that keep the
profiler thread spinning if we require a period of JS inactivity
before suspending the profiler. While it's possible to throttle it by
increasing the sleep delay and adjusting the duration of the required
inactive period, it seemed much simpler to just stop it immediately on
exiting JS.

Stopping the profiler this way effectively turned off two optimization
heuristics: 1) eager optimization (it's reset on waking up the
profiler and now the profiler wakes up much more frequently) and 2)
optimization throttling based on JS to non-JS state ratio (the ratio
is now 100%). I removed these two heuristics and found no performance
regressions so far.

670f947a5c Implement set trap for proxies, and revamp class hierarchy in preparation:
- Introduce a class JSReceiver, that is a common superclass of JSObject and
JSProxy. Use JSReceiver where appropriate (probably lots of places that we
still have to migrate, but we will find those later with proxy test suite).

- Move appropriate methods to JSReceiver class (SetProperty,
GetPropertyAttribute, Get/SetPrototype, Lookup, and so on).

- Introduce new JSFunctionProxy subclass of JSProxy. Currently only a stub.

- Overhaul enum InstanceType:
  * Introduce FIRST/LAST_SPEC_OBJECT_TYPE that ranges over all types that
represent JS objects, and use that consistently to check language types.
  * Rename FIRST/LAST_JS_OBJECT_TYPE and FIRST/LAST_FUNCTION_CLASS_TYPE
    to FIRST/LAST_[NON]CALLABLE_SPEC_OBJECT_TYPE for clarity.
  * Eliminate the overlap over JS_REGEXP_TYPE.
  * Also replace FIRST_JS_OBJECT with FIRST_JS_RECEIVER, but only use it where
we exclusively talk about the internal representation type.
  * Insert JS_PROXY and JS_FUNCTION_PROXY in the appropriate places.

- Fix all checks concerning classification, especially for functions, to
use the CALLABLE_SPEC_OBJECT range (that includes funciton proxies).

- Handle proxies in SetProperty (that was the easiest part :) ).

- A few simple test cases.

3c7e1d7015 Create stand-alone json parser (including scanner).
The current json parser and scanner inherits fromt he normal scanners and parsers,
which are more complicated than we need for parsing json.

The supplied scanner works directly on the string supplied and has a
fast case mode for scanning only ascii characters (it will simply
create a substring or a symbol directly from the existing string). To
allow for creating symbols from a substring I have added a
SubStringAsciiSymbolKey that creates the hash based from our string
without extracting the sub-string. In case we need to add the symbol
it simply creates the symbol directly from the characters inside the
given string.

123500999f Reland 7917:
Better support for 'polymorphic' JS and external arrays

Allow keyed store/load stubs to switch between external array and fast JS arrays without forcing a state transition to the generic stub.

There CL consists of two pieces of functionality. First, code stubs for fast element arrays don't immediately transition to the MEGAMORPHIC state when there's a map mismatch. Second, two ICs are cached per map for fast elements, the MONOMORPHIC version, and a new MEGAMORPHIC version that handles two or more different maps and dispatches to shared stubs to perform the array operation.

e14402b1df A first skeleton for introducing Harmony proxies.
1) Add new type JSProxy for representing proxy objects.
Currently devoid of functionality, i.e., all properties are undefined.

2) Some rudimentary global $Proxy functions to create proxies.

Next step: Hook up getProperty and getOwnProperty handlers. Will probably
require introducing a new LookupResult type, which is a mixture of
INTERCEPTOR (handles any property) and CALLBACK (calls back to JS).
Can we unify this somehow?

TODO: Should probably rename existing Proxy type to something like
"Foreign", to avoid confusion.

Crankshaft is now the default on all platforms. This is the first
patch on the way to removing the classic code generator from the

This time with no removal of the crankshaft flag. --nocrankshaft is
not at all the same as --always-full-compiler which I had used instead
for testing. That was what caused timeouts on the buildbots because of
repeated attempts to optimize hot functions. It makes sense to keep
the crankshaft flag in case you want to run only with the full
compiler and with no adaptive compilation.

b4ff318e4b Support StringCharCodeAt in hydrogen/lithium.
This patch adds H- and L-variants of StringCharCodeAt and StringLength.

