fb0a2ea25e Revert "Reland "[build] Add V8-specific dcheck_always_on""
This reverts commit 67960ba110.

Reason for revert:
This has been properly fixed by https://crrev.com/c/3053740.
Now dcheck_always_on already defaults to false for subprojects
like V8 and no other switch is required. The switch didn't fully
work anyways due to https://crbug.com/1231890.

431fff66f5 [traphandler] Add simulator support
This prepares the trap handler to support being used from simulators.
Modifications to the arm64 simulator will be done in a follow-up CL. For
now, the trap handler will be registered but not used in Wasm (we emit
explicit bounds checks instead, as before).

The implementation uses inline assembly, so it is only available on x64
POSIX systems for now. This is the main platform we use for testing and
for fuzzing, so it should give us the test coverage we need. If needed,
inline assembly for other platforms can be added later.
The new code will be executed by the existing arm64 simulator bots, e.g.
"V8 Linux - arm64 - sim".

There's only few testing code required for embedders. Add testing
directly to the regular cppgc target to allow working around an ODR

This unblock Oilpan library builds in Chromium.

92bfb63cac [build] Separate out inspector as a shared library
This makes src/inspector:inspector into a v8_component producing a
shared library in component builds. To enable this, all of its exported
are now marked with V8_INSPECTOR_EXPORT.

This also inverts the dependency between src/inspector:inspector and
:v8_base_without_compiler, and instead makes d8 and some tests depend on
inspector rather than getting it via v8.

As a result, the no_check_targets exclusions list in .gn is reduced.

Ultimately embedders like chromium should depend on :v8 and optionally
src/inspector:inspector, but to allow that transition to occur, this
renames :v8 to :v8_lib and introduces a new :v8 which depends on v8 and
inspector. Once all embedders have changed to reflect the new structure,
this part can be reverted.

071a1acf32 [wasm] Refactor initializer expression handling
Design doc: https://bit.ly/3xPxWUe

This CL introduces two main changes:
- Initializer expressions are now decoded by WasmFullDecoder. With
wasm-gc, initializer expressions are no longer just constants, and
require complex decoding (including stack tracking). This resulted in
  extensive code duplication.
- Initializer expressions are not stored explicitly by module-decoder as
an AST (WasmInitExpr), but rather as a WireBytesRef, and are decoded
again during module instantiation. This should reduce memory
consumption for globals and other module elements with initializer
expressions (which has been observed in the 40MB range in some
  real-world benchmarks.

Summary of changes:
- Add a static parameter {kFunctionBody, kInitExpression} to the
WasmDecoder. Use it to specialize validation to function bodies/init.
  expressions.
- Introduce a new Interface for the WasmFullDecoder for init.
  expressions.
- Differentiate between constant and non-constant opcodes in
  WasmFullDecoder.
- Change representation of init. expressions in WasmModule to
  WireBytesRef.
- Reimplement EvaluateInitExpression in module-instantiate to re-decode
  initializer expressions.
- Remove some now-invalid module decoder tests.

Pending changes:
- Also refactor initializer expressions for element segment entries.
- Reintroduce deleted tests.

9444600b5b [build] Move FunctionTemplateInfo methods out of objects.cc
This moves all of the FunctionTemplateInfo code into templates.cc and
removes the inline keyword from BreakAtEntry which is moved out of
templates-inl.h. As a result templates-inl.h no longer depends on
shared-function-info-inl.h. This in turn uncovered lots of other missing
includes which are now in place.

82b673bcbc Fix counting ignition dispatches
The flag --trace-ignition-dispatches has been broken for a long time,
since it was not designed to work with bytecode handlers that are
generated ahead of time by mksnapshot. This splits the existing
--trace-ignition-dispatches logic into two separate parts:

1. A gn argument which instructs mksnapshot to include dispatch counting
in the bytecode handlers, and ensures that the Interpreter allocates
   the array of counters, and
2. A runtime flag which enables the ignition-statistics extension which
   implements the JS-accessible function getIgnitionDispatchCounters().

dc3f7f81c9 [wasm] Implement EvaluateInitExpression
So far, initializer-expression evaluation was tied to setting global
values. We now need it to operate independently of globals, so that we
can implement new constant expressions like struct.new, which need their
arguments to be computed before they can be initialized.

