The DSL would not previously function within the compiler, because it
expected to be in charge of everything itself. The compiler and DSL also
disagreed about how to handle some things, such as the DSL not
respecting the compiler's override flags.
This CL moves responsibility for much of the setup process into
DSL::Start(), which the compiler now invokes. DSL::Start() now also
takes a ProgramSettings instead of DSL-specific flags, and the
externalFunctions vector has been moved into ProgramSettings.

This is a reland of 0a0f4f5c35
This change makes SkCanvas::quickReject always reject empty draw bounds,
whereas previously scale+translate CTMs allowed bounds with w or h == 0
but otherwise contained in the clip to be drawn. This uncovered some
bugs in Skia where bounds shouldn't be empty, and in Flutter where
bounds were legit empty but not expected by the test.
No code changes needed. The issues that required its revert have been
fixed with:
1. https://github.com/flutter/engine/pull/26053 so that platforms that
use an empty typeface, leading to empty draws are just skipped.
2. https://skia-review.googlesource.com/c/skia/+/406140 so that path
effects update bounds so that Android's 1D dash path effect applied to
a horizontal line is properly not rejected.
Based on the period of time where the original CL was landed, some perf
data was collected.
- There were no significant changes in most SKPs or SVGs, except for a
Flutter page flip skp, which saw a 10% net improvement (perhaps the
flip is drawn with perspective?)
- A 10-20% regression in the motionmark paths skp, but dominated by the MSVC
compiler, so I'm not too concerned about that.
- Perspective microbenchmarks for drawing rectangles are 1.5-2x faster.
- quickReject microbenchmarks are about 2x slower.
The last two microbenchmark results aren't surprising since perspective
was the largest improvement in perf for SkM44::MapRect vs.
SkMatrix::mapRect, and the scale+translate specializations in Skmatrix
were maybe 50% faster than SkM44's. That would account for some of the
slow downs, and the rest could be explained by moving away from the
SIMD rect intersection and nan test.
Since these microreductions don't seem to bleed into more complex
benchmarks, I'm inclined to keep the code simple and not bring back the
custom intrinsics.

SkSpan is a convenient type to use on API boundaries - callers can have
their collection in a stack-allocated array, or any contiguous container
(std::vector, etc). Those will all implicitly convert to SkSpan, making
call-sites easy to read/write.
Before making it part of Skia's public API, this CL removes parts of the
API that aren't present in std::span -- when Skia moves to C++20, this
should allow us to use std::span instead, and remove SkSpan entirely.
The most disruptive change is the removal of `int count()`. That's
replaced by a new free function `SkCount` that works on any container,
and incorporates the overflow check from SkTo<int>.

Chromium has been updated to use makeAnalysisCanvas directly and there are
no more references to SkTextBlobDiffCanvas as a type in its code base.
Since the GlyphTrackingDevice extends SkNoPixelsDevice, any SkCanvas that
uses it is effectively a "no-draw" canvas. However, by returning a base
SkCanvas the text tracking now automatically happens in the context of
the base's AutoLayerForImageFilter handling it applies on every draw. This
means that drawing a text blob with an image filter that modifies the
transform state will now be analyzed in that context automatically
(simplifying code in chrome after this lands).
Another behavioral change is that all non-text draws will still go through
the base SkCanvas' virtuals and invoke the device function. Since it's an
SkNoPixelsDevice, it'll still be a no-op, it just happens a little later.
This won't really impact performance because oop-r already inspects their
operations and only plays back text and transform related ones to the
analysis canvas, so we shouldn't really see non-text draws being invoked
anyways.

The SkM44::RectToRect function matches the semantics of
SkMatrix::RectToRect(kFill_ScaleToFit). No other ScaleToFit variants are
ported over to SkM44.
skottie uses some instances of kCenter_ScaleToFit so that functionality
may need to be added in the future (in SkM44 or in skottie). There are
no current usages of the kStart and kEnd_ScaleToFit semantics.
The SkM44::mapRect() function is implemented to correspond to the
SkMatrix::mapRect() that returns the mapped rect (instead of modifying a
pointer) and always has ApplyPerspectiveClip::kYes. This was chosen to
keep its behavior simple and because perspective clipping is almost
always the right thing to do. In the new implementation there is no
longer a performance cliff to worry about (see below). For the timebeing
mapRect is hidden behind SkMatrixPriv::MapRect().
Performance:
I added benchmarks for mapRect() on SkM44 and SkMatrix that use the same
matrices to get a fair comparison on their different specializations.
SkMatrix has a very efficient mapRect when it's scale+translate or
simpler, then another impl. for affine matrices, and then falls back to
SkPath clipping when there's perspective. On the other hand, SkM44 only
has 2 modes: affine and perspective.
On my desktop, with a Ryzen 9 3900X, here are the times for 100,000 calls
to mapRect for different types of matrices:
SkMatrix SkM44
scale+translate 0.35 ms 0.42 ms
rotate 1.70 ms 0.42 ms
perspective 63.90 ms 0.66 ms
clipped-perspective 138.0 ms 0.96 ms
To summarize, the SkM44::mapRect is almost as fast as the s+t specialization
in SkMatrix, but for all non-perspective matrices. For perspective matrices
it's only 2x slower than that specialization when no vertices are clipped,
and still almost 2x faster than the affine specialization when vertices are
clipped (and 100x faster than falling back to SkPath).
Given that, there's the open question of whether or not keeping an affine
specialization is worth it for SkM44's code size.

