This patch obsoletes the pow10, pow10f and pow10l functions (makes
them into compat symbols, not available for new ports or static
linking). The exp10 names for these functions are standardized (in TS
18661-4) and were added in the same glibc version (2.1) as pow10 so
source code can change to use them without any loss of portability.
Since pow10 is deliberately not provided for _Float128, only exp10,
this slightly simplifies moving to the new wrapper templates in the
!LIBM_SVID_COMPAT case, by avoiding needing to arrange for pow10,
pow10f and pow10l to be defined by those templates.

This patch completes the ucontext.h namespace fixes by fixing issues
related to the use of struct sigcontext as mcontext_t, and inclusion
of <bits/sigcontext.h> even when struct sigcontext is not so used.
Inclusion of <bits/sigcontext.h> by <sys/ucontext.h> is removed; the
way to get the sigcontext structure is by including <signal.h> (in a
context where __USE_MISC is defined); the sysdeps/generic version of
sys/ucontext.h keeps the inclusion by necessity, with a comment about
how this is not namespace-clean, but the only configuration that used
it, MicroBlaze, gets its own version of the header in this patch.
Where mcontext_t was typedefed to struct sigcontext, the contents of
struct sigcontext are inserted (with appropriate namespace handling to
prefix fields with __ when __USE_MISC is not defined); review should
check that this has been done correctly in each case, whether the
definition of struct sigcontext comes from glibc headers or from the
Linux kernel. This changes C++ name mangling on affected
architectures (which do not include x86_64/x86).
Tested for x86_64, and with build-many-glibcs.py.

The standard members of ucontext_t, in all standard versions with that
type, are uc_link, uc_sigmask, uc_stack and uc_mcontext.
The uc_* namespace is mostly reserved for additions to the structure.
However, in XPG4.2, it's only reserved when <ucontext.h> is included,
not when <signal.h> is included, while <signal.h> is required to
define ucontext_t (but not allowed to make visible other symbols from
<ucontext.h>). Thus, nonstandard members should avoid uc_* names.
Some already do use __uc_*, but others don't; most architectures (all
except ia64, I think) have a member uc_flags and some have additional
members beyond that.
This patch makes nonstandard members have an __ prefix unless
__USE_MISC is defined. Members whose names indicate they are solely
padding / reserved for future use are renamed unconditionally to use
the __glibc_reserved1 naming convention.
This is part of the preparation for a revised version of the
mcontext_t / sigcontext patch to be able to eliminate all 13 of the
miscellaneous XFAILs in conform/Makefile, rather than only 11 of them
as at present (at least one further fix on top of this one will be
needed for that as well).
Tested for x86_64, and with build-many-glibcs.py.

There is bug report that ld.so in GLIBC 2.24 built by Binutils 2.29 will crash
on arm-linux-gnueabihf. This is confirmed, and the details is at:
https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=21725.
As analyzed in the PR, the old code was with the assumption that assembler
won't set bit0 of thumb function address if it comes from PC-relative
instructions and the calculation can be finished during assembling. This
assumption however does not hold after PR gas/21458.
* sysdeps/arm/dl-machine.h (elf_machine_load_address): Also strip bit 0
of pcrel_address under Thumb mode.
This patch provides an optimised implementation of memchr using NEON
instructions to improve its performance, especially with longer search regions.
This gave an improvement in performance against the Thumb2+DSP optimised code,
with more significant gains for larger inputs. The NEON code also wins in cases
where the input is small (less than 8 bytes) by defaulting to a simple
byte-by-byte search. This avoids the overhead imposed by filling two quadword
registers from memory.
* sysdeps/arm/armv7/multiarch/Makefile: Add memchr_neon to
sysdep_routines.
* sysdeps/arm/armv7/multiarch/ifunc-impl-list.c: Add define for

full toolchain bootstrap. Benchmark tests were ran on ARMv7-A and ARMv8-A
hardware targets.
The ucontext_t type has a tag struct ucontext. As with previous such
issues for siginfo_t and stack_t, this tag is not permitted by POSIX
(is not in a reserved namespace), and so namespace conformance means
breaking C++ name mangling for this type.
In this case, the type does need to have some tag rather than just a
typedef name, because it includes a pointer to itself. This patch
uses struct ucontext_t as the new tag, so the type is mangled as
ucontext_t (the POSIX *_t reservation applies in all namespaces, not
just the namespace of ordinary identifiers). Another reserved name
such as struct __ucontext could of course be used.
Because of other namespace issues, this patch does not by itself fix
bug 21457 or allow any XFAILs to be removed.
Tested for x86_64, and with build-many-glibcs.py.

ELFv2 functions with localentry:0 are those with a single entry point,
ie. global entry == local entry, that have no requirement on r2 or
r12 and guarantee r2 is unchanged on return. Such an external
function can be called via the PLT without saving r2 or restoring it
on return, avoiding a common load-hit-store for small functions.
This patch implements the ld.so changes necessary for this
optimization. ld.so needs to check that an optimized plt call
sequence is in fact calling a function implemented with localentry:0,
end emit a fatal error otherwise.
The elf/testobj6.c change is to stop "error while loading shared
libraries: expected localentry:0 `preload'" when running
elf/preloadtest, which we'd get otherwise.

