It turns out the startup code in csu/elf-init.c has a perfect pair of
ROP gadgets (see Marco-Gisbert and Ripoll-Ripoll, "return-to-csu: A
New Method to Bypass 64-bit Linux ASLR"). These functions are not
needed in dynamically-linked binaries because DT_INIT/DT_INIT_ARRAY
are already processed by the dynamic linker. However, the dynamic
linker skipped the main program for some reason. For maximum
backwards compatibility, this is not changed, and instead, the main
map is consulted from __libc_start_main if the init function argument
is a NULL pointer.
For statically linked binaries, the old approach based on linker
symbols is still used because there is nothing else available.
A new symbol version __libc_start_main@@GLIBC_2.34 is introduced because

the memory usage by only allocation the required size. However,
although the resulting size is suffice for !SIGEV_THREAD time, accessing

This patch fixes both issues by embedding the information whether
the timer if a SIGEV_THREAD in the returned 'timer_t'. For
!SIGEV_THREAD, the resulting 'timer_t' is the returned kernel timer
identifer (kernel_timer_t), while for SIGEV_THREAD it uses the fact
malloc returns at least _Alignof (max_align_t) pointers plus that
valid kernel_timer_t are always positive to set MSB bit of the returned

dd26c44403 ("Consolidate sched_getcpu").
X32 has 32-bit long and pointer with 64-bit off_t. Since x32 psABI
requires that pointers passed in registers must be zero-extended to
64bit, x32 can share many syscall interfaces with LP64. When a LP64
syscall with long and unsigned long int arguments is used for x32, these
arguments must be properly extended to 64-bit. Otherwise if the upper
32 bits of the register have undefined value, such a syscall will be
rejected by kernel.
For syscalls implemented in assembly codes, 'U' is added to syscall
signature key letters for unsigned long, which is zero-extended to
64-bit types. SYSCALL_ULONG_ARG_1 and SYSCALL_ULONG_ARG_2 are passed
to syscall-template.S for the first and the second unsigned long int
arguments if PSEUDOS_HAVE_ULONG_INDICES is defined. They are used by
x32 to zero-extend 32-bit arguments to 64 bits.

Linux 5.5 remove the system call in commit
61a47c1ad3a4dc6882f01ebdc88138ac62d0df03 ("Linux: Remove
<sys/sysctl.h>"). Therefore, the compat function is just a stub that
sets ENOSYS.
Due to SHLIB_COMPAT, new ports will not add the sysctl function anymore
automatically.
x32 already lacks the sysctl function, so an empty sysctl.c file is
used to suppress it. Otherwise, a new compat symbol would be added.

For

1. addr is unchanged.
2. length is zero-extend to 64 bits.
3. prot is sign-extend to 64 bits.

The new tables are currently only used for consistency checks
with the installed kernel headers and the architecture-independent
system call names table. They are based on Linux 5.4.
The goal is to use these architecture-specific tables to ensure
that system call wrappers are available irrespective of the version
of the installed kernel headers.
The tables are formatted in the form of C header files so that they
can be used directly in an #include directive, without external
preprocessing. (External preprocessing of a plain table file
would introduce cross-subdirectory dependency issues.) However,
the intent is that they can still be treated as tables and can be
processed by simple tools.

Linux ports that still provide gettimeofday through vDSO are not
changed.
Remove sysdeps/unix/clock_gettime.c, which implemented clock_gettime
using gettimeofday; new OS ports must provide a real implementation of
clock_gettime.
Rename sysdeps/mach/gettimeofday.c to sysdeps/mach/clock_gettime.c and
convert into an implementation of clock_gettime. It only supports
CLOCK_REALTIME; Mach does not appear to have any support for monotonic
clocks. It uses __host_get_time, which provides at best microsecond
resolution. Hurd is currently using sysdeps/posix/clock_getres.c for
clock_getres; its output for CLOCK_REALTIME is based on
sysconf (_SC_CLK_TCK), and I do not know whether that gives the
correct result.
Unlike settimeofday, there are no known uses of gettimeofday's
vestigial "get time zone" feature that are not bugs. (The per-process
timezone support in localtime and friends is unrelated, and the
programs that set the kernel's offset between the hardware clock and
UTC do not need to read it back.) Therefore, this feature is dummied
out. Henceforth, if gettimeofday's "struct timezone" argument is not
NULL, it will write zeroes to both fields. Any program that is
actually looking at this data will thus think it is running in UTC,
which is probably more correct than whatever it was doing before.
[__]gettimeofday no longer has any internal callers, so we can now
remove its internal prototype and PLT bypass aliases. The
__gettimeofday@GLIBC_2.0 export remains, in case it is used by any

syscall. The defaut value assumed for __IPC_64 is also changed
from 0x100 to 0x0, aligning with Linux generic UAPI. The idea
is to simplify the Linux 5.1 wire-up for sysvipc syscalls for
some 32-bit ABIs (which expectes __IPC_64 being 0x0) and simplify
new ports (which will no longer need to add ipc_priv.h).
2. It also removes some duplicated internal definition used on compat
sysvipc symbols defined at ipc_priv.h (more specifically the
__old_ipc_perm, SEMCTL_ARG_ADDRESS, MSGRCV_ARGS, and

