500d73b93e [compiler] Optimize AddInputsToFrameStateDescriptor
Optimizes InstructionSelector::AddInputsToFrameStateDescriptor by
taking advantage of SparseInputMask data structure to more quickly
handle empty inputs and insert all the OptimizedOut entries in one go.
The number of empty inputs is now determined using CountTrailingZeros
rather than iterating over them one at a time.

Gives a 9% improvement to SelectInstructions runtime call stat for
Octane in turboprop.

da900ffe5f Complete Torque definition of JSArrayBuffer
Previously, our Torque definition of JSArrayBuffer included only the
first two fields. This allowed access to those two fields, but was
somewhat confusing and obviously didn't let Torque code access the
other fields. This change:

- Completes the JSArrayBuffer layout definition;
- Moves the associated bitfield struct definition to Torque;
- Moves a couple of JSArrayBuffer macros to Torque;
- Adds a reducer case so that the code generated using these new macros
  is not worse than what was generated previously.

This reverts commit 4dc1fb4e04.

Reason for revert: the regression from the original change was likely due to unlucky factors like code alignment.

97336f2e52 [compiler] Don't calculate StateValueAccess::size in InstructionSelector
Since the size of the parameters and locals inputs is already stored on
the FrameStateFunctionInfo, this skips the calls to size() and just
reuses the previous values. The stack parameter can only have a size of
0 or 1 depending on whether it's a InterpretedFunction frame or not.

It also extends the verifier to check that the values to match those
returned by StateValueAccess::size and changes a unit test that added
a TypedStateValues of size 2 to the stack input.

e5e4ea962e [torque] Support bitfield structs stored within Smis
This change moves the definition of the bits stored in DebugInfo::flags
to Torque, and updates the only Torque usage of that field to use more
natural syntax. This is intended as an example of common patterns found
in various other classes. Several supporting changes are required:

1. Add a new type representing a bitfield struct stored within a Smi. It
   is currently called SmiTagged, but I'm open to suggestions.
2. Add an enum-style output for Torque bitfield structs whose bitfields
   occupy only one bit each.
3. Add a new case to MachineOperatorReducer that makes the generated
   code for IncBlockCounter match with what was generated before this
   change.
4. Add support for reporting these bitfields in the postmortem debugging
   API. The format matches existing bitfields but with an offset value
   that includes the SMI shift size.

2cd24ebab9 [compiler] Consider pushed arguments in stack check offset
Function calls can push arguments onto the stack. The consumed stack
slots are not considered by the function-entry stack check, since
initial frame setup only reserves space for local slots, not call
arguments. This CL adds such logic by tracking the maximum pushed
argument count during instruction selection, and adding these slots to
the (existing) stack check offset logic in code generation.

002d5be898 [gasm] Implement parts of js call reducer using the graph assembler
An initial investigation of using GraphAssembler in JSCallReducer.

This CL ports two simple reductions (ReduceMathUnary,
ReduceMathBinary) as well as a slightly more involved reduction with
branching control flow (ReduceStringPrototypeSubstring). The graph
assembler abstracts away the details of maintaining effect and control
edges. Resulting code ends up looking very similar to CSA.

Newly introduced:
- Typing through TNode.
- IfBuilder1 for nicer if-then-else sequences that return exactly 1
  value. Future CLs will add more convenience builders that follow this
  pattern.
- Many small readability improvements through helper functions.

149e4935ba Preserve feedback and speculation mode for JSCall
Changing the target of JSCall nodes (e.g. while lowering higher order calls)
now preserves feedback and speculation mode to allow further (speculative)
optimizations. A flag is introduced to mark feedback unrelated to the call
target after such a transformation. This flag is used to prevent access to
the feedback without the need to invalidate it.

b875f4661a Reland "[compiler] Optionally apply an offset to stack checks"
This is a reland of 4a16305b65

The original CL adjust only one part of the stack check, namely the
comparison of the stack pointer against the stack limit in generated code.
There is a second part: Runtime::kStackGuard repeats this check to
distinguish between a stack overflow and an interrupt request.

This second part in runtime must apply the offset just like in generated
code. It is implemented in this reland by the StackCheckOffset operator
and a new StackGuardWithGap runtime function.