This does a few things, because they're all intertwined:
1) SkRuntimeEffect's API now includes details about children (which Skia
stage was declared, not just the name). The factories verify that the
declared types in the SkSL match up with the C++ types being passed.
Today, we still only support adding children of the same type, so the
checks are simple. Once we allow mixing types, we'll be testing the
declared type against the actual C++ type supplied for each slot.
2) Adds sample variants that supply the input color to the child. This
is now the only way to invoke a colorFilter child. Internally, we
support passing a color when invoking a child shader, but I'm not
exposing that. It's not clearly part of the semantics of the Skia
pipeline, and is almost never useful. It also exposes users to
several inconsistencies (skbug.com/11942).
3) Because of #2, it's possible that we can't compute a reusable program
to filter individual colors. In that case, we don't set the constant
output for constant input optimization, and filterColor4f falls back
to the slower base-class implementation.

This CL adds a RuntimeEffect option flag which skips over the various
`strictES2Mode` checks sprinkled throughout IR generation.
Runtime Effects still won't allow a lot of ES3 things (the Pipeline
stage will reject unsupported statement types, SkVM doesn't support most
non-ES2 constructs, etc). However, this change will give us the ability
to test many more features involving arrays and structs that previously
were off-limits due to ES2 restrictions, and will shore up some
legitimate gaps in our testing. This is a useful starting point to allow
for improved test coverage.

To do this, we create a plain empty Var, then swap it with the actual

These enforce stricter rules about the signature of main, and each one
uses a separate pre-include module. That prevents color filters from
being able to reference sk_FragCoord (or coords passed to main) at all.
It also limits the versions of sample() that are exposed.
In the new world, an effect created for a specific stage of the Skia
pipeline can only be used to create instances of that stage (SkShader or
SkColorFilter). For now, SkRuntimeEffect::Make uses kRuntimeEffect,
which continues to be more lenient and allow creation of either shaders
or color filters from a single effect. After we migrate all clients, we
can deprecate and then delete that mode.

DSLVar is normally implicitly converted to DSLExpression wherever it is
used, but the naively template-ized nature of DSLFunction::operator()
meant that it was accepting DSLVar parameters directly. Since DSLVar is
non-copyable, this meant DSLVar couldn't be passed directly to a DSL
function.

std::result_of is deprecated and removed in C++20, std::invoke_result is
in C++17 the library so not ready yet.
In the case of SkMakeArray there is no need for the full power of
std::invoke_result as SFINAE is not needed, nor is calling a method
supported. As a result a simple decltype is sufficient.

Reason for revert: Fixed variable type for chrome & flutter
Basically, you can't use objc_externally_retained with `auto` type
variables because the compiler isn't smart enough to deduce the type
before checking that it's compatible with the attribute.

Prior to this change, we were creating the SkSL variable and declaration
immediately on DSLVar creation. This causes problems with function
parameters, which are sometimes supposed to be tagged
SK_MAIN_COORDS_BUILTIN. If we have already created the variable and
inserted it into the symbol table, then by the time we determine the
variable is supposed to be SK_MAIN_COORDS_BUILTIN, it is too late to
modify the (now-const) variable.
We are not yet doing this tagging, but refactoring the creation in this
fashion paves the way to making it possible.

Also adds some SK_API tags to the SkV[2,3,4] structs. Also fixes
linkage issues around Sk3Perspective/LookAt by moving them into the
exported SkM44 (if we don't like them as SkM44 factories, will just need
to add SK_API tags to old Sk3Perspective/Lookat directly).