In glibc 2.17, the functions clock_getcpuclockid, clock_getres,
clock_gettime, clock_nanosleep, and clock_settime were moved from
librt.so to libc.so, leaving compatibility stubs behind. Now that the
dynamic linker no longer insists on finding versioned symbols in the
same library that originally defined them, we do not need the stubs
anymore, and this means we don't need GLIBC_PRIVATE __-prefix aliases
for most of the functions anymore either. (clock_gettime still needs
one.) For ports added before 2.17, libc.so needs to provide two
symbol versions for each, the default at GLIBC_2.17 plus a compat
version matching what librt had.
While I'm at it, move the clock_*.c files and their tests from rt/ to

This patch refactor sigcontextinfo.h header to use SA_SIGINFO as default
for both gmon and debug implementations. This allows simplify
profil-counter.h on Linux to use a single implementation and remove the
requirements for newer ports to redefine __sigaction/sigaction to use
SA_SIGINFO.
The GET_PC macro is also replaced with a function sigcontext_get_pc that
returns an uintptr_t instead of a void pointer. It allows easier convertion
to integer on ILP32 architecture, such as x32, without the need to suppress
compiler warnings.
The patch also requires some refactor of register-dump.h file for some
architectures (to reflect it is now called from a sa_sigaction instead of
sa_handler signal context).
- Alpha, i386, and s390 are straighfoward to take in consideration the
new argument type.
- ia64 takes in consideration the kernel pass a struct sigcontextt
as third argument for sa_sigaction.
- sparc take in consideration the kernel pass a pt_regs struct
as third argument for sa_sigaction.
- m68k dummy function is removed and the FP state is dumped on
register_dump itself.
- For SH the register-dump.h file is consolidate on a common implementation
and the floating-point state is checked based on ownedfp field.
The register_dump does not change its output format in any affected
architecture.

The resolution of C floating-point Clarification Request 25
<http://www.open-std.org/jtc1/sc22/wg14/www/docs/n2397.htm#dr_25> is
that the totalorder and totalordermag functions should take pointer
arguments, and this has been adopted in C2X (with const added; note
that the integration of this change into C2X is present in the C
standard git repository but postdates the most recent public PDF
draft).
This patch updates glibc accordingly. As a defect resolution, the API
is changed unconditionally rather than supporting any sort of TS
18661-1 mode for compilation with the old version of the API. There
are compat symbols for existing binaries that pass floating-point
arguments directly. As a consequence of changing to pointer
arguments, there are no longer type-generic macros in tgmath.h for
these functions.
Because of the fairly complicated logic for creating libm function
aliases and determining the set of aliases to create in a given glibc
configuration, rather than duplicating all that in individual source
files to create the versioned and compat symbols, the source files for
the various versions of totalorder functions are set up to redefine
weak_alias before using libm_alias_* macros to create the symbols
required. In turn, this requires creating a separate alias for each
symbol version pointing to the same implementation (see binutils bug
<https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=23840>), which is
done automatically using __COUNTER__. (As I noted in
<https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2018-10/msg00631.html>, it might
well make sense for glibc's symbol versioning macros to do that alias
creation with __COUNTER__ themselves, which would somewhat simplify
the logic in the totalorder source files.)
It is of course desirable to test the compat symbols. I did this with
the generic libm-test machinery, but didn't wish to duplicate the
actual tables of test inputs and outputs, and thought it risky to
attempt to have a single object file refer to both default and compat
versions of the same function in order to test them together. Thus, I
created libm-test-compat_totalorder.inc and
libm-test-compat_totalordermag.inc which include the generated .c
files (with the processed version of those tables of inputs) from the
non-compat tests, and added appropriate dependencies. I think this
provides sufficient test coverage for the compat symbols without also
needing to make the special ldbl-96 and ldbl-128ibm tests (of
peculiarities relating to the representations of those formats that
can't be covered in the generic tests) run for the compat symbols.
Tests of compat symbols need to be internal tests, meaning _ISOMAC is
not defined. Making some libm-test tests into internal tests showed
up two other issues. GCC diagnoses duplicate macro definitions of
__STDC_* macros, including __STDC_WANT_IEC_60559_TYPES_EXT__; I added
an appropriate conditional and filed
<https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=91451> for this issue.
On ia64, include/setjmp.h ends up getting included indirectly from
libm-symbols.h, resulting in conflicting definitions of the STR macro
(also defined in libm-test-driver.c); I renamed the macros in
include/setjmp.h. (It's arguable that we should have common internal
headers used everywhere for stringizing and concatenation macros.)
Tested for x86_64 and x86, and with build-many-glibcs.py.

This patch assumes static vDSO is supported as default, it is now supported
on all current architectures that support vDSO. It allows removing both
ALWAYS_USE_VSYSCALL define, which an architecture requires to explicit define
and USE_VSYSCALL (which defines vDSO only for shared or if architecture defines
ALWAYS_USE_VSYSCALL).
Checked with a build against all affected ABIs.