Original change's description:
> [compiler] Optionally apply an offset to stack checks
>
> The motivation behind this change is that the frame size of an optimized
> function and its unoptimized version may differ, and deoptimization
> may thus trigger a stack overflow. The solution implemented in this CL
> is to optionally apply an offset to the stack check s.t. the check
> becomes 'sp - offset > limit'. The offset is applied to stack checks at
> function-entry, and is set to the difference between the optimized and
> unoptimized frame size.
>
> A caveat: OSR may not be fully handled by this fix since we've already
> passed the function-entry stack check. A possible solution would be to
> *not* skip creation of function-entry stack checks for inlinees.
>
> This CL: 1. annotates stack check nodes with the stack check kind, where
> kind is one of {function-entry,iteration-body,unknown}. 2. potentially
> allocates a temporary register to store the result of the 'sp - offset'
> in instruction selection (and switches input registers to 'unique'
> mode). 3. Applies the offset in code generation.

This rearranges the TurboProp pipeline to avoid the need for a second
schedule of the graph. To do this, it moves the final schedule creation
before effect-control-linearization (which used a temporary schedule
previously, and with TurboFan). It then enables the block updater in the
graph assembler for effect control linearization and does select and
memory lowering in a new ScheduledMachineLowering phase to maintain
this existing schedule during these lowering passes.

c07c02e1c4 [runtime] Remove extension slots from context objects
Context objects have an extension slot, which contains further
additional data that depends on the type of the context.

This CL removes the extension slot from contexts that don't need
them, hence reducing memory.

The following contexts will still have an extension slot: native,
module, await, block and with contexts. See objects/contexts.h for
what the slot is used for.
The following contexts will not have an extension slot anymore (they
were not used before): script, catch and builtin contexts.
Eval and function contexts only have the extension slot if they
contain a sloppy eval.

ae97e88542 [ptr-compr] Implement the DecompressionOptimizer Reducer and its phase
The DecompressionOptimizer aims to avoid adding the root in AnyTagged
or TaggedPointer loads. For the TaggedSigned case, we already solve it
in instruction selection.

The new phase will run only when pointer compression is enabled. For
the moment, it's also requires FLAG_turbo_decompression_elimination to
be false. This latter flag is only temporary to test out the
implementation.

The phase needs to be run when Machine are present in the graph, i.e
at the very end of the pipeline. Also, since this phase may change
the load's MachineRepresentation from Tagged to Compressed, it's best
to run it as late as possible in order to keep the phases that know
about Compressed MachineRepresentation to a minimum.

As an example, if we Load a Tagged value only to Store it back again
(i.e Load -> Store nodes, with the Load being the Store's value) we
don't need to fully decompress it since the Store will ignore the
top bits.

8ca191b6cb [tests] Fix subobject-linkage error when building with GCC
Placing these tests in anonymous namespaces, is the suggested fix
according to the GCC documentation.

The GCC documentation states: "If a type A depends on a type B with no or
 internal linkage, defining it in multiple translation units would be an
ODR violation because the meaning of B is different in each translation unit.
If A only appears in a single translation unit, the best way to silence the
warning is to give it internal linkage by putting it in an anonymous namespace as well."

4a16305b65 [compiler] Optionally apply an offset to stack checks

Drive-by: Add src/compiler/globals.h for compiler-specific globals.

Create canonical ScopeInfos for the global this binding and empty function in
the read only space, rather than creating them during bootstrapping for each
native context. This saves some memory, and also means we don't need to access
the native context to get the global this binding in when deserializing a
scope info, which is important since parsing should be native context independent.

5b2ab2f6f7 [compiler] Remove LoadStackPointer and related machinery

up related code:

- Removed LoadStackPointer.
- Removed ArchStackPointer.

- Removed X64StackCheck.
- Removed StackCheckMatcher.

All stack checks now follow a simple path without matchers or special
register constraints: they load the limit and pass it to
StackPointerGreaterThan, which is finally handled by code generation.

074fdf1ffd [turbofan][arm64] Relax immediate offset conditions on stores with barriers.
With a write barrier, stores with negative offsets would allocate a temporary
register to hold the offset when the `str` instruction is able to encode it.