GetFontCachePointSizeLimit are internal. In effect, the mutex

Expose text and cluster information in SkTextBlob::Iter when
SK_UNTIL_CRBUG_1187654_IS_FIXED is defined. The names are postfixed
with _forTest to indicate that these values are only being exposed for
testing purposes. This will allow blink tests to better verify the
output SkTextBlobs from the ShapeResultBloberizer. The long term goal
is to only store these results when necessary in a blink side type.

The non-virtual filterColor4f handles premul and unpremul at the API
boundary. onFilterColor4f always works on premul colors.
To get the performance benefits, all color filters in a chain need
to override the virtual. For now, WorkingFormatColorFilter is the
other target, as builtin filters that use runtime effects are always
wrapped with that.
Net effect on matrix_filterColor4f timing:

Today we cache the imageshader that is used to rendering. However, the
key for that cache is the pictureshader's ID itself... which means if
we have several, all using the same picture (but maybe diff tiling) we
would create dup cache entries.
Idea:
1. only cache the image (rastered picture), not an imageShader
2. key the cache on the picture's ID, not the shader's
Several implications of this:
1. Should get more cache reuse, since we don't care about the
shader's ID (which is just wrapping a picture+tiling, etc.)
2. We also eliminate the indirection of creating a PictureImage. Instead
we're creating real (pixel) images, and caching those. This removes one
extra layer of "cache".
Idea: when we cache something for pict

GrThreadSafePipelineBuilder is the generic, base object the
GrContextThreadSafeProxy will hold. Each backend will create a
backend-specific version that is shared between the direct context
and the (possibly many) utility contexts.
Right now GrThreadSafePipelineBuilder just holds the pipeline
creation stats. Relatedly only GrGLGpu::ProgramCache and
GrVkResourceProvider::PipelineStateCache currently derive from
the new class (since they are the only backends that generate
pipeline stats).

This approach lets us write color filters that want to work in
particular color spaces and alpha formats and adapt them to our normal
pipeline. It should work with pre-canned and runtime effects, and we
can do the same sort of thing for shaders too.
Some features are designed for using this with the high-contrast filter:
- ability to change working tf and gamut separately: as written the
HC effect only wants to work in linear space without changing
gamut, which is I bet will be a common desired mode. But other
effects may want to fully change the working color space, e.g. to
sRGB or XYZ.
- adapting the alpha type to unpremul is mostly a flourish: you could
do it yourself in sksl, but we might as well do it if doing other
transforms anyway (it's cheaper this way than doing it yourself),
and this may make it easier to adapt non-runtime effects.
(I bet most color filters actually want to be unpremul.)
I briefly also included a knob to control how this effect treats a
nullptr dst color space, but I've come back around to that not being a
parameter. I think this is a situation where we know best.
New GM to demo.

This is now structured like the VM generator: Just a function that does
the conversion. Moved all relevant types and constants out of the
compiler, too. The key thing is that we don't need/want an error
handler, because it's too late to fail. We *must* catch all errors
during IR generation.
This is also another step along the path of directly emitting to the
fragment shader builder, rather than generating strings with
placeholders.

This allows us to control the inline threshold of runtime effects in a
thread-safe way.
The new Make API now returns a struct, for readability; the old Make API
continues to return a tuple.
The old Make function is deprecated and subject to removal. You can
migrate to the new API by passing a default-constructed Options struct.
In this case there will be no difference in behavior.

Moves the (SkRect + flags) struct into SkImageFilter_Base with protected
access only. Base constructor and all src/effects/imagefilters Make
functions now take a "const SkRect*" instead. CropRect is still what's
stored and used by filter implementations during filterImage(), but it's
no longer publicly available.
The SkImageFilters factory implementations now can go straight to the
Make functions in src/effects/imagefilters instead of wrapping its
"const SkRect*" in an SkImageFilter::CropRect.

a way for the GrDirectContext to tell the GrGpu to finish all outstanding

This was originally added so that some clients (BitmapFactory,
BitmapRegionDecoder) could ignore exif for backwards compatibility, and
others (ImageDecoder) could respect it.
With the addition of NDK APIs for decoding all frames of an animated
image, hwui/ImageDecoder will handle compositing frames, including
handling the orientation, so it may as well always handle it.
This removes tests for SkAndroidCodec that are no longer applicable.
Android already has tests for most of them.
AndroidCodec_sampledOrientation is recreated in

Add a flag that can remove the older virtuals, once each client has
stopped overriding them. In that situation, the older public methods
will simplify extract the sampling from the paint, and call the new

Change SkTypeface::onCreateScalerContext to return std::unique_ptr
instead of a bare pointer. The public SkTypeface::createScalerContext
implementation already returns std::unique_ptr, so this is an internal
change only.
Move SkTypeface::createScalerContext implementation from
SkScalerContext.cpp to SkTypeface.cpp for consistency.
Also change the return type of SkScalerContext::MakeEmptyContext to
std::unique_ptr and rename to SkScalerContext::MakeEmpty.