This patch optimizes the generic spinlock code.
The type pthread_spinlock_t is a typedef to volatile int on all archs.
Passing a volatile pointer to the atomic macros which are not mapped to the
C11 atomic builtins can lead to extra stores and loads to stack if such
a macro creates a temporary variable by using "__typeof (*(mem)) tmp;".
Thus, those macros which are used by spinlock code - atomic_exchange_acquire,
atomic_load_relaxed, atomic_compare_exchange_weak - have to be adjusted.
According to the comment from Szabolcs Nagy, the type of a cast expression is
unqualified (see http://www.open-std.org/jtc1/sc22/wg14/www/docs/dr_423.htm):
__typeof ((__typeof (*(mem)) *(mem)) tmp;
Thus from spinlock perspective the variable tmp is of type int instead of
type volatile int. This patch adjusts those macros in include/atomic.h.
With this construct GCC >= 5 omits the extra stores and loads.
The atomic macros are replaced by the C11 like atomic macros and thus
the code is aligned to it. The pthread_spin_unlock implementation is now
using release memory order instead of sequentially consistent memory order.
The issue with passed volatile int pointers applies to the C11 like atomic
macros as well as the ones used before.
I've added a glibc_likely hint to the first atomic exchange in
pthread_spin_lock in order to return immediately to the caller if the lock is
free. Without the hint, there is an additional jump if the lock is free.
I've added the atomic_spin_nop macro within the loop of plain reads.
The plain reads are also realized by C11 like atomic_load_relaxed macro.
The new define ATOMIC_EXCHANGE_USES_CAS determines if the first try to acquire
the spinlock in pthread_spin_lock or pthread_spin_trylock is an exchange
or a CAS. This is defined in atomic-machine.h for all architectures.
The define SPIN_LOCK_READS_BETWEEN_CMPXCHG is now removed.
There is no technical reason for throwing in a CAS every now and then,
and so far we have no evidence that it can improve performance.
If that would be the case, we have to adjust other spin-waiting loops
elsewhere, too! Using a CAS loop without plain reads is not a good idea
on many targets and wasn't used by one. Thus there is now no option to
do so.
Architectures are now using the generic spinlock automatically if they
do not provide an own implementation. Thus the pthread_spin_lock.c files
in sysdeps folder are deleted.

Continuing the fixes for namespace issues in sys/ucontext.h, this
patch moves various symbols into the implementation namespace in the
absence of __USE_MISC. As with previous changes, it is nonexhaustive,
just covering more straightforward cases.
Structure fields are generally changed to have a prefix __ in the
absence of __USE_MISC, via a macro __ctx (used without a space before
the open parenthesis, since the result is a single identifier).
Various macros such as NGREG also have leading __ added. No changes
are made to structure tags (and thus to C++ name mangling), except
that in the (unused) file sysdeps/i386/sys/ucontext.h, structures
defined inside other structures as the type for a field have their
tags removed in the non-__USE_MISC case (those structure tags would
not in any case have been visible in C++, because in C++ the scope of
such a tag is limited to the containing structure). No changes are
made to the contents of bits/sigcontext.h, or to whether it is
included. Because of remaining namespace issues, this patch does not
yet fix the bug or allow any XFAILs to be removed.
Tested for x86_64 and x86, and with build-many-glibcs.py.

The various sys/ucontext.h headers include <signal.h> and all the
headers split out of <bits/sigstack.h>. (Except that the powerpc
version does not include <signal.h>.)
None of the standard versions defining ucontext.h require or permit
such inclusions; rather, they all say that the stack_t and sigset_t
types from signal.h are defined. This patch fixes the headers to
include just the bits/ headers for those types (and the existing
includes of bits/sigcontext.h). Since bits/types/sigset_t.h is now
being included instead of bits/types/__sigset_t.h, __sigset_t uses in
the headers are replaced by direct use of the public sigset_t type.
sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/x86/bits/sigcontext.h was relying on the prior
inclusion of <signal.h> to define types such as __uint32_t, so gets a
bits/types.h include added to provide those types.
Although one could keep some or all of the includes under a __USE_MISC
conditional, that seems unnecessary to me, especially given the lack
of a <signal.h> include in the powerpc version meaning that portable
programs already cannot rely on such an include.
Tested for x86_64 and x86, and with build-many-glibcs.py. As with
other such fixes, more namespace issues remain so this does not permit
any XFAILs to be removed or bugs to be closed.

The types affected are __sig_atomic_t, sig_atomic_t, __sigset_t,
sigset_t, sigval_t, sigevent_t, and siginfo_t. __sig_atomic_t is a
scalar, so it's now directly available from bits/types.h. The others
get bits/types/ headers.
Side effects include: There have been small changes to which
non-signal headers expose which subset of the signal-related types.
A couple of architectures' nested siginfo_t fields had to be renamed
to prevent undesired macro expansion. Internal code that wants to
manipulate signal masks must now include <sigsetops.h> (which is not
installed) and should be aware that __sigaddset, __sigandset,
__sigdelset, __sigemptyset, and __sigorset no longer return a value
(unlike the public API). Relatedly, the public signal.h no longer
declares any of those functions. The obsolete sigmask() macro no
longer has a system-specific definition -- in the cases where it
matters, it didn't work anyway.
New Linux architectures should create bits/siginfo-arch.h and/or
bits/siginfo-consts-arch.h to customize their siginfo_t, rather than
duplicating everything in bits/siginfo.h (which no longer exists).
Add new __SI_* macros if necessary. Ports to other operating systems
are strongly encouraged to generalize this scheme further.

The NaCl port has not been actively maintained since before the 2.25

and we are given to understand that the current NaCl SDK has switched
to Clang and therefore cannot be used to build glibc anymore, so we
doubt that the port remains useful.

bits/sigstack.h contains four things: the legacy struct sigstack type,
the preferred stack_t type, the SS_* enum values and macros for signal
stack sizes.
These vary in different ways between glibc configurations; in
particular, the stack sizes vary much more than any of the other
pieces. Furthermore, these pieces have different standard namespace
rules for when they should be visible (not currently visible in
conform/ results both because the relevant tests are XFAILed for
sys/ucontext.h namespace issues, and because some of the expectations
are incorrect in the same way as the headers, e.g. neither
expectations nor headers reflect that current POSIX no longer has
either the sigstack function or the sigstack structure).
To reduce duplication of identical definitions, and facilitate
namespace fixes without requiring the same feature test macro
conditions to be repeated in many versions of the same header, this
patch splits bits/sigstack.h up into four headers. It keeps the stack
size macros, while new bits/types/struct_sigstack.h,
bits/types/stack_t.h and bits/ss_flags.h are added for the other
pieces. bits/types/struct_sigstack.h is the same everywhere,
bits/types/stack_t.h has three variants different in the order of the
structure elements (generic = MIPS Linux, and other Linux), and
bits/ss_flags.h has generic and Linux variants.
This patch includes the new headers everywhere that included
<bits/sigstack.h>, so should cause no difference to what any public
header defines. Subsequent namespace fixes would then remove or
condition some of those includes.
There should be no conflicts with Zack's changes to signal.h types,
beyond the trivial conflict of both making additions to
signal/Makefile's headers list; the two patches affect disjoint sets
of types and other definitions.