For instance, when writing the object map:

```
;; This could be 'str x2, [x5, #-1]'
movn x4, #0x0
str x2, [x5, x4]
and x16, x5, #0xfffffffffffc0000
ldr x16, [x16, #8]
tbnz w16, #2, #+0xba8  ; Jump out-of-line
```

The reason behind this is that the out-of-line code uses an 'add' instruction on
the offset to compute the field address, putting pressure on the instruction
selector to make sure the immediate fits in both 'str' and 'add'.

But, this is not necessary since the macro-assembler is able to turn the 'add'
into a 'sub' or use a temporary register if needed.

4f48d04f97 [turbofan] introduce a deterministic tick measurement and assert optimization doesn't take too long
This adds a simple counter to Turbofan that's incremented throughout the compilation, hopefully
frequently enough so we can use it to detect divergence and performance bugs.
In addition, we assert that this counter never gets too high. That's the equivalent of a simple
timeout, just more deterministic. The limitations on Turbofan input size should guarantee that
we never exceed this limit. Since we probably do exceed it rarely, this check is only a DCHECK and
intended to detect performance and divergence issues, but not supposed to be performed in release
builds.

In addition, this CL adds UMA stats to observe the real world distribution of the tick measurement.

b58298803a [turbofan] Move bytecode analysis to the serializer
When --concurrent-inlining is on, run bytecode analysis for all relevant
functions at serialization time, and store the results in the broker.

Change bytecode analysis such that running it for OSR produces information
that subsumes the non-OSR case. This lets us avoid doing and storing two
analyses for the top-level function in case we do OSR and the function
gets inlined into itself.

31cd5d83d3 [arraybuffer] Rearchitect backing store ownership
This CL completely rearchitects the ownership of array buffer backing stores,
consolidating ownership into a {BackingStore} C++ object that is tracked
throughout V8 using unique_ptr and shared_ptr where appropriate.

Overall, lifetime management is simpler and more explicit. The numerous
ways that array buffers were initialized have been streamlined to one
Attach() method on JSArrayBuffer. The array buffer tracker in the
GC implementation now manages std::shared_ptr<BackingStore> pointers,
and the construction and destruction of the BackingStore object itself
handles the underlying page or embedder-allocated memory.

The embedder API remains unchanged for now. We use the
v8::ArrayBuffer::Contents struct to hide an additional shared_ptr to
keep the backing store alive properly, even in the case of aliases
from live heap objects. Thus the embedder has a lower chance of making
a mistake. Long-term, we should move the embedder to a model where they
manage backing stores using shared_ptr to an opaque backing store object.

bda32bcbd0 [ptr-compr] Specialize CompressedSigned -> Word32 conversion
This CL aims to address the regressions that we saw in Octane 2.1,
particularly in the DeltaBlue test.

This CL brings a 5% improvement in said test by doing
CompressedSigned -> Word32 conversion (instead of
CompressedSigned -> TaggedSigned -> Word32).

There seems to be room for optimizations doing more specialized conversions
regarding representation changes.

8e11cc395a Enable cpplint 'runtime/references' warning
Cpplint usually checks for non-const reference arguments. They are
forbidden in the style guide, and v8 does not explicitly make an
exception here.
This CL re-enables that warning, and fixes all current violations by
adding an explicit "NOLINT(runtime/references)" comment. In follow-up
CLs, we should aim to remove as many of them as possible.

21eb4b9d52 [cleanup][ptr-compr][turbofan] DecompressionElimination test cleanup
This is a CL that aims to do a general cleanup of DecompressionElimination
to make it easier for devs to look at it, and to create new test cases.

Combined direct decompression & compression tests since they can be
summarized with a for loop in just one test that tries out
all the combinations.

Also created 'global' accesses to stop repeating them in every test.
Same for compression and decompression ops.

Added EXPECT in test cases that had none.

Added dots after comments.

Variables now use underscore instead of camelCase.

389c2e3ccc [ptr-compr] Extend Decompression Elimination to Compress/Decompress pairs
We previously only optimized cases like

  Parent <- Decompression <- Compression <- Child

to

  Parent <- Child

This CL also adds the complementary optimization, namely, it reduces

  Parent <- Compression <- Decompression <- Child

as above.

Such a cases became apparent after a recent extension of CSA load elimination (see https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/c/v8/v8/+/1660626), breaking a load elimination test case and thus the pointer compression build.