StringCharCodeAt is used to inline a constant function call of
String.prototype.charCodeAt and to implement the corresponding inline
runtime function. It does not yet use the recently introduced extra IC
state. (We can specialize on string encoding and avoid deopts because
of out of bounds accesses.)

StringLength needs more work because the stub version of it also
supports strings wrappers and it matters in some cases. (We have to
separate the string only case.)

357afa385b Change Object.defineProperty to accept undefined as getters and setters and to correctly accept overriding an accessor with a data property.
In the past we only accepted functions as argument for setting an
accessor. Since one should be able to set an accessor to undefined
this had to be changed to take either.

In addition, we did not lookup properties in the prototype chain,
causing us to call the setter of an existing accessor up the prototype
chain when trying to replace an existing accessor (that was not local)
with a data property.

1156bbc82a Fine-tune inobject slack tracking.
The current parameters (initial slack = 6, kGenerousAllocationsCount = 16)
caused 15-20% performance regression on 3d-raytrace on x64
(visible both in standalone shell and in the web harness). This is very
likely some kind of an alignment problem (it goes away completely with --prof).
A similar problem can be observed on ia32 with initial slack=2.

Increased initial slack to 8 and decreased constructions count to 8.
This made the regression go away (and did not harm any of the other tests).

589eb4a861 Add CODE_POINTER_ALIGN, use it in Page to align generated code.
The object's space in Page starts after Page header and is aligned to kMapAlignment which is 32 bytes on 32-bit and 8 bytes on 64-bit.

In case of 64-bit target, the current page header size is exactly 32 bytes so we get the code magically aligned at 32 bytes but it is better to have a separate CODE_POINTER_ALIGN macro to make sure the object space in Page is aligned properly for both maps and code.

There could be a small waste of bytes sometimes (since both Page header and Code header sizes are aligned separately) but it seems the optimal one would involve cross-dependencies between .h files and not clear if it's worth it.

This is a back-port from Isolates branch.

cfbc1eed9c Prevent modification of cached normalized maps.
Finally sovles the problem that r5342 attempted to solve.
When adding a stub to a map's code cache we need to make
sure that this map is not used by object that do not need
this stub.

Existing solution had 2 flaws:
1. It checked that the map is cached by asking the current context.
If the object escaped into another context then NormalizedMapCache::Contains
returns false negative.

2. If a map gets evicted from the cache we should not try to modify it
even though Contains returns false.

This patch implements much less fragile solution of the same problem:
A map now has a flag (is_shared) that is set once the map is added
to a cache, stays set even after the cache eviction, and is cleared
if the object goes back to fast mode.

Added a regression test.

06c867404b Dynamically determine optimal instance size.
The number of inobject properties used to be derived from the number
of this property assignments in the constructor (and increased by 2 to
allow for properties added later). This very often leads to wasted inobject
slots.

This patch reclaims some of the unused inobject space by the following method:
 - for each constructor function the first several objects are allocated using the initial
("generous) instance size estimation (this is called 'tracking phase').
 - during the tracking phase map transitions are tracked and actual property counts are collected.
 - at the end of the tracking phase instance sizes in the maps are decreased if necessary
(starting with the function's initial map and traversing the transition tree).
 - all further allocation use more realistic instance size estimation.

Shrinking generously allocated objects without costly heap traversal is made possible
by initializing their inobject properties with one_pointer_filler_map (instead of undefined).

The initial slack for the generous allocation is increased from 2 to 6 which really helps some tests.

Currenly the constructor like this:

6bd9d953dd Reapplying r5147 (caching maps for slow case objects).
r5147 wrongly assumed that a code cache for a slow case map is always empty.
This patch solves this: whenever we attempt to add a stub to a map's code cache
we check that this map is cached. If it is we give the object its own copy
of the map and only then modify the map.