Changes:
- Move type computation of WasmInitExpr into WasmInitExpr::type.
- Fix WasmInitExpr::type kRttSub case for rtts without depth.
- Introduce InstanceBuilder::EvaluateInitExpression().
- Rename InstanceBuilder::GetRawGlobalPointer() ->
  GetRawUntaggedGlobalPointer().
- Simplify InstanceBuilder::InitGlobals using EvaluateInitExpression().
- Introduce ValueType::is_numeric.
- Add Simd128(byte*) constructor.
- Introduce WasmValue::CopyTo() for numeric types.

This is an initial implementation with a limited set of features and

a0a5aeec7b [wasm] Add PKU flag and alloc/free functions
To enforce W^X for the WebAssembly code space, we want to explore using
Intel memory protection keys for userspace, also known as MPK, PKEYs, or
PKU. Instead of flipping page protection flags with mprotect (which
incurs a high syscall overhead; and which switches flags for the whole
process), with PKU we associate a key with each page once and then
change the permissions of that key with a fast thread-local register
write. That is, this gives both finger-grained permissions (per-thread)
and more performance.

This CL is starts experimenting with PKUs by
(1) adding a flag to turn on prototype PKU support; and if set to true
(2) allocates a protection key once per {WasmCodeManager} in x64 Linux
systems.

This is a partial reland of https://crrev.com/c/2850932, which was
reverted due to an added histogram failing Chromium integration.
Since the histogram (to record PKU support) is independent of the
functionality in this CL, we split it out into its own CL (to come).

c9e82887bd cppgc: Allow ASAN-safe memset in SetMemoryInaccessible()
The application may itself change ASAN poisoning which conflicts with
the memset() right before poisoning memory.

This is relevant for destructors but also when invoking Resize() on an
object that uses ASAN container annotations. Annotations are hard to
adjust for the embedder as it is not clear upfront whether the call will
succeed.

63b7afb470 Reland "[elements] Avoid racy data reads/writes"
This is a reland of 296fa964fe. The fix is
to dynamically check for alignment instead of relying on
{alignof(ElementType)}. I updated the comment to state that independent
of pointer compression we do not guarantee the alignment that the
compiler assumes (hence we rely on undefined behaviour here).

93f85699e2 [debugger] Remove "Restart frame" feature.
The "Restart frame" feature was implemented as part of LiveEdit and
primarily used to support LiveEdit of active functions, but that was
previously disabled as part of https://crrev.com/c/2846892 because it's
too brittle and causes crashes when using seemingly unrelated features.
The "Restart frame" feature was also available as a context menu item
separately in the DevTools front-end, but that was also already removed
as part of https://crrev.com/c/2854681 earlier. So all uses are gone
now.

This change works by marking Debugger.restartFrame as deprecated and
having it respond with a ServerError all the time. It thus allows us to
remove a whole bunch of machinery that was essentially just put in
various places to support the restart_fp_ magic. In particular the
debugger no longer needs any machine specific builtins now.

0b5ec843cc [ptr-cage] Factor CodeRange out of MemoryAllocator and share along with ptr cage
This CL factors out a CodeRange class out of MemoryAllocator.

When V8_COMPRESS_POINTERS_IN_SHARED_CAGE is defined, there is a single
CodeRange shared by all Isolates in the process. This also turns short
builtins back for both configurations of pointer compression. When
sharing a cage, there is a single copy of the re-embedded builtins.

Since a shared pointer cage is still experimental, to avoid API churn
this CodeRange's size is not configurable and is always the maximal size
depending on the underlying platform.

This saves running through the graph and re-maintaining the schedule

ea177a6b4d PPC/s390: Reland "[codegen] Add static interface descriptors"
Port 2871e05cc3

Original Commit Message:

This is a reland of ae0752df1b

    Reland fixes:

      * Remove UNREACHABLE() from constexpr switch, since we don't have a
CONSTEXPR_UNREACHABLE() (it's ok, the switch is exhaustive for the
        enum anyway).
      * Fix IsRegisterArray trait to use public inheritance and size_t for
        std::array size.