With commit f0b2132b35 ("ld.so:
Support moving versioned symbols between sonames [BZ #24741]"), the
dynamic linker will find the definition of vfork in libc and binds
a vfork reference to that symbol, even if the soname in the version
reference says that the symbol should be located in libpthread.
As a result, the forwarder (whether it's IFUNC-based or a duplicate
of the libc implementation) is no longer necessary.
On older architectures, a placeholder symbol is required, to make sure
that the GLIBC_2.1.2 symbol version does not go away, or is turned in
to a weak symbol definition by the link editor. (The symbol version
needs to preserved so that the symbol coverage check in
elf/dl-version.c does not fail for old binaries.)
mips32 is an outlier: It defined __vfork@@GLIBC_2.2, but the
baseline is GLIBC_2.0. Since there are other @@GLIBC_2.2 symbols,
the placeholder symbol is not needed there.

Different than other architectures, x86 lll_trylock, lll_lock, and
lll_unlock implements a single-thread optimization to avoid atomic
operation, using cmpxchgl instead. This patch implements by using
the new single-thread.h definitions in a generic way, although using

Adjust comment.
Patch ce7eb0e903 ("nptl: Cleanup cancellation macros") changed the
join sequence for internal common __pthread_timedjoin_ex to use the
new macro lll_wait_tid. The idea was this macro would issue the
cancellable futex operation depending whether the timeout is used or
not. However if a timeout is used, __lll_timedwait_tid is called and
it is not a cancellable entrypoint.
This patch fixes it by simplifying the code in various ways:
- Instead of adding the cancellation handling on __lll_timedwait_tid,
it moves the generic implementation to pthread_join_common.c (called
now timedwait_tid with some fixes to use the correct type for pid).
- The llvm_wait_tid macro is removed, along with its replication on
x86_64, i686, and sparc arch-specific lowlevellock.h.
- sparc32 __lll_timedwait_tid is also removed, since the code is similar
to generic one.
- x86_64 and i386 provides arch-specific __lll_timedwait_tid which is
also removed since they are similar in functionality to generic C code
and there is no indication it is better than compiler generated code.
New tests, tst-join8 and tst-join9, are provided to check if
pthread_timedjoin_np acts as a cancellation point.

Introduce new exp and exp2 symbol version that don't do SVID compatible
error handling. The standard errno and fp exception based error handling
is inline in the new code and does not have significant overhead.
The double precision wrappers are disabled for sysdeps/ieee754/dbl-64
by using empty w_exp.c and w_exp2.c files, the math/w_exp.c and
math/w_exp2.c files use the wrapper template and can be included by
targets that have their own exp and exp2 implementations or use ifunc
on the glibc internal __ieee754_exp symbol.
The compatibility symbol versions still use the wrapper with SVID error
handling around the new code. There is no new symbol version nor
compatibility code on !LIBM_SVID_COMPAT targets (e.g. riscv).
On targets where previously expl and exp2l were aliases of exp and exp2,
now they point to the compatibility symbols with the wrapper, because
they still need the SVID compatible error handling. This affects
NO_LONG_DOUBLE (e.g arm) and LONG_DOUBLE_COMPAT (e.g. alpha) targets
as well.
The _finite symbols are now aliases of the standard symbols (they have
no performance advantage anymore). Both the standard symbols and
_finite symbols set errno and thus not const functions.
The ia64 asm is changed so the compat and new symbol versions map to the
same address.
On x86_64 #include <math.h> was added before macro definitions that may
affect that header (the new macro name is __exp instead of __ieee754_exp
which breaks some math.h macros).
Tested with build-many-glibcs.py.

This patch adds a field to ucontext_t to save shadow stack:
1. getcontext and swapcontext are updated to save the caller's shadow
stack pointer and return addresses.
2. setcontext and swapcontext are updated to restore shadow stack and
jump to new context directly.
3. makecontext is updated to allocate a new shadow stack and set the
caller's return address to __start_context.
Since makecontext allocates a new shadow stack when making a new
context and kernel allocates a new shadow stack for clone/fork/vfork
syscalls, we track the current shadow stack base. In setcontext and
swapcontext, if the target shadow stack base is the same as the current
shadow stack base, we unwind the shadow stack. Otherwise it is a stack
switch and we look for a restore token.
We enable shadow stack at run-time only if program and all used shared
objects, including dlopened ones, are shadow stack enabled, which means
that they must be compiled with GCC 8 or above and glibc 2.28 or above.
We need to save and restore shadow stack only if shadow stack is enabled.
When caller of getcontext, setcontext, swapcontext and makecontext is
compiled with smaller ucontext_t, shadow stack won't be enabled at
run-time. We check if shadow stack is enabled before accessing the
extended field in ucontext_t.