organization is as follow:
* Architecture specific definition (such as pthread types sizes) are
place in the new pthreadtypes-arch.h header in arch specific path.
* All shared structure definition are moved to a common NPTL header
at sysdeps/nptl/bits/pthreadtypes.h (with now includes the arch
specific one for internal definitions).
* Also, for C11 future thread support, both mutex and condition
definition are placed in a common header at

Bug 21047 reports that the clang assembler disallows the ARM
implementations of _FPU_GETCW and _FPU_SETCW.
These are deliberately written the way they are, using generic
coprocessor instructions (from the days when VFP was just one possible
coprocessor for ARM) that have the right encodings, to handle the case
of the instructions being used runtime-conditionally inside glibc,
where use of these macros is not meant to result in either the
assembler requiring VFP to be enabled at assembly time or in it
marking the object as using VFP. However, more recent ARM ARM
versions have restricted the definitions of the coprocessor
instructions and reportedly the clang assembler follows that in
disallowing those names for VFP instructions.
In the non-__SOFTFP__ case - which in fact is the only case where
these macro definitions can be used outside the build of glibc itself
- using VFP instruction names is of course fine, since we know that
VFP is enabled for that compilation. Thus, this patch uses the
current VFP names for these instructions in that case to improve
compatibility for this header file.
Tested for hard-float and soft-float builds of glibc, including that
installed stripped shared libraries are unchanged by the patch.

This is a new implementation for condition variables, required
after http://austingroupbugs.net/view.php?id=609 to fix bug 13165. In
essence, we need to be stricter in which waiters a signal or broadcast
is required to wake up; this couldn't be solved using the old algorithm.
ISO C++ made a similar clarification, so this also fixes a bug in
current libstdc++, for example.
We can't use the old algorithm anymore because futexes do not guarantee
to wake in FIFO order. Thus, when we wake, we can't simply let any
waiter grab a signal, but we need to ensure that one of the waiters
happening before the signal is woken up. This is something the previous
algorithm violated (see bug 13165).
There's another issue specific to condvars: ABA issues on the underlying
futexes. Unlike mutexes that have just three states, or semaphores that
have no tokens or a limited number of them, the state of a condvar is
the *order* of the waiters. A waiter on a semaphore can grab a token
whenever one is available; a condvar waiter must only consume a signal
if it is eligible to do so as determined by the relative order of the
waiter and the signal.
Therefore, this new algorithm maintains two groups of waiters: Those
eligible to consume signals (G1), and those that have to wait until
previous waiters have consumed signals (G2). Once G1 is empty, G2
becomes the new G1. 64b counters are used to avoid ABA issues.
This condvar doesn't yet use a requeue optimization (ie, on a broadcast,
waking just one thread and requeueing all others on the futex of the
mutex supplied by the program). I don't think doing the requeue is
necessarily the right approach (but I haven't done real measurements
yet):
* If a program expects to wake many threads at the same time and make
that scalable, a condvar isn't great anyway because of how it requires
waiters to operate mutually exclusive (due to the mutex usage). Thus, a
thundering herd problem is a scalability problem with or without the
optimization. Using something like a semaphore might be more
appropriate in such a case.
* The scalability problem is actually at the mutex side; the condvar
could help (and it tries to with the requeue optimization), but it
should be the mutex who decides how that is done, and whether it is done
at all.
* Forcing all but one waiter into the kernel-side wait queue of the
mutex prevents/avoids the use of lock elision on the mutex. Thus, it
prevents the only cure against the underlying scalability problem
inherent to condvars.
* If condvars use short critical sections (ie, hold the mutex just to
check a binary flag or such), which they should do ideally, then forcing
all those waiter to proceed serially with kernel-based hand-off (ie,
futex ops in the mutex' contended state, via the futex wait queues) will
be less efficient than just letting a scalable mutex implementation take
care of it. Our current mutex impl doesn't employ spinning at all, but
if critical sections are short, spinning can be much better.
* Doing the requeue stuff requires all waiters to always drive the mutex
into the contended state. This leads to each waiter having to call
futex_wake after lock release, even if this wouldn't be necessary.

explicit_bzero(s, n) is the same as memset(s, 0, n), except that the
compiler is not allowed to delete a call to explicit_bzero even if the
memory pointed to by 's' is dead after the call. Right now, this effect
is achieved externally by having explicit_bzero be a function whose
semantics are unknown to the compiler, and internally, with a no-op
asm statement that clobbers memory. This does mean that small
explicit_bzero operations cannot be expanded inline as small memset
operations can, but on the other hand, small memset operations do get
deleted by the compiler. Hopefully full compiler support for
explicit_bzero will happen relatively soon.
There are two new tests: test-explicit_bzero.c verifies the
visible semantics in the same way as the existing test-bzero.c,
and tst-xbzero-opt.c verifies the not-being-optimized-out property.
The latter is conceptually based on a test written by Matthew Dempsky
for the OpenBSD regression suite.
The crypt() implementation has an immediate use for this new feature.
We avoid having to add a GLIBC_PRIVATE alias for explicit_bzero
by running all of libcrypt's calls through the fortified variant,
__explicit_bzero_chk, which is in the impl namespace anyway. Currently
I'm not aware of anything in libc proper that needs this, but the
glue is all in place if it does become necessary. The legacy DES
implementation wasn't bothering to clear its buffers, so I added that,
mostly for consistency's sake.

Continuing the refactoring of bits/mathdef.h, this patch moves the
FP_FAST_* definitions into a new bits/fp-fast.h header. Currently
this is only for FP_FAST_FMA*, but in future it would be the
appropriate place for the FP_FAST_* macros from TS 18661-1 as well.
The generic bits/mathdef.h header defines these macros based on
whether the compiler defines __FP_FAST_*. Most architecture-specific
headers, however, fail to do so, meaning that if the architecture (or
some particular processors) does in fact have fused operations, and
GCC knows to use them inline, the FP_FAST_* macros will still not be
defined.
By refactoring, this patch causes the generic version (based on
__FP_FAST_*) to be used in more cases, and so the macro definitions to
be more accurate. Architectures that already defined some or all of
these macros other than based on the predefines have their own
versions of fp-fast.h, which are arranged so they define FP_FAST_* if
either the architecture-specific conditions are true or __FP_FAST_*
are defined.
After this refactoring, various bits/mathdef.h headers for
architectures with long double = double are semantically identical to
the generic version. The patch removes those headers that are
redundant. (In fact two of the four removed were already redundant
before this patch because they did use __FP_FAST_*.)

