b60eba5fc5 Inline Math.sqrt().
Also changed name of GeneratePow and the %_ call name to follow convention based on MathSin and MathCos. Moved GeneratePow down to the other methods.

496868722f Added fast support for Math.pow. This simply calculates the result using the
same method as the old powi version in runtime.cc and also checks if
the exponent is 0.5 or -0.5 in which case we calculate the square root or
reciprocal value of the square root.

893637a057 Inlining a few virtual frame functions.
Introducing a virtual-frame-inl.h file containing some platform-independent
virtual frame function which are small enough to be inlined.

Removed unnecessary #include of virtual-frame.h from register-allocator-inl.h
and added the necessary explicit includes in a number of files.

a9202fc45d Begin using a list of bailouts instead of a singleton in the fast code generator.
A list of bailout descriptions is kept in the CompilationInfo
structure that is shared between the primary and secondary code
generators. The primary adds a description to the list for each
bailout position.

Responsibility for binding labels is moved from the primary to the
secondary code generator. All the labels still target the start of the
secondary code and the compilation state of the primary is still
ignored.

Move the compilation mode flag to the CompilationInfo.

6093d0dbf5 Inline NumberToString
NumberToString in runtime JavaScript is inlined through a call to a stub. Currently the stub only checks the number string cache and only if the number is a smi. Code is shared with the inlining of number string cache lookup when adding a smi to a string.

638cb4f91d Always load the JavaScript builtins code entry from the JavaScript
function instead of baking in the address of the first one that we see
in code.

This removes the need for fixups processing and makes the stubs safe
when there is no natives cache and therefore multiple versions of the
builtin functions.

Added a stub to allocate and fill a string object with a substring from another string.

Use the rep movs instruction to copy the string data as it turned out to be the fastest way.

While preparing this I experimented with some SSE2 instructions, so the instructions movdqa and movdqu are still in the IA-32 assembler even though they are not used.

429f3cf9f2 Direct call to native RegExp code from JavaScript.
Calls to RegExp no longer have to be via a call to the runtime system. A new stub have been added which can handle this call in generated code. The stub checks all the parameters and creates RegExp entry frame in the same way as it is created by the runtime system. Bailout to the runtime system is done whenever an uncommon situation is encountered or when the static data used is not initialized. After running the native RegExp code the last match info is updated like in the runtime system.

Currently only ASCII strings are handled.

Added another argument to the RegExp entry frame. It indicated whether the call is direct from JavaScript code or through the runtime system. This information is used when RegExp execution is interrupted. If an interruption happens when RegExp code is called directly a retry is issued causing the interruption to be handled via the runtime system. The reason for this is that the direct call to RegExp code does not support garbage collection.

53fbd5932a Perform string add in generated code on IA-32 platforms
This adds a code stub which can do most of what Heap::AllocateConsString can do. It bails out if the result cannot fit in new space or if the result is a short (flat) string and one argument is an ascii string and the other a two byte string. It also bails out if adding two one character strings as Heap::AllocateConsString has special handling of this utilizing the symbol table. The stub is used both for the binary add operation and for StringAdd calls from runtime JavaScript files. Extended the string add test to cover all sizes of flat result stings.

d9d18b30f5 Implement IS_OBJECT and IS_FUNCTION as inlined runtime functions.
Summary:
This change fixes a performance regression introduced by the special
handling of regular expressions in typeof expressions.
As a result we regain ~8% speedup on 3d-raytrace and ~13% on boyer
(vs bleeding edge)

Description:
The macros IS_OBJECT and IS_FUNCTION are frequently used in the
JS runtime functions.
By introducing new inlined runtime functions %_IsFunction and %_IsObject
we avoid invoking the more expensive %_ClassOf function plus comparing
its result to a string.

3eb69a34fa Begin using the top-level code generator for code that is inside
directly-applied function literals that are themselves compiled with
the top-level code generator.

The choice is guarded by a test that the function is anonymous (thus
not expected to be recursive) and not in a loop.

A compilation hint is set in the shared function info and used to make
the choice.

f74e723599 Initial infrastructure for fast compilation of top-level code. The
fast code generator is optimized for compilation time and code size.