The implementation falls back to renameat if renameat2 is not available
in the kernel (or in the kernel headers) and the flags argument is zero.
Without kernel support, a non-zero argument returns EINVAL, not ENOSYS.
This mirrors what the kernel does for invalid renameat2 flags.
This patch fixes the OFD ("file private") locks for architectures that
support non-LFS flock definition (__USE_FILE_OFFSET64 not defined). The
issue in this case is both F_OFD_{GETLK,SETLK,SETLKW} and
F_{SET,GET}L{W}K64 expects a flock64 argument and when using old
F_OFD_* flags with a non LFS flock argument the kernel might interpret
the underlying data wrongly. Kernel idea originally was to avoid using
such flags in non-LFS syscall, but since GLIBC uses fcntl with LFS
semantic as default it is possible to provide the functionality and
avoid the bogus struct kernel passing by adjusting the struct manually
for the required flags.
The idea follows other LFS interfaces that provide two symbols:
1. A new LFS fcntl64 is added on default ABI with the usual macros to
select it for FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64.
2. The Linux non-LFS fcntl use a stack allocated struct flock64 for
F_OFD_{GETLK,SETLK,SETLKW} copy the results on the user provided
struct.
3. Keep a compat symbol with old broken semantic for architectures
that do not define __OFF_T_MATCHES_OFF64_T.
So for architectures which defines __USE_FILE_OFFSET64, fcntl64 will
aliased to fcntl and no adjustment would be required. So to actually
use F_OFD_* with LFS support the source must be built with LFS support
(_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64).
Also F_OFD_SETLKW command is handled a cancellation point, as for
F_SETLKW{64}.

The llseek function name is an obsolete, Linux-specific, unprototyped
name for lseek64 with a link-time warning. This patch completes the
obsoletion of this function name by making it into a compat symbol,
not available for newly linked programs and not included in the ABI
for new ports.
When a compat symbol is defined in syscalls.list, the code for that
function is not built at all for static linking unless some non-compat
symbol for that function is also defined with an explicit symbol
version, so an explicit symbol version for lseek64 is added to the
MIPS n32 syscalls.list. The case in make-syscalls.sh that handles
such explicit non-compat symbol versions then needs to be changed to
use weak_alias instead of strong_alias when the syscall is built
outside of libc, to avoid linknamespace failures from a strong lseek64
symbol in static libpthread.
The x32 llseek.S was as far as I could tell already unused (nothing
builds an llseek.* source file, at least since the lseek / lseek64 /
llseek consolidation), so is removed in this patch as well.
Tested for x86_64 and x86, and with build-many-glibcs.py.

This patch consolidates all Linux sigaction implementations on the default
sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/sigaction.c. The idea is remove redundant code
and simplify new ports addition by following the current generic
Linux User API (UAPI).
The UAPI for new ports defines a generic extensible sigaction struct as:
struct sigaction
{
__sighandler_t sa_handler;
unsigned long sa_flags;
#ifdef SA_RESTORER
void (*sa_restorer) (void);
#endif
sigset_t sa_mask;
};
Where SA_RESTORER is just placed for compatibility reasons (news ports
should not add it). A similar definition is used on generic
kernel_sigaction.h.
The user exported sigaction definition is not changed, so for most
architectures it requires an adjustment to kernel expected one for the
syscall.
The main changes are:
- All architectures now define and use a kernel_sigaction struct meant
for the syscall, even for the architectures where the user sigaction
has the same layout of the kernel expected one (s390-64 and ia64).
Although it requires more work for these architectures, it simplifies
the generic implementation. Also, sigaction is hardly a hotspot where
micro optimization would play an important role.
- The generic kernel_sigaction definition is now aligned with expected
UAPI one for newer ports, where SA_RESTORER and sa_restorer are not
expected to be defined. This means adding kernel_sigaction for
current architectures that does define it (m68k, nios2, powerpc, s390,
sh, sparc, and tile) and which rely on previous generic definition.
- Remove old MIPS usage of sa_restorer. This was removed since 2.6.27
(2957c9e61ee9c - "[MIPS] IRIX: Goodbye and thanks for all the fish").
- The remaining arch-specific sigaction.c are to handle ABI idiosyncrasies
(like SPARC kernel ABI for rt_sigaction that requires an additional
stub argument).
So for new ports the generic implementation should work if its uses
Linux UAPI. If SA_RESTORER is still required (due some architecture
limitation), it should define its own kernel_sigaction.h, define it and
include generic header (assuming it still uses the default generic kernel
layout).

Linux kernel architectures have various arrangements for umount
syscalls. There is a syscall that takes flags, and an older one that
does not. Newer architectures have only the one taking flags, under
the name umount2 (or under the name umount, in the ia64 case). Older
architectures may have both, under the names umount2 and umount (or
under the names umount and oldumount, in the alpha case). glibc then
has several similar implementations of the umount function (no flags)
in terms of either the __umount2 function, or the corresponding
syscall, or in terms of the old syscall under either of its names.
This patch simplifies the implementations in glibc by always using the
__umount2 function to implement the umount function on all systems
using the Linux kernel. The linux/generic implementation is moved to
sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux (without any changes to code or comments) and
all the other variants are removed. (This will have the effect of
causing the new syscall to be used in some cases that previously used
the old one, but as discussed for previous changes, such a change to
the underlying syscalls used is OK.)
There remain two variants of how the __umount2 function is
implemented, either in umount2.S, or, for ia64, in syscalls.list.
Tested with build-many-glibcs.py.

This patch refactors the ARCH_FORK macro and the required architecture

to provide the fork syscall semantic and proper document current

Instead of require the reimplementation of arch-fork.h header, this

for newer ports is used as default and redefine if the architecture
requires.

Glibc build generates header files to define constants from special .sym
files. If a .sym file includes the same header file which it generates,
it leads to circular dependency which may lead to build hang on a
many-core machine. Define GEN_AS_CONST_HEADERS when generating header
files to avoid circular dependency.
<tcb-offsets.h> is needed for i686 and it isn't needed for x86-64 at
least since glibc 2.23.