This patch remove the PID cache and usage in current GLIBC code. Current
usage is mainly used a performance optimization to avoid the syscall,
however it adds some issues:
- The exposed clone syscall will try to set pid/tid to make the new
thread somewhat compatible with current GLIBC assumptions. This cause
a set of issue with new workloads and usecases (such as BZ#17214 and
[1]) as well for new internal usage of clone to optimize other algorithms
(such as clone plus CLONE_VM for posix_spawn, BZ#19957).
- The caching complexity also added some bugs in the past [2] [3] and
requires more effort of each port to handle such requirements (for
both clone and vfork implementation).
- Caching performance gain in mainly on getpid and some specific
code paths. The getpid performance leverage is questionable [4],
either by the idea of getpid being a hotspot as for the getpid
implementation itself (if it is indeed a justifiable hotspot a
vDSO symbol could let to a much more simpler solution).
Other usage is mainly for non usual code paths, such as pthread
cancellation signal and handling.
For thread creation (on stack allocation) the code simplification in fact
adds some performance gain due the no need of transverse the stack cache
and invalidate each element pid.
Other thread usages will require a direct getpid syscall, such as
cancellation/setxid signal, thread cancellation, thread fail path (at
create_thread), and thread signal (pthread_kill and pthread_sigqueue).
However these are hardly usual hotspots and I think adding a syscall is
justifiable.
It also simplifies both the clone and vfork arch-specific implementation.
And by review each fork implementation there are some discrepancies that
this patch also solves:
- microblaze clone/vfork does not set/reset the pid/tid field
- hppa uses the default vfork implementation that fallback to fork.
Since vfork is deprecated I do not think we should bother with it.
The patch also removes the TID caching in clone. My understanding for
such semantic is try provide some pthread usage after a user program
issue clone directly (as done by thread creation with CLONE_PARENT_SETTID
and pthread tid member). However, as stated before in multiple discussions
threads, GLIBC provides clone syscalls without further supporting all this
semantics.
I ran a full make check on x86_64, x32, i686, armhf, aarch64, and powerpc64le.
For sparc32, sparc64, and mips I ran the basic fork and vfork tests from
posix/ folder (on a qemu system). So it would require further testing
on alpha, hppa, ia64, m68k, nios2, s390, sh, and tile (I excluded microblaze
because it is already implementing the patch semantic regarding clone/vfork).

At present, definitions of float_t and double_t are split among many
bits/mathdef.h headers.
For all but three architectures, these types are float and double.
Furthermore, if you assume __FLT_EVAL_METHOD__ to be defined, that
provides a more generic way of determining the correct values of these
typedefs. Defining these typedefs more generally based on
__FLT_EVAL_METHOD__ was previously proposed by Paul Eggert in
<https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2012-02/msg00002.html>.
This patch refactors things in the way I proposed in
<https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2016-11/msg00745.html>. A new
header bits/flt-eval-method.h defines a single macro,
__GLIBC_FLT_EVAL_METHOD, which is then used by math.h to define
float_t and double_t. The default is based on __FLT_EVAL_METHOD__
(although actually a default to 0 would have the same effect for
current ports, because ports where values other than 0 or 16 are
possible all have their own headers).
To avoid changing the existing semantics in any case, including for
compilers not defining __FLT_EVAL_METHOD__, architecture-specific
files are then added for m68k, s390, x86 which replicate the existing
semantics. At least with __FLT_EVAL_METHOD__ values possible with
GCC, there should be no change to the choices of float_t and double_t
for any supported configuration.
Architecture maintainer notes:
* m68k: sysdeps/m68k/m680x0/bits/flt-eval-method.h always defines
__GLIBC_FLT_EVAL_METHOD to 2 to replicate the existing logic. But
actually GCC defines __FLT_EVAL_METHOD__ to 0 if TARGET_68040. It
might make sense to make the header prefer to base things on
__FLT_EVAL_METHOD__ if defined, like the x86 version, and so make
the choices of these types more accurate (with a NEWS entry as for
the other changes to these types on particular architectures).
* s390: sysdeps/s390/bits/flt-eval-method.h always defines
__GLIBC_FLT_EVAL_METHOD to 1 to replicate the existing logic. As
previously discussed, it might make sense in coordination with GCC
to eliminate the historic mistake, avoid excess precision in the
-fexcess-precision=standard case and make the typedefs match (with a
NEWS entry, again).
Tested for x86-64 and x86. Also did compilation-only testing with
build-many-glibcs.py.

manual/libm-err-tab.pl hardcodes a list of names for particular
platforms (mapping from sysdeps directory name to friendly name for
the manual). This goes against the principle of keeping information
about individual platforms in their corresponding sysdeps directory,
and the list is also very out-of-date regarding supported platforms
and their corresponding sysdeps directories.
This patch fixes this by adding a libm-test-ulps-name file alongside
each libm-test-ulps file. The script then gets the friendly name from
that file, which is required to exist, so it no longer needs to allow
for the mapping being missing.
Tested for x86_64.

ISO/IEC TS 18661-1 adds several functions in the strfrom family to stdlib.
This patch adds strfromd, strfromf, and strfroml. This is being done in
preparation for the new floating-point type, float128. The added functions
convert a floating-point value into a string, with configurable format.
This patch makes ARM sqrt and sqrtf use the VSQRT VFP square root
instruction when available, instead of much larger generic code for
computing square roots.
Now, GCC will normally inline sqrt calls except for negative arguments
where errno needs to be set, and because the benchtests fail to use
-fno-builtin that means no significant difference in benchmark results
for sqrt (note, however, there are lots of __ieee754_sqrt calls
internally in libm, which are *not* inlined - although some
architectures define __ieee754_sqrt in their math_private.h for that
purpose, ARM doesn't - so improving out-of-line sqrt performance is
still relevant to those other functions, if not for most ordinary
direct users of sqrt). With the benchtests changed to use
-fno-builtin for sqrt tests, typical performance results before the
change are ("max" is wildly varying in any case):