94ae207bc7 [ptr-compr] Revisit transformed Phis in Decompression Elimination
Currently, decompression elimination may reduce phis by pushing decompressions in the value inputs of the phi "down" and replacing it by a single decompression following the phi node. Because of the way that the replacement is currently done, other reducers in the same phase will not generally get a chance to revisit the modified phi.

In the specific case of v8:9335 this blocked an additional optimization in CommonOperatorReducer from being applied, causing the overall load elimination test to fail.

This CL fixes the replacement behavior in decompression elimination to also allow for revisitations of the modified phi node.

4b86fea530 [typedarray] Move external/data pointer to JSTypedArray.
As the next step in supporting huge typed arrays in V8, this moves the
external/data pointer from the FixedTypedArrayBase backing store to the
JSTypedArray instance itself, and replaces the special backing stores
with a plain ByteArray (removing all the code for the FixedTypedArrayBase
class hierarchy). By doing so, we can drastically simplify the system
around typed arrays.

Note: Several places in the code base used to check the instance type
of the elements backing store of a JSTypedArray instead of checking the
elements kind on the JSTypedArray map directly. Those had to be fixed,
since the backing store is now always a ByteArray.

Drive-by-fix: Move all the typed elements access related code into the
elements.cc file to properly encapsulate the accesses.

a335f2aeed [cleanup] Replace simple typedefs by using
This replaces all typedefs that define types and not functions by the
equivalent "using" declaration.

This was done mostly automatically using this command:
ag -l '\btypedef\b' src test | xargs -L1 \
     perl -i -p0e 's/typedef ([^*;{}]+) (\w+);/using \2 = \1;/sg'

Patchset 2 then adds some manual changes for typedefs for pointer types,
where the regular expression did not match.

1d567568f6 [ptr-compr][csa] Loading CompressedXXX (+ Change node) instead of TaggedXXX
We translate loads with TaggedXXX (XXX in {"", "Signed", "Pointer"})
representation in CSA into loads of CompressedXXX +
ChangeCompressedXXXToTaggedXXX in the raw-machine-assembler.

This way, CSA doesn't need to know about Compressed values since we
are introducing an explicit "decompress" node.

Also updating tests that were checking for the load nodes.

7629afdb9d [lite] Allocate feedback vectors lazily
Allocate feedback vectors lazily when the function's interrupt budget has
reached a specified threshold. This cl introduces a new field in the
ClosureFeedbackCellArray to track the interrupt budget for allocating
feedback vectors. Using the interrupt budget on the bytecode array could
cause problems when there are closures across native contexts and we may
delay allocating feedback vectors in one of them causing unexpected
performance cliffs. In the long term we may want to remove interrupt budget
from bytecode array and use context specific budget for tiering up decisions
as well.

b176931311 [regalloc] Introduce deferred fixed ranges
Fixed ranges are used to express register constraints in the
allocator. This change splits these fixed ranges into one for
normal code and deferred code. The former are handeled as before
whereas the latter are only made visible while allocating
registers for deferred code.

This prevents forward looking decisions in normal code to be
impacted by register constraints from deferred code.

d6a60a0ee1 [turbofan] Significantly improve ConsString creation performance.
This change significantly improves the performance of string
concatenation in optimized code for the case where the resulting string
is represented as a ConsString. On the relevant test cases we go from

  serializeNaive: 10762 ms.
  serializeClever: 7813 ms.
  serializeConcat: 10271 ms.

to

  serializeNaive: 10278 ms.
  serializeClever: 5533 ms.
  serializeConcat: 10310 ms.

which represents a 30% improvement on the "clever" benchmark, which
tests specifically the ConsString creation performance.

This was accomplished via a couple of different steps, which are briefly
outlined here:

  1. The empty_string gets its own map, so that we can easily recognize
     and handle it appropriately in the TurboFan type system. This
     allows us to express (and assert) that the inputs to NewConsString
     are non-empty strings, making sure that TurboFan no longer creates
     "crippled ConsStrings" with empty left or right hand sides.
  2. Further split the existing String types in TurboFan to be able to
     distinguish between OneByte and TwoByte strings on the type system
     level. This allows us to avoid having to dynamically lookup the
     resulting ConsString map in case of ConsString creation (i.e. when
     we know that both input strings are OneByte strings or at least
     one of the input strings is TwoByte).
  3. We also introduced more finegrained feedback for the Add bytecode
     in the interpreter, having it collect feedback about ConsStrings,
     specifically ConsOneByteString and ConsTwoByteString. This feedback
     can be used by TurboFan to only inline the relevant code for what
     was seen so far. This allows us to remove the Octane/Splay specific
     magic in JSTypedLowering to detect ConsString creation, and instead
     purely rely on the feedback of what was seen so far (also making it
     possible to change the semantics of NewConsString to be a low-level
     operator, which is only introduced in SimplifiedLowering by looking
     at the input types of StringConcat).
  4. On top of the before mentioned type and interpreter changes we added
     new operators CheckNonEmptyString, CheckNonEmptyOneByteString, and
     CheckNonEmptyTwoByteString, which perform the appropriate (dynamic)
     checks.

There are several more improvements that are possible based on this, but
since the change was already quite big, we decided not to put everything
into the first change, but do some follow up tweaks to the type system,
and builtin optimizations later.

d922171717 [turbofan] Unify code that determines a JSCreate's map
There were four places where we did essentially the same steps in

This CL creates a function on NodeProperties for this task.

As a side effect, this fixes a bug in ReduceJSCreateArray, where
has_initial_map could get called when it wasn't permissible to do so.

Notes: For simplicity, in one or two places where we used to get the
target/newtarget constants from the types we now get them from
HeapConstant nodes.

Cosmetic change: rename "receiver_map" to the more accurate
"root_map" in JSNativeContextSpecialization::ExtractReceiverMaps.

15c31fe461 [turbofan] Add support for huge DataViews.
This introduces Word64 support for the CheckBounds operator, which now
lowers to either CheckedUint32Bounds or CheckedUint64Bounds after the
representation selection. The right hand side of CheckBounds can now
be any positive safe integer on 64-bit architectures, whereas it remains
Unsigned31 for 32-bit architectures. We only use the extended Word64
support when the right hand side is outside the Unsigned31 range, so
for everything except DataViews this means that the performance should
remain the same. The typing rule for the CheckBounds operator was
updated to reflect this new behavior.

The CheckBounds with a right hand side outside the Unsigned31 range will
pass a new Signed64 feedback kind, which is handled with newly introduced
CheckedFloat64ToInt64 and CheckedTaggedToInt64 operators in representation
selection.

The JSCallReducer lowering for DataView getType()/setType() methods was
updated to not smi-check the [[ByteLength]] and [[ByteOffset]] anymore,
but instead just use the raw uintptr_t values and operate on any value
(for 64-bit architectures these fields can hold any positive safe
integer, for 32-bit architectures it's limited to Unsigned31 range as
before). This means that V8 can now handle huge DataViews fully, without
falling off a performance cliff.

This refactoring even gave us some performance improvements, on a simple
micro-benchmark just exercising different DataView accesses we go from

  testDataViewGetUint8: 796 ms.
  testDataViewGetUint16: 997 ms.
  testDataViewGetInt32: 994 ms.
  testDataViewGetFloat64: 997 ms.

to

  testDataViewGetUint8: 895 ms.
  testDataViewGetUint16: 889 ms.

f19c4a594f [turbofan] ReceiverOrNullOrUndefined feedback for JSEqual.
This changes the ReceiverOrOddball feedback on JSStrictEqual to
ReceiverOrNullOrUndefined feedback, which can also safely be
consumed by JSEqual (we cannot generally accept any oddball here
since booleans trigger implicit conversions, unfortunately).
Thus we replace the previously introduced CheckReceiverOrOddball
with CheckReceiverOrNullOrUndefined, and drop CheckOddball, since
we will no longer collect Oddball feedback separately.

TurboFan will then turn a JSEqual[ReceiverOrNullOrUndefined] into
a sequence like this:

```
left = CheckReceiverOrNullOrUndefined(left);
right = CheckReceiverOrNullOrUndefined(right);
result = if ObjectIsUndetectable(left) then
           ObjectIsUndetectable(right)
         else
           ReferenceEqual(left, right);
```

This significantly improves the peak performance of abstract equality
with Receiver, Null or Undefined inputs. On the test case outlined in
http://crbug.com/v8/8356 we go from

  naive: 2946 ms.
  tenary: 2134 ms.

to

  naive: 2230 ms.
  tenary: 2250 ms.

which corresponds to a 25% improvement on the abstract equality case.
For regular code this will probably yield more performance, since we
get rid of the JSEqual operator, which might have arbitrary side
effects and thus blocks all kinds of TurboFan optimizations. The
JSStrictEqual case is slightly slower now, since it has to rule out
booleans as well (even though that's not strictly necessary, but
consistency is key here).