This patch adds the narrowing add functions from TS 18661-1 to glibc's
libm: fadd, faddl, daddl, f32addf64, f32addf32x, f32xaddf64 for all
configurations; f32addf64x, f32addf128, f64addf64x, f64addf128,
f32xaddf64x, f32xaddf128, f64xaddf128 for configurations with
_Float64x and _Float128; __nldbl_daddl for ldbl-opt. As discussed for
the build infrastructure patch, tgmath.h support is deliberately
deferred, and FP_FAST_* macros are not applicable without optimized
function implementations.
Function implementations are added for all relevant pairs of formats
(including certain cases of a format and itself where more than one
type has that format). The main implementations use round-to-odd, or
a trivial computation in the case where both formats are the same or
where the wider format is IBM long double (in which case we don't
attempt to be correctly rounding). The sysdeps/ieee754/soft-fp
implementations use soft-fp, and are used automatically for
configurations without exceptions and rounding modes by virtue of
existing Implies files. As previously discussed, optimized versions
for particular architectures are possible, but not included.
i386 gets a special version of f32xaddf64 to avoid problems with
double rounding (similar to the existing fdim version), since this
function must round just once without an intermediate rounding to long
double. (No such special version is needed for any other function,
because the nontrivial functions use round-to-odd, which does the
intermediate computation with the rounding mode set to round-to-zero,
and double rounding is OK except in round-to-nearest mode, so is OK
for that intermediate round-to-zero computation.) mul and div will
need slightly different special versions for i386 (using round-to-odd
on long double instead of precision control) because of the
possibility of inexact intermediate results in the subnormal range for
double.
To reduce duplication among the different function implementations,
math-narrow.h gets macros CHECK_NARROW_ADD, NARROW_ADD_ROUND_TO_ODD
and NARROW_ADD_TRIVIAL.
In the trivial cases and for any architecture-specific optimized
implementations, the overhead of the errno setting might be
significant, but I think that's best handled through compiler built-in
functions rather than providing separate no-errno versions in glibc
(and likewise there are no __*_finite entry points for these function
provided, __*_finite effectively being no-errno versions at present in
most cases).
Tested for x86_64 and x86, with both GCC 6 and GCC 7. Tested for
mips64 (all three ABIs, both hard and soft float) and powerpc with GCC
7. Tested with build-many-glibcs.py with both GCC 6 and GCC 7.

This patch continues filling out TS 18661-3 support by adding *f64 and
*f32x function aliases, supporting _Float64 and _Float32x, as aliases
for double functions. These types are supported for all glibc
configurations. The API corresponds exactly to that for _Float128 and
_Float64x. _Float32 aliases to float functions remain to be added in
subsequent patches to complete this process (then there are a few
miscellaneous functions in TS 18661-3 to implement that aren't simply
versions of existing functions for new types).
The patch enables the feature in bits/floatn-common.h, adds symbol

for the libm functions for the new types to be tested. As with the
_Float64x changes there are some x86 ulps updates because of header

This adds system call wrappers for pkey_alloc, pkey_free, pkey_mprotect,
and x86-64 implementations of pkey_get and pkey_set, which abstract over
the PKRU CPU register and hide the actual number of memory protection
keys supported by the CPU. pkey_mprotect with a -1 key is implemented
using mprotect, so it will work even if the kernel does not support the
pkey_mprotect system call.
The system call wrapers use unsigned int instead of unsigned long for
parameters, so that no special treatment for x32 is needed. The flags
argument is currently unused, and the access rights bit mask is limited
to two bits by the current PKRU register layout anyway.

This patch continues filling out TS 18661-3 support by adding *f64x
function aliases on platforms with _Float64x support. (It so happens
the set of such platforms is exactly the same as the set of platforms
with _Float128 support, although on x86_64, x86 and ia32 the _Float64x
format is Intel extended rather than binary128.) The API provided
corresponds exactly to that provided for _Float128, mostly coming from
TS 18661-3. As these functions always alias those for another type
(long double, _Float128 or both), __* function names are not provided,
as in other cases of alias types.
Given the preparation done in previous patches, this one just enables
the feature via Makeconfig and bits/floatn.h, adds symbol versions,
and updates documentation and ABI baselines. The symbol versions are
present unconditionally as GLIBC_2.27 in the relevant Versions files,
as it's OK for those to specify versions for functions that may not be
present in some configurations; no additional complexity is needed
unless in future some configuration gains support for this type that
didn't have such support in 2.27. The Makeconfig additions for ia64
and x86 aren't strictly needed, as those configurations also get
float64x-alias-fcts definitions from
sysdeps/ieee754/float128/Makeconfig, but still seem appropriate given
that _Float64x is not _Float128 for those configurations.
A libm-test-ulps update for x86 is included. This is because
bits/mathinline.h does not have _Float64x support added and for two
functions the use of out-of-line functions results in increased ulps
(ifloat64x shares ulps with ildouble / ifloat128 as appropriate).
Given that we'd like generally to eliminate bits/mathinline.h
optimizations, preferring to have such optimizations in GCC instead,
it seems reasonable not to add such support there for new types. GCC
support for _FloatN / _FloatNx built-in functions is limited, but has
been improved in GCC 8, and at some point I hope the full set of libm
built-in functions in GCC, and other optimizations with
per-floating-type aspects, will be enabled for all _FloatN / _FloatNx
types.
Tested for x86_64 and x86, and with build-many-glibcs.py, with both
GCC 6 and GCC 7.