3202df6c69 Copy-on-write arrays.
Object model changes
----------------------------------------
New fixed_cow_array_map is used for the elements array of a JSObject
to mark it as COW. The JSObject's map and other fields are not
affected. The JSObject's map still has the "fast elements" bit set. It
means we can do only the receiver map check in keyed loads and the
receiver and the elements map checks in keyed stores. So introducing
COW arrays doesn't hurt performance of these operations. But note that
the elements map check is necessary in all mutating operations because
the "has fast elements" bit now means "has fast elements for reading".
EnsureWritableFastElements can be used in runtime functions to perform
the necessary lazy copying.

Generated code changes
----------------------------------------
Generic keyed load is updated to only do the receiver map check (this
could have been done earlier). FastCloneShallowArrayStub now has two
modes: clone elements and use COW elements. AssertFastElements macro
is added to check the elements when necessary. The custom call IC
generators for Array.prototype.{push,pop} are updated to avoid going
to the slow case (and patching the IC) when calling the builtin should
work.

COW enablement
----------------------------------------
Currently we only put shallow and simple literal arrays in the COW
mode. This is done by the parser.

8e0cd6db8a Handle overwriting valueOf on String objects correctly when adding
This adds a check to the fast case string add to ensure that the String object still have the default valueOf function. The default valueOf is sitting on a hidden prototype of String.prototype.

Before using the fast case valueOf the object is checked for a local valueOf property. For slow case objects this check always reports true (the dictionary is not probed, so valueOf might be there) and for fast case objects the descriptor array is checked for the valueOf symbol (just liniar scan). After that the prototype is checked for beeing the initial value of String.prototype. If this all pass (that is the default valueOf is still in place) this result is cached on the map making the check fast the next time.

This is only implemented in the optimizing compiler, as the two usages of %_IsStringWrapperSafeForDefaultValueOf is never hit by the full compiler.

I will port to x64 and ARM when this has been reviewed for ia32.

I will remove the performance counters prior to final commit.

ad0e38909f Custom call IC-s for String.prototype.{charAt,charCodeAt}.
These string methods can be composed from two basic blocks: charCodeAt
and fromCharCode, both of which have fast cases for certain types of
inputs. In this patch these two blocks are refactored to allow
generating the fast cases without having to jump around the slow
cases. In the slow cases since they can now be invoked both from
inline runtime functions and from IC stubs we either have to
save/restore state of the current frame or enter/leave a new internal
frame. This is handled by new RuntimeCallHelper interface. Its
implementation for virtual frame is based on FrameRegisterState class
extracted from DeferredCode class.

675e711f1c Cardmarking writebarrier.
- New сardmarking write barrier handles large objects and normal objects in a similar fashion (no more additional space for pointer tracking is required, no conditional branches in WB code).
- Changes to enable oldspaces iteration without maps decoding:
-- layout change for FixedArrays: length is stored as a smis (initial patch by
Kevin Millikin)
-- layout change for SharedFunctionInfo: integer fields are stored as smi on
arm, ia32 and rearranged on x64.
-- layout change for String: meaning of LSB bit is fliped (1 now means hash not
computed); on x64 padding is added.
-- layout of maps is _not_ changed. Map space is currently iterated in a special
way.

897f7dedc1 Allow to define accessors on objects.
Currently one can only define accessors on object templates. This patch
allows to create accessors on the fly.

These accessors could control access to elements as well. This element
support is somewhat rudimentary and may require future work (for example,
we probably don't want to convert index into a string.)

504664365d Refactor the code cache to handle large number of properties on the global object (take 2).
A separate object type for the code cache have been added. This object has two different code caches. The first one (default_cache) is a fixed array organized in the same way as the as the code cache was before. The second cache (global_access_cache) is for code stubs to access the global object. This cache is organized as a hash table taking the property name and code flags as the key.

The reason for separating the global access stubs into a hash table representation is that the number of these is not bounded in the same was as the other types.

This is a remake of r3952 (http://codereview.chromium.org/652119) which have the additional ability to look for the index of code stubs for access to the global object.

ec86513519 Make class BitField able to use 32 bits of a uint32.
Although algorithmically correct, the compiler would not allow to instantiate
a BitField that uses all 32 bits without warnings about a too large shift
count. As a consequence we were limited to 31 bit values when using BitField.