This adds a test to ensure that the problems fixed in the last several
patches do not recur. Each directory checks the headers that it
installs for two properties: first, each header must be compilable in
isolation, as both C and C++, under a representative combination of
language and library conformance levels; second, there is a blacklist
of identifiers that may not appear in any installed header, currently
consisting of the legacy BSD typedefs. (There is an exemption for the
headers that define those typedefs, and for the RPC headers. It may be
necessary to make this more sophisticated if we add more stuff to the
blacklist in the future.)
In order for this test to work correctly, every wrapper header
that actually defines something must guard those definitions with
#ifndef _ISOMAC. This is the existing mechanism used by the conform/
tests to tell wrapper headers not to define anything that the public
header wouldn't, and not to use anything from libc-symbols.h. conform/
only cares for headers that we need to check for standards conformance,
whereas this test applies to *every* header. (Headers in include/ that
are either installed directly, or are internal-use-only and do *not*
correspond to any installed header, are not affected.)

sys/ucontext.h unconditionally uses stack_t, and it does not make
sense to change that. But signal.h only declares stack_t under
__USE_XOPEN_EXTENDED || __USE_XOPEN2K8. The actual definition is
already in a bits header, bits/sigstack.h, but that header insists on
only being included by signal.h, so we have to change that as well as
all of the sys/ucontext.h variants. (Some but not all variants of
bits/sigcontext.h, which sys/ucontext.h may also need, had already
received this adjustment; for consistency, I made them all the same,
even if that's not strictly necessary in some configurations.)
bits/sigcontext.h and bits/sigstack.h also all need to receive
multiple inclusion guards.

TS 18661-1 defines a type femode_t to represent the set of dynamic
floating-point control modes (such as the rounding mode and trap
enablement modes), and functions fegetmode and fesetmode to manipulate
those modes (without affecting other state such as the raised
exception flags) and a corresponding macro FE_DFL_MODE.
This patch series implements those interfaces for glibc. This first
patch adds the architecture-independent pieces, the x86 and x86_64
implementations, and the <bits/fenv.h> and ABI baseline updates for
all architectures so glibc keeps building and passing the ABI tests on
all architectures. Subsequent patches add the fegetmode and fesetmode
implementations for other architectures.
femode_t is generally an integer type - the same type as fenv_t, or as
the single element of fenv_t where fenv_t is a structure containing a
single integer (or the single relevant element, where it has elements
for both status and control registers) - except where architecture
properties or consistency with the fenv_t implementation indicate
otherwise. FE_DFL_MODE follows FE_DFL_ENV in whether it's a magic
pointer value (-1 cast to const femode_t *), a value that can be
distinguished from valid pointers by its high bits but otherwise
contains a representation of the desired register contents, or a
pointer to a constant variable (the powerpc case; __fe_dfl_mode is
added as an exported constant object, an alias to __fe_dfl_env).
Note that where architectures (that share a register between control
and status bits) gain definitions of new floating-point control or
status bits in future, the implementations of fesetmode for those
architectures may need updating (depending on whether the new bits are
control or status bits and what the implementation does with
previously unknown bits), just like existing implementations of
<fenv.h> functions that take care not to touch reserved bits may need
updating when the set of reserved bits changes. (As any new bits are
outside the scope of ISO C, that's just a quality-of-implementation
issue for supporting them, not a conformance issue.)
As with fenv_t, femode_t should properly include any software DFP
rounding mode (and for both fenv_t and femode_t I'd consider that
fragment of DFP support appropriate for inclusion in glibc even in the
absence of the rest of libdfp; hardware DFP rounding modes should
already be included if the definitions of which bits are status /
control bits are correct).
Tested for x86_64, x86, mips64 (hard float, and soft float to test the
fallback version), arm (hard float) and powerpc (hard float, soft
float and e500). Other architecture versions are untested.

Presently sys/sysmacros.h is entirely defined in sysdeps. This would
mean that the deprecation logic coming up in the next patch would have
to be written twice (in generic/ and unix/sysv/linux/). To avoid that,
hoist all but the unavoidably system-dependent logic to misc/, leaving a
bits/ header behind. This also promotes the Linux-specific encoding of
dev_t, which accommodates 32-bit major and minor numbers in a 64-bit dev_t,
to generic, as glibc's dev_t is always 64 bits wide.
The former Linux implementation used inline functions to avoid evaluating
arguments more than once. After this change, all platforms use inline
functions, which means that three new symbols are added to the generic ABI.
(These symbols are in the user namespace, which is how they have always
been on Linux. They begin with "gnu_dev_", so collisions with user code
are pretty unlikely.)
New ports henceforth need only provide a bits/sysmacros.h defining
internal macros __SYSMACROS_{DECLARE,DEFINE}_{MAJOR,MINOR,MAKEDEV}.
This is only necessary if the kernel encoding is incompatible with
the now-generic encoding (for instance, it would be necessary for
FreeBSD).
While I was at it, I added a basic round-trip test for these functions.
* sysdeps/generic/sys/sysmacros.h: Delete file.
* sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/makedev.c: Delete file.
* sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/sys/sysmacros.h: Move file ...

encoding. Now defines only the following macros:
__SYSMACROS_DECLARE_MAJOR, __SYSMACROS_DEFINE_MAJOR,
__SYSMACROS_DECLARE_MINOR, __SYSMACROS_DEFINE_MINOR,
__SYSMACROS_DECLARE_MAKEDEV, __SYSMACROS_DEFINE_MAKEDEV.

In C++11 18.5.12 says "Objects shall not be destroyed as a
result of calling quick_exit." In C11 quick_exit is silent
about thread object destruction. Therefore to make glibc
C++ compliant we do not call any thread local destructors.
A new regression test verifies the fix.
I will note that C++11 18.5.3 makes it clear that C++
defines additional requirements for _Exit() to prevent it
from executing destructors.
Given that the point of _Exit() is to terminate the process
immediately it makes sense the C and C++ should line up
and avoid calling destructors.
No failures. New regtest passes.
When building on i686, x86_64, and arm, and with NDEBUG, or --with-cpu
there are various variables and functions which are unused based on
these settings.
This patch marks all such variables with __attribute__((unused)) to
avoid the compiler warnings when building with the aformentioned
options.