The system call is somewhat obscure because it is closely related
to file descriptor sealing. However, it is also the recommended
way to create alias mappings, which is why it has more general use.
No emulation is provided. Except for the name of the
/proc/self/fd links, it would be possible to implement an
approximation using O_TMPFILE and tmpfs, but this does not appear
to be worth the added complexity.

Current GLIBC has two ways to implement the single thread optimization
on syscalls to avoid calling the cancellation path: either by using
global variables (__{libc,pthread}_multiple_thread) or by accessing
the TCB field (defined by TLS_MULTIPLE_THREADS_IN_TCB). Both the
variables and the macros to acces its value are defined in the
architecture sysdep-cancel.h header.
This patch consolidates its definition on only one header,
sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/sysdep-cancel.h, and adds a new define
(SINGLE_THREAD_BY_GLOBAL) which the architecture defines if it prefer
to use the global variables instead of the TCB field. This is an
optimization, so if the architecture does not define it, the TCB
method will be used as default.

This patch follows commit 5554304f0 (posix: Allow glob to match dangling
symlinks [BZ #866]) by adding a compat symbol that follow previous
semantic of not following dangling symlinks and thus avoiding call
gl_lstat with GLOB_ALTDIRFUNC.
It avoids failure with old binaries that not set the alternate function
pointer for lstat (GNUmake for instance). The following scenario, for
instance, fails with current GNUmake because glibc will access unitialized
memory when calling gl_lstat:
$ cat src/t/t.c
int main ()
{
return 0;
}
$ cat Makefile
SRC = $(wildcard src/*/t.c)
OBJ = $(patsubst src/%.c, obj/%.o, $(SRC))
prog: $(OBJ)
$(CC) $(CFLAGS) $(LDFLAGS) $(LIBS) $(OBJ) -o prog
obj/%.o: src/%.c
$(CC) $(CFLAGS) -c $< -o $@
$ make
This works as expected with the patch applied. Since it is for generic
ABI, default compat symbols are added with override for Linux due LFS.
Now we have two compat symbols for glob on Linux:
1. sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/oldglob.c which implements glob64 with
the old dirent layout. For this implementation I also set it to
not follow dangling symlinks (which is the safest path).
2. sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/glob{64}-lstat-compat.c which implements
the compat symbol for dangling symlinks. As for generic glob,
the implementation uses XSTAT_IS_XSTAT64 to define whether
both __glob_lstat_compat and __glob64_lstat_compat should be
different implementations. For archictures that define
XSTAT_IS_XSTAT64, __glob_lstat_compat is aliased to
__glob64_lstat_compat.
3. sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/alpha/oldglob.c with a different glob_t
layout. As for 1. this patch changes it to not follow dangling
symlinks.
The patch also bumps _GNU_GLOB_INTERFACE_VERSION to 2 to advertise the
new semantic. On GNUmake, for instance, it will force to it use its
internal glob implementation instead and avoiding triggering the same
failure on builds against newer GLIBCs.
Checked on x86_64-linux-gnu and i686-linux-gnu. I also checked
with a build against the major ABIs required to check for the abilist.
The changes should also work on gnulib (I run gnulib-tool.py check glob
and it shown no regressions).

This patch changes the expf and exp2f error handling semantics to only
set errno accoring to POSIX rules. New symbol version is introduced at
GLIBC_2.27.
The old wrappers are kept for compat symbols.
Internal calls to __expf now get the new error semantics, this seems to
only affect sysdeps/i386/fpu/s_expm1f.S where the errno-only behaviour
should be correct.

This patch consolidates the glob implementation. The main changes are:
* On Linux all implementation now uses the default one at
sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/glob{free}{64}.c with the exception
of alpha (which requires specific versioning) and s390-32 (which
different than other 32 bits ports it does not add a compat one
symbol for 2.1 version).
* The default implementation uses XSTAT_IS_XSTAT64 to define whether
both glob{free} and glob{free}64 should be different implementations.
For archictures that define XSTAT_IS_XSTAT64, glob{free} is an alias
to glob{free}64.
* Move i386 olddirent.h header to Linux default directory, since it is
the only header with this name and it is shared among different
architectures (and used on compat glob symbol as well).

This patch syncs posix/glob.c implementation with gnulib version
b5ec983 (glob: simplify symlink detection). The only difference
to gnulib code is
* DT_UNKNOWN, DT_DIR, and DT_LNK definition in the case there
were not already defined. Gnulib code which uses
HAVE_STRUCT_DIRENT_D_TYPE will redefine them wrongly because
GLIBC does not define HAVE_STRUCT_DIRENT_D_TYPE. Instead
the patch check for each definition instead.
Also, the patch requires additional globfree and globfree64 files
for compatibility version on some architectures. Also the code
simplification leads to not macro simplification (not need for
NO_GLOB_PATTERN_P anymore).