    Original change's description:
    > [codegen] Add static interface descriptors
    >
    > Add a new CRTP StaticCallInterfaceDescriptor class, which provides
    > static constexpr getters for a descriptor's registers, parameter counts,
    > and so on. Each CallInterfaceDescriptor subclass is changed to extend
    > StaticCallInterfaceDescriptor, with StaticCallInterfaceDescriptor itself
    > extending CallInterfaceDescriptor to still provide a dynamic lookup
    > where needed.
    >
    > StaticCallInterfaceDescriptor provides a couple of customisation points,
    > where it reads its CRTP derived descriptor's static fields and
    > functions, with default fallbacks where appropriate. With these
    > customisation points, the definition of CallInterfaceDescriptor
    > subclasses is simplified to:
    >
    > a) Providing parameter names (as before)
    > b) Providing parameter types (as before)
    > c) Optionally setting flags (like kNoContext or kAllowVarArgs) as
    > static booleans on the class.
    >     d) Optionally providing a `registers()` method that returns a
    > std::array<Register, N> of registers that may be used for
    > parameters (if not provided, this defaults to the implementation
    > specific default register set).
    >
    > Parameter registers (and register count) are automagically set based on
    > the number of parameters and number of given registers, with extra magic
    > to ignore no_reg registers (to reduce ia32 special casing). The
    > CallInterfaceDescriptorData is initialized based on these static
    > functions, rather than manual per-descriptor initializers.
    >
    > This allows us to skip loading descriptors dynamically for CallBuiltin
    > in Sparkplug, and instead lets us use a bit of template magic to
    > statically set up arguments for the calls. Any other users of statically
    > known descriptors will also benefit, thanks to C++ picking the static
    > methods over the dynamic methods on the base class when available.
    >
    > Because we can remove various virtual functions and trigger heavier
    > inlining of constantly known values, binary size slightly decreases with

2871e05cc3 Reland "[codegen] Add static interface descriptors"
This is a reland of ae0752df1b

Reland fixes:

  * Remove UNREACHABLE() from constexpr switch, since we don't have a
CONSTEXPR_UNREACHABLE() (it's ok, the switch is exhaustive for the
    enum anyway).
  * Fix IsRegisterArray trait to use public inheritance and size_t for
    std::array size.

ae0752df1b [codegen] Add static interface descriptors
Add a new CRTP StaticCallInterfaceDescriptor class, which provides
static constexpr getters for a descriptor's registers, parameter counts,
and so on. Each CallInterfaceDescriptor subclass is changed to extend
StaticCallInterfaceDescriptor, with StaticCallInterfaceDescriptor itself
extending CallInterfaceDescriptor to still provide a dynamic lookup
where needed.

StaticCallInterfaceDescriptor provides a couple of customisation points,
where it reads its CRTP derived descriptor's static fields and
functions, with default fallbacks where appropriate. With these
customisation points, the definition of CallInterfaceDescriptor
subclasses is simplified to:

    a) Providing parameter names (as before)
    b) Providing parameter types (as before)
    c) Optionally setting flags (like kNoContext or kAllowVarArgs) as
       static booleans on the class.
    d) Optionally providing a `registers()` method that returns a
std::array<Register, N> of registers that may be used for
parameters (if not provided, this defaults to the implementation
       specific default register set).

Because we can remove various virtual functions and trigger heavier
inlining of constantly known values, binary size slightly decreases with
this change.

Note that torque-generated descriptors are changed to use the same magic,
rather than having Torque-specific magic, for consistency.

3ada6f2740 [ptr-cage] Introduce PtrComprCage
The pointer compression cage is the virtual memory reservation
that all compressed pointers fall within. This CL splits pointer
compression into two modes: a per-Isolate cage and a shared cage
among multiple Isolates.

When multiple Isolates are sharing a cage, they can decompress
each others' pointers and share the same virtual memory range.