The problem comes from the addition of tests for the finite-math-only
versions of libm functions. Those tests share ulps with the default
function variants. make regen-ulps runs the default tests before the
finite-math-only tests, concatenating the resulting ulps before
feeding them to gen-libm-test.pl to generate a new libm-test-ulps
file. But gen-libm-test.pl always takes the last ulps value given for
any (function, type) pair. So, if the largest ulps for a function
come from non-finite inputs, a from-scratch regeneration loses those
ulps.
This patch fixes gen-libm-test.pl, in the case where there are
multiple ulps values for a (function, type) pair - which can only
happen as part of a regeneration - to take the largest ulps value
rather than the last one.

GCC emits "convert to fixed" instructions for casting floating point
values to integer values. These instructions raise invalid and inexact
exceptions if the floating point value exceeds the integer type ranges.
This patch enables the various FIX_DBL_LONG_CONVERT_OVERFLOW macros in
order to avoid a cast from floating point to integer type and raise the
invalid exception with feraiseexcept.
The ldbl-128 rint/round functions are now using the same logic.

If a platform does not define "long-double-fcts = yes" in its
Makefiles and it does define __NO_LONG_DOUBLE_MATH in its installed
headers, it will currently create exported symbols for __finitel,
__isinfl, and __isnanl that can't be reached from userspace by
correct use of the finite(), isinf(), or isnan() macros in <math.h>.
To avoid this situation, by default for such platforms we now no
longer export these symbols, thus causing appropriate link-time
errors. However, for platforms that previously exported these
symbols, we continue to do so as compat symbols; this is enabled
by adding LDBL_CLASSIFY_COMPAT to math_private.h for the platform.
For tile, remove the now-unnecessary exports of those functions from
libc and libm.
Various math_private.h headers are guarded by "#ifndef
_MATH_PRIVATE_H", but never define the macro. Nothing else defines
the macro either (the generic math_private.h that they include defines
a different macro, _MATH_PRIVATE_H_), so those guards are ineffective.
With the recent inclusion of s_sin.c in s_sincos.c, this breaks the
build for MIPS, since the build of s_sincos.c ends up including
<math_private.h> twice and the MIPS version defines inline functions
such as libc_feholdexcept_mips, without a separate fenv_private.h
header with its own guards such as some architectures have.
This patch fixes all the problem headers to use architecture-specific
guard macro names, and to define those macros in the headers they
guard, just as some architectures already do.
Tested for x86 (testsuite, and that installed shared libraries are
unchanged by the patch), and for mips64 (that it fixes the build).

GCC 4.7 added support for ARM TLS descriptors. The binutils support
is present in binutils 2.22. Thus, this patch removes the associated

Similar to the recent fix for MIPS, ARM is also missing correct

The logic in setjmp/__longjmp incorrectly uses "PIC" to figure out
whether the code is going into a shared library when it should be
using "SHARED". If you build glibc with a gcc version that has PIE
enabled by default, then the code will try to use symbols that are
only in the shared library.

Concluding the fixes for C90 libm functions calling C99 fe* functions,
this patch fixes the case of feupdateenv by making it a weak alias for
__feupdateenv and making the affected code call __feupdateenv.
Tested for x86_64 (testsuite, and that installed stripped shared
libraries are unchanged by the patch). Also tested for ARM
(soft-float) that the math.h linknamespace tests now pass.

Some C90 libm functions call fegetenv via libc_feholdsetround*
functions in math_private.h. This patch makes them call __fegetenv
instead, making fegetenv into a weak alias for __fegetenv as needed.

this set of namespace issues covered by bug 17748 is fully fixed and
those linknamespace tests start passing).

Various C90 and UNIX98 libm functions call feraiseexcept, which is not
in those standards. This causes linknamespace test failures - except
on x86 / x86_64, where feraiseexcept is inline (for the relevant
constant arguments) in bits/fenv.h.
This patch fixes this by making those functions call __feraiseexcept
instead. All changes are applied to all architectures rather than
considering the possibility that some might not be needed in some
cases (e.g. x86) as it seems most maintainable to keep architectures
consistent.
Where __feraiseexcept does not exist, it is added, with feraiseexcept
made a weak alias; where it is a strong alias, it is made weak.
libm_hidden_def / libm_hidden_proto are used with __feraiseexcept
(this might in some cases improve code generation for existing calls
to __feraiseexcept in some code on some architectures). Where there
are dummy feraiseexcept macros (on architectures without
floating-point exceptions support, to avoid compile errors from
references to undefined FE_* macros), corresponding dummy
__feraiseexcept macros are added. And on x86, to ensure
__feraiseexcept calls still get inlined, the inline function in
bits/fenv.h is refactored so that most of it can be reused in an
inline __feraiseexcept in a separate include/bits/fenv.h.
Calls are changed in C90/UNIX98 functions, but generally not in
functions missing from those standards. They are also changed in
libc_fe* functions (on the basis that those might be used in any libm
function), and in feupdateenv (on the same basis - may be used, via
default libc_*, in any libm function - of course feupdateenv will need
changing to __feupdateenv in a subsequent patch to make that fully
namespace-clean).
No __feraiseexcept is added corresponding to the feraiseexcept in
powerpc bits/fenvinline.h, because that macro definition is
conditional on !defined __NO_MATH_INLINES, and glibc libm is built
with -D__NO_MATH_INLINES, so changing internal calls to use
__feraiseexcept should make no difference.
Tested for x86_64 (testsuite; the only change in disassembly of
installed shared libraries is a slight code reordering in clog10, of
no apparent significance). Also tested for MIPS, where (in the
configuration tested) it eliminates math.h linknamespace failures for
n32 and n64 (some for o32 remain because of other issues).

GCC marked OABI obsolete in 4.7 and dropped it in 4.8. So the number
of people this is catching is shrinking every day. At this point,
it's not terribly useful, so just drop it.
This sets __HAVE_64B_ATOMICS if provided. It also sets
USE_ATOMIC_COMPILER_BUILTINS to true if the existing atomic ops use the
__atomic* builtins (aarch64, mips partially) or if this has been
tested (x86_64); otherwise, this is set to false so that C11 atomics will
be based on the existing atomic operations.
This patch removes conditionals in ARM code on __GNUC_PREREQ(4,4),
which were already obsolete even before the move from 4.4 to 4.6 as
minimum GCC version for building glibc.
Tested for ARM that installed shared libraries are unchanged by this
patch.