The NO_CANCELLATION macro is used currently on generic headers to
define non cancellable syscalls and on Linux fcntl to implement the non
cancellable variation. Former should be single-handled by not-cancel.h
header and former could be simplified build both cancellable and non
cancellable for default objects and alias the non-cancellable to default
one for rtld ones (since Linux already support cancellation as default).
This patch thus removes the NO_CANCELLATION macro and its usage. The
generic non cancellable fcntl is route to internal fcntl.

The problem for x32 is the {INTERNAL,INLINE}_SYSCALL C macros explicit
cast the arguments to 'long int', thus passing as 32 bits arguments
that should be passed to 64 bits.
Previous x32 implementation uses the auto-generated syscalls from
assembly macros (syscalls.list), so the {INTERNAL,INLINE}_SYSCALL
macros are never used with 64 bit argument in x32 (which are
internally broken for this ILP).
To fix it I used a strategy similar to MIPS64n32 (although both
ABI differs for some syscalls on how top pass 64-bits arguments)
where argument types for kernel call are defined using GCC extension
'typeof' with a arithmetic operation. This allows 64-bits arguments
to be defined while 32-bits argument will still passed as 32-bits.
I also cleanup the {INLINE,INTERNAL}_SYSCALL definition by defining
'inline_syscallX' instead of constructing the argument passing using
macros (it adds some readability) and removed the ununsed
INTERNAL_SYSCALL_NCS_TYPES define (since the patch idea is exactly to
avoid requiric explicit types passing).
Tested on x86_64 and x32.

The ucontext_t type has a tag struct ucontext. As with previous such
issues for siginfo_t and stack_t, this tag is not permitted by POSIX
(is not in a reserved namespace), and so namespace conformance means
breaking C++ name mangling for this type.
In this case, the type does need to have some tag rather than just a
typedef name, because it includes a pointer to itself. This patch
uses struct ucontext_t as the new tag, so the type is mangled as
ucontext_t (the POSIX *_t reservation applies in all namespaces, not
just the namespace of ordinary identifiers). Another reserved name
such as struct __ucontext could of course be used.
Because of other namespace issues, this patch does not by itself fix
bug 21457 or allow any XFAILs to be removed.

This patch enables float128 support for x86_64 and x86. All GCC
versions that can build glibc provide the required support, but since
GCC 6 and before don't provide __builtin_nanq / __builtin_nansq, sNaN
tests and some tests of NaN payloads need to be disabled with such
compilers (this does not affect the generated glibc binaries at all,
just the tests). bits/floatn.h declares float128 support to be
available for GCC versions that provide the required libgcc support
(4.3 for x86_64, 4.4 for i386 GNU/Linux, 4.5 for i386 GNU/Hurd);
compilation-only support was present some time before then, but not
really useful without the libgcc functions.
fenv_private.h needed updating to avoid trying to put _Float128 values
in registers. I make no assertion of optimality of the
math_opt_barrier / math_force_eval definitions for this case; they are
simply intended to be sufficient to work correctly.
Tested for x86_64 and x86, with GCC 7 and GCC 6. (Testing for x32 was
compilation tests only with build-many-glibcs.py to verify the ABI
baseline updates. I have not done any testing for Hurd, although the
float128 support is enabled there as for GNU/Linux.)

On aarch64, alpha, arm, hppa, mips, nios2, powerpc, sh, sparc, tile,
and x86_64 the clone syscall jumps to _exit after the child execution
and the function ends the process execution by calling exit_group.
This behavior have a small issue where threads created with
CLONE_THREAD using clone syscall directly will eventually exit the
whole group altogether instead of just the thread created. Also,
s390, microblaze, ia64, i386, and m68k differs by calling exit
syscall directly.
This patch changes all architectures to call the exit syscall
directly, as for s390, microblaze, ia64, i386, and m68k. This do not
have change glibc internal behavior in any sort, since the only
usage of clone implementation in posix_spawn calls _exit directly
in the created child (fork uses a direct call to clone).