5e0b94c4dc Allowing map word to be used for other state in GC header.
This CL adds features to pack/unpack map words.

Currently V8 cannot store extra metadata in object headers -- because V8
objects do not have a proper header, but only a map pointer at the start
of the object. To store per-object metadata like marking data, a side
table is required as the per-object metadata storage.

This CL enables V8 to use higher unused bits in a 64-bit map word as
per-object metadata storage. Map pointer stores come with an extra step
to encode the metadata into the pointer (we call it "map packing").
Map pointer loads will also remove the metadata bits as well (we call it
"map packing").

Since the map word is no longer a valid pointer after packing, we also
change the tag of the packed map word to make it looks like a Smi. This
helps various GC and barrier code to correctly skip them instead of
blindly dereferencing this invalid pointer.

A ninja flag `v8_enable_map_packing` is provided to turn this
map-packing feature on and off. It is disabled by default.

* Only works on x64 platform, with `v8_enable_pointer_compression`
  set to `false`

e28dadc207 [ptr-cage] Rename IsolateRoot to PtrComprCageBase
Currently, IsolateRoot is both the address of the Isolate root and the
base address of the pointer compression reservation. This CL teases the
two uses apart by renaming IsolateRoot to PtrComprCageBase.

- In addition to V8_COMPRESS_POINTERS, add a
  V8_COMPRESS_POINTERS_IN_ISOLATE_CAGE (vs SHARED_CAGE).

- Rename GetIsolate* helpers to GetPtrComprCageBase. When
V8_COMPRESS_POINTERS_IN_ISOLATE_CAGE is true, the helpers remain as
  aliases to GetPtrComprCageBase.

- Rename kPtrComprIsolateRootAlignment to kPtrComprCageBaseAlignment.

f0061332ef [diagnostics] Enable ETW stack-walking events build flag
Feedback from Microsoft partners indicates that it would be beneficial
to enable ETW stack-walking events by default.

This is difficult, because the --interpreted-frames-native-stack flag
comes with a significant perf degradation. Ideally, we would turn
this flag on dynamically, only when a ETW recorder is actively
triggering the provider. Unfortunately, the flag in its current state
cannot be enabled dynamically.

In light of this, we have decided to only flip the build flag.

51140a4409 [dict-proto] Rename v8_dict_mode_prototypes flag
The build time flag v8_dict_mode_prototypes is ill-named, because it
does not control whether properties are kept in dictionary mode (this
is done by the v8_dict_property_const_tracking flag), but instead it
controls if SwissNameDictionary or NameDictionary is used as the
property backing store for all dictionary mode objects.

This CL renames the flag and updates its description.

This CL provides the minimum necessary functionality to expose fast API

a d8.test.fast_c_api with an `add_all` method, which exercises primitive
types. On x64, all integer and floating point types are supported. On

ec0094b478 [ia32][x64] Create SharedTurboAssembler
SharedTurboAssembler is shared between ia32 and x64. It contains shared
functionality between these two backends. It derives from
TurboAssemblerBase, and the backend-specific TurboAssembler derives from
SharedTurboAssembler. That way, LiftoffAssembler does not need to
change.

As an example, we move a single member function I64x2SConvertI32x4High
into SharedTurboAssembler. This function has the exact same
implementation on ia32 and x64, and is now defined in a single place.

534431aad9 [dict-proto] CSA/Torque implementation of SwissNameDictionary, pt. 1
This CL adds
a) swiss-hash-table-helpers.tq, which contains Torque counterparts
for the C++ code in swiss-hash-table-helpers.h.

b) various helpers required for that, including adding several CSA
   integer operations to base.tq.

5618ef1fdc [sparkplug][x64][arm64] Support shorter builtin calls, pt.1
This is a speed-for-memory tradeoff, which can be achieved by
re-mapping the builtins code blob into existing code range.

The feature can be enabled by v8_enable_short_builtin_calls flag and
it's off by default.