This happened when instantiating a bitfield BitField<T, shift, size> with
[shift=0, size=32] or [shift=31, size=1] or more general any
[shift=X, size=32-X]

As side-effect of the new implementation the compiler now warns if we ever
try instantiating a bitfield with size 0.

1c2b2ac9c6 Fix construction of simple objects with setters on prototype
Simple objects which are constructed without calling the actual constructor function did not take setters defined on prototype chain of the new object into account.

Constructing objects this way is now not done if there are setters involved on the prototype chain of the new object.

This only fixes the case where the setter is found when the first object from a constructor is created. If the prototype chain is changed new objects will on take any change to setters into account.

048fe9b980 RFC: Try to be much more careful with where we skip the write barrier by:
1. Avoid using SKIP_WRITE_BARRIER when we don't have to (smis).
  2. Check and document the remaining uses of SKIP_WRITE_BARRIER.
  3. Only allow GetWriteBarrierMode when in an AssertNoAllocation scope.

The only functional change should be in DeepCopyBoilerplate where we
no longer use the write barrier mode (because of allocations). I'm
running benchmarks to see if this has a measurable impact on performance.

429f3cf9f2 Direct call to native RegExp code from JavaScript.
Calls to RegExp no longer have to be via a call to the runtime system. A new stub have been added which can handle this call in generated code. The stub checks all the parameters and creates RegExp entry frame in the same way as it is created by the runtime system. Bailout to the runtime system is done whenever an uncommon situation is encountered or when the static data used is not initialized. After running the native RegExp code the last match info is updated like in the runtime system.

Currently only ASCII strings are handled.

Added another argument to the RegExp entry frame. It indicated whether the call is direct from JavaScript code or through the runtime system. This information is used when RegExp execution is interrupted. If an interruption happens when RegExp code is called directly a retry is issued causing the interruption to be handled via the runtime system. The reason for this is that the direct call to RegExp code does not support garbage collection.

44b7c59eb5 Extend the maximum size map space
On 32-bit the maps are now aligned on a 32-byte boundary in order to encode more maps during compacting GC. The actual size of a map on 32-bit is 28 bytes making this change waste 4 bytes per map.

On 64-bit the encoding for compacting GC is now using more than 32-bits and the maps here are still pointer size aligned. The actual size of a map on 64-bit is 48 bytes and this change does not intruduce any waste.

My choice of 16 bits for kMapPageIndexBits for 64-bit should give the same maximum number of pages (8K) for map space. As maps on 64-bit are larger than on 32-bit the total number of maps on 64-bit will be smaller than on 32-bit. We could consider raising this to 17 or 18.

I moved the kPageSizeBits to globals.h as the calculation of the encoding really depended on this.

There are still an #ifdef/#endif in objects.h and this constant could be moved to globaks.h as well, but I kept it together with the related constants.

All the tests run in debug mode with additional options --gc-global --always-compact as well (except for a few tests on which also fails before this change when run with --gc-global --always-compact).

fc713930ed Remove the last context dependent reference from the Script object
For scripts originating from a call to eval the Script object used to hold a reference to the function from where the eval was called together with the code offset within that function of the eval call. This is used by the stack trace and is part of the debugger protocol. In order to avoid storing the function the script, the position within the script and the name of the function calling eval is stored instead. This avoids holding context dependent objects in the script object.

The calculation of the position of the eval in the script holding the eval is now done when the eval script is compiled as it is not possible to postpone this unless a reference is kept to the generated code for the function calling eval.

Storing a JSArray in the Script object could cause an indirect reference from the compilation cache to a global object to be created. eb4d261e24 Remove the different length string types
The different length string types was used to encode the string length and the hash in one field. This is now split into two fields one for length and one for hash. The hash field still encodes the array index of the string if it has one. If an array index is encoded in the hash field the string length is added to the top bits of the hash field to avoid a hash value of zero.

On 32-bit this causes an additional 4 bytes to be used for all string objects. On 64-bit this will be half on average dur to pointer alignment.