Fix
The kernel interface for p{readv,writev}{64}v is
(unsigned long fd, {const }struct iovec *iov, unsigned long vlen,
unsigned long pos_l, unsigned long pos_h)
Except for targets which define __ARCH_WANT_COMPAT_SYS_PREADV64 and
__ARCH_WANT_COMPAT_SYS_PWRITEV64,
(unsigned long fd, {const }struct iovec *iov, unsigned long vlen,
off64_t pos)
is used for p{readv,writev}{64}v. X32 is the only such target. The
LO_HI_LONG macro is used to pass offset to the pos_l and pos_h pair.
Since pos_h is ignored when size of offset == sizeof of pos_l, x86-64
has
#define LO_HI_LONG(val) (val)
But the kernel interface for p{readv,writev}{64}v2 is
(unsigned long fd, {const }struct iovec *iov, unsigned long vlen,
unsigned long pos_l, unsigned long pos_h, int flags)
Except for targets which define __ARCH_WANT_COMPAT_SYS_PREADV64V2 and
__ARCH_WANT_COMPAT_SYS_PWRITEV64V2,
(unsigned long fd, {const }struct iovec *iov, unsigned long vlen,
off64_t pos, int flags)
is used for p{readv,writev}{64}v2. X32 is the only such target. Update
x86-64 LO_HI_LONG to pass 0 as the high part of the offset argument for
p{readv,writev}{64}v2 and define a different LO_HI_LONG for x32 to only
pass one argument for offset.
Tested on x32 and x86-64.
* sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/x86_64/sysdep.h (LO_HI_LONG): Pass
0 as the high part of offset.
* sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/x86_64/x32/sysdep.h (LO_HI_LONG): New.
This patch adds support of preadv2 and pwritev2 which are similar to
preadv/pwritev but with an extra flag argument. As for preadv/pwritev
both interfaces are added a non-standard GNU API.
For default 'posix' implementation trying to emulate the Linux supported
flags is troublesome:
* We can not temporary change the file state of the O_DSYNC and O_SYNC
flags to emulate RWF_{D}SYNC (attempts to change the state of using
fcntl are silently ignored).
* IOCB_HIPRI requires the file opened in O_DIRECT and uses an internal
semantic not provided by any other flag (O_NONBLOCK for instance).
So default sysdeps/posix implementations fails with EOPNOTSUPP for any non
supported flag (which are none currently) calls generic preadv/pwritev.
Basically this implementation supports only preadv2 called as preadv (with
flags sets to 0).
The Linux one uses the preadv2/pwritev2 syscall if defined, otherwise it
call preadv/writev. Instead of using the previous __ASSUME_* to
unconditionally issue the syscall (and avoid building the fallback routine),
it call pread/write if the preadv2/pwritev2 syscalls fails. The idea
is just avoid adding another __ASSUME_* and checking each architecture
on every kernel bump and simplify code conditionals.

This patch removes the definition of __ASSUME_GETCPU_SYSCALL. In fact
this macro is unused, probably since:
commit dd26c44403
Author: Adhemerval Zanella <adhemerval.zanella@linaro.com>
Date: Wed Apr 22 14:21:39 2015 -0300
Consolidate sched_getcpu
so it could have been removed even without the move to 3.2 as minimum
kernel version on x86_64.
Tested for x86_64.
* sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/x86_64/kernel-features.h
(__ASSUME_GETCPU_SYSCALL): Remove macro.
As per the recent discussion, this patch implements a requirement for
Linux 3.2 or later for x86 and x86_64. This is only the initial
change to increase the configured minimum; it's expected that followup
patches would deal with associated removal of conditionals that are no
longer needed. If we remove the start-up test on the kernel version,
of course the NEWS and README text should then be revised (to reflect
that this version is just one such that glibc does not intend to
include compatibility code for any older kernel version, rather than
older kernels necessarily failing to work or glibc necessarily having
compatibility code for newer interfaces).
The followups would be able to assume presence of getcpu (x86_64),
recvmmsg (not always through its own syscall, sometimes only through
socketcall), sendmmsg (likewise), /proc/$pid/task/$tid/comm, f_flags
from statfs, prlimit64.
Tested for x86_64 and x86.

dl_platform and dl_hwcap are set from AT_PLATFORM and AT_HWCAP very
early during startup. They are used by dynamic linker to determine
platform and build an array of hardware capability names, which are
added to search path when loading shared object. dl_platform and
dl_hwcap are unused on x86-64. On i386, i386, i486, i586 and i686
platforms were supported and only SSE2 capability was used.
On x86, usage of AT_PLATFORM and AT_HWCAP to determine platform and
processor capabilities is obsolete since all information is available
in dl_x86_cpu_features. This patch sets dl_platform and dl_hwcap from
dl_x86_cpu_features in dynamic linker. On i386, the available plaforms
are changed to i586 and i686 since i386 has been deprecated. On x86-64,
the available plaforms are haswell, which is for Haswell class processors
with BMI1, BMI2, LZCNT, MOVBE, POPCNT, AVX2 and FMA, and xeon_phi, which
is for Xeon Phi class processors with AVX512F, AVX512CD, AVX512ER and
AVX512PF. A capability, avx512_1, is also added to x86-64 for AVX512
ISAs: AVX512F, AVX512CD, AVX512BW, AVX512DQ and AVX512VL.

This patch consolidates all Linux mmap implementations on default
sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/mmap{64}.c one. To accomodate all required
architecture specific requeriments a new internal header is created
(mmap_internal.h) where each architecture add its specific code
requirements. Currently only x86_64 (to define MMAP_PREPARE to add
MAP_32BITS), s390 (which have a different kernel ABI for mmap), m68k
(which have variable minimum page sizes), and MIPS n32 (which zero
extend the offset to handle negative one correctly) redefine the new
header.
The patch also fixes BZ#21270 where default mmap64 on architectures
which uses mmap2 silent truncates large offsets value (larger than
1 << (page shift + 8 * sizeof (off_t)) or 1<<44 on architectures with
4096 bytes page size). The new consolidate implementation returns
EINVAL as allowed by POSIX.
It also adds a tests for on current tst-mmap-offset one. I have run
a full make check on x86_64, x86_64-32, i686, aarch64, armhf, powerpc,
powerpc64le, sparc64, and sparcv9 without any regressions. I also ran
some basic tests (tst-mmap-offset) on sh4, m68k, and on qemu simulated
MIPS32 and MIPS64.