This CL adds GN flag and updates code generator to emit shorter
pc-relative calls/jumps to builtins. However, the runtime doesn't
support appearance of the off-heap builtins' PCs that point to the
embedded code blob on the stack yet.

26d85acee2 [base] Use IMMEDIATE_CRASH on official build FATAL errors.
Release-official builds strip error messages from CHECK messages.
This can make it difficult to distinguish a CHECK crash location in
crash reports. As such, instead of using V8_FatalNoContext, import the
IMMEDIATE_CRASH macro from chromium and use that instead, which should
cause a crash directly in the instruction stream so that the top
stackframe on the crash report directly identifies the CHECK location
that failed.

ad0e581c48 [torque] Add option for printing Torque IR
While working on the Torque compiler, I've sometimes found it difficult
to understand Torque's intermediate representation and how it
corresponds to the output. In this change, I propose adding a build flag
that instructs Torque to emit comments describing its IR, interspersed
in the generated code. This is particularly useful for seeing the stack
management instructions (Peek, Poke, and DeleteRange) which don't emit
any corresponding C++ code.

80f5dfda01 [no-wasm] Exclude src/wasm from compilation
This is the biggest chunk, including

- wasm runtime functions,
- int64 lowering,
- simd scala lowering,

- wasm frame types,
- wasm interrupts,
- the JSWasmCall opcode,
- wasm backing store allocation.

Those components are all recursively entangled, so I found no way to
split this change up further.

Some includes that were recursively included by wasm headers needed to
be added explicitly now.

backing-store-unittest.cc is renamed to wasm-backing-store-unittest.cc
because it only tests wasm backing stores. This file is excluded from
no-wasm builds then.

4e0ac2ed13 [no-wasm] Remove wasm-js
This CL removes wasm-js.cc from compilation if
v8_enable_webassembly=false. In order to do so, an alternative
implementation of {v8::WasmStreaming} has to be provided, because the
public API should stay unchanged. The only path to obtain a
{v8::WasmStreaming} object is via {v8::WasmStreaming::Unpack}, which
will always fail if WebAssembly is not supported. Hence all methods in
{WasmStreamingImpl} are unreachable.

As a drive-by, this CL removes all includes from src/wasm in src/init
(bootstrapper.cc would have been done anyway, and v8.cc is just a few
 changes).

a8b61ef521 [sparkplug] Change bytecode offset mapping and introduce iterator.
Previously, we recorded pairs of (bytecode offset, sparkplug pc) to
create a mapping of bytecode offset <-> sparkplug pc.
These pairs were only recorded after builtin/runtime calls.
In preparation for deoptimizing to Sparkplug, we need a more precise
mapping.
With this CL, we record positions for every bytecode. Instead of storing
a pair of (bytecode offset, sparkplug pc), we store only the pc,
calculating the bytecode offset from the index in the mapping table.
For easier use an iterator to access the mapping is introduced.

Drive-by: Reduce sampling interval in cpu-profiler cctest to get rid of
flaky failures.

8892676978 Step 2 (of 2) for ETW integration into V8
Design doc:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1xkXj94iExFgLWc_OszTNyNGi523ARaKMWPZTeomhI4U

This is the second (and hopefully final!) change list needed to
integrate ETW into V8. In particular, we added stack-walking
functionality for JIT-ted functions!

Some notes on instrumentation:
  - The gist of getting stack-walking in ETW is we need to emit events
with specific event IDs. These events get stitched into a pseudo-PDB
    that is recognizable by ETW.
  - Unfortunately, we cannot rely on the TraceLogging API from the first
CL, as it does not support specifying event IDs. Instead, Bill
Ticehurst wrote an API that peels back the TraceLogging API just
enough so that we can specify event IDs. This API is the entirety of
    etw-metdata.h
  - We attach a CodeEventHandler that logs a stack-walking event whenever
    code movement is triggered.

64ca87d8f9 [build] Add cppgc_headers dep to v8_headers
To fix 6 gn check errors, this adds a cppgc_headers dep to v8_headers.
To resolve the resulting cycle, it also changes v8_libplatform to depend
on v8_config_headers since it only needs v8config.h.