Currently it is only implemented on IA32. It is potentially triggered
for any code in the global scope (including code eval'd in the global
scope). It performs a syntactic check and chooses to compile in fast
mode if the AST contains only supported constructs and matches some
other constraints.

Initially supported constructs are

* ExpressionStatement,
* ReturnStatement,
* VariableProxy (variable references) to parameters and
    stack-allocated locals,
* Assignment with lhs a parameter or stack-allocated local, and
* Literal

This allows compilation of literals at the top level and not much
else.

All intermediate values are allocated to temporaries and the stack is
used for all temporaries. The extra memory traffic is a known issue.

The code generated for 'true' is:

 0 push ebp
 1 mov ebp,esp
 3 push esi
 4 push edi
 5 push 0xf5cca135 ;; object: 0xf5cca135 <undefined>
10 cmp esp,[0x8277efc]
16 jnc 27 (0xf5cbbb1b)

27 push 0xf5cca161 ;; object: 0xf5cca161 <true>
32 mov eax,[esp]
35 mov [ebp+0xf4],eax
38 pop eax
39 mov eax,[ebp+0xf4]
42 mov esp,ebp ;; js return

a563800b4c Initial implementation of printing the AST as a JSON string. This
implementation is not yet complete (it prints only the node name for
some AST constructs) and does not serialize everything needed to
reconstitute the AST.

It is motivated by a desire to prototype source-to-source
transformations in JavaScript itself (or anything else that can grok
JSON), but it should have other uses too.

Feedback is welcome.

586f94f292 Split the AST LoopStatement type into separate types for do/while,
while, and for loops.

Previously they were distinguished by a type field, which required
runtime asserts to avoid invalid nodes (since not all loop types have
the same internal structure). Now they C++ type system is used to
require well-formed loop ASTs.

Because they do not share compilation code, we had very large
functions in the code generators that merely did a runtime dispatch to
a specific implementation based on the type.

4e03645dc4 Analyze functions for assignment to this properties.
During parsing functions are analyzed for statements of the form this.x = ...;. These assignments are categorized in two types: simple and non simple. The simple ones are where the right hand side is known to be either a constant or an argument to the function. If a function only contains statements of this type the property names are collected and for the simple assignments the index of the argument or the constant value assigned are stored as well.

When the initial map for a function is created and the function consists of only this type of assignemnts the initial map is created with a descriptor array describing these properties which will be known to always exist in an object created from the function.

The information on this property assignments is not collected during pre-parsing so if compiling using pre-parse data these optimization hints are not available.

Next step will be to use the information collected for the simple assignments to generate constructor code which will create and initialize the object from this information without calling the code for the function.

d7cccf6b8d Add log compression ability.
This is a trivial per-row compression:
- short aliases are introduced for events and code creation tags;
- in tick events, offsets are used instead of absolute addresses;
- removed 'code-allocation' event, as it seems not used.

The first two options are depend on the new flag: 'compress-log', which is off by default.

On benchmarks run w/o snapshot, this gives 45% log size reduction.

bd82b972fc Simplify the processing of deferred code in the code generator. Our
deferred code snippets are highly stylized. They always make a call
to a stub or the runtime and then return. This change takes advantage
of that.

Creating a deferred code object now captures a snapshot of the
registers in the virtual frame. The registers are automatically saved
on entry to the deferred code and restored on exit.

The clients of deferred code must ensure that there is no change to
the registers in the virtual frame (eg, by allocating which can cause
spilling) or to the stack pointer. That is currently the case.

As a separate change, I will add either code to verify this constraint
or else code to forbid any frame effect.

The deferred code itself does not use the virtual frame or register
allocator (or even the code generator). It is raw macro assembler
code.