No known clients (CanvasKit, Android) want to ignore the exif
orientation in an animation.
A follow-on CL will deprecate SkAndroidCodec::ExifOrientation, leaving
it up to the client (e.g. SkAnimatedImage, hwui/ImageDecoder) to
handle the orientation. Add SkEncodedOriginSwapsWidthHeight to assist
clients to do so.
Update stoplight_animated_image GM. It previously showed using
SkAnimatedImage without respecting the orientation, which is no longer
supported. The new version replaces the left half of the image with the
right.
Remove assert that is no longer true. Originally, an SkAnimatedImage was
"simple" if it did not have a crop or postProcessor. This is no longer
true if has an exif orientation. Add a test that calls the simple
constructor and verifies it does not crash.

Still TODO:
- Function calls. Can do these by inlining everything (recursively).
- Additional flow control: ES2 for loops can be supported (via
unrolling), and switch() can be implemented. (Was never done in
ByteCode).
- Uniforms and params have been set up to work very generically (caller
just supplies IDs, the generator collates everything into a master
working list). Builtins should work the same way (caller supplies a
map of builtin ID -> skvm::Val[]?), so that we don't need a special
case for device coord.
- Figure out integer type policy. Today, it's a mix of only supporting
signed integers, and just treating all integers as signed, even if
they're not.
- Now that defining intrinsics is *much* simpler, stop defining so many
of them in sksl_public.sksl, and just implement them here.

The GLSL backdoor for tessellation shaders is only experimental at
this point. In order to enable the tessellation path renderer, we need
to turn off HW tessellation and let it use the indirect draw modes.

This definitely simplifies the drawing code, but always copies the input
SkPaint so that it can be modified if necessary. If we get perf hits, we
can just revert this. We could keep it using a copy-on-write, but with
this change, I believe we've removed the majority of instances of
SkCopyOnWrite<SkPaint> inside SkCanvas. There's just one LatticePaint
struct that's overly complex for what it does that I can clean up next.
A middle ground would be to keep the copy-on-write behavior, but drop
the branch on image-filter. Given the lack of perf needle movement on
some of the other simplifications that avoided technically unnecessary
paint copies, I doubt it's worth the complexity.
As part of this change, since the draw calls no longer branch based on
the presence of an image filter, the AutoLayerForImageFilter takes over
calling predrawNotify() in its various forms. We don't have to follow
through with that, if we'd rather have the notification be called out
explicitly within the draw call itself. I've found it easy to forget to
call predrawNotify(), or keep it in the right place while updating draws
so I may be biased.

SkDrawIter goes away, as well as the DRAW_BEGIN, DRAW_END, and
FOR_EACH_TOP_DEVICE macros. A new macro TOP_DEVICE is added that
simplifies checking for a null device (which is currently only possible
if SkCanvas::init() was called with null). The intent is that this will
be replaced with just "this->getTopDevice()->" in the future.
The rest of the auto-layer magic that happened in DRAW_BEGIN is now
explicitly written out in the draw functions. Additionally, it has
been updated to check for an image filter. When there's no image
filter, it completely bypasses the construction of the AutoLayer object.
This extra check maybe isn't worth the code complexity, but some draw
methods had previously followed this pattern, so presumably stack
allocating the AutoLayer had some overhead in tight draw loops.

This pares back SkDrawIter (will go further in follow-up CL) to take
advantage of no more unclipped layers. The canvas no longer needs to
maintain its own inline DeviceCM, but MCRec can point to a hidden
Layer struct. The first MCRec doesn't have a Layer (since there's
nothing to restore to), but gets its device from the explicitly
represented base device of the SkCanvas.

Add more fields to SkCodec::FrameInfo, which describes the properties of
an individual frame in an animated image. This allows a client that
wishes to seek to determine frame dependencies so that they can decode
an arbitrary frame, which in turn will allow SkCodec to remove
SkCodec::FrameInfo::fRequiredFrame. Currently, SkCodec seeks through the
stream to determine frame dependencies, but this is unnecessary work
(and storage) for a client that does not want to seek.
These fields also support the proposed APIs in go/animated-ndk.
Move SkCodecAnimation::Blend from SkCodecAnimationPriv (and delete that
file) into SkCodecAnimation.h. Rename its values to be more clear.
Merge common code for populating SkCodec::FrameInfo.
Add a test for a GIF with offsets outside the range of the image. Note
that libwebp rejects such an image.
Update libgifcodec.