This way developers can safely use `a == b` instead of doing a dance
like `a == null ? b == null : a === b` (which is what dart2js does
right now) when both `a` and `b` are known to be Receiver, Null or
Undefined. The abstract equality is not only faster to parse than
the tenary, but also generates a shorter bytecode sequence. In the
test case referenced in http://crbug.com/v8/8356 the bytecode for
`naive` is

```
StackCheck
Ldar a1
TestEqual a0, [0]
JumpIfFalse [5]
LdaSmi [1]
Return
LdaSmi [2]
Return
```

which is 14 bytes, whereas the `tenary` function generates

```
StackCheck
Ldar a0
TestUndetectable
JumpIfFalse [7]
Ldar a1
TestUndetectable
Jump [7]
Ldar a1
TestEqualStrict a0, [0]
JumpIfToBooleanFalse [5]
LdaSmi [1]
Return
LdaSmi [2]
Return
```

which is 24 bytes. So the `naive` version is 40% smaller and requires
fewer bytecode dispatches.

8f00d61dae [turbofan] Collect and consume (ReceiverOr)Oddball feedback for StrictEqual.
This CL introduces proper Oddball and ReceiverOrOddball states for the
CompareOperationFeedback, and updates the StrictEqual IC to collect this
feedback as well. Previously it would not collect Oddball feedback, not
even in the sense of NumberOrOddball, since that's not usable for the
SpeculativeNumberEqual.

The new feedback is handled via newly introduced CheckReceiverOrOddball
and CheckOddball operators in TurboFan, introduced by JSTypedLowering.
Just like with the Receiver feedback, it's enough to check one side and
do a ReferenceEqual afterwards, since strict equal can only yield true
if both sides refer to the same instance.

This improves the benchmark mentioned in http://crbug.com/v8/8356 from

  naive: 2950 ms.
  tenary: 2456 ms.

to around

  naive: 2996 ms.
  tenary: 2192 ms.

which corresponds to a roughly 10% improvement in the case for the
tenary pattern, which is currently used by dart2js. In real world
scenarios this will probably help even more, since TurboFan is able
to optimize across the strict equality, i.e. there's no longer a stub
call forcibly spilling all registers that are live across the call.

This new feedback will be used as a basis for the JSEqual support for
ReceiverOrOddball, which will allow dart2js switching to the shorter
a==b form, at the same peak performance.

bcdede0c53 [turbofan] Eliminate redundant Smi checks around array accesses.
As identified in the web-tooling-benchmark, there are specific code
patterns involving array indexed property accesses and subsequent
comparisons of those indices that lead to repeated Smi checks in the
optimized code, which in turn leads to high register pressure and
generally bad register allocation. An example of this pattern is
code like this:

```js
function f(a, n) {
  const i = a[n];
  if (n >= 1) return i;
}
```

The `a[n]` property access introduces a CheckBounds on `n`, which
later lowers to a `CheckedTaggedToInt32[dont-check-minus-zero]`,
however the `n >= 1` comparison has collected `SignedSmall` feedback
and so it introduces a `CheckedTaggedToTaggedSigned` operation. This
second Smi check is redundant and cannot easily be combined with the
earlier tagged->int32 conversion, since that also deals with heap
numbers and even truncates -0 to 0.

So we teach the RedundancyElimination to look at the inputs of these
speculative number comparisons and if there's a leading bounds check
on either of these inputs, we change the input to the result of the
bounds check. This avoids the redundant Smi checks later and generally
allows the SimplifiedLowering to do a significantly better job on the
number comparisons. We only do this in case of SignedSmall feedback
and only for inputs that are not already known to be in UnsignedSmall
range, to avoid doing too many (unnecessary) expensive lookups during
RedundancyElimination.

All of this is safe despite the fact that CheckBounds truncates -0
to 0, since the regular number comparisons in JavaScript identify
0 and -0 (unlike Object.is()). This also adds appropriate tests,
especially for the interesting cases where -0 is used only after
the code was optimized.
