6ef9cc37f0 Return requested size for malloc_usable_size when MALLOC_CHECK_ > 0 
[BZ #1349]

malloc_usable_size returns the usable size in an allocated chunk,
which may be >= the requested size. In the case of MALLOC_CHECK_ being
exported to > 0 however, only the requested size is usable, since a
magic value is written at the end of the request size to trap writes
beyond request bounds. Hence, when MALLOC_CHECK_ is exported to > 0,
malloc_usable_size() should return the request size.

050af9c4e8 Don't make ttyname* fail if proc filesystem is not available 
The ttyname and ttyname_r functions on Linux now fall back to
searching for the tty file descriptor in /dev/pts or /dev if /proc is
not available.  This allows creation of chroots without the procfs
mounted on /proc.

Fixes BZ #14516.

48da0b2163 rename V variable to lib-version 
Due to the rise of kbuild type build systems (as the Linux kernel is a
popularly emulated environment), the V variable has become common as a
knob for controlling verbosity.  Unfortunately, if you run `make V=1`
with glibc during install, it fails with weird errors due to the glibc
build already using this variable for versioning information.

Granted, overriding this variable in the glibc context makes no sense
so people shouldn't be doing it, but when paired with build frameworks
that like to use one set of options for all packages, glibc starts to
stick out as an oddball (in that it fails).  Considering it's easy
enough to rename (it's used in just one place), let's do so.

15d0da8cb3 Add versions of wcscpy, wcschr, wcsrchr for power6/power7. 
Initially based on the versions found in wcsmbs/* ; these files have
been changed by hand unrolling, and adding some additional variables
to allow some read-ahead to occur, which then relieves some of the
wait-for-increment/wait-for-load/wait-for-compare-results pressure
that was slowing down every iteration through the while-loop.

For 64-bit Power7, These changes give an approx 20% throughput boost
for the wcschr and wcsrchr functions; and approx 40% boost for the
wcscpy function.  32-bit improvements appear to be slightly better
with ~ %30 and ~ %45 respectively.  Results for Power6 closely match
those for power7.

14a50c9d23 [Powerpc] Tune/optimize powerpc{32,64}/power7/memchr.S. 
Assorted tweaking, twisting and tuning to squeeze a few additional cycles
out of the memchr code.   Changes include bypassing the shift pairs
(sld,srd) when they are not required, and unrolling the small_loop that
handles short and trailing strings.

Per scrollpipe data measuring aligned strings for 64-bit, these changes
save between five and eight cycles (9-13% overall) for short strings (<32),
Longer aligned strings see slight improvement of 1-3% due to bypassing the
shifts and the instruction rearranging.

a277af22ea split assume pipe2/dup3/sock_cloexec knobs 
We can't assume sock_cloexec and pipe2 are bound together as the former
defines are found in glibc only while the latter are a combo of kernel
headers and glibc.  So if we do a runtime detection of SOCK_CLOEXEC, but
pipe2() is a stub inside of glibc, we hit a problem.  For example:

main()
{
	getgrnam("portage");
	if (!popen("ls", "r"))
		perror("popen()");
}

getgrnam() will detect that the kernel supports SOCK_CLOEXEC and then set
both __have_sock_cloexec and __have_pipe2 to true.  But if glibc was built
against older kernel headers where __NR_pipe2 does not exist, glibc will
have a ENOSYS stub for it.  So popen() will always fail as glibc assumes
pipe2() works.

While this isn't too much of an issue for some arches as they added the
functionality to the kernel at the same time, not all arches are that
lucky.

Since the code already has dedicated names for each feature, delete the
defines wiring these three features together and make each one a proper
dedicated knob.

We've been carrying this in Gentoo since glibc-2.9.

d9195db871 Also set r->r_map when unmapping the first object in a namespace. 
When unmapping the first object in a namespace, the runtime linker
did not update the externally visible pointer.  This resulted in
debuggers seeing pointers to memory that had been freed.

30f696374d Fifth argument of la_pltenter() is not constant. 
The original runtime linker auditing interface described
by Solaris allows the 5th argument of la_pltenter() to be
modified. This patch cleans up the ldsodefs.h definitions
such that the 5th argument is not constant.

At one point the 5th argument *was* constant but this was
changed with commit 2413fdba7a.
This patch updates alpha, ia64, mips, sh and sparc with similar
changes.

ca98e1710e i386/x86_64: punt HAVE_CPP_ASM_DEBUGINFO 
Pretty sure we require recent enough versions of gcc/binutils to make this
check pointless.  I can't any logs in the last few years where this check
didn't return "yes".

fb21f89b75 sunrpc: fix rpc bootstrap builds 
If you build & install glibc w/rpc disabled, you no longer have headers in
/usr/include/rpc/ (this is expected).  But if you try to build glibc w/rpc
enabled, this gets into a bad state due to the new rpc helpers that get
cross-compiled:

6e230d1183 Fix validation check when converting from ibm930 to utf 
[BZ #14134]

When converting IBM930 code with iconv(), if IBM930 code which
includes invalid multibyte character "0xffff" is specified, then
iconv() segfaults. This is easy to see using the following command:

1214ec8f4c tst-getcpu: decode errno when sched_getcpu fails 
The tst-getcpu test is failing on ia64 platforms due to sched_getcpu
returning an error.  But the current test only considers -1 when it's
also ENOSYS.  Tweak the logic a bit to make the output clearer.

A new class of installed headers has been documented for low-level
platform-specific functionality.  PowerPC added the first instance with a
function to provide time base register access (__ppc_get_timebase).  This
is required for applications that measure time at high frequencies with
high precision that can't afford a syscall.

f230c29b40 Avoid performance penalty in sparc optimized memcpy/memset. 
fmovd clears the current exception field in the %fsr, fsrc2
does not and therefore runs more efficiently on some cpus.

	values between float registers.

fed806c3af tests: move -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE to CPPFLAGS 
The -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE flags are being added to the test-specific CFLAGS
values when they should be the test-specific CPPFLAGS values.  Otherwise
the values don't override the user-specified CPPFLAGS and might end up
breaking the tests.

9c6ea9facb Fix stack size and address inconsistency due to executable stack 
When a stack is marked executable due to loading a DSO that requires
an executable stack, the logic tends to leave out a portion of stack
after the first frame, thus causing a difference in the value returned
by pthread_getattr_np before and after the stack is marked
executable. It ought to be possible to fix this by marking the rest of
the stack as executable too, but in the interest of marking as less of
the stack as executable as possible, the path this fix takes is to
make pthread_getattr_np also look at the first frame as the underflow
end of the stack and compute size and stack top accordingly.

The above happens only for the main process stack. NPTL thread stacks
are not affected by this change.

a88b64b9bb [PowerPC] Remove -ftree-loop-linear from Makefiles 
In the past the "-ftree-loop-linear" switch provided a measurable
improvement in performance for certain functions.  At some point it
was assigned as the responsibility of Graphite in GCC.  It has been
found that even with Graphite enabled these flags no longer perform
any appreciable improvement over the baseline.

Graphite now has some open bugs which need to be fixed in order for it
to provide measurable performance improvements but it lacks active
development.  As a result some compiler distributors may disable
Graphite.  If Graphite is disabled then building GLIBC will fail if
the "-ftree-loop-linear" switch is used.

This patch removes the use of "-ftree-loop-linear" as unnecessary.

286abc3dea Bump up stdio bug22 timeout from 30 seconds to 60 seconds 
The older Tilera platform (tilepro) needs just a hair over 30 seconds
to run this on one core.