Continuing the removal of the obsolete INTDEF / INTUSE mechanism, this
patch eliminates its use for _dl_init. Since _dl_init was already
declared with hidden visibility, creating a second hidden alias for it
was completely pointless, so this patch replaces all uses of
_dl_init_internal with plain _dl_init instead of using hidden_proto /
hidden_def (which are only needed when you want a hidden alias for a
non-hidden symbol; it's quite possible there are cases where they are
used but don't need to be because the symbol in question is not part
of the public ABI and is only used within a single library, so using
attributes_hidden instead would suffice).
Tested for x86_64 that installed stripped shared libraries are
unchanged by the patch.

This is a change to the dynamic linker to add prelinker support for the
R_ARM_TLS_DESC relocation. Two cases can be considered here, the usual
one where lazy binding is in use and the less frequent one, where
immediate binding is requested via the use of the DF_BIND_NOW dynamic
flag (e.g. by using the GNU linker's "-z now" option).
This change only handles the first case. In this scenario the prelinker
does what the dynamic linker would do, that is it preinitialises
R_ARM_TLS_DESC relocations with a pointer to the lazy specialization as
provided with the DT_TLSDESC_PLT dynamic tag. A conflict is
additionally created and in the conflict resolution path the dynamic
linker complements the work by initialising the object's pointer as
indicated by the DT_TLSDESC_GOT dynamic tag to the linker's internal
lazy specialization worker function and also providing the associated
link map in the second entry of the GOT. This step is required, because
if prelinking is successful at the run time, then the dynamic linker's
elf_machine_runtime_setup() function isn't called that would normally do
so.
The second case remains unresolved, because support for that scenario
has not been implemented in the prelinker. In this case the lazy
specialization is unavailable and the DT_TLSDESC_PLT dynamic tag is not
present.
The prelinker could assume the common case of static specialization and
resolve the relocation, but that would require the exposure of dynamic
linker's specialization worker function. Furthermore the dynamic linker
would have to handle the relocation in the conflict resolution path and
see if the dynamic specialization should be used instead. This however
would require access to data structures currently not made available to
the conflict resolution path and therefore a redesign of this part of
the dynamic linker.
Alternatively the prelinker could defer all processing to the dynamic
linker's conflict resolution path, but that would require similar access
to the said data structures.
Therefore the prelinker issues an error instead and the dynamic linker
has assertions to check that DT_TLSDESC_PLT and DT_TLSDESC_GOT are in
use in its conflict resolution path.
This change resolves all TLS failures in the prelinker testsuite, as
noted in the bug report, as well as the small test case provided there.
Unfortunately we don't seem to have any hooks to factor in the prelinker
(if present on a system) to testing, so at this time this fix has to
rely on using the prelinker test suite and enabling TLS descriptors
there for coverage.

Various architectures have files such as sysdeps/<arch>/shlib-versions
whose contents are in fact entirely Linux-specific, relating only to
the symbol / shared library versions for the port to Linux on that
architecture, when any future port to a different OS on that
architecture would use the symbol version of the glibc release it goes
in, as standard for new ports.
This patch moves such files under sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/, merging in
the contents of sysdeps/<arch>/nptl/shlib-versions in the process.
The only bits not moved are those relating to libgcc_s versions, which
don't appear OS-specific in the same way that glibc's symbol versions
so. It deliberately does not change the regular expressions given for
matching configurations in each file; some match only Linux although
not Linux-specific, or match other OSes although Linux-specific. It
is with a view to at least the following further cleanups:
* Move architecture-specific content from the toplevel shlib-versions
and nptl/shlib-versions into sysdeps shlib-versions files, so
eliminating another difference between ex-ports and non-ex-ports
architectures.
* Likewise, for OS-specific content in shlib-versions files.
* At that point, the first field in shlib-versions files (the regular
expression matching a configuration triplet) should be redundant, so
eliminate that field and leave shlib-versions selection working
purely on a sysdeps basis (with limited use of %ifdef in
shlib-versions files when needed) rather than having its own
separate mechanism to select what configuration information is
relevant.
* Move the build of gnu/lib-names.h to a similar mechanism to that
used for gnu/stubs.h (each library build installing a version of the
header specifically for that build), so we can eliminate the
duplication of soname information in the makefiles and get it purely
from shlib-versions files again.
There may be other cleanups possible as well (in particular, I'm not
sure that all cases where the same "Earliest symbol set" information
is repeated for many different libraries actually should need to
repeat it rather than specifying it just once for DEFAULT for the
given configuration, and separately specifying any non-default choices
of soname).
Tested x86_64 that the installed shared libraries are unchanged by
this patch.

This patch removes the configure test for working -z relro.
The use of -z relro in Makeconfig became unconditional with
commit 2e6ab1df44c412bb9d30b26a4d8a679150a7e375
Author: Ulrich Drepper <drepper@redhat.com>
Date: Sat Oct 28 06:44:04 2006 +0000
Remove conditional code which now is unnecessary.
(commit reference from git://repo.or.cz/glibc/history), so since then
the configure test has not controlled anything about how glibc is
built - simply about whether configure succeeds and allows a build to
be attempted. The test for whether the option did something useful
(as opposed to whether it exists - which we can certainly just assume
by now) was originally added in
<https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-hacker/2004-09/msg00069.html> to
disable the option in a case when it did nothing useful on ia64 (as a
result of something deliberate in the linker on ia64). Since 2006
that disabling has been of no effect, and given that the current test
does not set libc_relro_required for ia64, it does nothing whatever
useful for the original motivating case. Also at around the same time
in 2006 the test was made to give an error for missing or broken -z
relro support on various architectures.
So effectively all the test does now is verify that, on certain
architectures, the linker has not been changed deliberately to make
the option ineffective. I see no apparent reason why such a change
should be expected, or why the build should be stopped if it were to
be made (any more than we disallow build on ia64); I think we can
trust binutils patch review to point out the consequences of any
change to COMMONPAGESIZE setting. The only thing that might now make
sense would be disabling the -z relro use on an architecture-specific
basis if there were an architecture-specific reason to consider that
to make sense; it would be for the ia64 maintainer to decide if that
makes sense for ia64 at present, but I think that could be done
through sysdeps Makefiles - no special configure tests needed.
Tested for x86_64 that this patch makes no change to the installed
shared libraries.
Together with
<https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2014-06/msg00788.html> (pending
review) this substantially eliminates architecture-specific cases from
architecture-independent configure.ac files. There remains an i386
case in sysdeps/mach/hurd/configure.ac that should properly move to
the i386 subdirectory. (There are also OS-specific cases outside
OS-specific directories; in principle I think should should also
move.)