01f7c87f22 This patch much improves our tracking of whether function is
called from within a loop or not. In the past we lost the
information if a call site went megamorphic before a lazily
compiled callee was called for the first time. Now we track
that correctly (this is an issue that affects richards).
We still don't manage to track the in-loop state through a
constructor call, since constructor calls use LoadICs instead
of CallICs. This issue affects delta-blue. So in this patch
we assume that lazy compilations that don't happen through a
CallIC happen from inside a loop. I have an idea to fix this
but this patch is big enough already.
With our improved tracking of in-loop state I have switched
off the inlining of in-object loads for code that is not in
a loop. This benefits compile speed. One issue is that
eagerly compiled code now doesn't get the in-object loads
inlined. We need to eagerly compile less code to fix this.

3c2a7bdf21 Add name inference for anonymous functions to facilitate debugging and profiling of JS code.
Currently function name inference is wired with AST optimization pass to avoid introducing another pass over AST. A better solution would be to rewrite AST visitors so they can be naturally combined together in a single pass, as their current implementation doesn't allow it.

For examples of cases where function names can be inferred, see the tests file.

8391b19b07 Refactor the enum RelocMode changing the naming scheme from lower case to
upper case. Moved it into the RelocInfo class together with the associated
is_xxx functions. Renamed is_xxx to IsXxx in the process.

Removed the exit_js_frame mode as it was no longer used.

Patch Set 2 renames RELOC_MODE_COUNT to NUMBER_OF_MODES and fixes a couple of lint errors.

b568d7a17b Defer the writing of the source position data to the relocation information
until a possible debug break location is reached. Currently this is call sites
with calls to code objects and JS return. Source position information in the
code therefore no longer refers to the "first" instruction generated for a
given source position (which was not the case defered code anyway) but to the
first break location after that source position was passed (again defered code
always start with source position information). This doesn't make a difference
for the debugger as it will always be stopped only at debug break locations.
However, this makes the life of the peep-hole optimizer much easier as many
oportunities for posh/pop eliminations where previosly blocked by relocation
information already written to the code object.

Two types of source positions are still collected. Statement positions indicate
the position of the start of the statement leading to this code and (plain)
positions indicate other places typically call sites to help indicate current
position in backtraces. The two different types of positions are also used to
distinguish between step next and step in.

Runs all the tests (including debugger tests) as before.

Moved the checking for the FLAG_debug_info to one place.

I will do the same changes to the ARM codegenerator in a seperate changelist.

77196c5771 This is a new static flag system, designed to have all flags in a central place, and compiled into the binary without requiring static constructors for registration. All flags are moved out of the specific modules and into flags.defs, with different sections for debug, release, etc. The flag variables are always defined. For example, a debug flag in release mode still exists, but is read only and set to the default value.

c42f5829a1 Included mjsunit JavaScript test suite and C++ unit tests.
In the shell sample don't print the result of executing a script, only
evaluating expressions.

Fixed issue when building samples on Windows using a shared V8
library. Added visibility option on Linux build which makes the
generated library 18% smaller.

Changed build system to accept multiple build modes in one build and
generate seperate objects, libraries and executables for each mode.

Removed deferred negation optimization (a * -b => -(a * b)) since this
visibly changes operand conversion order.

Improved parsing performance by introducing stack guard in preparsing.
Without a stack guard preparsing always bails out with stack overflow.

7276f14ca7 Changed all text files to have native svn:eol-style.
Added a few samples and support for building them. The samples include a simple shell that can be used to benchmark and test V8.

Changed V8::GetVersion to return the version as a string.

Added source for lazily loaded scripts to snapshots and made serialization non-destructive.

Improved ARM support by fixing the write barrier code to use aligned loads and stores and by removing premature locals optimization that relied on broken support for callee-saved registers (removed).

Refactored the code for marking live objects during garbage collection and the code for allocating objects in paged spaces. Introduced an abstraction for the map word of a heap-allocated object and changed the memory allocator to allocate executable memory only for spaces that may contain code objects.

Moved StringBuilder to utils.h and ScopedLock to platform.h, where they can be used by debugging and logging modules. Added thread-safe message queues for dealing with debugger events.

Fixed the source code reported by toString for certain builtin empty functions and made sure that the prototype property of a function is enumerable.

Improved performance of converting values to condition flags in generated code.

Merged disassembler-{arch} files.