This patch removes configure tests for assembler CFI support (and
thereby eliminates an architecture-specific case in the main
configure.ac), instead assuming that support is present
unconditionally.
The main test was added in 2003 around the time CFI support was added
to the assembler. cfi_personality and cfi_lsda support were added to
the assembler in 2006. cfi_sections support was added in 2009, a few
weeks before binutils 2.20 was released; it's in 2.20, the minimum
supported version, so even that configure test is obsolete.

This fixes the calculation of R_ARM_TLS_DESC relocations for lazy global
symbol references, i.e. created with `-z lazy' in effect with the static
linker, where immediate resolution is requested with LD_BIND_NOW.
This patch relies on the C version of the rwlocks posted earlier.
With C rwlocks it is very straight forward to do adaptive elision
using TSX. It is based on the infrastructure added earlier
for mutexes, but uses its own elision macros. The macros
are fairly general purpose and could be used for other
elision purposes too.
This version is much cleaner than the earlier assembler based
version, and in particular implements adaptation which makes
it safer.
I changed the behavior slightly to not require any changes
in the test suite and fully conform to all expected
behaviors (generally at the cost of not eliding in
various situations). In particular this means the timedlock
variants are not elided. Nested trylock aborts.
The current code for handling concurrent resolution says that the
ABI for _dl_tlsdesc_resolve_hold is the same as that of
_dl_tlsdesc_lazy_resolver. However _dl_tlsdesc_resolve_hold is
called from the trampoline directly rather than the lazy resolver
stub so, for example, r2 has not been pushed so does not needed
to be restored.
This fixes an intermittent failure in nptl/tst-tls3 when building
glibc for arm-linux-gnueabihf with -mtls-dialect=gnu2.

Commit 7d92b78723 [Fix ARM NAN fraction
bits.] removed all the bits set from NANFRAC macros and, when propagated
to libgcc, regressed gcc.dg/torture/builtin-math-7.c on soft-fp arm-eabi
targets, currently ARMv6-M (`-march=armv6-m -mthumb') only. This is
because when used to construct a NaN in the semi-raw mode, they now
build an infinity instead. Consequently operations such as (Inf - Inf)
now produce Inf rather than NaN. The change worked for the original
test case, posted with PR libgcc/60166, because division is made in the
canonical mode, where the quiet bit is set separately, from the fp
class.
This change brings the quiet bit back to these macros, making semi-raw
mode calculations produce the expected results again.
This patch cleans up some symbol versioning code in the ARM port that
exists only as relics of the old-ABI port, which was removed some time
ago.
The minimum symbol version in the ARM port is GLIBC_2.4 (the version
where the EABI port was introduced). Thus, any SHLIB_COMPAT
conditionals where the later version is 2.4 or later are obsolete and
can be removed. In addition, there is no need to set symbol versions
before 2.4 explicitly if the symbols would have a version of 2.4 by
default anyway. This includes most of the entries in
sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/arm/Versions: those for GLIBC_2.0 are for
libgcc unwind functions that aren't actually in ARM EABI glibc at all,
while those for GLIBC_2.2 and GLIBC_2.3.3 are for functions which for
the old-ABI port may have had versions different from the
architecture-independent default, but where for EABI the default
suffices (both the default and the version in that file map to 2.4, so
the entries in that file do nothing). The GLIBC_2.1 entries are
needed (architecture-specific functions), but it seems less confusing
for those to say GLIBC_2.4, as the actual version those symbols in
fact have.
Various cases in the <fenv.h> functions where a function is defined as
__fe* with an fe* versioned alias are cleaned up just to define fe*
directly, as done e.g. on AArch64. If in future we actually need an
__fe* name for use from C90 functions in libm as discussed recently,
of course we can add one on all architectures and make the fe* name
into a weak alias for that particular function, but for now the __fe*
names aren't needed.
In the case of posix_fadvise64, the __posix_fadvise64_l64 name and
posix_fadvise64 alias are kept as __posix_fadvise64_l64 is used in
posix_fadvise. (For that to be a namespace-clean use, posix_fadvise64
needs to be a *weak* alias not a strong one as at present, but that's
an independent preexisting bug.)
(There remain references to GLIBC_2_2 in
sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/arm/{msgctl.c,semctl.c,shmctl.c}. As those
files are used by alpha which has a genuine 2.2 version for those
functions, I think those references need to stay as-is.)
Tested that the disassembly of installed shared libraries is unchanged
by this patch (though function names shown in disassembly change to no
longer have @@GLIBC_2.4, now those functions get versioned only by the
version map and not redundantly at assembler time) and that the ABI
tests pass.

This patch fixes what I believe to be a bug in the handling of
R_ARM_IRELATIVE RELA relocations. At present, these are handled the
same as REL relocations: i.e. the addend is loaded from the relocation
address. Most of the time this isn't a problem because RELA relocations
aren't used on ARM (GNU/Linux at least) anyway, but it causes problems
with prelink, which uses RELA on all targets for its conflict table.
(Support for ifunc prelinking requires a prelink patch, not yet posted.)
Anyway, this patch works, though I'm not 100% sure if it is correct: I
notice that this code path received attention last year:
https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-ports/2013-07/msg00000.html

* sysdeps/arm/dl-machine.h (elf_machine_rela): Fix R_ARM_IRELATIVE
handling.
As recently discussed
<https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2014-02/msg00670.html>, it
doesn't seem particularly useful for libm-test-ulps files to contain
huge amounts of data on ulps for individual tests; just the global
maximum observed ulps for each function, together with the
verification of exceptions, errno and special results such as
infinities and NaNs for each test, suffices to verify that a
function's behavior on the given test inputs is within the expected
accuracy. Removing this data reduces source tree churn caused by
updates to these files when libm tests are added, and reduces the
frequency with which testsuite additions actually need libm-test-ulps
changes at all.
Accordingly, this patch removes that data, so that individual tests
get checked against the global bounds for the given function and only
generate an error if those are exceeded. Tested x86_64 (including
verifying that if an ulps value is artificially reduced, the tests do
indeed fail as they should and "make regen-ulps" generates the
expected changes).
